"If i choose to rob you and your tamer, i wouldn't choose staying here and enjoy the beach. I could just start pickpocketing your partner the moment we bumped and get away with it. I won't bother myself interacting with you guys in first place. Sometimes i just don't understand how those so-called bad Digimons playing the long game. That's not efficient and practical. If i were that bad of a Digimon, i prefer doing it up front rather than dragging a facade that eventually will fall down any moment."
Higgs kind of rambled beyond the point he made himself clear of the game plan. He's not the one that likes dragging his plans for too long. If he would really do the worst, he really should've done it the moment Kaya bumped him. That is when Kaya caught her guard off, and the element of surprise came to play. A perfect opportunity.
But unexpectedly, the Hawkmon decides to tell him the true reason of his suspicion. This, is what Higgs called a perfect opportunity. An opportunity to clear and settle everything.
"Alright. I understand. I'm a mon of my word, and none of what you've told me goes to Miss Kaya. If she asked you specifically about what you said while we're on this beach, that's the proof i can't keep the trust you've put on me regarding this matter."
Higgs decided to not prod further on Hawkeye's secret unless he decided to open up. The best tactic to dig information is letting the information source to spill themselves anyway, and the Wisemon thought this is already a good start. Besides, Kaya would just show up anytime soon and either asking both Hawkeye and him to get closer to the sea, or probably something else that would interrupt this conversation.

"Not all Digimon care to play the short game," Hawkeye responded. "They take the time to grow onto their victims, days, weeks, months. Then right when they finally let their guard down they strike. It's happened before in my village, as we were very easy to strike. That's why we banned anyone from moving in."
When Hawkeye revealed his secret to Higgs, the Wisemon "promised" that not a single word of it would reach back to Kaya. This made Hawkeye feel a little bit more comfortable, and decided to share more. "My earliest memories are filled with the disappointed about my corrupted data, and the joy I felt with my old partner, Eizo. He was the only one up to that point who didn't ridicule me or care that I couldn't Digivolve, or be reborn."
All while Hawkeye was explaining this, Higgs would see the bird begin to smile more and more, recalling his adventures with Eizo. Smiling was something the Wisemon hadn't seen Hawkeye do up until this point. However, he paused in the middle of his story and began to look more and more sad.
"It didn't last too long... an angry Digimon appeared. It aimed right for Eizo and... and..." Hawkeye sighed. "I was taken to the village the next day. I was treated to food and rest... then the day after that, it was attacked by bandits. Half the villagers were sent back to the Village of Beginnings... trusting others only gets your heart broken in the end."
A minute or so afterwards, Kaya emerged out of the changing room, wearing her one piece hot pink swimsuit and her white sandals. "So, are you two getting along now... hopefully?"

Although Higgs do understand the benefits of waiting patiently, it's just Higgs lacked the capacity to actually feel the sense of joy in doing that. But again, Hawkeye made a point. A good point that Higgs can't deny.
"You do have a point. There are things that require patience. And there are many that find the long game interesting. But again, dragging things too long is not something i fond of."
Just as Wisemon predicted, Hawkeye eventually told his story about his old Tamer. And with the entirety of story told, it is clear now for Higgs. But in this situation, Higgs only thought that showing sympathy or trying to make Hawkeye feel better won't make this situation any better. Pity, for the likes of this Digimon is like rubbing a salt on their wound. At least Higgs know that much.
"Sorry to hear that."
The Wisemon glanced at the Hawkmon for a while, and giving the best response he could muster. No more, no less. The best he could do for now is being a good listener. But Higgs do felt obligated to share his story to make it even.
But Kaya just came before Higgs managed to speak anything.
"Well, i can say we made a progress on that."
Once again, Higgs shifted his glance to Hawkeye one more time before he nods at Kaya, confirming that at least Hawkeye is less hostile compared to the first time they met.

It was... silent, between Hawkeye and Higgs after Hawkeye had shared his story. He... hadn't really told anyone that story, not a soul at the village, and not even Kaya. Why was it that he was telling the one Digimon that he was so suspicious of, and he tried to actively harm not too long ago?
Maybe... maybe Hawkeye was just tired of keeping it all in? No, no, not showing your emotions was the mark of a true warrior, a stoic being who used logic instead of emotions. Yes, even in times like earlier, the logical thing would be to neutralize an enemy from the Dark Area, to keep others safe. Even if he was a bit too hasty there.
All Higgs could say for this situation is that he was sorry. The way he said it... it definitely got Hawkeye thinking. Was Higgs as bad as he initially thought? But all Dark Area Digimon were bad... hell, that whole area should be destroyed, in Hawkeye's eyes.
Maybe he had it wrong... he did spend most of his life in the Server Woods, after all.
Thankfully Kaya came out to break the tension. She was pleased to hear that Higgs and Hawkeye had made progress with each other. In response Hawkeye smiled and nodded to Kaya. The tween girl looked joyful. "Thank god, this trip would've been zero fun if you two were arguing. Maybe before swimming, you guys wanna build a sand castle?"
"A castle made of sand does not sound very sturdy..." Hawkeye said, as if he was serious, which he was.
Kaya laughed in response. "What do you say, Higgs?"

Kaya asked whether Higgs want to help her make the sand castle before the swim. Not a bad idea. Although the castle might be crumbled instantly the moment ocean tides come and sweep the whole shore clean.
"Let's see if we can make a big castle before the wave comes. That's the thrill i'm looking for!"
Racing against the time, the Wisemon enthusiastically floats toward the shore, stopping at the place just in-between the dry and wet sand that got washed by the wave.
"I suppose we should build a wall first before anything."
As he speaks, the Wisemon tries to calculate the best width so start making the walls for the castle. Once he find the best result, Higgs start digging with his hand. He would devolve to Keramon to make things easier with his tentacle appendages, but that would be cheating.
"You want to try building the castle while i'm trying to make the walls, Miss Kaya?"

"Yeah! Let's try and make it as big as we can!"
Kaya and Hawkeye followed Higgs to the shore as fast as they could so they could get right to work at building the castle. Higgs suggested building the wall before they do anything else. "Yeah, good idea. We should probably make a line of where the walls would go first, right?"
Higgs seemed to agree, as he began to dig a line in the sand with his hand as he asked Kaya and Hawkeye to start building the walls. Kaya and Hawkeye both nodded as they piled sand onto the lines that were already dug, with Kaya more energetic about it than Hawkeye.
Maybe I'll see the fun in this as I go...? Hawkeye thought to himself as he built the wall with his partner.
At the moment, the waves seemed to be a good distance away... maybe they wouldn't have to worry about them for a while?

Both Kaya and Hawkeye joined him in making the walls. It's a good start. To begin, Higgs swiftly use his fingers to lump some wet sands before adding the dry ones. He intended to get the right amounts of sand that would make a wall that will stand firmly. Although he won't expect that it will survive against the waves and currents.
"Alright. Let me get the right sand before we can build the walls. Too dry, and they won't form into anything. Too wet, it will be too heavy, and they will crumble down by their own weight. Let's see if we can make just the right sand to build the castle."
Higgs still busy mixing sands to get the right moisture and consistency to make a wall that at least enough to stand on its own. It takes quite a time to get it right, but Higgs somehow managed to make the perfect balance between wetness and dryness on the sand lumps.
"Maybe this is just right. At least, i think it is. I'll try digging some pits just in case the wave comes."
After that, Higgs decided to go facing the opposite side, where he would make another line and dig them into pits that hopefully reduces the impact made by the waves. Just in case.

Kaya was impressed by how much Higgs knew about sand as they were building the castle. She was just expecting them to have a fun time while they did it, but Higgs was taking it pretty seriously, saying things like how if the sand is too dry it won't form, and if it's too wet it'll get too heavy. "Wow, Higgs, you really know a lot about this stuff, huh?"
"Ah, so that is why we didn't build it farther away from the sea."
Afterwards, Higgs spent some time mixing the sand to get the perfect amount of wetness. Meanwhile Kaya and Hawkeye, both unexperienced in this sort of field, just kept trying to pile not-too-wet sand on the lines to make a decent wall. It seemed to be working for the moment, but Higgs probably had the better strategy.
So far, the group had two out of four walls completely built, and pretty sturdy too. Kaya was tempted to make a small door on one of the walls, but she was afraid of knocking it all down by accident. However, those waves were slowly getting closer...

"My master taught me a lot of things, and the art of making sand castle is one thing that he taught me. He likes talking about trivial stuffs."
Higgs said as he digging the pit. After he is finished with the pit, he takes a look at the waves. They are somehow getting closer and ready to smash the castle wall that the group just made. But that's where the real fun comes. So Higgs speed up his work and trying to build wall that is matching with what Kaya and Hawkeye tried to build, but with better firmness and consistency.
Not long, he also helped the duo's part to make their walls even firmer.
"The waves are almost here. We better have it done by now! Let me help."
Should the castle walls finished, Higgs nodded in satisfaction as now he stands up and wait for the waves to come and try to get a piece of the sand castle that they built. Seeing the outcome of this battle between artificial building and the force of nature is exciting for Higgs, so he will wait and see until the clash happens.
"Now, all we need to do is wait and see!"

"You have a master?" Kaya asked as Higgs brought it up. "Like, do you mean a teacher or a parent? Can you tell me what they were like? And what else did he teach you?"
After lots of hard work from all of the builders, the sand castle was finally finished. It stood tall and proud, with the walls very firm, hard to knock down without actually applying any effort. Heck, Kaya even decided that it was good enough to make little circular gothic castle towers on each of the corners, as well as a couple of windows.
"I'll admit, building this was very... satisfying..." Hawkeye said with a grin as he observed the castle. "I am very pleasantly surprised, Kaya!"
"You gotta have fun while you can, right?" Kaya responded, as if she was stating an absolute fact. "Once I grow up, this kinda stuff... well, I don't know if it'll be behind me or not."
Eventually the tide did catch up to the sand castle, splashing right over it. It didn't knock the entire thing down, but it did make it look unrecognizably messy. "Ah dang it..."
"What a shame... what should we do now?"
"Well, I definitely want a chance to swim here soon. But I'm also kinda getting a bit hungry... what do you guys think?"
"Hm, I suppose I could eat."
"And you, Higgs?"

"It's quite a long story, but i have time to tell you..."
The walls they built are clashing with the incoming tide. However, the tide is quite strong, and the walls can't hold the surge for a long time. In the end, the castle fell down and became a messy sand instead. What a shame. Maybe he should've make the sand less wet, and the walls along with castle might be still there.
"Oh well... maybe we can go somewhere else before that."
Higgs is a bit disappointed that his sand castle didn't manage to make it. But the real reason why he asked the duo to find somewhere else is that he experienced hunger, the signal for him to eat something.
"I guess it's the perfect timing. Let's find some food and we can talk."
Higgs said as he washes his hand with seawater. Don't want to have your hands dirty from sand before eating.
"I'll let Miss Kaya to decide what kind of food we'll be getting. I'll follow suit."

Kaya shrugged. "I mean, we have time! I'd really like to hear more about you, Higgs." It was very clear at this point that the young Tamer had taken a liking to this Wisemon. Hawkeye was warming up but it was still very tense between the two of them.
With the sandcastle now destroyed, much to the disappointment of the group, now was the perfect opportunity to get something to eat. They had been spending quite a while building this monumental sandcastle. Plus Kaya and Hawkeye can always come back later to swim... after half an hour after eating, of course.
Both Kaya and Hawkeye noticed how Higgs washed his hands in the ocean before they left. Hawkeye just clapped his wings together other and over to brush the sand off, and Kaya just rubbed it off on her legs.
"You want me to decide where we go, Higgs? I think you should get a say too. What kind of food do you like?"

"If you want me to have say on this, it'll be my treat. So choose whatever food you like."
Higgs could eat anything and he doesn't really mind what kind of food that fills his stomach. So he let the human tamer decide and he'll pay the bills. Even if Hawkeye is still suspicious, he doesn't really mind about that. In a sense, it does count as bribing his way out of his predicament. But there's nothing wrong about treating your friend with good food. That is, if the human tamer thought of Higgs in that way.
"I mean, anything goes for me as long as it's edible."
And with that, Higgs waited for Kaya's decision. And whatever foods and drinks she choose, Higgs the Wisemon will happily accepts and gladly pays for it.
"So why don't you surprise me and see what do we get for lunch? I like surprises. Always excited to see what's waiting ahead."
And with that, Higgs fully let Kaya to be the decision maker for what they will have to fill their stomachs.

Higgs didn't seem to care at all what he ate, just as long as he ate something. He even offered to pay for the meal for the whole group. "Alright then! I wonder what good restaurants are around here..."
"I overheard a bunch of Digimon talking about an amazing hot dog stand somewhere in the city," Hawkeye spoke up, "they spoke really highly of it, as well. They mentioned having two-foot hot dogs."
"Hot dogs in the Digital World? I thought this place only had a bunch of wacky food... no offense, of course. But yeah, hot dogs sound like a very good idea! Let's go!"
The group then headed to the downtown area of Whitewater, which would've probably taken a bit of time by just walking. They also had to take the time to ask for directions to said stand. And even after that, the group had to walk down a bunch of back alleys away from the tourist-y parts of the city. Hawkeye's stomach audibly rumbled as they walked, the bird refusing to acknowledge that it did.
Finally the group had made it to this hot dog stand, which was in a very nice courtyard despite being in a not-so-out-there location. And there were only two Digimon in line, too!
"Finally," Hawkeye sighed as he and Kaya went into the line. "Hopefully these hot dogs are worth it."

Higgs decides to follow Kaya and Hawkeye from behind, letting them to lead the way to this rumored Hotdog stall. The first thing that popped up in Higgs' mind is the fact that hotdog is nothing that differs very much from a roasted meat. But maybe he's dead wrong about that. And the element of surprise is what makes Higgs excited about this.
As they walked through the hustling and bustling crowds, he somehow noticed that on the way to hotdog stall, it's like the place they're going to is quite popular... noticeable from how long the line is formed, despite being just a hotdog stall. Interesting.
"For a food stall, this place sure has a long line. I guess the rumors are true."
The excitement made Higgs a bit impatient. Particularly, his stomach is a bit growling, demanding him to get the hotdog as soon as possible. Despite that, Higgs is nonchalantly dismissing the fact that he's starting to get a bit hungrier than ever. Everything will be paid off in due time.
"By the way, do you prefer vegetables in your hotdog? Just asking. I mean, perhaps either one of you are into that vegetarian lifestyle."
Surely that's like a dumb question. Why do you ask about vegetables in a line of hotdog stall? But Higgs prefers making some lame jokes to pass the time over simply waiting idly.
