Nakano ran down the street, chasing a white cat that only she could see. She wasn't sure why that boy couldn't, but she would have to be hearing and seeing things, which was unlikely. She had managed to follow the cat to the river where it then jumped through a portal. Nakano slowed to a stop. "I must be dreaming," she muttered. Hesitantly, she stepped through the portal...
And the scenery changed to a lush forest. Sitting on the ground facing the portal was the cat that jumped onto the table back at the cafe. The cat then gave of a bright light before turning into some sort of totem before flying right at her. Before she could react, she was wrapped in a some sort of cocoon. When the cocoon gave way to the forest around her, she felt fine, but everything around her seemed... bigger.
She scratched her head, but stopped when she felt her hand was much larger compared to her head than it had been before. Looking at her hand, or rather paw, she saw that it was adorned in a large, clawed, yellow glove. Her eyes widened in shock before giving herself a once over. She had become some sort of twin tailed cat! "This must be a dream," she concluded.
Nope, not a dream.
Nakano jumped as a voice sounded inside her head. She looked around in search of the voice. Oh don't bother looking for me. I'm you, or rather you're me now. I'm glad I was able to find someone who could see me, and you already have your D-Tector too. Nakano stood silent for a few moments, trying to process the information she was given. Explain, she thought back.
I'm the consciousness of a Gatomon X that was recently deleted by another Digital Monster, or Digimon for short. Now my older sister is in trouble somewhere, so I became a Spirit Totem to travel to your world from the Digital World. Now, by merging with you, I can allow you to take my form, but only you can help me take physical form, the spirit explained.
Unfortunately, we're not strong enough together to to help my sister, Darcie, so we need to hire a mercenary that can help us. In exchange for helping me, I'll give you my form to call on at any time, but on one condition. What would your condition be? Nakano asked. Simple. Just spend the rest of the day in my body. Sounds easy enough, right?
Nakano pondered this, a hand-paw raised to her mouth. I won't be getting any choice, I presume, Nakano replied. Nope. C'mon, we can catch a train to Terminus at the Village of Beginnings! ...Um, that would be to your, or should I say our, left, the spirit shot back. Well I suppose I would need to get used to this body anyway. ...I'm going to get involved with a lot situations that are not my concern, aren't I?
Yup! Nakano sighed as she began walking off to her left. Then I may as well get your name. What did you used to call yourself? Nakano asked. I was Lissa when I was alive. ...Er you might want to practice moving on four legs instead of just two. You'll be much faster that way. Nakano stopped. Lissa was right. Nakano would have to remember that she was a cat now, and one that was apparently both bipedal and quadrupedal at that.
She carefully adjusted her stance and fell onto all fours. There you go, now just take it one step at a time to get used to it, Lissa said. It's like learning how to walk all over again, Nakano stated as she began to walk ever so carefully forward. It was indeed like learning how to walk. Each step she took was slow and careful. Once she was finally comfortable, she moved up to a walking pace.
This is going to be a long day, Nakano sighed mentally. It won't be that bad. We just need to make some new friends, and we'll be all set for helping Darcie, though some training from a Digimon that has a body of his or her own might help with learning how to fight in my body, Lissa replied. Eventually, Nakano came upon the Village of Beginnings. From there it was a simple matter of catching a train to Terminus.
