MPC 68-X/67-B: Negative Morality (Wild Card)
Title: As it all Burned
Reward Requested: Posts
Inside the Kernel Sphere, sitting in a fetal position as the bulging vein-like cables of whatever the monstrosity on the outside pumped out data outwards, no doubt with the sole purpose of spreading its “agents’” influence further and further, in an effort to destroy both worlds, Mikazuki Nakamura could only ponder where it all had gone wrong. Once he was cheerful and the happiest person one could ever meet. There wasn’t one who didn’t at least crack a smile around his childish attitude.
But… Children grew up. And there was no better teacher than abandonment. To be left behind by one reason or another, regardless of what it was, was always something that could shatter one’s reality.
He supposed it started with Junpei and Yuko. No, not Junpei-Kun and Yuko-chan. It was time he moved on from that. Those two left him… abandoned him and went for others. He helped them in every way he could and yet he was the one left behind. Was it because he was not fit to keep up with them? Did they not like him? Did he do something to offend them and they ran away?
...Or was he simply not good enough?
...YOU WEREN’T GOOD ENOUGH.
Yes, he wasn’t. He was always lagging behind in some way, failing to see the bigger picture.
YOU WERE A BURDEN FOR THEM.
Yes, he was… for everything he thought he did right, Mikazuki did put his friends in even worse a situation. They were always going with his stupid whims and ideas, while he did nothing but keep asking away...
YOU STUCK THEM INTO THE DIGITAL WORLD BECAUSE OF A WHIM.
Why couldn’t he have gone on his own? Why did he have to drag other people down with him all the time?!
Junpei, Yuko, Ryouta, Alan… they were all just being polite and putting up with him. And instead of realizing it, all Mikazuki ever did was pull them along with his ignorance and lack of anything resembling a brain. He was just an impulsive kid putting others through problems. His parents, who did everything for him and yet he still defied them and couldn’t listen to their imput. His friends, who had enough of his dangerous ideas after he almost got them Killed by this thing that now had Mikazuki in its bowels, surviving only through the loss of…
Lopmon… The beast who had stuck with him through thick and thin was now dead. Mikazuki had caused someone to die. It was because of him that he was gone… consumed by this abomination of nature who now was making him watch as everything shared its fate.
YOU ONLY BROUGHT PROBLEMS ALONG.
And now he’d cause so many more… Everyone would die because of him. Because he was a coward and an idiot who couldn’t do anything right.

Vibrant chatter, people busily going down the streets, spires that served a myriad of purposes and housed millions of people. Once, Tokyo was known for all of these sights and more. Once it was the capital of one of the most prosperous countries in the world…
And now it was rubble. The ground zero where human and Digimon alike battled for survival against horrible monsters who sought nothing but annihilation.
One day.
All it took was a single day for the creature, dubbed the D-Reaper, to take over the entirety of Tokyo and turn it into its body. Not just a lair… its form, a massive spire of flesh crowned by an extravagant, yet simplistic, headpiece, that covered everything. Buildings considered huge by the public sprouted out of it as if they were mere specks of dirt amongst its veil of fleshly cables, from which scores of creatures, each as bizarre as the next, roamed in patrol, protecting the main form from whatever harm could come to it.
It wasn’t enough for the chosen ones to simply give up on saving their home town. Scores of DigiDestined had gathered upon the eldritch location in an attempt to purge the creature before it could swallow all life on the planet.
Scores of them rose up to fight the threat. At least those who could do it, and along with scores of human weapons designed specifically to hurt digital life forms, charged at the many horrors spawning from the gargantuan main body of the D-Reaper, flashes of energy, various sorts of projectiles, and lightning-fast physical assaults were exchanged from both sides: Digimon and humans against creatures so alien that calling them either of those things would be an insult to them. The primitive-looking lifeforms used a standardized attack pattern that knocked some of the freedom fighters down, but for all their effort, their defenses were still giving way for the strongest of the heroes to make it to the main area of the town.
That was until something else emerged from the “Mother” D-Reaper’s main form. A creature that, in so many ways, was similar to the mountain of tendrils, but instead of a headpiece, it sported a blackened head with a gaping, pixelated mouth and from its myriad of tendrils, sickles emerged, charging at the many Digimon with deadly precision.
While there were survivors, it was still nothing short of a massacre.
One of the few to actually fight past the newest abomination was a girl with many different hair colors, glaring at the creature as her pierrot of a partner continued slashing at the Mother, but to no avail.

DO YOU SEE ALL THIS POINTLESS STRUGGLE? HOW ILLOGICAL IT IS? THERE IS 0% CHANCE OF EITHER THE DIGIMONS OR THE HUMANS DEFEATING THE REAPER OR SAVING YOU…
“That’s… not true! I know they can do it… they have to…” Although the words sounded hopeful, it was clear Mika had given up on hoping for anyone to make it through to the core.
EVEN IF THEY DO, WHAT WILL CHANGE?
Mikazuki’s eyes widened at that.
THE DAMAGE IS DONE. EVEN IF WE ARE TERMINATED, YOU WILL GO BACK TO BEING ALONE. IF THE GIRL MEETS YOU AGAIN, ALL SHE WILL DO IS SCOLD YOU FOR BEING OUR CORE. FOR BEING WHO UNLEASHED US INTO THE WORLD.
Needless to say, the speech left Mikazuki horrified. And the reason it stung was because, try as he might, the facts were there. People had already been consumed by the D-Reaper. Even if it was defeated, they wouldn’t come back.
But worse yet, there was an undeniable fact that its defeat wouldn’t change the fact the former Nakamura scion would still be alone. No one would come for him because he was a victim. He’d be left alone in a world that already showed the blonde there was no point in going on. Mika would be just someone else left to fester in depression… and stuck remembering how his trust and good nature were taken from him not just because of him, but because so his so-called friends willed it.
It was then that the sobbing stopped and whatever light still remained in Mikazuki’s eyes died along with many of the chosen children outside.
And as it all burned away, Mika couldn’t find it in him to care.
