It had gone utterly terrible. Panzer had attempted to protect people she felt indebted to for their assistance and suffered greatly for it brought to the point of near death. Slouched against a ruined half wall Panzer looked sideways to her unconscious and badly beaten partner, who oddly had not reverted to their Rookie level, before turning her gaze upwards. Hovering above her casting a shadow upon the ruined building, Panzer and her partner was an Owryumon energy charging in its blades. "Screw....you...." One last act of defiance was all Panzer could utter before the serpentine Digimon unleashed its attack. As her life flashed before her eyes Panzer was at least glad she managed to pay back her debt; sure she normally detested assisting those too weak to fight for themselves but the Digimon of this village had provided her and her partner a lot of assistance in their search; simply put she was glad to die here as her life had bought time for the villagers to flee.
How had this all started? That was the question which burned away at Panzer gnawing at her insides but it was rather easy to answer. She had been, alongside her partner, preparing to travel to the castle that served as the one responsible for the attacks upon Panzer but then came the news. An enormous army of Digimon was marching towards the small village banners raised in a deceleration of war...no not war. Massacre. The village was home to many Digimon yes easily enough to field a decent sized army but alas they were all Champion level or lower as opposed to the invading army being Mega and up; not exactly the fairest chance no? One part of Panzer wanted to simply abandon this village to its fate taking advantage of the fact her enemy had deployed an army to slip past the castle's defence, defeat her enemy and then go home. Of course something changed her mind and that was the debt she owed this village. It felt...wrong somehow to simply abandon the village to destruction but only due to the debt she owed them; heartless she may be but she was not one for abandoning responsibilities.
Everything had been well prepared. Walls were shored up, weapons were prepared, escape routes were arranged, evacuation plans had been made and of course the Digimon willing to fight had been organised. Sadly it had not been enough. Hours of fighting, of repelling attack after attack, barely managing to hold on had taken their toll on the villager's defenders. Digimon had either been slain or dragged away in chains ultimately leaving Panzer and Black Wargreymon X holding the line alone. They had managed to collapse the entrance to the hastily dug escape tunnel hoping it would buy the evacuees enough time to escape before barricading themselves inside the hall that house the escape tunnel's entrance. As tough as the attacking army of Digimon were the barricaded building brought some time for Panzer to provide some medical attention to her partner. "You know...you can fly...you'd find getting away easy partner." As much as Panzer detested cowards...she detested lives being thrown away even more hence her suggestion; there was no reason for her beloved partner to die her needlessly it was Rexanna these Digimon sought to control after all.
Black Wargreymon X turned her damaged helmet wearing head towards Panzer seriously considering it before shaking her head. "No. We are comrades upon the field of battle and as such it would be a disservice if we died apart." God damn it...stupid Digimon! "Idiot....tch you could leave to fight another day..." Panzer scowled angry at her partner's idiocy for refusing to flee but ugh god damn it she was growing soft! "Christ you could be half a world away from here..." Finishing wrapping enough the last of her partner's wound Panzer smiled and for the first time in her entire life she was truly at peace finally able to simply let go of what bothered her. "Ugh I hate you! You've made me soft..." She hugged her partner before kissing them on the cheek. It was utterly out of character for Panzer but she had never kissed anybody out of her family before and considering she was going to die soon? It made sense for her to throw all sense to the heavens and decide too simply sod it.
As the sounds of large bodies slamming against the sturdy door grew in volume joined by the sound of splinter Panzer rose to her feet, picked up the discarded weapon that lie beside her (which was an exact replication of her old training sword forged from Chrome Digizoid) before being joined by her heavily injured partner. The both of them turned to face the door as it shattered open blown apart by the hoards that stood beyond. No attack came through no great barrage of lasers, fireballs or spears instead floated a single dragon Digimon not the ultimate enemy Panzer had sought but their chief general. "Ahahaha...a human and her crippled partner is all that's left? Fine....I'll give you a warrior's death!" Before the floating Owryumon was able to move Panzer charged forward alongside her partner. Black Wargreymon X made the first move lashing out with her gauntlets only to be slammed aside; the injuries Rexanna had sustained slowed her movements making her sloppy and predictable an easy target for Owryumon. Luckily Panzer was not one to sit idle! She thrust with her sword but met the same fate as her attacks were easily evaded before getting slammed into the wall sword flying through the air.
Dazed by the impact of her head against a wooden pillar Panzer struggled to rise to her feet propping herself up with her sword just in time to see Owryumon unleash a final attack on her partner. NO!" Feeling forced to do something she ran across the hall, grabbing half of her partner's discarded brave shield throwing herself in front of the attack. Luckily the shield was still strong and absorbed the impact of Owryumon's Eiseiryūoujin but not without a price. The damaged half of the brave shield survived the impact but Panzer's arms were another story. The impact reverberated through her body breaking the bones in her arms sending her flying back landing next to her partner. With numerous ruptured blood vessels, two broken arms and all of strength gone Panzer could do little but sit there and wait for the end. She looked up at the encroaching form of the victor a smile across her face despite the fact she was going to die soon. "]I was going to show you mercy...but you're far too dangerous. Without you your partner will be putty in our hands." Owryumon unleashed another barrage of blades aimed directly for Panzer's heart. She nodded at her partner mouthing the words good bye before everything went black...except it didn't.
She was brought back to awareness by a familiar sound: that of her Digivice producing the same noise it always produced whenever Rexanna Digivolved. That was not the only unexpected phenomenon that occurred as above, through the hole in the ceiling, the moon had come out from behind the clouds producing a bright, but focused, beam of light directly towards Panzer's Digivice. Whatever was happening Panzer had no clue but for Rexanna it was a welcome feeling of relief. The energy that was being sent into Panzer's Digivice had formed a protective dome blocking whatever attack Owryumon threw at it. Black Wargreymon rose to her feet the cracks in her armour and her wounds healing knitting together as she was revitalised, strength restored, wounds healed and weapons returned to her. Panzer, amazingly, felt the sensation of agony that tore through her arms recover as she forced herself to her feet yet again the very simple of defiance. "We’re not beaten yet!" That was when it happened: Black Wargreymon's very body turned to energy vanishing from sight.
Her partner's armour flew through the air attaching and reshaping to fit her frame piece by piece. Her human form began to change…but she was not really human at this moment was she? Her limbs elongated, her height swelled and her wounds were fully healed the strength she possessed both restored and amplified. Well aware of the Digivolution occurring before him Owryumon attempted to stop it unleashing a violent barrage of attacks only to be prevented by the light from the moon above. Every impact upon the moonlight born shield caused the time honoured crest of Reliability to flash across the surface for a few seconds. Soon the light barrier faded revealing someone new a tall imposing figure decked out in armour. A black beast of a horse, huge and imposing, rose out of the ground beneath the Digizoid wearing titan lifting up their bulk as if they weighed naught but a grain of sand. Panzer's discarded sword flew into her hand changing and twisting into a combination between spear and sword as lastly her Digivice embedded itself in the chest of the bio-merged Digimon releasing a final wave of energy signifying the completion. Panzer knew not what had occurred but she knew one thing and that was both herself and her partner had one last chance to ensure the safety they had pledged to secure.
Once the dust had settled the Digimon that fled from the village returned to mourn what they had lost, bury their dead and attempt to rebuild their lives but what they found surprised them. The Digimon that lead the final stages of the attack was dead impaled to the wall above the gates of the town a monument to failure. If that wasn’t strange enough the many Digimon that fought, and died, had been buried makeshift tombs emblazoned with their names standing in a ring around the village. It was almost as if the graves had been assembled in a protective ring around the village but oddly enough two graves were missing: those of Panzer and her partner. The only sign that anybody had left the village was a single set of tracks, deep set and sunk into the ground the tracks were heavy but laid out in a quadruped pattern indicating a four legged creature. The final hint as to the owner of these footprints was the fact they were that of a horse but one bigger than any horse known to man. Whoever owned the creature responsible for these foot prints faded into legend, despite how obvious it really was, having left behind a simple message etched into the walls of the village:

"In the memory of the deaths that have come to pass today....WE SHALL UPHOLD OUR PLEDGE!" Wind bellowed out from the ground around Schwarz Rittermon as the Crest of Reliability illuminated the space behind them burning as brightly as the Biomerge's spirit.
