Honestly, Shizu hadn't been expecting a lot to come from this trip to an ancient set of ruins that she got whisked on by a plucky Monodramon and an enterprising yet youthful EbiBurgamon, but she figured that there was always some merit to exploring new places in this world. Plus, if worst came to worst, the human had some help in getting out of the ruins in a timely manner.
The thing was, however, that trips to these ruins usually ended up having something weird happening during them. This was no different. The moment that Shizuka and co. set foot on the ruins, a familiar beeping that Shizu hadn't heard since an odd day at school rang from her pocket, the girl pulling out her onyx D-Tector to find...it was actually showing a map, and a small blip a ways away from where they were standing.
"Oh, is that your Digivice? It's kinda pretty." The EbiBurgamon stated with a tilt of their head. They had come by to get some ideas for a design for a restaurant, but they were also admittedly curious about what they could find. Monodramon on the other hand? She was mostly here because these two were friends. Admittedly, they hadn't been friends for long, but of this trio, only one could actually defend herself, so she took it upon her to try protecting Shizu and the EbiBurgamon. "That's a D-Tector...That means one of those totems is nearby, isn't it? I don't...know how you humans and your weird devices really work."
"I...think so? I don't know either." Shizu admitted. But, this was the first thing it had ever done since she had come into possession of it. "...I'm following it." The girl declared before she took off at a brisk walking pace through the ruins, with the EbiBurgamon running after her, calling out "Hey, wait up!" Monodramon was behind them, but it was easy to keep up with Shizu.
The path itself was long and...rather winding. And it lead pretty deep into the ruins...

With the hot sun of the Western Flatlands shining above, most digimon in the area - if there were any at all, even - seemed keen on hiding away in the shade; more interested in staying cool, than causing any trouble, even in the deeper parts of the ruins. The only sounds the traveling trio would likely hear were the sounds of the sand and stones beneath their feet, the howling of the wind blowing past, the consistent soft beep of the D-Tector that timed with the pulse of the blip on the map, and their own voices and breathing...
As Shizu followed that aforementioned blip, though... She would - before too much longer - be led to what looked almost to be a half-buried set of stairs; the building that might've formed the above ground portion of this particular spot having long-since crumbled away, save for the tiny portions of wall that barely stuck up out of the sand. What was likely the most interesting thing about it all, though, was that there were a couple of piles of sand that stood a short distance away from either side of the stairs...
... It was almost as though someone else had been here first, and had taken the time to excavate and dig out the stairwell downwards themselves.
And it seemed as though whoever it was, they were still there; for it was likely that the Monodramon and EbiBurgamon would both be able to detect the signal of another Digimon - respectably strong, it seemed - down in the ruins. On top of this, it was likely that the Monodramon would be able to pick up a scent of another digimon; the trail leading down the stairs.
It would be hard to get an exact bead on what sort of digimon the scent might've belonged to, though; some form of perfume or cologne seeming to partially obscure it, a smell comparative to that of a flower.
Just who was down these stairs? At the very least, this wouldn't be any wild digimon that the three were dealing with; what kind of wild digimon wore perfume, after all? Perhaps they were a fellow explorer or traveler, taking shelter from the sun?
Even with all of this considered, though... Were the three of them willing to go down and investigate?

In Shizu's own words, the heat was really just code for 't-shirt weather.' And yet, as the trio continued into the ruins, there wasn't much to really point out here. Ruins. Silence. The wind, the beeping, and above all, the heat. Shizu glanced behind herself to ensure that her entourage was still there, and bless them, they...actually were.
Having faith in people felt odd.
Turning back around revealed another part of the path in the form of a half-buried set of stairs. Shizu was about to start down them, when Monodramon stepped up and gripped her by the arm to stop her. "What's...what's wrong?"
"You don't fee-...You can't feel it." Monodramon realized. "There's...someone down there."
EbiBurgamon gulped. "...Someone tough that...smells nice?" It was some pretty nice perfume to scent your data with, they weren't going to lie. "Kinda like flowers...Hey, should I grow those? They seem pretty..."
The cook digimon was starting to go off on a tangent. "I'll answer that when we get back." Shizu decided. "I don't think I have a choice here, considering this is...the first time I've seen this thing actually work. Whether or not someone's actually down there...I still have something to do, right?" She said as she began a slow descent down the stairs, with her two friends reluctantly following along.
"Still. Someone was here first...That's what worries me, honestly." Monodramon sniffed the air. Goddamn, that was some tough perfume. She was HOPING they'd be some measure of civilized...

Descending down the stairs, sand would crunch between their steps and the aged stone steps; any sound as little as even their own breaths beginning to become almost too loud, as the howling of the wind was left behind them in the open aboveground. What might be down there, at the bottom of these stairs? Were they able to hear the trio coming? Were they friend, or were they foe..? As the three made their way down the stairs, it would briefly become dim and dark; the sun above not reaching this far down. And yet, even then, there would be a light shining from somewhere beyond the bottom of the stairs; just enough ambient light from either end ensuring that they, at least, would not be navigating the stairs blind. And once they reached the bottom? Well, to begin, there certainly would not be any beasts jumping them from the dark. In fact, down here, it wasn't all that much dark; small orbs of light that hovered at the corners of the room illuminating their surroundings, and allowing them to see that they were in a cellar of sorts, stone shelves lining the walls. It was quite dirty, with sand piled up at the corners closest to the stairs, and scattered across the floor; and whatever wood that formed the barrels and crates that might've sat on the shelves had long-since rotted away; the only things left being broken down splinters and pieces scattered near the shelves. However, what might've stood out the most to them, was who might've been giving off that signal and smell that they had noticed before... (Click For Source) ... this individual in question being an angel digimon, who sat against one of the support pillars that kept the cellar from collapsing even after these many years, writing in what appeared to be a notebook with noticeable interest and focus. They resembled a Holy Angemon in Priest Mode garb, with their robes and shawl, and large white wings. What set them apart from other Holy Angemon, though, was the lack of a proper helmet. Instead, the presumably-Holy-Angemon would have a hood up over their head, and wore a mask over their face. The mask was in the shape of a cat, white with sapphire-blue eyes and golden markings. It obscured any and all identifying features that the individual might've had, though, beyond the fact that they lacked the distinctive helmet of their kind. That wasn't all, though. Set in the center of the room, was a large figurine - a spirit totem - that seemed to be the object of the angel's focus. It resembled that of a Hackmon, in a seated position; and yet... For those who might recognize a Hackmon, this one appeared strangely different. A Hackmon on its own already had white armor; and yet, everything else about this Hackmon was colored white, too. The normally black markings that Hackmon have were white. The claws were white. Even the normally striking red cloak was white - and looked less as though it was made of cloth, and more like it was made of feathers! Its eyes, too, if anyone looked closely, would be a solid white; almost disturbingly so. What was up, with this strange Hackmon...? It took a few seconds for the Holy Angemon to notice that they were not alone anymore; but when they did, they would glance in the trio's direction. "Ah! Hello there," They'd greet the trio; idly waving a hand. Even if their expression couldn't be seen, a certain calm and lighthearted friendliness was still apparent in their voice and tone, as well as their body language. "Travelers taking shelter from the sun, I presume? It's good to meet some new faces. Traveling on your own can be a bit lonely, sometimes."

Somehow the mere act of going down a set of stairs was...made a touch more scary by the fact that noise was just...amplified. Even their footsteps sounded like too much. A silent approach was all but impossible. As the trio reached the bottom, they found that no light from above entered here, yet light still persisted here.
From something, or someone else.
No beasts lay in this room, but there were two things of note here. A strange HolyAngemon, the source of that signal, and...a totem. They were noticed, too. "H-Hi." Shizu waved at them in return, Monodramon looking them over apprehensively while EbiBurgamon stared at the strange totem.
"F-Feathers...?" They recognized the totem, but not what had happened to it. It was a rather peculiar sight, to say the least, and one that had caught the gaze of the other two. Monodramon and Shizu had quickly snapped out of that trance, with the latter looking down at her D-Tector before looking to the figure. "Partially so." The Monodramon replied, before glancing to Shizu.
She had opted to come here, she should finish that statement.
"We were initially moving through the ruins to see if we could find anything for EbiBurgamon's shop, but then my D-Tector started beeping that a totem was nearby, so...That's how we ended up here."
It was admittedly pretty nice to be out of the sun at least.

With Shizu's shy greeting in return, the HolyAngemon would simply nod, chuckling softly and idly, before returning to their note taking; scribbling down on their notepad. It was clear now, with some casual observation, that the totem was of interest to the angel - or at least, of more interest than the trio were - for they would occasionally glance up at it, and even hold up their pen in its direction as if they were drawing it, and were gauging measurements. Just what sort of notes, was this angel taking? Was it a simple sketch, or something more?
The EbiBurgamon's comment on the totem, though - regarding it having feathers - would draw the HolyAngemon's attention, the angel glancing up in the burger 'mon's direction. "Indeed; it's fascinating, just how different some digimon of the same core 'species' can appear, under certain circumstances." They'd comment; a certain eagerness in their tone, as they spoke.
After a second, though, the angel would pause - as though something occurred to them - before glancing to the trio, and adding in offer "If you're interested at all, you're free to study it with me while we wait out the heat. More heads are always better than one, after all." Almost as though to emphasize the notion of studying the totem, they'd idly tap their pen against the top of the notebook.
Though, then would come Shizu's response, about how she had come here in following her D-Tector; the mention of which seemed to grab the angel's attention. "Ah! I see; A Spirit User, then?" They'd respond; peering to the totem one more time, putting down a few final scribbles in their notebook, and then setting it aside.
"I'll guess it means that this totem is for you, then; I should've figured." They'd laugh idly, peering in Shizu's direction. Though the mask hid their expression, a certain warm and friendly smile could almost be heard in their tone. "I might be a little disappointed, but don't let my curiosity hold you back. You're more than welcome to take your totem." The HolyAngemon invited, gesturing with their hand in an almost beckoning fashion.

Shizu took a glance towards the totem, and noted the feathered...hood jacket on the being. It certainly did look striking, so she didn't necessarily blame EbiBurgamon for taking note of it. "Weird..." She muttered under her breath. The totem was pretty in a strange, ethereal sort of way, so it was no wonder that it seemed to take precedence over the trio. "Study...?" Monodramon blinked a few times.
The Amaya meanwhile nodded. "Yeah, I've noticed a few others like that. A Cutemon with a weird scarf, a bronze Renamon..." Nonspecific examples, sure, but still examples nonetheless. "That's what I apparently am." She raised the onyx D-Tector up, as if that would prove she was what she said she is. It wasn't like that was something that had required more proof, was it?
Monodramon and EbiBurgamon alike stared between Shizu and the HolyAngemon as the latter beckoned to the totem, seeming to allow Shizu to take it without much struggle if at all. Speaking of. "Oh, sure! I...actually don't know a lot about these totems, myself. Just they exist and that they're fragments of strong, long-gone Digimon. That's...all my sister's best friend told me, really." Shizu noted as she moved towards the totem and held her D-Tector out.
"...Shizu, you sure that's...what you're supposed to get? There's something off about that Hackmon..." Monodramon uttered, which elicited a shake of the head from Shizu. "The D-Tector lead me here, didn't it...? So, why wouldn't this be it?"
Now, what happened next was...where things get a little dicey. The D-Tector scanned the totem, which dissipated in some silvery white fractal code that flowed into the D-Tector. Nothing else happened for the moment, so Shizu turned to face the other three within the room, opening her mouth before she suddenly nearly doubled over in what appeared to be an abject amount of pain, letting out a yelp as she tripped over her feet and made contact with the floor. Light was shining from her chest as she started to cough up something...glowing and white onto the ground.
"Shizu!" Monodramon yelled as she rushed over to help her friend, with EbiBurgamon watching in utter fear as suddenly a cocoon of feathers encased Shizu within it, before the sound of SOMETHING ripping and cracking itself apart was heard. Monodramon had the suspicion that whatever was going to come out of there wasn't going to be happy at all. Lo and behold?
She was right.
A Hackmon just like the one that they had seem in the totem burst forth from whatever that was, snarling and blank-eyed, and stark white as the rest of her brethren, before lunging for Monodramon. Luckily enough, she was prepared, employing a favored technique of hers to reach out and GRAB the Hackmon before hurling the white beast away from the purple dragon!
This. Was a bad move. Monodramon hadn't quite looked where she threw the Hackmon, but...There was another target. The dragon hit the wall, and saw EbiBurgamon right in her sights. That throw hurt her. Purity could not be marred. So, she lunged RIGHT for EbiBurgamon, who let out a terrified shriek before receiving a rather vicious clawing to the everything.
This was already pretty chaotic.

"Study, indeed!" The way that the HolyAngemon's voice lit up at the Monodramon's questioning was almost like they were being asked about the interests that they lived and breathed. Their wings would even twitch, as though the angel were excited and raring to go. "There's, as of late, been a particular... Variety, of digimon, that are pure white - with feathers and a holy element to match - that I've been studying and researching. So when I stumbled upon this totem, well... I had to sit down and take some notes!"
"Digimon in general who are different from what we recognize as the 'norm', though, are also of interest to me." The angel continued; grabbing their notebook once more, and idly flipping through the pages. "Agumon who come in varieties of reds and blues - or bronze Renamon, as you mentioned, Meramon who are borne of electricity instead of fire...."
"Do you ever wonder, why these variations of digimon are born? What makes them develop in this way? What leads them to being the outliers, instead of the norms?" They'd question idly; showing a page to the trio, which appeared to be a drawing of a blazing and fiery Seadramon, the water about it steaming. "While this recent new variety of digimon is of current interest, I enjoy seeing why certain digimon are born different from others in general."
As Shizu mentioned the extent of her understanding of totem digimon, though, the HolyAngemon would nod in a sage fashion. "Totems are, as your sister's friend said, typically the remnants of powerful digimon dying; and more often than not, not passing on as most digimon do."
"We are not sure when they first begun appearing; though some theorize that the first totems began appearing around the same time as the first humans, in the Digital World. Others believe that totems existed for longer, and that it was only when humans first appeared that their potential could be unlocked."
As Shizu went to scan the totem with her D-Tector, the HolyAngemon would quietly watch; hands folded on their lap, wings twitching the slightest bit. Even with the mask, their gaze felt intense as they watched the fractal code be loaded into the device.
When Shizu collapsed in pain, coughing up white; the HolyAngemon would slowly step forward with no real sense of urgency, unlike the other two; simply kneeling before her. The quiet, intense gaze would continue as the feathery cocoon encased the young girl, the only thing the angel uttered being a simple, observatory "I see..." They sounded unconcerned, untroubled; simply curious, more than anything.
Yet, it was likely that would be the last thing on the minds of the other two; for when the cocoon hatched?
A white Hackmon, much like the one depicted on the totem, would burst out; and almost immediately would begin attacking the other two! In the midst of the fighting, the HolyAngemon would slowly stand up; watching Shizu's rampage, and the mauling that she was inflicting on the poor EbiBurgamon. Again, there would almost appear to be a certain lack of urgency or concern; though... The angel would soon sigh, shaking their head. "That's quite enough now, child." They'd state in a firm tone; raising their hand...
.... and snapping their fingers.
The sound, to the Hackmon, would likely trigger a response akin to a calm settling over them... That there were no foes here, that the Impure who stood here could wait for their turn to be cleansed soon enough.
Even if that wasn't enough to stop the fighting, though, the HolyAngemon would approach the duo; lifting the Hackmon by the back of her neck, and setting her aside, so that they could lift the EbiBurgamon up in one arm. Quietly, they would assess the young Rookie's damage, and mend their wounds; running over the gashes and cuts with their free hand, glowing with a soft and warm holy light. "There there. It'll be alright," The angel soothed the younger digimon. "You're safe now."

As interesting as the HolyAngemon's words regarding totems and their potential origins had been, they had been drown out by the ensuing chaos that had sprung from Shizu scanning the totem. Everything had occurred so quickly, Monodramon employed her secret technique and then EbiBurgamon was suddenly set upon by this strange creature that was actually a Hackmon, screeching as they were torn into. "M-MY EYES!"
Monodramon was frozen with fear, but the HolyAngemon's sheer...lack of concern over the situation both piqued her interest...and drew ire. "What the HELL do you mean 'I see?' She's eating them!" With that, she tensed a fist, an orange glow beginning to overtake the limb before the HolyAngemon raised a hand, and snapped his fingers.
The Hackmon that was once Shizuka Amaya immediately stopped her assault, a calm seeming to come over the monster. She didn't move, though, which made for a rather awkward sight when one considered the fact that EbiBurgamon was A) crying and B) holding their face.
The healing that the HolyAngemon provided was rather timely, too. The rookie was soon enough able to see again, and...was still crying. What a jobber. "The hell do you mean they're safe? That thing just JUMPED at me and him without any provocation!" Monodramon barked, while the blank-eyed Hackmon...made a single sound.
"W-What...is this...?" It was strained, raspy, even, but that was Shizu's voice, no doubt about it.

The HolyAngemon, at least initially, didn't seem to pay too much mind to the Monodramon's anger; instead simply focusing on the EbiBurgamon, and on gently cradling them close with both arms, once their wounds were healed. "Shhh... You'll be okay, little one... It's alright..." They'd soothingly murmur all the whilst, slowly walking to the opposite side of the room from Shizu; seemingly trying to just help the poor child calm down.
Shizu's voice, though, would draw the angel's attention; prompting them to glance back in her direction. "... It seems that, with only one fragment to form her 'self', the spirit within went berserk." They stated simply; sounding almost.. Disappointed, in a sense, as they spoke. Sitting down as they reached the opposite end of the room, the angel would give the EbiBurgamon some distance from Shizu, and let them rest on their lap. "But I was able to call off that same spirit and tell her to settle down, thankfully before any permanent damage was done."
An almost tense silence would fall over them for a brief moment; the HolyAngemon relaxing their embrace on the Ebiburgamon, and briefly double-checking to make sure the Rookie had healed completely. Before long, though, their attention would return to Shizu once more; a certain inquisitiveness returning to the angel's tone. "Tell me... How do you feel, now? Anything strange you noticed, as you were changing? Are you in need of healing?" The Holyangemon questioned the girl-turned-Hackmon, glancing up to her. "You appeared to be in discomfort, when you began evolving; and your Monodramon friend seems to have quite the throwing arm, as well."

It'd take a LOT but eventually the EbiBurgamon would calm themselves in time. Taking them away from the scary creature that used to be their friend definitely helped in this endeavor. Meanwhile, Monodramon's ire was simply something one could not curb so easily. What the hell was the angel ON ABOUT?
She didn't have much to say, but rest assured she had a glare affixed strictly upon the HolyAngemon. "...Who are you. What are you. -How- did you do that." A number of rather direct questions soon followed, however!
Shizu meanwhile was...not sure how she felt, actually. She had a front row seat to watching what she did to the EbiBurgamon. Yet she wasn't sure how she felt about this. "...It hurt. It hurt a lot." She finally decided. "Like something was trying to claw it's way out of me and burning me from the inside out."
Did she even realize she had started throwing up whatever that white stuff was? "...I feel empty, I guess. I don't know if I'm hurt."

It seemed the Monodramon had quite the handful of questions. The HolyAngemon simply peered to the young dragon for a few moments - as though pondering how to answer the questions - before, finally, they'd speak. "You may call me Malakim. I'm a HolyAngemon who was born and raised in Luminas, with an interest in a new variety of Digimon, who some call 'Bleached Digimon'." They stated simply, calmly. "And as for how I calmed down the spirit, well..."
They would pause, as though thinking over their words for a second, before stating "I believe that, being an angel digimon, she likely recognized me as already being Holy; compared to you or your EbiBurgamon friend, here. A common behavior among Bleached Digimon, is that they're very... Particular, about digimon that they don't believe to be as 'pure' or 'clean' as they are."
As Shizu responded to their own questions, though, Malakim would nod; gently adjusting their loose embrace on the EbiBurgamon to get out their notepad, flipping to a blank page, and taking down notes. "Taking in the Sprite Spirit of a Bleached Digimon was likely a shock to your system, I'd theorize." They'd state simply and logically, continuing to scribble as they spoke. "And during that shock, the spirit took over; going berserk, without a proper 'self' to direct it, due to being but a fragment."
"..." They'd briefly pause in their scribbling, thinking hard for a second, before stating "It's very unlikely that this will happen again, the next time that you take on this form, unless something interferes with the process. However, I'd advise caution as you find the subsequent fragments, and I'd advise keeping a clear head about you when calling on this spirit, until she's more 'complete'."

Monodramon couldn't really help but continue to regard this with a healthy amount of skepticism. "Bleached Digimon?" She questioned aloud. What in every manner of hell there was were those? As far as she was able to tell from Malakim's words, they seemed to be crazed creatures with an obsession about purity.
...And Shizu just...turned into one? The dragon stared at the Hackmon with a look of horror on her face. Speaking of Shizu, the Hackmon raised a claw to her face, squinting. She was obviously not that used to being a quadrupedal creature at alllll. She was doing her best to listen to the Digimon, though.
This was basically something risky to do as it was given the nature of what she scanned. Oh dear.
"How...do I change back, though?" The feather-caped dragon inquired, still glancing down at herself. Monodramon didn't have much in the way of words to add outside of just gazing warily at Malakim and towards EbiBurgamon, who seemed to have quieted down significantly.

"I've already mentioned a bit before; they appear to be a new variant of digimon who have pure white coloration, feathers, and a holy element. Their colloquial name - Bleached Digimon - likely comes from the fact that they've been completely bleached of color." Malakim explained simply; peering to Shizu, as they continued speaking to Monodramon. "From what I gather, their intelligence and reasoning is on par with a wild digimon; though they absolutely hate anything that's unlike themselves. The greater the difference, the more agitated they become."
"The danger aside..." Malakim's tone grew thoughtful, curious. "... They're quite fascinating, aren't they? Older angels, still clinging to tradition, might even call it a gift; though I'd like to believe myself more modern, than to openly tout them as such."
"I see them as more of... An adaptation, with the changing times. Though that's just my personal thoughts, of course."
At the question of how Shizu would change back, though... Malakim thought for a second, humming briefly. "... Being that you're a human... Digivolving, and devolving, probably doesn't come as naturally to you, as it does for us." They'd muse out loud, pausing once more to think. "... I have to admit that I don't know how well I can help, being that I'm a digimon, and not a Spirit User like yourself; though..."
"... Some of us like to compare the changing of forms to the flicking of a switch, or the turn of a dial. Another way you could think of it - given that you use the spirit to turn into their form - is, perhaps, like putting the spirit to bed for a bit."

So in taking up that totem, Shizu basically opened herself to going absolutely feral. That wasn't concerning at all, nope, not in the slightest. "So that's why she lashed out?" Because they weren't her?
Granted, Monika herself was a dragon too, just like the Hackmon. EbiBurgamon? Not so much. Perhaps that was why the creature decided to pounce on them more severely than they did with her. "...Never met angels..." Shizu muttered quietly to herself. This was actually something that rang true for Monika as well. Neither of the two had ever met angel digimon before outside of Malakim.
Which meant that this was probably the strangest first impression that one could get for the Digimon that lurked up in the sky. Regardless, Monika said nothing. She didn't see these things as a gift.
Especially not after what just a single one had done to her friends. A single DEAD ONE at that.
"Changing times?" Shizu uttered out loud. Whatever could that mean? That preceded Malakim's musings regarding spirit evolution. They could not aid her, no, but...A thought did strike Shizuka at that moment. Malakim -was- a Digimon, sure, but who said she needed the help of a Digimon to revert back?
"I...think I should be on my way. I know someone that might be able to help me." Yes, maybe getting out of here might be a good first step towards fixing this odd mess.
