"Everyone forgets everything if they lose their food," the Digimon stated, matter-of-fact. Kuu wasn't going to try to make any situation better, but he was certainly going to steal the sandwich. Or, whatever it was that Dad was going to make himself for dinner. Or tomorrow's lunch. Who knew! It was a mystery!
Climbing up Elliot, he went to perch on the boy's shoulder. "I have a question," the rookie started, sniffing the air unpleasantly again. "Can we leave the bathroom? I'm never gonna want food if I keep smelling this." That was a lie. He wanted food anyway. Just, not in this room. He certainly didn't want to try to eat anything in here.
It was a little hard to believe the boy, until he explained. "Oh," she started, focusing on the screen. Despite her lips parting, nothing came out, as she worked to keep up with the screen. "Glad you chose to dodge," she finally managed out. Maybe, that wouldn't have been such an issue if she hadn't let the group get separated. The entire ordeal may have been avoided if she had just stayed home, after all. Or been able to think more quickly. Then, Elliot and Isaac probably would have been able to stick together the whole time.
In it's final stage, the song appeared to plan to challenge the two more than before. "Next time," she mumbled, letting go of the railing, "I'll try to be more helpful." She had to find a way to not just be some useless target that everyone had to protect. There had to be something she could do, right?
Once she had released her hold on the bar, she began bouncing across the arrows, in an attempt to be fast enough to keep up. Somehow, it seemed to be working, feet rapidly hopping between notes. The score fluctuated still, but began to increase slightly. At least she wasn't just stomping randomly. She wouldn't deny, though, that it seemed that she was still going to be slightly short of Isaac's score by the end. Maybe being a spirit user had its perks when it came to real life, too! Or, maybe Maia just needed to actually leave the house more often! This was a good start, though!

"Right! Sorry, got so caught up talking to you I forgot," Elliot apologized, sheepishly. "There's a ton we can too here, so what do you want to do?" He walked as he talked, opening the door to finally let him and Kuu out of this horrible, smelly place. Frankly, he was amazed he managed to handle it in there for so long. Meeting fresh air again and realizing what non-awfulness smelled like reminded him what a terrible idea he had.
Isaac was doing surprisingly decent at first, but hearing Maia's last comment threw him off a bit. He found his footsteps slowing down a little, his focus on the screen and focus on Maia's worries now grappling for dominance. He tried to push through and keep up the success, but a few critical Miss!es at the end led to his score dipping just barely below Maia's. It was a hard fought war, but in the end it was hers to win. Isaac wiped his brow as he hopped off the platform, checking out the scores as their impromptu audience looked on. Some scoffed at the comparatively low scores. Some applauded the two for putting up one heck of a fight on such a hard difficulty. One accused Isaac of throwing the game for Maia, although his jeer was swallowed up in the general noise of the arcade. Then, as quickly as they assembled, the onlookers went their separate ways. Such was the life of an arcade audience member, bouncing from cabinet to cabinet whenever something interesting happened.
The air was still stifling, so Isaac wasn't sure how long he'd keep sweating for, but he was damn proud of his performance. "Ha! We nailed it our first try," he boasted. However, his grin once more reduced as the worries came back to the forefront of his mind. "What do you mean more helpful?" he asked, voice a little slow and pensive. "You helped keep my brother safe, didn't you? And well, just you being there helped. I was scared as heck heading to the Dark Area, and knowing I'd be with someone as reliable as you really helped keep my head cool.
But come on. That's the past, and this is our victory party. And so far it's been a damn good one! What kind of games do you want to check out now?" He just hoped his little admission would help reassure Maia. It always left him feeling pretty down knowing seeing when she wasn't doing well, and half the point of today was to make sure she'd be able to take her mind off of it all. It was all his stupid fault for bringing ProtoAndromon up, anyway. He knew he should've just shrugged and said "I'm pretty fast" or something instead.

Once out of the bathroom, the first thing the little Digimon did was gasp, deeply inhaling the smell of anything-but-toilet. "Air!" he breathed, happily. Now that he was actually able to smell again, the little Digimon felt completely back to normal! There were so many lights and fun looking screens! And a bunch of weird smells, but that wasn't anything like the bathroom. He could handle that! But, as to what they were going to do? "I dunno! I don't even know what this place is!" It would make sense that a Digimon had never heard of an arcade before, right?
At first, Maia hadn't realized what she said had any affect on Isaac. As the song came to an end, she got a final chance to look at the score, needing a double-take. "Wait, what?" How did the boy suddenly lose? She thought for sure he wouldn't have! Making her way off the platform, she stood next to Isaac, catching her breath for a moment. "I swear, you lost on purpose," she pointed out, still sounding cheerful about beating the game, all the same. Maybe he did, but it sounded like there was a serious concern from what she had said. The teen hadn't meant to strike a nerve from it. She probably should have realized that he wouldn't have appreciated the comment.
"Yeah," the girl didn't sound convinced. "Don't worry about it," she tried to shrug the situation off. "Like you said, it's our victory party; let's have fun!" So far, it seemed like they were! Looking around, she hummed. What looked the most fun now? There were a lot of options, but a lot were currently occupied. The ones that weren't, she had a tendency of not being particularly familiar with. There were a few hunting games, but after having a fox Digimon as a pet, she had a hard time imagining the potential shooting at one, virtual or not. Sure, Kuu was a pain, but not that much of one.
Well, there were open spots at the fighting games. That would probably be a good way to come down from jumping around on a platform, too. After all, it didn't involve nearly as much moving, and they likely wouldn't draw a crowd with this one! Then again, people were weird, so that was kind of hard to tell. Plus, it was an alright one. She'd played it before. But, it also felt kind of like cheating, considering she knew the games better than Isaac likely would. "Well, I know you can fight in real life," Maia started, as she began moving toward her new target, waiting to make sure that the boy was going to follow her. "How about in games? Think you can beat me?"

"You ever see Maia playing video games?" Elliot asked. "It's kinda like that, but they're all on different TVs. Some of them are with other people, but usually it's just you against the machine. And there's so many games, too! They all just cost a coin." Elliot was starting to feel a lot more comfortable answering questions and pointing things out. Guiding Kuu around was really helpful for bumping his social skills up a notch. "Ooh, there's two good ones over there! Do you want to race cars, or shoot zombies?" he said, pointing the two machines out. He'd probably hide Kuu under his jacket or something so other people wouldn't see just who player two was. If they didn't directly see the ferret, they probably wouldn't ask any questions.
"Me? Give up? Never. I was just a bit distracted, that's all," he assured Maia. He didn't want to tell her that her comment had burrowed its way in his mind and would now likely leave him worried through the course of the entire day, even if that was what was starting to happen. It didn't help that no two words in the English language caused more worries than "don't worry." He could tell she wasn't convinced by his attempt at reassuring her, either. More than anything, he wished he could let her know that she was the first person he ringed up when they were going on their spirit quest. Or that she was one of the only three people that he actually trusted to back him up. Heck, maybe even that she's been helping brighten up what has otherwise been the most hectic vacation of his life. He just couldn't find the words, though. Even if he could, she was right. This was for fun. He tried to swallow his concerns long enough, and maybe pick a better time to let Maia know his thoughts.
Then they came across the fighting game cabinets. It wasn't Mortal Kombat, but Isaac at least somewhat recognized this one. Could he beat Maia? Honestly, he doubted it. But he was going to give it a solid try. "No clue, but that didn't stop me from almost kicking your butt at DDR," he teased. "Don't see how this'll be any different." He popped the tokens in and made his way to the character selection screen. Immediately he picked the only character worth actually using; the random button. Generally it was a mark of either confidence or having no clue what you were doing. For Isaac, it was both.
Naturally, when the game started up, he would be greeted with the pink-gi'd, smug-grinning Dan Hibiki. "This guy any good?" he asked, curious.

Sure, Kuu had watched Maia play games! That was essentially all she ever did at home! Looking around at all the screens, he spotted the ones that Elliot was suggesting. Cars or zombies? "What are zombies? Can I eat them?" Regardless of the answer, the excited fox seemed to be most interested in that one! At least, at first! he needed to check out everything! This place had so many things!
Maia tried not to think too heavily on Isaac's response. Instead, she decided to tease a little, "what, did you see a pretty girl in the crowd, or something?" This was better than dwelling on the potential reasons for him being distracted. After all, after a day like yesterday, everyone had reason to be distracted! Maia was going to stress about that for a long time! The Digital World really needed a therapist for kids that got dragged into this stupid stuff. After all, if she was handling everything poorly, how would someone Elliot's age take all of this? Actually... she had to wonder how he was doing on the subject, too.
"Hey, a lose is a lose, no excuses," the blonde quipped, with a smile. While she looked over her options, Isaac hit the random button. Not wanting to make the boy wait, she followed suit. Hey, it might make for a challenge, right? Unfortunately, the challenge wasn't exactly what she was expecting. On one side was a female fighter, with braided hair and red gloves, Cammy. On the other...
Maia bit her tongue, nodding for a second. "You're kidding," she mumbled, not entirely sure if she wanted to laugh about the choice. "I should have picked him," she answered, without properly answering. How was she supposed to tell Isaac that he got a joke for a character? She could have offered to switch characters with him, but he was the one that picked the random character! "I-I don't know. Maybe you'll be good with him?" That sounded hopeful, right?
Of course, with the fight starting, the girl simply made her character back away, giving him a second to figure out the controls. Or, maybe several seconds. How fast would he pick up on the buttons? Especially on that character?

"They're like the living dead. So I don't think they'd taste any good," Elliot explained. Seemed like almost everything was some sort of food in Kuu's mind. He could be so silly sometimes. Of course, as Elliot got a little closer to the cabinet, he found himself having a few doubts. Kuu was really hard to pin down as far as age was concerned. Was he going to be ready for all of this? He slowed the speed of his walk a bit as he spoke. "This game can get a little scary, though. If you ever want to stop playing just let me know, okay?" It wasn't really scary so much as a bit bloody, and the dialogue was often way too stupid to let the game startle, but Elliot didn't want to risk upsetting Kuu or giving him nightmares. Friend happiness always came first.
Isaac found himself pondering Maia's quip. "Why would I be paying attention to the ones in the audience?" he asked, almost unconsciously. Uppn realizing his slip of the tongue he tried to act natural, waiting for the other half of that sentence's implications to kick in. It was a compliment so stealthy he hadn't even realized it, and he was the one who said it! Still, he had to admit, Maia was looking pretty darn cute today. Maybe she always was and he was just way too stressed out from the Digital World to notice. Maybe it was because she was stylish as heck on the DDR machine. Maybe it was just something she did different with her hair. Regardless, he hoped the comment would slip past unnoticed. Even with their kind of flirty banter he hoped it wouldn't be a bridge too far.
"Picked your favorite, huh?" he asked, upon hearing Maia's comment. How was he supposed to know he was playing as the walking set of training wheels? Still, with how much she was backing up it seemed like she had a plan. Walking up to her would be playing right into her hands. He had better put in some defensive pressure of his own. Naturally the first thing he found was the jump on the right stick, which he proceeded to make liberal use of. Jump forward while hitting the quick punch button, jump back while hitting the quick button. That was the ticket! He'd form an impenetrable wall of punches to the head if she ever tried to advance. Isaac's plan was great, except that near everyone had some sort of shoryuken or flash kick. Hopefully Maia was as good of a Street Teacher as she was a Street Fighter, because this boy had a lot to learn.

"The dead can be living?" Well, that explained the angry doll from yesterday! After all, once it was cut in half, it was still moving. Wasn't that pretty dead? But, alive? Oh, he needed a box. "Are they cats?" Well, without any part of his thought pattern, Elliot was likely to be completely lost on where that thought came from. Then again, Kuu was probably lost all the time! So, it didn't matter.
The Rookie tilted his head, noticing the slowing of pace. "Nothing scares me!" Except occasionally thunder storms. Or dogs barking at him. Or... Okay, maybe those weren't really scary beyond the initial sound. Except the dogs. Sometimes those wanted to try to eat him! He was the one that was supposed to do the eating! "I can handle the zombies! If you get scared, we can stop," he added. Maybe Elliot was actually the one spooked by them!
At first, the comment sailed right over Maia's head. Of course he'd have been paying more attention to the screen than the people! Otherwise, he would have failed the game horribly! But, the wording began to sink in, as she grew quiet for a moment, glancing around. After another couple seconds, amber eyes set themselves on Isaac, seeming more confused than anything. Maybe there was some embarrassment? She had to be overthinking this! "Wait, what?" Still, the girl was smiling, so it couldn't be too bad. Yeah, she probably had just misheard him or something!
Looking to the game, she hummed softly. He really wasn't good with games, was he? "I'll let you get in a few hits before I do anything, if you want," she suggested, in some attempt to get the boy used to the game. How could Maia honestly try to beat him if he had no idea what he was doing, after all? That wouldn't be a fair fight! Then again, would Isaac really take her offer? Who knew! But, it was probably for the best, considering she was going to try not to make this game awful for him! Losing too fast would just leave a bad taste in anyone's mouth! The teen didn't want him to never play a game with her again! Especially since they were in an arcade, with essentially only games as an option. Unless they left, but Elliot hadn't caught back up with them yet, so that wasn't even on the table.

"Me? Scared?" Elliot asked. "Come on, Kuu, I'm not scared of any-" Elliot's voice started to trail off as he remembered Porcupamon. And the Troopmon. And Tankmon. And Kouhei, when scared. And being alone. And clowns. "Okay. So I'm scared of a lot of things. But these are just moving pictures of dead people. They can't touch us!" With that, Elliot popped some coins into the machines and listened as it whirred to life. That would keep the duo of dunderheads out of Maia and Isaac's way for a good while, at least.
Not that Isaac and Maia needed the help. They were doing a perfect job at distracting themselves, with Isaac's incompetent Street Fighter "skills." "Aw, come on. That wouldn't be fair to you," he said, not even realizing the ironic depths of unfairness that the random button had cooked up for the two of them. "I'm a quick learner. You can trust me." He stopped having Dan Hibiki jump around like a hyperactive flea and started trying out some other buttons, finding his way around the six-button layout through vicious attacks on the empty air. Fast, regular, strong. Punches, kicks. Stick moves. He was pretty sure he could handle it, even if he wasn't sure how to do any of the fancier inputs.
He walked back and forth a bit, trying to bait out an attack from Maia's character, before having Dan dash in with a few of the quick punches. It was a better strategy than the trainwreck he had been showing off earlier, but it kinda had to be. It certainly matched more closely to his hit and run style in the Digital World, even if the limitations of buttons meant it wasn't a perfect translation of his fighting plan. If it worked in real life, surely it had to work in the game. Besides, judging by Maia's offer he was doing something horribly wrong with his previous strategy, and there's no way she would have fun playing with him if he kept demonstrating such suckiness. Maybe this new plan of attack was closer to what she had in mind.
As these thoughts went through his head, he realized he was now officially worrying about disappointing a cute girl by being awful at video games. Definitely not what he expected from going to Japan!

"Moving pictures are great!" After all, that was like television! He got to watch lots of television! That was the best. But, wait, this was a game. Right. Time to kill zombies! Or... something like that!
Maia bit her lip, looking over to see what Isaac's hands were doing. Oh no. That was all wrong. Nope, he should.. Oh, never mind! The girl looked back to the screen, occasionally tapping her fingers to the side of the buttons, rather than actually touching them. Her character moved awkwardly because of this, failing to block or evade most of the punches strategy. This was a very newbie tactic, but the blonde didn't say anything.
Sure, Isaac may have had an advantage with DDR due to his abilities in real life, but this was nothing like that! It didn't help any that he picked the worst character possible! How was she supposed to seriously fight him like this? Though, there was a small giggle from the teen. "You know, this is the best chance I'll ever get to beat you in a fight." Not that she'd ever actually want to fight Isaac! But, somehow, this was kind of funny to her. She wasn't even sure how it was. Maybe it had to do with just having a day to relax.
Still, Maia seemed to be losing this round, only throwing a few simple hits. Maybe she was rusty at the game! Looking at the two characters, she glanced away from the screen for a second, "It's been a while since I've played," she mumbled, as if feeling the need to explain why she seemed to be doing so horribly at this game. The blonde didn't want Isaac to think she was losing on purpose, after all! But, with the occasional twitch in her wrists, maybe she was holding back a little bit. Hopefully, that would go unnoticed, considering she was trying her hardest to not be obvious.

"I dunno. Elliot says I'm too short to ever beat anyone in a fight," Isaac said, only half-joking. He remembered it as clear as day. It was when Elliot hit that 5'1 growth spurt, and for a few days starting insistently referring to himself as the big brother. It was quite the annoying few days, but Isaac didn't entirely mind. It made Elliot happy to joke about it, even if he ran the joke into the ground way too quickly. " 'Sides, why would I ever want to fight you? I'd feel pretty bad about picking a fight with my best friend here." He didn't really mind admitting that. Frankly, hanging out with Maia was quickly becoming the highlight of his vacation days.
However, he couldn't help but notice that something was up. Maia's playing seemed to be halfhearted at best, and she kept mumbling stuff to herself. She did when they were going to the cabinet, when they were at the DDR table, when they were talking about if she was any use in the Dark Area. He started to wonder if Maia was feeling alright today, and found himself wishing that there was anything he could do to help her. "You sure? And here I thought you said you'd kick my butt easily," Isaac said. His rookie mistakes weren't being punished in the slightest, and even if it was by time out he somehow managed to pull off the win for the first round.
"Look, really, you don't need to hold back any," he promised. "I always have a blast hanging out with you. Why do you think I'm even at this arcade in the first place? Trust me, you kicking my butt wouldn't change a thing." The announcer declared Round 2, and with it Isaac waited to see what Maia would do next.

Initially, there was total silence after the comment about Isaac's height. Trying to continue to face the screen, eyes still shifted to look at him. Ah, he was kind of short for his age, huh? Well... whatever age he was! Elliot was younger than him, though! That was obvious! Lips twitched slightly, as she stifled her laughter. Okay, she could do this! Don't laugh! Oh.. Oh, nope. She couldn't do this. Hands left the buttons to try to cover her mouth, still trying to manage to contain the laughter to some extent. "I-I'm sorry! That's just," there was a snicker, as she tried to compose herself. "That's so mean! But..." But, it was kind of true?
Then, there was the best friend bit. Eyes shifted back to the screen, a smile never leaving her face, despite finally settling down from the laughter. "I don't know. For fun? You've got that whole Spirit User thing on me, though," she pointed out. Honestly, she couldn't imagine actually being mad enough to have a real fight with the teen! But, best friend here, huh? Surely, they'd met a lot of people. Like Alicia! She was pretty awesome! Though, that reminded her of part of the conversation that she'd had with the redhead. Something about leaps of faith and whatnot. Now, she slowed down because she lost focus. If they were best friends, then...
...Nope! She could already feel her face heating up from embarrassment! Ah, why did Alicia have to put thoughts into her head? That was just crazy! "You're mine, too," she admitted suddenly, despite having seemed completely out of it for a few seconds. Shifting, she tried to cause her hair to cover her face from the boy in a nonchalant manner. Was she blushing? She'd better not be! But, it was pretty true. Even though she'd moved here over half a year ago, she hadn't become particularly close to anyone. Sure, she had friends and acquaintances, but they weren't anything particularly special.
The round ended, and the girl took a deep breath. She'd lost that one. Oh, how horrible. Except, it wasn't. Figuring the blush had faded, the teen brushed her hair out of her face, letting out a huff. "I don't really do competitive, to be honest," she smiled. Oh, no she didn't. It wasn't really because she sucked at it, though. She'd let him think that! "But, it's fun once in a while." Fighting games were pretty up there in competitive play, after all, weren't they?
Wait. "Aren't you here because Elliot wanted to see the arcade, or something?" After all, Maia would have shown up no matter where they went, if invited! It could have been to stare at the disgusting river, but she'd have still gone.
As round two was starting, she backed up her character again. Instead of staying at her spot, Maia shifted a little closer to Isaac, looking at the buttons. "Here," she murmured, slipping one of her arms under his, to reach the controls. "You can do other attacks if you just," there was a pause, as she placed her other hand on top of the joystick that may or may not have Isaac's hand already on it. With a few gestures, which she made sure to explain briefly, before executing what she thought would be a fairly simple combo. Okay, depending on how well Isaac could pick up on it, he may not see it as easy as she thought it was. "You just have to play with the moves." She suggested, before quickly shifting back to her own controls.
Moving her own character forward, she waited to see if the boy was going to continue with his previous method of attacks. "Hey, don't worry about me holding back. I mean, I'm still pretty sure you lost on purpose with the dancing," she added, trying to use a light tone. Oh, she was still going to downplay her skill with the game! It wouldn't be fun to just destroy him! After all, she made no promises to actually cease holding back.
But, her mind went back to the realization that she hadn't actually learned Isaac's age, after his height comment shortly before. "Uh, so," this felt like a weird question to ask while they were playing arcade games. "How old are you, anyway?"

Isaac wanted to be more annoyed at Maia for her sudden burst of laughter about Elliot's comment. He hated feeling too small or too young, and that was basically the entire crux of the joke. Nevertheless, he just couldn't bring himself to be bothered by it. Maybe it was because he brought the joke up in the first place. Maybe it was because he trusted Maia a bunch. Maybe it was because she had a really pretty laugh and he didn't want to even risk interrupting it. Damnit, what was today doing to his brain? Heck, he almost found himself laughing along with her! "Wouldn't expect that from a fluffball like my bro, huh? He's all smiles and hugs, then goes right for the jugular when you least expect it," he warned, half-jokingly.
Of course, while the laughing didn't catch Isaac too off guard, what Maia had to say next certainly did. The boy found his face growing hot, far too busy focusing on keeping down the blush spreading across his own face to notice Maia's. How could he already be her best friend? He had only been in Japan for a few days, and Maia had been there for a long while. Surely there were tons of people lining up to be friends with someone so cool, and he just couldn't imagine himself at the head of that line. "You gotta be kidding. I bet you've got lots of awesome friends around here. You're you," he said, trying to convince himself almost as much as he was trying to convince Maia. Heck, the fact that he was in one of the loudest, hottest places in Japan just to spend time with her before leaving was indication enough.
"I mean, yeah, Elliot wanted to see one of these before he left. Really, I just wanted to make sure I'd be able to hang out with you one last time, doing something you really liked," he admitted. If Elliot wanted to go to the arcade, Isaac would've tossed him a fistful of yen and stood by the relative fresh air of the air hockey table. But seeing Maia in her element and having a blast? That was priceless.
Almost as priceless to Isaac's reaction to Maia's hands-on tutorial. At first the boy was just confused as Maia slipped an arm around his, but figured she was just trying to reach for something around the cramped cabinet. Then she put her hand atop his on the joystick and he promptly turned almost neon red. She began showing off combos and different moves, but Isaac was too busy paying attention to the fact that they were in way too close contact to actually notice what Dan was doing. "Thank you," he said as she demonstrated, voice so small that it seemed like he'd explode if he talked too loudly. It was a pretty intense combo, but he might have only said that because he was too distracted to actually notice its intricacies. Still, he'd do his best to try and replicate it. He'd just have to pretend Maia's hand was there again. Wait, that didn't help at all!
"O-oh, fifteen. How about you?" Isaac said, snapping back into reality. He was a little embarrassed bringing it up. He knew Maia was a bit older than him. It was why he refused to entertain his thought about her cute laugh and smile. But how much older?

Sure, people wanted to be her friend. But, it wasn't always for the right reason. Being a girl from America, it either drew a lot of attention or it made people automatically dislike her. Though, with the addition of Digimon into everything, she had been meeting people that were easier to trust, for some reason. Then again, Isaac fell into that category. "When you can't invite people over because of the talking fox in your house, it makes it a little harder to have good friends," she pointed out. It did narrow the options for anyone to be her best friend, didn't it? "It's not like I don't have them." After all, a group of girls in her class had essentially forced her to join them on multiple occasions, and talked to her. They were her friends, too. But, it wasn't the same. "How do I tell them that I can't hang out because I'm busy trying not to get killed by real-life monsters? That's just asking for a padded room." She couldn't tell them anything! Who could even consider her a best friend, anyway, if she had so many secrets? With Isaac, there was nothing to hide. For only knowing him for a short while, she'd easily admit that she trusted him more than her other options. "Plus, you're pretty awesome." At least that last part would hopefully bump up the mood. "How could you not be my best friend here?"
Oh, yes. They were leaving to go back to California soon, weren't they? That was going to make for a bit of adjustment. But, they'd still have texting! Right? That was going to suck. Kuu was going to miss Elliot, too! On top of that, the rookie didn't have fingers or a phone to text with, so he'd have a harder time keeping in touch. "I would have gone with you to something you would have preferred, too, though," she murmured. So much for that blush going away, though!
The way that Isaac spoke when he thanked her threw her off a little. It didn't seem like him! Hopefully, she hadn't overstepped any bounds! There was no denying that Maia could have just as easily told him what to do without touching anything. But, where was the fun in that? Wait, did she do that on purpose? Ack! The teen didn't even know what she was thinking! Why was this becoming such a thing? Sure, people were teasing her about maybe having a thing for the boy, but was she actually feeding into that? Did she actually like him? Oh, she had to stop thinking about it. This was ridiculous. The blonde was just being silly at this point. Best friend. Right.
Wait, was she going to end up losing the round again? Ah, Isaac was going to think this one was on purpose! Sure, she wasn't planning on trying all that hard, but she didn't want to come off as intending to lose this time! She needed to stop being distracted by all of this!
Fifteen? That... that wasn't too bad. Depending on his birthday, it might actually only be a year and a half or something, right? Good way to look at it. Two years difference? Would that make for a big deal? "Seventeen." The age gap didn't really bother Maia, but would it cause him any problem? Oh, now she was starting to feel old. She wasn't even an adult yet! The teen couldn't think she was old already!

At least Maia confirmed it was more of a secret-keeping thing than a loneliness thing. He was a bit worried there that such a cool person was going underappreciated. She raised a distressingly good point, though. Even as a spirit user who could hide it better, Isaac would still have to constantly run off and sneak away to handle Digital World business. Would he ever be able to go to late night parties? What would happen when he was tossed back into the school system? If he had a girlfriend, would she become a target for Digimon that had built vendettas with him? There was no more normal for them anymore, and at this point they were left confiding in other people like themselves. "Guess this is how things are gonna be for us for a while, huh?" he asked, the tone in his voice indescribable. Was it worry? Heartache? Acceptance? Not even Isaac could tell. "But that's all the more reason for me to be lucky to have you backing me up." His voice was still a little small from the hands-on tutorial, but it was starting to return to normal.
"No, really, don't worry about it. I'm having a blast here!" Isaac said cheerfully. It's true, he was. Sure, Maia had only shown him one combo, but from there it wasn't too hard to take that implication and move it into a few more. It was very trial and error, and most of the successes were maybe two hits long at the most, but he was getting into the groove. "I'm at a cool place with a great friend learning something new. What could be better?" Maybe her actually picking up the darn controller would be better. Maia's distraction was letting Dan Hibiki start chipping away at health little by little! She'd have to start stepping it up soon if she wanted to preserve her honor as the toughest gamer of the group. Thankfully, Dan's punches had the strength of wet noodles, and there was still more than enough time to run a comeback.
Seventeen, huh? Not the biggest number Isaac was fearing. If it was nineteen or something he would've probably just politely excused himself before he ended up with an unreachable crush. Not that Maia was even close to reachable, of course. Or that he even had a crush on her. Nope, just best friends being best friends here at the arcade. Still, he couldn't help but feel a little down about how young he was. Maybe growing a beard eventually would help. Nobody looked young with a beard! For now, though, he tried to push away the worry and return to the world's slowest game of Street Fighter.
Apparently, someone else took notice of it took. The distinct feeling of being watched sent a shiver down Isaac's spine, and as he turned he noticed a gangster-looking wannabe reclining on a Pole Position cabinet. He seemed to be smirking like he heard the funniest joke in the world, and Isaac couldn't help but feel like he looked familiar.

"Yeah," the girl agreed, thinking of all the things she couldn't do with a Digimon around. Friends were hard enough. At least her dad knew about Kuu, but her mom wasn't allowed to find out. And, what about when her aunt had that baby? Was the Kudamon child-friendly? The thought of having a hard time with significant others hadn't even crossed her mind! Then again, maybe that had to do with the fact that her only male friends in Japan were involved with Digimon anyway. Not that they were romantic interests, of course, but it made her not even consider the issue.
Still, it was good to hear that Isaac was having fun! That made her feel less bad about dragging him around the arcade! "I don't know, winning the lottery?" Well, that would be better, huh? Imagine all the games that they could play on that kind of money. Or, uh, actually using it for something important. Oh, the mind of a teenager without bills to pay! Then again, what better way to spend money won than with friends?
It was both lucky and unlucky that Dan was such a dumb character. Maia really should have chosen him instead. Then, she wouldn't even have to fully pretend to be inept at the game! Instead, with Cammy, she was just trying to only land a few hits and nothing too over-the-top as far as combos went. Sure, she could win, but where was the fun in that? It was better to see someone win, than to watch Isaac lose!
With the lack of comment on age, Maia tried not to overthink. At least he didn't make any comment on how old she was. That was a good sign, right? Or, it was an awful sign. If she'd known he was wishing for a beard instead, she'd have quickly pointed out that it probably wouldn't suit him. Also, yuck, beard. Whatever. She was too busy wondering if she was so old that it would be embarrassing for a fifteen year old to be seen with her!
Seeing Isaac move to look at someone, the tamer did the same. Well, that person looked pretty discomforting! Though, she'd admit that it wasn't necessarily unexpected to see that type of character at the arcade. What was he smirking for? Was there something funny going on? Or, was this guy just a creep? It was unnerving, regardless! "Is... everything alright?"
