Like Mother, Like Daughter [Mika & Moms]

Parents, the one thing in life you couldn’t choose… Yuko was all but dragged to the mall on this lovely Sunday afternoon by none other than her biological mother! Although they were related by blood, there must have been some kind of glitch in their genetics, because while Yuko never cared about wasting her time and money in malls, Hana Himura - who looked like the spitting image of her daughter in terms of appearance, only aged up by about twenty-five years - was her seeming polar opposite in terms of personality: A tender-hearted housewife and an incurable shopaholic!
“Now now, Yuu-chan, don’t make that long face…” Hana said, smiling affectionately at her precious girl. “Having a bit of retail therapy is an essential part of a young woman’s coming of age.” “Yeah, so you keep telling me…” Yuko sighed, hanging her head down. “But why does Mika’s mom have to tag along too?” “I found her on social media and we became friends. I asked her if she would like to go shopping together someday, and it turned out she had an opening today. She should be here any minute now.” Hana explained. “You’re just hoping that she’ll pay for the expensive stuff you can’t afford yourself, aren’t you?” The girl eyed her mother suspiciously. “Heheh… maybe~” The older woman smiled guiltily, sweating ever so slightly.

Parents, the one thing one couldn't choose, and Mikazuki Nakamura wouldn't have it any other way, considering the wonderful parents he was given. Unlike his two best friends, he didn't have any trouble whatsoever with his parents (new year incident notwithstanding) and the lap of luxury did wonders to quell whatever urges the boy-giant could have gotten.
And amidst those urges, was the idea of accompanying his mother to the mall, where they'd meet up with Yuko's relative, Hana Himura, who Kaede deemed worthy to meet in-person at the mall.
Now, truth be told, while she was looking forward to having some girl time, it would be a lie to say it was her ONLY goal in this venture.
As doting as she was with her baby boy, she had neglected to do a background check on Yuko, as any parent would do! Now, to be fair, it wasn't going to be used as the means to judge Mika's girl pal in any way, considering she already proved her loyalty by standing up to Soichiro (which was a plus in her book and endeared her to the girl), but perhaps it WOULD help her figure out if there was a way to salvage Yuko from a life of the darker side of society.
As shrew as her motivation was, however, there was also the basic motivation of spending time with her sunlight beam of a son, who, with some difficulty, left the car looking positively ecstatic. "Wow, it's sure packed today." the blonde lady noted unsure of herself while Mika was busy looking around for Yuko. "Ah, don't sweat it, mom! It's Friday! I heard it's normal for it to be packed on weekends! Plus, I'm sure Yuu-chan's mom will be fun to hang around!"
"You do have a point, dear!" She concurred with a smile, only for her hawk-like eyes to detect a piercing-ridden girl in the corner with an older version of herself in tow. They seemed to be at complete odds with each other. Yuko's tomboy attitude contrasted heavily with Hana's peppy, upbeat demeanor.
And it was something she wanted to test out. "I think we have our girl, Mika!" she pointed in their direction, nonchalantly holding her wide-brimmed hat as her son sprinted and tackled the Himura delinquent in one of his famous bearhugs, yelling "YUU-CHAAAAAAN!" to the high heavens, just as the much more polite Kaede closed in. "Well, this is one way to find someone, wouldn't you say, Hana-san?" the lawyer lady chirped, approaching the two girls with a much more dignified saunter and a kiss in each of their cheeks. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you in person, dahling!" came the greeting, coupled with a few kisses on the cheek and a killer smile as the wife of Soichiro Nakamura scouted the older woman, nodding discreetly to Yuko as to communicate what she was doing to her.

Whilst waiting for Kaede to show up, Yuko thought she heard a very familiar, very excited and very loud voice screaming her name, and turning to the source of it confirmed her suspicion that Mika was there too, and he was coming for her! Call it advanced reflexes thanks to having many adventures in the Digital World, or call it her simply being used to Mika’s shenanigans by this point, Yuko was prepared this time; She swiftly dodged the bearhug, moving to the side and giving the energetic boy-giant an affectionate tap on the shoulder. “It’s good to see you too, Mika!”
Mika’s mom also made her presence known, giving Yuko and her mother the Western-inspired greeting of kissing each cheek. “Uhm… Hi, Mrs. Nakamura.” The younger girl blushed slightly, not expecting such a warm greeting. “It’s good to meet you too, Kaede-san.” Hana was more relaxed than her daughter, kissing the other woman back. “I have to say, you look stunning, dear. I especially love your hat.” “Don’t listen to her. She’s just hoping that you’ll let her borrow it.” Yuko jokingly warned Kaede. “I was not!” Hana said all defensive like.
Shrugging, the young delinquent turned back to her gigantic friend. “Yo, Mika. What are you doing here anyway? Don’t you have better things to do than shop with your mom? Like lifting weights with your badass, former gang member dad?” She winked, while gently elbowing the boy’s sides. Apparently even her opinion of Soichiro had changed since the New Year’s incident.

Kaede shook her head as her son almost fell to the ground as the pierced-face girl dodged him (quite deftly, she might add), a small smile on her face as she did so. Effortlessly, however, the high-profile woman was able to grab Mikazuki by the collar of his shirt and set him back on his feet, before focusing on the older replica of Yuko standing before her, complimenting her hat.
"Why, thank you! both the hat and the dress were my mother's Christmas gifts from last year!" the blonde woman explained, pulling the brim a bit more diagonally. "She said I walked around in suits too often and it was time for a change, so since i met her for tea earlier, i decided to please both her and myself for once!" The smile adorning the lawyer's face got a little too wide at that. Mikazuki noticed and called Yuko to the side, whispering in her ear. "That's Grandma talk for "Either you stop dressing like a man or you're not invited to the family tea any longer."
The clarification was lost to the Nakamura Dame when Yuko brought up Soichiro's background, as well as an aversion to her mother's more normal behavior. Interesting... so the two of them are completely at odds AND she knew of their little family background. She looked at Mika for clarification, who shook his head. "Nope! To me, spending time with my mommy dearest is just as fun!" And cue bear hug, which Kaede took without hesitation. "D'aww, you're too much, Mika!" she happily cooed, letting go while pulling Hana to the side.
"Now, dear, shall we? That store won't open itseeeeelf!" she singsonged, dragging her along as Mikazuki followed without question

Hana nodded as Kaede informed her that both the hat and the dress were actually Christmas gifts from her mother. “I see. Your mother has excellent taste then. However, you look like the kind of woman who would look good in a suit too, unlike me.” Yuko frowned at the mention of suits. “The only way you’ll put me in a suit will be in my funeral, and even then my corpse will get out of the casket and slap you in the face!” There wasn’t enough time for her dark humor to be appreciated, as Mika quickly pulled her to the side, confiding in her about how his grandmother had essentially forced his mom to wear this. “Damn… I wouldn’t wanna mess with your grandma.”
Aside from that, the Nakamura scion was happy to announce that he loved spending time with his mom. “D’awww… See? Mika-kun still hugs his mother even though he’s grown up.” Hana pointed out to her own daughter. “I hug you too… sometimes.” Yuko objected, looking away nervously.
The older Himura was soon dragged along by the arm by an eager Kaede. “Indeed, it’s shopping time!” She agreed with a wide smile. “We should visit that new boutique that opened recently. I want something ladylike for my sweet Yuko, but also something modern and fashionable that still plays to her strengths.” “Can we not?” The young hooligan pleaded, while reluctantly following them.

"Oh, don't you worry about Yuko-chan. I have some ideas in mind." Kaede replied, winking at Yuko with the intent of communicating her to just go along with it. "But why settle only for her? We should spoil ourselves for a bit too! Since it's your first time going with me, I'll even take the tab for one dress of your choice!"
Despite not appearing to be a reason for the generous gesture, there was a method in Kaede's madness. Knowing how Yuko's mother acted so far, it was clear she was a vain woman in stark contrast to her daughter, who despite her tastes, was still fairly modest by comparison. She was one hounded by gold diggers at times, so this was the way she chose to see how much worth her time Hana was while also saving Yuko the trouble.
Either she'd decline and show herself a woman of pride and respect; pick something modest, which would imply she would not like to be a burden, or in the worst case, pick the most expensive dress possible and prove there was nothing to her sans self-interest.
Likewise, Mika followed eagerly, glancing at Yuko and, not minding his mother's presence, asking a rather... peculiar question. "So, Yuko-chan, how's joker-chan holding up here in Shibuya?"

A faint blush and a grand smile graced Hana’s countenance at the other woman’s offer. It was as if this was everything she had ever wanted and then some! “Oh my, would you really do that for me, Kaede-san? This is such an honor! This is going to be a difficult decision, since there are so many dresses that I’ve wanted to buy for a long time.” She was already contemplating all of her different choices. Her joy over this was nothing if not genuine. “I think we should have something like a price cap. You don’t wanna overcharge Mrs. Nakamura, right Mom?” Yuko kindly reminded her mother. “Right, sorry. I got carried away…” Hana admitted with a nervous smile. Though she was kinda materialistic, she wasn’t motivated by greed. “Would a limit of 10,000 yen sound fair?” She asked Kaede.
Mika’s question about ‘Joker-chan’ was answered by the older of the two Himura’s, surprisingly enough. “Oh, you mean Mr. Jack White? He’s doing lovely. He has fully integrated into our culture.” “Mooom!” Yuko protested. “What, Mika has a friend that’s just like your Jack, doesn’t he?” Hana said, her wording indicating that she might have known more than she let on.

"Oh, absolutely so!" Kaede concurred, noting that Yuko saw right through her. Clever girl. No wonder Soichiro had been wanting to take her to the main firm at some point. Looks could be deceiving, she supposed. Still, the fact Hana didn't put up a fight also intrigued her. The woman did have a materialistic streak, she supposed, but perhaps even then it could be no matter. She was already proving to be a funny company, at the very least.
It was only when Mika gave a thumbs up to the explanation that the Nakamura Matriarch understood what he was talking about. Leave it to Mika to not lie to mommy dearest, after all! She knew all about Jokermon and his (allegedly) mean streak, but that also reminded her of something else she did NOT want to remember right now.
The bunny.
That crass, patronizing, intolerant zealot of a bunny Mikazuki brought home and that she had to contain the urge to use as target practice every single day. Oh, the cute exterior did not trick HER of all people. Noooooo sir! That creature was only safe due to being Mikazuki's friend and it knew it

Right as this was happening, Lopmon sneezed.

"Why yes, Hana-san!" Kaede admitted, eye slightly twitching. "Mikazuki got himself a new pet too! What was he called again, dear?"
The response was an instantaneous "Lopmon, but I call him Lop-Chan!"
"Riiight. Lop-chan." Normally the use of the female honorific for a male would have bothered Kaede, but in this case, she didn't mind it in the slightest.

Yuko’s look of worry directed at her own mother for saying more than she should have about her friend ‘Jack White’ turned into one of utter bewilderment directed at Mika’s mother for confirming that she did know about her son’s pet. “Y-you know about Lopmon… I mean, Lop-chan?”
Conversely, Hana was only slightly surprised by Kaede’s choice of words, specifically at calling Lopmon a pet. “A pet? Does this Lop-chan look like an animal then? That’s so interesting! Mr. White looks like a clown, or at least he did that one time his Hollow Suit thingy malfunctioned Is that what it’s called?”
“It’s called a Holo-Suit, Mom, and Lopmon is Mika’s pet bunny.” Yuko explained with a sigh. This discussion was getting in awkward territory, but it was clear that all four of them were talking about the same thing. “Can’t we just… talk about something normal for a change? You know, like people usually do at malls?”
Hana smiled warmly at that, ruffling her daughter’s colorful hair a bit. “Yes, you’re right, dear. We’re here to make you look pretty, so let’s focus on that for now.” The single housewife then turned back to the Nakamura matriarch, smiling at her as well. “Lead the way, Kaede-san!”

Mikazuki nodded like the little ray of sunshine he was and followed along while Kaede quickly regained her composure by taking deep breaths and picturing Lopmon tied to a wheel while she had her closet of shoes opened, all shoes in it sharpened and ready for the throwing match of the century.
"Please, let's do that!" Kaede said a little too enthusiastically, eye still twitching and fist clenched as if ready to punch something.
Mikazuki stopped mid-sprint as he noticed everyone was lagging behind him and looked in worry at the group, particularly at his mom. "Is anything wrong, mommy?" he asked, catching the lawyer out of her sinister plans for his pet and prompting her disposition to change from murderous glee to normal glee as she waved away his concerns. "Of course it is, dear! Mommy's just had a bad memory pop up. Nothing to worry about! Now, how about you and Yuko-Chan hurry on ahead while Hana-san and I do a little window-shopping?!" The question was accompanied by the Nakamura matriarch grabbing Yuko's mom a bit too roughly and stringing her along.

The two mothers left their kids on their own in order to allegedly do some window-shopping. Of course, Yuko and Mikazuki weren’t just kids anymore. They were almost adults at this point, perfectly capable of looking after themselves without the need to be under constant parental supervision. Really, Yuko was more confused by how abruptly the two women had left, but in the end she shrugged it off as their quirky way of giving their kids some ‘alone time’. After all, her mother had this bizarre idea that she and Mika were somehow an item.
Stuffing her hands into her pockets, the strikingly-dressed punk girl walked alongside the pampered Nakamura heir, thinking of things she could bring up in order to break the ice. “So… how’s life? Things have gone kinda silent since Junpei moved outta town, haven’t they? It happened out of the blue too, but the army did transfer his dad to another country, so I guess they didn’t have much choice on the matter…”
Meanwhile, Hana Himura was being dragged along kinda roughly by the Nakamura matriarch. “Ow, ow! Kaede-san, you’re hurting me. What’s wrong?” She asked worriedly.
