A Relaxing Day in the Forest [John/Maia] (Open)
|
Post by John Davis on Feb 11, 2016 8:55:38 GMT
"My, my. What a beautiful day outside." These words would pass John's lips while he walked down a natural pathway through the Shibuki Forest. Lucky for him, the forest was situated about a few minute's walk away from Itsuke's house, whom he was a tenant of. He certainly enjoyed the fresh air that passed through his lungs.
After a long day of work, this hike was something that John needed as relaxation. He smiled softly while the ambiance of the forest setting played beautifully around him. Among the forest accents, birds were chirping and whistling here and there, and the soft bubbling of a creek could be heard nearby. Adding to the beauty of nature, the sun's rays shone down through the leaved of the trees, creating a trickling light onto the forest floor.
After trudging along his nature hike, John entered a small clearing. Within the circular glade resided a small pond surrounded by an assortment of rocks. Aside from the pond was a large beech tree by itself. "Ah, that looks like a good place to rest for now." John's legs were getting a bit sore, and a small break wouldn't hurt anybody. His mind was made up. John walked to the tree, and sat down beside it, leaning his back against the hard bark. It was time for him to relax.

Maybe another trip to the forest hadn't been such a great idea. Since arriving, Kyaromon had successfully gotten into a puddle of mud, made a commotion about it being in his fur, and promptly fell into the creek, and then decided that the best way to dry was on tree branches too high up for Maia to pull him off of. And, of course, he was still doing that. Each time the girl would reach for the tiny alien, he would bound to another branch on a nearby tree. At least nobody could say that he didn't have a decent leap.
"You're going to get sick!" she hissed to the Digimon in the trees, trying to follow him as he scurried away. "And, I won't make you any more snacks if you do!" That seemed like a sufficient threat. How could the little monster reject the only thing that he enjoyed eating? Instead, Kyaromon would only giggle at her and continue his little game. He knew she wouldn't be serious. Plus, it wasn't like he knew what 'sick' was, anyway. He was essentially a toddler! If it weren't for the giggles, Maia wouldn't even be able to tell where the monster was half the time!
Now, they were coming close to a clearing, and the monster leaped to a taller tree, letting out a little, "oof!" before scrambling up the bark and into the bushy leaves. Maia was about to scold him again, when she realized that there was actually someone in the clearing. Well, crud. Now, she had to be more careful about what she was doing. Why was it that the forest never seemed empty? The blonde really needed to expect this more. "Oh. Uh. Hello." It was polite not to sneak up on people, right? Even if she had been in the middle of something.

Before Maia and her Digimon had entered the clearing, the gentle nature if the forest had caused John to drift into a relaxing nap. His arms were crossed while he snoozed. Soon enough, John was on the verge of delving into REM sleep.
However, some movement and chatter nearby stirred John from his nap. His eyes shot open to the sight of a blonde-haired girl. John stretched, and yawned. "Hi." He replied. He now stood, and dusted off the few blades of grass that clung to the back of his clothes.
"It's a beautiful day out here, huh?" John asked the newcomer. "I should have expected people to be out and bout. What brings you out here?"

"Oh, yeah, it's a great day," the girl started, glancing around the clearing. She swore, Kyaromon just liked to throw her into awkward situations. There was no way the big-eared Digi hadn't known a person was going to be where he had led her! Chances are, he was using it as a way to get some more play time before she would inevitably force him to go home. Still, he was going to get chewed out for this later.
Glancing around the nearby trees, Maia let out a sigh. At least the monster was good at staying hidden. That was also a sign that this person wasn't affiliated with Digimon. It seemed that, somehow, the little monsters had a good nose for their own kind. "Just taking a walk. Enjoying the wildlife. Thought I saw a rabbit." Yes. Rabbits. Because Kyaromon's big ears reminded her of them. If rabbits were actually indigenous to the Shibuya area was beyond her, but she knew there had to be at least some in Japan, in general. Except, the flaw with that was Kyaromon was in the trees, and rabbits lived on the ground. Oh, little details.
Really, this all felt pretty stupid. Maia wasn't entirely sure where her partner had fled to, and now she was stuck talking to a stranger that couldn't even know about the critter on the loose. At least if she had run into a tamer, she wouldn't have to pretend that she was in the forest for any other reason. Oh well, though. What could she do about it? Considering the circumstances, it was better to just go with that she was enjoying the scenery. Which, in all fairness, she would have been doing, if Kyaromon would stay in one general area to play. "Did I interrupt you napping?"

John offered a smile and waved a hand dismissively to Maia. "Yes, I was. But don't worry about it." He was giving off an air of friendliness to the girl. "I hadn't been asleep for long. No harm done."
John continued to keep the grin on his face. "You saw a rabbit, huh? Did it happen to be a white rabbit with a watch in it's paw, exclaiming that he was late for a very important date?" This was of course a joke, as he was referencing to the rabbit from Alice in Wonderland.
John approached Maia, now. Once he was within arm's reach, he extended his right hand to her, offering a greeting handshake. "My name is John. What's yours?"

Reaching up, the girl adjusted her bangs a bit, to shuffle them away from her eyes. Giving a small smile, Maia shook her head, "not quite. It sure did seem to be in a hurry, though!" But, she couldn't say that the rabbit hadn't been talking, because Kyaromon certainly had a mouth on him! Honestly, the little monster was being strangely quiet now. Where was he? The blonde couldn't even look around to find out, otherwise it would be suspicious.
Oh, and now it was introduction time! It sure felt like she was doing that a lot lately. Maia placed her hand in the stranger's, giving a small shake. "I'm Maia. It's nice to meet you?" Was it, in fact, nice? Who knew. Maybe it would be awful. Particularly if her Digimon found a way to be obnoxious. Maybe, she should try to say that it was her pet. But, then what if he offered to help her find him? That could end badly. Rabbits didn't have purple on them. Nor did they talk.
"Not to sound like I'm about to fall down a rabbit hole or something, but you didn't see it, did you?" As crazy as the question would sound, Maia wasn't actually positive that he hadn't caught a glimpse of the monster. She could only hope that he hadn't.

After pondering for a moment, John crossed his arms and looked downward toward the grass in thought. "Hrmmm. No, I can't say that I have seen a rabbit." John now returned his gaze toward Maia. He did not in fact think that this girl was starting to lose her sanity.
"Well, I did hear some sort of scraping on the bark as I was coming to." The blue-eyed man mused. "But I don't think that it was the bunny rabbit that you're looking for. Maybe it was a squirrel?" He shrugged softly.
"I don't know. Last I checked, rabbits don't climb trees. They certainly can't jump that high, anyway. But I'd love to help you look for it." A smile returned to John's expression. "Who knows? It could be fun!"

Thank goodness. Kyaromon hadn't been found out! "Oh, no, no. That's fine," Maia instantly began refusing the offer. "I was just curious. I don't want any adventures in Wonderland." Or at all, for that matter. She'd been refusing Kyaromon's requests for adventure for quite some time, now. Thankfully, the not-so-strange stranger had thought he had heard a squirrel, rather than seeing a Digimon. So far, so good! Kyaromon wasn't found out!
That is, until... "Egg! I see an egg!" screeched from the tree, and suddenly there was a splash of something landing in the water. Oh no. And, of course, it was followed up with, "I can't swim!" as Kyaromon splashed his way out of the pond that was in the clearing. Even though, thinking about it, she had watched the Digimon swim before. Maybe it was because he had just thrown himself from a very high tree branch into a mass of water. After all, she certainly hadn't encouraged diving before. "It's gonna drown! Someone! Save it! Where's Superman when you need him?" the tan and purple rabbit shouted, tail and ears dripping, but alert. "Humans! Hither! Egg in need! When did 'hither' become part of the In-Training's vocabulary?
More importantly, the little monster was out in the open, now. This was a problem that Maia wasn't sure how to address. Especially because the rabbit had fallen from a tree and was talking. This was going to take some serious thought and reprimand. But, which was she supposed to address here? The talking rabbit monster or the fact that, once she walked closer to the pond, there was actually a decent-sized egg in it? Looking across from the egg to Kyaromon, then John, the girl shot a very questioning look. "Okay, um," she started, not really sure what to work with here, "did you put... an egg here?" Yes. Please, just ignore the talking bunny.

John did not at all expect another voice to be heard while he was conversing with Maia. What he really didn't expect, was some little, round, fluffy creature to leap out of the tree he was previously napping under, which in turn splashed into the small pond. "Is...That the rabbit you were speaking of?" John asked Maia while raising a right pointed index finger toward the now swimming Kyaromon. Now getting a better look, John's eyes widened in wonder. "Wait a second. That's not a rabbit. What is that thing?" It certainly was no white rabbit wearing a fancy vest that held a pocket watch which was cartoonishly too big for it. But then, the Kyaromon began to frantically shout for assistance with whatever it's endeavor could be. "Hold on. An egg? In the water!?" He wasn't believing what he was hearing. So many questions began to race through the man's mind, but they had to wait! Whatever this furry creature was, it needed help saving the egg! It was certainly making sure that it's pleas were heard. "Hang on!" John shouted, quickly running up to the pond. He peered into the water, seeing that there was indeed an egg; albeit a large one. Without wasting any more time, John knelt onto his knees, and plunged his hands into the pond's cool water. This would cause some of the colorful Koi fish to scatter away from the foreign objects that were invading their humble abode. Due to the water surface refracting the light that penetrated it, the egg itself was hard to make out. But, John had grasped onto it, and gently pulled it from the murky, sandy bottom. Now that it was out of harm's way, John looked upon it inquisitively. "Huh. They don't celebrate Easter in Japan, right?" He asked Maia while he stood up. This was certainly peculiar. The egg itself was a beautiful white, with red jagged stripes encircling it. Oops! John completely forgot about the fury critter that claimed it was drowning! John cradled the egg in his right hand, and knelt back down, scooping the poor little guy in his free left hand! He set the Kyarmon gently on the ground. But now, he wasn't sure what to inspect first! The egg, or this little animal.

"Uh. That, that does look like what I was following," Maia shifted her gaze to the treeline. What a hassle. Kyaromon could never let her have an easy day! Why couldn't the digimon at least look a little more normal? After all, it seemed like everyone else had critters that could pass for cats or old wooden decor! Why not this little monster? Hopefully that wasn't a sign that he would just become more obnoxious with each level.
The blonde watched as John pulled the egg from the pond, and assisted Kyaromon, who would quickly scoot behind his tamer's feet. There was a mumbled, "Sorry, Maia," as the tiny monster continued dripping and looking somewhat devastated. But, he couldn't just let the egg drown! Could eggs drown? "I couldn't not try to save it," he added, glumly. Or, at least, the most upset that the girl had heard him yet. After all, he had slipped up pretty bad by being spotted by a regular person. What if the 'people' came to take him away, like there had been implication?
Not all was lost, though, with the distraction on the egg. Maia would quickly pull off her scarf and drop it onto the soaked alien at her feet. At least it hid him a little, and would help dry him off in the process. Also, once her hands were free, she raised them, palms forward, to try to make it clear that she was not going too much closer to that egg. "Well, that's probably yours now. I don't know if that's how it works, but I'm pretty sure it's mother isn't coming for it, and I'm not taking it home with me." No, she had way too much on her plate with Kyaromon.

John wasn't entirely sure what to do with the egg that was now in his hands. 'Um." This was all new to him. It certainly wasn't every day that a strange, fairly large egg was just lying around. He couldn't quite tell what sort of creature would be inside of it. John turned to look at Maia. He had a somewhat unsure expression on his face. "But...What exactly is it an egg of? It's too small to be an ostrich egg." John conveyed to the girl. "And it was just in the water, Wouldn't that mean that this egg is...Well, dead?" There was a hint of worry in his voice.
Although, wasn't there just a little furry creature that he had recently pulled from the pond? "Hey, where did that creature go?" John inquired. "It was just here. You saw it too, didn't you?" He looked a little disappointed now. "It didn't leave, did it?" Thinking that the creature was now gone, the man was now a little forlorn. "That's a shame. It was really adorable. Wait..." He now looked down toward Maia's feet. She had recently dropped her scarf, which was weird. Upon closer inspection, John could see the little parts of Kyaromon peeking out from under the fabric.
John now looked into Maia's eyes, and offered a soft, warm smile. "Hey, it's okay. You don't have to try to hide him from me. I think he's, well, pretty neat!" Without warning, a light blue small cloud of data appeared in front of the man while he continued to cradle the egg. When the data cloud dissipated, a strange cellphone-like device floated in it's place. "Huh? What's this?" John reached for it, and now held it in his hand. The man was utterly amazed as he surveyed it.

The little trick had almost worked, it seemed. But Kyaromon just couldn't fit under a scarf all that well. One ear twitched out from under the cloth, along with wide eyes. "Not in trouble?" he squeaked, seeming to be instantly much happier. Maia shot him a glare, to remind him that he was still going to be reprimanded, but she still let out a sigh and scooped him up with the scarf. Instant warmth from human contact! This made the tiny rabbit-thing excited, and he let out a little squeak. After all, it was cold when he was dripping!
"Well, look at that," the tamer mumbled, mostly to her digimon. "You just got off insanely lucky. Looks like he's a tamer," to this, the digimon would let out another happy squeak. Shuffling a little away from the pond, Maia began to rub the monster's fur with her scarf, trying to find a way to dry him out. He really was going to get sick. This was riduclous! "That's called a digivice," she pointed out to the new tamer. "Also, I'd take it as a big assumption that your egg is alive. And, it's very much yours." Thank goodness! She could not handle a second Kyaromon! Though, the color of the egg was definitely different than hers had been. "I'm betting those eggs don't actually need air. Or it just showed up there. They're just digital, after all." This sounded surprisingly nonchalant, given that she had been quite concerned over her own monster just moments before.
"I'm adorable, Maia!" Kyaromon attempted to shout, but ended up with a face full of scarf. "That guy said so! Can we keep him?" Again, more of the scarf was in his face. Surely, this was just the tamer's way of showing affection for the alien, right?
"No. You can't keep people," she huffed, before looking back to John. "You'll find out what's inside when it hatches. It's a big surprise." Oh, most definitely. All Digimon seemed pretty different, after all! "The species seems to be called Digimon, if it helps at all." Of course, knowing an impossible to understand creature's type was... pretty useless.

John was trying very hard to keep in the laughter that was building up from the cute little Kyaromon's antics. But it was no use. He busted out laughing, if only for a moment, as a short burst of merriment. "Aww, he's so cute! And funny, too!" John chuckled to himself. It was time to recollect his original composure. After all, this was a pretty big set of news hat had just been revealed to him.
John's eyes were now fixated on the Digivice's screen. "Digimon, huh? Creatures made of data. This is pretty heavy." He pocketed the device. John had so many questions. "Hey, Maia?" He added. "I have millions of questions about all of this. And you seem like a really nice person. You seem to know a lot about this kind of thing. Would you like to be friends?"
His eyes had a glint of hope within them. "I mean, since we're both tamers as you call it, it only make sense that we stick together." The new Tamer had no objections to making new friends. Especially being a newcomer to the country, he could certainly need some friends to spend time with. "What do you say?"

"It's very heavy. It's totally understandable if you need some time to process it," the tamer stated, as she rolled her Digimon onto his back to try to dry his feet. After all, it was inevitable that he would try to climb on her and she didn't need little wet marks all over her clothes. For some reason, everyone seemed to handle getting digimon way better than Maia, though. She still had a hard time fully understanding what was happening! But Yuuto and John both seemed to take this responsibility so well!
Or, maybe, they didn't realize what kind of responsibility there was. Friends? Uh," Maia threw a glance at Kyaromon, who was busy giggling at his feet being dried. Maybe, he was ticklish! "Sure. I don't know how much help I'll really be, though. Kyaromon's only an In-Training, so... he's not really strong yet." Yet. That concept could be terrifying, on it's own. Neither tamer or partner had any idea what the digivolutions would hold for the monster. Though, Maia was in no hurry to find out. "Don't bother with searching the internet, though. Nothing really turns up." After all, she had already tried that method of learning. It seemed like someone wanted to keep the creatures under wraps. Anything that did, didn't seem too relevant to her.
"But, yeah. More people probably make it more safe," she agreed, "Digimon can be dangerous." Maia wouldn't go into unwarranted detail, however. Nobody wanted to know that their new pet could very easily break someone's ribs and puncture organs in one bite.
And, of course, Kyaromon had to add in a playful, "rawr!" for emphasis.

This was definitely turning out to be an amazing day for John. He has not even lived in Japan for a week, and already he is beginning to make friends and obtain a new status of responsibility. Which, by no means, he had any regrets about. Raising a digital creature seemed like it would have many rewards. And if his egg were to hatch into anything like Kyaromon, his new pet, or whatever it would be called, would be able to talk! How amazing would that be?
A warm smile spread across John's face. He was extremely happy that Maia had accepted his offer of friendship. "Thank you, Maia. You're actually the second friend I've made since moving to Tokyo. Is there a way that you would prefer to exchange contact information? Or, do the Digivices work as a means of communication? If anything, we can exchange phone numbers. Or even find each other through social media, like on Facebook.
Now that John thought about it, raising this egg would be almost exactly like the tiny electronic toy that somewhat resembled a Digivice, which he received as a child. The toy he was thinking of was Tomogachi. A game where you would hatch a creature and raise it. Although, due to school and other distractions, John could never keep his poor creature alive! Nevertheless, he would do his best now to raise his Digimon.
