The Familiar Stranger [Silence]

Whitewater was usually the place where people went to and from the Blossom Isles. As such, after obtaining his new spirit from the old monastery in the Isles, he returned to Whitewater to finally relax after a while. Aylin said she would stay at the monastery for the time being, as she wanted to explore the ruins and see if there was anything of value left behind after all this time.
Toki got off the boat and looked out towards the ocean city. It's been quite some time since he's been here, so he figured he would make the most of it. He looked at his digivice and smiled. The final gift from his friend and mentor...a new spirit, and the will to keep going. Slowly, Toki began to accept what had happened. To dwell on it would be disrespectful to those who were lost. He would honor their memory and continue to fight for what he believed in.
While he walked the streets and waved at a few familiar faces from when he helped around Whitewater a long time ago, he decided to relax and get something to eat. With everything that's happened he hasn't been taking the best care of himself, so he should probably go to a restaurant and get a nice meal.
He wondered if there were any restaurants with a good view of the ocean. As he pondered he eventually found what he was looking for. One such restaurant had outdoor seating with plenty of open tables under some umbrellas, and it was next to the ocean. Happy for this discovery, Toki walked over and got himself seated at a table closest to the railing. He ordered some lemonade to get started and looked over the menu for now.

Whitewater was a place that Silence knew vaguely, she knew of it's connections with other places and that it was a hub for all coastal trade. It was the first place that she had gone to to get a mission and met someone that she hadn't before. Someone that was largerly friendly and honestly reminded her of someone. But it had caused dreams, memories to come to her unbidden during her sleep. Causing her to draw out things that she didn't know but remembered.
Faces of people that the other had met, individuals that she couldn't know. People she didn't recognize. Places she had never been. All throughout it was pain, happiness, sadness, and a deep honor that she couldn't relate to. At least not right away. There was a burning passion in this other iteration of her that silence simply couldn't match.
Such a powerful burning passion that she could feel with every fiber of her being. So much so it made it hard to sleep. She decided that today would be a day to herself, something that she hadn't done in a week or so. She couldn't help herself and honestly... well she knew that the restaurants around here were probably good. A few of them called out to her, a few of them spoke to her. But just a single one seemed to gain her attention. She'd step into the entryway, looking a bit lost and after a moment pulled out her journal...
"...Yeah I've been here too I think..."
But the arrangements were different, the people were different. There was a somber air to it last time. She'd bite her lip and take a seat at the waiting area. Unsure if she wanted to stay or wanted to leave...
Why was it that every place she went had such powerful memories?

When Toki was about to order, he glanced over at a figure that had just arrived. He dropped the menu and said "I-I'll be right back." He stood up and walked over to the familiar Digimon. The cape, the white fur...Toki couldn't believe it. Was he hallucinating from exhaustion? "...K...?" He said, barely keeping himself composed "Is that you? Please tell me I'm not seeing things...please..." Tears brimmed in his eyes as he wiped them on his sleeves.
He never knew a Digimon that looked quite like her. From what he heard she was unique even among her species, but was it really her? He paused before awkwardly stepping back. What if this was a misunderstanding? He must look so foolish "I'm sorry...you...you can't be her. She's gone..." he looked down, rubbing his arm. "I must have seemed so strange right there. I thought...I thought I saw an old friend again." He said. Toki remained silent for a moment, nervous that he made a weird first impression with the Digimon.
"M-My name's Toki Akiyama. It's...nice to meet you." Saying those words stung, but in case this really was someone else he wanted to salvage this meeting in some way "You look like you're looking for something...is there anything I can do? If you want, you can sit with me and we can talk over lunch."
He tried his best to stay composed and gave his best smile. He sat back down and took a drink from his lemonade "You just...remind me of one of my best friends. So seeing you was kind of a shock to the system. I've been through a lot lately, but I don't want to bother you with my story."

Silence shifted in her seat, looking over her D-terminal on her wristlet. She'd flick an ear however when someone approached her, calling her by a name that she didn't know. There was a distinct look of confusion on her face, followed by the shutmon opening her mouth to respond to the other. There was a momentary brief flash of a strange town and her being a lot taller than she had ever been carrying something heavy before she could really respond. Giving her head a shake she'd put a hand to her head staring at the individual.
"I don't think you have the right person buddy."
Silence couldn't shake the feeling that she knew this man somehow, the shutmon gritted her teeth a little bit and the awkward moment that came from him apologizing only forced her to hold up a hand to sort of wave off the apology.
"Nothing to apologize about, I get that a lot. Erm..."
Silence didn't hesitate on the rebound however, perking up a bit as he introduced himself. She'd stand up and offer a little bow, even going so far as to extend her hand for a shake. Humans did that right?
"Not so much strange as just reminding me that the other that came before probably made an impact in places I couldn't expect. A pleasure to meet you Toki, I'm Silence."
She'd pause a bit and then look down to her journal, gritting her teeth as the journal sat there. Taunting her. She'd follow after him and take a seat, not wishing to seem rude to turn down someone that could have potential answers!
"Lunch seems good to me actually~ I'm... looking for clues to the dreams I've been having, I sketch out each one of them and well. My journal still has a lot of empty pages. A best friend though? They must of been very similar to me for yah to walk up like that. And is that so? Well I've got long ears and time a plenty!"

Toki looked a little sad at the realization that she really wasn't who he thought she was. Still, he wasn't going to let that get in his way of making a new friend if she wasn't too off put by the awkward first impressions. Thankfully, she wasn't. He reached out and shook her hand happily when it was offered "Well it's not surprising you get that a lot. K was...a very well known person and not many looked like her." He said as he let go of her hand. "It's really nice to meet you as well, Silence." He sat down across from her at the table. He ordered a meal and waited for Silence to do the same before he would continue the conversation
Once that was all settled, Silence talked about dreams that she's been having "Well...sure, I'll take a look through the journal if it's not too much trouble. I'm not sure if I'll have many answers, but if I could help I'd love to." He said, offering her a kind smile. When she said she wouldn't mind listening, he tried to figure out exactly where to start. He stopped to think about it.
What better place than the beginning? "Well I actually met her here in Whitewater, funnily enough. Almost two years ago...I was still new to the Digital World then, but she kindly offered to help me out by coming with me to find my first spirit totem. Her encouragement and support pushed me to keep bettering myself and become a better person. I wasn't very social or open with others before, but her help along with so many others made me the person I am today. I owe a lot to her."
He continued on "She formed her own group, the Knights of the Rose...she had a husband, Dr. Mikemon...a daughter, Holly...both of them also amazing people. K and I would meet up and talk, learn from each other, and just enjoy each others' company. A true friend through and through. She even helped save my life when I got careless and got captured by an old enemy of my spirit's. Then...a while after she posted a message saying that she was dying. This wasn't long after my spirit had to sacrifice itself to keep me alive. So...I've just...been in a bad place recently."
For a moment, he remained quiet. Then he snapped out of it "But I'll be fine. I'll pull through...for her and Tsusagimon. Now, um...let's see that journal, okay?" He said with a weak smile.

"Guess we could be twins hah! Nice to meet you too Toki. Or should I call yah Akiyama? How do human names work?"
The shutmon chuckled a bit and put her own order in, a good heaping helping of meats along with a pitcher of water to go along with it. The shutmon rubbed at her neck however as he offered to help her out with the journal. She'd pull the item out of her bag blinking slowly once he started telling her about this "K".
She'd grow silent and tilt her head slightly as he spoke. That seemed hauntingly familiar. A husband Doctor, a group of knights. A daughter... There was so much that they learned about one another and he had lost both his spirit n his best friend in such a short time. The shutmon paused and reached forward to gently place a supporting hand on the human's forearm.
"As long as you remember them and who they were, they'll never really be gone. Best thing you can do is remember and cherish the times you had together with both of them. They'd be happy to know that you were still around n doing stuff even after they were gone."
The shutmon smiled warmly and blinked a bit when he snapped out of his little quiet reverence. She'd hand him the journal. The pages were vibrant drawing so many different happenings throughout her prior life. Though none of them were all too specific. A burning inn. A flurry of rose-petals. A jesmon kneeling and 'protecting' a blacked out form with one arm. There were a few that were mostly scribbles and her trying to make sense of prior ones.
One of the biggest ones had some facility on a floating island, luminas and a hollowed out book.
"Honestly they don't make a lot of sense to me..."

For a few moments after his recollection, Toki was silent. He sighed softly, still clearly affected by the loss. He snapped out of it as Silence placed a hand on his arm to comfort him. What she said next hit him hard. Tears welled up in his eyes as he quickly dried them. He nodded "Mhm...you're right. You're definitely right. Losing her definitely hurt...but she saved my life and considered me her friend. She would be happy knowing that I'm still alive and doing what I believe in and just...living my life."
It was such a simple thought, but it was enough to make Toki at least a little better. Does it still hurt? Absolutely, but now he could focus on healing instead of worrying so much about what he could have done when there likely wasn't anything that he could have. People live and people die. It was an inevitable thing, but dreading and lamenting it wouldn't make it stop. So instead, Toki should honor those who are no longer here by remembering the fondly and continuing with his own life.
Toki read through the notebook and tried his best to make sense of it all based on what he knew about K. "An inn...she did say she was an innkeeper a long time ago, though something must have happened to it or she left it behind..." He said as he carefully turned the pages "Rose petals...I think this symbolizes the Knights of the Rose, that group she was in charge of. This drawing of Jesmon is her protecting someone, though I'm not really sure who it could be. She's saved a lot of people in her life."
He looked at the large image of the floating island "I think this might be the Knights' base...? And this other one is Luminas. This book...hm..." he tried to think about what it could mean. "I think she mentioned something about a Wisemon a long time ago...but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the book drawn here."
He closed the notebook and handed it back to her "I'm sorry if I wasn't much help, but if it's any consolation, you're a good artist." He smiled softly.

SIlence's smile grew to either side of her facec and she'd give the human a small nod. Thankful that she was at least able to comfort this human over the loss of what seemed to be a very good friend. She'd flick her ears as he spoke about her in such a way that seemed... well like they had been more than just friends. Best friends maybe?
The shutmon rubbed at her neck and as he spoke she was able to follow along. An innkeeper that left her inn behind, Knights of the rose... a group she was in charge of? She'd blink slowly and perk up at that, seeming to recognize the name of the group on her own.
"Like the one that other wolf was a part of, I know em! I grew up in rosewood and they were always a topic."
The shutmon made a so-so gesture before flicking her ears forward. Apparently she had saved a lot of people in the past, the shutmon growing a little antsy at hearing that. So she had something to live up to huh? Then came the floating island. Their base. She knew that place well, always seeing it in the distance.
"I've never been to luminas and every time i hear about it, it's always about a coup or how they were super.... crappy before it and people are just. Really worried. And a wisemon? Odd."
The shutmon took the book back and flicked her ears, waving off if he wasn't helpful or not. The shutmon then stuck out her tongue at the other at the compliment.
"I just sorta go through the motions, dunno if it's actually me or somethin' else. But thanks! You were more help than me just starin at the bloody things trying to make sense of em. So I have a few places to check out once I've figured out where to go from here."
The shutmon gave a shrug and leaned back, taking a sip of her drink. Looking thoughtful as she stared at toki, she'd point a finger at him and furrow her brow slowly. There were small flashes, small brief moments of what she could only assume...
"You turn into a big bleedin hare or somethin right? Little flashes n whatnot give me a lot of stuff when I go places she's been. But I don't ussually get that many roun' people..."

He took notice of her nervousness over what K had done in the past and spoke up "Hey." He said to get her attention. "You are your own person, Silence. To put the expectations placed on K upon you is not fair to you. You deserve to live your own life and experience your own story and existence. Your achievements and deeds will be your own. I think that's what K would have wanted from you. She never struck me as the sort who would expect another to blindly take up her mantle. You're in control of your own future." He said, a kind smile offered to her through and through.
"Luminas is...a place I'd rather not visit even now, but after the coup it seems to be under better leadership than it was before." He said, crossing his arms at the mention of the city. He nodded when she thanked him "Of course! I'm glad that I was able to help out with this...I honestly can't imagine what this is like for you."
He was a little taken aback by her intuition or flashes of memories before he laughed happily. He drank a bit more tea as their food arrived "Yes, I become a variety of rabbit-like Digimon. Turuiemon, Antylamon, Lagosmon, ZenCherubimon, Tsusagimon, and now Kenshimon as well...an alternate form I have is Gargomon, but I don't have many chances to use that one." he said, counting on his fingers as he listed them.
"The reason it seems to be such a theme with me is because all of the Digimon were part of the spirit's line when he was alive. It's a good thing I like rabbits." He said with a slight chuckle "You know...one of the last things she did was save my life when I got one of my final spirits. I'll never forget that. Heroic and supportive to the very end."
