Rosewood City Job A - Security Force Work
This, this was what they had been hoping and waiting for. Pickle had seen the job postings for Rosewood City, a rather rapidly expanding and charming city that they had visited a couple of times before, but they had never had the chance to actually take one on before now. And even better, they weren't alone! Zachary had decided to join them for this job, providing security for locations of import. They had been delegated to an ongoing construction project, new residences for the Digimon that were progressively moving into the newly fledged city, and the contractors were concerned about mischief makers going in and vandalizing the houses-in-progress. The two humans and Zachary's partner had already recieved a basic rundown of the job; patrol the site after dark, keep an eye out for trouble, deal with the trouble if it arises, and prevent any collateral damage in the process. The collateral damage part definitely prevented Pickle from making use of certain parts of their arsenal, but that was fine.
Now they were waiting outside the job site for Zachary and Panthermon to arrive, nodding happily at the workers as they filed out to head home for the evening. The sun was just beginning to set, and soon they two Chosen Humans and Panthermon would be the only ones authorized to be here for several hours. Pickle couldn't wait, it was gonna be interesting working in the dark while surrounded by the half finished shells of buildings. The spook factor would definitely lend a certain aspect to this job that they'd have fun with.
"Hey! Zachary! Panthermon! Right on time!"

The call for Zachary was an odd one when he answered his forum contacts of Nexus. It operated very similar like email and so he was happy to hear from "Pickle". From what he knew, she was very ambitious as well and excited to do her part for their group. As was Zachary. So he was very pleased to hear her she had a job for them. He had only been to Rosewood once, and when he learned it was to act as part of a policing force, even Panthermon was interested in it. Their arrival in the Digital World was around the time that night was happening. Honestly, it was odd how Zachary, who was rebellious against the 'authority' that DATS had with trying to segregating Digimon and humans, and now he was acting to be a part of a law enforcement group for this town. Even if only temporarily, Zachary found this ironic. Panthermon, however, was more than willing to dive in. It didn't take long to find Pickle as she waited nearby and she greeted them warmly. Zachary had his hands in his jacket pockett and Panthermon strolled up at ease. " Hey, Pickle. Thank you for inviting us. Um... though I gotta admit, I feel a bit out of my element here," Zachary said, a little nervous as to what to do. " Our job is to patrol Rosewood as police officers? It is a bit unnerving..." Panthermon looked up to Zachary. " You're thinking of this the wrong way. " the jungle cat said reassuringly to his partner. " You are acting as a figure for security and protection of others around you. The fact you are here and keeping an eye out for others, means that your presence puts people at ease. In the event of an emergency, people can depend on you to act and help out. You should feel proud that we can serve this way." For Panthermon, he was liking the idea. He was in form, a sense of guardian. When Zachary imagined him, he was a protector. A guardian who protected the innocent from the evils of the darkness by using darkness against them. A good creature that protected others in the dark of night. For him to be a police or law figure, seemed to fit him well and he was actually very at ease with the role. " Do we need to be deputized or something?" Panthermon asked Pickle. "Hey-hey!" a voice boomed. "Glad you could make it. You must be the ones who answered the job!" Zachary turned, and his face twisted a bit in surprise. His heart skipped a bit, but afraid he was being 'treatened by a large fire arm'. However what was odd was the humanoid creature with a massive gun in its chest, wearing cowboy boots, gloves and a hat-- obscuring a 'dark face' with yellow eyes and further hidden by a scarf."Howdie, pilgrims. Glad you could help serve in our night shift lawmen-- yes-siree!" the Deputimon said eagerly, reaching over and aggressively shook Zachary's hand. WC: 508

"We're not here as cops, we're here to protect a city on the rise from anyone who might want to harm it!" Pickle gestured wide with their arms, smiling. "Rosewood's still being built, it's not super well established yet right? Anything that goes wrong here will take a lot longer to deal with and fix than it would somewhere like Terminus that's been there for a long time and has the systems in place to handle most stuff quickly. If we can prevent something from happening tonight, even if it's just through our presence, we're saving a lot of people a lot of time and effort. In a place like this, everything counts." They had a serious look in their eyes as they looked at their surroundings. "Anything here that gets damaged or stolen is a potentially major setback for a place like Rosewood, so that's what we're here for."
Zachary's discomfort hopefully assuaged by both their words and Panthermon's, Pickle turned their attention to answering the Digimon's question. "We're supposed to be gives some temporary permits for being allowed around here tonight that say we're allowed to deal with problems as they arise using methods we feel are necessary. Within reason." They looked around for the Digimon that's supposed to meet them here, and lo and behold here came Deputimon now.
"Hi! That's Zachary and Panthermon, I'm Pickle! It's wonderful to meet you!" They shook Deputimon's hand after it shook Zachary's. "It's our pleasure really, we're happy to offer a hand to a fine city like Rosewood." Their smile was dazzling as they stepped up next to Zachary and Panthermon. "Can you run through the details of the job again please? I want to make sure I didn't forget anything."
"'Course! Y'all will be patrolling the new residential construction site tonight, keepin' an eye out for anyone lookin' to cause a ruckus. You gotta stop 'em if there is anyone, and short of killin' 'em or breakin' things, you can handle the situation according to what you judge is right. Catch 'em if you can though, we wanna do things lawfully and we gotta ask 'em what they were thinkin' and charge 'em for their crimes." The Deputimon pulled out a set of papers for each of them and handed them out. "Those're your permits, don't lose 'em. You're allowed on site 'til just after dawn, when the first shift of workers will be showin' up."
"Thanks! We won't let you down!" Pickle folded their permit up and tucked it away before looking to Zachary and Panthermon to see if they had any questions before they started for the night.

Zachary listened intently to what Deputymon had to say. His answer was very straight forward and Zachary took the documents without much concern. He had to take it for Panthermon too-- since the cat had no thumbs. Still, Depuitymon was very clear with his directions and Zachary could get on board with their job. It wasn't like DATS at all and he could support it. "Sounds good. You can count on us," Zachary said with assurance.
Panthermon was oddly optimistic and excited for this too-- not to the same level pickle was. We will patrol and keep an eye on things. No worries," the cat growled, his claws already extended with excitement.
As Deputimon left to let them go to the construction site, Zachary turned at the exuberance of PIckle, and how eager she was to act on all of this. While enthusiasm was appreciated, he did seemed confused by her's over-eagerness from his perspective. "You seem unusually on fire for this. Do you always do things with this level of commitment? I don't think I have as much energy as you do if that is the case," Zachary asked, curious to Pickle as he didn't know her as well... or the more personal facts that made her a 'they'. That probably wouldn't of mattered. Still, the level of excitement she put into everything did make Zachary wonder. Then again, he been less enthusiastic on things in the real world due to his own social issues.
Dusk soon settled on the town of Rosewood and the construction site was around them. It was a mess of steel beams, half-built buildings and other tools and gear around. Oddly there was no construction gear... but who needed when some Digimon were either strong enough to lift steel, tall enough to build , or even built like construction gear alone.
For the moment, it was quiet and not alot was going on as Panthermon stalked ahead in the cover of night, on the prowl as if he was hunting prey.

As the sun fell behind the horizon and dusk arrived, the trio began their job of patrolling the construction site. It was truly huge, much larger than most construction sites Pickle could recall seeing in the human world, although the lack of heavy duty equipment meant it was also fairly spacious, allowing the humans and Panthermon plenty or room to walk around as they kept an eye on things. While the trio walked, Pickle pondered Zachary's question.
"Well I'm a high energy person in general, but I'm always extra happy to do anything that involves helping other people out. Always have been really. As far as I'm concerned it's my whole purpose in life to help others whenever I can, like my parents do." They still sounded very cheerful as they spoke, but their voice was probably quieter than Zachary had ever heard it before. "Getting involved with the Digital World means I have more ways to do it too, and more time thanks to how it goes faster here than back home. It's wonderful. My Spirits are usually pretty happy about helping people as well, so that only makes me more excited about it all. It's not really my thing to do stuff halfway."
They looked over at Zachary for a moment, suddenly almost somber. "It's why I was so happy that you want to make a group built around helping others out, because that's what I'm all about y'know? The world would be a better place if everyone was more willing to lend a hand to people in need, and if I can show other's that then I'll consider my life a success." Pickle's grin came back in full force a few seconds after, and they skipped forward and off to the side to peer into one of the more complete building shells. It was quite tall, not a sky scraper but at least three or four stories high, the outer walls mostly in place, but still bare. The interior was still nothing but framework. They looked back towards Zachary and Panthermon.
"So why do YOU want to help people so much, Zachary? You gave that whole speech back then which was awesome, but what makes you want it? I want to help people because that's pretty much all I've ever wanted to do, I grew up surrounded by helpful people after all." They were watching him over their shoulder as they spoke, a hint of their usually hidden shrewdness shining through as they waited to hear his own response. Whatever he said would definitely be remembered and mulled over extensively. "What's driving this project forward? You're the leader really, so your motivation is very important."

Zachary's feelings about PIckle changed quickly. At first, he was a bit put off by her over eagerness, but now it was clear she/they were genuine about it. The desire to help others was a strong motivator for everyone. The fact she was shouting less and being thoughtful made it more clear of her sincerity on the matter. Especially with the mention of their parents. It made sense as Zachary looked up to his parents too. Or so he presumed.
At the mention of his own reason, Zachary felt a bit hesitant to be totally open but it was not like he didn't trust Pickle at this point. "It's a bit hard to explain...First, I am sorry i misinterpreted your excitement. I guess I was raised well by my parents, but after being bullied for so long and all for just because I was a nice person, I wanted to make a place where... people could just be themselves without fear. Didn't help that even people would fear Digimon or Tamers for that matter. In the end it comes to two thing I learned." Zachary explained thoughtfully, "To treath people the way you want to be treated, and in the end all that anyone wants is to be accepted for who they are. "
It was a bit deeper than Zachary meant to go to. Still, he was proud to still have the desire to care for others despite his own personal traumas with people. "A life without others is miserable. So I wanted to make things better and make a place for people to connect. I guess I want this cause I for a time, was alone..." A sigh escaped him, "Sorry if I overshared. Anyway I do care about other people and helping others is pretty much what anyone, Digimon or human, should strive to do. But that is the dream, not the reality. If in the end we can make people and Digimon accept eachother more, I for one would call that a great goal for Nexus."
He was a bit thrown by being called the leader. While true he was a founder, he didn't consider himself a leader in title. "You think I have what it takes to be a leader?" he asked.

Pickle listened to Zachary go over his own motivations with a slowly growing smile, very happy to hear that his motivations seemed to be so genuinely good and kind hearted. They could feel their spirits also resonating with the idea, or at least most of them. They felt the influence of their more chivalrous Spirits urging them towards a certain course of action in that moment, but felt it was best to abstain for now. No need to overwhelm Zachary and make him or Panthermon uncomfortable. Instead they continued on through the construction site, eyes and ears open for signs of trouble as they conversed with their friends.
"Unity and acceptance as goals to strive for sounds wonderful to me. Both are necessary to improve the world." They turned their megawatt grin on the Tamer and his Partner for a moment. "As for whether or not you're leader material, I think anyone can figure out how to lead if they try. It's ultimately your dream we're working towards, the others and I are backing you and your goals and ideals since they align with ours. You brought us together and put something in front of us that we can strive for together, you're the unifying factor here. So even though it can change in the future, right now at least you're the leader of Nexus."
They skipped forward a few paces to peer around a concrete wall, falling silent for a moment before nodding in satisfaction and turning back to look at him. "I'm sure the others would agree that you're the boss. Nexus is your idea, and-" There was a distant crash in the distance, something metal falling to the ground. Pickle's head swung around immediately as they strained to listen for anything else, beginning to move off towards where it had come from.
"Over here." They crept a short distance away towards an area that currently held the shell of a home, stacks of wood, brick, and metal laying around the site partially conealed by half finished walls and the skeletal framework of the building. They crouched behind one of the few walls put in place and peered around it into the more open section of the construction project from which quiet voices could be heard.
"Watch it!" one of two DemiDevimon hissed at an abashed looking Gekomon that was stepping away from a metal panel that had gotten knocked over. "Do you want to get us caught?"
"S-sorry..." The Gekomon mumbled, carefully picking up the bag it had dropped. "Didn't mean to bump it."
"Both of you shut up. We gotta get this stuff set up and go." The second of the DemiDevimon spoke up, glaring down at the other two from its perch on a beam just above them. "Get the stuff ready, let's get this over with."

Zachary smiled kindly at Pickle as he appreciated her encouragement. "Well, I'll do the best I can to lead. Point is, I want to work with you guys, not be a dictator or anything like that. So do feel free to voice your opinion if you want to," he said as he stretched out his arms. The sky was now dark and filled with stars, even for the blooming city they were in. It was moments like that he forget he is in the Digital World. "But I do believe in what I started."
The crash sound made them all on alert, as Panthermon too jumped, his head turning and fur on end. A growl tore from his voice as he looked to the source. As Pickle led the way for the moment, Panthermon too took notice and immediately went into 'stealth mode'. The Panther faded away, invisible to sneak up on the suspected people. Being quiet himself, Zachary joined Pickle behind the make-shift walls under construction and peeked over to see them.
There were three of them-- two Demidevimon and a gekomon, by the look of him? It seemed they were up to something as they had a sack and were trying to be quiet and sneaky as the Demidevimon was barking orders at them.
All the while, Panthermon crept up soundlessly and quietly while invisible, even Pickle wouldn't be able to tell where he was.
Should I move in and stop them? Panthermon asked Zachary in their mental link.
Zachary shook his head. Not just yet, lets just see what they are up to. Zachary turned to pickle and kept a 'quiet' gesture with his hand to see what t hey were up to.
All the while Panthermon soundlessly moved in, scaling up the structure to get into his ideal position...
