"Aren't we going to the park, Kai? I feel like I've been in this bag forever!" Kai glanced around, but it was dark and there was no one to hear him holding a conversation with his bag. "No, I thought we'd try somewhere else for a change. Be quiet." The truth was, it felt like every time he went to the park it ended with him running into Digimon in one way or another. Maybe the forest would be thick enough to keep him out of trouble while Shiro let out some energy.
He disappeared into the depths of the forest. Maybe it was because of the time, but it was a lot easier to find a solitary spot here than in the park. Shiro happily thew himself from Kai's bag and began running around. He definitely didn't like being cooped up. Kai's room was just too small for such a free spirited Digimon. "Don't wander too far," he warned the small white Digimon. It didn't matter, Shiro would run off wherever he wanted anyways. Warning him was just self-satisfaction.
Kuro, Shiro's sister, needed no such warning. She let Kai sit down under a tree, and curled up in his lap contentedly. Kai himself, despite the dim lighting, pulled some books out of his bag and started studying. All this Digimon stuff had done a number on his grades, and he needed to spend more time studying.

Lopmon sort of liked this forest. It's a good thing too; he'd wandered in and wasn't sure how he got there. He trotted along on the ground when he could, disappearing up into the branches of the trees whenever he heard something approach. He hadn't needed to hide much; it was so very quiet here. How surprising to find a place of such peace in this world. He thought it a credit to these humans they hadn't turned this little forest into another of their steel and concrete mountains. He was wandering a path when he heard a voice somewhere up ahead. The only natural thing to do was investigate... Lopmon flared his ears and leaped up to the lowest tree branches where he could glide along easily and silently.
There, in that clearing ahead. Lopmon stopped on the edges of the small clearing, looking down on the young human below him and his two- those were digimon! Why they were everywhere in this world. He peered closer, unable to identify the twins. Doing so caused his ears to drop and hang below the branch, casting their shadow on the human sitting at the base of the tree he was in.

A shadow falling over his books prompted Kai to look up. It was dark enough with the trees blocking out the moonlight. He should have thought to bring a light source. Wait, was that Loli? The small Digimon in the trees looked extremely similar to the partner of his friend, Yui. But no, that wasn't quite right. He'd learned his lesson from meeting Steve and his partner Terriermon, who looked like Yui's other partner, Pop. The eartips were the wrong color.
Soon after his tamer noticed the creature in the tree, his overactive partner also caught wind of it. The white Digimon wiggled its haunches, then leapt into the branches of the tree. "Heya! Loli? No... Not Loli?" Shiro always had trouble telling the difference between similar looking different, and the confusion was definitely present in his voice. The face was right, but the smell was wrong. And something else was off, but the Digimon just couldn't put his paw on it.

Lopmon watched Shiro's leap up to the tree with curiosity and an odd stillness. He shifted on the branch as Shiro landed lightly next to him, turning to the catlike digimon and bowing his head ever so slightly. "Not 'Loli,'" he said. "Lopmon. It is nice to meet you. I've never seen one of you before." He studied Shiro for a moment with those big bunnydog eyes, then spun and leaped off the branch, ears wide and flaring to slow his fall. He dropped lightly to the ground before Kai, peering at Kuro with similar curiosity. "Nor have I seen one of you. You are quite beautiful. I am Lopmon. It is good to meet you," he said softly, once again bowing his head a little in an adorable show of respect.
"Is this your human, little digimon?"

Shiro raised his head with pride. Pride, that someone had finally recognized the true order of the world. "That's right! My human! You'll have to find your own!" "Our human, dear brother," Kuro corrected. She was flattered by the other Digimon's comment on her beauty, but refused to let it show. There was no reason to get flattered over the truth, after all. "It is nice to meet you, Lopmon. I am KoKuromon, and my brother there is KoShiromon." "That's right! I'm Shiro, she's Kuro!" Shiro dropped to the ground. Kai considered adding something, but there wasn't much to say. He wondered if Lopmon's tamer was somewhere around here.

"It is nice to meet you, Kuro and Shiro and Kuro and Shiro and Kuro's Human. I've been exploring this world. I was surprised to find so many digimon. You're the first person I've seen with two, though. You must be siblings." He peered down at the book Kai had been reading, his gaze scanning over it for a moment before looking up to meet the human's. "Do you have a name as well? I do not think you're all called 'Human.' Though I do not know, the only other one I met that had a digimon partner was very angry and unwilling to communicate. I believe she found the world offensive." He shrugged, a motion both solemn and adorable. Like a stuffed animal that's seem some things.
"Your world is very interesting human. I did not expect to find this peaceful little forest here. It is lucky I like it is I am not sure of the way out..." he admitted with a self-conscious twitch of those massive ears.

Kai found himself struggling to understand the Digimon's thought process. It had been wandering this world... Did that mean it didn't have a partner? Hadn't found a partner yet? Had a partner that let it roam? "Sorry, sorry. My name's Kai. Do you not have a human partner?" he asked. He knew partnerless Digimon existed, he had even met some. But not in the human world. He'd heard of them showing, of course, but always as villains who were aiming to steal the data of defenseless Digimon, like Kuro and Shiro. Still, this was Lopmon, like Loli. It shouldn't be that much stronger than Kuro and Shiro, right?
"If you're lost, we'll be happy to guide you out! Right, Kai!" Shiro didn't think nearly as much as Kai did. After all, even if Lopmon was a villain, Shiro would just beat it out of him! Shiro was the strongest Digimon, after all, no matter what Kai might think! "Err, yeah. Sure. If you want us to." If Kai refused, he knew Shiro would try on his own. ANd the last thing he needed was two Digimon wandering around the forest without knowing where they were going.

Lopmon shook his head. "No, no human. It is just me. Sometimes I help new digieggs find their way in the world. Or their partner. Sometimes I make the sick..." he thought for a moment. "Less sick. It is nice to meet you, Kai. I have enjoyed my visit to your but it is very loud, and very tall. It was easy to lose myself in the forest. Lucky for me you came along the path." He was strangely calm, for a Lopmon. Not emotionless, just... rather restrained. It was mildly disconcerting, that grave an air on the cute, fuzzy little bunny. dog.
"If you would not mind company on your way out of the forest, I would not be a disruptive companion. I can brew tea." This last fact seemed important.

So Lopmon didn't have a partner. Didn't have one, or hadn't found one yet? Digimon didn't seem to follow a consistent logic. Some had partners, others didn't. What determined which was which? Trying to figure out Digimon logic always gave him a headache, but not knowing annoyed him even more. But was there anyone in the world who had the answers? He certainly wouldn't be figuring it out on his own. Someone else might be good enough to do that, but he wasn't.
"Tea, blech." The white cat-like Digimon was not a fan of the drink. Mostly because he didn't wait for it to cool, and had a very sensitive tongue. "Tea... Would be nice," said Kuro, who was far more patient than her brother. "Alright, it's settled. We'll lead you outta here." He beckoned to the Lopmon after putting his books away, as he started heading out of the forest. Kuro curled up around his shoulders, and Shiro bounded off in front as if he was leading the way.

Lopmon walked along patiently with Kai, his ears wrapped around him like a monk's cloak. The effect was grave, a little austere, and of course. Still adorable. He trotted along watching Shiro romp with reserved kindness, and asked Kuro and Kai questions regarding their tea preferences. While they talked, he would occasionally rifle through a small leather bag hanging at his right hip. It was hard to notice, usually obscured as it was by his ears. He was friendly, if a little reserved, and very polite. He seemed very fond of Kuro and Shiro and by extension Kai.
"I am sorry to have interrupted your study of- that," he said eventually, waving at Kai's bookbag. "It seemed very important."

"Oh, don't worry about it. nothing I can't do tomorrow. Besides, it's a bit dark for reading." Sure, Kai had come here rather than the more well-lit park in the hopes of avoiding Digimon encounters, but he wasn't going to be rude just because his plans had failed. It was a shame, but he'd have to study later. Between Digimon and club activities, time was a scarce resource, though. He'd never surpass anyone at this rate, least of all Renji. But that was his fault. If he wasn't finding the time to study, that just meant he wasn't trying hard enough. "Yeah, don't worry about it! It's not important!
Kai ignored Shiro's incorrect statement. "So, Lopmon, how'd you get into this world? I assume you didn't just hop on a Trailmon." He was curious. Maybe Lopmon had taken the train. Or there was the river portal. He couldn't figure out how that River Portal worked, though. It seemed to exist at random places in the Digital World, but only one in the Human World. Maybe Lopmon's story would shed some light on the mysteries of the Digital World.

"Rarely have I ridden the Trailmon," he answered after a long pause. His gaze drifted out somewhere ahead of them, very far away. "I walk the Worlds. I help where I can. It can be difficult; I am small," he explained, as if Kai wouldn't have noticed. "I will not always be. I seek outer peace in pursuit of inner peace. Sometimes when I walk, I end up here. I believe it is when I am needed. Or at least may prove useful."
He peered at Kai curiously. "Maybe I can help you? I make good tea," he reminded them. "I know things. Some things. I can share."

Kai didn't really get it, but Lopmon said that he 'walked the worlds.' Not by Trailmon, was Lopmon capable of travelling unaided? Were all Digimon capable of that? Or was Lopmon special? Inconsistencies like this were why Digimon logic always gave him a headache. And it sounded like Lopmon had no control over his power. If it was his power. Overall, it was just confusing.
Kai had so many questions, he couldn't even put forward one to ask first when Lopmon offered. How exactly did Digimon work!? What was the Digital World! How did travel between the Digital and Human worlds work!? What determined when Digimon digivolve!? What determined what Digimon digivolved to!? The questions went on and on, and he couldn't decide what to ask first.
"Ha! Tea doesn't help anyone! Let's play! I'll race you out of the forest!" The edge of the forest was in sight, and Shiro ran for it without even giving Lopmon a chance to respond. So much for asking questions. Kai grinned at the sillyness of his partner Digimon, even if Shiro's actions made it feel awkward for him to ask questions. "Go on, race him. He'll never let it go if you don't."

Lopmon watched Shiro running off and looked up to regard Kai with patience. He was supposed to race Shiro. On these legs. He turned back to watch the retreating form of Shiro, shrugged, and bounded into action. It was actually a little shocking how quickly he sprang into action, ears snapping out to catch the air and throwing him towards a nearby tree-trunk. He planted his little feet on it and sprang away, ears flaring to catch the wind and boost him higher in the air. He bounced from branch to branch this way, not bothering to race on Shiro's terms. The cat-like digimon was far more suited to running. Jumping, though... that was Lopmon's thing.
Using his odd combination of bouncing, jumping and gliding, Lopmon made up some of the distance between them. Dropping down below the tree line with his ears spread wide, he glided along a short ways behind and above Shiro. His voice, though he didn't raise it, was easy to make out:
"Why are we racing? What are we racing to?"

Kai smiled as he watched the Digimon race. He hadn't been sure Lopmon would go for it, the Digimon was more than a little bit strange. It was good to know that that didn't stop it from having a friendly race. Kuro, on his shoulder, also watched the Digimon run off. She maintained the silence that Kai had come to expect of her.
"Why? For fun, of course! For fun! You're silly, Not-Loli! First one out of the forest wins!" Shiro dashed forward. It was wide open out there, but fortunately, there were no humans. Nothing to make Kai call him and Lopmon back for the sake of safety. Oh, and Shiro was going to win! He was sure of it!
