After her recovery from her arm surgery silence had an itch she just couldn’t scratch. She felt like she was doing something wrong; that she should be out and about. More so when she got the word that something was going on out in the desolate wastes that many mons made their homes in for whatever reason.
At least the branch that had some folks living out there; that they were stuck in the lower forms much like when the towers were spreading throughout the land. They didn’t know if an old one had activated or if something else had been brought to bear. Without a proper request however it was difficult for mission goers to really get a lock on things.
So rather than put forward an official request, silence instead took their offer to go look out there for more of a warm up than anything. If it was something that needed attention she’d give it. But if it turned out to be some tower, some new contraption or some mon’s sick way of trying to kick the hornet nest she’d give them one to think about.
Even as a rookie she was still extremely dangerous.
But she was definitely overconfident and there is a saying about overconfidence. That it was a slow and insidious killer. But silence never really seemed to think about it too much. Logically speaking she probably was the strongest here… right?
So the renamon found herself out on the wastes in the middle of the night, poking around with a hand held high. Little electrical fox wisps zipping around to keep it so she could see where she was going. Her expression was somber and her hood was flipped up. The jesmon goggles were flipped over her eyes so that the wind wouldn't bother her too much.
After taking a moment to adjust her bionic left arm the renamon grimaced. It was slightly larger for this form given that the damned thing was made for a shutmon but it would still perform well enough....
Maybe she should consider getting several various ones for each level...

The Renamon found herself out on the wastes in the middle of the night, poking around with a hand held high.
In the snowy hold of the north, the nights of the Tundra were long and brutal. Silence would feel the crunch of snow under her feet, and the biting wind even through her own thick coat of fur, the chill of the night making the bionic arm almost bitterly-cold to the touch. Out here in this desolate landscape, she came to investigate a rumor: that of a number of Digimon living out here, stuck in their rookie forms.
In retrospect, perhaps it would have been better to start this trek during the day.
Silence would start to see signs of civilization. The outskirts of the town had fenced off land and thick piles of snow around the sides, surrounding freshly tilled soil and small flags planted into the ground, marking where new seeds had been planted. And as she trekked further on in, she'd see the town itself. First the sheds, then the barns, each meant for working with the field, and then the town itself: simple, sturdy wooden buildings on either side of a single dirt road. The sign for the general store rattled and swung with the wind, as simple lanterns remained unlit, squeaking as they lightly moved in the breeze of the night.
A few buildings were darkened, and a few still had lights on inside, this sleepy town winding down for the night. One door would open, a Penguinmon waddling out to grab a bit of firewood, before he'd stop, and turn to face those dancing lights.
"Oh, dear..." The Penguinmon shook his head. "Come inside, miss! That shoulder of yours is liable to catch frostbite all the way out here!"
No concern, no worry - just a hospitable voice. What was this town?

The renamon had made her choice; figuring that while it was the most dangerous that was also the most likely time for things to be moving around. Frowning just a bit as she came across an outskirts of a village and well… She’d roll her bionic arm’s shoulder as she could feel the bite of the cold. If she was a higher level this would probably be nothing.
Raising her brow slightly as she approached she wasn’t sure what she was looking at. She couldn’t recall a town being out here or that one had even been set up. She’d bite the inside of her cheek and slowly approach. There were some that had lights, some that didn’t. Maybe…
Maybe it was okay here? She couldn’t really tell.
The renamon paused once however she was addressed by a Penguinmon that noted her dancing fox lights. She’d huff a bit and move forward, waving her hand after a few moments.
”Don’t worry I’m tougher than I look. Is this the town that put forward that request about some… rookie inhibitor nonsense?”
Silence wasn’t sure what to call it but approached anyways, her eyes firmly locked onto the penguin that was in front of her. That worry was genuine right? She’d glance behind her after a few long moments. If they pushed she’d probably come in but...

"A request?"
More than anything, the Penguinmon seemed confused by the Renamon's phrasing, the bird shaking his head. "Shouldn't be anything like that, unless the guild's really slow in processing their paperwork. Well, if you want to know about this place... mmm..."
The Penguinmon shot a glance up towards the sky. As always, dark clouds blotted out the moon, threatening a storm coming towards them.
"I'm afraid I must insist, miss. These plains won't be merciful to the strong willed." 'Push', the Penguimon would, opening his door for the Renamon to enter. And if she did, she'd be greeted with a slightly-chilly, but comparatively warm, log cabin. A single lantern was lit on a far table, as the Penguinmon moved to the back, carefully placing another log on the fire in the back. Afterwards, he would take a seat, the Penguinmon nodding to the cushion next to his.
"You've come such a long way to get here, but I fear it may be a wasted trip for you, Renamon." The bird gave a sigh. "Regardless, I suppose I should hear you out. How did you hear of this place? What is it you're aiming for?"

”Well they haven’t received one. This is the investigative party part. But they decided to send me to try to figure things out hook line and sinker.”
The renamon raised her brow a bit and padded after the penguinmon when he invited her to come inside. Chilly, but not overly so. Warm and a log cabin. Something that she could easily enjoy if she wasn’t here on business. She’d take a seat next to him and consider for a moment.
”Long way or not I have a job to do. Or rather a job that I’m willing to do. Names Silence by the way.”
How did she hear of this place? What was it that she was aiming for? Well she’d rub at her chin; eyeing the bird for a few long moments. If she just cut to the chase with all of this maybe he’d be a little more amicable or perhaps he’d be more worried…
”Well truth be told I haven’t heard of this town or village at all. What I’m aiming for is to figure out why in the local area everyone’s forced to be a rookie. It’s all around the countryside and a lot of people are upset. So basically I’m trying to figure out the cause or reason for it. This doesn’t usually just happen.”
Silence couldn’t help but give a shrug, glancing out of one of the nearby windows; she looked uncertain and she couldn’t help but wonder why the bird wasn’t more concerned about all this. If he even knew about it that was. Some mons never digivolved past rookie after all...

"Mm... an investigative party?"
The Penguinmon listened, carefully pressing a metal poker into the fire, letting the newly-placed log start to split apart at the touch. The bird didn't seem surprised by the Renamon's tone, or even her reason for being here: that 'everyone around the countryside' was being forced into their rookie state. "Ah, I see - the report must have come from people traveling nearby, rather than from our town directly. Yes, that would make more sense..."
Glancing out towards the same window, the bird would give his response. "I regret to inform you, however, that this is hardly an issue for us. Way out here in the tundra, the wilds are full of monsters, some of which would be able to rend through our town in a single day. But naturally, such beasts will not enter an area where they cannot advance. That we are all Rookie makes it much easier to defend ourselves. Everything is held equal, and we only need a guard or two to keep ourselves safe from the wild."
Calm. Logical. The Penguinmon spoke plainly, the bird not-at-all concerned with the circumstance. If anything, he thought it worked to this town's benefit.
"Thus, I must apologize again that you had to come all the way out here."

”That’s right. Well Investigative and a solvent party I guess. Two in one yanno?”
The renamon gave a small shrug; offering an honest smile while shifting in her seat. Tilting her head to one side as the bird started to explain what was going on. She’d slowly blink and sigh softly at hearing it. This would be a big issue if let spread.
”Well there in lay the issue. It’s spreading through the countryside. Which means that whatever you folks did isn’t stopping at a range but just growing. Which… isn’t a good thing.”
The fox rubbed at the back of her neck and found herself frowning as the other apologized that she had to come all the way out here. But what he didn’t seem to get was what she needed to do…
”Well the thing is that I can’t just leave without figuring out a way to close it down or make it so that it’s just beyond the town exterior. It’s not a problem if you guys are doing this but now that it’s spreading… I need to stop it from doing so.”
Doing the right thing was hard and the renamon obviously wasn’t happy with what she was going to have to suggest. Though she’d drum her fingers a bit and frown after a long few moments.
”I can however offer protection of a fairly high degree while we get things sorted out. I just need to make some calls and we can have folks here to set up something. But I need you to turn off whatever is doing this until it’s fixed.”

"Its not as if this is a populous countryside. And with the method we're using, its not as if the range is unlimited."
The bird, of course, listened to Silence's explanation - even if his answer was going to be to the negative. "Unfortunately, to turn 'off' the source would be to destroy it - not to mention disrupting the activity of this village. And if I may speak under the table, there are several here that would not be kind to governmental interference. This far off the grid, Digimon tend to get... 'untrustworthy', even if they mean well."
It seemed like a tricky subject for both parties, the bird taking a moment to see the storm. "If anything, its likely that the expansion is illusory. I imagine if the weather is clearer, the signal is stronger... hm. When the storm subsides, I would be happy to lead you to the source - provided you leave your armaments here in this cabin."
The tone the bird gave suggested that it would be required. If not, she'd likely have to find the source on her own.
"That is the best I can offer."

”Well it’s still affecting a longer range than just your village.”
Silence sighed a little bit and rubbed at her neck; that was the real problem here. She wanted to make it so that the area was safe yes but at the same time this still led to many issues. She could easily get a group here to protect the village if they let her.
”Hmm. I suppose you’re correct if that’s the case but it makes me wonder what the source is if it can’t just be turned off.”
Silence found herself frowning again and hearing that the storm was part of the reason it wasn’t so clear. With the clear areas being more affected… Well the renamon blinked when asked to leave her armaments in the cabin. She’d raise her brow and look at herself; what armaments. Her confusion was palatable and she’d sigh a bit.
”If you’re meaning my arm and cape… I’m not sure if I can take off the former so readily.”
She’d tsk a bit; it would be easy to leave her cards here and it would be even easier to leave her uniform. The thing was designed to be modular after all! She’d sigh a bit and eye the bird wondering if he was one of those ‘untrustworthy’ but… with him being so workable she could hardly think that!
”So in the morning we’re going then?”

"Of course, you can keep your arm with you. But the rest - you understand that we must be cautious."
With a nod, the Penguinmon would once more look out towards the storm. "It is not far, but a trek enough that this would be dangerous. Stay warm, and I will see you tomorrow." With that, the bird would step away, to set up something for dinner... ... And, thankfully, the following morning would be relatively clear.
Clear, in that there was no wind nor snow, but the weather was still overcast, casting a dark shadow onto the tundra - one that made it hard to make out the rocky path from the patches of slick ice, hidden away in the darkness. Thankfully, the walk was relatively flat, only having to go around a hill or two to find what they were looking for - hidden away just past a small, icy cliff. The Renamon and the Penguinmon would be overlooking a chain-link cage, a fence set up with a simple door at the front, a Flamedramon and a Raidramon acting as guards.
And just beyond the cage was a tower. A large, black obelisk - a Dark Spire. Amidst the floor inside the cage were several rings, produced by the spire, but caught by the chain links and made to uselessly fall, and break upon hitting the ground.
"This is why I was surprised this came up so recently. This tower has been here for years at this point." The bird shook his head. "Scary at first - but the best darn thing that ever happened to this place."

Silence was grateful she could at least keep her arm, that would make things a bit awkward. She didn’t feel the need to tell them that her uniform and cape didn’t do much other than just cover her from the cold. At this point they were more equipment than actual proper digivolution attire. That being said… if things went south she could always use something else.
”I understand perfectly. My fur is made for the north so don’t worry too much.
Silence appreciated the worry about her well being and the renamon would mull over what she could do depending on what she was shown…
Stepping outside and breathing out, the warm air to her would find her breath doing exactly the opposite of something ‘warm’. This renamon ran very cold; just like her entire line. Though that would be easily misunderstood by the ones around her. She’d pad after the penguinmon as they eventually found themselves overlooking a chain link cage. Fences set up and a door that would lead inside. A flamedramon and Raidramon acting as guards? Her eyes assessed the two and she’d furrow her brow slightly.
She’d look up to the obelisk and place her hands on her hips; she had memories of these things but she had also read about them. There weren’t any surviving ones to her knowledge and the renamon tutted a bit.
”I’ve read reports about these before; always appearing and claiming a guardian. No one had any idea what they were for just that they couldn’t digivolve around them to a point.”
The renamon stepped forward but wouldn’t push too far; standing a good ten feet away from the two guards; inspecting the tower from a distance. If it had been here for years that would explain a little bit and hearing the birds explanation made this difficult for the renamon.
”A surviving Dark spire would definitely be something the egg heads in many cities would want to see or research more thoroughly. Tch.”
The renamon folded her arms and considered her options; she could communicate with the ones back in vander tower for what she should do or further yet inform those that she ‘served’ more properly. It’d be a first for sure but she also wasn’t sure if she should sacrifice the safety… but then there was the danger of this spire getting out of the citzen’s control.
”The last one of these to fall was a long time ago, how much do you know about it?”

For now, Silence kept her distance. The two guards acknowledged her presence, but so long as she stayed away from the fence, both the Flamedramon and Raidramon would simply stand guard - though that didn't mean they'd be silent. The Flamedramon shook his head:
"You sure this is a good idea, birdy? The less people know about this, the better."
"Its beyond me at this point. The city's already aware that this place has become a no-digivolution zone - if we didn't bring it forward and they came down to scout it out themselves, we'd be looking at some pretty tough sanctions." That got a 'tsk' from the fire lizard, but he didn't argue further - the Penguinmon had a good point. He'd turn his attention back to the Renamon.
"We know about as much about these things as any other Digimon - or any other 'egg-head' that you speak of, really. The spires were brought here and controlled by some... ne'er-do-well Digimon of some type. He was stopped, most of the towers were knocked down, and as far as we're concerned, that's that."
"Besides, this spire's hardly in a nuisance area. And if it becomes a problem," the Penguinmon pointed to the top of the cliff, "Flamedramon here can shoot a fireball and collapse the whole thing, breaking the tower in an avalanche. We also have three guards rotating to keep a watch on this place - we know better than to take our eyes off of it."
"Well, that's the long and short of it, fox. Sorry ya had to waste your time on this."

Silence stared up at the spire for a few moments, weighing what she had to do here. The information presented seemed like it was a good idea for the safety of the village here. But the issue was that the longer the spire stayed around the larger it’s field of influence was likely to become. Sure there was likely a plateau somewhere but she realistically had no idea where that’d be.
”To be fair I’m basically the scout they sent at this point. Given that who I’m supposed to report to is from the primary city in this area.”
Silence gave a small shrug and turned her head to the penguinmon; they’d explain further about the spire and she’d cross her arms. Huffing as she was once again treated to the ‘sorry to waste your time’ spheal. She wasn’t having that and just waved her hand dismissively.
”It’s just not that easy you see. I can’t just leave with that sort of reassurance. But I’m not the sort to threaten the safety of a village like this just cause of ‘big bad obelisk’.”
Punctuating that fact she’d step forward and point at the two guards; her face hardening into that of someone that had resigned themselves to a battle.
”I’ll give you an option though; we fight. You prove yourself that you can handle this area and you can keep the obelisk. But if I win I destroy it. BUT. I’m not going to just let you have nothing in the venue of protection.”
Silence would draw out from her chest a small cube and would dig around in it; providing what seemed to be a smooth flat remote of some kind. Her eyes were incredibly determined and the sheer intensity that followed was nothing short of admirable…
”I give you one of these which are a direct SOS portal to the knights headquarters; in such a time that your village comes under attack we would respond immediately. You have my word as a knight of the rose. But even if you don't agree to either term I'm not leaving unless that gets handled one way or another.”

It wouldn't be that easy?
The Flamedramon shot the Renamon a glare, crossing his arms at the Renamon's dismissive nature. The Penguinmon was more amicable, listening to the Renamon's terms. She did have a duty to report, after all - and if someone else came along and saw the tower, and saw that she didn't report it, she might get in bigger trouble in the long run.
That said:
"A fight?" The Flamedranon laughed! "Get off it, fox. You got a good look in your eyes, but I'm a whole level and a whole head-and-shoulders above you. And you're not gonna get that bird-brain to scrap with you."
"I believe I did warn you, Renamon. Many who came to this town... well, they aren't the most trustworthy of the cities or of government. They truly believe that this tower is the best way that they can handle themselves. Even the portal you're offering is able to be tracked - I guarantee that it would find itself broken under a shovel within the hour."
Yes, this place was difficult - but presently, the town felt that it held all the cards. "Let's make one thing clear, fox... you want to talk tough?" The flame-dragon's eyes sharpened up, looking right down into Silence's own.
"For us, protecting this is life and death. You'd do better if you didn't threaten it."

Silence placed the remote back into her cube after hearing that laugh, she knew that the flamedramon wouldn’t want to or that they would roll with her suggestion afte that. She’d stare up at the flamedramon and snort softly.
”Higher level or not, head and shoulders or not. I still have a job to do.”
She’;d turn her head to the penguinemon. Hearing that didn’t really help her case at all. She’d sigh softly and shake her head pointing at the penguinemon.
”That doesn’t change the fact of things, I still have to report this. I still have to tell someone what I saw and what I offered. I am being nice in offering this and a different option. If the mission guild got wind of a tower proper here you really think they’re just going to let it sit? No. They’ll get a bunch of humans to do what I couldn’t do. And if I don’t return they’ll send someone far more serious and invested in this than I.”
Silence looked back up to the flamedramon, folding her arms across her chest. Talking tough? Protecting it was life and death? She wasn’t threatening it so much as speaking the truth.
”Suggesting that I wouldn’t follow up on my words then? I don’t just talk tough Flamedramon. I live it. Every single day. For every single place in this entire world. If I didn’t take this seriously I couldn’t take anywhere seriously.”
She’d stare up at the flamedramon; meeting his gaze and not even flinching at it. She had faced life and death situations enough times where it would be reflected in her eyes.
”I’d do better if I had just stayed in rosewood; doing paperwork or just being a guard. But instead I stepped out into the world to try to protect it from threats. Threats I see right there.”
She’d point at the tower; her eyes never straying from the flamedramons. A sort of intense sort of glare meeting flamedramons.
”So are you going to take my offer or not? Or find some kind of other middle ground?”
