The teen likely would have taken a look at the book, anyway, but if Isaac was going to clean it, she'd easily wait for a different time. "Just don't forget. I want to take a look at it," Maia smiled, waving her hand a little to dismiss the book. That also meant that she'd have to see the brothers again, which could be interesting. After all, if they seemed so interesting now, imagine after they had some rest!
"Well, I mean, that'd make sense," the girl thought about the logic behind coming to the human world to become a human. But the spirit user she had met had never even been to the Digital world, yet, so it seemed unlikely from her perspective. "At least you've got it figured out?" Maybe. It didn't seem like Elliot was too positive, himself, so she wasn't going to try to be a downer about it. Then, came the question of why she was in the alley. "Oh, uh," actually, the girl had almost forgotten! Crap! "I was going to the store, but.. Uh." Well, she supposed it was her turn to sound pretty stupid.
But, Kyaromon was here to help make that so much easier! "Maia got lost!" And, that was enough to make the girl turn red. She didn't really want to admit to still-kind-of-strangers that she didn't know exactly where she was headed! "She's supposed to make me cookies tonight! Do you guys want to come eat cookies with me? They're great! And then, all that could be heard from the monster was muffled garbles, as Maia's palm was partially in the Digimon's mouth. Ew. But, it really was the only way to silence him at this point.
The tamer swore, her own Digimon was out to get her. There was no way for her to really hide that she wasn't sure where she was headed, after all of that. "Uh... Yeah. I was going to look it up on my phone, but then I noticed you guys and got a bit sidetracked."

Isaac smiled back at Maia. "No chance I'll forget." He didn't really have many friends around here. Even Rei was just some random Digimon that showed up, then ditched him in his moment of need. It seemed like this was his first chance to build a connection that wasn't with his brother, and he wasn't about to just let it slip by. It'd certainly make this trip to Japan less lonely, that's for sure!
Having already been utterly humiliated today, the brothers felt a bit bad seeing Maia have to go to through the same. After all, it wasn't fun in the slightest being on the receiving end of that trouble. "Sorry!" Elliot said, as if Maia getting lost was all his fault. Isaac gave his brother a comforting pat on the shoulder, as if trying to assure him that, no, he didn't end up starting this mess. Sometimes guilt manifested in the weirdest places.
"Hey, no need to worry," the other brother interjected. "It can get pretty hectic around here. We could help show you the way, if you want."
At the time of this encounter, Elliot and Isaac had been in Japan for about five days. Yet here Isaac was, acting like he ran the place. On one hand, Isaac always loved helping people. On the other hand, Elliot really, really didn't want to get stuck in another sticky situation by his brother messing around. For the time being he kept mum, hoping that this trip to the store would at the very least go more smoothly than their trip to the Digital World.
Besides, cookies sounded great!

Maia seemed to be making an awful lot of acquaintances ever since getting a Digimon. Though she still wasn't really sure if being part of the 'illegal monster fan club' was a great idea. Not that it seemed like there was any way to get out of it, and she certainly never signed up! "It's really not your fault," the girl gave a small laugh, picking Kyaromon off of her shoulder and opening up her bag. "I was lost before I found you guys, anyway." Maybe that would make Elliot feel a little better about the situation, but probably not.
The bunny-eared monster began making swimming motions in the air, trying to escape his fate of hiding in the bag, but knew it was hopeless. His tamer had learned how to keep a good grip on him! Maybe one day, being hidden wouldn't be such a hassle for him. "I'm siiinkiing!" the Digimon would dramatically announce, as he was set into the bag. In an almost instinctive way, Kyaromon began burrowing himself alongside the notebooks and pencils that took up permanent residence in the purse.
"Do you, uh, know your way around here?" the girl tried to confirm, as she waited for Kyaromon to settle himself down in the bag before closing it enough that he wouldn't be too obvious. She didn't feel right ever properly sealing the purse, since a somewhat living creature had taken up a comfortable spot in it, and it just didn't feel humane. But, Maia certainly wasn't going to turn down some company to the store. After all, it was a little alarming walking around in an unfamiliar place all by herself. Or, mostly by herself. Kyaromon hardly could count!

That helped a bit. For a second, Elliot was afraid their distraction marked the difference between an easy journey and getting lost in Shibuya. Thankfully that seemed to not be the case, though, and now Elliot could rest easy. He looked in concern as the fluffball flailed its way into Maia's purse. He heard of purse dogs, but not of purse armed-and-dangerous monsters. "Is he going to be okay in there?" he asked, somewhat shyly, as the purse was semi-sealed.
"Of course I know where we're going!" Isaac said, maybe a little bit too quickly. "It's, hm, lets see-" He looked around for a familiar landmark, going over the different areas in his head. North is New things to learn. West is Where they live. East is Evacuated. Of course! South is Shops! He pointed to where Central Shibuya gave way to Downtown Shibuya, adding "That way. Ready, Elliot?" The other boy nodded, still self conscious as to his walking stick's presence as he started to walk away from the alleyway.
This was a really nice change of pace compared to the rest of the day, that's for sure. Isaac couldn't help but have a bit of spring in his step. He'd survived through it all. The thugs. The tanks. The black knights. The real world and digital world alike threw everything they could at him, and he still made it. Now it was time to have a nice, peaceful evening, and nothing was going to get in his way now! A hot shower would be next on his agenda, for sure, followed by passing out. But first, it was time to try and get to know his new friend a little bit better.
"So, how are you liking it over here?" Isaac asked.

"Kyaromon likes it in there, believe it or not," Maia smiled, poking her finger into the bag, for a happy squeak to come from the monster inside of the pouch. "It's the only way I can really bring him anywhere, and I don't think you want to see he treats my bedroom if he's left alone." While, at one point, the room had had some organization to it, all of that had been ruined almost immediately after the alien had hatched from his egg. Things were ripped, drooled on, and knocked over, and the girl just didn't have the patience to fix everything after a day of school and other misfortunes.
The tamer wasn't going to make any comments on how she didn't necessarily believe that either of the brothers really knew their way around either, judging by the pause in Isaac's plan of directions. And, she certainly wouldn't mention the walking stick at all. Or, even, look at it, if she could avoid doing so. It just didn't seem polite. But, Isaac seemed to have an idea of where they were going now, and she wasn't going to suggest actually searching for a place online. Real people were better than cell phones, anyway... right?
Still, she was going to keep pace with Elliot, not sure how fast the boy would walk with whatever the reasoning behind his stick was. Surely, there was some purpose. "It's certainly different here," Maia hesitated, fixing her bag. "I've been here for less than half a year, and an alien-egg got mailed to me. Pretty sure Japan's just screwed up." To that, there was a slight huff, and another squeak of happiness from the bag. The digimon knew that was him! "Aside from that, I guess it's alright. Everyone's friendly enough." After all, the brothers seemed more than willing to be helpful. "How are you two liking the area? You're pretty obviously not from around here, either, no offense."

Elliot gave a shudder of sympathy. "You should see how Isaac treats ours," he joked.
"Hey!" Isaac responded, giving him a gentle elbow to the side. "Not my fault you do a way better job of cleaning than I do. At this point I just let you handle it since you're gonna end up fixing it up anyway."
"I guess you're right," Elliot said. Besides, it wasn't like Isaac didn't help out in other ways! Most of the time. Besides, he had to admit, he did put a lot of work into cleaning their room. Despite his best attempts, Isaac just wasn't the best at carrying on that workload.
Isaac fell in step with the other two. He took the lead slightly, since he was the one directing the group, but he still made sure to keep pace so he wouldn't end up leaving the two behind. "Yeah, it's been pretty strange around here. But my bro and I are enjoying ourselves a lot. Except for how chaotic today's been." Speaking of their time here, Maia finally called him out on how long he has been here for. Isaac figured this would end up coming up sooner or later.
"Okay, okay, we haven't been here for too long. We've been on vacation here for five days." he eventually said, hesitantly. "It's been a lot to adjust to. Like the language. And finding the proper directions. And getting through all the crowds. But it's been really fun, and I'm glad we've had the chance to go over here."
"We haven't really been anywhere but Shibuya yet. But we're hoping we'll get to check out some other places next week!" Elliot added.
"You been finding a lot of fun stuff to do around here?"

Maia listened to the siblings, quietly. She didn't have siblings, so it was interesting to actually hear conversations like this. The girl really couldn't tell if she wished she had a relationship like that, but it was probably for the best. Chances were, siblings didn't usually both get some sort of crazy Digimon things at the same time. Or ever. And, the teen couldn't imagine trying to hide Kyaromon from anyone more than her parents.
Oh. So, they were on vacation? Well, it looked like the friendship was probably short-lived. Maybe, she'd be able to get their phone numbers or something to at least keep contact with the boys. "How long are you staying here?" Maia questioned, tilting her head slightly. It was pretty sad that Isaac seemed to know where they were going more than she had, and he'd only been in the area that short of time! Maia really needed to get out more often. It was becoming a bit more frequent, since she had to exercise Kyaromon, though.
"Oh, uh, not really," the teen shifted her purse again on her shoulder. "I haven't actually been out of the house much since I got here." Well, that was kind of embarrassing to admit to, but totally explained why she had no idea how to get to the store! "I keep getting lost." Or finding weird kids with Digimon or that turned into them. It seemed like it was almost every time she walked out of the house, now! Was this some weird trend?

Isaac frowned slightly. Maia's question reminded him that this would be a pretty short-lived friendship after all. Still, Maia seemed like a really nice person, and he was determined to enjoy being here while it lasted. "We'll be here for another week or so. I think. Mom doesn't really seem like she's in much of a rush, but I think she's just happy to be catching up with her friend from college." Two weeks was the target estimate when they left, but Isaac figured around the halfway point there would be a little bit more hustle to get sightseeing in. He'd have to ask about that later, maybe.
"That's okay. There's a lot of cool stuff to do at home, too," Elliot offered. "Do you play a lot of video games?" After his leg got busted up, they were his major escape. In a lot of ways he missed going out more often, but at least it gave him some sort of way to enjoy himself. He was quickly approaching the age where, in his current state, there just wasn't any room left for him in sports.
He didn't like thinking about that much.
"Store should be a few more buildings down. Mom likes to go to the one a bit further from Scramble, so she doesn't have to deal with as many lines, but we can go to the closer one if you want," Isaac said, basically parroting exactly what the boys' mother told them when picking up groceries. "So! What kind of cookies did you have in mind?"

Another week, at least, sounded decent. Maia would have to try to hang out with the duo a little more before then. It was kind of nice to have the company, after all. Especially company that wouldn't panic if Kyaromon was visible. The girl made a mental note to pay attention to what day it was. The least she could do was see them once more, right?
"Oh, yeah. I love video games," the girl smiled, feeling a little less awkward. "Some of them are how I keep in contact with my old friends." It was pretty hard to spend any time with people in a different country, after all! The best way was to be inside, while virtually going outside, right? Talking on the phone just wasn't always the same! Though, it was getting a little harder with Kyaromon always wanting to talk, too. Or break things. The tiny monster really liked to break things. Thankfully, he hadn't gotten a hold on the electronics, yet.
Taking a glance around, she tried to keep in her memory where exactly they had headed. That way, she could make the trip again, when needed. "Whatever works best for you. I don't want to make you walk forever." After all, the two seemed to have already had a very long day. They probably just wanted to rest and not show a girl to the store. After all, she really should have known how to get there by herself.
"Chocolate chip!" a muffled voice insisted, from the bag. That was the only kind Maia had made for him, so far! Of course, it would be his favorite.
Maia tapped the purse, reminding the digimon that he needed to stay quiet. "Probably those. I was thinking of trying sugar cookies or something, too. Kyaromon's only tried one kind of cookie," she shrugged, thinking about it. At least Digimon didn't seem to have food allergies. "What kind of cookies do you guys like?"

"That's cool. What kind?" Elliot asked, smiling a bit. While he was trying his best to spend time outdoors and exploring Japan, some days were just tiring. He was glad to know he wasn't alone in needing to just crash, relax, and game some days. Maybe he'd luck out and be able to play some with their new friend before they left. Or, even better, be able to add them and play online even when the trip was over!
Isaac simply grinned at Maia. "I had to run from a tank today. A bit of walking to the store's not gonna kill me. Wouldn't mind taking a break, but hey, errands come first." Sure, he was getting kind of exhausted, but why was he going to make everyone else sit back and stop just to move to his own beat? There'd be plenty of time to sit around once cookies were being baked, anyway.
"Oh man, what kind don't I like?" Isaac asked, laughing a little. "But no raisins, please. Elliot bit into one thinking it was chocolate chip. Gave him trust issues for life."
"Not true!" He paused for a bit, then shyly added "I don't like them, though."
The store was starting to come into view. Naturally, Isaac sped up to make sure he was the first to reach the automatic doors. There was something oddly fun about pretending you were some kind of Jedi, or maybe Magneto, and "forcing" the doors open. However, as he went to open the doors for Elliot and Maia, he couldn't help but realize how inadequate it felt now. After all, he had real powers! Still, with a flourish of his arm, the doors went sailing open.
"After you."

"Oh, I like all kinds of games," Maia seemed a bit excited about the topic. Especially because Elliot was so friendly about it! It was amazing how many guys stuck to the whole 'girls don't play games' bit, so it was certainly nice. "Some first person shooters, or roleplaying games. And online ones, as long as they don't feel too competitive." Maybe, she'd convince the boy to exchange usernames on some sort of gaming platform.
Listening to the talk about cookies, she thought about it some. "Got it. No Oatmeal Raisin, then," she nodded, thinking about all of the stuff that she needed to get. She knew she needed more flour, and she was set on sugar. Chocolate chips were a must. Oh, maybe peanut butter? Crud, she needed to not make every kind of cookie she could think of tonight! Peanut butter would wait for another time.
Once the doors had 'magically' opened, Maia began to giggle, a hand flying up to cover her mouth. It was a nice thing to actually have people to laugh with, too. It seemed like everything since moving to Japan had just been stress. Stress at school, with homework, without her old friends, and stress with digimon. "Well, thank you, kind sir!" the girl playfully commented, walking past Isaac, and waiting just inside the door for the brothers. "Okay, so. I need to get flour and... Eggs. I definitely need those." Her mom had recently overstocked their fridge with butter, so that wasn't a concern. This should be a pretty quick trip, right?
Looking down at her purse, she could see Kyaromon's nose trying to poke out of the partially opened bag. Another poke into the purse made the creature shift around a bit, before shuffling her wallet near the top of it, so that she wouldn't have to go searching around him later on. Sometimes, having a portable digimon was awfully convenient!

"Ooh, fun! Those are my favorites too!" Sure, everything was Elliot's favorite. All things considered, he was a rather open minded kid. He enjoyed more competitive ones, though, but he knew they weren't for everyone. Didn't make it any less fun to mess with Isaac in them, of course. Sometimes he had the funniest reactions to a game going badly! "What kind of systems do you have?"
Isaac couldn't help but smile a little. Usually that one just got an eye-roll in response, but this time it got a friend laughing. And a really cute laugh, too! "But of course," he replied in his best faux-posh voice, waiting for Maia and Elliot to enter before letting the doors shut again. From here, though, the boys would be much worse guides. They were far better at making out Japanese words than reading them, so they simply looked at all the aisle names and product labels in confusion.
They looked at each other, trying to puzzle out the store, before just nodding. Unanimous decision, they were sticking with Maia. Of course, first, there was one last problem to settle.
"If we're gonna be out for a while we should tell Mom first, right?" Elliot asked.
"Well, duh. But that's what we've got these for!" Isaac proudly whipped out his Digivice, only to remember that those things pulled the old switcheroo with their phones. He looked at it and sighed, pocketing the device before anyone could notice it was out. "Oh. Right. That's gonna be a toughie to explain."

Maia thought about the consoles in the house, debating what to tell Elliot. The better question was, what didn't she have? Sure, her parents weren't rich, but she was an only child. Pretty much anything she wanted, within reason, she could have. "Uh, I mostly use my computer, but I have a few consoles, if you have a preference." That seemed like a modest enough answer, in her book! "What do you have?" It was probably easier just to agree that she had it, than just list off what was in the house. Plus, her dad played some of the games, too, so it made it feel less like she was just a spoiled child. Before the tamer could start walking any further, the thought of calling the boys mom came up. And, on top of that, the seeming lack of ability to actually phone her. "Do you need to borrow my phone?" With the question, she pulled out the phone in offering. After all, she couldn't expect them to be out without letting their parents know of their whereabouts.
Making a small motion for the two to follow her, she kept the phone out for one of them to take if they wanted. Still, it didn't mean they couldn't grab what she needed while dialing their mother! "Also, uh, your Japanese seemed a bit weird earlier. No offense," the girl mumbled, checking the signs for the aisles, "how long have you two been learning it?" She wouldn't deny, the language wasn't overly easy to pick up on. Especially with the sentence structure being different from English.

"Computer too, mostly. We haven't been able to buy the new consoles yet," Elliot said. He had the feeling they wouldn't get the chance for a long time, either. Times were somewhat tight, and this trip to Japan was only really possible thanks to the generosity of friends and a few pulled strings. Even then, it basically devoured the luxury budget for the next year or so. Right now, though, there were more important matters to worry about than money. Like phone calls!
"I'd really appreciate that," Isaac admitted. He took the phone and began to dial home, pausing for a bit as it rang a few more times than he would have liked.
While he was busy talking away, Elliot took up question answering duty. "Half a year," he admitted, sounding a little ashamed of the fact. "We didn't have much advance warning, but we've been doing the best we can with the little time we have. It still isn't very good at all, though."
"Huh. Really? You sure? Yeah. Yeah, okay. You too."
The call was over far earlier than Elliot expected. Isaac returned the phone to Maia, but the look on his face seemed somewhat strange. "So she's okay with it?"
"She didn't even ask to put Maia on the phone."
Elliot was left silent from confusion. Fortunately, he was always one quick to try and jump onto the silver lining of a situation. "Maybe she's just taking it easy on us, because we're on vacation."
Bullcrap. If anything, she'd worry way more about losing her sons in a foreign country. Still, Isaac didn't want Elliot to get any more worried than he already was. He forced a smile, assuring his brother "I'm sure you're right. Come on, lets relax for a bit.
Need a hand with anything, Maia?"

Handing the phone off to Isaac, Maia thought for a moment, "if you have an e-mail address, maybe you could write it down for me later? That way, we can keep in touch when you leave." After all, it seemed that their phones were of no use at the moment. She had managed to already locate where the flour was, and the eggs would pretty obviously be in the cooled section someplace, she assumed. "Oh, that's not actually bad at all!" Maia tried to make Elliot feel a little better. "I doubt I'd have been able to figure out as much as you have in that short of time." The girl wasn't even lying about it! She sucked at languages! If she hadn't started learning Japanese at a young enough age, there was no way she'd know it now.
Taking her phone back, she shoved it into her jacket pocket. Was their mom acting off? "Maybe it's something about the area," she suggested, "my mom doesn't even know that I'm not home right now." Her mother didn't really seem to care, either. Everything kind of revolved around her pregnant aunt right now, and the tamer certainly wasn't going to complain. It would be awfully hard to have a Digimon, if her mom was still as overprotective as she used to be. But, Maia's mom still had a reason for being so lenient. The boys' mom, on the other hand, didn't sound like she had an excuse. Maybe the woman was enjoying personal time with the college friend that had been mentioned.
Moving through a couple of aisles, the girl grabbed two bags of flour, several bags of chocolate chips, a spare container of sugar, and was on her way to the eggs. "Yes, a literal hand, please. If you could, grab a carton of eggs so I don't break them?" Oh, so she wasn't even going to have them carry the heavier stuff! But, it had been her decision to buy a little more than necessary so that she wouldn't have to make another trip any time soon.
