The time has arrived. Many things have changed since Dante first met his Digimon partner. Him and Wormmon had been on many adventures together, and overcame superior Tamers in Shirou's tournament. However, the rest of the Defectors, and Team Takashi, remained Piedmon's prisoners. After finding Wormmon while exploring with Shi, Dante was finally ready to set out and save his friends/associates. Dante and Wormmon approach the Trailmon station. Dante's friend Raziya is accompanying them to the station. Dante is carrying several large suitcases.
"What's with all the bags? I know you're going to the Digital World for a while, but beyond necessities, you should pack light." "Don't worry. Most of this is gifts for the Pagumon. I'm meeting up with them before setting out to the desert." Dante had encountered the Pagumon the first time he was in the Digital World, during the battle against Syn and Etemon. While Syn had been defeated, Etemon still remained at large. However, Etemon was not Dante's first priority right now. One day, they would stop the outdated musical overlord, but now is not the time. Dante reaches the station and gets ready to depart. Raziya gives Dante a hug and kisses Wormmon on the forehead. "Take care of each other, you two!" "Thanks, Raz. Say hi to Budmon for us!" Dante waves goodbye, and he gets on the Trailmon with Wormmon and all his bags.
The Trailmon arrives in the Digital World. Chills run up Dante's spine. He is expecting the worse. Wormmon sees a Pagumon waiting in the station. "There he is! Let's go." Dante carries the bags over to Pagumon. "Hiya! Glad you made it." "It's good to see you again. As promised, I returned with food and supplies." The Pagumon takes a sniff of the bags. "Excellent! Right this way." Dante and Wormmon follow Pagumon outside. There, they get in Pagumon's supped up wooden kart. Pagumon takes them to a small hotel in the city. "You can stay here for the night. We've been waiting for you to return. Tonight, we celebrate your victory over Etemon's recording studio." Dante and Wormmon hop out of the car. Several Pagumon come outside and grab Dante's bags.
Dante and Wormmon go inside the small hotel. There, they feast with the Pagumon. "Mmm! Look at this food, Dante! Pizza, burgers, sushi! Nom nom nom!" Dante, Wormmon, and the Pagumon dig in. One of the Pagumon sneaks outside for a moment. There, a Renamon wearing a long grey robe talks to the Pagumon. "He's here. What should we do now?" The Renamon stares silently at Pagumon with a blank look on their face. She hands Pagumon a large bottle of wine. "Take this. Get Dante drunk, and await further instructions." "Okay, you've got it! Hee hee heeee!!" The Pagumon takes the wine inside. "Here ya go, Dante! The best wine in the city." "Oh, wonderful!" Pagumon pours Dante a glass.
Meanwhile, big things are about to go down at the Dark One's Fortress. The Dark One summons their minions for a meeting. "Attention! Wizardmon, what happened at the tournament?" "Well, master, it's like this. I waited until the end, just as planned, and then I summoned Leomon, but they were unable to recover the data core." Leomon is furious. "What kind of trick is this?! Master, I handed Wizardmon the data core! You've got to believe me!" "That's enough, Leomon! You're loyalty is already in question. Wizardmon's testimony outweighs yours." The Dark One's guards grab ahold of Leomon. "Banish this untamed beast from my sight!" "No! Master!" The Dark One stands up and walks over to Leomon. They pull a long sharp claw out of their cloak, and cut Leomon across the face and chest. Leomon passes out, and the guards take him away. "Leomon's failure disappoints me, but your word is golden, Wizardmon." "Of course, Leomon's failure brings me much grief, but this was not the first time they failed you, o Dark One. My entire purpose is to serve my master." Wizardmon takes their cloak and covers their body, disappearing in a purple cloud of smoke. The Dark One stares down at the planning table. "We were so close. Who knows who has the data core now?"
Little did the Dark One know, but Leomon was indeed telling the truth. They had took the data core from Dante and handed it to Wizardmon, but Wizardmon was secretly working for Piedmon all along. Wizardmon had conned his way to the top of the Dark One's organization, and sold Leomon down the river in the process. While much tragedy and betrayal had already transpired, things were only going to get worse.

Dante and Wormmon continue enjoying the feast with the Pagumon. As the night goes on, Dante keeps drinking more, and more wine. Then, even more wine, because despite his intellect, deep down he was still some dumb kid from Italy. After months of dangerous battles, hectic traveling, and putting up with the crazy people he met, Dante didn't even care. He was going to get hammered tonight. Dante takes a big swig of wine, and finishes the last drop from his glass. "Uh, are you sure you haven't had too much, there?" "Oh no, *hic* I feel, fantastic! All day long, it's do this, do that. The bullcrap I have to put up with! First it was that stupid emo Revan getting all up in my face. Then there's that crazy stalker Sal. She's insane! And Shirou, oh my god! That otaku needs intensive therapy."
Dante continued his drunken ranting until the full effects of the wine caught up to him. He relaxes in his chair, until he gets down on the floor and lays down. "I'll be fine. I'm just gonna rest up for a moment." Wormmon is shaking their head. Soon, Dante is fast asleep. "He's out like a light. Come on, let's get him!" The Pagumon gather around Dante. Wormmon jumps up on the table. "Hey! What are you doing?" Two Pagumon sneak up behind Wormmon and throw a net over them. "Ah! A net! That's not fair, I use the nets around here!" The Pagumon tie up Dante with ropes and drag him into the other room, and place him in a cage. "Hee hee hee!!! Nighty night, Tamer scum!"
Meanwhle, far away in a different zone in the Digital World, Dante's sister Judith is wandering around, trying to find a way back to the Human World. During their encounter with Piedmon, Judith charged at the evil clown Digimon, unintentionally activating the data core, sending both of them to different parts of the Digital World. With no Digimon partner, and no experience in this world, Judith was just trying to survive. She wanders a vast barren wasteland, not a Digimon or Human in sight for miles. "I'll never find my way back! It's getting dark soon, and I don't even have my good jacket. Oh, I hope that stupid brother of mine finds out where I am. I don't even know where I'm at." Judith has no choice but to keep walking. As the sun sets, just while it is still light enough out to see, Judith comes across a small tunnel rising up out of the ground. She decides to set up camp and stay here for the night. Judith gathers some branches nearby and starts building a fire to stay warm.
Back at the hotel, Dante has been abducted by his sneaky little allies. Wormmon struggles to escape the net, but it is no use. Dante's digivice starts going off, vibrating and beeping, waking him up. "Hey, what's going on?!" "No hard feelings, Dante, but someone made us an offer we couldn't turn down." Dante is furious these little buggers would betray him, even after helping them before, and returning with gifts. In Italian culture, to betray someone who has brought a bountiful meal was very cruel, and against tradition. Well, it probably isn't an official rule, but come on. He came bearing food and gifts, and this was how the Pagumon treat him?
Dante thinks for a moment. If he can escape the small cage and find Wormmon, they can digivolve to Champion and sort this mess out. Dante notices a nearby table cloth. He sticks his skinny arm out of the cage and pulls it over. Dante takes out his lighter and starts trying to light the cloth on fire. One of the Pagumon sees Dante and hops over. "No! Our table cloth! You can't be doing that!" "Watch me!" Dante continues trying to ignite the cloth, but it just won't burn. "Uh oh, I don't feel go-UGH-HUH!" Dante can't keep his wine down, and throws up all over the table cloth. "Maybe now it will light." A normal bottle of wine would not have high enough proof to ignite, but this was the best wine in the Digital World, and even regurgitated, it was very flammable. Dante lights the cloth on fire and tosses it as far from the cage as he can. The Pagumon panics, and other Pagumon come in to check what's happening. In all the chaos, one of the Pagumon drops the keys. As they try to put out the fire, Dante reaches as far as he can stretch, and grabs the keys.
Dante unlocks the cage and bursts out with a bad attitude. "Now I will make you pay!!!" Dante kicks one of the Pagumon and runs into the main room. He rips open the net and rescues Wormmon. The Pagumon come in with a big bucket of water and put the fire out. "What you think, little buddy? Should we give these guys the stinger?" "Gladly." Dante raises his digivice, and Wormmon forms a cocoon out of thread, digivolving to Stingmon. The Pagumon come back into the main room, and look up in fear at the Champion level insect Digimon. "AHH! Okay, we surrender!" The other Pagumon nod in agreement, afraid of the clobbering they so rightfully deserve. Dante, still tipsy from the wine, decides to make a deal. "You think you can *hic* trick me like that? After all I did for you guys?" "Honest! We didn't want to. Please!" "Here's the deal. You all work for me now, got it?! Serve me, and I won't flush you all down the digi-potty!" "Ah! Of course! You're the only boss for us, Dante." "Good..."
Stingmon devolves back to Wormmon, a little upset there wasn't a battle. Hotel management comes and checks on the room because of all the commotion. One of the Pagumon handles it, making up something about a cooking fire. With the Pagumon now 100% loyal to Dante, him and Wormmon are able to get a good night's sleep. The only real loss was the table cloth. A perfectly innocent table cloth, that Dante vomited on, and set on fire. Dante was indeed going down a dark path. Destroying personal property is still a crime, even in the Digital World. He will have to carry that burden for a long time.

Dante wakes up in the morning, fortunately not suffering from a hangover after the night before. Him and Wormmon have a quick breakfast before preparing to head out to their next stop. One of the Pagumon asks where they are going next. "So where are you heading now?" "We must find a certain oasis out in the desert. Do you have the means to travel?" Pagumon shakes his head. "Nope. Our karts are fast, but they get stuck in the sand." Another Pagumon chimes in. "I know a Digimon that travels the desert. We can take you to him." "Yes, that would be great." Dante and Wormmon head out with two Pagumon to find the Digimon.
They travel to a different part of the city, heading to the market district. It's very busy this time of day, with lots of Digimon trading goods that have been brought from all over the Digital World. There, they see a tomato kart. "There, that's him!" They head over and greet the Digimon. He doesn't look like any other Digimon Dante has seen before. They are about 4 feet tall, with dark greyish, greenish skin, and they are ripped with muscles. There face is that of an ogre-like creature, but not as hideous. They have a tall dark red Mohawk, and they are wearing black shorts, red boxing boots, and silver and gold wrist bands. Their left hand appears to be mechanical. The Pagumon introduces Dante and Wormmon to the Digimon. "Hiya! Our friends here have something to ask you."
The Digimon's eyes open wide and twinkle. "Excellent! My name is Bogamon, and I sell the best tomatoes in all the Digtal World! How many tomatoes can I put you down for?" "I'm afraid our business doesn't concern tomatoes. I need to travel the desert, and I heard you can travel through the sand." "Why certainly! My kart here is rigged with sleds on the bottom. Sand is NOT a problem for Bogamon!" The Digimon poses and flexes his arms. "That's great news! I hate to impose, but could we leave soon?" "Ya, why not? Truth be told, my business isn't going very well. I GUESS THESE MO-RONS DON'T KNOW GOOD TOMATOES WHEN THEY SEE THEM!!!" Bogamon puts his tomatoes in the back of his kart. "Hop in, and we will head out into the great desert!"
Dante bends down and pats the two Pagumon on their heads. "Thanks for everything. Even though things didn't really go as planned." "Hey, don't worry about it. We'd rather work for you than those other guys. It's in our nature to be sneaky, but we didn't realize we'd be better off listening to you. Take care on your journey!" Wormmon waves goodbye to the Pagumon. "You guys sure caused a lot of trouble, but that's in the past now." "Oh, and one more thing." The Pagumon reach into a bag and pull out the burnt table cloth. "Here, take this as a reminder of our alliance. It should get some kind of use, now that it's no good as a table cloth." Dante smiles, and accepts the table cloth. "Thanks, Pagumon. Take care of yourselves." Dante and Wormmon hop in the back of Bogamon's kart. Bogamon grabs on to the poles sticking out of the front and starts pulling the kart.
Dante, Wormmon, and Bogamon head out into the desert. Even after a few miles, Bogamon is still pulling the kart. "Are you sure you're okay with pulling us?" "Oh ya! It's all part of my awesome training regiment! I'm training to be the best fighter in the whole world!" Bogamon seems odd for a Digimon, but Dante could tell they had a pure heart, and was glad they had a way to travel the vast desert. "You see, I travel the world, pulling my kart, and selling tomatoes wherever I go." "How do you get the tomatoes?" Bogamon stops running and sets the kart down. "Here, I'll show ya!" Bogamon's left hand transforms into a small cannon. He points it into the sky and shoots a tomato into the air. "Some Digimon throw fireballs. Me? Well, I shoot tomatoes! It's very economical." Bogamon turns his hand back, and continues pulling the kart. "So do ya know where this place is?"
Dante scratches the back of his head. "Well, uh, not exactly. You see, this place came to me in a dream. I was warned my friends were in danger. And now that they are all gone, I figured the only way I'm getting any answers is if I seek this place out." "Hmm, very interesting. Most Digimon would think you're crazy, but I say FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS!" They continue traveling through the desert, the sun beating down. Luckily there is a cover on the kart, otherwise Dante's pale skin would be fried by now. Dante hopes they find the oasis soon. If not, they could be wandering the desert all for nothing. Wormmon opens up a crate of tomatoes and starts chowing down. "This is gonna be a loooooong trip, Dante!"

The trio continue traveling through the vast desert. Even after hours, Bogamon keeps on pulling his tomato kart. Wormmon is getting really bored, and is getting on Dante's nerves. "Dante! Why is there so much sand in the desert?" "There just is. It's hot out, and there's no water." "I'd rather be at the beach. Beaches have sand. Why can't we go to the beach?" "Just try to be patient. Think of what we're doing. This is the only way we are ever going to save our friends." "Okay. Dante? Why did Piedmon capture our friends?" Dante doesn't want to tell Wormmon the truth about their past life. "I don't really understand. Ever since we've met, people and Digimon we don't even know have been attacking us." "Don't worry, Dante. We will get our friends back one day."
Bogamon continues pulling the kart through the desert, humming happily and not showing an bit of fatigue. Suddenly the kart is hit by several fragments of glass. Dante and Wormmon get out of the kart and look around. Bogamon takes up a fighting stance. A figure wearing long grey robes appears in the distance. "Who is that?" "Does it matter? Just another assailant." The figure charges towards the group and strikes Dante with a fast kick. Bogamon throws punches, but they are too fast, and dodge with ease. Wormmon traps the assailant with a sticky net. The group sees their face, and realize it is a Renamon. "Why could you possibly be attacking us all the way out here?!" Renamon doesn't say anything. Instead, the unleash a barrage of glass fragments, breaking out of the next. Renamon hits Wormmon with a combo of strikes, dealing massive damage.
Bogamon tackles Renamon and starts unloading a series of punches. Renamon hits Bogamon with a diamond storm, cutting into his flesh. Bogamon converts his hand to a cannon, and starts firing tomatoes at Renamon, only a few of them hitting for light damage. "I know this isn't right, but we have no other choice. Time to digivolve Wormmon!" Normally it was against Dante's beliefs to digivolve to a higher level than the Digimon in the fight, but this time it was crucial. Wormmon forms a coccon out of thread around them, and digivolves into the agile insect Stingmon. "Oh ya! I was hoping for a chance to digivolve. The Stingmon cometh!" Stingmon flies towards Renamon and hits them with a spiking strike for moderate damage. Renamon counters with a sidestep and a kick to the face. Stingmon goes for a claw attack, but Renamon dodges and hits Stingmon with a diamond storm, puncturing Stingmon in the chest with glass fragments. Even against a Champion, and one as strong as Stingmon, this Renamon was winning the battle. Stingmon and Bogamon take up defensive stances, hoping to defeat this mysterious assailant.

Meanwhile, while Dante and Wormmon were traveling through the desert, Dante's sister Judith is still stuck in the Digital World. After wandering around for a few days, she comes across a village of low level Digimon. They have little huts built out of mud and straw. Judith enters the small village. A young Upamon comes hopping over to her. "Oh goodness, a Human! Welcome to our village!" "Finally, somewhere safe. I've been lost for days!" "You must be a Tamer. But where's your Digimon partner?" "I'm actually not a Tamer. My brother is. An evil Digimon attacked us, and next thing I knew, I was lost in a vast wasteland." "That's harsh. Well you came to the right place! We have food, and water, and shelter, and even fishing lessons!"
The Upamon's eager smile turns to a frown. "It's just that, our village has been under attack." "That's terrible! Why would someone attack you?" "Why does anyone do anything? Out of hatred and greed. A large Digimon called Meramon composed entirely of fire has been burning down our homes and stealing our goods. You see, this village is famous for the fish we catch." Upamon takes Judith to the big lake at the far end of the village. "The fish from this lake feed hungry Digimon all over our world. We manage to make enough money to keep our village running, but if Meramon keeps stealing our fish, we could go bankrupt! We wouldn't be able to afford medicine or supplies." The situation in the village was indeed grim. What could a bunch of in-training Digimon do to stop a Champion? "That's terrible! If I was a Tamer, I'd be able to help you guys." "Oh, don't worry. It's not your duty to help us." Judith wanted to help the village by the lake, but what could one Human do to defeat a Digimon?
Back in the desert, Stingmon and Bogamon take on Renamon. Bogamon charges forward and hits Renamon with a powerful punch for light damage. Renamon jumps back and unleashes a diamond storm, hitting Bogamon and sending them flying back into the sand, his feet sticking out of the sand. Stingmon takes to the sky and swoops down towards Renamon. Stingmon grabs Renamon by the robes and lifts them up into the air. Stingmon spins around rapidly and crashes into the sand, dealing moderate damage to the agile fox Digimon. Renamon gets up and wipes some blood from their mouth. "You're not getting away this time!" Renamon dashes towards Stingmon, who goes for a kick, but Renamon dodges behind Stingmon and strikes him in the back of the neck. Renamon grabs onto Stingmon, but Stingmon tosses Renamon over from behind and slams them down into the sand.
Stingmon steps on Renamon's tail and pins them down. "Get ready to taste my laser!" Stingmon charges up his energy cannon and aims down at Renamon. Stingmon fires straight down, hitting Renamon for massive damage, and leaving a plasma burn in their robes. Renamon struggles to get up, breathing heavily and holding their chest. "You haven't... seen the last of me." "You're injured, let us take care of you." The Renamon just scoffs at Dante's offer. "Like one of your kind could ever take care of us Digimon! You Tamers are the real monsters." Renamon dashes off across the sand, disappearing into the desert. Dante walks over and pulls Bogamon out of the sane by his legs. "Oh, what happened? Did I win?" "Sort of. Can you travel?" Bogamon struggles to stand up. "Of course! My strict training program does not allow any breaks." "You're too fatigued. Come on, get in the kart and I'll pull for now." Stingmon devolves to Wormmon, and the two Digimon get in the back of the kart.
Dante lifts up the poles on the kart and starts pulling. Almost an hour of pulling the tomato kart with the hot desert sun, and they still haven't found the oasis. Dante keeps pulling, pushing his body and mind to their limits. Just when Dante's body is about to give up from exhaustion, he hears a soothing aura calling to him. He makes a slight turn and continues towards the aura. Off in the distance, he finally sees the oasis. It looks just like the place in his dream. Dante finally reaches the oasis. The nature spirit greets the exhausted Tamer. Like before in Dante's dream, she has long blonde hair, and is covered with white robes and gold jewelry. "Greetings, Dante. It's great to finally see you in person." Dante gasps for air. His arms and legs are beyond tired from the journey. "I, came, as soon, as I could." The nature spirit reaches out and touches Dante's forehead. Her hand is as soft as the finest silk. Dante can feel her energy entering into his body to treat his wounds. The nature spirit removes her hand, and Dante falls to the ground, face down in the sand. "Rest now, wayward Tamer. There is much to be done."

Wormmon and Bogamon are recovering from battle at the oasis. Dante is asleep on a bed made of vines. The nature spirit conjures different kinds of food for the Digimon. Wormmon dives right into a pile of oranges. They take a massive bite into an orange, but quickly spit out the skin. "These orange balls taste funny." Bogamon's cuts from the fight with Renamon are slowly healing, and his energy is coming back. He starts stretching and practices punching. The nature spirit just watches on, waiting for Dante to awaken. Bogamon continues his exercises. "You seem to be very determined to train hard, young Digimon." "Of course. I'm training to be the toughest fighter in the world." Wormmon fills up on oranges, their large appetite satisfied for now. The little bug Digimon grows more curious about why Dante was seeking this place out.
"So, what's the deal here exactly? Are you some kind of a ghost Digimon?" The spirit shakes her head. "Nay, I am a Nature Spirit. While not a Digimon, I am native to the Digital World. My purpose is to protect this oasis and take care of lost souls wandering the desert." "So you have to stay here all the time? That must be so boring!" "Sometimes I long for adventure, but it is my destiny to guard this oasis. I will explain more when Dante wakes up." Wormmon frowns with his sideways mouth. Why would anyone want to be stuck in one place all the time? "Well, I guess there's worse places to be. It sure is beautiful here." Wormmon looks around the oasis. Various plants and trees surround a small pool of water in the middle. It appears as though the spirit can channel her own energy into the plants to make them grow and produce food.
Dante wakes up, and lets out a long groan. He sits up on the bed of vines and looks around the oasis. "It's real. I really made it here." The spirit floats across the pool of water over to Dante. "Did my healing take affect?" Even with her healing, Dante still has aches and pains from traveling across the desert. "I think it did, I still feel tired." The vines making up the bed wrap around Dante's arms and legs and lift him to the spirit. "It's best you don't put any strain on your body right now. When you are fully recovered, we will begin your training." "Training? Yay training! Ho ha, huh!" Dante struggles trying to break free from the vines. "Hey, what do you mean training? Can't you let me go?" "All in due time. You must understand your role in the events that are about to transpire."
The Nature Spirit raises up her arms, and vines rise out of the ground and raise her up above the pool of water. "It's time for a history lesson. You must have heard the truth about the dark triad on your journeys. But let's start from the beginning." ~Long ago, the Digital World was ruled over by three evil overlords. The Dark One, the Goddess of Destruction, and the Prince of Chaos. Bound together by their lust for power, their rule sent the Digital World into a state of anarchy. But in the end it was greed that broke the triad. The Prince was jealous of the bond between the Dark One and the Goddess, and set a trap to eliminate the Dark One and ensnare the Goddess. However, the trap backfired. Instead, The Goddess of Destruction lost their life, and the Dark One sent the Prince into the oblivion, never to return. That is, until you came along, Dante.
Dante knew the truth about the Dark Triad. He also knew Wormmon's direct connection. He didn't want Wormmon finding out about their dark past. Fortunately, the spirit decided not to tell Wormmon the truth. ~The Dark One remained in power, reigning over the world from his dark fortress. However, over time his empire began to shrink. By the time you became a Tamer, the Dark One was but an insignificant lord. In the end, it was Human pride that lead to the Prince of Tragedy returning. Several top engineers began construction of the data core, a device that can open portals between worlds. It was still years from being finished, until Shirou got his hands on it. I'm sure you haven't forgot what happened at the end of his tournament. Wizardmon, after using Team Takashi as fodder against the Defectors, acquired the data core, and released the Prince from his eternal prison. And thus, Piedmon is able to walk among us once more.
Dante had heard all of this before, but he still had questions. "But why us? Why did Piedmon capture all those Tamers?" The spirit looks down in sorrow, a single tear falling into the water. "That is the saddest, most twisted part of this story. Piedmon wants to mold you, Dante." "What do you mean?!" "Piedmon has set his eyes on you. He seeks to manipulate you into becoming what he wants. To turn you into a being every bit as cruel and wicked as he is." Dante is shocked. Why him? "That would never happen! I'll never be evil." "Not as long as I have a say in the matter. With my training, you'll be able to rescue your friends, and stop the Prince of Chaos once and for all." "But what is your role in this? What connection do you have to all of this?" "That is best left saved for another time. Eat up and go back to sleep. One day everything will be clear." The vines holding on to Dante let go. he spirit starts to glow bright yellow, and disappears in a flash of light. "Is she gone? I thought she had to stay here." Dante can still feel the spirit's presence. "No, she's still here. Oh enough with the mind games! I never said I wanted to be a hero! One day you move to Japan, get something called a Digimon, and then your entire life goes off the rails."

The next day, Dante, Wormmon, and Bogamon start their training under the tutelage of the Nature Spirit. The next few months are filled with rigorous training regiments, tests of endurance, even lectures and quizzes to educate the mind. As the months pass, their skills improve tremendously. Dante's long, lanky body becomes more tone and muscular. Bogamon becomes even more fit, already a mini body builder wannabe to begin with. Wormmon's agility in both their Rookie and Champion forms improves tremendously. By he time their training is over, Dante's hair is long and wavy, his dirty blonde roots showing through. "Aha! I knew it! Fire truck red isn't your natural hair color." Dante runs his fingers through his hair, wondering how to fix his hair. The Nature Spirit places her hands on Dante's cheeks, emitting energy from a spell. Dante's hair shoots up with energy, and gradually turns bright blonde, the same hair color as the spirit. "Holy crap! You look so different now." "Well get used to it. Too many enemies are on the lookout for a red haired tamer."
During their training, many important events happen around the Digital World. At the Dark One's Fortress, the guards are on high alert, after sensing a powerful energy signal getting closer. A couple of BlackAgumon look out into the surrounding wastelands. They spy a red and green figure out in the distance. Piedmon is marching towards the fortress. They alert the rest of the Dark One's forces, and prepare to defend the fortress. The Dark One starts panicking. "This can't be happening, not now! Where is Wizardmon?!" Wizardmon, his 2nd in command, has in fact been a double agent, working for Piedmon the entire time. The Dark One sends his men out to engage Piedmon. One by one, Piedmon eliminates the Dark One's forces, some with his Trump Sword attack. Others are turned into dolls. Most of the Dark One's top men, for one reason or another no longer serve him. ExVeemon Virus was defeated by the Defectors, and Leomon was exiled after Wizardmon betrayed him.
Piedmon makes his way inside the fortress. He is far too fast to get hit by any of their attacks, dodging with ease and slicing Digimon open with his Trump Swords. As Piedmon approaches the main chambers, the Dark One decides to abandon his precious fortress, and live to fight another day. Before he can make his escape, Piedmon bursts through the doors, and the two former members of the Dark Triad stare each other down. "So you've finally managed to escape." "Surely you didn't believe I was gone for good. I have returned to take what is rightfully mine." "You always were a fool. Lost in your own uncontrollable bloodlust." "You've had all this time to prepare for your defeat, and that's all you can say to me after so long?" Piedmon grins wickedly, laughing like a deranged psycho killer. "I can't stop you at my current power, but one day I will reclaim my fortress, and your blood will cover the floor." "Sure you will. Bye-bye, oh Dark One!"
Piedmon activates the data core, creating a massive portal betwee the two Digimon. The portal sucks in the Dark One, sending them to the same different reality they had trapped Piedmon so long ago. Piedmon has successfully taken over the Dark One's fortress. Now, he has a base of operations, and also has access to the Dark One's experiments and plans. "Ahh, yes. This old fortress will do nicely. Wizardmon! Have the men prepare a grand feast, and give me the details on the prisoners down in the dungeon." Wizardmon appears from the shadows, having been waiting there undetected. "Yes, Master. The next phase of your plan will be up and running in no time." Piedmon raises his hand and looks at the Revan and Sakiko dolls hanging from a key chain. "Ah, how delightful! Soon, Dante... soon I'll have your entire destiny in the palm of my hand!"

Dante is in the middle of completing his training. Meanwhile, Judith is staying at the village by the lake. Early in the morning, while the Digimon are collecting the fish for the day, Meramon returns and attacks the village. He launches a wave of fire towards the fishing equipment, causing a large explosion. The villagers panic, scrambling to run away from Meramon. Judith and Upamon run over to the shore, and Meramon sees them. "What's a Human doing here?" "We're not gonna let you steal from this village and destroy their homes any more!" Meramon walks over slowly to Judith. "You're wasting my time!" Meramon slaps Judith across the face. "Oh no, Judith!" "Shut up, you!" Meramon shoots a fire ball at Upamon. The little Digimon hops away, dodging fireballs and leading Meramon away from the shore.
Judith notices a crane next to the fishing equipment Meramon destroyed. She gets some Digimon together to set up a trap. Meramon follows Upamon, burning down some nearby huts. "Normally I'd just take your fish and go, but your village has proven quite resistant to my demands. Maybe I should just take your data instead!" Upamon looks up at Meramon ferociously. "I'll never give in to oppression!" Meramon kicks Upamon back, laughing at the little Digimon. "Once I'm through with you, I'll burn your pathetic friend alive, with the rest of this village!" Judith grabs the end of the crane and runs over. She throws the hook around the waist of Meramon, and it loops around and hooks onto the cable. Meramon is startled, and tries to break free. "Do it now!" The Digimon send the crane right into the lake. The crane yanks Meramon back to the shore, slowly pulling him under. "What is this?! Nooo! Not the water!" "You have harmed the innocent for long enough. Your fate is an act of justice." The crane continues sinking lower into the lake. Soon, Meramon is pulled under, the water extinguishing the flames on his body, dooming him to a slow and agonizing death.
Judith bends down and picks up Upamon. He has been badly burnt. "You... you really did it!" "I'm glad Meramon can no longer cause your people pain. Rest now, you're badly injured." "Thank you, you've saved the village! Will you stay here?" "I'm sorry, but I must get going soon. My idiot brother is probably going crazy trying to find me. Take care of yourself." Judith gives Upamon a kiss on the forehead. She gets ready and leaves the village, hoping to find her brother soon. However, she's about to run into a different familiar face.
Back at the oasis, Dante has finished his training. The Nature Spirit prepares a feast for the wayward travelers. Fruits and vegetables three times the size of normal plants. They pack up Bogamon's tomato kart, and get ready to set out into the desert. "You have completed your training. I know it was difficult, but it will prove necessary for the trails that await you. To the east of here is the desert trade city of Nubar. There, one of your friends is being held prisoner by the reigning Sultan, as part of a deal with Piedmon." "Really? Which one? I hope it's not Sal!" "That I can't tell you. With any luck you'll soon find out." "I can't thank you enough for everything. But I still don't even know you're name." The spirit looks down at Wormmon, then back at Dante. "It's been so long since I've heard my name spoken. You are the first travelers to come by here in many years. Maybe it's for the best I don't tell you. I've had a, complicated, relationship with the Goddess of Destruction."
Bogamon finishes getting his kart ready. "Are ya done yet? I've got tomatoes to sell!" Dante bows to the nature spirit. "Thanks again. I will save my friends, and stop the Prince of Tragedy." The Nature Spirit hands Dante his digivice. "Then you'll need this. I've upgraded it so I can communicate with you during your mission. Go, and best of luck!" Wormmon jumps up and down frantically. "Alright! Let's hit the sand! Nubar, the Worm King's coming!"

Dante, Wormmon, and Bogamon set out into the desert in Bogamon's tomato kart, heading towards the desert trade city Nubar. Bogamon pulls the kart through the sand, faster than before due to his intense training. "I can't wait to get to Nubar. My tomatoes are going to sell like crazy!" Dante stares down at his digivice. His mind begins to wander. Can he really save his friends from the clutches of Piedmon? Why him? Why was he the only one spared from Piedmon's wrath? The Defectors had been Tamers for years. If one of them had been tasked with this rescue, they would stand a lot better chance than Dante and Wormmon. They hadn't even rescued one of their friends yet. Hopefully things will start to look better once they reach Nubar.
Wormmon munches down some tomatoes. "Ooh, so many tomatoes! I've never gotten sick of a food before. They better have cheeseburgers in the city, Dante." "Oh, Nubar is wonderful! Traders from all over the world pass through Nubar. It's a connection stop between most of the major areas. The walls surrounding the city are almost as high as the clouds themselves." "I look forward to seeing it. Maybe we can recruit some more help. Would the ruling body help us out?" "Oh, fat chance! The city is ruled by the Sultan, and he controls Nubar with an iron fist. His only motivations are greed and vanity." "Sounds like a Human if you ask me." Whatever the case, they had to get to the city first, and it is still a day or two's walk away.
Meanwhile, Judith is navigating her way across a desert canyon. She carefully walks along the ledge, hugging the wall. "Oh, this is just great! If I ever see Piedmon again, I'm going to waterboard the piss out of that stupid clown!" As Judith makes her way across the canyon, the ground begins shaking. Rocks start falling down form above. The pathway gives out, and Judith is sent falling down to the bottom of the canyon. Before she crashes into the ground, a large Digimon dashes out and catches her, saving her from the fall and the rocks crashing down all around. The Digimon takes her to part of the canyon where it is safe, and sets her down. Judith looks up, and is shocked to discover Leomon is the Digimon that saved her. She just knows it's the same Leomon who had attacked her brother on multiple occasions. However, Leomon had scars across his chest and face that were not there before.
Judith struggles to speak up. "Th-thank you for saving me." Leomon looks down at Judith, showing little concern or emotion. "You do not belong her." "What gave it away? I'm trying to return to my world, but I've been lost for weeks. Maybe even longer. But why are you helping me?" Leomon lets out a light growl. "I have no purpose in life any more. I was exiled by my master, after Wizardmon betrayed me. I have no doubt that Wizadmon has turned on the Dark One by now." Leomon looks down at the ground, showing deep regret for what has happened. "I have no purpose, and you are an outsider. It is my duty to ensure that you return to your world. My own life is forfeit." Judith brushes some sand out of Leomon's mane. "You don't have to give up because of what other people believe. Thank you for helping me." Judith grabs her leg in pain. There's a large scrape from the fall. "You should take it easy. I will take you to a nearby city. Someone there should be able to open a portal back to your world." Leomon picks Judith up and puts her on his back. Leomon walks out of the canyon, heading towards a nearby city. Leomon's newfound generosity puzzles Judith, but she's in no position to turn down help.

After another day of venturing through the scorching desert, both groups are exhausted. Dante and Wormmon are riding in the back of Bogamon's tomato kart. Dante has taken off his shirt, and he's using the lid of a small crate as a fan to try and cool off. Still too hot, Dante undoes his belt and take off his jeans. "Oh my good! It's just so hot! Bogamon, please tell me we are almost there." Bogamon pulls the kart for a few more yards, then stops and falls forward into the sand. "Okay, I give up. Need, rest..." Dante puts his shirt on his head upside down, some of his hair still sticking out, and gets out of the kart to help Bogamon get up. Off in the distance, Leomon is walking through the desert, carrying a very dehydrated Judith on his back. Leomon notices the kart and walks over to check it out.
Dante sees a large figure getting closer. Soon he realizes it's Leomon. The lion Digimon comes close enough to see Dante, then stops. Dante notices Judith passed out on Leomon's back. "It's you Leomon! What are you doing with my sister?!" Leomon is puzzled for a moment. He doesn't recognize Dante because of his blonde hair. Judith wakes up and sees her brother. "Dante! We found you at last! Wait, why are you in your boxers?" "Dante?! Grr, I should've known by the awful smell that you are the red furred one!" "What do you think you're doing bringing my sister out into the middle of this hellish place?!" "No Dante, Leomon is helping me." "Ya right, like you can trust this monster." Leomon lets Judith down gently. "I gave my word to return her to your world, but my business with you is different. I want my rematch now!" Judith tugs on Leomon's arm. "Stop, please! You don't have to fight anymore."
"BAD KITTY!" Wormmon jumps out of the tamato kart wearing Dante's belt around his head. "It may be a bagillion degrees out here, but not even the fires of Sal's teenage hormones can't stop me from whooping your hairy cat ass!" Leomon smiles and licks his fangs. "I never thought I would run into you again so soon. It must be my lucky day." Dante takes his shirt off his head and throws it into the kart. Leomon is fatigued from walking through the desert. Wormmon should have the advantage. Bogamon steps in front of Dante. "I may be down and out, but I'll always fight to protect my friends! Tomato Cannon!" Bogamon fires a tomato, hitting Leomon in the face. Leomon grabs the tomato off his face and sticks it in his mouth. "Uh-oh, my bad!" Bogamon falls down into the sand again. "It figures. The weak confide with the weak." "Alright, Wormmon. Time to digivolve and teach this stray a lesson in payback!" "No, I'll fight him in my super sexy caterpillar mode! Hoo hah!" "Hmph, have it your way. So, Leomon. If it's an eye for an eye, how 'bout I scalp that disgusting mane of yours?!" Judith takes a few steps back. "Oh no, I just wanna go home! You're all behaving like idiots!"

Wormmon and Leomon step away from the kart. They circle around an open area of the desert, staring each other down. "I've been waiting to finally kick your butt for far too long!" "You are overconfident as ever. Only a fool would underestimate his opponent." Wormmon fires a sticky net at Leomon, but he just rips the net to pieces. Leomon charges forward and tries to kick Wormmon, but the Worm King jumps up and dodges the attack. Wormmon fires a silk thread right in Leomon's face. "Argh, I can't see! Damn your tricks!" Wormmon crawls up Leomon's leg. Leomon squirms around trying to grab Wormmon. The Worm King crawls onto Leomon's back and bites him on the back of the neck. Leomon roars in pain, then grabs Wormmon and throws him. Wormmon lands a few yards away and crawls back over. Leomon gets the silk out of his eyes.
Leomon pulls out his knife. "Playtime's over." Wormmon fires a dark seed, but Leomon deflects it with his knife. Leomon steps forward and kicks Wormmon. He goes to cut Wormmon with the knife, but Wormmon jumps up and lands on his arm. Lemon grabs Wormmon and throws him into the ground. He throws the knife, glancing Wormmon on the side. Wormmon clenches his side in pain, then picks up the knife. Leomon unleashes the Fist of the Beast King, hitting Wormmon and knocking him back. "You don't have to prove anything, Wormmon. You've done enough. It's time to digivolve!" "That's right. Somebody call 911, cuz the Juice is Loose!" Wormmon picks up the knife and throws it back at Leomon. Wormmon creates a cocoon out of thread and digivolves to Stingmon. "Finally. Now I won't feel bad about beating you."
Leomon picks up the knife and slits his own wrist. Judith is mortified. "Leomon, what are you doing?!" "Great, so he's an emo kitty." "My body is also covered with scars from my failure. Being humiliated by a fighter as pathetic as you is worthy of another scar." Stingmon grabs his wrist and charges up his energy cannon. "I've come too far to listen to you. There's too much at stake. You fight for pride. I fight for the people I care about. Something you don't know how it feels." Stingmon dashes towards Leomon with a fast punch. Leomon defends with a block, then punches Stingmon in the gut. Stingmon jumps back, then returns with a big kick to the ribs. Leomon responds with a punch, but Stingmon flies into the air. As Stingmon is flying up, Leomon jumps and grabs him by the leg. Leomon starts spinning Stingmon around. The lion roars and slams Stingmon into the ground. He gets up and dusts himself off. "Rrr, damn this infernal sand! How can I break your bones or bash your head open?" The lion is showing signs of fatigue. Traveling through the desert has taken a lot out of him.
Stingmon channels his energy into his spike. "A true warrior fights anywhere." Stingmon dashes towards Leomon with a spiking strike, but he pulls out his knife and deflects the spike. Leomon responds with a big back kick, taking Stingmon to the ground. Leomon lifts him up by his head. Stingmon throws sand in Leomon's face. Leomon lets go and grabs his face. "Do you ever fight fair?!" Stingmon knocks Leomon down with a sweep kick. "Dirtiest mon in the game." Stingmon soars up into the sky. Dante and Judith watch on. Judith is worried one of them is going to get seriously hurt. Stingmons charges up his energy cannon, and arcs back, heading towards the ground. At top speed, Stingmon rockets downward towards Leomon. He points down his energy cannon and charges a blast. "For great justice!" Stingmon fires his Moon Cannon just before impact. The contained blast creates a massive explosion, engulfing the two Digimon. When the sand settles, both Digimon are badly damaged, but still standing.
Judith cries out. "You have to stop the fight! We need to get out of this desert!" Leomon shakes the sand out of his mane. "This needs to be settled." Stingmon stretches his arms and back, staying loose. "I haven't even used all my attacks yet. You're in for it now, kitty. Nightmare Armor!" Stingmon channels his energy into his armor, turning it jet black and blood red. Stingmon poses and flexes, his new armor shining in the desert sun. "I doubt you have some kind of transformation. What are you gonna do, take your pants off?" "Great, neither one I going to back down. This is not the time to be fighting!" Leomon raises his fists, panting heavily from exhaustion. "You have many tools in you arsenal. All I really have is my knife and my fists. However, I do have one move I save for special occasions." "Oh sure. You're bluffing. You know that I'm totally awesome and you're just some stinky litter box baby. Get ready to eat sand, and lots of it!" The two Digimon stare each other down. "Damn it, once Stingmon starts fighting, he doesn't stop until he's defeated everything in his way. And this fight is personal."

Stingmon takes to the sky and circles around Leomon. Stingmon swoops down behind Leomon and stabs the lion in the back with a spiking strike. Leomon roars in pain, and takes a knee to the ground. Stingmon kicks Leomon in the butt, knocking him into the sand. Leomon quickly gets up and turns around, furious Stingmon is toying with him. Leomon lunges forward and knocks Stingmon back with a big fist. Stingmon charges forward, but Leomon grabs him and tosses him over his head into the sand. Stingmon gets up and takes to the sky again. Dante and Judith are getting anxious. "Oh, this battle proves nothing! They are both going to kill each other before they stop." Stingmon flies around, firing off small plasma energy blasts. Leomon guards with his forearms, taking some damage.
Even after walking through the desert, fighting Wormmon, and now fighting Stingmon in his Nightmare Armor mode, Leomon still had the will to keep fighting. Dante has never seen a Digimon take such a beating and continue the battle. "I don't have any other choice. You will not defeat me, Stingmon!" Leomon takes up a power stance, an channels his energy into his fists. "This is something I've been honing for longer than you can imagine. I call it my Beast King Obliterator!" Leomon's hands start glowing with energy. He raises his hands up. Stingmon hovers in the air, anticipating Leomon's next move. "Call it what you like, I still have plenty of energy left!" Two large fists made of energy appear on either side of Stingmon. Leomon brings his fists together, and the two energy fists collide, squashing Stingmon like a fly. Leomon drops his arms down. The fists disappear, and Stingmon falls down to the sand, devolving to Wormmon. "A pittance. I can tell you've improved your strength tremendously. But you're still inferior to me."
Dante can't believe it. This is the first time Stingmon has ever actually lost a fight. Leomon walks over to Wormmon and pulls out his knife. Judith runs up and grabs Leomon's arm. "No! You've won. You don't have to kill your prey." Leomon is reluctant to put down his knife. He has waited months to finally face Wormmon in a real fight. Leomon stares down at the helpless bug. Whether it was Judith, or Leomon actually had a sense of decency, the beast king puts his knife back. Leomon picks up Wormmon and hands him to Judith. "I have settled my grudge. And I will still honor my promise to you. Get in the kart and I'll pull the rest of the way." Judith smiles up at the beast king. He's covered in cuts and bruises, and exhausted from the hot desert sun. "Thank you, Leomon. Now let's get out of this damn desert! And Dante, put some clothes on!" "Never!"
Dante, Wormmon, Bogamon, and Judith get in the tomato kart. Leomon picks up the two poles and takes off across the sand, pulling the kart faster than Bogamon ever did. The ride is a little bumpy, but they are making good time. Dante is uncomfortable traveling with Leomon. The very same Digimon that hunted him mercilessly, that put his friends in danger, and even punched Dante in the face and cut off a chunk of hair after the data core tournament. However, it was for the best to ignore that for the time being and get out of the desert. After a couple hours of pulling the kart, the group finally arrives at the desert trade city of Nubar. "Ow, my head hurts. I hope they have a good spa here." "You were right Bogamon, the walls are so high!" Leomon pulls the kart up, and gets in a line of trade caravans arriving at the city. "Ah, good old Nubar. Capitalism at its most wicked. I know just where we should go first." Finally at Nubar, the group is about to face a new set of challenges. The Sultan holds one of their friends prisoner, and it won't be easy to rescue them.

The group makes their way through the trade district. Dante is uneasy about Leomon accompanying them, but he doesn't appear hostile now that they have had their fight. A large crowd of Humans and Digimon alike begins gathering in the streets. "Oh, we're in for a treat! It looks like the Sultan is about to address the city." The group follows the crowd to a large palace in the center of town. Overlooking the streets is a high balcony with fancy white marble railings and decorative banners. "Who does this guy think he is?" A band of musicians plays eastern music in the streets. The Sultan walks out on the balcony. He is wearing white and gold robes with a large white turban, with a light blue jewel on the front of the turban. His hair is long and wavy, as black as a raven. The Sultan walks up to the railing and raises his hands to the sky. The crowd erupts with cheers as he address the people.
"What a grand day for the city of Nubar! May the trader's pocket overflow with gold. While the world crumbles around us, Nubar continues to thrive! That is why it is my honor to announce a competition like no other! There will be a tournament to determine the Champion of the city. The winner will receive a position on my royal staff, and more gold than you can even imagine. The preliminary rounds will begin tomorrow. Signups shall start today. I can guarantee you the spectacle of a lifetime! Pick up your tickets while they are still available. Thank you, citizens of Nubar, and the noble traders that make this city the wealthiest in all the land!" The crowd cheers loudly. The Sultan walks back into the palace. Dante, Wormmon, Bogamon, and Leomon are excited about the tournament. "Can you believe it?! We get to fight in front of a stadium full of people! Imagine the prize money!" "Ya! Oh please tell me we're going to enter, Dante!"
Dante gives Wormmon a thumbs up. "Oh, we're there, little buddy. A tournament is just what we need to gain an audience with the Sultan. Maybe we can negotiate the release of whoever he's keeping prisoner for Piedmon." Leomon just stands there and grumbles under his breath. "What's wrong, big guy? Aren't you excited about fighting in the tournament?" "I do not fight for glory and money. I refuse to prostitute my skills for the amusement of the weak." Bogamon gives Leomon the stink eye. "Really, huh? Well a real fighter never backs down! Fame and fortune are just a bonus." "Maybe Leomon's afraid that if we battled again, he wouldn't be so lucky." Judith gets upset with Wormmon. "Leomon carried me through the desert, kicked your butt, and still had enough strength to pull us all the way to the city." Dante is agitated his sister is sticking up for Leomon over Wormmon. "Well Wormmon and Bogamon are definitely going to enter. Leomon can make up his mind on his own. Let's go sign up."
The party heads to one of the sign up stalls and enters the competition. Something catches Leomon's eye. Suddenly he gets very angry and has a change of heart. "I have decided to enter." "Way to go, big guy! What made you change your mind?" "I saw somebody from my past entering. I might just get the chance to face them again." Wormmon's stomach starts to growl. "Ohh, I'm so hungry! We've been eating nothing but tomatoes." "You're right, let's get something to eat." The party heads to the food district to find a place to eat. They will have to load up on carbs if they are going to be ready for the tournament.

The party finds a pizzeria and goes inside for some pizza. The pizzeria looks like it has seen better days. The group sits down and decides what to order. Meanwhile, Piedmon is up to no good at the dark fortress. The Prince of Chaos takes a sip of wine. "Ah, everything is as it should be. But I can't help but want to have a little fun." Piedmon takes out the Sakiko doll and throws it to the center of the room. In a cloud of smoke the doll expands, and Sakiko reappears. "Ah, welcome my darling!" Sakiko sees Piedmon and is terrified. "Why are you doing all of this?!" "Are you saying you wouldn't do anything it takes to get back the one you love? You're just part of the process. Come with me, child." Piedmon escorts Sakiko through the fortress. He takes her down to the dungeon. "There's an old friend of yours just dying to see you, Sakiko."
Piedmon takes Sakiko down to the lowest cell. Sakiko's heart sinks as she sees her long lost Digimon partner. Devimon is locked inside a dark cell, bound by chains. Piedmon holds Sakiko close. "Does it hurt, my girl? Does it make you hate me even more? I bet you want your friends to come here and kill me. Well too bad, because nobody's coming! Ahahahaha!!!" Sakiko starts to cry. "You monster! Let him go right now!" Devimon cries out to Sakiko. Seeing his Tamer triggers a surge of energy. He tries to break the chains, but is unsuccessful. "Don't bother. The Dark One may be a coward, but he knows how to keep his prisoners locked away. Well, most of them I suppose." Sakiko punches Piedmon in the gut. "Dante's going to come and save us! And when that day comes you'll be nothing but a bad memory!" Piedmon doesn't even flinch. "Now now, there's no reason to be impolite. I'd hate to kill your last shred of hope, but Dante's not coming for you. Nope, he's got better things to do." "You're lying! Stop it!" "Hahahaha! Dante doesn't want you around, Sakiko. He's already chasing after other girls." Sakiko's facial expression turns angry. "Ah, you have feelings for the young Tamer, do you now? Wahaha! You fancy him a love interest." Sakiko's toes tighten up, and she clenches her fists. "That's... not true." "Don't lie to me, I don't have the patience. I know how you feel inside. Your little boy toy has forgotten about you, and it will be years until I let you see the light of day again."
Piedmon grabs Sakiko by the neck and drags her away. Sakiko turns back to Devimon and sticks her hand out. "Devimon! I'm sorry!" Devimon starts trashing about in his cell. The chains clank together, and the dungeon starts to rumble. "That's enough out of you! It's time for the next phase of my master plan. Come, girly. The next time you see Devimon, he won't be your partner any more." Piedmon takes Sakiko out of the dungeon. Meanwhile back at Nubar, the group is eating pizza. Dante's necklace starts to glow. He grabs his head in pain. "Dante, what's wrong?!" "...Sa, kiko..." The pendant on the necklace glows bright purple. "Sakiko?! What's going on Dante?" The necklace stops glowing. Dante puts his hands down. "It's Sakiko. It's like I can feel her pain. I'm going for a walk." "You can't leave now, Dante! There's pizza! We've gotta be ready for the tournament." "I won't be long. You can stay at the hotel a couple blocks down. I'll see you there." Dante walks out of the pizzeria. Wormmon and Judith are concerned. "Dante... I hope everything's alright."

Dante walks down the streets of the city, his mind racing with thoughts. What was Piedmon planning? What was the tournament going to be like? Suddenly he hears a noise coming from a back alley. He turns and sees a shadow moving across the wall. He turns and runs down the alley, following the shadow. Dante turns around the corner and sees Wizardmon standing at a dead end. "Damn, I must be getting too old for surveillance work." Dante's heart fills with rage. Wizardmon was responsible for stealing the data core and releasing Piedmon after Shirou's tournament. "You!" Dante storms over and grabs Wizardmon by the cloak. "Anything to say before I give you the beating you deserve?!" Wizardmon just stares up at Dante. "I suppose you deserve some answers. Tis only fair." Dante lets go and punches Wizardmon in the face. "You better start talking."
Wizardmon rubs his face in pain. "Ow! Guess I deserved that. You must understand I have no personal grudge against you. I am only serving my master." "What is Piedmon up to? Why are you here?" "I see I couldn't fool you. Yes, Piedmon is very interested in this tournament. We even have an entrant or two." Would Dante have to face one of Piedmon's minions? "You have every right to hate me, Dante. Just understand I support your cause. Save your friends, Dante. Travel the Digital World and either ally with or defeat Piedmon's associates. And only once you have freed every one of them, confront Piedmon and rescue the final ones." "Who does Piedmon have with him?" Wizardmon's eyes look sinister. "Piedmon is keeping Sakiko and Revan close by." "Grr, what is he up to?! Why is he doing all of this?!" "Because my master takes what he wants. And he wants the Goddess of Destruction to return. Take care, wayward son. If Wormmon ever reaches Mega, there is no going back." Wizardmon disappears in a purple cloud of smoke. Dante kicks a trash can over. "I hope when that day comes, we will be ready for it."
Dante heads over to the hotel. He meets up with Judith and Bogamon waiting in the lobby. "There you are. We were getting worried." "No need. Everything's fine. Where are the others?" "The Worm King and the big kitty are upstairs training for the tournament. Leomon is practicing his stances while Wormmon is choreographing poses." Dante lets out a long groan. "I'm feeling pretty tired tonight. Might just go to bed early." "Me too. Let's call it a night." Bogamon looks disappointed. "But you said we were gonna sneak off to the tavern." Judith looks embarrassed. "Oh, the tavern can wait. Let's go to our rooms." The three of them head to their rooms and get ready for bed. The next morning, Dante wakes up to Bogamon jumping up and down on the bed. "Wake up! It's tournament day! Oh I'm so excited!" "Alright, calm down!" The group gets ready and heads to the arena for the preliminaries.
There, they stand in line waiting to be admitted. Hundreds of contestants have shown up to participate. "The flyer says only eight combatants will make it to the tournament. I wonder how they are going to thin out the heard." "They should just put all these clowns in the ring with the three of us and we'll knock out every single one! Right guys?" Leomon chuckles. "I have to say, your enthusiasm is contagious." Dante notices a young woman walking over. She has red hair, and is wearing a black and white tank top, a red skirt, a fake fox tail, and fox ears. She is accompanied by Bokomon, a small Digimon wearing a pink band around its waist. The girl notices Dante and comes running up. "Ahh oh my god it's you! It's really Dante!" Judith gives Dante a confused look. "It's nice to meet you. What's your name?" The girl stands with her heels touching and bows to Dante. "My name is Misty, this this little fella here is my Tamer!" "Wait, you're Tamer?!" Bokomon takes a digivice out of his waistband. "That's correct, young man! You see Misty here is a Spirit Wielder, and I accompany her as a guide and mentor." Misty bends over and picks up Wormmon. "Isn't that great? I'm a Digimon just like you!" Misty gives Wormmon a big hug, squishing him tight. "Ach! Danteeee!!!" Misty hands Wormmon over to Dante. "You're even cuter in person! Although I do miss the red hair." Dante blushes. "Ah thanks. So I guess you're here to watch me compete?" "Na uh! I'm fighting in the tournament! I hope we get to face each other! Bye-bye for now." Misty leans in and gives Dante a kiss on the cheek. Misty turns and happily skips away with Bokomon.
Dante just stands there with a surprised look on his face. "Oh, here we go." "What? It's perfectly normal for one of my female fans to get a little excited meeting me in person." "Well we will see if your head is still that big if Leomon gets to kick your butt again. No offense, Wormmon." "I like her, Dante! She smells like popsicles." Everyone: Like popsicles?! The line finally starts moving. "Ah, it shouldn't be much longer now." Eventually the group gets to the front. They are assigned numbers and head to the locker room to prepare for the preliminaries. What other Digimon have entered the Desert Tournament? What old friend might they run into again? And which entrants were working for the evil Piedmon? They were going to find out, dishing out one whooping at a time.
