It wasn't that Nereid hated being hugged, she actually loved hugs. What she disliked was being more or less unable to properly return them. "Yep." Titania agreed with Joker. "It...happened." Nereid sure as hell looked proud of herself for making the second or third time she's digivolved be solely just to hug someone who she was fairly certain deserved such affection.
What the Ranamon was not prepared for, however, was Yuko eventually breaking down in her arms. That took her completely by surprise, but she had at least...some idea of how to act here...? "W-Well, that's...that's okay. Not everybody can be strong all the time, Yuko...I mean, my family has their moments of weakness, but...they all support each other. Heck, I'll support you. That's what friends do, right?" The Ranamon managed after a few moments of incredibly awkward, hug-filled silence. The fish-frog-woman moved a hand to pat Yuko in an attempt to comfort the teenager. "There, there..."
She was trying, at least.
Naoko whispered right back to Joker. "She might...Has today really been going so fast for you guys?"

Nereid kind words of comfort seemed to have a positive effect in relieving Yuko from her stress. At the end of the day, she was just a teenager forced into an otherworldly scenario that no sane human being would know how to deal with. It was only natural that she would have a breakdown eventually. “Thank you…” The hooligan girl managed to mutter after her sobbing had died down to an acceptable degree, as she hugged the Ranamon back, trying to ignore how weird it felt to touch her rubbery, fish-like skin.
“I suppose it’s been a rough couple of days for her in general. I’m sure you know how unforgiving the Digital World can be to unprepared humans. She didn’t even have any clothes when she first arrived here… which is hilarious, but also sad.” Jokermon replied to Naoko, while leaning on the armrest of his own beach chair. “Call her crying childish, but what is a teenager, if not a slightly taller child? Fear of the unknown, anxiety and uncontrollable hormones are the perfect recipe for a big crybaby!”

Nereid wasn't sure what to do here, but her first response to a crying girl in her arms seemed to help her calm down some. Nereid nodded at Yuko and continued to hug her. "No problem! We're friends, okay? I'll happily be strong for you when you can't be strong for others." Regardless of how much sense that made, Nereid seemed quite assured of her own words.
Naoko meanwhile raised a finger at Joker's words, but lowered it. Fact of the matter was, as...blunt as the clown had been? He was right. Yuko was definitely unprepared for what was described to Naoko as a rather weird few days in another world. Any human would have good cause to break down because of this stuff. Titania on the other hand, she could actually talk about this.
"Teenagers do get overtly emotional rather quickly...Naoko's not immune to that, so no wonder she and Yuko seem to be good friends. They do need a break every so often, though..."

This was definitely the weirdest hug that Yuko had had in her admittedly short life, but it felt oddly nice. The reassurance that she and Nereid were friends who supported each other helped the punk-dressed teenager calm down significantly. Eventually, her sobbing quieted down completely and her breathing went back to normal. “Yeah, we’re friends… thanks…” She said as she broke the hug, sniffling and wiping the tears and running makeup from her eyes.
Meanwhile, Jokermon was frowning deeply at Titania’s words. “She WAS taking a break, but then your daughter went and reminded her of her mama and made her cry! I swear, you people are impossible to work with!” The Clown Prince replied, crossing his arms in front of his chest in a very haughty and arrogant manner. “That’s not right.” Yuko interjected. “Seeing Nereid-chan and her mother being so close just reminded me of my Mom, but it wasn’t her fault that I cried…” She explained, patting the Ranamon’s shoulder and flashing a weak, yet genuine smile at her.

"Mhmm!" Nereid might have been internally panicking a little at this whole thing, but the fact Yuko calmed down so significantly within a short frame of time helped to reassure the Ranamon a little. The thought that she did a good job at fixing a mess that she might have had a hand in crossed Nereid's mind for a moment, and she glanced at Joker pinning the blame on her.
There was silence from the Ranamon, and she did look a little hurt at such a claim. It was then that Titania finally spoke. "Yeah, how dare my daughter go and remind someone of their mother. And I'm not impossible to work with. You don't even know me, Nereid, or Naoko, you clown." The sarcasm was about as prominent as hecklers in the aftermath of a tournament fight, really.
"...C-Can we please not fight? Yuko even said this wasn't my fault..." Nereid spoke up, look more than a little timid at what was unfolding at the moment. "Gonna have to agree with the mermaid on this one--This is ridiculous..." Naoko muttered.

Jokermon scowled so deeply at the fairy monarch’s insults, his facial features distorted themselves in a most unsightly way; His cheekbones and nasal lines became very prominent, while his face was filled with ugly wrinkles. “Excuse you! I’m not just any clown! I’m a Clown Prince!” Yes, that was the part he was offended by. Who know he was so sensitive about his own branding.
“What Jokah is TRYING to say is that he’s worried about me as much as everyone else.” Yuko stepped in the way, so to speak, before this minor quarrel between Digimon with big egos could turn into a bona fide brawl. “But I’m fine now, thanks to Nereid-chan. In fact, you’ve all been very helpful and… I couldn’t thank you enough.” The young hooligan added, smiling at everyone present. It might have looked like an awkward smile, but it was one of genuine gratitude. “Now, can I please rest without my friends fighting and without being reminded of what a mess my life is?”

"And what's a prince to a queen, huh?" Titania stuck her tongue out at the clown prince, after giving a fanged scowl towards him. Thankfully, this hilariously tense situation was quickly defused by a combination of Yuko and Naoko alike. "How about both of you quit making royal jackasses of yourselves, please?" Naoko didn't so much as plead as she asked them both to lay off of each other firmly.
This, plus what Yuko said, made Titania back off with a 'hmph!'. Nereid, meanwhile, gave Yuko another pat on the head. "I'm really sorry to hear your life's like that...But, since we're friends, I'm gonna do my best to help you through this messy life, okay?" She returned that genuine smile with one of her own. It seemed like the exceedingly tall frog girl was dead-set on being good to her new friend, more than anything!

“Hah, royal jackasses! I should’ve come up with that. No offense, Jokah.” Yuko laughed at Naoko’s comment, even going out of her way to reach out to Jokermon and tap his shoulder to let him now that she didn’t hold his jackassitude against him. “Hmph! None taken.” The self-proclaimed Demon King huffed, wearing his pride on his sleeve as always, yet having enough dignity in him to not unfairly lash out on the equally prideful fairy queen.
After another comforting headpat from the tall Ranamon, the teenage delinquent felt significantly better, enough to put all of her anxiety and worries behind her for the time being. No doubt this wouldn’t be her last breakdown, but it was reassuring to know that she had reliable friends on her side to support her in times like these. “All’s well that ends well, I guess… Anyway, you two have been partners for a while, right? Do you have any cool stories to share?” The greener Tamer asked Naoko and Titania, yawning as she lied back down on her beach chair.

"Well, you have it for later now at the very least, you know?" Naoko snickered. It was rare that she managed to say something that one could actually find humorous, but when she struck true, she also happened to strike gold, huh? Either way? Situation defused. With flying colors, probably!
Nereid meanwhile seemed pretty elated that she had managed to calm Yuko down, despite her apparent ineptitude at handling situations such as this one. It sort of signaled that...maybe she wasn't so hopeless when it came to interacting with others. "Aaaas well as I can help it end." She stated as she finally released poor Yuko from her clutches, and opted to sit in a chair herself. "...I wish I had a pair of those cool shades you see on TV, they'd be really neat right now." The Ranamon mused to herself.
Did they have any noteworthy stories to share? Well, there was a few. "Hm. First time I ever came here, I found out my sister was also a tamer with a Meicrackmon following her around. Ate some damn good sushi that day. Another time, I went with the Field Club in her place to go explore the Sunken Elysium--Basically a seabound town, and saw some neat stuff. Titania met her girlfriend there, too. Though I've also had to prevent a fire from breaking out at the Great Moving Library because some dipshit Raguelmon threw lightning allover the place and caused shit. Which is...a long story." A pause.
Should she tell her about the desert incident?
...
.......Probably not. "That's all I've got off the top of my head, really."

As Nereid wished loudly to have a cool pair of shades to put on like certain crime investigators on TV, Jokermon looked at her with a straight face, before nodding and pulling a pair of sunglasses seemingly outta nowhere. “There you go, little one. Just make sure you don’t leave any messy handprints on them.” He said, handing them over to the not so little Ranamon. Had the crafty jester kept them hidden inside his sleeve all this time, or was this one of his many mundane magical abilities?
As for Yuko, she quietly listened to Naoko and Titania telling them of their various adventures together. She almost dozed off, not out of boredom, but because hearing their stories was just that relaxing. “Wow, you’ve been through a lot together… sounds nice…” The greener Tamer yawned again, trying her best to keep herself from falling asleep, just so she could hear more. “A Meicrackmon following a human around and a Raguelmon running amok. Those darn cats are everywhere!” Jokah mumbled under his breath. He wasn’t a big fan of the Meicoomon line apparently. Then again, who liked those unholy abominations of nature?

Nereid stared at the pair of sunglasses that Jokermon had pulled out of seemingly nowhere. Such a trick was only a legend to her, and yet...the jester had just...done it. Huh. Neat. The Ranamon was never one to question such things, so she simply donned the shades right then and there.
"...This feels pretty cool."
Ignoring the fact Yuko was yawning (Naoko chalked that up to relaxing after being put through so much stress), the blue-haired tamer nodded. "Yeah, a lot can happen in just a year here..." She began before trailing off. Titania seemed to hear Jokermon, though. "They're not all bad--there's a few good ones, but they're so few and far between..." the fairy murmured.
Naoko glanced around, before she stood up. "Wanna get going to the Trailmon station? I think I can tell you a few more stories on the way there. It's a decent walk, so I'm pretty confident in my storytelling."
"...But do we haaaave to walk...?" Nereid asked aloud.

“Yes yes, you look very ‘cool’. I’ll have them back now.” Jokermon frowned, leaving Nereid all of five seconds to enjoy her newly acquired shades, before taking them right back and stuffing them into his purple coat. A seeming act of kindness followed by the equivalent of stealing from a literal kid. He really was a villain! Well, they were his glasses to begin with, but it was still pretty mean, right?
He was apparently pretty prejudiced too, since he immediately denied Titania’s claim that not all members of the Meicoomon line were that bad. “Bah! There’s no such thing as a good cat among their ilk. I’m a Demon King and even I consider them utterly rotten! Your child should learn that while she’s still young, and so should you, Yuko… Yuko?”
Turning to his side, the evil clown would behold the curious, yet strangely wholesome sight of Yuko sleeping peacefully as an angel. “Huh… I knew she was tired, but I didn’t know she was that tired.” He mused in a low voice, blinking his single visible eye in bewilderment. “You people feel free to walk ahead to the station. We should probably catch up to you in an hour or two.” The self-proclaimed Demon King said to Naoko and her company, before conjuring a blanket out of thin air and laying it on top of his sleeping Tamer.

Did Jokermon just pull that on Nereid? Yes, yes he did. The Ranamon blinked as the shades were taken right back. It was hard to tell if she was genuinely hurt by that or not, but knowing Nereid, she didn't really think all too much of it. They -were- technically his to begin with.
"...I'll get my own someday, promise."
Meanwhile, with Titania? "...My experiences say otherwise. Can't really call them the scum of the earth when such things as Shoutmon and Arkadimon exist." ...Why Shoutmon? Either way, both Digimon finally noticed that Yuko had fallen asleep. Naoko also took note of that and shut her trap, silently nodding at Joker.
"Alright. Keep her safe, Clown Prince." She uttered towards the Jester as she took her leave, waving Titania and Nereid along. The former swiftly flew after her tamer, but Nereid lingered for a few moments longer. "I'll see you two later. Please have a safe trip to the station!"
And then the rather tall Ranamon ran off, leaving Jokermon with Yuko.
