[attr="class","xenica"]Backup Bayou was an area that Xenica had only recently discovered, but it has easily become her favorite place in the Digital World. It was a lush swamp, filled with plant and insect life. Trees and water were all this place had to offer, no civilization to be found. The teenager sat by the river, casting out a handmade fishing line into the murky waters. It was a shame most of the fish here just turned into data when they expired, so this exercise was mostly just to relax her mind and calm her body. Her previous adventure was a little much...and she just needed to kick back before going on to other things. So she isolated herself in the bayou, turning off her phone and hoping nobody would bother her. It was around sunset, the red light from the sky nearly matching the girl's tired crimson eyes. Something tugged on her fishing rod, causing the teenager to tense up and attempt to pull it in. Her line went wild, whatever was on the other end of it was sure putting up a fight. She pulled harder, taking off her jacket to improve her focus. After another couple seconds of struggle, she reeled in a karp-sized Swimmon. The fish looked at her in anger, flopping around and gasping for air. In that moment, she was in control of its fate. It lived or died due to her decision. It was certainly a feeling of power over another creature. Xenica sat back down, throwing the Digimon back into the water, deciding that today, it would live. Katsura was wandering through the forest again, in her arms she was carrying Nyao the blackgatomon. After everything that has happened to her recently, Katsura has had enough of just being limited to the forest. Clearly there were other parts of the digital world and if not even the forest or the dark area was safe what was the point of restricting yourself? And so despite her digimon partner's protest she had consistently walked south determined to find somewhere she hadn't been before. As for now her journey has come to an abrupt end due to the appearance of a river blocking her way. As she stepped out of a clearing into the nearby swamp not noticing the teenage girl fishing right next to her the petite girl stopped all of sudden.
"Huh... There's a river there." Katsura announced.
"Yes, I can see that. Can we turn back now?" Nyao responded to which the girl stubbornly shock her head.
"No, I need to see the rest of the digital world." "But why? The forest is safe." "I don't know, I just do. I need some fresh air." If Xenica was to turn her head she would find a long haired school girl almost 5 feet tall clinging to her blackgatomon and wearing the crest of loyalty around her neck.
AN: This picture is canon despite Katsura no longer wearing her bow.

”...don’t understand why we have to book it away from the forest,” the voice was male and deep enough to indicate it was someone inching into adulthood and away from adolescence. The language was japanese, fluent and native. And it was accompanied by rustling, minor cursing, and a few slapping sounds, the stark noises preceding the band of would-be heroes long before they came into sight. ”Especially if that’s where the Trailmon drops us off. We’ll have to pass through there every time we shift worlds, guys.”
The first visual notice of their presence were rustling cat-tail grasses, swaying side to side as a grey-blue insect digimon pushed its way forward, talking as it led the way. ”Because, I told you, Haru and I know...knew...were acquainted with some very shady digimon who worked in that sector. It’s where our hive used to be. We don’t know if they are still in business, but they wouldn’t take kindly to us if they found us a-” the digimon paused mid-sentence, seeing the gathering of digimon and humans at the watering hole. The KoKabuterimon didn’t even slap at the mosquito and that landed on his forehead. His abrupt stop, however, meant that soon enough a tall, thin teenager pushed through behind him, shoving the digimon forward ungraciously.
Keiji looked like taffy pulled upwards too far. He was long and thin, with wide shoulders and messy black hair. He had a backpack on, through which was slung a skateboard, and his bare arms were already full of mosquito bites. ”Yea okay, but why pick the swamp?” Slap! ”We could’ve gone to that beach place, or the metal place. Anywhere but-” Keiji paused at the same moment, deer in the headlights staring at the strange scene they’d stumbled upon, only he had the presence of mind to actually speak, “-here. Hi there. Unusual place to gather, ain’t it?”
Finally, at the tail end of the trio, a bright red Tentomon head poked through the brush, just to get a peek at what was going on. That digimon stayed quiet, just watching to see what would happen next. [Just FYI, you'll need to tag "Kouta2" if you actually want my attention. "Kouta" is my other account that I never use.]

[attr="class","xenica"]Another one! Wow, the river was simply brimming with life this day. As the dark-haired teenager went to pull in her next big catch, she suddenly felt her line go under, then around, finally going limp. Something had scared off the aquatic creature, much to Xenica's annoyance. Her crimson eyes peered over to see what caused this disturbance - finding a girl about an inch shorter than she was, with the same colored eyes and hair, clutching a black cat. This stranger paid absolutely no mind to the environment she was disrupting, her distance eyes completely adrift in their own world. She seemed concerned with getting out of this area, and pointed out the obvious of there being a river blocking her way. After hearing their conversation, Xenica decided to speak up with mild irritation. " So you wanna leave this area? Good idea! Get lost!" Her voice was course for a girl, and she had a distinctive Japanese accent often shared among delinquents and gang members. She was really not interesting in spending any time with random strangers right now - she came here to escape from all of that kind of stuff. Unfortunately, her solitude was just further stepped upon when another Tamer entered the scene, this one male and much taller, having with him a pair of beetles. This one acquired that it was an unusual place to gather, likely unaware of what she had just said to the other girl. " Unusual? Yeah, not exactly the place to hold a family cookout. But I ain't here to do that." It appeared that Katsura's presence had caused a minor gathering, at the expense of the fish in the river Xenica was trying to catch. This was probably the reason why the teenager was so irritated and ordered Katsura to leave. Initially Xenica had gained Katsura's attention to the extent that she was now staring with her cold emotionless eyes, Nyao on the other hand looked angry enough to scratch Xenica's eyes out. It didn't require mind-reading to come to that conclusion. What Nyao said in equal level of irritation reflected that.
"Hey don't talk to Katsura like that you-" Nyao didn't get to finish her sentence because the still unresponsive Katsura gently placed her index finger on Nyao's mouth and Nyao immediately stopped talking.
"No... Stop." Katsura's voice was monotone and had little to no emotion, this made her come off more as a robot than a human. As Katsura removed the finger, Nyao took a deep breath and resorted to just do a wary glare. Due to this, Katsura found the tall teenage boy with bug digimon a more interesting person to talk to and turned her whole body away from Xenica, now facing Keiji exclusively. Needless to say Katsura did not feel like putting much energy in Xenica let alone obeying her commands.
"Hello... Usually I stay in the forest... I'm Ise Katsura... this is my partner Nyao." Katsura made a greeting bow before Keiji and Nyao, who for the sake of manners had put on a smile for the boy, nodded. Speaking of "distinctive Japanese accent often shared among delinquents and gang members" it turns out Katsura uses "Atai" to refer to herself rather than say "watashi".
"Are they your best friends for life?" Katsura indicated the two bug digimon that also just appeared among him.

”My best friends...for life?” the phrasing of that statement threw him off, and he just kind of stared at the weird-sounding girl, but luckily Haru jumped in to fill the void. The little red digimon was always eager to gush over feelings, so the moment an opportunity was given, the Tentomon surged forward with a gusto, which immediately led to wordless cries from the KoKabuterimon, whose job was clearly to keep him safe.
”Keiji is our partner, but I definitely think he’s my best friend, of course! Toji doesn’t count because he is my brother. He used to be a Tentomon too, until he decided he needed to be bigger and stronger, so now he’s blue.” Haru was utterly unguarded, sharing anecdotes and little quips with this utter stranger. He would happily have spoken to a tree if it seemed friendly enough.
It was Toji who stepped forward, interposing himself between Haru and the girl who called herself Ise, a wall of flesh in case she had untoward intentions. ”If you mean to ask if we were destined to bond? No. We chose Keiji because he was strong enough to do what we needed to do. A mutual partnership. There was nothing destined about it, although people have been calling us digidestined ever since we bonded. But our bond does seem strong. It generated a digivice, and gives us the power to digivolve. And right now we both very much like him. But for life? We’ll see.” Toji voice was very matter-of-fact. Like these were contractual terms they’d all talked about once before or something.
If the wording hurt Keiji at all, he didn’t show it. ”Well, now you’ve both met the twins. I’m Keiji. The red one’s Haru. The blue one’s Toji.” Keiji sounded like he was saving words, like they were too precious or he was too cool to use them. ”And if we’re not gathering...what is this? What are you doing?” he said with a quirked eyebrow to the girl who hadn’t bothered to introduce herself. He picked up on her accent all the same. Skateboarders and graffiti kids used it a lot. Keiji himself didn’t. The schools he went to were too good to let him keep such an accent. ”You seem ruffled.” He said it as a statement, not a question, matching her gaze and smirking a little at the intensity he found there. [Sorry for the delay!]

[attr="class","xenica"]" Aw, you mad, cat girl?" Xenica sneered with a snide smile on her face, knowing she visibly pissed off the girl's Digimon with a single sentence. The sixteen year old laughed to herself, ending her fit with a snort. The shorter girl then decided to ignore her, instead sparking up a conversation with the boy and his two insectoid creatures. Was this girl for real? First she just walks over here like she owns the place, now she's getting all upset and acting like she's better than other people? The delinquent went back to irritated real fast. " Hey, brat! You can't do that! I ain't want you to talk to me, anyway, but don't go disrespecting a sister like that!" It would now be clear to the others that Xenica was very ignorant, and perhaps even a bit arrogant. The girl in the sports jacket prepared to get up and physically fight Katsura, but she was stopped as the third human, introducing himself as Keiji, decided to come and talk. Not wanting to look too stupid in front of a boy, she decided to settle down for a minute. Yeah, just a minute. " What am I doin'? You fuc....ugh, man, I was here first. This ain't fair." She seemed pretty defeated at this point, her tone and frustration calming down the more she talked. " I'm just tryna catch some fish. I don't trust no meat that grows outta the ground, and that's all they got around here." Maybe hunger was causing her to act so caustic. Usually, she would've gotten through three sentences before wanting to fight somebody. One was really unusual. " Right. I'm Xenica, call me Xenny, or Xeezy, if you want. I ain't got a Digimon, if you haven't noticed." She didn't really care to elaborate on that. These losers could figure it out themselves. That Keiji kid did have some pretty cool Digimon, though. Beetles? Man, if she had partners, it'd be them, for sure. Katsura was far from upset, she felt like she had already figured out Xenica. A rather egocentric girl who wanted to get her way and more importantly an excuse to be violent. But Katsura didn't feel like fighting and she didn't want her digimon partner Nyao to encourage Xenica either, so instead she had laid a trap that ensured Xenica would lose face and be seen as an aggressor if she was to attack and to add insult to injury she managed to piss off Xenica with two words and a twirl. By the time Xenica had realized what was going on it took a lot of composure for Nyao to avoid laughing at her temper tantrum thankfully obscured behind Katsura's back. And it paid off! Now Xenica looked like she had calmed down enough to join the conversation. Katsura stepped aside offering Xenica a space to stand up and chime in, while she listened to Keiji and his digimon. For Haru, Katsura nodded and listened intensely it was easy to tell that Katsura liked what he said lots of uhm's could be heard as result of her peaked interest. Likewise she stared and listened to Toji. Katsura made her mouth form a smile, despite everything else in her gesture remained the same as before. Katsura felt she needed to elaborate further to help on the confusion.
"It's the same thing for me... You see... "tamer" is a bad word, it says digimon are just animals or slaves... Some say partner or digidestined, I guess... "Best friends for life" just makes more sense... A digidevice is a symbol of your close bond and every time it's tighten you evolve. And-" "-Katsura we have talked about it before. You're coming off too strong again." "Oh... Sorry about that... The bond between humans and digimon means everything to me. I can't imagine not being with Nyao all the time and I just assumed you felt the same."
Katsura allowed Xenica to answer Keiji first, apparently she was fishing? Well that's one way to get food in the digital world.
"Why not Terminus? A pancake there is only 5 bits" Katsura inquiried, she understood why eating unknown fruits were bad but digimon was still a civilized species so surely it wasn't necessary to fish. After hearing Xenica introduce herself, Katsura spoked again.
"Oh interesting... What's your element?" she asked Xenica, seemly able to understand the implication of not having a digimon partner.

Keiji had a wall of information thrust at him, both about what kinds of people he was dealing with, as well as this ‘element’ nonsense that seemed to revolve around the girl with no digimon. But the first and most important thing he said wasn’t anything to do with any of that. It was simply, ”You guys grow meat? That is so metal!” Keiji was grinning, kid in a candy shop style as he discovered something new and exciting about the Digital World, ”I had wondered if digimon just ate each other like animals, you know. Dinosaur sized monsters have to be mighty hungry.”
Keiji’s assumption that digimon were all predators made Haru and Toji look at him in a panic. ”I would never eat a digimon any more than you would eat...her right there!” Haru said, pointing at the nice girl, not the spikey mean one, ”Blech. Gross. Awful.” Then he looked at Xenica, who had kindly introduced herself at last, and added, ”But...if you did have a fish to spare...I could do some pretty good cooking of it for you. And maybe we could share it?” The Tentomon’s little claws clicked nervously together, nervous now that he’d seen her temper nearly flare up.
Keiji, meanwhile, found her temper sort of adorable. He liked Xenica, and also silently vowed never to call her Xeezy. Ever. ”So, Xen,” he said, intentionally using neither of the nicknames she’d offer just to see if it would bug her, ”Are you stuck or something? Because you could always just, I dunno, go home and get food. I brought some snacks, in fact…” Keiji said, reaching into the deep cargo pockets of his shorts, pulling out beef jerky sticks and a little bag of gummy worms which he’d already opened, ”Haru an Toji taught me how to catch the Trailmon home, so I usually just stock up snacks while I’m there. Then again, I don’t usually stay the night in the Digital World. You camping or something?”
Toji turned to Katsura at that moment, seeing Keiji’s niceness for exactly what it was: flirting. He sighed and decided he’d chat with the only person who seemed to have a brain in this trio of not-tamers. ”I think your description is quite on the mark. Keiji, Haru, and I were always in agreement that this was not a subservient bond. We could break it at any juncture. It just has always been more prudent to maintain our cooperation. And between the two of us...I think he needs us more we need him. And Haru has grown fitfully attached to the stringbean. So yes, friends is a good word. Teammates or Comrades is probably better fit to describe us. Digidestined. Tamer. Those words don’t really fit our bond either.”
