There was a short silence as she exchanged phones with the young woman, inputting her number. After she was done, she glanced at her Digimon on the ground, before offering the phone back to Alicia. During this time, the Rookie had finally calmed down and was trying to shake dirt out of his fur and ears. How did the dirt even get in there? Oh well. It needed out, and that was all that mattered.
"That sounds tough," Maia admitted, listening to the story. "I bet the next school you apply to, it'll work out, though." Was this just wishful thinking, or did the girl actually have faith in someone's cooking, despite never trying it before? The redhead before her seemed friendly enough, and she couldn't imagine Alicia not putting her heart into cooking. But, it made her wonder if she needed to really start thinking of a career. After all, she was almost to the point of being thrown into the adult world. While Alicia seemed to be alright, despite her falls, would Maia be able to recover that easily?
Then again, it didn't sound like 'easily' was the right descriptor, either. Trying to think of some sort of response to add, all the tamer could find was, "I don't know, it sounds like you're doing pretty well to me." After all, Alicia seemed to have found a way to bounce back when the chips didn't fall how she had hoped. That was admirable, as is! On top of that, she was stuck in the weird Digimon trap that seemed to be consuming way too many people that Maia was meeting. How could someone even balance being an adult, working, and dealing with anything Digimon related?
"You're gonna win, anyway!" the pipe fox announced, still trying to shake dirt from his ear. "You're gonna be a chef-person, and I'm gonna eat your food!" Well, the Kudamon did greatly enjoy eating. Chances were, he'd be thrilled to try the spirit user's cooking if she worked toward becoming a chef. Then again, it would be awfully hard to smuggle the fox into a restaurant. "You've got a lot of time to get it all to work out!" After all, people didn't get old or anything! Or want to be successful early on in life. Why would they want that? "You'll be the best at it, okay? Except with cookies, because I promised Maia's would always be the best." There was a determined nod with this statement, as his tamer only gave him a dull stare. Her Digimon was too full of energy and just plain weird.

Alicia smiled in return at Maia's comments. "It was pretty tough, yeah. I still wonder how I managed all this time already. Still, it never hurts too keep up hopes for better results the next time around. I know if I can just keep poking around enough, I'll find one that'll take me in. It just needs more time."
"Perseverance in the face of failure is one of the greatest traits humans can show, I dare say..." Sol quipped, speaking up again after his brief period of silence. "While I am powerless to help you on that front, I do wish you good luck in your endeavors."
"Thanks..." Alicia whispered softly to the spirit. It was when Kudamon started talking about how long he apparently thought she had that a thought occurred to her. The redhead's eyes widened as she looked to Kudamon, before slowly adjusting her gaze to rest on his tamer.
"... He... He doesn't know about... that about us, does he...?" she asked carefully, trying to imply what 'that' was without actually uttering the topic in question. She certainly didn't want to be the one to break the Kudamon's bubble of falsehood in such a brutal manner. "That we... you know..." How does one mention the inevitable end all humans face without actually saying 'oh by the way we don't reincarnate when we die' or something similar?
"... He's in for a very rude awakening somewhere down the line. And he doesn't even realize that he must treasure every moment he still has more then he already does... For the life of a human is brief and fleeting, a mote of light in a sea of stars."
Alicia nodded to herself at the Spirit's assessment, looking down a bit.

There was this almost awkward silence, as Maia looked between her Digimon and then to Alicia. Did Kuu know anything about humans and death? That actually made for a great question! A really difficult one to approach, however. Still, the girl managed to have a neutral expression to all of this. Up until now, she hadn't really considered what would even happen to a Digimon once their partner died. Sure, she had found out yesterday about the whole reincarnation thing for Digimon, but humans didn't do that.
"I guess I thought he did?" Was the answer that finally emitted from the girl's mouth. "We've never had that conversation, but he watches a lot of television where people," and then she paused, thinking about it. Movies and series were not necessarily good depictions of death. Heck, half the time, the hero ends up coming back to life or something!
If Kuu had an inkling of what was being discussed, he sure hid it well! In fact, he was busy looking at the tree behind Alicia, and sticking his tongue out to taste the bark. Once he established that it was rough and not particularly to his preferences, he began shaking his head violently, tongue still poking from his mouth, with several gurgling sounds escaping from his throat. Nope! Trees didn't taste good! In fact, there was dirt in his mouth now! Why did he do that?! Better question: Why didn't anybody keep a close enough eye on him to stop him from doing that?
The tamer didn't really seem to care much, though, only glancing at her Digimon briefly. At least he wasn't getting into trouble. Licking a tree was the least of her worries with him. On the bright side, it didn't look like he had swallowed any bugs yet. Yet. Amber eyes shifted back to Alicia, a concerned expression beginning to form, albeit only slightly. "Do you think I should tell him? I don't know how it might affect him." After all, what if learning that all the humans he knew would die actually affected how the little fox acted on a daily basis? Sure, she could enjoy it if he calmed down a bit, but she certainly didn't want to break him.

Alicia bit her lower lip at Maia's admission of Kuu potentially being ignorant of the whole issue. If he really didn't know, that was going to be a very hard pill for him to swallow, no matter how cheery he was. The Kudamon acted so much like a little kid that she was worried about the same thing Maia was, that telling him the truth would break him from the pressure on his heart. And now Maia was asking her about when, or even if, she should tell him? How was she supposed to answer that?
"You'll have to use your best judgement Alicia... I believe there is no right answer here unfortunately. Only different variations of heartbreak once the truth emerges. This is the kind of thing that hits us hard no matter who we are or how we try and hide the pain." Sol mused, putting his two cents in on the topic at hand. A number of emotions played over the Spirit User's face as she mulled her answer over. She went from worried to confusion, and from there to fear. Finally her fear turned into what seemed almost like resignation.
"That's not an easy question to answer, Maia, though I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that..." Alicia began, carefully measuring her reply. "I can only begin to imagine what the truth would do. And all I can do is tell you what I would do in your shoes. As for what that would be? I think not telling him soon would, while you can still control some of the variables that situation has, would be the biggest mistake. The thing is, it's frighteningly easy to die in the Digital World from what I've experienced. And even our own real world is never truly safe at any given moment. I think if he loses you without knowing that it would really be over after that, he wouldn't be able to survive the grief and guilt."
Alicia heaved a heavy sigh and looked down, before continuing again. "So... yes. I think you should tell him. Try and set it up to make the impact on him as light as possible. Better to know now and understand how important it is for him to protect you when you really need it, then to slip up at that one critical moment..." Alicia grimaced openly, as the multiple ways a human can die played in her mind as potential fates for both of them. "In the end, though, that's a call for you alone to make. You're his Tamer, his partner, and you need to look out for him mentally and emotionally. Just as he looks after you physically to the best of his ability." That certainly wasn't an easy thing to say. None of it was. But Maia did ask her, so she was obligated to do the best she could.
"I suppose that's the best way anyone could've put that..." Sol agreed to the train of thought. He, sadly, had nothing to say that could make this any better or easier to deal with.

Maia didn't necessarily feel right putting someone else on the spot with her own responsibilities, but considering the topic, it was hard to make such a call on her own. But, judging from the myriad of expressions that Alicia was making, it wasn't an easy decision on her part, either. Maybe, it would have been better just not to have asked. Ah, well. It already happened. "I was worried that's what you'd say," she sighed, throwing a glance to the seemingly stupid fox. She didn't really want to think about it too much, but it was something necessary.
Still, Alicia had a point. Yesterday had been a perfect example, but between her Digimon and another, nothing bad had happened to her. "Yeah, I've already learned the lesson about near-deaths regarding Digimon," she admitted, with a small shudder. The world was going to make her hate spiders yet, she was sure. With a sigh, she crossed her arms. "But, I need to find a good time to break it to him." Hopefully said time would not be while he was goofing off in a bad situation. She'd have to work up a way to discuss it in the very near future.
Finally, Kuu was tired of distracting himself, and trotted back over to the two. Or, was it technically three? Did spirits count as people? They weren't really individuals, after all. "I have the emotional range of a cactus!" he informed, as if he had only heard the most recent bit of the conversation, regarding physical and emotionally being there for one another. "Oh, wait. What's a cactus again? No. Maybe it's a..." he paused, before rambling out several items, shaking his head each time with a, "no, not that either," and continuing in that pattern. Finally, he just gave up mid-suggestions, and huffed a, "I'm emotional, okay?" Was he really, because the most Maia ever got out of him was hungry, whiny, and excited. Unless by emotional, the Rookie meant that his emotions had a tendency to swing very heavily into one of those options each time. Did that mean he'd become whiny if he found out she could die and not come back?
These thoughts were giving the girl a headache.
"I'm... sure you're full of emotions," the tamer finally answered, before looking back to Alicia. "It's a good subject for later," she suggested, trying to consider when a good time would be to talk about such a topic. It's not like that was something that often fell into conversation easily. "In the meantime, maybe we should discuss other things?" After all, there was no reason to dampen Kuu's mood right now, right?

Alicia winced a bit as Maia mentioned she was well aware of near-death experiences. She hadn't expected the girl to have gotten into that kind of trouble already. Did it have anything to do with the other Spirit User she met yesterday? No way to find out, as she wasn't about to poke at that topic.
And then Kuu popped by apparently completely misunderstanding the conversation. Probably for the best all things considered. The Steel Spirit User just sighed and shook her head at Kuu's continuing antics. "Sure, sure, you're a hyper active little one I see." Alicia quipped in response, smiling.
She agreed with Maia that it was best to change topics now, nodding to herself. "Yeah, later. So... Got any plans for what you're going to do on the real world side of things? I get that having Kuu around can make things... rather trying but I'm sure you can figure something out, right?" It was the best she could think of at the moment, considering she didn't know much about the younger lady at all.
By this point Sol had taken a back seat to things, seeming to go to sleep for the moment if the soft and deep breathing Alicia barely noticed was any indication. She figured she couldn't blame him. Apparently Spirits needed to take a nap here and there too? Either way, she figured he wouldn't be waking up for much so she didn't bother trying to get his attention. There wasn't really much he could contribute to the situation anyways.

"Nuh-uh," Kuu turned his head away from Alicia, in almost a rebellious manner. "I'm just energetic!" Not that there was much of a difference there, but he just needed to be able to disagree with something. This, of course, was followed up with a, "can I climb on you?" Oh, good. He asked for once. This was progress. As the spirit user had already noticed, he wasn't too keen on being polite or appropriate in most situations. His tamer certainly wasn't going to complain about this.
Maia thought about the question, throwing a glance up at the trees. What were her plans in the real world? Short or long term? "Well... I don't know," she admitted. "I'm mostly focused on passing my classes in high school." Some nights, Kuu made it a little difficult to focus on homework, after all, but her grades weren't slipping yet. Yet. If he tried to eat her homework again, though, she was going to have to put him in a box and tape it shut at night. 'My Digimon at my homework' didn't seem like a plausible excuse. Especially when he had to be kept a secret.
"Maybe I can get into being an artist for some sort of company or something?" This was mostly directed at herself, but the thought was still aloud. Why hadn't she already thought these things through? She was already seventeen! There was only so much time she'd be able to use 'too busy with school' as an excuse not to know about her own future. Art wasn't necessarily a good route to take when it came to careers, though. This wasn't something she was naive to. With a sigh, she shrugged, "Not many ideas. I mean, my only decision I've been working on is if I want to tell my parents about Kuu or not." This was actually a pretty big choice, after all. "I mean, I could probably pass him off as a ferret or something with an obsession with that... tube... thing. Right?" Maybe not-so-much.

"Same difference," Alicia shot back at Kuu with a smirk. At the very least the little fox was good at making one's day brighter. Even if it came at the cost of driving his poor tamer up the metaphorical tree in frustration. "And sure, go right ahead." She noted after the question was asked. She did kind of like having the little guy on her shoulder. Then again she might have had a different opinion if she had to put up with him 24/7 like Maia did.
Still, with that out of the way, she turned to refocus on Maia herself as the young tamer related what plans she did have. Well, ideas that is, but at least she had something in mind. That was more then most young adults had as they neared the end of their time in school. Still, art was a very dangerous plan to have. More so then her own dreams of being a chef. At least if she made her dreams happen she had a fair chance of getting a decent job somewhere just by virtue of the fact that people need to eat.
Maia, on the other hand, would be completely reliant on whether people liked what she made or not. And that also comes with the additional can of worms of people potentially trying to corral her into something she didn't want to make. That kind of stifling killed anyone's creative ideas. "Well, I wish you good luck on that. But please, please make sure you have a back up plan if things go sour, alright?" the redhead cautioned gently. She figured Maia already knew how tough her dream job would be, but a word of caution never hurt.
Wait... she was considering telling her parents about Kuu? Alicia's eyes went rather wide at that, taking a look at Kuu before returning to Maia. "Uuh... I think that's gonna be a hard enough sell as is if he keeps quiet... As soon as he opens his mouth, which seems to be whenever he's excited, the fox'll be loose in the hen house and your going to have a bad time cleaning that mess up. But if you do go with it, call me up and let me know how that works out for you. I'll help where I can."

Hearing the okay, Kuu squealed a, "yay!" before rapidly weaving his way up and onto Alicia's shoulder. Good place to be! Yellow eyes darted around the area from the Spirit User's shoulder, then he settled on staring at her hair for a while. He hadn't met anyone with red hair until today! Or.. had he? Oh, the things to debate on! Somehow, getting sucked into his own mind with this, the Digimon only made an occasional hum, while tilting his head in varying directions.
"Yeah. I definitely need to think of a few backup plans," the tamer agreed. After all, she couldn't guarantee that she'd even want to draw for a job when it was also a form of relaxation for her. "I'd consider something with programming, but that's probably a difficult job to get into, too." Again, it was hard to even imagine anything past attempting not to fail her classes. She didn't even want to consider college at the moment, since she hadn't settled on a career quite yet. Oh, well. She still had a little time to make a decision. Heck, maybe she'd just run off to the Digital World and not worry about a job. That seemed plausible, right?
Except for the fact that Maia wasn't quite fond of the Digital World.
It was fairly obvious what Alicia's response was going to be, before she even said anything, in regards to trying to convince her parents that Kuu was some sort of animal. This reaction was why she had been hesitating on it. "I know. He talks when he's bored, too. But, I'm worried he's going to get out of my room while I'm at school or something, and my parents are going to panic." That wouldn't be surprising, after all. She was amazed that everything had gone smoothly so far.
"About that," the Digimon started, breaking the positive spirit that his tamer had been in seconds before. Maia's eyes turned to the little monster, as he seemed to snap out of his internal debate. Oh no. What was he going to say now? "I already met your dad."
What? Wait. No. That's not how things were supposed to work.
Amber eyes were wide, not even able to look at Alicia at this point, "w-what?" Nothing else seemed like a sufficient response to this. How had they met? Her dad was usually at work when she left the Digi alone!
"Yeah, he brings me snacks sometimes. It's great. You gotta expect this stuff when you're 'talking to yourself' in your room, you know."
That would be a good point, if talking on the phone or through the computer to her friends wasn't such a common thing. She had hoped to pass it off as just talking to someone from America. Too late now, it seemed. Lips parted, searching for some sort of proper response. "Well..." she started, finally managing to look at the redhead, "I guess I don't have to call you to tell you how that goes?"

Alicia chuckled a bit as the Kudamon scurried up to her shoulder like a bolt of lighting once she told him it was alright. It actually kind of tickled a bit if she had to be honest! Soon enough to little mon was right back up on his perch and seemed to be internally debating what to focus on before finally deciding on her hair. Fair enough, the Spirit User supposed, as red wasn't exactly common.
"Mmm, programming of any kind is indeed going to be hard to get into. It's a lot like learning a whole new language, or even set of languages, just to figure out how everything ticks. Good luck if you go that route though, since you'll be set for life if you can manage it. Programming is only going to become more prominent." Alicia mentioned off hand at the idea, before smirking a bit. "Who knows, if you go that route maybe you can even tweak Kuu a bit so he's not always driving you crazy!" That second line was more a joke then any kind of serious suggestion. As she thought about it, the Digital World was, as it's name stated, digital right? That the normal inhabitants there were, at the very basis of their beings, extremely advanced programs.
That did bring up more questions about what happened to humans that went there though. And even more questions still about herself, Elliot, and Isaac, who all became Digimon to protect themselves, instead of having a bonded partner. Those were questions she doubted anyone currently present had the answer too, so she didn't drag the conversation down by voicing them.
Then Kuu's admission on having already met Maia's dad drove all sounds out of the area for a brief moment. Alicia was sure the "hear a pin drop in the silence" phrase applied in this scenario. Then the absurdity of the moment caught up to her once Maia was done talking, the redhead starting to snicker a bit before going into full blown laughter.
"Oh for crying out loud, this is literally like one of those comedy routines. Ha... just our luck, huh?" the Steel Spirit User mused once she caught her breath. Well that was one worry off everyone's shoulders one would guess.

The blonde smiled, listening to what Alicia had to say. Honestly, programming didn't seem overly difficult to the girl, but she wasn't going to say that. There was plenty for her to learn regarding it, so she was surely going to find a few holes in that thought after a short while. And, while the joke made her smile, she felt the need to add, "there's no spot to plug anything into him."
After all, that had been one of the first thoughts when she got her digivice. Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be any ports on it! Especially none compatible with human technology! Oh well, it was for the best. Despite Kuu being utterly exasperating most of the time, she really wouldn't trade him for anything. Though, the thought of altering whatever he was made of to better him was always a nagging consideration. But, probably a very bad idea. She didn't want to accidentally give him a virus or something. Who knew what would happen if someone tampered with a Digimon's makeup?
She'd leave that to someone insane enough to mess with their own Digimon.
With a sigh, she put her hands in her pockets. Now, she was directing questions to Kuu. "If you met my dad, does that mean Mom knows, too?"
To this, the fox on Alicia's shoulder began rapidly shaking his head. "No way! She's scary!" This was kind of a relieving response. On one hand, it would have been much easier to pass off if they both knew, on the other... her mom was probably going to be the one freaking out. "Dad says not to tell her."
"Kuu, he's not your dad. You don't have to call him Dad."
Eyes dully shifted to his tamer, with a matter-of-fact voice, "when I met him, I said I was hungry and he said he was Dad. Then he made me soup. His name is Dad, Maia. You can't tell me not to call people by their names."
Well, it was good to know that the Kudamon didn't understand Dad-jokes. Still, his tamer had to take another breath. Maia turned her attention back to the Spirit User. "Well, that's out of the way, at least. If I tell my mom, I'll call you about it. But, if one of them knows, it's a good enough start." This was true, anyway, considering it seemed like her mother was always busy and out of the house. It worked well for her, since that meant her mom couldn't be overprotective. "You're lucky you don't have a Digimon running around your house, huh?"

Alicia smiled softly at the interplay between Tamer and Digimon, giggling a bit herself as Maia added on her two cents to the joke. "That is pretty true from what I see. And even if you could even the best programmers probably wouldn't be able to make heads or tails of whatever makes Digimon up anyways." She certainly wasn't willing to even seriously consider trying it. A small part of this did stem from the fact that she had no idea what effect it would have on her and whether she played by different existential rules by being a human that turns into a Digimon. Either way all things considered it was a terrible idea in actuality.
"Uh, Kuu, that's not what- ... you know what, never mind" Alicia shook her head as she started to try correcting him on this particular misunderstanding. She decided half way through to give up on that while she was ahead since she doubted she'd get it through the mon's thick skull. Plus it seemed Maia would prefer things remain the way they are with regards to that topic.
"Alright then. Still, no real need to push for that idea anyways. Plus you'll have your dad's support in getting that all settled." She then leaned back and looked up for a moment, considering the last part for a moment. Was she really lucky? "Well... to be honest I would actually like having a partner running around. I live alone in a small little house so it gets kind of lonely. Especially if most Rookies are this small." Smiling, she reached up and scratched Kuu's ears gently at that.
"Even if the little one was as rambunctious and destructive as i'm guessing Kuu is for you, I don't think I could bring myself to really get angry. Any permanent company is good company when you live alone long enough."

Kuu looked at Alicia as she began to tell him something, only to cut it short. Oh well! It must not have been important! He would have to talk to Dad about how nobody seemed to understand that it was his name. These were important things to discuss! What if other people didn't call him by his name, too? That would just be heartbreaking!
Hearing the redhead talk about living alone made Maia rethink what she had said. Maybe, a Digimon wouldn't be so horrible if she didn't have to hide him in her bedroom all day. "I guess I didn't think about that," she shifted. "I haven't seen too many that are much bigger. My neighbor has two that are kind of cat and weasel sized. I met some dinosaur ones yesterday, but they're still quite a bit smaller than a person." Of course, these were also the only tamers that she had met with above in-training level Digimon. Kai and Shi. The other tamers were all too new to have Rookies. There was a part of her that would like to see the size differences between the varying rookie leveled monsters in the Digital World, but the majority of her mind just said this was a terrible thought and it needed to cease immediately. After all, she wasn't particularly fond of the idea of travelling the Digital World.
Having his ears scratched, there was a happy coo that emitted from the monster's throat. He tilted his head toward the hand, trying to get the most out of this attention. Still, he managed out an, "I like to eat socks," before becoming too absorbed in the scratching.
This was a statement that his tamer could easily vouch for. It was a shame that she had such an aversion to mismatching socks, considering it was inevitably going to end up that she would never have matching ones. "At least he can't inhale a bunch of air and then deflate himself across the room like a balloon. He loved that at his Fresh level. He almost broke my lamp on multiple occasions." Still, it was hard to think of the possibility that the Digimon might not be around to do that kind of thing, if she had been a spirit user. Then what would she have? A voice in her head? "I guess it's not too bad these days. I just have to make sure he's actually under the blankets before I go to sleep." Ah, yes. The little fox did like warm spots! Blankets were perfect for this!

Alicia quirked an eye brow at a mention of Maia's neighbor. She hadn't seen many tamers admittedly, but from the few she did know that sounded a lot like Kai and his partners, Kuro and Shiro. But there's no way that many coincidences could happen in one day, right? If only she knew. She only threw a bit of rolled eyes at the Kudamon's statement. Given his earlier behavior it was pretty much expected that he'd do something like that.
And then Maia mentioned what he did at Fresh level. The Spirit User snorted a bit before doubling over in laughter. "Ahahaha...! W-What? He seriously did that? Oh goodness that must have been a real mess to clean up every time...!" And then Alicia's thought process degenerated into more laughter at the thought of whatever Kuu's Fresh form was zipping through the air in wild an unpredictable ways. Being the one who didn't have to pick up after such a stunt made it infinitely more funny then it really had any right to be.
"Okay, I admit that's a funny mental image." Sol suddenly quipped after his long period of silence.
"I thought you were asleep?" Alicia whispered to the spirit once she'd managed to catch her breath.
"Kid, there's no way anyone could've slept through that. You weren't exactly watching how loudly you were laughing after all."
Alicia giggled a bit more, muttering a quick "sorry", before straightening up again and focusing on Maia. "Phew... it certainly seems like he goes out of his way to be a real pain in the rear, huh? I admit part of me's glad I didn't have to deal with that insanity."

Well, at least someone found the entire thing funny! Kuu thought it was, too, proudly announcing, "I was a dust-bunny-balloon!" More like a pain in the butt, but oh well. That descriptor worked, too. Nobody could blame the spirit user for finding the entire thing hilarious. It was like living in a sitcom or something when Kuu was feeling particularly rambunctious. Sometimes, even when he wasn't feeling that way. "That was the best," the monster sighed, thinking about how great it was to be able to flail around so recklessly. Not that it stopped him now.
"Remember when you got caught on a ceiling fan and couldn't figure out how to get down?" Maia felt the need to add, causing Kuu's ears to droop.
"I didn't know it would keep me! It was so mean!"
The tamer snickered, finding this one of the better memories of the Digimon being out of control. Feeling the need to clarify, she looked to Alicia, "The fan wasn't even turned on. It only moved when he hit it and then he wouldn't let go." Remembering, it had taken her about five minutes to actually compose herself enough to help the monster down because he was too busy wailing while biting one of the blades on the fan. If only she had thought to video tape it!
Still, it was funny when reflecting. The teen couldn't deny that. "Oh, I'm almost positive that half of it's on purpose." When she went to look the Digimon in the eyes after this comment, he immediately looked away, glancing up at the trees and at the dirt on the ground, humming in a totally inconspicuous manner. With a small gesture at the Kudamon, Maia added, "point proven."
