"You would thrive here," Arukenimon said, mostly to herself. She then addressed Akemi. “Even so, it will have to be finished eventually, won’t it? And I’m certain it will need a Trailmon station. Please, let me know if anything comes of your efforts.”
Jen nodded. “That makes sense. If nothing else, I could use to learn more about the Digital World.”
Akemi’s words seemed to reach Cheeto well enough. “Ohhh. ‘Cause he’s a big meanie,” he said. “But then he’s gonna be good again, right? And I can ride him!”
“Maybe,” Jen said. It seemed unlikely the guy would have a change of heart just like that, but they’d cross that bridge when they came to it.
Soon they were on their way. As they started in the direction of what would eventually become Deeplane City, the buildings gradually thinned out. Until all that was left was a vaguely cube-shaped pile of scrap with a sign hanging down that appeared to read “WC”.
And two much bigger piles of scrap that didn’t resemble anything at all.
Jen stared up at them in amazement. These was practically a mountains. One was full of metal, wood, a plastic-like substance, and overall much shinier materials than the other pile. Said second mountain was made of dust, dirt, a bit of slime, unidentifiable chunks, and even a few human world drink and snack remains. The shadows of these twin peaks covered everyone there.
“I see we’ve come to the Fragment Village Waste Management Center,” Arukenimon said, an air of sarcasm in her tone. “We’ll be traveling through desert, for about ninety minutes assuming nothing goes wrong. So if anyone needs supplies from our ‘recycling’...” She motioned to the cleaner pile on the left. “...now would be the time to gather them.”

"We'll see if it does. Right now the city is, as I said, a construction site with a lot of DexDorugamon digging tunnels. So, we're making efforts to just get established in the first place, you know? I'll do my best to send word to you about progress, though." The girl nodded towards Arukenimon, before turning her attention to Cheeto. "...What Jen said. It's a solid maybe."
...Of course, the journey that they embarked upon took a quick stop at a waste management area that Akemi didn't even know existed. Anzu, however, seemed mystified by all this TRASH. The bean then set to work gathering the bare necessities for a ninety minute long desert trek. Mostly for herself, though. Akemi wouldn't touch this with a ten foot pole.
"...Saving me the trouble of looking through that myself." Arkadimon uttered, watching the bean go.

Arukenimon nodded. “I look forward to your updates.”
“Okay!” Cheeto said in response to Jen and Akemi. Maybe wasn’t bad, and that was enough for him.
After they reached the trash heap, Jen nodded in agreement with Arkadimon. “I don’t know if I could find anything in there.”
Anyway, what exactly would they need on a ninety-minute walk, anyway? Ninety minutes wasn’t really that long; Jen had been on far longer car rides. But even if she didn’t need anything, Cheeto might.
“Cheeto, do you need any-- Cheeto!”
Cheeto had followed Anzu to the trash heap and was now wearing a metal can from the “recycling” pile like a hat. “Hmm...oh! I wanna balloon!”
“How about something we don’t need to put our mouths on?” Jen ran closer to the pile. “And try not to touch anything smelly, okay? There’s germs.” Assuming they had those here.
“Okay!”
Jen bent down to look at a large piece of cardboard near the bottom of the pile, wondering if she could use it as shade. She turned to Anzu. “Do you see anything useful?”

There'd be a number of updates coming soon either way regarding the city, so Akemi decided to put a nail on that conversation with Arukenimon with a simple nod. Meanwhile, with Anzu...It turns out that most of the trash she had gathered was actually just stuff to put on. Because somehow, this terrible little bean had found a tacky hat and some shades.
She was now wearing both of these, which made for a rather ridiculous sight when it came down to it. "Yeah, this stuff's pretty dang useful for sending a message." Seriously answering, however? "Well, there's nothing edible, but I did see like...one or two knives if you wanna threaten the Trailmon with cutting his brakes or something."
That's...A little extreme. "Otherwise, I'm pretty ready for the trip!"

Upon seeing Anzu’s new look, Jen briefly raised her eyebrows. But Cheeto’s eyes sparkled like he was looking at light show.
Jen nodded at Anzu’s statement. “That’s fair. I mean, even if there were anything edible, I wouldn’t trust it.” Once it was clear Cheeto hadn’t gone anywhere, she approached the pile herself. “Where’d you find the knife? I don’t know about cutting the Trailmon’s brakes, but you never-- oh, here it is.” It was a tad rusty, but she’d take it-- and she even found a strange rubber tube just wide enough to be used as a sheath. She stuck it in her backpack and slid back down.
And somehow, by this point, Cheeto had managed to grab himself an adult-sized bicycle helmet. “I got style!” And the helmet slid to the ground.
Jen rushed over to him. “Be careful! It could be dirty.” But a thorough examination revealed no bugs or food bits, and there wasn’t even a weird smell. She still hesitated to give it back, but Cheeto’s wings drooped down in such a sad display that she relented. It wouldn’t fit on his head, so she strapped it around his back like a turtle shell.
And speaking of Cheeto… “Would anyone happen to have food? Just in case he gets hungry.” After that was cleared up, she’d be all set.

"...I mean, you can cut 'em while he's asleep. And believe me, these guys do have a standby period, shocking as it may be." Anzu stated with a matter-of-fact tone. Oh, hey, Jen had found a knife. The bean nodded her head in approval as the lady was now properly equipped to do crimes. If she so desired, of course.
Akemi looked to Cheeto and stifled a snicker at Jen's antics with her partner, before she nodded. "I have some in my Infini-Store, so...we should be set if anyone gets hungry. Usually leave it for Anzu whenever she gets hungry, but I think it's stuff Cheeto would like." Hope the cheeto puff liked trail mix.
Either way, with everything seeming to be settled, Akemi and Anzu glanced towards Arukenimon. "Well, we're ready whenever you are. You said this is about an hour and a half's worth of walking, right? Are you sure about this? Because once we get going, we'll be walking for a damn long while."

Interesting. Jen supposed even trains had to sleep, if they were alive.
She sighed with relief when Akemi said she had food. “Good.” Looking up, she added, “It should be fine, long as it’s not too outlandish. Only thing Cheeto’s had that he didn’t like was a lemon.”
“I’ve wanted to do this for a ‘damn long while’,” replied the Arukenimon. “I’m going whether you’d like to follow me or not.” She raised a claw-like hand to her chin. “But we could stop at the nearest station on the way to the second nearest. Perhaps he changed his mind about stopping there.” She turned toward the desert, away from the village. “Either way, our destination requires us to walk in this direction. Are you ready?” She didn’t even wait for an answer; off she went into the red sandy expanse.
Jen, predisposed to following people, shuffled behind her. “Come on, Cheeto.”
Cheeto, who had been studying himself in a piece of aluminum foil, perked his head up. “Okay!” And he hurried to Jen’s side.
Jen stopped to look back at Akemi, Anzu, and anyone else who had followed them to this point. “Are you coming?”
