Lee snuck up the stairs to his apartment. The moonlight shone dimly through the windows in the stairwell, and illuminated his room number: 203. He checked every direction to make sure no one would see him. His green polo, branded with the seven eleven logo, rested comfortably on his body, tucked into his gray slacks. He had been working until midnight on this particular day, so most of the people in his three level apartment complex were already asleep by the time he got home. The young pianist slid the key into the lock mechanism, turned his hand, and opened the door to his abode.
In the corner of the yellow painted room was an electronic keyboard, next to a bookshelf filled with music and books alike. A medium sized potted plant blanked the other side of the instrument. A fuzzy rug covered a significant portion of the dark, wood paneled floor. The room was shaped like a wide "L" and in the outreaching leg was a small dinner table and a set of chairs. To the left was an open arch leading to a cute little kitchen, fully furnished. In the closed off portion of the "L" there was a small bathroom with a shower. In the remaining corner of the room was a twin sized bed and a dresser, with a small metal lamp resting on it. On any other day, such an empty room would be a welcome sight, but as Lee perceived the significant lack of a giant egg that had been there this morning, beads of sweat began to form on his hairline.
A glint of something caught his eye. Something quick and shiny darted out from under his bed and towards the door, which Lee had left open a crack out of absentmindedness. Acting out of reflex, he dived to grab it, but as his fingers made contact, he felt a jolt rush through his body, forcing him to let go. The silvery creature slid out the front door and disappeared. In a panic, the young conbini store clerk reached into his bag and pulled out a flip phone. He attempted to contact law enforcement... but his phone didn't appear to be working. "Tch," he scoffed, and pondered his options. Whatever that thing was, Lee felt as though it would be his responsibility if something weird happened, whether it hurt someone else or someone else hurt it. Grimacing, he dropped his bag, exited his apartment, being sure to lock the door behind him, and ran down the stairs, out into the streets of Western Shibuya's residential district, running down the road in search of a metallic blob.

Shibuya's night air had a calming effect on Amelie's mind. Truth to be told, it had been a while since she had spent a night outside of her apartment; exams had gotten her really busy! Luckily, that wasn't an issue for now, nor for the nearby future.
For that much, Amelie was glad.
Despite the events that had transpired recently, a semblance of normalcy still permeated the streets of Tokyo. No weird events had happened since that incident at Miyashita, and it seemed like everyone had gone with their lives normally. As much as they could, at the very least. Maybe there was still some leftover suspicion lingering in the air, but the truth was that she couldn't really bring herself to think too much about it.
In a sense, it wasn't her problem. It might sound mean, but there was a reason why there was a team of enforcers to take care of that, right?
Maybe it was for the best to stop thinking about that. It was weird how her mind went to those places when she was trying to relax?
Before that train of thought could become even more convoluted, a silvery flash of something more or less mouse-sized careening past towards her, going towards who knew where. Guessing what it was wasn't hard, but... was she going to do anything about it?
Considering that the digimon's sprint was promptly followed by a young adult wearing a green polo in hot pursuit, it probably made sense to act on it. Time to see what would come off it!
It probably would look a bit ridiculous to the casual onlooker, to see two people chasing off after the same thing, but then again... it was evening already; hopefully, nobody will be looking!

Lee was gaining on the little metal mouse. Although the little creature's smaller size presumably allowed it quick movement, the human male's long legs allowed him to make pretty good pace against it. Conveniently for Lee, it seemed that the mysterious vermin was tracing his path in reverse from Lee's subway stop to his apartment complex He knew that in just a minute or so they would pass by a short street with no outlet. If he could coerce the little beast into running down that path he'd have the best chance of catching it, but at the same time he had to avoid getting shocked again. While he was considering this, he noticed another figure out of the corner of his eye, and began to hear footsteps behind him. Just great... now he had to deal with another person as well? Capturing a mouse was one thing, but talking to another Shibuya resident, and one who hangs around outside at midnight no less, was not his forte.
He passed by a small house, and noticed a wooden bucket outside the door. Making a mental note of where to return it later, he veered off to the side of the street to grab it, and to stop himself from losing momentum, kicked off the side of the building, and towards the little electric mouse. The motion alerted the pest, and it took off towards its right side... right into the alleyway Lee had been planning on chasing it down.
Picking up the pace into a sprint. he dove forward, and swung the wooden bucket down out top of the animal. He heard a squeak, and could feel something inside struggling to get out, but it seemed as though the young man had finally captured the peculiar mouse.

The pursuit was the kind of excitement that Amelie had actively been trying to avoid in her free time; she couldn't get a break from the Digital World no matter how hard she tried, could she?
In a sense, the brunette was glad about that. A fair bit of time had passed since she had witnessed —or experienced— an event like this one. It got her blood running as few things could. Her pace quickened, yet still managed to keep at a relatively fair distance from the pursuit that mattered. At least for now, she was in the sidelines.
That self-assigned role wouldn't last for long, however. Thanks to some quick thinking, the grey-haired male had managed to, quite literally, trap the digimon inside a wooden bucket. Depending on the situation, that could end rather badly, so it was probably the best moment for her to take a more active approach on what was happening.
Eventually, she closed the distance, and after sighing a bit from the exertion and straightening her clothes a bit, the young woman finally decided to talk.
"Impressive work there." She commented; her tone was lighthearted and her expression, somewhat nonchalant. "Not everyone would've been as clever as to pick a bucket on the way. That was pretty smart."
She paused for some idle seconds. It seemed like the brunette hadn't recovered her breath quite yet. "What are you gonna do with it?"
Amelie contemplated how rude was to not have introduced herself before speaking so casually to somebody who, by all intents and purposes, was an absolute stranger. Yet, in a way, that matter seemed to be a bit more pressing. They were dealing with a digimon, after all. Oh well, at the very least, she was somewhat glad that not a lot of people seemed aware of what was happening; DATS agents deciding to suddenly appear would be among her least favorite ways to end this night.

"Do with.. it?"
Lee hated interacting with other people in general, but this particular situation was, possibly, a worst case scenario. Lee was out of breath, he was trying to contain a metal mouse-like creature, and it was late. He was already mentally exhausted from a full day of work, and he would usually have gotten into bed an hour or so ago. On top of it all, this stranger who had approached him was speaking fluent Japanese, and although his time in Shibuya had taught him to manage the second language, his mental exhaustion was working against his tongue. While he was lamenting this situation, he was also attempting to work out an explanation for what he she had seen him doing.
"I'm afraid I'm... not sure what you, um, mean, miss," he said, "I was just going, hmm, for a walk, err..." he looked up at the sky in thought. "Ah, screw it," he said in English, before going back to Japanese, "I'm not really sure what's going on, but with your tone of voice you seem pretty comfortable with whatever is underneath this bucket. I woke up this morning, and this might come off as odd to you, but there was a giant egg sitting in my apartment, with whatever this is nearby," he fished around in the pocket of his slacks, and pulled out a small gold and white electronic device, with a thick antenna, a screen, and two buttons.
"I'm not sure what they are or how or if they're connected, but I have a feeling you might have some answers," he said allowed, but thought Or you're a weirdo who walks around at midnight, and you're about to call the cops because of how insane I sound right now. He gave a sigh, "My name is Leon Salt, but you can call me Lee. If you have any better idea than I do of what's going on, I could use some advice."

The situation at hand seemed to be particularly awkward to the young man Amelie was talking to. That was fine, at least on what regarded to her; she could attribute that to the possible inexperience he had regarding the whole matter, but that judgment might've been too hasty. As for now, she was just gauging the situation.
While this encounter prolonging itself on the outdoors could run the risk of being really dangerous, it wasn't like hurrying it up didn't risk the same outcome. A bit of a bothersome situation, but also exciting in a sense.
A small smile was drawn on the brunette's face, almost as if she was enjoying the strange exchange currently happening between the two, with the expression growing progressively wider as he ditched his cover. Would that put the man at ease, or be a sign to feel alarmed?
"I can talk in English if that's a problem." The girl said, trying to sound approachable before continuing with the conversation. "You've gotten yourself on a very interesting spot, but I don't think that discussing it would be fitting in... a place like this. You know, in the middle of the street at this time of the night. Think you can carry the little guy around for a bit? Getting somewhere where we're not at risk of your partner being seen would be ideal. I know a place nearby; this talk gets easier over a cup of tea, anyway."
Her expression returned to a semblance of cordial neutrality. "Nice to meet you, Lee. Name's Amelie, but just Amy's fine."
Would Leon follow her lead, or would he have second thoughts regarding the whole issue? In either case, it wasn't like she was losing a lot.

The young pianist breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing that the conversation would be continued in his native tongue. Amy's words were curious, however. What did she mean she mentioned a partner? Lee had lived alone since he got to Japan, not even seeing his father at all after their plane landed. The idea, too, that this stranger would know details about his personal life was intriguing, if disturbing. Though, once again, her tone of voice betrayed her earnest intent. Something about the way she carried herself put it in Lee's conscience to believe this woman, and that following her wherever she wanted to go would lead to the answers he had been looking for since all these bizarre happening had started popping up in his life.
"Alright then, I'll follow you, but... I'm not sure how to make sure the little bugger doesn't escape," he looked around and saw a trash can lid a couple feet away. He stuck out his left leg and pulled it in, pulling a scooping maneuver to flip the bucket and mouse inside, and then sealing it on top with the lid using his other hand.
"Lead the way."

Well, that had been easy! It was a good thing that Lee was a reasonable human with a relatively open mind, at least for a situation like this one. That'd make the whole deal a lot easier!
With the MetalKoromon properly secured, the two humans made their way into a small tea house; a place Amelie herself had visited on a couple of occasions, and that was somewhat famous for being open pretty much at all times. Such was the fervor of their owners that they had decided that a warm cup of tea could be enjoyed at any time of the day!
Or the night, rather. The place was definitely a breath of fresh air when compared to the plethora of neon signs that tended to illuminate Shinjuku. A cozy construction made mostly of wood and overly polite people staffing it. If somebody couldn't relax here, they definitely had issues.
Soon enough, the brunette led her peer to a table, and the two would take a seat. "Is there anything you want to drink? It's on me; I'd say that you already have a fair bit on your plate with the little guy, anyway." A couple of gestures called in waiter, and once that was taken care of, the young woman would begin to address the topic at hand.
"So, a fair word of warning first." Had this one become a trademark of hers? At least it kinda felt like it! "This is isn't going to make a lot of sense, and I'm probably gonna sound like a crappy copy of the guy from Matrix, but I the truth is that, as soon as somebody dips into this, they usually are into it for a while. And the whole deal is kinda taxing on your time and energy. So, if you like your life and having free time, the best suggestion I could give would be for you to hand me the little guy and forget this ever happened. I'll make sure it'll be returned safely where it belongs."
She sighed. Chances were that her offer would be rebuffed, and that was totally okay. That's what made the these meetings all the more fun. "So, what are you gonna choose? Returning to your old life, or diving into what's going to be a pretty dangerous, but undoubtedly exciting affair, all while being able to keep your very own alien pet?"
That should sum it up fairly well. The ball was on Leon's side of the court now.

Lee followed along with the mysterious brunette. He had agreed, after all, to follow her lead, and tracked her steps all the way from the alley that they had started their conversation in to a quaint tea house. Though Lee was, once again, suspicious of anyone who was so lively that they could be out and about at this hour of night, he figured that it wasn't the weirdest thing to happen to him that day, and followed her inside.
The decor inside did much to set the young man at ease. Japan as a whole seemed very customer oriented, from Lee's foreign viewpoint, and this place was no different. He took a deep breath and let the atmosphere of the place work its magic as he took a seat and let his tense shoulders begin to loosen up.
He thanked Amy for her generosity and ordered a cup of matcha, if only so he could keep himself awake and fully attentive throughout their meeting. He patiently listened to the young woman as she did her best to preface the inevitably bizarre conversation they were about to have, but couldn't help coming out of it with a few questions
"Well, as far as whether I'm fully on board with this or not, I wasn't exactly aware I had a choice. If I'm being honest I don't have much going on in Shibuya. I'm working a pretty lousy day job, I don't get all that many gigs. I don't mean for you to pity me, by the way," he said, flashing a comfortable smile, "I'm perfectly happy with the way things are, but I don't see my family or friends all that often, just as a result of adult life. Basically, I'm saying I don't have much to lose by getting invested in whatever you're talking about. That begs the question though, what is it you're talking about?"
Lee leaned backwards in his chair, keeping his left hand on top of the garbage can lid which held his so called "alien pet" inside the bucket. "I kind of get what you're saying. If you tell me what this little guy is, it'll put some kind of responsibility on my shoulders to do something with that information. I'm not a stranger to the concept, and just to satisfy my own curiosity I'm willing to make the commitment. But along with that, if you don't mind," he raised an eyebrow, "I'm really itching to know what's going on."
Lee was enthused with the situation. He had been bored out of his mind for the last three years, maybe even more than that. Even if the person sitting across from him sounded like a total loon, the idea that this might be the big break from monotony he had been looking for pushed him to play into the fantasy of it all.

Once again, the situation proceeded smoothly. Amelie listened attentively to what Lee had to say; a bit of a satisfied smile was the natural result of his story. What could she say? At least he seemed like a decent person. Good enough to her.
"Well, I hope you're sure about your choice." She took a sip of her green tea before addressing the initial comment. "And don't worry about the pity part. I can get how the daily grind can make life incredibly dull. Adulthood sucks at times, doesn't it?"
A somewhat mirthless laugh escaped her lips. "I'm glad you understand what this whole situation entails; that's way better than the average I get. Shall we begin, then? I guess I've been beating around the bush for a while already." One deep breath later, the explanation began. "So, the little thing you have there is called a digimon; it's pretty much an alien with amazing powers, and it has chosen you to be its partner. Or at least, that should be case theoretically; it seems like the guy has yet to warm up to you."
Considering how much resistance the digimon was putting, one could say that he didn't fancy Lee all that much! Given how the usual partner was head-over-heels for his tamer, this was... a bit surprising, honestly. "They start small and weak, but the one you've gotten will grow in no time thanks to the gizmo that appeared on your pocket; that one is called a digivice, by the way. Anyway, in most cases, digimons end up developing sapience and... the ability to cause untold amounts of destruction, at least by human standards. That's why there's a bit of a 'secret' police force of sorts that looks to send them all back to their world, and why you should be really careful about how much exposure you wanna give to your little guy; the less, the better in my opinion."
Maybe that had been a bit of an explanation dump. Getting comprehensive with this was always hard. "Got everything thus far? Anything you might want to ask? Better to answer any questions you might have about this before moving on."
After all, if this one wasn't that well understood, chances were that explaining what the whole Digital World was about would be a lost cause.

Lee listened to the young woman maker her introductions to the concept of what she referred to as digimon and the digital world. It certainly did seem that his "digimon," as it were, wasn't entirely open to the idea of being his partner. As she talked about the device he had found himself left with upon the arrival of the mysterious egg, he reached into his pocket and traced its buttons. Though he had agreed to take Amy at her word, this all was getting more and more odd. Especially the implication that the creature in the bucket could metamorphose to becoming something more powerful. It's not like any animal he'd heard of could make such drastic changes, with the exception of small bugs that wouldn't take as much energy.
"A transforming creature, who will develop sapience and become capable of mass destruction? Sure, I don't see why that's something you'd be lying to me about. That being said, you seem to be referring to this thing in my lap as an alien, but that also carries with it the implication that it's not a native, in one way or another," he sighed a sigh of exasperation, indicating that he was slowly processing the information, but processing it nonetheless, "So are we talking another country here, or are we talking another planet?"
There was two possibilities. If she meant it was from another country, that was one thing. Perhaps that meant it was some kind of biological weapon or an invasive species, neither of which seemed good, though that would make sense if she was talking environmentally destructive. On the contrary, if it was from space he wasn't quite sure what to think, though if it was dangerous, maybe there was something to all those rumors back home about Area 51...

So far, so good. Lee seemed to have a somewhat solid grasp on the new concepts that were being introduced to him. All things considered, digimon were somewhat easier to explain to somebody when a veritable proof of their existence was standing right in front of them. Not much else was needed.
What came next? Not hard to guess, considering where the girl's explanation had been going out. Yet, it demonstrated how sharp the young man was, considering that he went straight there without further prompting. The brunette found herself talking again after a short sip of tea.
"Yeah; you can call it an alien, or a foreigner, or whatever. The bottom line is that they're not from this world, thankfully. Their home is called the Digital World; I guess you could say it's another planet, even though it's pretty much linked with ours, so that's a bit of a gray area. You could go there right now if you really wanted, even though the place's a bit dangerous if you don't know what you're going, or if you end up in one of the less-than-friendly places."
Maybe that had been thrown a bit offhandedly. Time to explain it more in-depth. "There's some kind of relation between the Digital World and the electronic appliances of ours; of course, that doesn't matter more often than not, but that's how some of its inhabitants can come here, and, in a sense, how humans can visit if they want. Your guy probably ended here on accident, or maybe because of the bond that formed between the two of you. The whole deal about why some humans are linked with some digimons is a mystery. Can't help you with that, sadly."
There were still many unanswered questions regarding the Digital World; some were interesting enough to pursue their answers, while others... not so much. "So, what are you gonna do that you know the truth? Chances are that you can keep on living your life like nothing of this ever happened. Or you can act on it, if you wanna. With any luck, your little guy will grow into something that can talk and you can discuss it together, but the usual would be for it to want to visit his home world at some point or another."
Or not. Human-digimon partnerships could be so different from each other it wouldn't be surprising if Amy's predictions came out wrong. But that was part of what made them so interesting.

Everything that Amy said came across as more and more unhinged to the part of Lee's brain that was trying to hold on to some standard sense of reality. That being said, he had no choice at this point to believe everything, and sure enough, he had physical evidence of what she was saying in his own hands.
His companion had continued to discuss the origins of the creature that he had been chasing earlier that night, and repeatedly mentioned their luck at them coming from another world. It did seem that Amy's understanding of these creatures was that they posed some threat to humanity should they be able to, as she had stated, slip into their world with any amount of ease. Vice versa, it seemed she was suggesting that if Lee were to go to this other planet, he would be doomed due to the amount of destruction these little mice were capable of. The link between Digimon and humans, both in the broad sense of how their worlds were linked, and how the humans and individual monsters were connected served as a point of curiosity, although Amy admitted that she didn't have much of an explanation as to the "why" of the situation.
"If I'm being honest, Amy," he said, "You're kind of starting to lose me. It's not that my interest is waning, or that I'm going back on my promise to commit to this idea, but the concept of another reality, that's somehow linked to our world, not even through nature, but through human invented technology... well, the idea is just a little hard to wrap my head around just from talking about it. I guess I'm trying to say, basically, that I'd have to see it to believe it."
He paused to gather his thoughts before continuing, "But if its a matter or question of commitment, I'm certainly on board to see it."

Well, that was a bit expected. It was somewhat predictable that Lee would need physical proof, and that discussing vague concepts would probably be more confusing than helping. Luckily, getting over that detail wasn't very hard, all things considered.
"That has an easy fix." It was also an opportune thing that Amelie's tea had pretty much run out at this point! "Want to see the Digital World by yourself? We can go whenever you want; mostly. I'm a bit of a busy girl, but I'm sure we can pick an agreeable time where both are free."
Concerning her, she had no issue on going to such a place right now, but she had no idea regarding Lee's own timetable, even though his speech kinda expressed that he didn't have a lot going on for him. Who knows, maybe it'd be soon, maybe it wouldn't. The implication of her own words wasn't lost to the brunette, but it was late and retracing on them seemed pointless, so she just shrugged.
"I'm gonna pay for our stuff. If you wanna go, I guess that you have until I come back to decide on a day or a time. No hurry though." It wasn't like she couldn't just give her a phone number or something for them to handle that later. Unceremoniously, she just stood up to pay.

Lee nodded as Amy got up and walked to the counter while giving him time to think about his schedule. He wasn't completely sure what his schedule was, actually, probably thanks to the ease of technology. He whipped out his cell phone and booted up his calendar app. The next day he was working for a solid amount of it and expected himself to be pretty tired, but he had a day off after that. He gave careful consideration--- did he really want to give up that opportunity to decompress? Would he be able to gather himself for such an experience as traveling to another world in just one day? As if in response, the mouse in the bucket give a good smack against the side. Right... it wasn't like he would be able to relax much with this thing in his house. While he was still sitting, he held the bucket against the trash can lid with his left hand, while taking a nearby pen and writing down his phone number on a piece of tissue.
When Amy got back to the table, Lee rose to meet her. "I'd shake your hand but..." he tilted his head to the bucket in his arms, "Anyways, I've made my decision. I'm free in two days, and I'd be willing to meet up with you wherever to do this thing, whatever it is. If that's too soon, or you're busy that day, I left my cell number on that bit of napkin, feel free to get in contact at your convenience. If you don't mind though," he said through a yawn, "I've had my fill of excitement for today. Thank you for the tea, I best get back home. I look forward to our next meeting." And with that, he made his way home, a newly christened Digidestined.
