Starmon was always a bit of an oddball. Panthermon's words were downright 'out of his mind'. First, they met him and he challenged them to a game of Digimon Card Battle-- which Zachary won. Then he became a sore loser and started lobbing meteorites at them. Then after they had decided to pay him a visit, he was still grumpy at them... till Zachary offered a helping hand.
One thing led to another, and now Zachary and Panthermon worked at the store Starmon owned. Panthermon hated it, even now as the two walked down the streets of Terminus on their first day. "I cannot believe you agreed to have us do this..." Panthermon growled as he prowled forward, his head hung down in distaste and bitterness. "Why in the world would we work for that star-shaped nutcase!"
Zachary looked down at his partner, unsure why he was in such a foul mood. " He isn't that bad," he replied casually with his hands in his pocket.
"He isn't that bad?!" Panthermon snarled, looking up at Zachary as if he too lost his mind. "The guy blasted us with meteors for losing a silly card game, then gave us an issue when we tried to help him-- and is so driven by the promise of bits he would sell his own mother to make a fast buck. For a star-shaped Digimon, he is really shady!"
Zachary rolled his eyes and sighed. "Okay, so maybe he didn't give the best first impression, but who does?" Zachary said, trying to be positive. "Look, we helped him out when we didn't have to-- and guess what, he offered us a job-- at a Digimon Card Store of all places to. Think about it. If we work there, we make some bits. We need money, and also if we work there, we can learn and be able to buy some of the best cards in the Digital World. This will help us out on real missions greatly." Zachary explained, showing the cards they already had. While he had collected a good deal of them, there were still others he knew he could get.
When it came to card games, Zachary had divergent thinking that allowed him to form combos and strategies in these kinds of games very easily. When he learned he could use those cards to help Panthermon fight, then just be on the sideline, he worked hard to learn how they worked and practiced with Panthermon to try new combinations.
Panthermon still was not at ease as he wandered. "Grrrr... I just don't like it. I'm a warrior. A guardian of darkness. And I'm reduced to clerk work." the cat argued softly.
"Quit being such a sour puss," Zachary replied, "A digimon has to eat right?"
"Speak for yourself... I'm not like some naive rookie stomach-first child---"
Grumble...
Zachary stopped as he heard the rumble come from Panthermon and he stopped. An embarrassed look came to the cat's face as he realized he was caught feeling hungry... Zachary smirked, realizing his partner finally was in the rare mood that he wanted to eat.
"You were saying?" he asked.
"Shut up... Let's just go. You made your point." Panthermon caved and walked on without any further complaint.
Starmon's Card Emporium looked much better since they last met him. The shop outside was much more colorful with an awning, and the window had a number of decals on it with different famous and powerful Digimon. As they entered, the tables were all set for people to play. In fact, a customer was already in there-- a giant looking monkey with a pair of sunglasses and a teddie bear strapped to his side as he looked over a pile of cards.
Zachary entered and held the door open for Panthermon as they walked up to the counter, empty. "Um, Starmon? You here?" Zachary called out.
"THAT'S MR. STARMON TO YOU!" a voice barked from the back of an open door at the end of the shop.
Panthermon grumbled as he looked around. Though still early in the day, and since reopening, he didn't expect many people to show up.
Finally, Starmon came out as Panthermon gazed at the glass case with all the different cards. "Ah, I'm teasing ya! You can call me JustStarmon. Get it? Like a sheriff of justice... Haha!" he said in a very poor joke. Panthermon grunted and Zachary just kept quiet as he waited. Realizing his joke stunk, Starmon cleared his throat. "Anyway, never mind. Okay and now... for your uniforms."
He pulled out a light blue apron from behind the desk and showed it off-- revealing a logo of Starmon with a thumbs up, wink on his 'face', and a series of cards behind him, along with the line "Starmon's Card Emporium" in Digi code. Zachary tried not to make a face but it was easy to tell the image was not the most flattering to wear.
"What a heliocentric attitude for a Starmon..." Panthermon quipped cleverly.
"Say what?" Starmon asked, the comment going a bit over his head.
Luckily, Zachary raised his hands up to dismiss the cat's comment. "Ah, nothing. It's nothing. Thank you." he said and took the apron.
"And for you..." Starmon tossed another one-- which looked like a cape on Panthermon as it was easily draped over and the cat now wore it-- grumpily.
"Joy..." the cat replied. "Um , before we start, is there any food here I could have before I start. You know, working on an empty stomach?" he tried to excuse himself.
Starmon blinked down at Panthermon. "Hmm... I got some Digi-Donuts in the back, and that is where you can work for now. I want you to organize the back as best as you can. You know, push boxes around. Stack--" Starmon stopped as he looked at Panthermon, realizing a cat-beast type digimon might not be able to lift and organize boxes with no thumbs. "Um..."
"For a star your not very br--" Panthermon started,
"Hey!" Zachary quickly interrupted. "Tell you what, Panthermon. I think I can help us out. I'll cover the register and deal with the customers. You can eat a bit now, and when your done... you can Digivolve to MaloLeomon so you can do the work. That should be okay, right?"
Panthermon looked surprised by that suggestion and looked to Zachary. "Um... you sure that's such a good idea? Putting a 'rageaholic' form in a back room stacking boxes when I'm already a bit..." Panthermon replied.
"YOu'll be fine." Zachary said calmly. "Remember what we talked about. Just eat, calm down first, then take a try. You only really lose your cool in battle right? " he assured him.
With a grunt, Panthermon gave in. "Okay... Just give me a few minutes to take my time eating, then I'll get to work." he said and prowled into the back room.
"What crawled into his litter box?" Starmon quipped sarcastically, only causing Zachary to whince. "Anyway, glad to have you here, buddy! Now, remember service with a smile! Be helpful and do your best to answer questions they may have. " he said with a wink to him.
A nervous laugh came out of Zachary as he tossed on his apron-- which looked oddly good on him. "Yes, sir! I'm on it." he said with a smile.
Thus began the interesting yet mundane adventure of Panthermon and Zachary's jobs as card shop employees...
