Life Is But A Dream - Demon Lords 2E

A cute little bed and breakfast probably wasn't where most Digimon would expect the first blow against a Demon Lord to be dealt. However, slothful problems required slothful solutions. Cherubimon waited patiently as they arranged the room they assembled for the heroes under their charge, humming a merry yet dangerously off key tune to themselves. They glided past the fireplace, turning it from criss-crossed logs to a towering inferno with just a snap of their fingers. They even set up some soothing teas and freshly made soups, putting them on the nightstands next to three well-blanketed beds. Frankly, if it wasn't for the threat of impending doom, it'd make for an amazing vacation spot!
But impending doom was, indeed, threatening to arrive. And therefore, Cherubimon needed to remain ever vigilant. They waved as a golden keyhole materialized in the doorframe, spreading open to make room for Kenny, Alan, and Amaranthus to pass on through.
As soon as they finished waving, they reclined into a resting pose and floated up towards the ceiling. "Alright, alright, I think we all know why we're here today," they said, their high and squeaky voice contrasting quite a bit with the tone of their words. "I'm not like Rasielmon. I don't gotta give you the shpeel again and again and again. But once Bagramon pops the mountain open, a crapton of years worth of pent-up slothfulness is gonna go washing over this place. Pretty sure the whole damn north's gonna be asleep on their feet, if they're not careful. Good news is, that makes my life a hell of a lot easier.
Go on and get in your beds, okay? I'm gonna hit you with a bit of hocus-pocus, and then bail while you're off to dreamland. Trust me, I'm your ticket out of here, so you do not want me getting KO'd on you. Now, I can't say I'm sure what you guys are gonna be seeing in there. All I know's that when Belphemon's got you in his clutches, you don't get out. But that's why you guys get the most important job today. Though I might just be biased, 'cause it's my job.
Once you're in there, I want you all investigating the crap out of that dream. See what it is, why it is, how we can shake people out of it. Maybe even see if you can mess with it a little. Belphemon'd get a kick out of that, I bet. But whatever you do, don't lose yourselves to it, okay? I can pull you out, but not if you're already goners.
Any other questions? Or are we getting this show on the road?" Cherubimon flipped out of their resting position, sparkling dust gathering at the tip of his fingers. He eyed the assembled Digimon carefully, just waiting for his cue to send them on their way.

Amaranthus couldn't help but feel a tad giggly… not only from the irony of taking up a job from an angel, but at the potential stakes that were at hand. A potential blow to a demon lord? What a rare opportunity… almost nostalgic for her, though she couldn't quite pinpoint why. Still, the angels must have been getting desperate if they were willing to employ literal devils to assist them in this charade.
Then again… Amaranthus didn't have that appearance right now. Rather, the headhuntress today was in the form of a petite, feminine humanoid with tanuki-esque features. The Coordemon was not dressed in their usual attire; garbed in a light-pink winter coat (to match the Archangel in question) that was obscenely fluffy, the Champion level had a coy and mischievous smile as she walked in.
What a cozy little lodge though! Certainly a place she'd have not minded spending a few weeks at honestly after this ordeal is over… IF they got out. Cherubimon was not exaggerating that this might have been very dangerous, especially in Belphemon's territory. Despite the stakes, Amaranthus just placed a hand by her hip and winked. "Well, try not to die then! If I get too much beauty rest, I'll end up Digivolving into a Beautymon!" she joked, her raccoon tail wagging.
Possible eternal sleep if things go awry? Sure, lets go with that… she just hoped the humans were willing to take this risk too. Nothing cowardly about backing out now, but there was nothing to gain from sending lambs to slaughter.
No not literal ones.
All in all, Cherubimon got straight to the point. Investigate the dream, find ways to rescue those trapped in it, and possibly disrupt it. A lot to ask for, but five digits spoke quite well to Amaranthus. "None on my end, pink and handsome… Let me just leave for ONE second!" the Coordemon chipperly spoke before suddenly jogging to the bathroom. Running water and the sound of teeth being brushed could be heard briefly before Amaranthus popped out in a set of striped-pink pajamas. "If I am gonna risk the possibility of eternal sleep, I least wanna look good in it. Never know when you'll meet your own Prince Charming ~" she teased as she tossed out a wink (complete with a heart-shaped flare).
Thats just how she rolled.

"A dream catcher?" "That's exactly what this is, Levi." "And you think this is going to help?" "No, I think there's a possibility that it might help. And that's why I bought one. If there's any time in anyone's lives where one of these things might actually help, it's now."
Entering the room now was Alan Pantell, a blonde boy of nineteen years with glasses, a black baseball cap, jeans, laceless shoes, and a sweatshirt over a tee, along with a Veemon wearing a grey ivy cap. The human was wearing a backpack, filled to the brim with all sorts of random objects, one of which was an infini-store, including even more random objects deemed slightly less important to ensure he had. In his hands, sure enough, he clutched a dream catcher, and had no intention of letting go of it. He glanced around at the admittedly adorable setup, set up by an admittedly adorable host. Adorable enough that he felt terrible about getting into bed in full casual attire, shoes included. But if he was about to willingly get trapped in a dream, the last thing he wanted was to get nice and comfy, especially if he would be put to sleep by magic anyway. This boy seemed to have the opposite idea from Amaranthus of getting ready for what could potentially be his last bedtime, though he vehemently denied the fact to keep his own mind at ease.
"No questions. I'm as ready as I'll ever be," he said to Cherubimon. "Oh, and... sorry about the shoes."
With that, Alan got into bed, clutching the dream catcher in his hands, and his partner, Levi, in his arms, holding him as close as possible. Whatever he could do to lessen the chances that they would be separated...
"Don't worry. I plan on this being the most restless sleep of our lives."

Post by Kenny O'Hara and Skadi on Sept 11, 2019 12:27:55 GMT
This was it! The biggest challenge of Kenny and Skadi's KIZNA career had arrived. And while it was situated at what seemed like an ordinary bed-and-breakfast, the scenario itself was pretty much less than ordinary, as this would be actually the centre of their own little mission: to help intervene with and weaken Belphmon. And all located in the normally humble Snowflake Village no less.
Yet, even though he was clad in full KIZNA getup, along with one his dad's hand-me-down snow jackets, and he and Skadi in each of their personalised scarves by Peresphone, there was no doubt one could easily see the nervousness on Kenny's face, and his constant breathing in and out to help him stay calm, constantly mentally reassuring himself that he would be fine and he most defiantely would not die. While Skadi herself was pretty nervous as well, it wasn't as apparent; rather, the Valaismon had put on a brave face, and gripped Kenny's hand as tightly as she could as they walked up to the lodge.
With a sigh as his hand rested on the doorknob, Kenny muttered to himself, "Well, this is it. No turning back now. God I don't wanna die." A very real danger loomed over their heads, and Kenny, not being a Digimon, knew he was putting himself on the firing line with this mission
Skadi looked up at Kenny with a reassuring look, "Kenny, I know you're a bit nervous, and, I'm not gonna lie, I'm nervous too." A hopeful smile emerged on the Valaismon's face, "But we've made it through a lot of things together, without a scratch in some cases. Don't tell me you're gonna turn back now, and go home. I know you're better than that! And don't forget, I'm your partner! Of course I'm gonna protect you, no matter what!"
Those words had resonated well inside Kenny, and he smiled back at his partner, "Thanks, Skadi. You know, if- no, when we survive this mission, maybe we could go out to the Aeterna Cafe for a little treat. Sound good to you?"
"That's the spirit, Kenny!" Skadi cheered, pumping her free fist, "We're gonna get through this together, save the day, and make the entirety of KIZNA, especially Valt, may I add, proud of us! As long as we stick together, we'll be fine! You have nothing to worry about!" She was practically beaming at this point, making Kenny chuckle a little. No doubt that Skadi would be a huge source of optimism where a dark cloud of pessimism, courtesy of Belphmon's influcence was practically looming over their heads.
With that, he and Skadi entered the lodge to be greeted by the sight of both Alan and his own Veemon, Levi, and Amaranthus, in her Champion form, along with the great Angel Cherubimon, who would outline all the details of the mission; everybody would go into their beds, in which he would send them over to Belphmon's dream world to investigate the mysterious realm, save anyone who was trapped, and possibly to even screw around with it a bit. Nothing more, nothing less; Cherubimon had laid it all out on the table for them, no need for questions.
"No, we're fine, Cherubimon." Kenny answered, still trying to breath in and out to stay calm. "We, Kenny and Skadi of KIZNA, will ensure that the people will be safe, and get to the bottom of this."
"Don't you worry, we'll be back before you know it!" Skadi added in a more confident tone, happily saluting her superior with her free hand. They would then walk over to their respective beds, and throw themselves in there. Skadi didn't hesitate to wrap herself and her Tamer inside the blankets, before immediately snuggling up to Kenny to keep warm.
Normally, in any other situation, Kenny would be a little embarrassed, having his partner spontaneously hug him without warning, but this was not the case here. As a kid, his mum would often come to kiss him goodnight, as a way of scaring off demons and monsters supposedly living under the bed and hiding in the shadows, and after she died, he had to get his dad to reassure him instead, but since Skadi was his own partner willing to protect him from actual dangers, Kenny reciprocated the hug, holding his partner tightly and hoping for the best.

The humans seemed far more nervous about this mission than their Digimon counterparts. Seeing Alan clutching his dream catcher and Kenny catching his breath in and out left a small, pensive frown on Cherubimon's face. Meanwhile, Levi was rising up to the task of being a pillow like a champion, Skadi was bringing as much confidence to Kenny's plate as she possibly could, and Amaranthus? Well, she was picking outfits just to color coordinate with Cherubimon and plan for her beauty sleep. It was clear that some of these participants were more comfortable than others. Nevertheless, whether wary or excited, everyone had stepped up to the plate.
"Hey, come on," they said, warmth melting into their otherwise rough voice. "You guys're gonna be okay. If I don't make sure of it, Rasielmon's gonna. And if she can't, Bagramon will. And if none of us can? Oh, Ophanimon's gonna raise hell for you guys. So, trust me. You're in a lot of good hands today." With that said, he aimed his finger at each of the bedridden heroes like a gun, saying a little "Pew!" with each point. Sparkles showered down from his finger, just a sniff of them capable of knocking a human or Digimon out for the night. Everyone's world would go black . . .
A sudden jostling motion would spur the sleeping quintet from their reverie. Hooves pounded on uneven ground, and wooden creaked and groaned in protest with each sudden movement. Were those present to open their eyes, they would notice that they were haphazardly piled onto a wooden cart of sorts. A ShimaUnimon, its head lowered drowsily and its body painted white from the snowfall, pulled the cart away from what looked like Terabyte Mountain in the distance. However, Terabyte Mountain looked somewhat different. A pair of horns curled back from its snow-capped peak, and a few missing patches of snow left the impression of a bestial face looking down on the world below. It seemed more rounded than usual as well, less like a standard mountainous point and more like an oversized hill. The skies surrounding it were grey and morose, with sheets of snow seemingly frozen in mid-fall.
A Mojyamon, face tinged blue from the frost and eyes heavy with bags, peered down at the quintet. He looked like he had been through a lot, but had seen some recent treatment and cleaning. It was a pity. Perhaps if Sloth hadn't been awoken, he may have had the chance. "Hey, you. You're finally asleep, huh?" he asked, a smile pulling itself across his face. "Seems like you didn't resist for long. Still look as comfy as the day you were born. But, perhaps that's for the better. The Unimon tells me we're going somewhere where we don't have to worry anymore. Somewhere that we can find peace, and calm."
The carriage continued over a small, frozen hill; once this peak was cleared, a bustling city was visible in the heart of the tundra. Spires of ice stretched higher into the sky than any of Terminus' buildings, even as they pointed themselves in a variety of improbable directions. An aurora, frozen in mid-shimmer, hovered above the city like a curtain of light. Gargoylemon, locked behind chains and stony skin, stood imposingly at every entrance to the city. Most of them seemed to be reaching for something, but didn't move a muscle.
"We should be there in a few minutes. Welcome to the rest of your lives."

Was Amaranthus worried potentially? Nah... They had some powerful allies, and she liked to think Luminas was somewhat competent at least. Angels are mostly trustworthy at least in her eyes... when they weren't being racist to Virus Digimon. The Coordemon did her best to try to ignore the tender sweetness tween the tamers and their partners (even if it wasn't as stark as say Mephistomon X, she was uncomfortable with actual affection) before burying herself in the covers as Cherubimon left them to their fates...
Being awoken (at least in the dream) by the cold was not exactly something Amaranthus was terribly fond of... She was back in the more standard attire of Coordemon, but this didn't help too much to fend her from the cold of this imaginary version of the Northern Prominence...
Yup. This was definitely dream country... and big and ugly had his very presence grafted on the dreamy landscape. Of course, that didn't explain much how and why they were on this carriage now... then again, dream logic. Amaranthus was willing to shoulder that belief that things didn't work 1:1 here like they did in the waking world, though judging from the Mojyamon's expression... there WAS one constant.
Eternal rest. Supposedly at least.
"I'm a light-sleeper. Girls like me gotta rest to keep my skin nice and supple." the tanuki giggled, withholding info at least of their true intentions here. No point to arousing suspicion here as they didn't know who their real enemies were right now. For all they knew, Sloth's minions could be listening.
Their destination however was not something equivalent to the real world... a dreamy, aurora-lit city of ice greeted them off in the distance. An impressive sight, but there were implications being set off in the raccoon's mind as she idly created a warm coat to put on through her form's abilities. "... A city of dreams...? I suppose if you are stuck for an eternity, you'd want at least a good place to live... Though I'm sure we'll be up in no time." she pluckily mused (feigning ignorance at their situation), though soon turned her attention to the humans... placing a finger by her lips and making a zipping motion, as if to stay quiet.
She might have been a bit of a giggly individual normally, but she couldn't afford to underestimate what was to come. Patience was key, alongside masking their intentions until they were positive they had a grasp of the situation. She gazed at the Mojyamon with a bit of a snarky look to her as her ears twitched, vapor from the warmth in her breath lighting her face. "So what about you big lug? How'd ya end up here anyway? Face-first in the snow maybe?" she snickered.

"Thanks, Cherubimon…"
Ah, powder. Why did it have to be powder? Alan was expecting a quick spell to put him to sleep, and he supposed that's what this was, put he hated having to breath stuff in, in concept, at least. You have to breath eventually, and, in this case, breathing in was an important part. It was part of what he signed up to do. But still... he held his breath.
And held it.
And held it.
Until he was choked, his lungs stuffed full of nothing.
With a sharp gasp
Alan "woke up" somewhere, and that was all he needed to know, before he threw himself to his feet in a semi-acrobatic fashion, stumbled by the motion of the wagon. He patted himself down, making sure he had retained his belongings, and brought fist to open palm, surveying his surroundings, before another thought brought his attention down again.
"Levi!" he shouted, picking up his friend and partner, fixing his hat atop his head. "Sleep down, Levi! We're in!"
"We're in?" repeated the Veemon, drowsily, wiping the wakefulness from his eyes. Once the other passenger finally started speaking, the two began to chuckle uncontrollably. "Did someone tell ya to say that? Eheh, never mind, it's not important."
Calming down, the pair finally took some stock of their situation, and even noticed the unfamiliar party member's motion to keep quiet. Alan frowned, and sat down, turning back to the Mojyamon. "Somewhere we can find peace and calm, huh... sounds nice... " The human boy would smile a little and stand back up, while Levi climbed up and stood on his head, as if to look out over the horizon. Defeating a nightmare was about attitude. "It'll be even nicer when we burn it to the ground."

Truth be told, Kenny wasn't exactly consistent with his sleep patterns. He normally fell asleep at night and when he was very tired. Then again, normally he wasn't sent to sleep by magic dust by a giant pink fluffy rabbit-come-angel so he and Skadi could enter a nightmare realm created by a giant hellbeast, but at least Cherubimon's encouraging words did put him at ease a little bit. In no time at all, the second our dynamic duo took a whiff of the magic fairy dust, the second they were dozing off.
In what felt like no time at all, Kenny and Skadi would find themselves wide awake on the cart, and merely sitting next to each other in the bitter cold, their scarves still intact, along with Amaranthus, Alan and Levi, as it rattled on through the hills. And neither could ignore the dour feeling wafting throughout the area, from the giant horns looming over from Terabyte Mountain, and the dreary mood of both the cart towing ShimaUnimon and the weary looking Mojyamon in the cart.
"So this must be the nightmare realm..." Kenny muttered as he looked around him, before eyeing the weird mountain, "Gotta admit, I expected it to be a little bit more... y'know, scary?" Deep inside, he knew that this would be the calm before the storm; a prelude to what would be one of the biggest challenges of their lives, but Skadi pet his hand reassuringly.
"Kenny, I want you to know this. No matter what happens to us, I'll stick with you to the very end. You don't have to worry about a thing, OK?" She told him, snuggling up to him to keep him warm and nuzzling him, as per Ophelia's suggestion, "It's gonna be fine, we're gonna get through all this together." Kenny could at least feel a small sense of optimism building up inside him, as he chuckled a little bit and pet Skadi affectionately, scratching her chin a little bit as well.
Speaking of, the Mojyamon would then talk to them for a bit, telling them about their current situation, and how it would somehow lead to 'peace and calm'. 'Peace and calm'? Despite the collected, possibly resigned tone in the Moyjamon's voice, already alarm bells were going off in Kenny's head at full blast. As they were pulled along, the two could spot the dazzling city from afar, turning to take a look at the gleaming structures putting the Shining Seas' crystals to shame, the aurora above, and the Gargoylemon guards. And apparently, they would be living their for the rest of their days.
As much as he wanted to bolt out of the cart right there, wanted to beg and scream about wanting to go home several times, in reality, he knew it would be in bad form. Skadi would once again hold onto his hand and squeezed it to help him boost his morale, if even slightly. Amaranthus and Alan had already given their inputs, so Kenny could at least chip in and throw his hat into the ring, "OK, that sounds good," He nodded, pretending to be nonchalant about the situation himself, "so can you please tell us what you know about this city? It sounds good at least."

The realm's three newest denizens had very different reactions to their current predicament. Alan was all too excited to arrive, kipping up like an acrobat and cheering about how he made it. Kenny, meanwhile, looked like he was being carted over to an executioner, muttering about how they had entered a realm of nightmares. And then there was Amaranthus, who played both her awakening and her lively appearance off quite coquettishly. Perhaps a more awake and aware Digimon would be a little suspect of their divergent reactions, but Mojyamon was neither of these. Instead he simply listened to what each had to say, letting out an affirmative grunt afterwards. "You're a strange sort. Travelers, I'd guess," he said. "Those of us who live by the mountain wish we could be so rested."
It was a perfectly natural segue to Amaranthus' next question. "It was gradual for me. Day by day, I grew wearier. No matter how much I slept, I couldn't feel rested. And each sleep grew longer and longer. It was to the point where I had to stop sleeping, or else lose a day or more to it," he said. "The past few weeks were a blur. I remember warmth. Comfort. Visitors. But then, before I knew it, I was being nudged awake by the Unimon. It's safer to come with them, they say. There are beasts in the tundra, but they know better than to approach the city.
. . . So, yes. You could say I was face first in the snow." A small, vaguely amused grin spread across his face.
With that, he turned to Kenny. "If we are in a world of nightmares, the city is our reprieve," the Mojyamon said. "It's where things make sense. Where they feel like home. To leave is to risk yourself to chaos, to beasts, to nightmares. Inside? We may not have much, but at least we have each other. Or, so the Unimon tells me. I must admit, I'm just as new here as you were. Were it not for my companion here, I would be just as lost, too."
Alan didn't have a question. Instead, he just had a statement, and quite the alarming one at that. Mojyamon's jaw fell in shock, but before he could say anything the world seemed to freeze in place. Or, rather, the cart and all of its participants froze in place. The world continued spinning beneath their feet, the cart gliding effortlessly atop it. A mountain appeared in the horizon, distant at first but rapidly spinning towards the group. If they still couldn't move, would they crash into it? Or would they just phase through it, just as they remained unphased by the world revolving beneath them?
They wouldn't need to answer that question. Reality seemed to slingshot forward. One minute the mountain was looming over them. The next, the world had stopped spinning and their cart was at the city gates. Mojyamon wasn't disoriented in the slightest. In fact, he spoke casually to a pair of Gargoylemon standing by the gates. His voice sounded like static, as if talking in a language Alan, Kenny, and Amaranthus weren't allowed to understand. The Gargoylemons' heads nodded in understanding despite their bodies being frozen, and the ShimaUnimon dutifully turned so that they could get a better look at the party. They spoke so slowly that their question seemed to dribble out of their mouths.
"Who
Are
You?"

Alan nodded in understanding with each bit of information the Mojyamon delivered. "Oh, man..." he began, somberly, "that sucks to hear. Whoever did this to you must be-" his head would snap back to facing the direction of the mountain behind them. "-a REAL BIG JERK!" Just then, the dream would finally start acting like a dream and go haywire on them, and the human felt it was safe to assume there was a direct correlation to his remark. He wouldn't lie to himself - the vision was jarring as hell, and he loathed the feeling of being deprived of control over his body for so much as a split second. Moreover, it was disquieting, yet not quite surprising, that Belphemon was able to do that. This was his nightmare world, after all. It may be his world... thought the tamer, ...but it's still MY dream.
Quite unable to respond to the vision to any satisfactory extent, Alan would content himself with smiling and sticking out his tongue in the direction of the mountain, along with a hearty "bleeeeeeh" noise. Levi saw this, and amusedly did the same.
He briefly pondered over his answer to the Unimon's question, pushing his immediate thought of "your worst nightmare" out of the way. He would lean forward and look the Unimon in the visor, clearing his throat. "Hello there! I'm a visitor. I'd like to speak to the manager. That is, if the manager isn't already speaking to me."

A gradual and acknowledged eternal sleep… It seems it had plagued the yeti much like a disease. To be fair, she would blame the guy. This was the influence after all of an EXTREMELY powerful demon Digimon, so it wasn't like your average schmuck could resist their influence that easily. "Wonder how the waking world is handling… A little bird told me something that likely means this world is gonna get a lot more crowded." she mused, her smiling waning slightly.
Even for someone like her, she had to admit that this perspective was a lot. She was a sadist and overall a sociopath, but she only liked causing pain to those who clearly deserved it.
Scary or not, they really could not let their guards down. Kenny had all the reason to be somewhat anxious, and even her own cold heart felt somewhat sympathetic. "Don't fret too much. I consider ya an associate, so it's on my honor if I let you guys down. Thats a devil's promise." she ended sweetly speaking. It might have sounded a bit ungenuine coming from her, but she was trying at least.
Alan was an interesting guy… she had initially assumed him to be fairly mild-mannered, but there was it looked like a wild child inside him. Arson while sounded fun (albeit against her standards usually), the suggestion came out of left field. The world itself seemed adverse to that, suddenly afflicting the group with a case of whiplash that was enough to make the tanuki girl a bit dazed. "... Ugh. I would like to at least go three minutes without suddenly feeling the need to blow chunks." she weakly spoke, though quickly regaining her senses.
"Amaranthus. Professional monhunter, assassin, and part time fashionista. You might have heard of me." she snarked, reaching into a vest pocket and pulling out a business card that she unceremoniously skewered on the ShimaUnimon's horn. "Tell your friends ~" she teased, shooting some fingerguns at the eerie Champion.
Compared to Alan, the Coordemon was a bit more… pragmatic about speaking to the ShimaUnimon. For one thing, these things were clearly off… and while she liked Alan's style, they were poking the hornets nest WAY too quickly. Rule of thumb… never piss off hornets without a good escape route. "As for me? Nothing to do with the crazy four-eyes. I was just on a romantic evening date with handsome over here ~ " she lied as she grabbed Kenny's hand, playfully tugging it… albeit not before tossing a wink at him.
Okay yeah, she was adlibbing here… but whatever she could do to try to and throw off suspicion for the group. She'd have to buy Alan maybe a beer or something after this is over… wait, didn't humans have like underage drinking laws? Ehhh… not gonna think too heavily on that one… Not now.

Post by Kenny O'Hara and Skadi on Sept 13, 2019 10:43:35 GMT
Kenny and Skadi listened intently to the Mojyamon answering the group's questions. If anything, they knew that, by him being aware of his situation, they could get to the bottom of this. Apparently, according to the not quite abominable snowman, he gradually succumbed to his condition over time, before ending up in the nightmare realm, before explaining what he knew about the icy city; it was meant to be a permanent home for those who found themselves trapped there. Figures, Kenny thought as he nodded to the Mojyamon in understanding, Skadi leaning over to get a better look of the stumpy furball, I wouldn't be surprised if Belphmon or any of his cronies built the city to lure the victims into a false sense of security.
"Yeah, that does sound pretty good," he told the Mojyamon, 'agreeing' with him, "Ammy's right, if everyone here's really going to be stuck here forever, at least somebody here had the decency to actually build a safe haven for all of us, at least."
Skadi slowly raised her hand to talk, "Actually, I hope that when we do get to the city, the food will be good at least. I mean, you can't exactly run a city on an empty stomach, you know?" She added, playing along with Kenny's previous comment.
Speak of the she-devil, Amaranthus would also reassure Kenny as well, promising not to let them down. Kenny couldn't help but give a genuine smile, while Skadi nudged him encouragingly with a grin. They had a very powerful, and dangerous, ally and friend on their side, but before Kenny could actually thank her, Alan would make quite the colourful comment that caught the Mojyamon off guard, and he and Skadi wince a little.
So much for acting casual, at least...
Before anybody could say anything, like if it was reacting to Alan's comment, everyone, including the duo, would be thrown into a loop, the cart going crazy and even what looked like the giant mountain literally about to ram into them. All the duo could do was hold onto the cart and try not to fall off, screaming all the way. But as they ended up near the gates, Kenny could only slump against his seat, moaning a bit, while Skadi leaned against him, trying to reorient herself. How the scarves remained on would remain a mystery for the ages.
Apparently, the Mojyamon, much to our duo's confusion, not only seemed unaffected, but was now completely incomprehensible as he talked to the Gargoylemon guards. But as for the ShimaUnimon, the one they could understand? "I'm Kenny, and this is my Digimon partner, Skadi the Valaismon." He introduced themselves, as Skadi gave out her signature joyful wave at the zonkey.
"Nice to meet you, pal!" She chipped in, hoping to leave a good impression to ShimaUnimon.
In turn, Amaranthus and Alan would also introduce themselves to ShimaUnimon, but after Alan's next comment, the Coordemon seemed to try and dissociate himself from one of the 'crazy four-eyes'. But he didn't need to ask what she meant, as she quickly grabbed his hand and claimed to be dating him, before giving him a wink.
Well, this got embarrassing quickly. Kenny could feel the blush covering his entire face right that very second, and even Skadi couldn't resist a cheeky giggle. But, yes, while he wasn't exactly a genius or even well versed in romantic relationships, especially not with cute flirt-happy tanooki women, he wasn't an idiot either. He knew what Ammy meant.
"Uh, yeah." Kenny stuttered a little bit, his face burning in embarrassment, "Ammy here is a really sweet lady when you get to know her. When we first met, she was very kind to me and my friends, helped us out when we were in a pinch, and we've actually gotten quite close to one another." While he was indeed playing along, Kenny's words weren't exactly a lie, all things considered; he did seem to actually care for the Mephistomon X.
"He hates to admit it in public, but he really loves Auntie Ammy with all his heart." Skadi cheeky commented, playing along with the lie, "It's like if these 2 were actually made for one another. I'd think they'd make a great couple if they ever get married!" She nudged Kenny playfully once again. Part of it was Skadi's friendly teasing at Kenny's expense, making him blush further, but part of it was her actually executing the Mephistomon X's bluff and help make it look more convincing.
That Valaismon sure had a way with words.

ShimaUnimon looked at Amaranthus, then at Kenny, then back at Amaranthus. One of its brows crept up its forehead, and its jaw winched down in surprise inch by inch. Either it was processing its surprise in agonizingly slow fashion, or it was putting on a long, drawn-out mockery of it. Nevertheless, its gaping mouth started to curl into an ear-to-ear grin.
"Enjoy
Your
Honeymoon."
With that, it turned back to the Gargoylemon and began speaking to them in the same, staticy language that Mojyamon had spoken before. Its words were every bit as long and drawn out as they were in Japanese, the buzzing only getting worse with each passing second. Even Mojyamon had his fingers crammed in his ears by the time ShimaUnimon was finished speaking. The digital yeti cautiously pulled his fingers out of his ears, as if making sure that ShimaUnimon was done, then asked a few questions of his own. The Gargoylemon were all too quick to respond, stepping aside to let the cart in.
ShimaUnimon stepped foot inside the city gates, and not a single inch further.
"You're.
Good."
As soon as it said these words, it closed its eyes, tipped its head back, and let out a deep sigh. It faded from sight, from horn to hoof, and within seconds nothing was left but dangling reigns. Then, shortly thereafter, the cart itself vanished. Mojyamon was standing on the ground as if nothing had happened, but were his traveling companions slow on the draw they would fall right on their asses.
At least now, as the Gargoylemon slammed the gates shut behind them, the trio had arrived in the city. The first thing of notice would be that, aside from the ice spires and the great wall, the city didn't have much in the way of infrastructure. The only monmade structures to be seen were small huts. Some resembled igloos. Others resembled log cabins. A few were just holes dug in the ground with tarps stretched over them. Despite their differences in design, they all had two things in common; none of them were bigger than a single room in size, and they were all barely stable enough to hold themselves together. Clearly, structural integrity was not a priority of those living here.
"If you're looking for the manager, small one, I would look to the skies," Mojyamon said. "The Unimon told me this town's leader is at the highest point of the highest spire. From there, he says, he can keep an eye on the monsters down below. You may have seen his handiwork earlier." Suddenly, Alan would have the distinct memory of great crossbow bolts snicking out of the snow, each the size and thickness of a pine tree. It was as if he had passed by many of them while trudging by the snow, walking for what felt like eons as his legs burned beneath him.
Minutes later, he would remember that this clearly hadn't happened. And yet.
Meanwhile, the smell of hearty pie wafted over from one of the smaller looking shacks. Mojyamon perked up as soon as he noticed it, turning to Kenny and Amaranthus. "I think this might be our chance to sample the food around here," he said, before a sly grin spread across his face. "Unless you'd like some private time to explore the city together. It's alright. I don't judge." With that, he trudged off towards the source of the smell. Whether the others were coming or not, the poor guy was starving!

Alan covered his ears quite quickly as well. This stuff couldn't have been good for the mind in any way, shape, or form to listen to, supernatural or otherwise. He and his partner were already standing straight up when the cart disappeared, so they dropped to the ground with a little thud, a little bend of the knees, and a little "unf."
As they walked inside, Alan looked back on the closing gates and scoffed. "Hmph. Naturally." He had calmed down considerably now that the symbolic object of his hatred within the dream of his hatred was no longer in clear view. While he, too, wished to explore the city, but he wasn't too keen on letting this Mojyamon lead him everywhere. He despised the complicit, among other things, even though he knew it was Belphemon's power making them as such. Nevertheless, he begrudgingly admitted, the Mojyamon had information he wanted. He nodded thoughtfully as he received the answer he asked for. "Right... I was wondering what all those were... thought they were downed utility poles or something."
"Hm...? What, you mean, like, trees?" Levi would lean in, confused.
"No... no... that's not right." The human boy would push a finger into each eyebrow. "It was that thing... when you're dreaming, and you remember something you've dreamt before... which almost never actually happened. I hate it when that happens, but... even if it's not my memory, I feel like there must be some truth behind it. A memory of someone else, or even of the land itself."
Alan didn't plan on eating anything, but had to follow the Mojyamon for a bit longer. He still had more questions, but before he followed, he would look upwards and scan the skyline, to check for the spire being talked about, or perhaps a spooky face peering down at them. If he were to find either, the latter would likely be found first, if he was getting a feel for some of the mechanisms of this place. When he was satisfied he had found, or satisfied that it would take longer to find it than he thought, he would continue along to continue his inquiry.
"So this leader you mentioned... does he by any chance promise safety from the beasts you were told were outside? And more importantly..." Alan would get that glint in his eyes again. "...does he ever... "misfire?""

Kenny and Skadi at least hit the nail on the mark when it came to playing along, but the expression on the Coordemon's face at the mention of marriage suggested that despite all her flirting... even SHE had her limits to what she could tolerate. Amaranthus's face lit up slightly, stuttering briefly at Skadi's comments to try to complete the lie. "Err... Yeah. He's my snuggle...bun."
She was gonna have to get wasted once this whole venture was over with.
On the plus side, they seemed to at least avoid too much a ruckus with the guards... they vanishing before their very eyes. Illusionary Digimon? Even though Amaranthus was relieved, she was still cautious. If anything, this was just a taste of what Sloth was capable of doing... This world was under HIS jurisdiction, and they were houseguests.
To no surprise, the conditions of the city were atrocious it seemed for the general populace. Coupled with the cold conditions, Amaranthus was not at all eager to stay here any longer than she wanted to... which to say the least was not at all. "Sheesh... I'd take my chances in Fragment Village's slums than here honestly." she muttered under her breath, briefly breathing into her hands to keep warm.
So what was Alan's deal? She didn't remember anything like what Mojyamon was talking about, yet now they were talking like they recognized it... It increasingly-clear that something was off. "They do sometimes say that dreams are prophetic... reflections of our fears, desires and fate... The question is, what do we make of it?"
The supposed leader of this town had her suspicions already. A proxy of Belphemon's to instill fear and weaken the morale of his victims potentially? It seemed like a typically demon thing to do... offer false hopes and then crush it...? This city could be possibly just a giant pen for them all, the "monsters" and guards meant to keep them coralled. Then again, this was just her own untrusting nature. In this world, she wasn't sure she could trust anything with just her eyes alone. "Seems that resources are slim... Do we even know what even is out there in those woods? Feral Digimon or something?" she mused towards Mojyamon.
Well, she doubted they'd get too much info from him. They'd have to go find someone whose been here for much longer if they wanted a bigger picture. "I think we'll just try and relax honestly. You know, chat and try not to freeze our asses off." she ended up apologizing to the yet, glancing over to her allies.
