Alternative Title: Bootleg Italian Title From a Noob at the Language. Sorry for butchering it! Amelie had heard quite a few times that, a good amount of the time, she tended to be just a bit over-the-top. That she was just extra, maybe a bit too much; sometimes, she wondered if those accusations actually had a measure of truth, or if they were just mutterings of envious people without anything better to do with their life. Maybe the truth was somewhere in the middle? That was plausible.
Somebody would’ve definitely told them that if she told them she’d been practicing her Italian for this upcoming trip. Could anyone really blame her, though? Probably! Asher probably would poke fun at her if the opportunity presented itself. And that was if he hasn’t already. Chances are he already had!
The brunette sighed as she gave the panorama yet another look; the evening was simply precious, even if a little chilly, considering the Venetian winter. Luckily, the heavy overcoat she was wearing at the moment provided her with enough comfort for that. Besides, that, though? She was positively beaming tonight. Who would have thought, but the sensation of a long-held plan finally coming into fruition was pretty elating.
Happy thought world aside, the brunette was currently walking through a relatively unbusy street, her hand locked with the person with whom she had shared this day thrice already. “It only took us three years, but we’re here. Bet you thought this wasn’t ever gonna happen back when we met at Whitewater for that blind date.” Mean comment, but it was probably correct!
Sides, it wasn’t like teasing Asher wasn’t warranted every time. He pretty much deserved it! “Are you doing okay, by the way? Dealing with jet lag alright?” Amy herself was pretty resistant to it, having traveled for a fair deal of her youth. But how about her companion? Guess she’d find out soon. “The city is very pretty, don’t you think? A city with channels has a pretty special kind of charm to it, even though most of them have nothing on Venice. At least in my opinion.” Maybe that had to do to few of them having them as the defining characteristic of their architecture. Maybe that was why she held the city in such high regards. Hard to know for sure!
Their destination was somewhat obvious; the Canal Grande was a couple of blocks away, and they were headed straight towards that direction. “I don’t know if Loire was more sad or jealous when she heard we were traveling on our own. Think that Ooi and Whiskers will take good care of her? I hope so.” Hopefully she’d be having a good time! And wouldn’t hate her mom too much once everything was over. “How have you been? I feel like we’ve not talked that much lately.”
In part, that had mostly been Amelie’s fault. Her exam period had been nothing short of brutal, but after all of the some sleepless nights studying, she had emerged relatively victorious. Leisurely time was the order of the day; especially if it included her boyfriend!

It was a miracle-of-sorts that this trip had been made. With splitting so much time between so many obligations, and one of the pair pretty much running a city, who would have thought that they would be able to afford the luxury of actually taking a proper vacation?
Unlike his darling girlfriend, however, Asher definitely hadn't practiced Italian. Definitely because he was already a pro at it, and not because he was too lazy to learn another language! Definitely.
Luckily for Amy, so far Asher had played the 'nice' boyfriend role, and didn't tease her too horribly much! Give it time, though. It was bound to happen sooner or later. Asher, nice? It was a cute joke while it lasted, right?
"I definitely knew it would happen," the redhead chuckled, with a shrug. Even though it hadn't even been a distant thought in his mind back then! "Wonder if that, what was it," he trailed off for a moment, "Venusmon could see this would happen." Ah. Yes. The Venusmon. How had he forgotten about her until now?
She was such a creep.
Tilting his head, Asher raised an eyebrow. "I'm fine. Used to travel a lot, before Japan." So, it seemed they were in the same boat! No real surprise there. "Are you?" If Amy had any issue, she was clearly hiding it. Granted, the excitement of a trip such as this was plenty reason to ignore jetlag, right?
But, was Venice pretty? There was a long, pensive hum, while Asher debated if he wanted to agree. "I guess?" Giving a shrug, a smirk appeared on the young man's face, "not as pretty as you, though." Eugh. Asher, please. Being nice is one thing, but cringe lines are a totally different matter! "But yeah. It's pretty."
And a lot more peaceful than dealing with the drama that the Digital World could bring, that was for sure.
It was also quite a bit more peaceful without a certain eel-child. "I bet if we get her a souvenir, she'll be happy enough to make up for it." Surely, Loire would love neat presents, right? Would it be enough to forget that her parents 'abandoned' her for a bit? "Ooi and Whiskers have it handled." Probably, at least. "I think the worst we have to worry about, is her picking up the cat-pun thing from too much time with Whiskers." Did Ooi have any obnoxious traits? Asher couldn't think of anything that might rub off on the impressionable child, at least!
"I've been fine." Fine sounded pretty... fine, right? "I don't think there's been too much going on, to note." Nothing beyond what was just considered nearly-daily events, that was! Digital World, work, family life, texting the girl he was holding hands with at the moment whenever she seemed available. Yes, the usual. "I met a woman with a digivice in-between sets for that movie. She threw it in the trash." Oh, right. That movie. That he totally told Amy he had an extremely small background part in. And that she totally didn't forget about because it would have most definitely happened off-screen and not in a thread! "Otherwise, I don't think there's been much interesting happening."
And, even though exams had brutally attacked his girlfriend, he had to turn the question around on her! "How about you?"

It was probably intended, but Asher’s comment proved to be quite funny. Amy couldn’t help but to giggle at it. “Uh-huh. Sure. I bet you did.” A bit on the amazing side was how the brunette remembered things that happened relatively long ago, all while being just a bit inebriated. She had to agree on something, though! “That Venusmon might’ve been a little… hands-on the whole issue, don’t you think? While I have never thought ill of the concept of cupid, I gotta say that when it applies in practice, it’s a bit on the creepy side.”
A nod was given at the next remark. Good thing Asher seemed pretty resistant to jet lag! The young woman certainly knew people who were less fortunate than him in that regard. “I’m glad. It was a fairly long trip, so I was a bit worried about it.” Maybe she just cared a little too much about silly details. “I’m alright. And I guess I could mirror what you said; unless the trip’s fairly lengthy, I tend to handle them just fine.”
A small smile followed that statement. There was this certain amount of… care Asher was putting on his words, for some reason or another. Fairly uncommon, but not something Amelie minded at all. It probably would be fairly fleeting, but it felt genuinely nice, in a sense.
Or maybe, she was just having a weird dream or a hallucination. Blue eyes remained wide open for some seconds, almost if her brain was struggling to process the redhead’s words. Let’s just say that the ensuing bout of giggling proved to be quite effervescent. “You know that poor me will have a very hard time dealing with your usual self if you continue to spoil me rotten like that, right?” It certainly wasn’t a bad thing. Just a wild change of dynamic! “But I think I’ll think about that one later. Thanks; you’re not looking too bad yourself, either.”
All things considered, though, he was right in the matter of not worrying too much about the beings people that stayed behind. “There’s an aquarium over here I want to visit. Maybe we’ll be able to get her some things from there.” Granted, they were probably bringing her way more than that, but having a starting point wasn’t bad, right? “I think they’ll have a good time together. Some cat puns don’t sound too bad as a worst-case scenario if you ask me, even though that’d certainly be weird.”
Then again, Whiskers was admittedly a pretty weird individual. Loire seemed to be very fond of her, despite the strange nature of their first encounter. Oh well; childish naivety had played in their favor in that situation! Yet, thinking too much about the people left behind when the whole purpose of this vacation was having a breather from all the things happening in Japan would be a disservice to the trip itself, wouldn’t it? So, for the time being, Amy decided to let go of those worries and focus on the moment, all while listening attentively to her boyfriend.
Eyebrow quirked. Now she was curious about the circumstances of that meeting. Nevermind the fact that he didn’t seem to have anything else of note to share. “Was she acting in the same movie as you? That’d be a pretty funny coincidence.” And after a small pause, she added. “Why did she throw it into the trash, though? Did she decide she wasn’t partaking in Digital World stuff? Or was it something else?” After all, the reasons for something like that to happen were aplenty.
In what was decidedly an Asher-like gesture, the brunette soon found her question doing an u-turn right back at her. She couldn’t avoid smiling slightly at the gesture before answering. “Life’s stress.” For the first time since they’ve arrived, a heavy sigh momentarily obfuscated the girl’s otherwise chipper disposition. “It’s a relief I finished with things when I did, because I was already beginning to feel just a little overwhelmed. I’m glad I was able to temporarily delegate most of my Digital World responsibilities to Eve cause otherwise it might’ve been a little too much. But… other than that, there’s just some miscellaneous Digital World events; doubt you’re too interested in those, in all honesty.”
Most had been covered in miscellaneous conversations. Well, at least the ones that didn’t involve situations that were a bit too dire! This, however, wasn’t the time nor the place to discuss such topics; at least not unless some intense prodding was involved.
Belic conflicts were a tad overrated, anyway.
Eventually, the couple reached one of the many openings of the Canal Grande; a relatively narrow entrance, with barely enough space to accommodate a couple of small watercrafts. Over there, a gondola could be seen, yet nobody else seemed to be taking care of it. “Huh.” Amelie seemed extremely puzzled at the development. “I did schedule a ride to our next destination, but… where’s the person who’s supposed to operate it?” She gave her surroundings a glance, her eyes not finding a single soul around. Well, except Asher and herself.
“Think anything happened to him?” It was a very puzzling situation, but hopefully one that could be resolved soon!

"Definitely!" Maybe it was a bit funny, but Asher was just playing into his definite 'all-knowing' persona right now! Just like Venusmon was back then! "Yeah, I think I like the version where Cupid uses arrows instead." Instead of lurking around corners and staring at them from a distance. So weird. No denying the Digimon must have been a powerful seer, though!
At least now that they were both confirmed to be jetlag-free, they could enjoy their trip to its fullest! Or, something like that. At least until Asher stopped being a little too nice and started being a bit insufferable. Enjoy the peace while you can, Amy!
But maybe he needed to cut the act sooner than later! "Oh, come on, this is my usual self!" Except, you know, nice! And, just in case she wanted a reminder of how she should be extremely appreciative of his current mood, the redhead used his free hand to poke her on the nose. "Just remember that I tried to be nice now, because if you get sunburnt later, I might have to bring out the old nickname." Oh no.
An aquarium sounded like a pretty nice time, though! And getting Loire a present from it would be quite fitting! "I hope they have an eel doll, or something." Really, Asher? Loire did not need an eel! She was an eel! "They're probably treating it like some big sleepover, though. Bet Loire won't even want us to come home." That'd be the ideal situation, at least. Worst case would be Ooi and Whiskers taking turns wanting to pull their hair out and refusing to ever help again.
Now they would move onto questionably less stressful topics! Like acting, and the girl who threw away mysterious objects! "Yeah, she was," there was a pause, while he tried to mull over what the role had been. "I think a waitress in it?" Probably. Yeah. That sounded right. "She had no idea what the digivice was." That explained trashing it, at least! "Something about cats with gloves. I'd find it funny how oblivious she was but," there was an awkward pause, "it's basically a re-tell of Whiskers following me around before I knew what Digimon were, too." Welp.
"I didn't get a chance to talk to her more about it, but she at least dug it out of the trash before I had to leave." With work, it was awfully hard to have a lengthy mind-blowing discussion about an entirely separate and totally real world! And, she'd been pretty stressed anyway. Asher wasn't going to pile a whole new thing on top of that.
It was a bit surprising to hear Amy's first response to having the question spun back to her. Stress? He supposed it made sense. Running a city wasn't really a relaxing job! Though, Evie was probably having a blast handling everything that had been left in her lap. She was a weird one like that. "I guess that just means we should have vacations a little more often," the young man teased, while squeezing his girlfriend's hand. "I'm interested in whatever you want to tell me about, though." Even though chances were high that he had already been told most of the stuff! After all, what was a boyfriend if not a tool for venting any and all frustrations? Among other things, of course.
Hopefully, this vacation could help the brunette shed some of her stress!
But now that they were approaching their first stop, there was a bit of a holdup! In the fact that an important person was missing from the gondola! "Maybe he thought you were so good, you could maneuver the boat yourself?" Definitely not! Giving a small hum, Asher looked around. It really didn't seem like there was anyone here, huh? Weird! "Or they'll be coming back from a break soon." One could only hope! This was supposed to make Amy less stressed!
"Or Loire ate them for stealing her parents." As reasonable a conclusion than any!

Despite the time and the place, Amy guessed that some things always remained constant; Asher trying to be the smartass one was definitely among those. Without a doubt! “I don’t know if I’d have liked to be poked with an arrow. I’ve heard that being shot with pointy things usually hurts quite a bit.” The brunette had actually experienced that, even though the sensation of pain had been notably absent. Flip side of her spirit forms, she guessed. “At least she was harmless. That much I’ll give her.”
Hopefully, she wouldn’t have to deal with powerful seers in the near future. That encounter was more than enough! Just like how she probably had enough of Asher being his usual self; sadly, she probably would have to deal with that one for a long time. Possibly maybe even forever.
It was a somewhat expected reaction, but the brunette rolled her eyes in an exaggerated manner at her boyfriend’s words. “For sure. Nothing really abnormal here.” The sarcasm could almost be seen in her words. “I think you’re more likely to get sunburnt than me though. You’re the paler one, after all.” Would that mean they’d be a happy lobster family? The possibility floated in the air, even though the actual results of such a situation would probably be fairly different. “Do I get to call you lobster too if that happens? Or aragosta, just to fit with our destination! Which one sounds better to you?” Those words certainly had the potential to come back to Amelie and bite her behind, but also had quite the juicy payoff if things went her way. A calculated risk, pretty much!
“You’re right. I bet she’s having a lot of fun.” While the young woman didn’t want to dwell home for too long, this was probably how it felt to be responsible for somebody else’s well-being. It’d surely take some time for her to become better at repressing her lingering worry. Luckily, there were other topics to somewhat distract her from that, such as Asher’s strange encounter with another chosen that didn’t seem thrilled about the fact. “Think she’ll come around once she figures out that things aren’t quite how she thinks they are? At least she didn’t destroy the thing. Might’ve regretted that one.”
Or! It might’ve ended up being the wisest decision of her life. Hard to tell, honestly! At least the encounter hadn’t ended on a disastrous note; something quite strange, considering one of the people involved there.
Just like with Loire, it seemed like the brunette was somewhat worried regarding the state of the city she had left on Eve’s hand. She wouldn’t do anything too brash, right? Probably. Regardless of that thought, she had to bring herself to agree with Asher’s statement. “Sounds like a good idea to me. The world’s so big that I wouldn’t mind getting to know it a little better.” The squeeze was returned in kind and was followed by a playful smile. “I’d rather talk about what the two of us are going to do here now rather than what I did several months in the past on my own in the Digital World.” Probably for the best, wasn’t it?
In any case! It was probably random trivia time. “Did you know that the famous gondolas of Venice hadn’t been legally navigated by women for roughly nine-hundred years? It used to be a profession that passed from father to son. Until relatively recently, at least; and even then, I think only a single woman was able to successfully pass the course. A bit iffy if you ask me, but it’s not like there’s anything that can be really done about it.”
She didn’t really expect an answer to that bit of trivia, as slightly depressing as it was for such a symbol of the city to prolong less-than-optimal practices. Funnily enough, however, that was pretty coincidental with the events that unfolded next. A seemingly abandoned gondola, without its driver on sight. A bit of a golden opportunity, wasn’t it?
“Extremely funny, Asher.” Well, either that or a ticket for the couple to get arrested for stealing a state-owned vessel. A sarcastic tone probably would drive the point home! “I really hope he’s fine. I’d like to traverse the Canal without breaking the law if able.” Just a break, right? He’d be back at any moment.
“What should we do?” Time passed, and a whole lot of nothing happened. Did Asher feel like taking a risk? Would they just walk around and find another way to get to their destination? Or maybe a mystery suggestion the brunette wasn’t aware of? Anything could happen by this point.
