Temple of the Ancients [S-RANK/MISSION]

Toki marveled at the entrance to the temple and the intricacies of it all "Wow, this is incredible...it's no wonder there's an interest in discovering this place's secrets. Though...it's no surprise that the place is probably extremely dangerous, too." he said as the group went on ahead into the temple.
As they marched further into this first chamber, it was clear that there was a lot of options for them to consider. Toki looked over the hieroglyphs for a moment, taking care not to touch anything, and steered far away from the clearly suspicious helmet as he looked over the different notes next to the hallways. "Well let's see. I want to say the hasty exclamation point means that...it could possibly mean Anubismon is past this point. So let's not go over there yet. We could go either left or right, see what we can discover down those halls before we attempt to do anything else with this room." He suggested.
The oppressive atmosphere of the room wasn't lost on him "Though I say we make a decision soon. How about we try the left hallway first and come back to the right hall afterwards? Something tells me waiting around too long won't be good for anyone..."
He nodded at Eris' assessment "It would make sense that the helmet and the center hallway are correlated in some way given the notes left behind. Let's take care not to bump or otherwise touch the helmet before we know what exactly we're doing."
He looked over to Yuuki when he began to scan the helmet "Let us know what you figure out. Hopefully there's something we can learn from a scan..." he said as he stood next to the left hallway. "Any information we can possibly get will help us figure out what to do when we inevitably run into Anubismon."

The longer that they stayed in this mask's presence the more intense that unpleasant feeling seemed to try to impose onto the group. But the little necklaces that the petermon made warded off the most of it much to it's frustration. The suggestion that Eris had could of been right but without checking on the scout there was no real way of knowing properly.
Yuuki on the other hand did something rather smart, scanning the mask to find out what it was about. The mask didn't read off as a cursed item of any sort but more closely resembled a digimon than anything else. It's reading was that of an anubismon, an ancient one at that. But the signal in front of them also read further back and far away. The desire to be worn was so that it could impose its will on whom-ever decided to wear it.
The power it would grant was immense of course, nothing came with a price so big without giving a boon. But were a lesser mon to don this it could create quite a problem!
In terms of Hikaru's ability he'd distinctly notice the presence of something underneath them. Something living, massive and lethargic, as though it had been waiting for a very long time. But it also was constantly moving, like one mass of being. It seemed to focus underneath each of the individuals in some way or another. The stronger someone was, the more of a focus it had on them...
At toki's queries of taking the left hallway and then the right there would be a moment that an intense atmosphere change. Not of anger or of anything of the sort, but of fear of all things! Like someone had heard the idea and was trying to warn them away from it in fear of what would happen to those here. The center most hallway once addressed however... would of course yield a feeling of ease from this atmosphere change.
The anubismon's mask opened up slightly and out of it hissed a somewhat ancient dialect of digital speak. It sounded strange, something like what you'd expect if someone tried really hard to translate ancient Egyptian a thousand times in a computer then wrote up their own language afterwards. It'd repeat several times over before closing it's mouth one last time, the jaw locking firmly in place.
Yuuki's scan has yielded two separate scans. -That the mask in front of it is classified as a digimon at mega level, but it's inert and unable to move without becoming attached to a host. -The scan that has connected to the core further in has yielded something of super mega class at least. Wether or not it's because of multiple mons or simply a single powerful one has yet to be seen. -The atmosphere has changed based on the decisions of the group. -No traps have been sprung, in fact any that would of been seemed to be disabled judging from the atmosphere! -If hikaru is able to gauge the strength of mon's from their signal strength alone he'd recognize that this one is mostly spread out. Likely to be a super mega in grand total but spread about it's far weaker. Anubismon Opinion: +3 [3/100]

Hm, interesting. Yuuki looked at the D-Nexus and scrolled the result... whoa talk about complicated. "Alright you guys, I'll request all of your attention to me at the moment, because I'm not sure if I can explain this simple enough... so... basically.... these thing, this mask thing? It's living. I guess you can say that it leads to our target. The reading goes further away, deeper inside."
....And it also talk apparently. Yuuki backed off slightly. The hell was that? "I cannot speak Ancient Egyptian. I don't think Hikaru have that installed within his database either.... Either way... this guy here? It's Ultimate class I guess... the one further in apparently registered as Super Ultimate class at least, so disrespecting it is out of question... By the way, whether it's a collective will or something else I have no idea. If you... want to try to wear it, we might get some info out of it, but I really don't want to touch it? No offense. I like me being in control of my own body, thank you."
...And the feeling shift...
"...Something tells me that they doesn't want us to go to any of these two sides... and want us to go to the center. If I were to act as a guest I would certainly follow what the owner of the place want me to... which is the center. Egyptians always hate tomb raiders... and honestly, as much as my curiosity wanted to explore the rest... I feel it's better to just follow the feeling of our host."
...Speaking of which, Hikaru decided to speak up now. "...By the way, we're under surveillance. I have no idea whether they have same ability as me, or it's simply because this is their domain... but they seem to be focusing on you based on how strong you are... So enough to say I'm getting nervous, hah hah..."
"Anything else?"
"These mass of consciousness are spread around... in total it's Super Ultimate strength. but spread they're far weaker. Would you say that these are the army of the Anubimon?"
Yuuki shrugged. "We'll get there when it's time to get there. For the moment, should we rectify our plan and go to the center, or just approach other places first?"

There was a change in the air. It seemed more...peaceful? At the very least the group didn't appear to be in danger for the moment. As he listened to Yuuki's explanation, Toki gazed at the mask for a moment and scratched at his chin "There's something extremely worrying about all of this. It's almost as if the master of the pyramid...isn't the master at all. Are they being held here against their will by some kind of ancient curse or prison? If so...why? Still...let's not touch that mask. Those trapped could potentially be desperate for escape, no matter what happens to those around them. I'd hope that our host was more gracious than that, though." He said.
"A mass of consciousness? Do they live here? Are they even here of their own free will?" The very thought of Digimon being trapped down here against their will chilled Toki to his very core. He looked to the mask "If you're one of those trapped, we'll figure out a way to get you out of here, as long as you promise not to cause any trouble. Word of advice, using an oppressive aura to try and urge people to wear a mask out in the open...probably not the best way to earn trust, okay?" He gave the mask a little smile despite his lecturing.
He walked over to the central hallway. The aura here seemed...calm. There was an intense feeling of fear from the other two hallways, but why? "Well I'm not one to take things that still belong to people. Let's be polite and move on. Seems like our host is trying to keep us safe...whoever they are. Question is, however...is whether or not it's an act. No offense!" He called out to the area around him. He gave a reassuring smile to Hikaru "I'll admit I'm getting a little nervous, myself, but I have a feeling there are Digimon that need help here, so I'm going to push forward regardless." He looked down at the floor and frowned slightly, wondering what was following them and why...
The barrage of sound from the mask was unnerving and indecipherable to him. He took out his D-Tector and placed it gently to his chest, as if asking the spirit within if such an ancient language had any meaning to them. If there was anything to be gleaned from that noise, he'd want to figure it out before making any complete judgments. It was likely safer than putting on the mask directly. Still, he stood by the central hall. "I vote once we figure out all we can, we move down the central hall."

"If the Mister Anubismon-Sir is nice enough to show us the way then I think we should follow it's advise." Eris chirped not really having much to add, but nodding along in agreement with her fellows as she moved to trot towards the middle door only to pause. Scampering back to place her front paws on the pedestal the little Gigimon propped herself up enough to reach eye level with the mask, but did not reach out to touch it.
"Hello sir Mask Sir. We will try not to cause you any trouble if we can. My name is Eris and this is Toki, and Yuuki, and Hikaru. Thank you for hosting us Mister Anubismon-Sir!" The little digimon exclaimed giving the mask a little wave before she hopped back down and headed back to the others to make their way down the center hallway.

The mask didn't really respond to the prodding questions or statements that were spoken around it. It had said it's piece and the group would follow their own whims. It didn't care if it was worn or not, it didn't mind it either way. It'd just make a few things easier it felt, but it wouldn't force itself on anyone here. The suggestion was a mere hope that it'd be able to properly communicate with these ones but with the quick decision to not wear it the mask seemed to grow inert again.
However hikaru would quickly feel that massive presence below them pull back further into the temple itself. As though beckoning them to come forward towards the 'master' of the place. Honestly when it came down to it the group still had the choice of taking, wearing or using the mask in some fashion or another.
The spirit however would absolutely know of the language, perhaps not the nitty gritty details of it. But a large amount of the information that the anubis mask passed out would go untranslated. One of the primary warnings that it had pushed forward was one of the few things Toki's spirit would gleam from the mess.
Keep in the light.
Whatever that meant would have to hopefully be enough for the group to go off of in some fashion or another. Though toki would find that the mask's 'demanding' pull of someone to put him on simply vanished after a few moments.
Once the group was in accord however, the next room would yawn open to them as easily as this one. The warning of the mask still hanging in the air like a sour note. This next room was a lot larger than the entry 'warning' room. A large array of pillars, lit torches and a few bits of writing on the walls. Something odd however was the fact that none of the torches seemed to be casting light. The center most section of the walkway was the only thing to have it's own 'natural' lighting. The murals on the walls were very pointed and interesting surely but the rays of light didn't extend to there.
This room was a simple straight shot down to the next if the group wished, if not there was ample enough information to be gleamed from the faint murals on the walls. Even if one was to shine a light to them, the 'artificial' light wouldn't penetrate whatever darkness that was being held back.
At the end of the large hallway, nearest the door stood two statues. Both inert, lifeless and much like the mask before them made out of some strange material. However unlike the mask they were actively looking around, aware but unaware of the group. It seemed as though they were the guardians of this very room!

The mask didn't seem overtly malevolent. Strange, unsettling maybe, but malevolent was probably a stretch. He looked towards the hall they were going to explore next, then back at the mask. "I really hope I don't regret this." He muttered as he picked up the mask and carried it with him. "Maybe me being a spirit user will give me...I don't know, some kind of resistance to being fully controlled. I'll uh...just hold onto it for now though." he said.
Now that it was settled, he pressed on ahead of the group "So the reason I decided to take our friend here along for the ride is because it said something interesting. It said to keep in the light. I'm not sure what that means, but I don't think the mask means us any harm." He said as they entered the strange room where the laws of logic are completely thrown out the window. Parts of the room were lit, others were not and no amount of artificial light would illuminate the darkened portions. He tilted his head slightly "Well I think this is what the mask meant...take care not to step in the shadows."
The murals were very tempting to investigate, but given their location, attempting to do so might be a very bad idea. He wasn't even sure if there was anything worth investigating in this room, save for the two statues. The design was familiar...he lifted the mask up in both hands and held it up to the statues, wondering if that would trigger some kind of reaction "Here's hoping this either does something...or there's nothing to do in this room. Please don't make me put this thing on yet..." This made him miss the simplicity of the temple where he earned his Antylamon spirit. Well, simple...aside from the ultimate level Antylamon trying to kill him. Good times.

So they're taking the mask. "Akiyama-san, I'm only voicing my opinion, but I think it's best if you make sure to carry the mask in such a way that prevented it from being damaged or dirtied... I don't think it's best to put it inside the infini-store either, because while it may be an object, it's still a spiritual object of utmost importance," Yuuki commented.
"Speaking of which... whoever has been waiting for us down here... seem to retreated further inside the place... it's almost as if they're asking us to go further, you see..." Hikaru quipped.
The moment they entered the next room, Yuuki already feeling like it's good that each of the team seem to have their own abilities. Toki with his spirits, he could provide the scouting, and Eris provides the heart. He turned on option to activate the D-Nexus' light to see if it can light the darkness but... Hmmm, it doesn't pierce through
Yuuki, in disappointment, turned off the lights.
"I would try to light the torches up there," Hikaru commented "but I don't think that is wise."
"True, your fire move is... Flame of Purgatory, was it?"
Either way, the next room... guardians?
"Should we beckon?" Yuuki asked toward the rest. "If we pass through just like that, I feel it'll treat us as trespasser... We're here to do our parts as archaeologist, not as tresspasser."
"I think we should do that. Remember to kneel, or show great respect," Hikaru commented. He looked at the rest, hoping to hear their pieces.

Eris frowned as Toki took the mask. The little Gigimon fidgeting in place as she glanced worriedly between the object and the spirit user in question clearly not comfortable with this sudden change, but unwilling to admit it aloud. Instead she simply followed the group through the halls. Pausing at the sight of the statues to stare at them in aw. Before she trotted right up to them, sitting down in front of them and chirping a bright, "Hello! I'm Eris!" at the statues. Even cocking her little head up at them as her tail beat lightly against the floor stirring a small cloud of dust, before she asked,
"Are you guarding the next room? May I go in? How come you're looking around like that? Do your heads swivel every which way? Can you see through walls?" The little In-training inquired, peppering them with what seemed like an endless array of questions.

The mask wouldn't really respond to being picked up in a negative fashion. It chittered in that language again but eventually fell silent. There was quite a few things that it said regarding the area they were in, but it was a little too fast for everything to be made out well. Some variants of stepping and what the murals were about.
At being held up to the statues, they would share a look with one another. Looking somewhat out of sorts considering. They'd retort with a brief bit of that language in which the mask would chitter back at them.
This would go on for quite a bit, as though they were voicing concerns and the mask was re-assuring them. The guards didn't seem to really react to eris' questions past raising rocky brows. After one string of a rather commanding tone from the mask well...
They'd hop down from their pedestals, looking somewhat disgruntled. Putting their weapons to either side the'd step forward to slowly push open the massive doors to the next area. The slow grinding of the stone against the floor indicated they didn't move all too often. It was a slow arduious process that took a good five or so minutes of the statues straining to push the door open.
The mask would chitter again, something short and sweet that almost was like that of thanks. The two guardians seemed to almost grumble in response before climbing back onto their pedestals, bringing up the polearms that they had before returning to their sentry duty.
The next room was open for the group and it was far more massive than anything before. So much so that it would likely engulf the exterior of the temple if it was compared in size. Something most certainly was at work here in keeping this place stable enough to have a room like this. Even the light shone from the walls didn't seem to reach into the middle but thankfully if tested they darkness here would act as though normally...
Though this brought a good question of why this room was so big and what was further in? The mask had fallen silent again and like before there seemed to be an unspoken challenge here. If needed the torches on the walls could be taken from their mooring without much fuss and on the ground...
Well the ground didn't match up with the rest of the temple, in fact if one was familiar with some of the more sci-fi areas of the digital world they'd recognize something akin to old terminus' higher levels where the technology was newer. More crisp. More cut. More angled. The small grooves on the floor leading forward into the darkness itself.

Toki tilted his head curiously at the exchange between the mask and the sentries. From what he could gather, the mask had authority of aspects of this temple, if not total authority...was Anubismon actually communicating from this mask or perhaps an ally of theirs? Either way, Toki bowed his head politely to the statues "Well, looks like that's settled!" He looked down at the mask for a moment "Thank you for helping us." He said, wanting to acknowledge this entity's efforts.
The way forward was open, but before he moved on he would pause and address the others "Everyone's okay, right?" He looked at Eris, then at the mask. Her apprehension didn't go unnoticed, but hopefully it didn't paint him in a negative light to her...that's the last thing he wanted. "It doesn't seem like there's anything for us in this room, so let's press onward."
He spoke to Yuuki while during the trip to the next room once they started moving "Don't worry, I'll take care with it. There's someone either inhabiting it or communicating from it so if I let it get damaged it's like I'm hurting them...and I want to avoid that at all costs." He said with a friendly smile as he held the mask close, still keeping its eyes facing forward.
The next room was awe-inspiring just from the scope of it. "How in the world...?" He muttered under his breath as he wondered if he could even see the end of the room. The sound of his footsteps against the more refined floor caught his attention as he looked down. "The floor here seems more...refined down here. These are starting to look less like desert ruins and more like what you would find in the abandoned parts of Old Terminus." He had been to an Old Terminus ruin long ago, and this sort of thing stuck out to him.
"Yuuki, could you take a torch and follow close? I think these grooves on the floor lead to where we're supposed to be going. Though...we'll probably find something out as we walk in this room. There's got to be something here." He said as he waited for everyone to be ready.
He figured with no obvious dangers at the moment he would take the time to speak with his comrades "This whole place is just getting more and more incredible, isn't it? I wish Aylin was here. She'd adore figuring out how everything here worked and related to everything." He wished he had more to say, but couldn't think of much at the moment.

Well, being polite kind of paid it off isn't it? Toki did the right move to bring that mask here apparently. Yuuki nodded in appreciation and gratefulness to his teammate. Still, what he doesn't expect is probably how the mask chittered as they passed through the places. Question is, what are they're talking of? It's at time like this is where Yuuki got frustrated because he just ITCHING to know what they're talking about.
The gate opened... yeah, opened. Wow, talk about easy. He wondered if the previous scouts just actually messed too much with the structure, and they got cursed instead because of that? Meanwhile, they're being polite, and actually trying to get to the bottom of this rather than acting like some graverobbers.
"OK, well... I'm definitely OK, still doing good," the brunet answered. As told by Toki, he took one of the torch and walked close.
"Interesting design," Yuuki would comment, trying to scan the flooring and comparing it to the wall, material wise, and any sort of info that came with it with his D-Nexus. "There was theory that Alien is involved in Egypt's pyramid building, like... how can they get that precise and intricately built? No one really knows, but... this one? It honestly looks like some gateway to past civilization, one that exceeding current ones.
Not sure if it's any more better than Terminus' though. But I'm definitely darn interested... Our city of Ys is kiiind of like this too... Sorta.."

The party's venture into this place had been mostly peaceful, surprisingly so the danger for the scout seemed paltry in comparison to what his current state was. They had been smart, avoiding the dangers of this place with ease. Being respectful, slow and courteous was paying off easily. But the time for that was slowly coming to an end.
A gentle rumble is where it started, the entire room shifting and shaking in small sections. Small dots of lights started to race across those lines on the floor. Making their way towards the center of the room. The room itself was massive beyond compare but it wasn't just the floor that these lights were on and traveling about.
The cieling. The walls. Even the air itself seemed charged with the fact. Slowly but surely the room slowly lit up with the help of this pale blue trail of lights, the torch that yuuki was holding seeming un-needed for all of but a moment as these lights raced around them.
The rumbling itself continued and heightened as the group traveled, but it wasn't malicious, it wasn't meant to disrupt. It was like something was activating and they just happened to be here.
Before all too long, it wouldn't be difficult to see. But a massive hole was present in the center of the room, easily wide enough to fit even the greatest of buildings from terminus. Floating at the center of this, well above eye level was a single ring like structure. Easily big enough on it's own to be something akin to a four or five story building. It wasn't lighting up like the rest of the room and for a good reason. The symbols on it seemed dull and lifeless, like they were missing something.
But as soon as it started, the rumbling stopped.
A single hand, massive in origin rose out of the pit that the ring floated above; slamming down onto the edge of the large pit to hoist it's owner slowly up. A second hand, equally as massive joined it. Pulling up what the group would recognize from the drawing. Though the drawing itself failed to catch the proper size of this anubismon.
It's head rose slowly out of the pit, and it would pull itself up from the pit. It's massive chest lined with wrappings that were hanging off this way and that. One particular location looked like it had been in a fight recently; what with the shredded bandages and scorch marks. The anubismon didn't look worse for wear as though this little tussle hadn't done much other than annoy it.
Next would come it's legs and a massive pair of metal wings. If it hadn't been inside it wouldn't need to be hunched over. Somehow it was even larger than the room's massive cieling, forcing it to keep a kneeled position at best. Fighting this thing in this enclosed room seemed like an incredibly bad idea given the reach and size of it's arms. Not to mention the fact that none present knew what sort of moves it would employ.
A deep throaty rumbling rolled out from it's chest, through it's metal throat and out of it's lips. It spoke the same vibrant language that the mask did. But the gentle undertone that followed was unlike it's massive frame.
Unlike everything so far, unlike the guardians. Unlike the mask. These words that were underneath everything else could be understood. Perhaps something was at work to give it the ability to do so, or perhaps it was just a quick learner given how broken the digi-speak sounded. But as it spoke, it grew more confident. More proper. Like it was understanding the words coming out of it's mouth as it was speaking them.
"I. Guardian. You. Children. What. What... Are you doing here younglings?"
The same pulsing energy from along the lines of the floor were all across it's frame now, even up to it's eyes. It was processing data at an incredible speed; like the mere presence of those from this time-frame was giving it what it needed. What it wanted.
Knowledge.

...This... holy fuck, what the hell is this? Seriously? Can someone explain to him why the fuck there are something this strong down here? Yuuki was temporarily frozen when he saw whatever coming out, yet... his Digivice isn't activating, perhaps because he doesn't feel hostile intent from the huge thing. The moment it spoke, Yuuki quickly dropped on his knee as a sign of respect. Hikaru obviously doing the same.
"Our sincerest greeting, o mighty guardian. Pardon us for entering without much of a greetings prior. A graverobber we're not, merely people in pursuit of knowledge, and this structure greatly interests us. We would like to know about this place, and request you to enlighten us what happened to predecessor before us. We heard they're cursed, half insane perhaps. I assumed it have something to do with catching your ire... could you please enlighten us, o mighty guardian?"
...There are not that much that he can explain. He hoped the rest could fill him here... it's hard to talk when you're in presence of such a mighty being after all... And he hoped that he did the right thing. Also... how to "deal" with this one?

This room was getting more and more ethereal and fascinating. The lights swiftly the illuminated the chamber, which was impressive considering the staggering scale. As the group stepped forward, everything began to shake in a way that kept them on their feet, but clearly indicated that something was about to happen. The, in a massive opening in the ground ahead, something began to appear.
Toki gulped, voice trapped in his throat as he watched this colossal being rise up from the middle of the room. In a chamber that was already comparable to the size of the largest of buildings, this Anubismon still needed to be crouched to even fit. There was only one outcome to battle if it came to it in Toki's opinion. Absolute, crushing defeat. He couldn't blame Yuuki and Hikaru's reaction to seeing a being of immeasurable power like this. Whatever battle they had gotten into seems to have done little more than inconvenience it at best.
After a moment, Toki knelt down and gently placed the mask on the floor in front of him "It's as my friend says. We're not here to desecrate or steal. We are here to understand the origins of this place and its purpose. Not for any gain of our own, but for knowledge. I apologize on behalf on whoever came here before. I hope we will prove to be more hospitable guests and be able to have a civil conversation of the current and past natures of the world." He said, his tone professional and unwavering.
Just what did the previous explorer do here? As intimidating a presence this Anubismon was, they didn't seem the sort to attack without reason. Their question was one of curiosity, not malice. "I am fascinated by the history of this world. I am human, and this world is an incredible place. To understand where Digimon were so long ago is its own treasure. And for humans, tombs such as this are sacred places. I would never dream of defiling it in any way."
