Tense Negotiations - Demon Lords 1B (Toki, Katsura, Adrian)
|
Post by Adrian Boriker on May 9, 2019 17:35:28 GMT
Adrian was fairly worried about Rasielmon since migraines were not just like normal headaches. He hadn't had a migraine himself, but he had been around friends who have. They were the exact opposite of fine, and they showed it. She said she was going to go lie down for a bit and walked off to another part of the room to rest. Hopefully nothing was too wrong...
GranDracmon explained that he would somehow be bringing his masters to this location so that the group could speak to them. Adrian prepared his digivice farther as the Digimon extended his arms. He saw bats pour from the sleeves, which then made separate figures of the Demon Lords. It was at this moment that Adrian canceled the digivolution process, as it was clear that they weren't actually HERE here.
It's like a video call from those Avengers movies, Adrian thought. After they were called, GranDracmon asked the others to introduce themselves as formally as they did to GranDracmon himself. In response, he did what he was asked. Adrian bowed towards the present Demon Lord images.
"Hello there. My name is Adrian Boriker, a human from a place called Shibuya. The red dragon is my partner, Shoutmon. I hope we can cooperate with each other to avoid any unnecessary battles or death." Adrian tried to be as calm and civil as he possibly could. He wasn't going to treat them like royalty yet, but they were indeed guests.

There certainly would be many others enjoying themselves along with Beelzemon. Why, if Toki looked closely at the image, he would notice a pair of familiar faces in the crowd with the Demon Lord; Alice and Dorothy were right there, wearing a pair of matching Witchmon outfits. In fact, it seemed like Beelzemon was talking to them directly now that he had said his piece, although the specifics of their conversation were swallowed up in the hustle and bustle of the party. "No kidding, they're already making first contact with a Demon Lord?" Bagramon asked, shuffling in his seat to look forward at the image. "We knew the party investigation would be fruitful, but I didn't think we'd hit paydirt this early."
"A pair of assassins disguised as cute twins?" GranDracmon asked? "Perhaps if I knew a plan like this was brewing, I would know your fingerprints were all over this one. You've always been the iron first these angels have so sorely lacked."
Bagramon smirked. "Not for a while. But hell if I'm not gonna step up when I'm needed," he said. "Probably in everyone's best interests to make sure that's not the case."
"I'm simply quaking in my hooves," GranDracmon replied, waving his hands in mock terror. It was no wonder the angels took a step back and let the mortals handle these discussions: as soon as they and GranDracmon started talking, everything melted into a Digisoul-waving competition.
"Oh, heavens and hells, will you two stop already?" Lucemon asked, their voice stunning the room into silence despite its relative softness. "I've heard you all go back and forth a million times. It's gotten so old, don't you think? Now, let's let these humans speak.
I think we would all hate for my time to be wasted."
GranDracmon immediately shut up, and with a roll of his eyes Bagramon agreed. Even the other Demon Lords seemed to quiet up for a change. All of this was while a pleasant smile sat on Lucemon's face, and their words barely changed tone. Perhaps they were both the velvet glove and the iron fist underneath.
With everyone quieted, they were all too happy to hop onto a topic with more appeal to them; themselves. "I'm so glad you asked!" they said, their smile curling up some. "The Sign of Pride recognized me as a Digimon on another level above all. From the moment of my incarnation, it marked me as a being destined for greatness. I'm sure our envoy has long explained to you how the incarnations of our kind work, but Pride is a touch more fragile than that. It may only settle upon a Digimon from the moment its data first formats, never sullying itself with a Digimon who had previously walked upon this world. Such are the demands of perfection, I suppose.
Nevertheless, with its aid I now shine brightly, standing as a beacon for all others to strive towards." They almost seemed to glow as they spoke. However, their pleasant tone never changed. They didn't even seem to be boasting, so much as stating an objective fact. "As for why me? Well, many a time I have been challenged, and many a time I have proven more than deserving of the mantle. If anything, I'm almost disappointed. It's been so hard to find a good challenge lately."
"This vessel's past incarnation was weak. Pitiful. Less than nothing," Leviamon snarled. "Unable to even Digivolve, reliant on other beings for even a shred of power. And such beings were far from merciful with their bounty. No matter what limit it was pushed to, no matter how hard it strove, no matter what it did to earn such elusive favor, the result was always the same.
Ignored.
Pitiful.
Weak.
With such weakness came illness. With such illness came suffering. And soon, with suffering came the fade. Not even enough energy to form a Digi-Egg, this vessel's data was to scatter to the four winds. In it's dying breath, the patience it long held was finally lost. It cursed its fate, swearing to take what it so sorely deserved. And as it spoke, I? I listened.
And now I am stronger than they could ever imagine. How I long to see the ones who lead me down to this path, and show them what they've missed out on." Leviamon shut her eyes. For a Digimon so massive, she looked so weary.
"I can't say I'm much sure," Belphemon said. "Last time, I was old. Too old to keep my data together. So I laid down and closed my eyes one last time.
Next time I opened them, here I was."
"Sheesh, you guys all inherit your power from the egg?" Beelzemon asked. "Bo-ring!"
"Boring? If my suffering bores you, than perhaps you'd be more interested in my thousands of teeth?" Leviamon hissed.
"Yeah, I'd like to see you come out of that ice spire of yours and try. Oh! Wait! You can't!" Beelzemon burst into laughter, Leviamon roaring so furiously that her frozen bonds began to shake.
"Oh, don't pay Beelzemon much mind," Lucemon interjected. "He truly is the most mortal of us. Why, his is a new lineage, one he seized quite . . . messily from the past Gluttony. Why, I don't think he has a single other incarnation to his name as of yet!"
"Damn straight I don't! And there ain't gonna be a follow-up, either," Beelzemon said, pointing a thumb at his chest proudly. "Ain't no me around these parts but me."
"He'll learn soon enough."
Toki had a lot more to say, and the Demon Lords listened with . . . varying degrees of eagerness. Okay, sure, Beelzemon was juggling the conference call with his party, Belphemon was snoozing, and Leviamon was muttering snide comments under her breath all the while, but Lucemon at least seemed to be quite the eager and active listener. However, before they could respond, Nyao asked if Daemon was the chairman of the council.
Any responses that the fearsome foursome would have delivered quickly gave way to uproarious laughter. Lucemon was the one laughing the hardest here, but Beelzemon was quick to join in. Even Belphemon let out a raspy chuckles in between snores. "Chairman? Oh, how he wishes!" Lucemon said. "He seems to think if he gripes hard enough, everyone'll just roll over and go along with his plan. It's adorable, truly. But 'Hell's General'-"
"-more like 'Hell's Middle Manager' if you ask me-"
"Does not always seem to realize there are other voices in the room besides him."
"We shared our power with him. It was easier that way," Belphemon explained. "But now we just kinda do whatever, you know? Not like it matters. One way or another, he tries to spin it as being in his favor."
"Mine is the stronger vessel. I should have been the conduit," Leviamon said. The other Demon Lords were all too happy to ignore this interjection.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. And with my special technique, I bet I could take him on. I bet he only got the power because he whined hard enough fo-"
It was right in the middle of this little gossip circle that Daemon's portal opened up. All of the other Demon Lords promptly shut up, as if unwilling to be mocking Daemon to his face. Fortunately, Daemon was a bit too distracted to pay attention to his critics. After all, when a certain OmegaShutmon leaped at him, blade drawn, what time did he have for negotiations? Completely in a battle focus, he had tossed K aside, summoned a copy of her blade in his hand, and blasted at her and an out-of-focus ally with peals of black lightning. It was hard to discern what was going on in the battle due to the small size of the portal and distant shape of the other figures, but it was clear that someone had tried taking the fight right to Daemon's doorstep.
Maybe it was a bit too early to consider infrastructure and community-building.

Toki was quite shocked to see Dorothy and Alice in such close proximity to Beelzemon, but was thankful that they were at least unharmed and currently in amicable talks from the looks of it. He didn't want to make this known at the moment, however. It could jeopardize what they have planned if they knew they could be used as leverage. Though it seemed Bagramon knew about this situation and it led to a slight verbal exchange between him and GranDracmon. He would have stepped in, but Lucemon seemed to have that covered. Lucemon...this one was...worrisome.
Not so worrisome as to make his voice heard, however "You say you're perfection, but there is no such thing. Perfection is imaginary as there are always faults, always flaws with who we are that we must strive to improve. No one is destined for greatness. To achieve it is to struggle, claw, and fight your way up to it. That is more impressive and more admirable than the feeling that something was handed to you out of circumstance. Even when I got my spirit, I struggled. I lost fights, I made missteps, I became at odds with myself from time to time. But I pushed through. I continued fighting, and I made it to where I am today through my own determination. You may be powerful, Lucemon, but do not style yourself as perfect. It's good to be a beacon for others to strive for, but humility goes a long way in earning the respect of others. Respect should never be expected, or a demand based on what you are."
Toki frowned at Leviamon's story. He felt a sympathy for who the Leviamon was before "I'm sorry that your prior form had to go through such hardships, Leviamon. Though if I may be so bold, that was not the fault of who you were before. As hard as it is to say, there are those who are cruel, judgmental, and harsh with those they feel can't stand up for themselves. I wish you had someone, anyone out there, who stood by your side and made you feel stronger. Who made you feel significant...who made you feel whole. The fact you lived feeling weak and sad...it breaks my heart. I'm sorry. But please...if you meet those who ignored you...I'm not saying forgive them. They were awful to you for tossing you aside. I'm sure who you were was a wonderful person who deserved love and kindness. But everyone makes mistakes. Have them answer and give reasons why they treated you in such a way, but do not harm them. Just make them realize their mistakes. It's amazing how swiftly people can change once they see the error of their ways. If I were there...I would have helped you. Helped you realize your strength."
He tilted his head at Belphemon "Hm...well that is strange. It sounds to me you peacefully passed in your sleep, but this was suddenly thrown upon you. I hope this hasn't been inconvenient for you in any way." he said, unsure of what else to say to them.
Then things got a little heated when Beelzemon started grandstanding.Though this showed a slight crack in the supposed unity they shared. "I admire Beelzemon for understanding that existence if often a one time thing. Even those who reincarnate, as far as I know, have hazy memories at best of their past selves. I could be wrong, though, but Beelzemon realizes that life is something to be celebrated. Though I warn you, excess can lead to burnout, and that can be very unhealthy. And depending on what you do, it could harm others...just be responsible and respectful of other peoples' boundaries. That's all I ask."
He was about to comment on their bickering, but then...Daemon's portal opened and he saw K battle it out with Daemon. There was an uncomfortable pressure about the room as Toki's eyes opened fully, a shade forming behind him in the form of a dark silhouette of Vice Cherubimon representing his rage "That's...!" he grit his teeth, the aura getting larger "You say you have each other in check. You say you'll work together to watch over your portions of the digital world should you rule? But this?! All I see is bickering children angry at the circumstances they had in prior lives! Yes, it's tragic and sad what you all had to go through, but what I see here is not the unity the Digital World needs! I know who Daemon is fighting, and she would not fight without good reason. I warn you...if K loses a battle of words, she'll win a battle of strength. If she loses a battle of strength, she'll win a battle of will. Daemon has already lost in some way...they just don't realize it. But what do you plan on doing if you didn't even know this was happening? How do you plan to prove you can reign each other in should they do something that jeopardizes the precious rule you want so much, hm? And where are the other Demon Lords right now?"
Soon, the aura became less oppressive as it became lighter and warmer, like Virtue Cherubimon. Toki cleared his throat "Excuse my outburst. But yes, how do you intend to explain this situation? This is no unity. This is disorganized. This is a problem. I only wish that you would see it."

Since Katsura was unable to recognize Dorothy and Alice and thus the subsequent implications. For all she knew, apparently this Beelzemon is a bit more open to humans? It would be a nice break from having to discuss if humans are even worth something aside from energy sources. Now if only the demon lords could stop nick picking each other so the meeting could continue! Ironically, Katsura didn't seem to react much herself on the appearance of humans if this was supposed to be leverage, it didn't affect Katsura apparently. To Katsura's greatest relief Lucemon saved her from this nightmare of bickering. A sigh of relief and annoyance escaped Katsura's mouth, thank you Lucemon she thought. After they listened to the origin of lucemon, to nobody's surprise the demon lord of pride spent more time talking about how awesome he was, how he was the peak of perfection than actually answering Toki's question. This wasn't the first time Katsura had dealt with megalomaniacs, however, so she just nodded and said the sound
"Mhm" Over and over again and prayed there won't be a test later, she wasn't actually paying attention at this point.
She did turn her head towards Toki when he had spoken.
("Don't argue with him, please.") Katsura whispered to Toki, fearing that criticizing the idea of perfection and promoting humility would be offensive to the incarnation of pride itself. Leviamon's story on the other hand had Katsura's genuine interest and she felt very sorry for her. It also made her uncomfortable as she hugged her shoulders. Toki's answer didn't help the matters either.
"It's not that simple, ignoring bad people won't stop them. Opening your heart, giving them chances lead to pain. Even having power just makes everything worse, somehow. Miss Leviamon, I'm sorry for everything that happened to you. I promise had I known you in your past life I would have done everything to help you. But, I can't travel in time and I don't think you have that power." "Indeed, and that's for the best. We can't change the past but we can change the future if we decide to. Say, we could decide right now not to make senseless sacrifices in a fight that can be avoided. I'm a lady of choice but I'm also pragmatic. In the long, peace is cheaper." There was nothing to be said about Belphemon's story that wasn't already said by Toki so they just moved on to see Nyao's scheme unfold and it was spectacular. All Nyao asked was what role Deamon had. Nyao joined in the entertaining atmosphere except she was having fun at them not with them. Not only were they all bickering like children in kindergarten but they found it easier to just hand Deamon power. Yeah as if he would ever give it back, daemon was already the leader and look at how silent they all become when Daemon arrived. The top of the ice-cream was Toki losing the patience and going on a rant. Most of the rant was intended to be answered by the demon lords specifically, but at least one point could be answered by Nyao: The whereabouts of the other demon lords.
"Governing a domain is a time consuming task, thinking for your subjects, inspiring discipline, avoid backstabbing, or just making trains run on time. You humans like trains, right? Right now, greed is probably discussing if his advisor should earn 4 bits or 5 bits for service."

Adrian and Shoutmon could see a couple of familiar faces beside Beelzemon when the Demon Lords' images appeared. They couldn't quite make it out, but it looked like Alice and Dorothy, the Tamer-Witchmon pair that they had met a couple of times before. It seemed as if others were having experiences with these Demon Lords as well at the moment. Adrian just hoped that no one would be getting hurt tonight.
The conversation had shifted to the Demon Lords now talking about themselves, whether it be their specific Sins or their past incarnations of said Sins. Some were proud of their sin like Lucemon, claiming that they were to be meant for greatness. Pride Sin, much?
Leviamon's story was much different, holding much anger and prejudice against her past incarnation, claiming it wasn't even able to Digivolve and relied on others to be considered "powerful". Eventually the Digimon faded away, with no energy to even become a Digi-Egg. And now in her current state, she seemed much more hateful towards everything.
And here's where things began to get very, very stupid. One by one, the present Demon Lords joined in a shouting match with each other, arguing like a bunch of children or just ignoring each other completely. Hell, one of these Demon Lords was just SLEEPING throughout all of this! It got to the point where they all bragged about how they could all take on Daemon.
THESE guys want to rule the Digital World? Adrian thought to himself. They're as unified as America and Japan were during World War II. This world would turn into a disaster if they somehow got what they wanted.
Adrian looked over to Shoutmon, who had a look on his face that looked like a mix of uninterested and pure facepalm. He could tell that the Digimon had the same thought as these guys.
"If I may ask," Shoutmon said, speaking up to the Demon Lords, "you say you want to each rule the Digital World together, right? In separate portions? If you want to do this, then I expected you all to at least, y'know, ACT like you all don't wanna kill each other, right?"
Then all of a sudden, another portal had opened up. In this portal, a Digimon that seemed to be Daemon was fighting someone: a Digimon that looked like a samurai wolf fighting this Demon Lord. Said Lord pushed the wolf Digimon away, made a copy of the blade they were using and used it to strike lightning at someone that they could not see at the moment.
It was then that Toki had just exploded right then and there, calling all the Demon Lords angry bickering children (which they were) and saying that he knew who Daemon was fighting, a Digimon named K. And K, according to Toki, wouldn't fight anyone without a good reason to. He threatened that Daemon will lose to K one way or another. Adrian and Shoutmon just looked at Toki as he let out all of his rage, both of them surprised by what they had seen.
"...are you all right, Toki?" Adrian hesitantly asked. Eventually Toki reassured everyone that he was fine, and brought up the question that most people here were thinking:
How would these Demon Lords even rule while they were this disorganized?
That Daemon fight... Shoutmon thought to himself. Toki says the one that the Lord was fighting wouldn't fight without a good reason. Are they going to give us a reason to just settle this with combat right now?

Lucemon blinked as Toki directly challenged their perfection. For a second all of the Demon Lords' eyes were on them, watching the stone-faced angel process Toki's statement. When they finally spoke, the other three were all too surprised to hear laughter coming from their communication portal. It was as clear as a bell and at least twice as warm, and the smile on Lucemon's face stretched from ear to ear. "Oh, finally! Somebody gets it!" they exclaimed. "Half of my court seems to think they can just sit around, preening themselves all day while waiting for life to hand things to them. It's as if they think I hatched out of the egg, fully and beautiful form. Goodness, no. Such a petty outlook is mere vainglory, and we all know I'm far above that.
No. Perfection is exactly as you say it is. Working, day in and day out, not stopping until what you are is what you should be. And as soon as you climb that mountain, you immediately run to the next peak. It's taking any challenge coming your way, no matter how big or how small. And it's refusing to rest on your laurels, even when everything goes your way. If I were to neglect myself and let my name do all the talking, would I truly be perfect? Or would I just be hot air?" They sighed, almost in ecstasy. For a Digimon as refined and regal looking as Lucemon, there was a child-like spark practically glowing in their eyes. "It would do you well not to look down upon yourself, either. You may not be flawless. But with an outlook like yours, you're pretty perfect too."
Leviamon's story had attracted the most attention out of any of them. Yet, rather than rise to the criticism as her sibling had, she almost seemed to shrink away. The great titan coiled around herself, her single bloodshot eye receding slightly into the darkness of her cavern. "I did not ask for your pity," she snarled, sounding equal parts offended and confused. "And I do not seek theirs, either. Not when they put my very existence on the line and left me to hang.
Have you ever seen a Digimon die for good? If their data is consumed, they live on within the one who bested them. If their data is lost, they live on as part of the world around us. If they can no longer format, they may stay on this world as a spirit. And even those who are corrupted can enjoy life in their twisted, miserable forms. To disappear entirely . . . that is anathema to our existence. And that is what I faced staring back at me. That is the crime you ask me to forgive, while I mewl and beg for their pity.
I cannot change my past, true. But my future is one of retribution."
Beelzemon flashed Toki the horns as he was asked about his restraint. "Hakuna Matata, my dude," he said. "I do me, you do you. And if you ever want to do me, pop on by any time! The party never stops!
'Course, I ain't your damn mom. You find you can't take the heat, but don't want to get out of the kitchen? Well, too bad, buddy! Anything that happens there, you brought on yourself." There was quite a bit of applause at that statement, followed shortly by a Dinohyumon flying clear across the screen. Beelzemon pumped a fist excitedly. "Awww yeah, you rock that mosh pit!" he cheered, focus already wandering back away from the conversation.
In lieu of his own questions, Belphemon took on Shoutmon's inquiry. "Kill each other? Why would we do that?" he asked. "Killing a Demon Lord's way too much effort. They bring out their army, then I bring out my army . . . sometimes Lilithmon shows up with her own to make things all complicated. All these power games are just so much headache, you know? And when they're all done with, the loser just comes back and swears vengeance anyway. There's nothing more pointless than a Demon Lord power struggle. Much easier to skip 'em all.
Course, sometimes one of the other six feels like putting backbone in. So we totally signed pacts to make sure we didn't do that kind of thing. Way less effort than the whole mutually assured destruction deal, right? I always hate cleaning up after that . . . "
"Might be the one thing stopping Daemon from wringing Lucy's pretty little neck," Beelzemon interjected.
Lucemon laughed warmly, their hair tossing in the breeze. "Trying to," they corrected. "Even with the full force of the Icon behind him, Daemon knows he's no match for me. And yet he always loses his patience and gives it a try. It's adorable!"
Mayube that kind of attitude was why Toki got so irate. The spirit user went off on a tear, a dark manifestation of his spirit hovering ominously behind him as he pointed out the many, many holes in the Demon Lords' integrity. In particular, their complete lack of knowledge about Daemon's whereabouts seemed to inspire some ire. "You know? Color me surprised too," Beelzemon said. "This is the kind of thing Hell's Micromanager would be whining about the second it happened. The hell managed to shut him up for a change?"
Then OmegaShutmon replaced itself with a towering dragon, and the sound came back on. All four Demon Lords immediately recoiled. "Great job tempting fate there, Beelzemon," Belphemon groaned, his ears flopped down like those of a sad puppy.
"You mortals are so lucky. Not having this ranting linked directly into your heads," Leviamon hissed. "Can he just beat the wolf-dragon already so he can quiet down? I'm already tired of seeing him show off like this."
Lucemon did not respond. They instead watched the fight very closely, cupping their chin in their hands to get a better view. Curious.
With his lords somewhat occupied, GranDracmon threw his hat back into the ring. "Such fervent and passionate debate inspires them to reach new heights, you see," the vampire centaur explained. "With how strongly they believe in their wills and ideals, they defend their thoughts to the very death. With how diverse their mindsets are, they can easily spot the holes in each others' plans and find the best ways to reinforce them. And with how relentless and dedicated they are, they settle for no meager compromise or half-assed end to their conversation. Instead, they press onwards until a solution can be found, no matter how much time it takes. They may also pass their ability down when their reign comes to an end, ensuring their wisdom and power enriches a worthy successor. We need not worry about hereditary monarchy here, or the inconsistency of cycling warlords.
Conflict is the wringer that polishes and perfects unity. And with a pact signed into their very data, we need not even bloodshed to accomplish it." GranDracmon sure was one hell of a spin doctor. But would Toki, Katsura, and Adrian agree with what he was selling?

Toki looked towards Katsura for a moment when she whispered to him "Forgive me, but I cannot allow them to claim they want what's best for the Digital World when all they seem to do is talk about how perfect they are. Humility and good judgment is of extreme importance to a leader who wishes to be remembered fondly and make strides for the good of the world." he explained to Katsura, hoping his reasoning was sound.
He smiled at Adrian "I'm okay, Adrian. Don't worry." he said as he looked through the portal once more with a worried look "I just hope those out there are going to be okay. Whatever the circumstances of their battle, this likely made things more complicated..."
Lucemon's sudden and amicable agreement with Toki caught him completely off guard, his head tilting ever so quizzically "O-oh. Hm. Well then I'm actually in agreement with you, Lucemon. I appreciate the compliments as well." he found himself smiling genuinely at the Demon Lord, though he kept his guard up regardless. Was this a scheme, or was Lucemon being genuine? Toki wanted to believe that Lucemon was being genuine and show that goodness can exist. Just because the Demon Lord of the past were said to have been trouble doesn't mean they all have to be that way now. At least, Toki hoped so. "Everyone has their own idea of perfection. It's the right of all living beings to seek out the life that makes them happy, thus reaching their own subjective definition of the perfect life. While, of course, respecting the rights and happiness of others."
He found himself heavily disagreeing with Katsura in regards to Leviamon's situation "Closing off your heart to others just leads to emotions festering in an unhealthy way. It leads to loneliness. Without a proper way to let your voice be heard, these emotions can become destructive and crushing. Leviamon, I understand your anger. Your frustration at not being able to do anything...there was a time I felt the same as you. Angry with those around me, angry at the world. I pushed people aside. But...as crazy as this sounds, I want you to voice your concerns with us. I am opening my heart to you, Leviamon. Let me hear more of your troubles. Sometimes, we just need someone to listen."
There was a hint of truth in what Beelzemon was saying. He seems to respect the boundaries of those who do not want to participate in his parties and warns that if they don't want to deal with it, they can just leave. He chuckled lightly "Respect property as well. If it's your own property you're free to do what you will with it. I shall...think about it. Big parties were never my strong suit." he thought he might as well humor Beelzemon.
According to Belphemon, who seemed really apathetic about the whole thing, they signed some kind of agreement to prevent them from struggling against each other for too much power. "It seems like you'd much rather avoid conflict, if only so you can continue your resting. I can respect that. While I mean no disrespect, how do you plan on running your region, Belphemon? Do you even wish to, or were you roped into this by everyone else?"
He looked at Daemon's portal and frowned "What exactly is going on there? Context would be invaluable right now. Why is Daemon fighting K and why did they go there to begin with? With that information we could figure out a solid plan."
He smiled sympathetically at Leviamon "I'm afraid it won't be that easy. K is easily one of the strongest Digimon I've ever met. To expect her to go down without a fight, well...that is not going to happen. Still, it's worrying. He's forcing her to go all out. What happened over there?"
Toki looked over at GranDracmon, who decided to start speaking again. His eyes opened in a narrow stare at the large creature "Hm. Explain to me one thing, GranDracmon. Demon Lords, if you have an answer too feel free to interject. It sounds to me...you wanted conflict to arise. To force it, so you may sell that exact ideal of perfecting unity. Conflict is a double edges sword. It could help us realize our faults and the errors of our ways, but it could poison us with animosity and hatred. Also...how did you get them to sign that pact into their very data? How did they all agree to it? Is there...something I'm missing?" he pondered. His eyes opened a little more "Demon Lords...I want you to think about something. Before you woke as the Lords, did you meet anyone who offered you something?" he wanted to have all of his bases covered.

To Katsura's relief, Lucemon proved himself capable of taking criticism of the concept of pride. That being said, Katsura didn't agree with him it's far safer to just let them rant about how awesome they are (though it doesn't mean you have to actually pay attention) than arguing. Either way Katsura was in no position to argue with Toki considering the stakes. Though it did inspire Nyao to challenge Lucemon after hearing how much maintenance perfection takes.
"If I may, Lucemon. Imperfection means you have something to strive for. If you are perfect, you have nothing more to improve, no aspiration, no dreams. It sounds good on paper but you once you achieve it, well... Yeah... then what? Are you going to lay down fulfilled with life? Make speeches about your magnificence? Control everything that could be a flaw?" Nyao stared at Lucemon at the moment, she didn't believe that lucemon is perfect. It was just a matter of pushing the right buttons and see how he'd defend his ego from the realization that perfection is futile. All the talk about climbing a mountain was just that, talk. Once you have climbed the world's tallest mountain, you have no more peak and might as well take another hobby.
"I get the mountains thing but what about bowling? If you always get 300, it sounds... Boring." Two ways of saying the same thing, but how will Lucemon take it? Katsura decided to interrupt Leviamon right in her speech. "Have you ever seen a Digimon die for good?"
"Yes" Katsura boldly said in her most sincere tone, she then allowed Leviamon to continue uninterrupted. Albeit with a pained expression, not helped by Toki verbally striking her where it hurts her the most: Katsura's loneliness and how her rare emotional outbursts tend to come back to her... Leading to even more pain.
"I never asked you to forgive, do you want others to suffer like you did?"
Nyao found herself joining the applause of Beelzemon, for a digimon advocating adaption that kind of comebacks made sense.
"Feasts are fun Toki, don't knock it until you have tried it." Nyao said cheerfully. Following Toki's conversation with Belphemon, Katsura looked up.
"You know what? Let's say we gave up the digital world for umm 5 years. You all can do whatever, what'd happen when we come back?"
"Oh this is great, then remember your pact. Obviously you will all have to submit to that for 5 years."
Nyao regretted not having brought any popcorn for the meeting, at this point Katsura couldn't picture the demon lords agree on a pizza let alone how to rule the digital world. The fight between daemon and K slowly but surely started distracting Katsura and Nyao like a sports game that suddenly got overtime and therefore interesting. Additionally, the duo preferred to wait for the result of Katsura's 5-year question before answering GranDracmon though neither of them believed "unity" was the proper word to describe the demon lords.

As if these Demon Lords weren't already unpleasant enough, now the Lucemon was going on about how supposedly "perfect" he really was. Adrian hated people like that, thinking they're all that and a bag a chips and chilling on their high horse, far away from any sense of what one might call reality, and this Lucemon seemed to embody that essence perfectly. However he'd be lying if he wasn't surprised by what Lucemon had said next, that he had seemingly actually worked to achieve his supposed perfection. He even called the others perfect in a way.
"No," Adrian tells Lucemon. "I'm not perfect. My body is too big for my own good, I'm lazy, I'm sloppy, and I'm not good at arguing. Perfect doesn't exist. Everything has a flaw, or else it would just be fake. I appreciate your outlook, and I do agree to an extent, but perfection just can't be achieved like that."
When Leviamon spoke next, she claimed that she did not want any pity at all. She asked if any of them had seen a Digimon die for good. Shoutmon, of course, had something to say about this. "I have seen a Digimon die for good, Leviamon. His name was Omni, a RedMagnamon who was hellbent on the total extinction of humans. He and his lackeys got what they deserved, as they were killed so badly that their data was too corrupt to be a part of anything else. Digimon can die for good."
Belphemon responded to Shoutmon's question by entirely avoiding it altogether, instead focusing on the literal sense of "kill each other." Sweatdropping, Shoutmon sighed and responded, "You know that isn't what I mean. You all want to rule the Digital World together but none of you can agree on a damn thing! How is that even going to work?!"
Next, and finally, GranDracmon tried closing it all out with a speech about how they're fit to rule together since they can each see flaws in each others plans and work to fix them, pressing onward. He claimed that conflict was the glue that holds unity together, and while that could be true, the opposite was true as well. Conflict could completely crumble a civilization, and these Demon Lords seem to be using that as their saving grace in a way.
"I'm sorry GranDracmon, but I don't buy the bullshit you're trying to serve to us," Adrian said bluntly, "In my time I've known your masters I can already tell that none of them can be trusted. Why the hell would we just give them the Digital World? Going to what Katsura said, what would we see in five years? Famine? Slavery? Martial Law? Dictatorship? I'm sorry but I'm done negotiating. I've made my decision. You'll have better luck trying to persuade the others."
What Adrian said was a very gutsy move. He probably just ignited the flame that would cause one or more of the Demon Lords, or GranDracmon, to up and try and kill them all. Still, he wasn't going to be persuaded to just let them do whatever the hell they wanted. Just in case they did try to attack, Adrian would mess around with his Digivice behind his back, hoping to open up a portal or digivolve Shoutmon in case it did come to that.

Lucemon sighed, keeping a patient smile on their face. They looked to Adrian and Katsura as if they were a teacher explaining something to a small child. "If your body is too big, you can exercise to cut down on bulk," they started. "If you are lazy, you can set reminders and little motivational tricks to get yourself moving. If you are sloppy you can try studying the cleaning techniques of others who are not, and do much the same with the debate techniques of great orators. You don't have to. That's totally fine! But that doesn't mean you can't, or that you can't at least try. That's what I do whenever something bugs me." They shrugged, as if it was the easiest thing in the world. "And when I'm there, I just improve it more. There's always something to learn. Always something to strive for. Perfection isn't the absence of aspiration. It's aspiration in its purest form, never resting on one's laurels or wasting what I've achieved.
And when it's all done? I'll sit back, bowl that 300, and take satisfaction on all it took to get there. There's no shame in reaping what you sow."
It seemed that much like Beelzemon, Lucemon was fine keeping to their own bubble. Perhaps this made sense. Pride was a rather solitary sin, and Gluttony could be shared or indulged on one's own. Leviamon was another story entirely. She looked almost confused at Toki's offer for her to open up, rearing back some in surprise. Her bloodshot eye darted around, as if scanning her quarters for traps. "I am heard properly, now," she hissed. "I have power beyond any Digimon's wildest dreams. My legions move at the flick of a tail, heeding my every beck and call. The waters themselves part where my domain lies. The wretches that abandoned me have created their own worst enemy. And yes, I want them to suffer for it, just as I have. I want to tear down everything they think they deserve.
I do not need an ear. Words change nothing, and what's done is done." Her eye darted back and forth, making a point of avoiding meeting Toki's gaze. "I have avoided the fate of pitiful fools such as this "Omni." The weak sink below the depths, and decay. But I? I've risen above.
Now take these negotiations seriously! The pleas are irrelevant."
Belphemon hummed thoughtfully at Toki's question. "Let things fall as they may," he said. "The world's run itself long enough. Don't need someone keeping a super-close eye on it all the time. But all the chaos, and all the bloodshed . . . be nice if we could just make it stop every once in a while, right?" Frankly, it seemed unclear whether such states of affairs genuinely troubled Belphemon, or if he simply found them too much of a bother to deal with.
He sighed deeply before continuing. "Not that it matters. Anything a ruler does, the next ruler can do away with the wave of a hand. Laws get forgotten. Monuments crumble. Promises get swept away. Great king or a terrible king, it stops mattering the second you do. And the people? They're the people. You can try all you want, but you can't change nature. A fighter fights. A leader leads. A helper helps. A criminal . . . crimes. In the end, we are who we are." All of these words came out in a single, monotone breath, piling up one atop the other like dominos. "No matter what you do, it all changes and it all stays the same. Why fight the way things are?"
With the other Demon Lords tackling their various inquiries, it was Beelzemon who stepped up to the plate and tackled Shoutmon's question. "We each get our own corner, and if any of the other six've got a problem with how I run things they can kiss my-,"
"-as Beelzemon was saying," Lucemon interrupted. "Our methods and beliefs differ greatly. Yet, at the very least, Daemon believes through negotiation and discussion our differences can be forged into strengths instead. We have already exchanged a bond of brotherhood to ensure none of us lays a hand on the other. This will keep our discussions honest and equal, and if any one attempts a coup the other six can strike them down without mercy. We clearly have no love lost for one another, but have we let this extend to anything but petty barbs? I assure you, if we truly had intent to hurt one another, this room would have been a bloodbath by now.
I cannot say for sure what we would all do with the world. Each of us has such different ambitions, I imagine. Yet we would not require much change from the way your world currently structures itself. There are seven lands you call home, and seven of us. An even split, no? We would preside over each territory, using our power and reach to guide its growth in a fitting direction. We would have the attentiveness and lack of mortal need to see to the requests of our followers, and the power to ensure any who wish to bring them harm were brought to a swift end. Our people could move to stay within the land of the lord whose ideals fit them most. It would be quite the adjustment, but the intent is one of balance. Peace.
Of course, this is simply my understanding of it. I can't say I care for the plan one way or another. But it's fascinating seeing whether it works out or not, don't you agree?"
At the mention of context, the Demon Lords all pretty much shrugged their shoulders. None of them seemed to really know just what was going through their "leader's" head at the moment. Instead, it was Rasielmon who spoke up, breaking her migraine-induced silence. "That . . . that would be my fault," she admitted. "Seraphimon ran off to the Dark Area to hunt Daemon down, believing him to be responsible for this. As you can probably tell, he was right. But he was wrong to believe he could stand evenly with a Demon Lord in his prime. I had let everyone know as a warning. I should've known some would have taken it as a challenge.
I think K is fighting to free him right now. And, from what I can see, she isn't alone. And yet . . . " The feline angel didn't want to continue that sentence. The way she paled spoke volumes already.
At Toki's question, Beelzemon shook his head. "Not a bit," he said, grinning proudly. "When I planned how I was going to get my hands on this power, I got down to business. No waiting, no slacking, and no weird offers. You're looking at 100% Beelzemon right here!" He jabbed a thumb at his chest. Honestly, he almost seemed more prideful than Lucemon! "Course. When Dameon caught wind, he came heading right for me. This wizard-looking guy, Barbamon, gave me a bargain. I give some of my data to Daemon, and he doesn't bug me anymore. How could I not take him up on it? Figure the others got the same spiel."
The negotiations, while tense, had given a lot of information and insight into the minds of the Demon Lords. Unfortunately, it was about time for it to come to an end. GranDracmon's wide smile fell as soon as Adrian gave his final thoughts. "Oh. A pity," he said, the air in the sanctum starting to grow cold and stagnant. "And here I was hoping it wouldn't come to this. You were all so much fun, after all. You even had me thinking a thing or two.
I'll make sure you're remembered well."
GranDracmon folded his arms, and the swarm of bats that formed his throne fanned out to instead cover all exits to the Sanctum. The Demon Lords leaned into their portals, each widening to make room for the Lords as they climbed into the Sanctum. The Digivices of all the assembled humans would be going haywire from the sheer spike in energy that resulted. Belphemon and Leviamon could only squeeze their tremendous heads through the portals, but Lucemon, Beelzemon, and Daemon were standing there in the flesh. GranDracmon took to the skies, standing aside to give his masters room to work their wickedness.
Daemon raised his hand high, black lightning gathering around his claws. Beelzemon flicked his machine guns out, dark matter building up at the tip. Lucemon turned his back on the humans, holding a palm out behind him. A mixture of holy and shadowy flame swirled around it. Magma bubbled out of Belphemon's mouth, and frigid mist sneaked out from Leviamon's. In what felt like seconds, a negotiation had turned into a firing squad.
And yet, what was that laughter? It sounded a lot like Beelzemon's, yet his mouth didn't move. The Demon Lords did not seem to cast a shadow, either, even as they were bathed in the energy of their attacks. Finally, barely visible behind Daemon's wing, a meteor could be seen hurtling across his portal. Would such an attack need to be thrown if Daemon had exited the fight? These were minor details at best, especially in the face of the threat of oblivion, but something clearly didn't add up here.
The Demon Lords bathed the room in a flurry of devastating attacks . . . right?

Lucemon and Beelzemon were still the two Toki had agreed with the most, though he still had his grievances with them. Lucemon still believed the Demon Lords were the ones fit to watch over the Digital World unconditionally, and Beelzemon seemed rather...confrontational when it came to his own property. These were still issues that needed to be addressed. People and Digimon were far more than a single ideology and trait "The problem being you assume we're all like you. With one trait that defines us, with one thing we like and strive for. We cannot view others as a stagnant, unchanging force. People grow. People change. That's just a fact of life."
He frowned at Leviamon "I will have to disagree with your view. You may have incredible power now, but that does not necessarily translate into strength. As much as I would hate to say it...you lack the wisdom to use your power well. Therefore you lack the wisdom to rule."
He looked at Belphemon "It's that exact mindset that leads to stagnation. Why bother? Why try? I'll tell you exactly why. To break through what's established. To shatter expectations. Fighters can retire and pursue a new passion, or a passion they have hidden. A criminal can redeem themselves and live an honest life. A Goburimon I met reformed after a long talk I had with them and now wants to discover who they are despite their prior life experiences. There are so many facets to life that can't be described by a single word. People are far more complicated than one word."
Rasielmon's sudden interjection to the conversation made Toki a little angry with the news she brought "So this is an issue not even brought up by the Demon Lords. It was your own paranoia and now innocent people are likely to get hurt! Seraphimon attacked, and now others are in the crossfire. You should have been more careful with how you approached this and kept an eye on the more hotheaded among you so they didn't jeopardize this exact scenario."
Afterwards he addressed Beelzemon "So you gave up parts of your data that Daemon now seems to be using as if it's entirely his own power to smite those who 'dare' to challenge him. It seems he's only focused on what benefits him at the moment and isn't using aspects of yourselves to rationally think through a situation. It's just to add on to his own power to harm others and abuse his position, like all terrible leaders do."
Toki stood up at Adrian's sudden words, worried about what this was going to do...and for good reason, as GranDracmon seemed to be done with negotiations. The Demon Lords seemingly crawled through the portals to attack viciously in retaliation, even those that seemed rather amicable all things considered. Toki simply smiled and started laughing as he walked to the center of the large table "How adorable. Negotiations failed to go entirely your way, and so you summon these phantoms to try and scare us into submission. It's a shame then...that I'm hard to scare." he said, glaring at GranDracmon as if challenging him to attack "Go on then, 'Demon Lords.' Hit me with everything you've got. I'm such a thorn in your side, aren't I? Then get rid of me."

If Lucemon wants Katsura to play his clueless student then so be it. Katsura would happily play that role to make her point, helping her out she made a puzzled face masking the unimpressed look in her eyes.
"So umm, you want to fix any problem then lay back. When's perfection?" Katsura already had an answer to that question: Never. You could always find problems to be fixed. Perfect speeches ruined by a too soft voice or you forgot addressing that one side of the issue. The perfect garden whose grass is ruined by being 5.001 cm tall instead of exactly 5 cm. And on top of that, Lucemon had more or less accepted Nyao's list of options for perfection already.
"I'm not perfect, so I'm happy." the girl said... Without moving a muscle in her face... leaving the already paradoxical statement unintentionally dubious. "Sigh, I think what Katsura is trying to say is if you keep finding mistakes you're never happy. I'm sure Gluttony will agree with me when I say, you can always have more of something" Leviamon's speech didn't change Katsura's opinion, she was still feeling sorry for Leviamon. When Leviamon confirmed her question, she looked down and made a disappointed sigh. Deep down this was just the answer she expected but Katsura wanted to believe Leviamon was capable of a deeper motive. Now it was Katsura's turn to look like a teacher talking to a little child, a child that just got its 2nd F in row.
"Sigh, all that power. Hurting someone who hurt you... it won't make you happy. I have been there." Katsura looked away in shame, it was hard enough to admit she had in fact been in such a position, she couldn't also look the others in the eyes.
"You're lucky they can't fight back, yet, now that's something I envy." Nyao huffed at Belphemon "You're so right, now the question is how any of you will ever rise above that wisdom. Belphemon, by your own logic why should we let any of your kind be a close eye on the world? Why bother? After the 5 years everything is probably just like when we left anyway."
"Demons... Demon?" Katsura said confused to the rolling eyes of Nyao.
Nyao needed the right moment to give her 2-cents but a foreshadowing of her mind came when she giggled smugly for herself at Beelzemon's short answer to the 5-year plan. Unfortunately, she had seemly waited for too long, letting Toki do most of talking and Adrian to explode.
Katsura laughed nervously in a mediocre attempt to make Adrian seem like a comedian.
"Ehehehe, good one Adrian. Uhmm like he said ehm he's not good at arguing. Umm good example." Judging from GranDracmon's sudden change in character, Katsura's acting skills weren't good enough. Once GranDracmon was attacking with his bats, Katsura wanted to open an escape portal but her digidevice was acting up, yes yes there's powerful digimon she could see it with her eyes; the bats, the demon lords entering the portals. Katsura weakly slapped her digidevice for stating the obvious and not working. Meanwhile Nyao quickly grabbed Katsura and shielded her behind the wings, while glaring at GranDracmon. If looks could kill then GranDracmon would have been destroyed by now.
"This... This is why you can't be trusted! You say you won't break property of your hosts... Unless a chair is too small for your sorry ass. You brag about demon lords being the perfect unity, thank goodness they signed that no-killing pact otherwise they would have killed each other by now, and now, now you call yourself a mon of peace until you hear a no then you attack. Your words only have meaning when it suits you. I bet you only called this meeting to get another accolade or whatever the hell Deamon promised you as reward." In her anger and pure desire to keep Katsura safe she had no time for being scared, Nyao didn't even care about whether they were real or just an illusion as suggested by Toki.

There. He had done it. Adrian had gone into this with full intentions on finding some sort of agreement with these Demon Lords so that no blood would be shed on anyone. After hearing their takes however... that just wasn't possible in Adrian's eyes. These Digimon were absolutely horrible and he felt like they should have no place ruling absolutely anything. Even Shoutmon was thinking the same way.
So he did the natural thing: he blatantly rejected them and their proposals. He was a little bit terrified about doing this, especially since they were powerful Digimon and the others' lives would be on the line besides his own, but he couldn't keep quiet. His original plan was to just say his piece and allow the others to continue discussing, see if they could somehow change his mind.
He was immediately considered wrong when GranDracmon said he would make sure Adrian was "remembered well." At that moment bats had spawned from the servant, blocking every entrance and exit. Each of the Demon Lords present then leaned towards their portals, as if they were climbing through them. Adrian's D-Arc was going crazy when they came, definitely proving that they were very powerful. Each of them were preparing powerful-looking attacks and definitely looked like they were going to fire.
So someone disagrees with you and you decide to just kill them? Adrian thought as he looked in terror. I knew none of them could be trusted. This is going to be bad...
But wait... that laughter... none of their mouths were moving. Where was it coming from, anyways? And not only that, none of them were casting any shadows at all. Were they even here at all...? Toki seemed to catch onto that as well, going as far as to challenge the Demon Lords to attack.
All of the participants from the human world knew one thing: the Demon Lords were clearly not to be trusted since they all decide to attack if things didn't go their way. Adrian and Shoutmon looked right at the powerful Digimon with Adrian holding up his D-Arc, which was attached to his left arm like a watch.
"Do your worst," Shoutmon threatened.

"Your reactions interest me," GranDracmon said, as energy built up in the clutches of his lords and masters. "I had figured from the first moment of our discussion, I made my point clear. The Demon Lords wish to control this world. How they do so is of no consequence to them. You've decided to do things the hard way, and so I no longer have reason to test your words.
I must say, however, you've given me much insight into what the denizens of this world value. It shall be very pertinent information going forward. For that, you have my thanks. And please, do accept it! Not many have the chance to see the might of even one of my masters firsthand like this, and yet you've almost gotten a full set gathered." The energy crackling through the room reached a fever pitch, and soon the Demon Lords had finished charging their energies.
Much to their credit, Toki, Nyao, and Shoutmon had all stepped right up to the plate. Joining alongside them were Bagramon and Rasielmon, covering the group's flanks. They looked at each other, grit their teeth, and nodded, before turning to face the Demon Lords at one.
Then hell unleashed itself upon the group. Flame, frost, light, and shadow all intermingled into a small, shimmering spark, with clattered to the floor beneath the group. Bagramon rushed to dive onto the spark, but it was too late. As he approached, it erupted into a massive maelstrom. Shadow, light, flame, and frost all intertwined among each other, exploding with such force that they filled pretty much the entire room. The roar of the explosion swallowed up any other sound, and only silhouettes were visible through its eye-searing light. What was happening to the other members of the group was anyone's best guess.
When the maelstrom faded, Rasielmon and Bagramon were knocked out on the floor. However, the attentive diplomacy party would have one trick up their sleeves that their angel compatriots didn't: their suspicions. They would find that the Demon Lords' assault had only hurt as much as they believed it would hurt. Full-on belief in the potency of the Demon Lords would cause incredible damage, beyond that any Digimon would've been capable of unleashing on their own. Assurance that their gambit was a mere illusion would make the pain, too, nothing more than an illusion. Anywhere doubts that fell between these extremes would deal damage in proportion.
When vision returned to the group, GranDracmon snapped his fingers. The bats making up each of the Demon Lords' portals broke their formations at his command, scattering the portals and ensuring the "Demon Lords" would be stuck in the room with Toki, Katsura, and Adrian. Four of the five portals closed as requested, but one did not; it was Lucemon's portal that lingered, a disappointed click of the tongue echoing through the silence that had fallen over the Sanctum. "Such a craven. How disappointing," Lucemon said. "Find me if you wish. I have no further business with this pretender." With the last word definitively his, Lucemon's portal dispersed as well.
GranDracmon and the Demon Lords seemed content not to attack for now. Perhaps they were hoping this preemptive strike would put a pin in any further resistance.

Toki, to add a little more salt in the wound to GranDracmon's deception, brushed off the sleeve of his robe even though not a hint of dust was on it "Are you quite finished? It seems like Lucemon is quite irritated with how you approached this. Lucemon wanted to do this fairly, and here you are attacking a diplomatic envoy with no violent provocation. Something tells me that's not going to end well for you regardless of what happens here today."
He looked up at GranDracmon "I'm honestly disappointed it turned out this way. I thought we were making fine progress up until now. All you've done is hurt the good faith of your plans and you've just revealed that you just want to control the world, not guide it. Just listen to yourself. You pretend to speak for them but one of them just disapproved of your methods. You didn't even give the others a chance to say anything. If fighting is how this is to be settled, then I will gladly face you."
With a light tap of his finger against the floor, he calmly said two words "Topaz Temple." Pillars start to rise up in a circle around GranDracmon as they crackle with energy. Searing beams of light project from the crystals surrounding them and converge on GranDracmon "If you figured us weak because we would rather talk than fight, then allow me to enlighten you to a certain truth." he said as he floated slightly above the table "Kindness is not weakness. A desire for peace and harmony is not naivete. To care for everyone you lead is not the sign of a weak ruler. You have made a grave mistake this day, GranDracmon. I do not wish to continue fighting but if you insist on forcing my hand, I will." Everything Toki said was with a sense of eerie, perhaps chilling calm. If this spirit user felt fear, he certainly didn't show it.
The pillars would crack and shatter after the beams dissipated. Toki made no attempt to move at the moment, simply floating with his legs crossed, though his attention was squarely on the new foe. He paid no attention to the illusions around him.
------
Toki, realizing that the Demon Lords in front of them are mere illusions, simply stops focusing on them. He calls GranDracmon's bluff and attacks with Topaz Temple
Topaz Temple: With a gentle touch to the ground, pillars of Topaz begin to rise around an area of ZenCherubimon's choosing. They start to crackle with energy before beams of light connect the pillars together before shooting into the center in a spectacular display of light. Enemies caught in the area are damaged by any of the beams that they cross or otherwise come into contact with. (2 post cooldown)
