A New Homecoming? [Silence]

"Not lost, per se. He just left the Village of Beginnings before we were able to find him."
And that was a common enough occurrence in the Digital World that it didn't concern the cat too much. Besides, they were able to find him eventually. "But because of that, we don't really know if Syre or Siris is older. Not that it really matters, of course." With a smile, he'd lead right on into the city - and Silence's analysis was on point.
This place was big, at least for the area. They were able to quickly pick out the important buildings, before Silence's gaze seemed to decide on their destination: a bar! An old style bar with 'Tavern' above the door, smoke billowing out of the chimney above. Interesting that she picked this place out - K was never the type to drink!
"Mm? If you want, we can check this place out. We can get accustomed to the local atmosphere." He gave a smile, ears flattening as that hand sat atop his head, before the pair would go on in. This wasn't some corner-of-the-mill bar, but a place with several tables, stools, and multiple bartenders - and even at this hour, it was pretty busy, with a number of gruff or strong-looking Digimon either enjoying cheap food or the local ale.
This was definitely a popular after-work hang-out, it seemed - and Mikemon seemed a touch out of his element! "Eheh... lead on, Silence."

"Ohhh okay. I don't really know how the village works past the fact that's where kids start their life at."
Silence gave a shrug as she padded along, honestly it wasn't something she was too familiar with. Her parents didn't really talk about it much and by the sounds of it it wasn't a bad thing for a mon to get some experience before their parents picked them up. But with the idea that syre or siris were the 'oldest' firmly in mind she'd chuckle.
"Duly noted; I doubt it really would even bother either of them by the sounds of it."
The shutmon tilted her head a little bit at seeing the bar, Tavern was a simple name and honestly? She preferred it that way, no real reason for people to have some fancy name for a place where you go to relax and kick your feet up in a sense.
"Yeah. I've wanted to go into one of these places but before I was always just doing something so I didn't really have the time or reason."
She'd trot towards the bar and look about once inside. Several tables, stools, a few bartenders and it was a bustling place. The shutmon tilted her head, noting the few mons that were around. Worker types or guards that were off duty most likely.
"See that booth over there? Lets take a seat."
The shutmon would gesture at the destination before making her way through the various tables and individuals before taking a seat. One perk of a bar is that it was pretty casual no? She could just simply sit down wherever she wanted, honestly with someone not leading them to a pre-destined spot they could pick their own ambiance. Once seated she'd pick at the menu, mulling over what she wanted as a drink.
"...I know this is going to sound a bit weird Mikemon, considering what we're out for. But... can you tell me a little bit about her? Like... how you met or what she really did for a living. I'm.... curious who I came from and honestly my dreams don't really answer anything, just make more questions. Like why rose petals?"

"To be honest, I haven't spent time in a bar in a good long while - so we're about in the same boat on that front." He gave a chuckle as he led her on in, and with the Shutmon's suggestion, the two were sat on a booth near the side - though the cat had to drag a cushion over so that he could at least be able to sit normally at the larger table. The cat peered over the menu himself, before his ear flicked at Silence's question.
'Tell me more about K'.
The question was definitely a bit awkward, but Mikemon folded the menu, piecing together the thoughts in his head. "Let's see... when I first met K, she was an innkeeper in a rather small town, about where Rosewood is now. The Trailmon were down that day so I spent the night at her inn. She was a lot of things for that town: a barkeep, a small medic, and of course, an innkeeper, and she only really left back then to get more supplies from the larger towns. I didn't really meet her for the first time until she moved onto Whitewater."
He bit his lip, at that - and in this pause, the two were able to pass their orders onto the attending waitress.
A pause, and he continued. "Some way or another, that town was just razed overnight - burned down by something or other. I helped her get back on her feet from there, but it was about then that I learned that K had quite the varied history. That she was a descendant of Royal Knights' data - and once she learned that, I'd say she became much more of a chivalrous Digimon. I'm... honestly glossing over a lot here," Mikemon confessed, "and going over all of it might take all night and a good part of the next day. She's, well, obviously the 'mon I know the most about."

"not enough time or just didn't feel like it?"
The shutmon tilted her head, curious what the answer was. Many mons lived very busy lives and she could see mikemon being the sort to being swamped with things to do. The only reason she hadn't gone into them yet is because she wasn't sure if it was a wise idea while she was a guard.
Then came the answer to her question. She was able to order a nice stein of ale along with some varied meats for the meal proper while still listening to mikemon tell her about K. A lot of the information she didn't know and the early bits of it didn't seem very surprising. Small starts often enough made heroes. Something that she and her past iteration seemed to have in common was their residence near the rosewood area.
"From an innkeeper to a hero. That's a pretty damn big leap."
The shutmon chuckled lightly and let the mikemon continued. Silence blinked slowly as he told her how the placee had been razed by someone and following that? She was a descendant of royal knight data. And by proxy so was the shutmon sitting here. She'd look down at her hands, finding them shaking a bit. So her past iteration was a literal hero, a knight without being a knight. The shutmon took a few moments and bit her lower lip.
"Well yeah she was your lover and it sounds like you spent a lot of time with her."
The shutmon would take her drink from the waitress and thank them before taking a sip. The drink burned when it went down but in a good way of sorts. It certainly hit the spot, something like juice but definitely a lot sweeter than what she was expecting!
"To compare, I started out in rosewood with my parents. Became a guard and sort of fuffed about, learning how to fight from them. There was an attack by a skull meramon a good month or so back that brought some wolf with shadows to the place. Some knight or something from that tower out of the borders of rosewood. He was able to stop that skull meramon with an ease I've never seen before."
The shutmon pondered for a few moments and looked to the mikemon. Her brows furrowing together as she seemed to be considering something. She had varied dreams but this one was certainly the most... strange. Another gulp of her drink and the shutmon let out a low growl of a pleased nature. She really liked this drink!
"Not to the same intensity as getting your home burned down, but it's odd that both of us had a starting point that had some kind of fire related incident."
The shutmon shook her head slowly and leaned on the table before staring at the mikemon again. She had a few questions... more about him actually!
"But as somber of a note that is... I'm curious about you Mikemon. Or Doc as I should be calling you. What's your story? How'd you end up a doctor?"
She was curious how they had ended up together but rather than plop on that dicey route the shutmon decided to keep it more casual. Another gulp and her stein was empty, the shutmon making a somewhat jesting pout before the waitress came by the refil it. It was a nice sensation, the sort that tickled at your throat and teased at your mind. Made it easier to talk but not be stupid about it.
"You know. As I am, I really haven't done much or gone a lot of places. I still want to travel and do things abroad. But I gotta say that I really appreciate you letting me stay at the house. Even if it's awkward as hell for you."

"Neither. K was a lightweight who couldn't hold her liquor."
Mikemon rolled his eyes, even sticking his tongue out at that. He'd find out in just a few minutes time that Silence was exactly the opposite of that little trait, ordering a nice, tall glass of ale as he briefly went over her ancestor's story. That bit about being descended from the Knights seemed to catch Silence by surprise, the wolf looking at her arms as if to try and examine that trait.
"Well, you're an ultimate after only about a month out, so you probably benefit from it too..." He shrugged, taking his own drink from the waitress, the cat carefully nursing the side of that frothy glass. As he did, Silence started with her own story, a simple one of growing up in Rosewood and becoming a town guard. Come to think of it, was there a chance that the SkullMeramon was the one responsible for burning down K's old town?
Eh, that was a blind guess at best and a bad assumption at the worst. Soon enough, the topic turned right around to him, Mikemon's ear flicking at the question. "... Its quite a story, actually. I'm a very old Digimon, and I used to be, well, something a lot different than I am now. In short, I became a doctor to get away from my past and to try and start a new life - and with K and the rest, I was pretty successful at that." He gave a sigh, shaking his head.
"Sorry, its just not something I'm proud of. You'll get to know it when the time is right, don't worry."

"Oh. Well that's something I didn't expect."
The shutmon let out a low chuckle and shook her head, still nursing away at that drink. Honestly how could that not catch her attention? It was like learning that you used to work for basically the leader of some mega cooperation when you were a kid or something. The shutmon hummed a little bit at the mention of her being an ultimate at only a month out. Silence paused a bit, hiding her thoughtful look behind a drink.
"Even at ult I seemed to scare people of similar level just with sheer presence. Like when zephyr was controlled or something. She panicked when I digivolved from leomon to this."
The shutmon shrugged a bit, unsure if that really meant anything. The shutmon rubbed at her neck and considered lightly at what information was present. Then mikemon spoke about how he was a very old digimon, and how he used to be something a lot different than what he was now. Something he wanted to get away from, something he wanted to start a new life with her past iteration. She'd stop and look up at him, blinking slowly. She'd open her mouth to speak but the food got to them in relative quick order.
"..."
The shutmon set down her drink, furrowing her brow lightly before considering her next words rather carefully.
"And losing her without a doubt would of been devastating... Are the kids holding up okay?"
She had a hard time reading those two honestly, perhaps it was just because she didn't know them super well or... She'd shake her head a little bit and tap at her plate with a claw, tsking briefly before speaking again.
"It feels so unreal Mikemon. Being some descendant from something like that, someone with so much history."
The shutmon then shrugged, tearing into her food with a surprising gutso. She'd mull over and listen if he had anything to say; but at some point she'd speak again. After she was done chewing and gulping down some ale to clear her throat so to speak.
"But I can tell yah something, I want to fight. I want to push myself, I want to get stronger, even stronger than she was. She's a rival to me, a beacon of everything I could be and more. And everything she did, every dream I had is something that she achieved. I don't care if I have to fight Yggdrasil himself to prove it, I will be stronger and I will protect the digital world. Maybe not in the same vein that she did but I'll damn well try!"
The shutmon's words weren't slurred even if she had downed three steins at this point, she was already ordering a fourth and had paid for her meal to make the waitress a little less nervous with serving the shutmon. Who seemed to be in her own ideas quite well.
"So I gotta ask you Doc, what are you going to do? Who do you aspire to be? What are your goals?"

"If you inherited one thing from K, it was her potential. You definitely have the ability to get far more powerful than even this form... eventually, anyway."
The cat shared in that shrug. It didn't mean anything now, nor did really relate to the conversation at hand. Silence didn't have much to add to the short version of his story. Rather, she asked how the kids were holding up. To that, the doctor gave a sigh.
"She... she didn't die instantly or anything like that. We had her for a week after we knew that she was going to pass, and that helped us say goodbye in the end. Siris probably took it the hardest, but I had to talk Holly out of trying to 'make you mom' again." He shook his head , giving a small sigh. "They aren't perfect. Honestly, neither am I. But we're coping, at least."
Past that, Silence gave a bit of her own ambition. She didn't want to live in K's shadow - no, she wanted to be even stronger than K. Mikemon found himself blinking at this - such a power fantasy? "... Your ambition is admirable, but it might be better to simply do 'all you can' rather than try and reach for the stars like that. And..."
What did Mikemon aspire to be?
"My goal? My goal is to be the best father and doctor I can be - and K's was simply to make the world a better place for our kids and for Digimon worldwide. She used her power for those ends, and pushed herself right to the very limit to do it."

"She had a lot of potential huh? And eventually? Whatcha mean by that?"
The shutmon tilted her head, she was legitimately curious as to what he meant. If he didn't want to delve she wouldn't press further and would go about breaking off a sizeable chunk from her meal to gnaw on. She'd flick an ear as he told her about how K didn't die instantly. How they had her for a week and how they were able to say goodbye. She'd almost choke at the whole 'make you mom' thing before having to force down the food with some ale. She'd huff a bit and give the mikemon a small chuckle.
"Honestly that would of been really wierd, wake up to find holly trying to prod me into that sort of mindset or something. I'm glad you all got to say goodbye. It must of been really hard. Maybe I can talk to them once I've settled in a bit."
Silence gnawed lightly on a length of meat blinking lightly however when he addressed the fact that her ambition was a little too much. That it might be better for her to do all that she can rather than reach for the stars. She'd point a bone at him flicking her ears to and fro for a moment.
"I got no where to reach other than up and up, why not reach for the stars? Gotta have dreams to make other things reality. Big goals for a big world."
The shutmon hummed a bit, his goal was to be the best father and doctor. Her ancestor's goal was to simply make the world a better place for her kids and for digimon around the world. In fact she went to her limits for that goal. Something that brought noticeable pause to the shutmon, a hand came up to rub at her chin and she'd drain the rest of this stein. Getting another order to follow suit. She didn't seem like the drink was affecting her too badly.
"Real simple goals she had then. Must of been why she was able to push so hard for them."
The shutmon frowned a little bit, running her finger around the edge of the new stein before licking off the foam from her finger with a hum. There was a lot that could be said to that honestly.
"I'm not her. I'll never be her. I was never an innkeeper and I don't even know what to think hearing that I was descended from someone that was descended from some knights. But tell yah what. I'll try to uphold some of her goals and dreams, but I'm not going to have them run my life. As you said she wouldn't want me living in her shadow."
The shutmon wagged a finger at the mikemon, a goofy grin spreading across her face after a moment.
"All considering though! I gotta get stronger before I can even help out a large scope of people, so I gotta train. Gotta fight. Gotta do missions. But I also have to ask. Can I count on you? For more than just a place to rest my head? Cuz even if I can't get stronger than her, I can damn well try to get as strong as her."

"'Eventually' meaning that you can't just up and go mega right now, that's all."
Nothing really to it. Taking a bite of his steak himself, Mikemon proceeded to give a sigh as Silence chuckled at Holly's predicament. "Unfortunately, that could have been the reality a week or two ago. She's our youngest, and bright as she might be, she had it in her head that this might have been something she can fix." He shook his head, and it was clear that this was definitely hard on the poor MeiCrackmon.
Silence's ambition soon proved to be a bit hard to temper, and Mikemon would smirk as Silence gave her response. "Hey, I ain't stoppin' ya." Comparatively, his own goals - as well as K's - were more tempered and down-to-earth. She was able to at least appreciate the Renamon's goals - and even take them on herself - and then came that last question.
Could she count on him?
"I'll do what I can, and that's all I can really promise." Mikemon gave a nod. "I can patch you up, give you tips, give you a place to sit your head down... and, well, Syre's certainly here to help you get stronger. As it is right now, I'm not too much of a fighting type. Not anymore."

"Hmm. I suppose I should focus on getting that no? Gotta push myself."
The shutmon flicked her ears, taking his 'eventually' as more of a challenge than a simple statement. Silence leaned to one side and she couldn't help but sigh softly at hearing that could of been a reality. Was holly really that bright to the point of being able to recreate her mother? The shutmon shook her head a few times and mumbled lightly.
"I couldn't imagine the pain she went through, I can't imagine it at all. I haven't lost anyone like that. But I'm here for her, syre, siris and yourself."
The shutmon gestured with the bone that she had been holding before taking a hearty crunch out of it. Some things never really changed even life to life, she definitely shared that odd quirk with K! It wasn't a surprise though that K's goals and mikemon's were down to earth. They both had ages of experience in comparison to the shutmon.
"I appreciate it Mikemon. I really do. And oh? Well. I'll have to see if she's down to rough house a little bit then."
The shutmon paused at hearing the last bit, biting her lower lip. Wanting to push for information but letting that slide after a few moments. She'd go back to eating, finish her sixth and final stein before setting down the glass, waving off the waitress when she came to refil it.
"Other than those... earlier goals I don't really have much to me. I don't have really much past what I can remember from her life and other things. But I want to make my own life, do my own stuff. And... well. I appreciate everything that everyone's been doin for me, even if it feels... odd."
The shutmon leaned on the table and frowned lightly. Rubbing at her neck after a few moments.
"You said your goal is to be the best father and doctor you can be. But... you already seem to have both of those down judging from the interactions I've seen. You just... fine living a quiet life now? Not that I blame you I'm just... asking."
There was a long dramatic pause and then the smallest barest of 'hic's coming from the shutmon.
"I haven't earned my quiet. She did. I didn't. S'not fair if I do that. Not to her kids or to you or to the people she fought for..."

"And that's all we can ask for."
Mikemon gave a smile, hearing that Silence would be there for them, taking a deep swig of his own mug. He was only on his second, but Silence had been through what, four? His ear flicked at the crunch of that bone - there was just some things that he couldn't get used to! "Heh... I'm sure she is. Lord knows that she's getting too much for my old bones to keep up."
Six steins down, and Silence finally came to a stop. She still seemed remarkably well composed for it. "Well, your goals are more important than trying to remember the history of another - I think, anyway. And its what K would have thought as well..." He rubbed his muzzle against the back of his glove as that next question came.
Was he content living a quiet life?
"... I wouldn't say what I have is quiet. I'm still an active researcher and a medical doctor, and I tackle cases most wouldn't even dream up in their head. You could say my battlefield's on a different front." He gave a smirk - and nodded as she gave that last point.
"... Hm. You holding up?"

Silence chuckled lightly, returning that smile and ordering herself a water att this point. Her ears flicked forward as he admited that she was getting to be too much for 'his old bones' to keep up. The shutmon couldn't help but let out a low laugh and just shook her head.
"I'm sure you're doing fine, sides you got syre n siris to help you out with her too!"
The shutmon snickered lightly and after a few more minutes was actually done with her food too. To him her goals were more important than trying to remember the history of another individual, even if they were the one that came before. She'd tap her head after a moment, snorting lightly at the idea.
"Well I can't help but remember some stuff, so is it bad to be curious and want to know about the stuff your 'ancestor' did? It's not going to be all encompassing!"
The shutmon nodded a few times to herself, nursing that water and blinking slowly as he told her that he was still an active researcher and a doctor. How he took cases most couldn't dream of up in their head. She was curious now and she'd point with a single digit from her water glass.
"What's the strangest case you've gotten that you're allowed to talk about?"
Then came his last question. The shutmon blinked a few times and put that water glass to her lips, taking a small gulp before answering properly. She felt like she could keep drinking honestly but she didn't want to get absolutely slammed on her first stint of drinking.
"Yeah I could probably do a few more, if not the same amount. Just didn't want to get absolutely slammed on a first of what's probably gonna be many dates."
The shutmon stuck out her tongue and gave the mikemon a small wink. She didn't doubt that he'd ask her to come out more often given the chance. Or whenever she was back from missions and such. She thought it was somewhat adorable that he just met her [again] and was willing to do something like this so quickly.
"Cus I also bet you don't want to be carrying me if I pass out or something. This is my resting form even if it's the highest I can manage right now!"

Of course, she couldn't help but be curious! Mikemon gave a nod at that, finally finishing off that second mug and the last bite of his food (admittedly, with the bones still in tact), as he considered that question. The strangest case he was allowed to talk about?
"Maybe the zombie-like insects with the mushrooms... no, no, actually I think I have one better: a spirit wielder managed to merge too close to her spirit and actually have their totem wedge into their data. It wasn't possible to remove it, so I had to find a way to integrate it into their body without obscuring their own data structure too much. It ended with the human having a mechanical arm and leg that they had to maintain."
Definitely interesting, and the cat was certainly only glossing the surface with that. And... huh, the Shutmon was still holding up after all that? He chuckled as the wolf proudly claimed that she was trying to stay reserved six weeks in, Mikemon already feeling the burn after two drinks. And she still even managed to keep herself composed in ultimate!
"Well, its not like I wouldn't be able to carry you," the cat joked, rolling his eyes. "Though we should probably take a portal back, just in case..."

The shutmon scratched at her neck as the mikemon was able to share not one but two interesting cases. Though the former was more of a mention more than anything. silence leaned forward a bit and flicked her ears lightly as the story fell into place. A spirit wielder that had managed to merge too close to her totem, they couldn't remove it and then they had to intergrate it into their body without obscuring their own data leaving the human with a mechaniccal arm n leg!
"I couldn't imagine it changing so drastically like that, Hopefully they're doing well enough. What's this about zombie like insects?"
The shutmon flicked her ears a bit curious to hear more about that one. Wondering to herself how that would of gone out. She'd blink lightly as the mikemon seemed to be surprised that she was still well... standing. The shutmon grinned a little bit and stuck out her tongue at the mikemon.
"What? Not gonna take a few more drinks then call it quits? Eheh. It's all right though, probably a good thing to stop a lil early. I was lookin forward to the walk back, it's not like it's that far to home!"
That and the weather outside was practically delightful for someone like her; the shutmon smiling ear to ear to the mikemon. She was definitely a lot more chipper than k was most of the time. At least on the outside!

"Sheesh, the zombie bugs... this was actually out by the inn. Someone transported a type of mushroom that wasn't supposed to grow there, and it ended up infecting quite a few insect Digimon out there. They became, well, pretty much 'zombie husks' that turned completely violent to anyone in the area. Not a fun time."
The cat shook his head, trying to put that thought behind him. Not only was there a Dokugumon, but also a Digmon that he had to deal with. But, yes, it was about time to call it quits - though Silence wanted to walk back?
"You sure about that? I mean," the cat moved to stand, and even took a moment to test his balance. "Mm, guess its not too bad - the size of the mugs threw me off for a bit. Still, its quite easy to miss seeing the ice on the way back up - especially if the sun starts to set on the other side of the mountain."
Which didn't mean that they had to use a portal: "So if we wanna walk, we better get goin'!"
