Different spots meant different sorts of fish right?
The sort of place dictated what you could catch, closer to the shore meant smaller fish while further out meant you’d catch larger stuff but had to also deal with the dangers of deep water fishing. The sort of fishing that this particular mon didn’t exactly want to go and do. But she knew without a doubt that’s also where the best catches would come from… if she had any idea how to get out there. Which she didn’t.
While she was the most comfortable in her keramon form, for today she wanted to try something different. So the long gait and sturdy steps of her antylamon form was what would be making it’s way down the beach with tacklebox in one hand and a sturdy looking fishing rod in the other.
Though like every time she went out as of late, she seemed to run into people of one sort or another and this time was no different. Off in the distance she noted that there was a EbiBurgamon and… well a Keramon? She hadn’t met another of her kind in a while and the rabbit mon perked up a bit.
Though before she really.. Approach them they seemed to already have some fish? The antylamon raised a brow and stepped forward only to find that the other keramon had turned into… a wizard? The rabbit mon blinked a bit but didn’t stop herself. She was after all a good distance away.
By the time she arrived, the two were already eating whatever they had caught but that didn’t stop the rabbit mon from giving a big wave with one of her ears seeing as her hands were filled with the tacklebox and fishing rod! She seemed particularly happy at the idea of meeting two new people even if they were stuffing their faces at the moment...

Despite Ebi's attempt to dismiss the compliment, the fact that the food is delicious and Higgs enjoyed it doesn't change. Maybe Ebi is trying to be humble, or he lived in the environment where the competition is high so no matter how good he tried to be, all he got were constructive critics to step up the cooking game. Well, every professionals have that pressure, and sometimes it affected their psyche and made their view about the food's worth a bit changed. That's pretty understandable.
"There's nothing wrong with fast food! People love fast food because it's delicious! But i do believe... we have to eat them in moderation. Eating too much will make you sick, anyway..."
By the time Higgs finished speaking, he's already at the third plate. Did he even chew the fish before swallowing it? It's quite bizarre that Higgs still managed to speak normally despite eating that much of a platter in such a short time.
"But my point is... even if you think it's not good enough. It's already enough to make me smile! I mean, not even roasted meat and soups that i made were this good..."
Maybe Ebi heard that from the others many times. But Higgs is trying to assure Ebi that everything he said was not just a formality. It's a genuine happiness that he ate this seaweed and fish platter. Shame that there are no condiments to accompany. Unless Ebi have some inside his magical hat.
But then, before Higgs asked Ebi about condiments, he somehow detected that there's someone approaching. A big presence. As Higgs turned to the source of the sound, he saw a tall rabbit, carrying a box and a fishing rod. Perhaps they are here for fishing trip if judging the sturdy, seemingly high-quality fishing rod. With hands full, one of the tall rabbit's ear waved at the small group. As if saying hi and asking whether they can join or not.
"I guess we have an extra mouth to feed, Ebi. They could help us finishing these fishes!"
Higgs then waved back to the big rabbit, and signalling her to come over. Hope they like fresh sashimi with seaweed.

Higgs reassured the poor little EbiBurgamon that there was nothing terribly wrong with fast food, as long as it was taken in moderation just like everything else in life. The young cook still didn’t take praise well, but it was nice to hear such kind words from his newfound friend. “I know it’s delicious, but… Master Cookmon says that fast food is for amateurs, and that most other Burgamon he knows are only good at cooking fast food.” Ah, so that explained his aversion to it. He was an impressionable kid, and his mentor’s stern values had been imprinted on him, for better or for worse.
Speaking of having all good things in moderation, Higgs was having none of that, having already finished his second plate and grabbing a third one. “Mister Higgs, you’re eating way too much! If you keep eating like that, your tummy will hurt…” Ebi warned the glutton of a Wizardmon, but froze in place as soon as a big, menacing Antylamon approached them.
“H-h-hello! We have a lot of fish… p-p-please have as much as you want!” The little shrimp burger exclaimed, hiding behind the Wizardmon and clutching his robe, almost like a child clinging to its mother’s apron.

The large rabbit managed a rather big and friendly smile; her ear coming back down to rest nicely next to it’s head. Though at being signaled to come over the large rabbit perked a bit. She wasn’t expecting them to invite her over but she wasn’t the sort to turn down that sort of thing. When she got close enough she’d set her tackle-box down and the large fishing rod next to it. Using the sand to make sure that it stayed upright, last thing she wanted was it to get lost in the sand by mistake!
The antylamon leaned a little to one side as the small EbiBurgamon spoke to her from behind the wizardmon. These two were digimon that she had never seen before but they were friendly and that meant it was okay!
The large rabbit would hold up a pair of fingers and gesture at them, she would only take two of the fish and after a moment she’d gesture to her fishing rod. She was okay with taking some only if she got to replace the ones she took. The large rabbit wasn’t comfortable just taking someone else’s catch without paying them back somehow!
She’d then take a moment to sit cross legged near the other two, not super close but definitely close enough to where she could listen to any conversation or make motions to them if they asked questions! She’d take a bite out of one of the fish, flicking an ear as she considered something. With both of her ears she’d make a curious motion and then gesture to the two of them, making a little fishing motion followed by a wrenching motion.
She hoped they understood that she was asking them if they did this for a living or not, if they didn’t it wasn’t any real loss on her part. Then again… with them being in the range of whitewater the likeliness of that was actually pretty high!

The large rabbit is surprisingly calm and composed. But of course, the difference in size is really something, especially when up close. But despite that, this rabbit would like having just two servings. And Higgs picked up the gestures quickly. As if, this rabbit mon is speaking... in sign language? This rabbit probably a mute, and use gestures to convey their message. Interesting. Possibly this rabbit is not deaf, just mute. If deaf-mute, it will be a problem in the communication department.
"Oh, by any means, just take the fishes. We made a little too many for ourselves, so we would be grateful if you can help us finishing up the plates. And you can keep yours."
Higgs tries to be a bridge of communication between Ebi and the rabbit. He waits for what the mon will say next, observing every single inch of their movement. If you can't hear their voice, you have to be observant with any small details they made.
The hand motion, to be honest, is a bit difficult to understand if there is no knowledge of sign language beforehand. But seemingly this rabbit is asking whether they did the fishing or not? Or maybe somewhere along why they do this.
"Hmm... we do this because we happened to find washed up seaweed. And we just happen to meet by coincidence. So it's just... happened. Haha."
The Wizardmon paused a bit, before taking another plate of fishes and tries to confirm his assumption of the rabbit mon.
"Oh yes, i'm sorry i have to ask this. But are you perhaps... mute? Something is wrong with your vocal program and you opt to communicate with gestures instead. I have to say that's really interesting!"

Ebi did not understand the Antylamon’s sign language, certainly not as well as Higgs did at the very least. If anything, the fact that this towering, red-eyed rabbit couldn’t speak only made them scarier in the poor Burgamon variant’s eyes. Yet, upon closer inspection, their gestures were very lively, and they seemed pretty friendly despite their size. “Are you a friend? If you are a friend, we will share many fish with you. Mister Higgs caught too many for us to eat alone.” The young cook confirmed.
Well, that was definitely the plan regardless of whether the EbiBurgamon gave his blessing or not. Still, recognizing Antylamon as a good guy (or girl) helped the little shrimp burger relax, leaving Higgs’ side to stand a bit closer to the giant rabbit, certainly within the reach of their very long arms. “Are you mute?” Ebi repeated the Wizardmon’s question. “How do you make friends if you can’t talk? How do you let other people know that you like them? Are you alone? Do you feel lonely?” He was just a kid at the end of the day, and like a kid he curiously asked a bunch of questions that arose from the fact of Antylamon’s muteness.

The antylamon tilted her head slightly as the other confirmed that they had cooked too much, caught a little bit much. So they’d appreciate the help in finishing up the plates; the rabbit smiled and nodded her head. Shifting to nibble on the two servings she had taken. If that was the case she was pretty sure the three of them could put away everything they had caught and made.
That and it seemed that their entire meeting was by coincidence! Which was nice but also hard to really focus on without being able to speak. So the antylamon nodded a bit at that statement. She understood what he meant; but that was certainly a friendly meeting if they decided to fish and do some cooking from it! It reminded her a bit of the first time she ran into Malik. A rather charming but quiet Lopmon she had met some time ago.
Then of course came the question she probably should of expected; she’d blink a few times and slowly nod her head. Shifting a little bit in her seat as she gestured to her throat, then to her head and then to where her core may be. She didn’t know if it was something wrong with one of those three locations so that followed suit with a shrug. Though with the guess at the communication she’d nod again; giving the other a small smile at the compliment.
Ebi didn’t seem to understand her completely, which was fine! She’d just have to be slower with her motions. Upon being asked if she was a friend the large rabbit chuckled silently and nodded her head. If she wasn’t a friend why would she sit here and ‘chat’ with the other two? Wouldn’t she just attack?
The EbiBurgamon parroted the query that the wizardmon posed, the large rabbit tilting her head a bit and giving a firm nod. Then came some more questions, How did she make friends if she couldn’t talk? How could you let others know that you liked them? Was she alone? Did she feel lonely? The antylamon blinked a few times. Each question was somewhat rough to answer but… The antylamon reached out slowly and rather gently would [if allowed] pat the EbiBurgamon on their head; giving the other a small smile.
She wasn’t really able to explain the first two so she’d give those a small shrug before making a small rolling motion with her hands and tapped at her own head. It was something some people just figured out on their own most of the time and if they didn’t? Well it wouldn’t really be a terrible problem she figured. On the two latter questions she’d have to consider them carefully.
A small nod followed by a tap at where her core was but it was quickly followed with a bigger smile and she made the motion of a book opening before shaking her head at the second question. She was alone yes but did the Antylamon feel lonely? That was a definite no. There were always mons around for her to interact with even if it was in bits and pieces.
Though a small part of her yearned for companionship it didn’t engulf her like it had in the first few days of her life. She had gotten used to people coming and going. The real good ones always stayed around and interacted with the Antylamon. Which allowed for a warm, cheerful smile as the rabbit worked on her two servings...

As the big rabbit mon confirmed the situation, it became clear for Higgs. Especially, when Ebi asked rapid-fire questions like a machine gun. Well, can't be blamed. Ebi must be pretty curious just like Higgs. In fact, although he had helped his master teaching a mute Digimon once, now he have experienced it without any guidance. Since most of the time this mon used sign languages, probably it's worth the shot to confirm if this mon is literate or not.
"If you don't mind, i want to ask something."
Higgs snap the fingers on his right hand to summon one of his collected book data. This time, he pulled out two books. One is a supposedly secret recipe of fried chicken, written in english language, and the other is an old piece of newspaper written in Digimon alphabet. He picked those to specifically confirm if that rabbitmon knows human and Digimon language.
Regardless of the ability to read or not, Higgs thought to use written language to communicate with the rabbitmon. Sometimes gestures are lacking in the clarity department. It'll be a win-win solution that Higgs can understand what the rabbitmon trying to say, and the rabbitmon gained another way to communicate!
"Do you understand what's written here? If you understand, can you write just one word written in these papers?"
Higgs said as he offered the rabbitmon those two papers. Shame he has no pen, though.

The Antylamon responded to the duo’s questions with more sign language, as one would expect at this point, pointing at their throat, then their head and finally to their chest. “I don’t get it… Does your throat hurt? Do you have a cold? Is that why you can’t speak?” The little EbiBurgamon asked, tilting his bun-shaped head in slight confusion. At least they were definitely a friend, which is why Ebi was only somewhat frightened when the Ultimate-level’s massive hand descended towards him, only to pat his head. “Hehehe~ You really are a friend!” The kid giggled in response to the head-patting.
It was then that Higgs got an idea to circumvent their slight language barrier, manifesting two books out of thin air and asking the mute Antylamon if they could read either of them, as well as asking if they could write one word written in these books. “Do you even have a pen, Mister Higgs? Oh, I know!” Ebi said, as he picked a small branch off the ground, which he then offered to Antylamon. “You can use this to write in the sand.” He suggested.

The antylamon tilted her head slightly as the wizardmon wanted to ask something. The large rabbit blinking a little bit as they pulled out a pair of books. She had seen those before, passing by a few stalls in whitewater and some store that focused on them. They had a lot of books that she could read if she had bought them. But with not much to her name she decided a fishing pole and some tools for it would be better.
Then came another question. One that made her blink a few times. She’d nod her head slowly to the first part but… She’d make sort of a baffled expression at the idea of writing something. Even going so far as to point at the book, then her eyes and then give a thumbs up! She’d then take the motion of writing but then sort of scratch her head. She knew how to read but not to write? What a strange conundrum…
Then came the questions from the EbiBurgamon. She’d shake her head slowly and make a motion to massage her throat. How to explain muteness to someone that didn’t understand her motions? She’d make sort of a confused face and shift in her seat. She didn’t know what to motion to this. Or how to explain that she had always been unable to speak?
Then Ebi got the idea of using a small branch off of the ground to write with. The antylamon blinking as Ebi offered it. She’d stare at the branch and slowly take it; sort of looking between it and the ground. Her expression shifting to that of concern as she really didn’t know what to do. She had never actually been taught how to write. She bet if she had a teacher she could of… but most of her life thus far had been just stuff she figured out on her own.
Maybe given enough time she could learn herself. The large rabbit looking clearly distressed at the idea of having to figure out something to write. She’d lean down to draw something in the sand. It was a rather sloppy version of her looking very confused and holding either book that the Wizardmon had pulled out.
It kind of looked like something a five year old would draw...

At first, Higgs is pretty enthusiastic when the big rabbit read the paper as if they understand it very well. But maybe it was too fast for him to be excited. As Ebi proposed to write it on the sand, the rabbitmon apparently decided to draw a picture instead. Although it's sloppy, Higgs can understand that there are two possibilities: 1.)The rabbit is unable to read 2.)The rabbit can read but does not know how to write the words. The Wizardmon decides to pull another book from his data repository, after another plate of sashimi. Needs extra energy for something that haven't been done since long time, you know?
"I guess i got to do this to make sure..."
Actually, Higgs found the method to somehow access the Digi-core of any Digimon, either by brute-force or if the other party lets him access it. And then he can either copy their knowledge, or have his knowledge transferred over to them. But that method is still susceptible to errors, and might cause anything undesired by the other party. So this time Higgs decided to do it the old-fashioned way.
"How about you read this? You don't have to write the words, this time. You can draw on the sand if you want to say something."
Surprisingly enough, the book is... something that looks like that ABC book made for toddlers. But Higgs thought this would be the best method for the rabbit to understand written communication. Higgs gave the book to the rabbitmon. Should the rabbit open the page, it consists of all the alphabets in Human and Digimon Language, associated with simple words and objects that everyone is familiar with. Hoping that the rabbit would able to write their words soon.
"Oh, also, you can keep the book. I have the original book here."
As his right fingers snapped, the same book appears once again. This data repository and manifestation skill is really handy. Just like Ebi's burger hat.

The young EbiBurgamon looked down with great anticipation, eager to see what shapes the mute Antylamon was going to draw on the sand, as random, disorganized squiggles slowly turned into a coherent picture. “Wow, is this you? This looks so pretty!” It really wasn’t. It was a truly horrendous drawing, but Ebi was a cook, not an artist. He hadn’t cultivated the artistic taste to tell apart a good painting from a bad one.
Regardless, the conclusion was that Antylamon didn’t know how to write. Teacher Higgs to the rescue! By producing a very simple book from his data repository, the Wizardmon took it upon himself to teach the giant rabbit their ABC’s. Meanwhile, Ebi kept himself busy by picking up any plates the two hungry Digimon left empty. He would need to clean those sometime later, but for the time being down into his bottomless hat they went. “Master Cookmon taught me how to read and write when I was just a TorikaraBallmon. It’s easy once you get used to it.” The little shrimp burger said, smiling at Antylamon.

The antylamon tilted her head a little bit and blinked slowly at higgs, she didn’t seem as confused as before but… She was still baffled by some of the things that were going on. The wizard type digimon giving her another option. How she could draw on the sand if she needed to say something. But she didn’;t know how to write words… so she would draw? But he wanted her to read something too!
She’d take a look at the books, raising her brows a bit as she was greeted with things that were explaining how to write as though the person reading it would already know how to read. Which was sort of silly if the rabbit thought about it. She’d look from letter to letter, forming it in her head and… then nothing. She’d frown a few times, scratching at her head and turning her attention to the wizard. She wasn’t exactly the quickest study or the smartest but she was the slow and steady sort.
The antylamon felt her cheeks turn a small shade of red and she’d nod slowly at Ebi. She appreciated the compliment and given the chance she’d reach out to pat the smaller mon on top of their head once more. She appreciated the positivity! She’d look through the book a few times, furrowing her brow and after a moment would squat down to try to write something out in the sand.
I. Am. Antylamon.
It was a start, something small. Something slow. She knew her own form’s name, all she had to do was imagine it and put it to paper right? Well less paper and more sand. The letter I was that sense of self and Am was used to describe something or place something together. Something extremely basic but the rabbit looked fairly proud of the fact! Grinning down at the EbiBurgamon and the wizardmon.
It would take her weeks, perhaps even months to form coherent sentences outside of a simple statement. That or maybe she’d be a quick learner left to her own devices…?

Just like how parents waited for their child's first step, Higgs is eagerly waiting for the big rabbit to start their own words. It's just a matter of time until they could write as simple as ABCs. Ebi is pretty good with morale support, something that Higgs kind of lacked, but he's more the type that would speak with silence and let his actions emphasizes it when it comes to helping the others. Minutes of waiting...
...and there it is. The first word. The rabbit identifies as an Antylamon. While Higgs do know about the existence of Antylamon, he never saw any of the species by his own eyes, relying on the stories around the mons back in the day. Quite surprising to be honest. And the fact that this mute Antylamon managed to write their first word is a small step towards everything.
"You actually done it! Great work!"
Higgs raised his right thumb, showing his appreciation towards the Antylamon's progress. No matter how small it is, a progress is still progress. After all, even if you can absorb knowledge directly from devouring Digimons, the process doesn't guarantee 100% success rate.
"If you keep trying, you would be as fluent as speaking orally in no time!"
It's just a blind optimism, but putting a faith in someone apparently boosts their motivation to learn more. At least that's what his master taught him. He too, would believe in Antylamon to write fluently.
