A couple of weeks ago, the world seemed so much easier to understand.
Eva sat on a fallen log, a good ways out from any trails through the dense forest. This was an escape, a release from the madness that had been all around her ever since she got to Japan. Digital life forms, a whole digital world, and what was she in all this? Half a Renamon, cut apart and put back together with prototype "augmentations", cold metal and carbon fibre replacing digital flesh and bone. It wasn't real, it wasn't her. But what was?
That was yet another thing that had been bothering the cyborg. She wasn't flesh and blood like the rest of the world, she was a construct of data linked to military grade weaponry. Was she even real? Was she even a person? The digimon had tried convincing herself with the thought "I think, therefore I am", but that was becoming more and more hollow every time she told herself that, and even every time she saw herself in a mirror, the cybernetics clearly showing to her that she was not a complete being any more.
A wise man once said "Alcohol doesn't give you the answers, but, it does make you forget the question." Eva certainly wanted to forget as she looked down to the bottle of whiskey she had placed by her side. It was time to get hammered, time to forget, time to let the insanity of both the digital and "real" world wash away.
She gripped the shot glass she had managed to swipe along with the bottle, pouring the brown liquid into it, however, in her emotional state, she misjudged the pressure needed to hold it, the cybernetics whirring as the glass cracked into intricate spiderweb patterns beneath her grasp.
Frustrated, she just threw the damn thing aside and took a hefty swig straight from the bottle. It was time to forget.

"Maia-Maia! Faster!" A white pipe fox raced across the ground, scrambling over large, aged roots from the trees that filled the forest. After several feet, the little monster would stop, and look over his shoulder to make sure that his companion was following. Finally, getting fed up with his need to slow down for her constantly, the fox's ears drooped, eyelids lowering in an impatient manner. "Maia," the alien grumbled, much like a parent would.
With much silence to his attempts to cheer on his tamer's slow pace earlier, he was surprised to hear a disinterested, "hm?" So she was listening to him! Amber eyes slowly shifted away from the screen in her hand, to stare at the cartridge-carrying creature.
"You gotta use that now?" Clearly, someone wasn't interested in his lack of attention-receiving! "We're outside! Do outside stuff!" The Kudamon bolted to his tamer, scrambling up her leg, and only stopping his ascent once he was clinging to the collar of her shirt, attempting to make some serious eye-contact. "I need the outdoor stuff! And you won't explore my world! So play with me! Not your phone!"
What a hassle.
Fingers moved to grip the scruff of the monster's neck, as he released his hold on her shirt. Still, they held him to maintain eye level. "You're the reason we haven't had outside time. Or phone time. Shouldn't you, I don't know, feel bad or something?"
Yellow eyes of the fox only seemed to gain a glazed-over appearance, as he simply hung from the girl's hand. Mouth parted, as if it debated on actually contributing an argument. Instead, a, "bleh!" sound emitted as the only warning before the fox's pink tongue dragged itself across Maia's face. Why would she expect anything different? Dropping the Digimon on the ground, the tamer quickly wiped the saliva from her face, as the Kudamon began his scurrying again. "I'd feel bad, but I blame you anyway. It's okay, though, cause I forgave you already," he chirped, during his scurrying.
Wait. Forgive her? It wasn't Maia's fault that they'd gotten in trouble!
Before this argument could continue, Kuu interrupted with, "plus! Since you wouldn't take me to the Digimon, I'm taking us to one! Or," he paused with a sniff, "I think that's what it is? I don't know! Let's find out!" That certainly wasn't a promising statement. And, what exactly did he mean by any of that? The rookie didn't seem overly concerned, so with any luck, it wasn't going to kill anyone. But, then again, it was hard to tell with her partner.
But, after a few more steps, the Digimon seemed less interested in taking the lead. Eyes seemed to bore past a few more trees, but the monster didn't continue. Instead, he nudged his nose at the direction, before scrambling up a different tree, and vanishing into the leaves. What, so he was just going to leave a human girl with a strange maybe-monster? This was an awful idea!
Still, Maia began walking forward, shoving her phone into her back pocket as she walked. True to the direction that her partner had pointed, something seemed to be... drinking away their problems? Wait, could Digimon do that? Was intoxication actually a thing for them, too?
How confusing.
More confusing was the fact that the one she was staring at was wearing clothing. Was Kuu mistaken in telling her that this was a Digimon? Either way, they didn't seem to be particularly dangerous at the moment. One hand shoved itself into her jacket pocket, entangling fingers around a digivice, as the other brushed blonde bangs out of her face. Pursing her lips, the teen took a few more steps toward the stranger. Ah, what was something to say when coming upon a situation like this?
Trying to maintain a casual tone, the tamer finally found some sort of wording, although it wasn't anything particularly amazing to start off with. Agh, it had been a while since she'd actually encountered a stranger. Why couldn't Maia have been born with above-par charisma or something? Either way, silence was probably a bit more creepy than anything that the girl could come up with to better identify the potential situation. "Hey, there. Are you doing alright?"

"Nope...Nope...Nope...Nope...Nope..." Repeatedly rang from the squishy Digimon as he checked to see if anything in their path was edible. Such an odd creature. The ginger paid more attention to his own thoughts trying to think of what would be next for Regummymon. It was always on his mind, and his teachers even began to notice as well as his mom and dad. Though they didn't mind that he was outside and not inside playing video games all day as usual. They thought it was strange, however. Chris had no idea what to tell them. It was irrelevant, nonetheless.
Regummymon scurried back and forth as they made their way to the forest. Chris didn't know what to do when it came to progressing his partner, but he figured he try what they did on TV: train. How would they train? Only thing that came to mind for someone of Regummymon's stature was hitting a tree over and over again. So, that would be their first step, surprisingly enough Regummymon was ecstatic about it. Hence his consistent energy level at the moment. Chris placed his arms behind his head, looking up at the sky. Letting out a sigh he had a thought, "Say, Regummymon, are there a lot of different Digimon?" He stretched and looked down at the red blob lackadaisically who came to a halt at the question.
The little guy looked perplexed beyond belief as his eyeballs seemed to roll back into his head searching his brain for the answer. "Hm, I don't know. I think so. Are there a lot of different humans?" He replied and continued tasting inanimate objects.
"Yeah, I suppose so. We all look the same though, just different colors." Chris responded not giving it much thought at all, he thought humans were rather boring. Their personalities could be intricate from person to person, but overall their looks never really differed to much from the other.
Regummymon left a spotted trail of saliva from each thing he touched with his tongue, he paused and walked beside Chris for a moment. "Yeah... Humans are boring." Seeking a rise out of his partner, though he'd get none. The two began to find themselves at the edge of the wood line.

Eva wasn't expecting company, nor particularly wanting it right now, hence why she came out this far off the trail in the first place. She considered just cloaking and disappearing into the dense vegetation, but that would just be plain impolite, so instead she turned to this newcomer. She didn't seem to be a threat, and likely was aware of digimon considering she didn't instantly freak the hell out upon seeing her. Or was she freaking out? Kind of hard to tell with that stare.
Eva put down the bottle and sighed, the cybernetics giving a subtle whirr and a click. By this point, Maia would probably have been able to tell that yes indeed, this was a digimon, but a rather unusual one at that, what with her looking like a Renamon with high tech looking cybernetic augmentations, finally responding once Maia had broken the awkward silence.
"I've had better days."

Okay. Okay, this Digimon-whatever-it-was certainly seemed a bit different from the ones that Maia had encountered in the past. While, yes, Digimon looked kind of like they belonged in a video game, this one seemed to belong in a totally different genre of one! Were those mechanical parts? What did the Digital World need cyborg-looking-things for? Given, Maia had never actually seen a Renamon, so she had nothing to compare it to. Nor was she aware that this was an odd appearance for one of them. But, all the other creatures that she had come across seemed pretty organic in comparison! Spiders, mammals... This even made the weird doll ones feel a bit more average.
The tamer just had to come to terms with the fact that Digimon came in a lot of varieties that she was unfamiliar with.
Yeah, it certainly looked like they'd had better days. Most people didn't go off to drink in the woods someplace unless they were having a really bad time. Or, if they just really didn't like people to judge them for their alcoholism, she supposed. "I would say that I know the feeling," Maia hesitated, throwing a glance to some of the trees. Where had Kuu run off to? He had better still be nearby! If her partner had just up-and-abandoned her with a strange Digimon, she was going to be incredibly irritated. "But, I get the idea that I don't." After all, how could a human even fathom being able to feel whatever another creature could? She didn't know this Digimon, let alone if they had any problems in life that a teenage girl could relate to!
So far, at least the entity didn't seem to be particularly violent. That was at least a win of some sort, right? The blonde made a small motion to an empty space on the fallen log that was being sat upon by the Digimon. "Uh, would you mind if I joined you for a bit?" After all, it wasn't like she could walk off and expect her own Digimon to find her again, in the case that he had wandered off and left her with a stranger. Kuu just didn't have the attention span for that! Though, Maia could hope that he was probably just playing in one of the treetops nearby.

Grass bristled the soles of Chris's shoes, making a distinct sound as he halfway dragged his feet with each step. It was a rather long walk just to get away from civilization in order to hit a tree a bunch of times with his partner. Looking over at him he couldn't help but feel a small rush of energy as the little guy continuously skittered around from one side to another of the boy. Regummymon was overly excited, it was his first time getting to "train". Though, Chris felt like the feeling of excitement would end when the Digimon realized how much work it actually was to do so.
Chris cleared the path for the two of them, though he broke branches that were in the way Regummymon still managed to run into one every now and then. The small, gummy creature making no hint of pain or anything of the sort as each branch pricked at him. Strange, Chris thought. Though, the exoskeleton of the Digimon was probably made to endure such things. Nonetheless, Chris scanned the area searching for a nice clear area where they could watch each other's back and have enough space to hangout afterwards.
Chris's footsteps came to a halt as he thought he heard something in the distance. Regummymon slammed into his right leg and let out a "ouf" as it crashed onto its back. Over exaggerated, was a understatement. Chris looked down at the creature giving him a confused look. "All those branches and my legs hurts more? Did you hear that?" He queried, Regummymon opening his eyes from the wince he once held giving Chris an innocent smile.
"Well, you hadn't said anything in so long. I thought you might had forgotten about me." He whined not receiving enough attention because the walk was so long and horrendous. "This isn't as fun as I thought it would be, when do we start?" Regummymon had completely ignored the question Chris had asked, he probably was just hearing things.
Chris sighed, "I'm not sure, bud. We've been walking for a while, I know. I'm sorry. I had forgotten how far the forest was from my house. I hadn't been here in a long time." Which was true last time he was here was several years ago with his father to go camping and learn about the outdoors. Though, all Chris did then entire time was complain about the heat. Not much had changed. "Anyway, I think we're close we just have to find a good spot." Regummymon got back up, rolling around to do so, and the two continued on their walk.

"Unless you were cybernetically augmented against your will, forced to flee from London to Japan, and then found out there's a digital world that makes no sense but is where there are whole populations of people somehow made of data like you, no, probably not." She kept a fairly neutral tone all throughout that statement, however, there were certainly hints in there of the emotions and existential crisis that Eva was going through right now in her voice, despite her attempt to hide those vulnerabilities.
She shrugged at the young woman asking to sit next to her. "Sure. Go ahead." budging up slightly to allow the human to sit down. Something grabbed her eye though, a small shape in a treetops. Her eye shields snapped down as she switched to thermal imaging, scanning for whatever that was, soon picking out its shape.
"Movement in the treeline. Switching to thermal. Some sort of half ferret half snake? Coiled around a... firearm cartridge? What?" She blinked a couple of times, refocusing her cybernetic eyes. Still the same image. Was something funny in the whiskey? She sniffed at it, nope, that was, well, whiskey. Nothing seemed amiss there, but what certainly did seem amiss was whatever the hell that was up in the trees.

Maia listened to the Digimon's explanation of their circumstances, before popping her lips and expelling air from her lungs. "Ah-uh, no," the tamer quickly let down. "But, I was kind of forced to move here from America? And I entirely understand how the Digital World makes no sense." That was some bonding-type thing, right? "Still, no, not the same." The more that the stranger talked, the more it really did sound like a video game character!
Still, the girl moved to sit next to the other being, only to seem surprised at whatever it was doing now. "Thermal?" What? That didn't make any sense to her! Well, it did, but not from a Digimon's perspective! But, the description made the alarm entirely vanish and turn into a small chuckle. While Maia wanted to groan at her Digimon being outed so easily, but the way that the stranger was explaining Kuu was just ridiculous! Snake ferrets!
"At least he didn't just up-and-leave," the blonde sighed, getting over the humor in how he appeared. Now, she wouldn't be able to un-see the 'snake-ferret with a firearm cartridge.' "He's my, uh," Maia hesitated, "friend, I guess?" And here, she had been hoping to look normal. Instead, the secret was out. "If you know about the Digital World, then you probably can figure what he is." Though, if this stranger came from London, well... How much did she know?
Eyes lifted to the trees, trying to see whatever the cybernetics could, but there was no luck. So, instead, a better tactic. "Hey, Kuu. Stop being rude and say hello."
From where ever it was that the stranger was staring, a voice shouted, "Hello!"
"Not what I meant."
A few branches could be seen swaying as the fox hopped about on them, only to drop his head out from a mass of leaves, "but, I'm busy! Before his tamer could ask what was keeping him so preoccupied, one of his paws poked out from the leaves, as he squirmed and tried to point in one of the directions, "I sniffed a sniff that-way, but I can't see what I sniff from here!" With that, yellow eyes locked onto his tamer, accusingly, "watching a human makes it so hard to do fun stuff." Now, eyes turned to the cyborg-like Digimon on the log, before he shook himself to drop onto the ground, with a small thump of dust. "But maybe I just sniff you, and I'm confused." Doubting his nose? Well, it had been a pretty long time since the Kudamon had been able to roam freely outside of the house!

Each step through the forest seemed to be longer than the last, and Regummymon began to grow inpatient. “Hey, so when do w—“His words were cut short as Chris got upon one knee behind a tree, sheltering the Digimon’s mouth with his hand. He could chatter in the distance, and it seemed to be ahead. He winced his eyes to see if he could see past the thick woods. A clear area could be seen up ahead, but it seemed to be inhabited. He wasn’t exactly sure by what, however. “Regummymon, keep quiet.” Chris whispered releasing his grasp from the Digimon’s squishy lips, pressing his finger upon his own. “There’s someone or more than one person somewhere over there.” He used one hand to shelter the right side of his face, the other pointing into the hand as he muttered the words to his querulous partner. He signaled the direction in doing so. Regummymon quirked up and scurried underneath the knee that was elevated from the ground beneath Chris, peaking over the planted limb. “I think there’s Digimon over there, it’s the same feeling when we were around those other people.” Regummymon whispered, though it wasn’t very well accomplished. Likely not to be heard by those that were up the way. Though, there was no way to be sure of that. Chris sighed lightly, “If you’re gonna whisper you’ve gotta do it better than that, bro.” He was slightly irritated, yet humored, by the small Digimon’s inability to properly whisper. “What do you think we should do? Should we see if they’re friendly? Seems pretty weird that we’re just out here spying on them. I wish we could see them better.” He continued on whispering. The fact of the matter is that even if they did know who they were and they weren’t friendly Chris wasn’t too sure they could do very much in order to protect themselves. Redrawing the past moment he looked back on the voices, realizing that they sounded feminine for the most part. Cheeks glowing red, “I’m pretty sure they’re girls, or at least one of them is. I don’t know. Either way, you need to hide can’t let more people see you again. Things will end up like last time, maybe.” Chris slide his bag from his back slowly placing it on the ground flat, attempting to do everything with as little sound as possible. Regummymon grunted, not liking that he had to go into the bag. “It won’t be long, I’m just going to go and see who they are. Nothing wrong with talking to some girls, right?” He chuckled nervously, the small creature complying and climbing into the bag. Slowly zipping the bag back up and carefully placing it back upon his back, sliding each arm in one at time. “Alright.” He said to himself taking a deep breath in and releasing it. He began walking into the direction of the voices, and he could hear them talking again. The words “Digital World” came out clear to him, which made the boy grow with excitement. The possibilities of them being friendly grew in his mind. He tried to make his arrival apparent, not picking up his feet too much as he walked. He wanted them to know he was coming so they weren’t startled. Though that likely wouldn’t keep them from being alert. He was able to see them by now and he brought his body from behind a tree that blocked their vision of him. Raising his hand and giving a bright smile he announced himself. “Hello.”

Well, at least that confirmed that this person was indeed a tamer, rather than a random civilian. That digimon was strange. The design didn't seem to make all too much sense, but, what did these days? That was one of the main reasons she was out here drinking herself into oblivion in the first place.
Nonetheless, Eva returned the greeting, slightly confused at this digimon's strange obsession with "sniffing" things, not to mention its rather unusual appearance. It just didn't seem practical, however, it was moving around just fine, so, it must work, right? It just didn't make any damn sense.
She shook her head, before glancing up over to the trees. Were those footsteps? The thick tree trunk was blocking any thermal signatures. Suddenly, another human stepped out from behind the cover of the tree! Eva looked over to him. For what was meant to be a quiet moment of drowning her sorrows, this was turning into quite a crowd.
"Hey."

Kuu didn't think he looked particularly funny. But, a robo-Renamon kind of did. Not that he knew what a real Renamon looked like anyway! But, before anything else could be said, a newcomer butted into the conversation! Not that they were really having a conversation, anyway. But, now the fox was using a paw to gesture wildly at the unidentified person. "I knew I smelled something!"
Maia looked to the boy, letting out a small groan. Please be a tamer or spirit user. Please don't call the police on a bunch of aliens in the forest. This was all awful. "This is not how I was planning on spending my day," she admitted, lowly. Pulling her hand from her pocket, the tamer leaned forward, hiding her D-Arc between her clasped hands. Surely, the digimon beside her would be able to see it, but if the other person could, was a different story. After some of her experiences, the girl had found that one could never be too prepared for a situation to go south, fast. And, given how close Kuu was to the person that had stepped around the tree, it was better to be safe.
"Hi," the girl started, feeling the need to continue breaking whatever silences could build up. "Nice day for a walk, isn't it?"

Chris just being in the presence of the three felt awkward without having a Digimon out, as he noticed that one was sitting on the log next to the girl and another was before them. The girl must have been a tamer with two Digimon, like Yasuo and Yuudai had. They responded, though it seemed it was more in shock. The tamer seemed to be bold enough to say more than Hi, however. Which made him feel a bit comfortable and the small ferret looking thing seemed friendly. You know, minus the large cartridge he was wrapped around. The girl spoke to him, he gasped slightly in shock as she seemed rather cute, but he was pretty sure she was out of his age bracket. His face turned red, “Uhh—yeah, I suppose you could say that.” Regummymon rumbled around in his bag making it apparent that something was inside. “Oh.” He remembered his friend was within the bag. A bead of sweat dropped from his forehead, he smiled scratching the back of his head. “Uhm… you wouldn’t happen to be able to help me, would you?” It was an odd question, but it surely would be clearer in a moment. He removed one strap from his shoulder, following the other, placing the bag on the ground and unzipping it. “Alright, it’s fine.” He stated, standing back up. “Finally!” Regummymon shouted pushing the bag to its side and crawling out. He was startled to see so many beings around. He smiled, “Hi, I’m Regummymon! What’s your name?” Always so quick to know who everyone is, Chris figured it was better than his own social skills. Chris realized he had forgotten to introduce himself also, “Right, I’m Chris. Sorry, just had to be sure what I was walking in on before letting the… Digimon out of the bag.” He chuckled at his little joke. The group didn’t seem too bad, but Chris tried not to make contact with the cyborg one. It seemed a bit more hostile than the other two, not to mention the smell of liquor coming from it. Which was a smell he knew only when things weren’t going to well for his father. He knew to stay away.

"Can't say I was expecting all this company either."
Eva looked to the bag, detecting movement. Did this guy have something in there? Storing an animal in a bag like that, PETA would freak the heck out! Good thing they weren't here. She looked back to Chris when he asked if anyone could help him. Was something up? His tone didn't seem like one of huge urgency, although something did seem to be making him nervous. It was probably whatever he needed help with, oooor the digimon outfitted with military grade hardware smelling of booze.
"Sure. What do you need help with?" Her tone seemed friendly enough, although she didn't seem to react much to the pun. What did get a reaction though was the sudden digimon springing up from the bag and greeting everyone so enthusiastically.
She was naturally taken aback by this sudden digimon in a bag, popping up more like a jack in a box, but, that would explain the movement she saw a few moments ago. "I'm Eva."

The strange Digimon beside her seemed more than willing to help the newcomer with whatever it was that he needed help with, so Maia shrugged and added, "possibly." After all the things that other people had put the girl through with favors, she was certainly going to wait to find out the request, before being all-too excited to help out.
At this point, it was hardly a surprise when he let a Digimon out of the bag. When someone doesn't even bat an eye at a robo-'mon and a talking white and purple fox? That's a surefire sign that something's up! Or, Maia was just a little paranoid. Some days, it was hard to tell.
With names being thrown out there, the girl tried to make a mental note. She had been about to ask Eva what her name was, but it seemed that it was unnecessary at this point. "Maia." While, normally, the pun would have caught her attention more, the tamer was more focused on the friendly creature. Lips moved to introduce her own partner, but soon they simply closed, knowing there was no point.
Because, much like this thought process--
"New friend!" The pipe fox shrieked, lunging to playfully tackle the absolute stranger.
--it was bound to be interrupted.
With the Rookie in a fit of giggles, as he hopefully wouldn't accidentally cause any harm to the new, little Digimon. But, since the Kudamon clearly wasn't going to introduce himself, due to distractions, it was left to his tamer to include, "that's Kuu. He's, uh, easily excited." Yes. That was a good way to describe the fox. Excited. Not just completely insane.

Alright, so we had Eva the standing fox cyborg cat-dog, Maia the Tamer of what seemed to be the fox gunshell Kuu. So many different people that walked the Earth with different Digimon. It was extremely interesting, not just to Chris but to Regummymon as well.
“Cool, you guys look dangerous!” Regummymon exclaimed scurrying toward Kuu running circles around him and spinning simultaneously. Regummymon liked, Kuu he seemed playful just as he was. Chris chuckled a bit at his partner’s reaction to Digimon.
Feeling awkward being the only one standing in the group, he took a seat on the floor. “I didn’t expect anyone to be out here, to be honest. At least not any Digimon or Tamers. Crazy, really.” He said, which was true and was Godsend almost all the same. Perhaps one of the three could provide some sort of feedback on how to train a Digimon properly, which made him remember that he had already asked them for help when he let Regummymon out of the bag. “Right, anyway. I was wondering if any of you knew a proper way to train a Digimon? I feel like there is something that we should be doing, but I’m not exactly sure what. We don’t want to be useless when something comes up, after all.” Chris stated, he twiddled his thumbs toward the last part looking down from Eva and Maia and to his hands that were propped up on his knees. “Not that you guys are here to give out any help like that or anything… I just figured I’d ask, y’know?” He grew chipper toward the end of the statement as well looking up and smiling.
“NOT USELESS!” Regummymon shouted continuing to dance around Kuu.
