"Christopher, you're running late. I told you to not stay up so late playing those video games!" A voice rang over the ambient sound of water splashing upon dinnerware. It swashed in and out as her hand broke the stream with a sponge attached. The aroma of eggs and bacon strolled throughout the house, a fresh pot of medium roast brewing and crackling slowly joining.
Waking up late, Mom in a good enough mood to make breakfast and not beat him out of bed, Dad quietly reading yesterday's paper splashing in some whiskey here and there. There was no other day it could have been than Monday, and to top it all off the sun was out. There was no rain, what could possibly go wrong with this day?
Thuds shook kitchen and living room floor as someone lackadaisically made their way down there stairs. It directed the attention of the man of the house who quickly folded his paper down to see what monstrosity could be making such a noise. A chipper smile drew upon his face, "Ah, someone got some beauty sleep, I see." His father chuckled as Chris slumped down the stairs, his hair astray and his shirt halfway tucked into his uniform.
"Yeah, yeah... Morning, Mom." He said mundanely flopping into a chair as the wooden legs screeched upon the tiled floor. His mother sweeping a plate of eggs and bacon in front of him setting a fork atop the eggs. Patting his head she leaned in, adjusting his hair from his forehead and planting a kiss.
She stood back up straight a spatula still in one hand, his head in her other. She shook his head a bit, "You know I don't like that." She addressed him screeching the chair on the floor. Chris shrugged it off and sat up straight pulling the chair closer into the table screeches resonating once more. "The neighbors must hate us." She murmured in resilience.
After finishing his food he tossed the plate into the sink and no quicker than he could even think of turning away. "Wash the plate off." Could be heard from the living room where the two adults watched the morning news.
Rolling his eyes Chris responded, "Aye." Flipping the sink on then off he bolted out of the door his mother beginning to rant as he threw himself down the stairs slinging his backpack around his arm and to his back. "I'm late, I'll do it when I get home!" He chuckled waving good bye as his mother pressed her lips together, there were surely some unkind words behind them.
On his way out to school he checked his phone ever so often, waiting for someone to text him. However, for one reason or another the screen kept throwing up some black screen with odd green text. Numbers scanned up, down, left and right of the screen. A look of confusion grew upon his visage, he slapped the side as if that would help. "What's going on with this thing?" Holding down the power button he attempted to shut down the device, nothing. "Come on... Dad's gonna kill me if this thing breaks!" He said to himself in frustration.
Slapping it a few more times he let out a sigh of disappointment. Shoving the phone back into his pocket he carried on his way to school.
As he stepped into the class he took in a deep breath pausing for a second, hoping that today would be better than last week or at least just maybe this one class. He was wrong. During his brief moment to himself he was pushed into the class as two other students chuckled and laughed at one another. They told each other good one and mocked Chris. Chris grunted and continued to his seat.
His eyes shifted around the room as the teacher lectured, he was talking about square roots or something. He wasn't entirely too sure. He was so tired. He reached for his phone and as he did so the phone began to chirp ring and vibrate all simultaneously. Everyone shifted, the legs of their chairs chattered against the tile. That thing his mother hated so much. She'd have a stroke if she had heard this one. His arms flailed as he ripped the phone from his pocket trying to make it stop he flipped and flopped it. The teacher began progressing in his direction. "It won't stop!" Chris shouted, the class laughed at his anguish. The teacher extended his hand not saying a word but just gesturing his fingers telling him to hand it over.
"Well...?" The teacher waited patiently. Chris didn't want to give it up, it was his only form of entertainment when he wasn't in class. "I you may retrieve at the end of the day." The teacher persuaded, trying not to be forceful but patient with the child. He knew of his struggles in and out of the classroom. Chris sighed extending the phone to the direction of the teacher, as the phone left his hand the noises and buzzing came to a halt.
"Fine..." And there it was the beginning to yet another terrible day. Huzzah.
------LATER THAT DAY
The school bells rang and everyone rushed out of the classes. Chris stayed in his seat, not trying to attract any attention or get trampled on the way out. He sat up in his chair and placed his head in his hands as his elbows rested upon the surface of the desk. "Man... Now I'm going to get lectured about this phone. What's next?" He brushed his hands through his orange locks clinching them in anger. "Why me?" He murmured with disdain.
"O'Kaleigh." The teacher said, incorrectly of course. Chris raised his head, looking at the teacher. "Did you take your phone from my desk during lunch and replace it with this?" He held an odd looking device. It was red and white, had a couple of buttons and an antenna. A screen that mimicked that of what his phone was doing earlier. His head snapped back and a look of disgust came upon his face.
"No! Why would I do that, sir?" He said with excitement, though the teacher didn't seem to buy it.
"Just sit right there until you've changed your mind. I'll be here, grading papers until you find the truth." The teacher replied.
"But--" Chris replied, but was interrupted.
"Ah-ah, until you find the truth..." He raised his finger and laid the device on the front of his desk.
----
Hours went by and soon the sun no longer peaked through the windows. "Well... I suppose you plan on staying the night then? Or did you truly never go into my desk?" He questioned, actually thinking the kid's words to be true.
"I promise I didn't, sir. Promise." He plead to the teacher. The teacher adjusted the papers in his hand bouncing them on the desk and sprucing them up with his hands.
He cleared his throat, "Very well, then. We shall figure out what happened to your phone tomorrow. Shall we? Until then, I will write a small letter to your worried parents telling them of your misfortune."
Chris knew he was in for it when he got home. It was already dark and he never checked in, but he didn't have his phone to tell anyone at home about it. He was done for. Chris got up from the chair taking the piece of paper from the hand of the instructor. A throat was cleared behind him, turning around the device hit him in the chest. "You probably have more use for a toy than I do. Take it as a memento, for all the time we spent together today... completely disengaged. I do appreciate your company, O'Kaleigh." He snickered as though he was a teenage bully himself. Chris tightened his grip on the device and made his way out of the school.

"Are you sure you dropped it near here?" a teenage looking blonde with golden eyes and a large red jacket asked another with similar clothing and hair color. "Of course, man why did you have to send me to pick her up?" he mumbed out looking near the grass around the school, he had no idea when he dropped it but apparently Shi's sister had a hole in her backpack and was now missing her homework, but for some reason didn't tell the twins till now. "Maybe it's somewhere near here, come on I don't like leaving the place like that." the calmer sounding one said, he had a right to be worried after all.
"What worried someone will try to steal the device again, for ya covered bro." the more loud and energetic sounding twin said reaching into his coat pocket producing a device in his hand throwing it up and catching it. "See no problem, so long as we keep it on hand nothing can happen." he reassured. "No, better leave it with the two twins who can't fight anything off right now." he corrected before going back to his search, bad enough they had to pick up Shi's work, now his sister's?
"Oh hey, I got it." the calmer one said with a smile as he picked up the slightly damp paper, still good. Yuudai walked over still throwing the digivice up and down in a pattern. "Great, good thing we found it, now let's get out of here." he said turning around to walk down the path. Yasuo put the paper back in his pocket, it would be alright crumpled right?
The calmer twin noticed someone in the school but ignored it, neither one knowing they held the same device Yuudai was carelessly tossing in the air.

Steps chattered upon the concrete as Chris walked in haste toward his house. His hand still clenched to the device that he had received from the teacher. He huffed and puffed in frustration, his arms and hands flailing as he talked aloud to himself, "What am I going to tell my parents? They're going to kill me if I show up with this stupid thing." He looked at it, his hand shaking from holding it so tight. His teeth began to grit as anger built up inside of him. "What is this thing even!?" He shouted.
As he began to shout the device began to light up and buzz once more. "Aw great, here we go again!" Shouting once more he threw his hands up in the air. Nothing was going to solve his problems, especially not this thing. He brought the device closer to his face to try to decipher what was happening on the screen. "What's with all the numbers? Stupid toy, it doesn't even work right. Just like my phone." He shook the device vigorously bringing it to his ear.
He began to calm down a bit and let out a sigh. "Maybe it's a GPS or something, let's see what this button does." He mashed the up arrow, then the down arrow. Nothing. "Ugh, well ok. I guess this one must pull up the menu." He pressed the red button. In doing so the device blared a bright light causing Chris to fall back on his rear as the device fell to the ground, the light vanishing as it did so.
"What the...? What was that?" His arm was elevated in defense. He scurried over to the device and ripped it from the ground. "Huh, it stopped whatever it was doing... now it's back to this screen again." The screen once again displayed the binary scrolling from every angle. He inched his finger near the red button once more, hesitating just before it. His index finger curled back up into his palm. Sighing he gave into temptation and extended his finger once more pressing the button. It lit up once more, his eyes winced as he tried to make out what was happening to the device. He couldn't see anything passed the light, however.
He grumbled, anger flustering him once more. "Stupid thing!" He clenched the device tight, turning and throwing it in the direction of the school. His eyes not even meeting the destination to which it was thrown. He stormed off his fists tight at his sides, slightly stomping like a child as he went back toward his house.
"...Stupid... phone... stupid school... Stupid teacher! Everything is stupid! I'm just caught in everyone else's stupidity!"

That wasn't his problem, nope he shouldn't care about other people's anger. Yasuo simply put his hands in his pocket and started to walk off, he wasn't about to deal with something at this time, it was then he noticed his brother had stopped following him, and he was looking at the person who just exited the building. "Yuudai, just let it go. You don't even know that person." Yasuo reminded, Yuudai simply shrugged. "Didn't know a lot of people before they became my friends, plus he seems mad."
And with that his brother was off cutting the guy off before he could leave. "Hey, are you alright?" Yuudai asked worried, he heard the person shouting and he knew that wasn't good. Audio the one hanging back simply sighed crossing his arms watching his brother go try and make friends with a random person, after all he had to be there if it went horribly wrong.

Grumbling to himself as he pouted about his day not going too well to himself, as nobody else seemed to care. Which typically seemed to be the case, sure some people would listen. Nobody really ever had anything to say that was actually beneficial or what he wanted to hear really. Which he was never going to get from anyone, he was just too stubborn to realize it. The world did revolve around him, after all.
Yet, it seemed he was wrong. He was soon brought to a halt by the body of another person. One that looked like he came right out of a cult meeting of some sort. He quit the pouting for the moment and let his hands regain some blood to the fingers once more as his palm and fingers were white. A look of confusion came about Christopher's face. He didn't even know anyone was around and here he was making a fool of himself.
He sighed once more throwing his hands in the air and plopped onto his bottom, bouncing slightly. The soles of his shoes met one another and his hands clamped them together. "I look like an idiot. I wish I would have known people were around here. I didn't hit you with that thing I threw did I?" He queried now more worried if he had harmed someone in his rampage. Which wasn't something he wanted to do in the least.

Yuudai simply let out a small laugh as he said he looked like a idiot. "Don't worry, I make a fool of myself all the time, compared to what I've done that's nothing." Yuudai assured, maybe that would make him feel better? "And you didn't hit me, even if you did I've got a thick skull." Yuudai said tapping on his head with his fist twice to prove his point. "Either way something up? Why'd you throw it?" Yuudai asked curious, normally you don't throw stuff you own right.
Audio deciding quickly this conversation wouldn't lead anywhere dangerous he slowly walked around and passed the two of them hands in his pockets going over to the area he threw the item. Quickly looking around he found the item quite fast since it was different from the grass and the darkness around it. "This thing?" Yasuo asked himself bending down picking it up, he paused at this action though turning it over in his hand to see the front, a digivice.
Despite not having Shi's to compare he would hope he knew what a digivice looked like by now. "So is he a tamer, or is he a new tamer?" he pondered to himself standing up, given the fact he through it Yasuo quickly figured he was a new tamer, it would only make sense after all. Yasuo then made his way near the two of them, waiting for a good time to bring it up to Yuudai.

This was odd, someone that seemed to be genuine for a change. Was he at the same school, or did this place just change to the complete opposite of what he thought it would be at night? Nonetheless, he thought it was rather refreshing to meet a friendly person. "Thanks, it's been a while since anyone has brought themselves to my level... It's good to know I'm not the only one." He chuckled, standing back up on his two feet. He itched the back of his head nervously. "Not really, I'm just having a bad day... My phone got taken away while I was in class and... well nah. It's a long story, you probably wouldn't believe me anyway."
Though there was another that walked in the direction that he threw the device. He didn't say anything to him and just walked by. That being said it was rather sketchy he glanced passed his shoulder to make sure nothing funny was happening. It was late at night after all, and these two weren't exactly dressed like normal people. He turned his head back to the other one. They looked identical, which he thought was pretty cool. It wasn't common to see twins, well at least not like these two.
He laughed nervously again, "Well, I appreciate the pick me up, but unfortunately I've gotta go! It's dark and my mom is going to ring my neck if she finds me out this late." He made an effort to walk around the guy in front of him as the other approached his rear. He didn't feel to comfortable, but he figured with their friendly approach they'd let him be on his way and they could keep the stupid little toy he threw. It was a win-win for both parties!
Then again, he had this hunch that the thing that was drawn from his teacher's desk was in fact his phone. He just had this odd gut feeling about it as he began to tell his story. However, not even he believed that a phone just turned into some weird looking walkie-talkie that didn't even work right and had way too bright of a flashlight on it. It was acting the same way his phone was though...

Yuudai simply let out a small laugh. "Trust me I have a pretty wild imagination, plus I can't exactly just believe it or not from one glance." Yuudai reassured, here he was a digimon, digital monster that could turn into a large dinosaur and a massive armored knight that could level this school with a attack, his imagination was pretty open.
Yuudai glanced over at his brother. "What's up?" he asked wondering why he was just standing there. Yasuo quietly and deftly showed his brother the device as the guy tried to leave, and while Yasuo might seem odd given this was the middle of the night he couldn't just keep this device. "Hey, you forgot this." Yasuo said holding the device towards him, after all it was nothing but a paperweight to him and despite the fact he threw it he might want it back right.
"Oh ya forgot to mention, my name's Yuudai, that's my twin brother over there Yasuo." Yuudai said pointing at Yasuo, in his hand however was the same device Yasuo tried to give back to the guy.

He could hear the guy warning him that he had forgot something, he already knew what it was. He wasn't entirely too interested in keeping it. If anything, it was just going to get him in more trouble. His parents were going to think he traded his phone for a stupid toy and was just making the entire story up. It was far-fetched after all, thinking that his phone had turned into a completely different electronic device. Not to mention it was a total downgrade from what he had before.
Nonetheless, it wouldn't be right to leave the broken device with them anyway. They would probably just get frustrated with it like he did, because it wasn't working right. He turned around, "Uh, well... You see, I threw it over there because it was broken and acting funny. Come to think of it, the whole way that I obtained it was kind of funny. I'm pretty sure that used to be my cell phone. Now it's just a toy that doesn't even work." He sighed in disbelief of his own story and went back to thinking about how his parents would react.
"My parents are going to kill me, I had a really nice phone. My father always tells me to keep a close eye on it and make sure I don't lose it because it cost him a lot of money and I should value the things others get me. He's gonna be so disappointed." His head dropped slightly as though he had failed as a son.
It was then that Yuudai introduced himself followed by introducing his brother using the device that Chris just so happened to begin to reach for so he could head home. It was then he had made his mind up, "It's nice to meet you both, you seem kind. I hope to see you again in the future, I'm Christopher O'Kaleigh. You can call me Chris though, or whatever. I have a lot of names at this place." He chuckled and continued, "I think it's best you guys keep it... I don't really know what to do with it. Bringing it home is only going to cause more problems. It's best my parents think I lost my phone, not trade it for something." He bowed slightly turning away once more.

Yuudai and Yasuo both looked at one another, they had to get it to him since he seemed to be the tamer this thing was meant for, with a sigh and knowledge that he was going to sound completely insane Yasuo took the device Yuudai was holding, Shi's digivice before once again trying to get Chris's attention. "That might not be for the best, we already have one." Yasuo said as he held both digivices, despite one looking a vastly different color then the other it was very clear they were the same device. "And trust me, this thing is quite a bit better then a phone." Yasuo added.
Yuudai walked over to his brother scraching the side of his head. "Yeah it would be best if you held on to it, I can't exactly explain why but it's important. And while I know trusting two random teenagers on the street isn't the best idea." Yuudai lied, they were not teenagers, they were hardly a year old. "Man this is so hard to explain." Yuudai said with a sigh not knowing how he could convey this was important, if only the digi egg could spawn like normally so they could explain it with proof that wasn't them turning into dinosaurs.

Once again he turned back around to address the two. They were resilient on him keeping this thing. He wasn't quite sure why. They claimed it to be important. Then the deal breaker came in when they showed him theirs. His eyes grew large. "You have one too!? What does it do?" It was then that he claimed it was "a bit better than a phone." Which he thought to be untrue. A phone kept him connected with the world... well, what little connection he had with it at least.
How was he to trust what this guy said, but then again he did have one of his own. It was all so confusing. Nearly infuriating. The two were so convincing that it was actually worth something. However, it was hard to explain. Which just so happened to be the entire mantra of this entire situation and day. "Hm..." He rubbed his chin and raised an eyebrow staring at the devices before him. "They do look the same, just different colors. Why are they different colors?" He was far too curious, yet so reluctant on taking the darn thing back.
He reached his hand out to grab the device, "Let me just see if I can get it to work again. The on button is this red one right?" He pointed toward the third button that was placed closest to the bottom of it, and without letting them respond to the question he just asked he mashed the button once more. The light blinding him once again. He flipped it in the opposite direction showing it to the two. "Am I using it right?" He shouted as the thing screamed with electronic sounds and blared a beam. He shielded his eyes with his left arm and looked away from the device slightly. As he did he peaked out the crux of his arm and could see a light projecting in the distance up into the sky. He brought the device down to his side and the light vanished on the device and in the sky.
"Did you see that!? What does it mean!?" It was unlikely that the two looked the same direction as he did, but it was worth a shot. He could hardly see, himself. Maybe he was just seeing things like you do if you stare at a light for too long.

Yuudai got his best poker face when he asked what it does, oh nothing much it just allows a digital being to turn into a larger being and become powerful enough to level a building with a attack, speaking of which I am one such creature. Yeah he was trying to not sound crazy so maybe it would be best to not point that out for now, at least for now unless the digimon partner wanted to show up at anytime, that would be fantastic.
Yasuo shrugged at the color thing. "We don't know, they come depending on the person and the one they're supposed to be partnered with." Yasuo explained calmly before sighing. "This is going to sound mad but, in having that device that means, you'll be getting a partner soon, a friend who can help you out, in more ways then you could imagine." Yasuo explained, his voice never rising, his tone set and his eyes sharp, it would be hard to deny his claim due to the sheer amount of knowledge and confidence in what he was saying.

Excitement bounced within his body as Yasuo spoke. All he cared about was if that light he just saw was his "partner" that they spoke about or not. He grinned large, "So what will it look like? Where is your partner?" He was so giddy he could hardly contain himself he had done a complete 180 from his earlier mood and actually completely forgot about going home.
"You didn't answer me, either. Did you guys see that light? It was over there!" He pointed off into the distance. The tops of a few apartment buildings could be seen and beyond them was a treeline. It seemed to be somewhere behind the tree line, but he wasn't entirely sure. It was doubtful that the two saw it. So he had a suggestion, "Should I try it again? Maybe that light was my partner?" He was bouncing on his toes from foot to foot in a wide stance his tongue sticking out of his mouth moistening his top lip beneath his nose. He held the device far out in front of him his other hand readied to press the index finger. Anxious was an understatement at this point.

Yuudai nodded, he saw it. At that question of partners Yasuo scrached the side of his head before sighing. "Well, technically we lied, this isn't our device. He's in the hospital right now. We're his partners, me and my brother." Yasuo said before shaking his hands and head. "Please don't ask right it, it's kinda complicated and we don't really have time to explain." Yasuo said hoping he would believe him.
The twins both nodded. "Yeah, go right ahead and try again. It would be best to try everything, we don't fully know how this part works, it was him who found us." Yasuo added, he used the pronoun to refer to his partner, his tamer.

This was crazy, insane really. He didn't have any idea what was going, but he felt like it was something important. Something worthwhile. Something that was going to change things for the better! Finally. Well, it's not like things were bad for very long, it just felt like forever because he is so young. A year is a long time to deal when you're only 14, after all.
His giddy ready dance soon came to an end after they told him to try again. He reinserted his tongue into his mouth and his face gathered serious hint to it. "Alright, here we go. Show yourself, partner!" He shouted, not really sure but the last anime that he watched that was similar to this situation had some words that were similar in flavor. He had no regrets on his choice of words.
His finger mashed the button as the light emitted once again from the device and the wood line. He pointed, "Over there, I don't know though. It's pretty dark out there. What happens if something or someone attacks me? I'll never get to meet my partner." He was worried for himself, not like this was exactly a "safe-place" at night. Nor was any place, really.
"Forget it, I'm going. I wanna meet this guy. I wouldn't mind having a friend to hang around with me every once and a while." He announced, "You guys can come too if you want, but if not I understand."
