When Gryz began to talk back to Birdie, his body surging with electricity, Birdie simply raised her volume to try and talk over him, refusing to have her mad ramblings silenced by anyone or anything. Unica, on the other hand, heard everything Gryz was saying and was terrified. Birdie's life was "forfeit"? Though Unica had no idea what that meant, she knew it wasn't anything good. Destroy the digivice? Breaking her bones? Sealing her powers and making her human? That was just the sort of language Unica needed to hear to snap her out of her trance.
Everything Gryz was saying was bad. Horrible, even. The young girl began to tremble at the thought of something as awful as all that happening to her partner. Yes, she was mad at Birdie, but what Gryz was saying was unthinkable. The anger gave way to the knots in her chest and, as if on cue, the tears began to flow. She tried to tell the two Digimon to stop arguing, but between her quivering voice and their screaming, her words were easily drowned out. Maybe Tetsu saw this and decided to come up with an alternative solution in response to Unica's hysteria, or maybe he too ignored the young girl's pleas and proceeded to act on his own accord.
Either way, the boys hadn't consulted her about what they were planning, and that frustrated Unica more than anything else. These were supposed to be her friends, but they were making plans about what to do to her partner without her input -- not that she had any ideas as to what to do with Birdie anyway, but it still would've been nice. And just like that, Tetsu stepped forward, gave a short speech about how "this" would punish Birdie and help Unica, and flashed his digivice.
A portal tore open behind Birdie, causing the Biyomon to grow silent and glance over her shoulder at the snowy landscape on the other side. What were these two planning? Just as Birdie was about to turn her attention forward again, she felt a powerful blow strike her body, unseen claws grating against her chest as she stumbled backwards through the portal. The moment she was through, the portal snapped shut and disappeared. "Birdie!" Unica screamed, racing forward and pressing her hands against the side of the Trailmon where the portal had been.
She knew what portals were. It was the one feature of her own digivice that she knew how to use. Portals were how she first discovered the digital world and her primary means of transportation between both worlds. And so, she knew the portal wouldn't still be there on the side of the Trailmon, but desperation drove her to check anyway. Within a matter of second, the truth hit her like a bomshell. She was alone again. Birdie would definitely abandon her now. And what of the digivice? She didn't need it to get home, but it felt weird not to have it on her person. She felt naked without it.
When Tetsu began to speak, Unica froze and listened, keeping her hands against the Trailmon's side as she did. He said that she was allowed to hate them if she wanted, a comment that struck a nerve with the young girl for some reason. Though she didn't know exactly why, it was probably due in part to the fact that her friend was giving her permission to feel something she was feeling anyway. Anger. Spite. Hatred. Tetsu went on to explain that he was just trying to look out for Unica by severing a toxic influence from her life. A noble motive but one that led to extreme measure that the young girl didn't approve of.
The moment he uttered the words, "That's not what friend is," Unica whirled around. "You're not a friend!" she screamed, and without even thinking, she stepped forward and gave Tetsu a good, hard shove. It felt good. She felt bad that it felt so good. She did it again, slamming her palms against his chest to try and push him to the ground. "You're just a big meanie!" she wailed, glaring daggers at Tetsu as she stood her ground with fists clenched at her sides. It wouldn't have taken a genius to recognize Unica's current attitude and posture as being learned behavior from Birdie.

Tetsu does not even flinch. He actually just let Unica to do whatever, but he stood still. The shove is nothing compared to punch or anything that he's used to... But at the same time he's hurting. Once he felt the girl had enough, he looked at her.
"...Well, then? Does it feel good? You got pent up emotions right there, right? But do you even hear what she said?" Tetsu asked. Perhaps he too have a bottle up frustration toward the duo. One was recklessly hopeful, and another was vitriolically manipulative. There's no positive in there at all. It's a partnership that is not meant to be. Hell, it's much worse. It's pretty much case of someone doing kid slavery to it utmost.
"...Are you not angry? Are you seriously will let yourself used like that by her? I know that what we did were selfish. Yeah I didn't ask you of what you want... but have you ever consider a moment where she should learn to appreciate you more?"
Gryz simply looked at the two. Tetsu might be older, but... there are complicated feeling in him. He definitely not ready to see that sort of dynamic. It made him absolutely angry... angry at Birdie for her disgusting behavior, angry at Unica for letting that run rampart without giving up... his heart is bleeding at the little girl's ill mannered partnership. No, it's pretty much a flimsy bond that almost had no power at all.
"...What do you want to do after this?" Tetsu asked. "Even if you stopped us... even if you make us stop and not punish her... what would you do? She clearly revealed her true nature there. Even so, are you still treating her like she's your responsibility and she's responsible of you?"

Who knew if Tetsu's silence was the right decision. There was nothing "right" about the way Birdie treated Unica, the way Unica took the abuse, the way Unica's new friends acted without consolting her, or the way she was separated once again from Birdie. No one could tell her how to feel and no one could say what the correct course of action was for any of the individuals involved. But things were over and done with, and Unica was still reeling, perhaps in response to Tetsu's refusal to even try defending himself. Would opening his mouth make things worse or would it have added more fuel to the fire raging inside of Unica? He took her smacks without single word.
While Unica pulled back from her second hit, still glaring up at her Oniichan with spite-filled eyes, he began to ask if she felt better now. She didn't. She struck him for a third time, driving her right fist into his left peck. It was a weak blow by all accounts, but then against she didn't really want to hurt Tetsu. She didn't want to be like Birdie. But making him pay for what he did made her feel marginally better... Or did it? Something was stirring inside of her, an uncomfortable agony that filled Unica with adrenaline and worked her up into a frenzy. Her strikes were helping satiate the nervous energy she had, but it did nothing for her emotionally.
She continued to hit Tetsu's chest as he began to speak up and ask questions, but her attacks grew gradually weaker until she eventually gave up entirely, bringing the fists to her face and sobbing into her palms. Perhaps he was only trying to understand where the girl was coming from and why she was behaving the way she was, but Unica didn't see it that way. It felt like he was forcing her to think critically about what had just happened. She didn't want to accept the reality of the situation: that her partner hated her guts and her new friends only did what they did to protect her. She didn't want to believe it, but the alternative was just as bad.
Unica continued to sob, feeling utterly alone on the train's platform. Her tears felt different this time. Unlike all the other times when Birdie made Unica feel like she had done something wrong and her tears were filled with self-loathing, these tears were red hot, full of fear and anger. She hated feeling like this. Her wails expressed the pain she felt inside, even if her cries were unintelligible. In a fleeting thought, she wondered if this was how Birdie felt all the time and if this was the reason why she tended to lash out. However, as quickly as the thought entered her mind, it was gone again.
It took a few moments for Unica to begin calming down, but when she did, she glanced up at Tetsu with red, puffy eyes. There was still a dull, lingering tightness in her gut, but the wave of intense emotion had seemed to pass. It would take a while for her to truly process what happened here and what everyone's motives were, but it looked like she was beginning to get a handle on her emotions again. She had no words to say, but the sorrow in her eyes expressed just how sorry she was.

...It wasn't a good thing, honestly. Tetsu saw how Unica acted, and he had no idea what to do. He honestly hates it, and indeed, he has done thing selfishly. But his emotions kind of run rampart when he heard what the bird said. It's true that partnership was forced, but... why can't one understand that Unica is as much in this unwillingly as much as Birdie is?
Why can't one understand that lives are in danger?
...And why does he feel he's the one who's acting like a villain rather than one who acts like a hero to save Unica? It doesn't make sense the slightest, and it made him angry too... and the moment Unica looked at him finally, Tetsu... had no idea what to say other than finally kneeling down to her level again and pat her head.
"...I got two options for you. One, you forget all this experience. Digital World is a scary place. There are dangers everywhere.... and as much as there are dangers, there are places where you can find new friends and new bonds... but you need to survive... Birdie definitely isn't excited to protect you, therefore this place will be harsh to you... If you forget it all, and return to your normal life, this probably going to be easy way out for you.
...But option number two is for you to... mature faster. You might be seen weirdly by many... but me and Gryz will help you on that. It's basically you have to expand your capabilities... to make Birdie listen to you by showing that you're capable. It's the hard way, and trust me, you might going to cry louder than ever compared to when Birdie is with you.. but we swear we'll help how to fix that for you...
Third options and so on... depends on what you want to do. As you seen now... Birdie cannot keep her temper down, she won't listen to anyone... it can cause you guys got tangled in trouble and she won't even admit that the wrongdoing is on her. She learned, but then she showed her true color... if she was heard by someone more ruthless than me, it'll be her end... Do you understand?"

Truth be told, Unica wanted nothing more than to go home, tell her parents everything that happened, and be comforted by them. She was still so confused and upset and even angry, though the rage she had experience moments prior was much worse than what she felt now. As much as her Oniichan and Gryz were doing for her, Unica still didn't feel completely at ease around them. After all, she had only met them an hour or so ago. As much as her new friends said or did, nothing could compare to the loving relationship she had with her mother. Perhaps this varying level of comfort was part of the reason why Unica felt so betrayed by Tetsu when he exiled Birdie. Unica had known Birdie for months. She had gotten used to the bird's foul language. Tetsu, although a kinder individual overall, was still a stranger by most accounts.
But she couldn't say that, could she? She wasn't even entirely sure why she felt the way she did, she just knew that she wanted her parents. At the same time, Tetsu claimed that if she left the digital world now then she'd forget all about this experience, which didn't sound very good either. It was true that she didn't want to think about what happened, but it was very important for her to remember what had transpired between Birdie and Tetsu. Tetsu taught her that she deserved to be happy, even if that meant standing her ground or doing things that she didn't feel very comfortable doing. Birdie revealed her true colors, something Unica had been adamantly denying up until now. She didn't want to forget these lessons... but she also didn't want to acknowledge them right now either. She just wanted to be held and told everything would be okay; what more, she wanted her mom to be the one to do it.
The thing that ultimately caused Unica to make up her mind was when Tetsu said that if Birdie's rantings had been overheard by someone more ruthless then she would've been "ended" on the spot. Unica had heard such language during her time at the Spartan Training Grounds, so she knew what he meant. "Ended" meant "killed." That was hard to hear, even if it was true. Unica whimpered but bit back the urge to cry. She hiccuped once as she opened her mouth to speak, "I don't want to forget." She paused a moment as she inhaled a shaky breath. "Birdie is mean," she said, as though doing so would prove that she learned a valuable lesson here, even if she knew this fact long before Tetsu entered the picture. "I just want my mommy. I wanna go home," she stated, her bottom lip quivering a few stay tears streaking down her cheeks at seemingly random intervals.

Going home it is...? Yet at the same time, not willing to forget? "Do you intend to return to Digital World then, eventually?" Tetsu asked. Yet, that's not important. He know there are more pressing matter. "I understand, I'll walk you home, alright?" Tetsu gently wiped the little girl's tears again. There are too many things that seems to be... very bad for how she got her first adventure. There are no guarantee that she'll even get to higher level with how Birdie is... but... one thing for sure, Unica is strong.
Tetsu offered his hand for the girl to hold. Of course if she doesn't want to, that's fine. Gryz too has devolved, and now they're heading toward a Trailmon that leads to real world. When they arrived in the real world, he would ask about her address, walking her to what her home would be, even if it entails calling a taxi for doing so, or riding another train. He know what he did are rather unforgivable in her eyes, but it's not like he's going to just let her go like that. Even if he have to face wrath of her parents then so be it.
...It's going to be a long day though.

In response to Unica's confession, Tetsu posed a question: "Do you intend to return to the digital world then... eventually?" Unica wasn't sure of the answer. She had so many friends here, and this world was full of such amazing things, and even though a sizable number of the memories she had made in the digital world were bad ones, she could never forget the handful of good ones. Right now, she didn't want to be in this world, but who was to say that she never wanted to return again? Would this bad experience prevent her from ever coming back and pursuing the destiny that fate had laid out for her in the digital world? It was hard to see that far ahead, but it was a valuable question to consider nevertheless. On that note, even if she wanted to, how would she even be able to return without a digivice?
"I don't know," Unica admitted solemnly. She appeared to be an empty vessel of who she once was, though this fact may have been overlooked by her present company. Most of Tetsu and Gryz' interactions with Unica involved her crying, so her melancholy attitude could have just been chocked up to her still being upset rather than confused about her own feelings. As much evidence she had that Birdie didn't care about her and that things would've been much better if she accepted that Birdie was a bad Digimon, Unica still couldn't help wondering if her partner was alright. The panicked, surprised, and pained look Birdie had on her face when she was pushed into the portal was burned into Unica's mind, and something about it made her feel bad.
Her Oniichan said he understood, but how could he? It was easy being an outsider looking in, but how could he understand having an unexplainable connection to someone but still knowing they're no good for you? Maybe he did have some personal experience with such a relationship, but Unica felt like she was alone in this. She wasn't angry with Tetsu's sympathy; in fact, she was grateful for it. If he had asked her to explain herself or if he told her that "I don't know" wasn't a valid response then things would've certainly been different. But Tetsu was kind and patient, and that's really all she wanted. Why couldn't Birdie be more like him? When Unica said she didn't know something, why couldn't Birdie say that it was okay instead of losing her temper and calling the young girl names? There was just no winning with her.
Moments later, Tetsu offered to escort Unica home, gently wiping away the tears lingering on her cheeks as he did, and held out his hand for Unica to take. She did so with little to no hesitation. He was her rock right now, her stabilizer until she got home safely. She had to put her trust in him, not that it was a difficult thing to do. He had proven himself to be a trusted friend on more than one occasion, even if his ultimate decision regarding Birdie was a hard pill for Unica to swallow. She knew, deep down, that it was the right decision.
All three companions made there way onto one of the Trailmon leading to the human world. Usually, Unica was able to make small talk with those on the train to help pass time, but she was exceptionally quiet as she tried to process everything that had happened. The boys respected her decision not to speak, so any and all communication that occurred during the ride happened between the two of them and no one else. Unica, meanwhile, keep her eyes on the red backpack which she held close to her chest. She pictured her partner's face over and over again in her head, twisted in betrayal and agony as the pink-and-blue bird Biyomon fell backwards. She also thought of the Impmon's words, that the fight between him and Birdie was caused by a misunderstanding. Is that why Unica and Birdie always fought? Because there was a misunderstanding between them?
As the party arrived in the human world, Unica glanced up and watched the world speed by outside the window directly across from her. Something about returning to this familiar place brought some life back into her. She sat up straighter, her eyes widened and sparkled with joy, and the corners of her lips turned up ever so slightly into a faint resemblance of a smile. Unica was the first to get off Trailmon, though she fell behind her friends as they led the way into the main area of the terminal and passed by a series of gates separating the mechanical trains from the living, breathing digital ones. When asked where she lived, Unica spouted off her address. It was an apartment located in the Great Shibuya region, a fact that may have alerted Tetsu to the poor financial situation of Unica's family.
If they chose to walk the whole way, it could've taken them anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour, depending on their speed. The best solution was to take a taxi, bus, or train a bit farther. Unica was on top of it. "I know the way!" she exclaimed, having gotten a little of her pep back. This was something she felt in control of. No one could yell at her about this, and there was no confusion about it. And, worst case, if something did go wrong, she had both of her parents' emergency contact information in her backpack. Within a matter of minutes, she'd be able to contact her mommy or daddy if she messed up. Feeling confident in her abilities, Unica led the way. She knew exactly where to go, who to talk to, and which train to wait for. Before long, the three were on a train headed for a station in the Greater Shibuya region.

"That is fair," Tetsu answered to what Unica replied to his posed question. "It's alright to take your time in answering it. You don't need to answer right away on that. There's nothing wrong in not knowing what to do after such a shocking event... there's nothing wrong in changing your answer midway when it comes to something this hard. Take it at your pace, it's alright."
Tetsu felt like he's talking to himself... Him who wasn't sure what to do when he first came to Shibuya, and now he's obviously sure of what he wanted to do in life. There are too many things to shell himself from. it's just that he's not sure if he should return home, or invest in Digiport... either way, he too decided to think about it for later. He pat her head, just to make sure she knows that he doesn't mind her unsureness.
On the trains, neither the boy talked much either. Tetsu merely making sure that Unica is watched properly, and Gryz mostly silent. Perhaps from guilt, perhaps still from anger of what the bird showed to his human partner. Either way, the bear would return to Tetsu's digivice the moment they entered real world.
It's easier that way after all.
Thankfully, it's seem Unica is more peppy in real world. Now if only there is way to not make her eyes so puffy... that'd be nice. Either way, Tetsu smiled and let the younger girl lead him. This is better, for her confidence, and for her to build up assertiveness. "Coming coming~" Tetsu answered to her giddiness.
Still, that... place... Greater Shibuya? He have heard some bad things... He know that it's a poor housing district but gee...
Tetsu never the type that knows about poverty. He knows a lot of thing about hard work, and struggle, but poverty is never in his mind. In fact, farmers are quite well off, and knowing how much livestocks and farmfield they have, it's enough to say that they're almost self sustaining, and the money mostly goes to saving instead...
"...Say Unica, how's your life?" Tetsu asked.

Tetsu's support meant so much to Unica. Unfortunately, she didn't exactly know how express her appreciation, and she wasn't exactly in the mood to talk about how she was feeling anyway. Perhaps this was part of the reason why she gave a puzzled look in response to his question about how her life was. What kind of inquiry was that? Unica wasn't sure what sort of answers would suffice, for that wasn't a question she received very often. Did he want to know how she was feeling? Did he want to know about her parents? Did he want to know about what she did for fun? What exactly was her life anyway? How could she condense everything her life was into a couple words?
"Ummm..." she began, cocking her head and stroking her chin in an exaggerate manner. She'd seen her parents do this a few time before when they were really stumped about a question. "I wake up, and mommy makes waffles, and we go to school and do my homework-- I know how to count to a-hundred!" she rambled, doing her best to answer Tetsu's fairly broad, open-ended question. "Do you want to see?" she asked, seeming pretty eager to share her number knowledge with her friend, but not eager enough to start counting without waiting for his response. At about this time, Unica and Tetsu were on the next train, headed from Central Shibuya to Greater Shibuya.
The transition from one region to another was gradual. Some buildings on the outside fringes of Central Shibuya were spray-painted or abandoned, but they were few and far between. After a short while, such sights became more and more prominent. There were definitely sections of Greater Shibuya that looked more deserted, shady, and dangerous than others, but there were still areas that looked like decent places to live. While some of the complexes had boarded up windows, holes in the roofs, and half-collapsed walls, others looked better maintained. After the move from the United States, Unica's parents didn't have much money to their name and so they settled for what they could get.

It's not like the boy would demand her thanks anyway. If anything, he's still worried about her feeling at the moment. He guessed his question is a bit too broad... so let's change that somehow... but before he corrected her, he listened to her. It's heartwarming to hear what's her daily schedules are. "Sure, go count to hundred." After that, however, he had to correct her.
"...So, what I mean is... Do you feel anything is missing? Like, are you happy with where you live? Got in any troubles with bad people recently?"
God know if the little girl understood what he meant with that, but he honestly hope that frankness was enough for her to answer. Last thing he need to know is that she somehow got in problem because of money.
...And God, he's right. What in manner of living condition is this? Tetsu only can stare, nearly slack jawed in shock at how bad the living condition is. What caused such a thing? How can a girl this sweet lives in such poverty struck place like this? Honestly, as much as he wanted to help, he can't do much. An adult won't take a help from a kid, or maybe they will, and that's when they'll show ugly colors that he oh so despise...
...But even then, he wanted to help.
"......Unica, do you eat enough?" Tetsu asked.

When Tetsu encouraged Unica to count to one-hundred, she was more than happy to oblige. The first twenty numbers or so were listed with ease, but as she got into the higher numbers, she slowed down and occasionally switched to English as she tried to recall what the number was in Japanese. She got all the way to fifty before pausing and sighing. It wasn't as fun as she thought it would be. To avoid the monotony of reciting the latter half, she decided to count by tens instead. She finished by hurriedly listing off fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety, and one-hundred, as though naming them quickly would trick Tetsu into thinking that she had said all the numbers in between. She blushed a little and giggled sheepishly, all the while grabbing the edge of her dress and gently kicking her feet.
The conversation slowly took a turn as Tetsu asked if Unica felt like she was missing anything. The obvious answer was yes, she did feel like she was missing something -- namely, her digivice and her partner. However, before she could voice her thoughts, he asked if she was happy where she lived and if she had any trouble with bad people. That was an easy question to answer, as one person in particular entered her mind. "Mister Sugaware yells at his puppy and it scares me," she explained, not looking too bothered by what she was saying. It seemed like this Mister Sugaware only ever yelled at his dog, but he never did anything to really make Unica feel like she was in danger.
"Umm..." she began, trying to think of any other instances in which she was upset about her living situation. "Oh!" she exclaimed suddenly, "There was one time, a bug was in my bed! It was gross! Daddy killed it with his shoe." It wasn't uncommon for bugs to navigate their way inside people's houses, but the question was whether Unica and her family had a real pest infestation. If they did, that could've meant that their apartment had holes and cracks that they were too impoverished to repair. However, since Unica only mentioned that single encounter with a bug, rather than complaining about multiple bugs in her house, that didn't seem to be the case.
Tetsu's follow-up question about whether she ate enough was odd to Unica. She didn't realize what he was implying. "Yep!" she replied. In an instant, she opened up her backpack and turned it so that Tetsu could see the contents inside. The bag was almost completely full of junk food: chips, crackers, cookies, and a couple poorly made sandwiches in plastic baggies. It looked like Unica had been prepared to spend a couple days in the digital world before everything transpired as it did. If Unica had this much food with her then that answered two questions. One, Unica and her family did have enough money for food and other essentials, and two, her parents weren't very stringent about food because Unica was able to sneak away with a backpack full of it. "Here," Unica said as she pulled out a small bag of gummy candies, "You gotta share with Grizzly, okay?"

That trick was cute, but no dice. Tetsu gently pat Unica's head "Try harder next time, alright? You're doing great back then, but don't trick people like that~! It's fine to take shortcuts at times, but studying isn't something that you should take a shortcut to! Because studying is important, alright?"
Well... looks like there are no... significant danger posed toward his new little friend, so that's good to hear... although honestly the housing condition felt rather concerning... Should he just ask around for some possible, better housing? Then again if she's happy who is he to meddle with that?
Either way, he noted several of her problems. The insect might be a roach? In that case, it might be just a normal apartment after all. If it's just once, well... now and then roaches appears in apartment everywhere. So he doesn't think it's that much of an issue...
And looks like his worries are quite unfounded after all? She got quite a lot of snacks, but... he wondered if he should tell her to eat less snacks.
"I'll share with him later. Well then, do you want me to walk you to your apartment or do you want to do that yourself?"

Unica giggled again when Tetsu took the gummy candies and promised to share with his Digimon partner later. At about that time, the train had pulled into the station and people were beginning to file their way outside. Unica zipped up her bag and was prepared to hop off the seat when Tetsu's question made her pause a moment to consider it. He wanted to know if she would've preferred for him to walk with her or for her walk home by herself. The truth was that she didn't care. On one hand, she enjoyed the time she spent with Tetsu. But on the other hand, she didn't want him to think that she wasn't capable of making the trip by herself. Because she was! She was a big girl, after all! She shrugged to emphasize this point. "I dunno," she said with a smile, doing her best and failing to convey how she really felt. They didn't have much time to talk about it, though, as the doors would be closing soon.

Hmmm, well... in that case...
"How about I accompany you midway then?" Tetsu offered. After all, he can't really get himself to calm down when he already got this far. Once he's sure that she's arrived to her place, it would be much better for his mental state... sorta! Tetsu offered his hand for Unica to take. He hoped for her to guide him instead, not the reverse. After all, she's the one who knows the way.
He wanted to bring up the moment about Birdie, but considering how... inappropriate it is... He guess it's better for him to just let it flow naturally and avoid that sort of topic, huh.
"By the way," Tetsu would start. "Do you want to hang out sometimes?"

When Tetsu offered to walk her halfway home, Unica's smile grew and she nodded vigorously, her pale blonde hair getting messed up as a result. With a giggle, she stopped nodding and peered at her friend through the wall of disheveled hair that hung down in front of her face. The train doors gave a couple of dings, indicating that it would soon pull away from the station, and Unica gasped in surprise as she hurriedly pulled the hair out of her face and jumped down from the seat. Still holding onto her backpack with one hand, Unica motioned for Tetsu to follow with the other, all the while hollering, "Hurry up!" She raced to the doors and leaped off the train, landing on the platform with a dual-footed stomp.
The jump was unnecessary, someone could've easy stepped from the train to the platform without a problem, but it was just the sort of over-the-top, much-too-energetic behavior one might have expected of a child who was eager to get somewhere. And Unica was eager. She wanted to get home as soon as possible and she was excited about walking some of the way with Tetsu. Oh, yeah! Tetsu! Unica turned around to make sure her friend had successfully managed to get off the train. He had. Unica breathed a sigh of relief. "I thought you got stuck," she said while slipping her backpack over her shoulders.
"I was stuck one time and I got so scared that I started crying. A nice old man helped me and called my mommy," she explained as she started leading the way. "He was really old," she said, finding it important for Tetsu to know just how elderly this unnamed man was. "His face was like this..." Unica's face twisted as though she'd just eaten something incredibly sour. Her eyes shut tight, her lips pursed together, and a her chubby cheeks lifted as she scrunched her nose. With her face still contorted, she said, "And he talked like this." Her voice was high-pitched, hoarse, and unsteady, a humorous depiction of what the helpful man sounded like.
As the children continued on their way and the conversation about the old man came to an end, Tetsu asked if Unica would be willing to hang out again sometime. This seemed like a strange question for someone to ask, Unica thought, but the idea of spending more time with Tetsu made her incredibly happy. "Yes! Yes! Yes!" she chimed, stopping in the middle of the road and turning to face him with her entire body. "We could play games and eat junk food and Grizzly could play too!" she added excitedly, her blue eyes seeming to sparkle with all the wonderful possibilities. Any residual frustration or disappointment Unica might have felt regarding Tetsu's decision to banish Birdie appeared to have either been forgotten or forgiven, replaced instead with love and admiration.
