"Another boring day wasted in class." Ravenna is a young track athlete currently enrolled in college. After receiving a scholarship for her skill at the high jump, the worst thing Ravenna has to worry about is getting through dull, mundane classes. Ravenna sits in class, silently reading a copy of Dante's Inferno. (Thinking) "This book is meh. Huh, is the teacher ever going to stop talking? I'd rather be anywhere else right now. So tired, why does class have to start so early?! Just a few more minutes until lunch. Grind it out."
Finally, the big hand on the clock reaches 12. Ravenna puts her books in her backpack and gets up from her chair. She stretches her shoulders and her knees, getting cramped up from sitting for too long. Ravenna goes to grab her pens off the desk, but they roll off onto the floor. (Thinking) "Stupid gravity." Ravenna reaches down and picks up her pens, but now her notebook flies right out of her backpack. "What the? How is that even possible?! I must be delusional from not eating enough." Ravenna grabs her things and hurries off to eat lunch. Outside the window, a crow sits perched on a tree branch. Their eyes start to glow bright purple.
Ravenna orders a large deli sandwich, and sits down in the campus lounge. Couches were better than lunch tables any day. College might stink, but at least it wasn't as bad as high school. One of Ravenna's friends from track comes over and sits by her. She has red hair pulled back into pigtails, and is wearing a maroon and white school uniform. "Hey, Ravenna. Wow, a whole sandwich? Are you going to finish that?" "Buzz off, Misty. I'm having a weird day." "Well, I hope you'll get your head screwed on straight for practice today." "Believe me, practice is the only enjoyable part of my day." The two young ladies finish eating their lunches. "Well, I'll cya at practice." "Where are you off to? You don't have class for another hour." "Just going to run some errands. Class and track take up so much of my time, I've gotta squeeze in some fun whenever I can." Misty heads off, leaving Ravenna by herself to kill some time until her next class. (Thinking) "Class, homework, and track take up all of my time too. And I'm practically starving on that meager scholarship. Huh, I hate my life."

With some time before her next class, Ravenna decides to go for a walk around the campus. She walks past the north building, and past the parking lot. As she's walking on the sidewalk, a large crow swoops down and perches on a nearby tree. "Cool bird. I'm going to get a picture of it." Ravenna takes out her phone to snap a picture, but she is suddenly pushed down by a strong gust of wind, dropping her phone. The crow flies down to the sidewalk and picks up her phone with its beak. "Hey, give that back!" Ravenna tries to grab her phone away from the crow, but the crow takes off with it, flying off into the distance. "Are you kidding me?! I should have just stayed in bed today."
Ravenna makes her way to her next class. After a few more hours of mind numbing boredom, she finishes her last class of the day, and heads to the locker room to get ready for track practice. She changes into a black tank top with white stripes and matching shorts. After some warm up stretches, she sets up the bar and gets ready for the high jump. Her friend Misty is standing around talking to boys instead of helping Ravenna set up the bar. (Thinking) "Come on, Misty! You never take practice seriously." Ravenna sets the bar up to a reasonable height. Low enough for a warm up. Ravenna starts several meters back, and runs towards the bar at an angle. At the last second, she turns and jumps over the bar. It looks like she's going to clear it, but her butt bumps the bar and knocks it off the poles. (Thinking) "I couldn't even clear it at that height! I'm going to blame that sandwich I ate."
Ravenna has better luck clearing the next few jumps, but only after lowering the bar a couple centimeters. Way lower than when she set the regional record in junior high, but she had put on a few pounds since then. But no one is at their best all the time. Ravenna walks over to some bleachers and grabs a towel out of her bag. As she's wiping the sweat off her face, she feels someone tapping her on the shoulder. Ravenna turns around, and sees someone she would really rather not talk to. A male student with long blonde hair who has been obsessed with Ravenna for years. "Hey, beautiful. Nice jumping out there today." "Get lost, Kyou. I'm not in the mood." "Why don't you let me take you out for a nice dinner, hmm? Have you had calamari before? You'll never know if you like it if you don't give it a try."
"Have you read Alice in Wonderland?" "Me, read a book? I've seen multiple film adaptations." "Then you are familiar with the Cheshire Cat?" "That funny ghost cat thing with the big smile? Ya." "Well then, make like the Cheshire Cat, and disappear!" Ravenna grabs her bag and storms off in a huff. "Oh, nice burn, Ravenna! That was such an epic burn, from somebody so cold hearted!"

After practice, Ravenna heads back to the locker room and hits the showers. She changes back into her school uniform. (Thinking) "Stupid bird, taking my cell phone! How am I going to get another phone now?" Misty comes walking over and starts getting dressed. "Hey, do you wanna go to that new dance club that just opened?" Going out dancing was really not Ravenna's thing. "No, not really. I just want a relaxing evening." "Come on, we never get to do anything fun. You're always complaining how every day is so boring." "Alright, fine. I'll meet you there tonight." "Text me when you are leaving." "I can't. A bird took my phone."
Misty looks stunned. "A bird took your phone?! You are one unlucky girl." Misty grabs her things and exits the locker room. (Thinking) "What is wrong with this day? Now I gotta go shake my backside at a bunch of drugged up perverts. Not everyone is such a tramp like you, Misty." Ravenna exits the locker room and starts walking back to her dorm. "At least the sun is out. I'm so sick of rain." While walking along, Ravenna feels a strong gust of wind. The crow from before flies down and lands on the sidewalk. It's carrying a strange device in its beak. "Hey, that's my phone! Come here, you sky rat!" Ravenna snatches the device from the crow.
"Wait, this isn't my phone. What is this?" The device makes some strange beeping sounds, and it starts to glow bright white. Ravenna is suddenly engulfed in a cloud of black smoke. It feels like her body is going through a metamorphosis. When the smoke clears, there's no sign of Ravenna, and only two crows stand on the ground. "What happened? Why am I on the ground?" Ravenna looks down, and sees two crow feet. "What the? This can't be real!" Ravenna sees two black wings flapping around where her arms should be. "That device turned me into a crow! When am I going to wake up from this nightmare?!"
The first crow takes off into the sky. "Hey, come back!" Ravenna tries to fly after it, but only goes a few feet before landing hard on the sidewalk. "Oww! This flying thing is hard. Alright, I have to coordinate my wings." Ravenna gets a running start, and flies up into the air, flapping her wings as fast as she can. She soars across the sky and perches up on the rooftop of a building on campus. "That was amazing! Oh my Goddess, I'm a freaking bird! And I thought this day couldn't get any weirder."

Ravenna flies around the city, looking down at all the buildings and trees. (Thinking) "All this flying is exhausting. No wonder birds are always eating. Why do I have the urge to eat disgusting things like bugs and garbage?" Ravenna lands on a tree branch at a park. She spies food left out on a table. "Am I really going to steal food? Well, I am a bird now. What's the harm?" Ravenna swoops down and lands on the table. She picks up a piece of bread with her beak. Some humans come running over, very angry a crow is taking their food.
Ravenna drops the bread and tries to speak to the humans. "Hey! I'm just taking a little bit! You people are fat enough already!" Because Ravenna is a crow, all they could here was "AWRCK! AAAWRCK!" Suddenly the humans are pushed back by a psychic blast. "Huh. Did I just do that?" Ravenna takes the bread and flies back to the tree. "Okay, this is somehow becoming even weirder. I've gotta find a way to change back." Ravenna flies over to the balcony outside her dorm room on campus. "Come on, change back!" She tries stretching her wings out, shaking, and fluffing her feathers, but nothing seems to work.
Finally, a bright flash of light illuminates Ravenna. She reappears as a Human, and the strange device from before is on the ground. She picks it up and examines it. "Whatever this thing is, it turns me into a crow. Okay, this is just weird." Ravenna goes to open the sliding glass door, but it is locked. "Oh right, the door is locked, and there's no key. I'll just fly back down and go through the front door." Ravenna picks up the device and tries to change back to a crow, but nothing happens. "You mean I'm stuck out here?! Why won't this day end?!"

Thanks to this strange device, Ravenna is now stuck outside on her balcony. Her room is on the 3rd floor, so she will have to climb down carefully. Ravenna steps over the railing and slowly lowers herself down. Her feet touch the railing on the second floor, and she carefully reaches down and holds onto the railing. Once Ravenna lowers down from the second floor, she lets go and drops down to the grass. Ravenna walks around to the other side of the building and enters through the regular door. She goes up to her dorm room and unlocks the door.
(Thinking) "That's enough of that. Now to relax for a while, then get ready to go out." Ravenna really, really didn't want to go to this club with Misty. She would much rather stay at home and read, or if she was going to go out, go somewhere with a better crowd of people. Ravenna is not the type of person who enjoys socializing with strangers at clubs. Ravenna sets her bags down on the floor and goes to the kitchen to make a sandwich. Ravenna's dorm room is very cluttered. Dirty clothes laying everywhere, bottles and cans covering the coffee table, and a large bed with way too many pillows and dolls. The walls are covered with posters and pictures of things Ravenna likes, mostly anime characters.
Ravenna makes a chicken sandwich and sits down on the couch to watch some TV. On the news is coverage of a monster attack that happened in the city. "Another monster sighting? What is going on in this city?" Ravenna doesn't know anything about the monster sightings. It doesn't even occur to her that the device the crow gave her had some sort of connection to these monsters. "How come nobody is doing anything about these monsters? Where are they coming from? Isn't Japan crazy enough without literal monsters appearing out of nowhere to wreck up the place?"

After watching some boring news, Ravenna decides to get ready to go to the club. She changes into a violet dress with a black jacket and black heels. (Thinking) "I really wish I had my cell phone back. Oh well. I'll leave that bird transformation thing at home. I still don't understand how it works." Ravenna exits her dorm and walks outside the building. In the parking lot is a young man standing next to a motorcycle. He is wearing a black helmet, leather racing jacket, and black jeans. He sees Ravenna and takes off the helmet. "Hey there, Ray." "Kyou?! What are you doing here?"
"Misty told me you were going to the club, and I thought I would give you a ride." "Since when do you drive a motorcycle?" "There's a lot you don't know about me. Maybe we could get to know each other better tonight." "I'll let you drive me there, only because I really don't want to pay for a taxi, but don't consider this a date. We are just going out as friends." "Right, right. Come on, have you ever ridden on a motorcycle before?" "No, be careful! People die on those things." Kyou sits down on the bike. Ravenna pulls her dress up a bit and swings one leg over the side of the bike, clinging on tight to Kyou. "Check this out." Kyou starts up the bike and speeds off. "I said be careful!" After a terrifying ride, the two arrive at the club.
Ravenna and Kyou enter the club. There are lights flashing and lame pop music blasting, and a bunch of young people wearing bizarre clothes bumping and grinding on the dance floor. Ravenna sees Misty over by the bar and walks up to her. "Hey, you made it!" "Ya, let's just get some drinks stick in a group." "Oh come on! We gotta dance a little. Loosen up!" The trio sits down at the bar and orders some drinks. The constant noise of the music and people babbling on is starting to drive Ravenna crazy. "Ugh, why can't everybody just shut up for 5 minutes?!" "Stop being such a bore, Ray!" "You look so funny when you are agitated. Your nose scrunches up, and your lips look so pouty." "Hahaha, you're right! Chillax, Ravenna. Enjoy yourself for once." "Alright, I'll try."

While the 3 young adults try to have a fun night on the town, a young woman with long black hair wearing a kimono is searching around the city for something. She walks over to the edge of a rooftop and looks down at Ravenna's dormitory. She takes out a digivice and scans for energy signals. The young woman turns to her partner, standing in the shadows. "This where the signal was last detected. Strange, where could they have gone?" "Have you considered the possibility of it being a Spirit User?" "Perhaps, but the data signal was too unusual. I don't know what we are dealing with." The woman's digivice starts flashing, and two more energy signals come up on the radar. "There must be others in the area. We will resume the search tomorrow." "I am, glad, you have decided to take a break. You've been so focused on this search the past few weeks." "I am not a part of a team any more. All I have is you, and it's our job to stop these renegade monsters from roaming the city."
Back at the night club, Ravenna and Misty are drinking at the bar. Kyou gets up and goes out on the dance floor. "Who is ready to dance?!" "Ooh I am!" Misty gets up and hurries over. The two start dancing to some kind of bland techno song. Ravenna scoffs at her friends and takes another drink from her glass. "Come on, Ray, dance with us." "You two look like idiots." "Stop being so self conscious all the time. You're acting like the freaking Pope." "Could you imagine Ravenna as the Pope? Walking around in that funny hat, yelling at all the archbishops?" "Since when do you know anything about religion?!" "Just get your butt out here and dance!" "Huh... alright."
Ravenna sets her drink down and walks slowly onto the dance floor. She begrudgingly moves her arms and feet around, dancing with no energy or passion at all. "Come on, put your heart into it." Ravenna starts putting more energy into it, actually trying to look like she is enjoying herself. "There ya go! Shake it!" For a moment, Ravenna is actually having fun dancing with her friends. Only for a moment. Kyou gets in real close and grabs her butt. Ravenna quickly brushes his hand away and slaps Kyou in the face. "You jerk! What is wrong with you?!" Ravenna grabs her bag and storms out of the club. Misty stomps down on Kyou's foot. "Ow! What was that for?" "You just HAD to go and do something stupid, didn't you?!"
Ravenna pays for a taxi and returns to her dorm room. She throws her coat down on the floor and grabs some ice cream out of the freezer. "I can't believe that stupid idiot Kyou! He's been trying to get in my pants for years! Next time I see him, I'll blast him right in the groin with a steel toe boot! Oh, why do I only get loser guys going after me?" As much as she didn't want to admit it, Ravenna wanted a boyfriend. She tells herself she needs to focus on track, but really she just wants a guy to treat her right. Most boys were driven off by her poor attitude. Just her annoyed glare alone could send a boy running off. After a night of cheating on her diet with a big bowl of ice cream, and watching reruns of old anime, Ravenna climbs into bed hoping to get a good night's sleep.

The next morning, Ravenna wakes up to the annoyingly bright sunlight shining in. Still too tired to get out of bed, she lays there thinking to herself. Normally, the alarm on her cell phone would go off to wake her up, but seeing as how she doesn't have her phone right now, it was fortunate that she didn't oversleep. Finally, Ravenna summons the willpower to get out of bed. (Thinking) "Bah, I'm so tired. Must find food." Ravenna goes to her tiny dorm room kitchen to get some breakfast. She prepares a bagel with cream cheese and an apple pear. (Thinking) "This is nice, but I could really go for some bacon." Ravenna pours a tall glass of orange juice, and enjoys a low calorie breakfast.
After finishing breakfast, Ravenna gets ready and heads out to her first class. She decides to bring the strange device with her, so she can figure out how to operate it. The first class of the day is Literature, probably Ravenna's best subject. Ravenna sits down at her desk, you know the one I'm talking about. The obligatory desk in the middle row at the end right next to the window. Normally Ravenna wasn't very inspired by the view, but today she is imagining flying around as a crow, not a care in the world. No assignments, no pressure to excel, no annoying side characters, just flying around eating garbage.
Finally, the last class of the day is over. Ravenna changes into her track uniform and goes outside. She does a bit better at the high jump than the day before. Shocking, considering she had been pigging out the last 24 hours. Maybe her mind was just more clear today. Again, Kyou shows up to talk to Ravenna. He waits over by the bench next to Ravenna's bag. (Thinking) "Great. Here we go again. Time for Mr. Grabby Hands to put his foot in his mouth." As Ravenna is walking over, she can see a more serious look on Kyou's face. This catches her off guard. "Hey Ray, do you have a minute?" "Ya, what's up?"
Kyou nervously adjusts the collar on his jacket. "Look, I'm really sorry about the way I acted last night. I understand if you don't want me bothering you any more." Ravenna can tell Kyou feels upset. Her anger is replaced with, err, whatever small amount of positive emotion Ravenna is capable of feeling. Pity? No, more like a momentary lack of bitter rage. "Hey, it's alright. Thanks for apologizing, it means a lot to me. We were both kind of drunk, and I hit you pretty hard. Let's just call it even." "That's good to hear. So, I'll be around if you wanna hang out sometime. How about today? If you don't have anything going on. I mean, just as friends, of course." Ravenna is already planning on testing out the device again, and doesn't really have time for Kyou today. "I'm kind of busy today, but maybe later this week we can do something. I haven't been to that fancy arcade down town yet. Or maybe just read some books."
"The arcade sounds fun. But reading might be nice." "Kyou, you shouldn't pretend to like something just because a pretty girl does." "Why? Do you see any pretty girls around?" Kyou's little dig makes Ravenna's face get all pouty, her eyebrows lower and her lips scrunch up. "Ya? Well, just be glad I didn't bring my steel toed boots." Ravenna grabs her bag and heads to the locker room. Kyou scratches the back of his head in confusion. (Thinking) "What does she mean by that?"

Ravenna changes back into her school uniform and goes outside to test her new bird transformation. She heads up to the rooftop of the campus gymnasium and tries to activate her device. "Go! On. Power on! And, action! Initiate. Activate. Execute!" The device starts to glow. A stream of data flows out and surrounds Ravenna, transforming her into her crow form. (Thinking) "All right, I actually got this thing to work! Now for some mid day flying around. I hope I can find something to eat besides garbage."
Ravenna stretches out her wings and takes off into the sky. She flies high above the buildings, circling around the campus. Suddenly an energy blast shoots by Ravenna. "Huh? Am I being attacked?" Ravenna hauls tail across the sky, trying to evade her would be pursuer. She is hit by a clear energy blast and tumbles down to a rooftop. A large foxlike creature lands on the rooftop and approaches Ravenna. "Hey! Mind your own business! AHWRCK!" Ravenna lets out a psychic scream, pushing the strange creature back. After regaining their footing, the fox dashes through the air and strikes Ravenna with a fast kick. The attack causes her to revert back to her normal form.
The fox creature is stunned to see this crow turn into a Human. "So, you are a Human." "Just what is going on here?!" "I can explain that." Ravenna looks over and sees a young woman wearing a kimono standing on the roof. "I wasn't expecting this." "Who are you? Random rooftop girl?" "Hold your tongue, she devil! My name is Kiyoko, and this is my partner Renamon. We patrol this part of the city for renegade monsters." "Well I am no monster. I just have this weird device that turns me into a bird."
Kiyoko raises an eyebrow in confusion. "So, you don't know what you are? I mean, what that device really is?" "Of course not." "Oh, this is ridiculous. Just who is handing out d-tectors like candy in this city? So you really don't know anything about Digimon?" "Uh, no. Is this some kind of nerd thing? I'm really more into athletics." Kiyoko glances over to Renamon, then looks back at Ravenna. "Come. There is much you need to know about."

Ravenna didn't know what to think. Who was this girl, and what is this foxlike creature? "What is your name?" "I'm Ravenna. I only just got this weird ability to transform into a crow." Kiyoko closes her eyes and says nothing. Ravenna puts her hands on her hips and raises an eyebrow. "Just what exactly is all this about?" Kiyoko takes a few steps closer to Ravenna. "There's an entire world out there that you don't know about. It's called the Digital World, and it's full of different kinds of Digimon. Some Humans can become Tamers, and raise Digimon." Kiyoko reaches into her sleeve and takes out a digivice. "I am a Digimon Tamer. You are what we call Spirit Wielders."
Ravenna takes out the device she got from the crow and looks at it. "You mean, these things can turn people into animals?" "Not just animals. Incredibly powerful monsters, some that would destroy the city if they were to enter our world. That device is a d-tector. You can spirit evolve into a Digimon form by saying 'Execute, Spirit Evolution." (Thinking) "What on earth is she talking about?" Kiyoko glances over at Renamon, then lets out a slight sigh. "Seeing as how you are a new Spirit Wielder, I believe it would be best for you to accompany me so you can get some experience."
Renamon walks over and stands next to Kiyoko. "You can learn more about us Digimon, and help stop bad Digimon from harming the city." Ravenna can't believe it. Maybe those monsters on TV were actually Digimon. Not knowing anyone else who knew anything about Digimon, Ravenna would have to accompany Kiyoko, if she wanted to understand these creatures. "Yes, Thank you. I would be glad to learn more. What exactly do Tamers do?" "Most just fight back against Digimon that threaten the city, and keep it safe. I have been patrolling day and night for any monster sightings."
Day and night? Ravenna is kind of impressed. "Wow. Sounds like a lot of hard work." Kiyoko looks down and frowns. "Well, it wasn't always this hard. I use to be part of a team that took down major threats to our world. But while stopping a dangerous menace, two members left, and the team was disbanded. Now the only Tamer left from the team that I keep contact with is Manabu. I've taken it upon myself to increase my effort, and do everything I can to protect this city with my wonderful partner, Renamon."
This was a lot to process at once. Monsters? Spirit Evolution? Hopefully it would start making sense after a while with Kiyoko. Ravenna thinks about what this is going to mean for her after school life. (Thinking) "Things are starting to get interesting." Ravenna smiles and claps her hands together. "Finally, some fun around here! But wait, what about my classes? And track?" "You will have to juggle your time between Digimon, and your studies and extracurricular activities. Just don't go flying around as a bird if I'm not around." "Relax. Now I won't have to go out on my own and try to figure all of this out." "Then it's settled. Let's track down some Digimon."

And so now Ravenna had somebody to explain Digimon to her. The good natured tamer tells her all about these Digital Monsters. "So wait, those monsters that have been attacking the city are called Digimon? Strange." Kiyoko nods. "Yes, and there seems to be a lot more activity now. More and more people in the city are becoming Tamers, and Spirit Users. That is why Renamon and myself must remain diligent." "I appreciate you helping me out. None of this makes that much sense."
The two girls and Renamon go around the city for a while, but are unable to locate any rogue Digimon. "That's enough for tonight. We can practice fighting another time." "Ugh, fighting?" "Yes. Digimon are rather powerful, and as a Spirit User you must learn to defend yourself. I know that I must continue protecting the city, but if I can help more people understand Digimon, that will also help as well." "Thank you, Kiyoko. And thank you too, Renamon." Ravenna is still getting used to the idea of having a giant fox walking around.
Ravenna goes back to her dorm room. She starts preparing some herbal tea for bed time. Suddenly there's a noise heard coming from the balcony. Ravenna opens the blinds to see the crow from before tapping on the door. "What's the big idea? You're the feather butt that took my phone." Ravenna can hear a voice inside her head. "Yes, that is right. I wanted to see how you would handle your new spirit powers on your own. But I see that you are fortunate to have found someone as intelligent as Kiyoko to guide you." "Did that bird just talk? I didn't see its beak move." "My name is Salem, and I am a Psycrowmon. I can speak to humans telepathically."
Ravenna resists the urge to stomp her foot down. "Then why couldn't you have explained thing before?!" "Again, I wanted to see how you would react. Here is your phone back." The crow starts hacking and coughs up Ravenna's cell phone. "Eww, gross!" "Well I don't have the luxury of pockets. Now that you know how your D-tector works, and have your phone back, I trust that you can find your way." Salem flies off into the night. "Wait, you've got to help me. Nothing makes sense anymore! Ooh... what's the use?" Ravenna drinks some tea and then gets ready for bed. (Thinking) "I have this weird feeling, that things are just going to keep getting weirder."

Over the next few weeks, Ravenna continued juggling class, track, and time with friends. As well as learning more about Digimon from Kiyoko and Renamon. Its was tough, as practice would go late into the day, so most of Ravenna's free time went towards being with Kiyoko. This was all so strange to her. She had only been living on her own for a while, and she never expected to get wrapped up into something with monsters. She hopes to continue juggling everything, but sooner or later people can slow down when they get burnt out.
Today after practice, Ravenna is with Kiyoko, searching for rogue Digimon in the city. They bide their time on the rooftop, scanning for data signals. Finally Kiyoko's digivice picks something up. "Down there, in the alley." Ravenna nods and raises her d-tector. A spiral of light purple data surrounds her and transforms her into her Psycrowmon form. Renamon lifts Kiyoko up and dashes down to the alley. Ravenna takes off into the skies and swoops down.
They land down and head into the alley. Kiyoko hears something coming from a dumpster. She raises her digivice towards the dumpster and detects a signal, making a few beeping sounds. Ravenna squawks and launches a Psychic Blast at the dumpster. "Show yourself, Digimon." A frazzled raccoon pops up out of the dumpster, rubbing his head. "Oww, what they heck are you thinking?" "Eh? A raccoon? Bhawk!" "Hmm, strange. What are you doing here in the Human World?"
"Well I was eating some leftover pizza, until you rocked my home and made me bump my head." "Sorry..." Ravenna felt bad for hurting the seemingly harmless Digimon. "It was a risk worth taking. You could have been a dangerous Digimon." The raccoon jumps out of the dumpster and prances towards the group. He wipes cheese off of his pawa and offers to shake Kiyoko's hand. "My name is Rabumon." Kiyoko shakes his paw. "Pleased to meet you. I am Kiyoko, and this is Ravenna and Renamon. Now, how did you get to the Human World?"
"Wouldn't you come here to? These Humans leave food laying around everywhere. Most of the Humans in this city as sooooo stupid. Eh heh heh heh heh heh heh." "I take it you are a scavenger then?" "Of course. Just like other raccoons. One day I saw some powerful Digimon in the Digital World, so I followed them. They opened a portal, so I followed them, and here I am." "Well you can't stay here." "Why not?" "He's not really hurting anybody. It's just like having another raccoon in the city." "That's not what's important. What matters is that I cannot allow wild Digimon roaming the city. If we start making exceptions, there's no telling what could happen."

Ravenna disagrees with Kiyoko. What harm was this Digimon doing in the city? "Listen, Kiyoko, I know that we need to protect the city, squawk, but Rabumon isn't going to cause any trouble." "Oh? And what if he steals something? What if someone finds out he's not a normal raccoon?" "Please, don't worry about it. I can look after myself, silly girl." Kiyoko thinks for a moment. Yes, this wasn't a standard rogue Digimon loose in the city. And since Ravenna thinks it will be okay, Kiyoko decides to us this opportunity to test Ravenna's skills.
"I'll tell you what. If you two have a battle, I will let you stay in the city. Sound good?" "A battle? That's crazy." "You mean you want us to fight? Squawk!" "Yes, you need to test your skills in combat. See what a Digimon battle is like, and get use to fighting in that form." "Alright, if you say so." "Now you want me to fight for my freedom? I don't like this girl..." Ravenna and Rabumon have a stand off in the alley. Kiyoko watches on, judging Ravenna's skill and strategy in battle.
Ravenna starts off by flying towards Rabumon and using Peck Attack, pecking at the raccoon with her beak. "Argh, stop that you stupid bird!" Rabumon responds by scratching the Psycrowmon with his claws. Ravenna flies back and gets some distance. "If you get in too close, you open yourself up to attack." Ravenna heeds her advice, and attacks from a distance. Ravenna launches a Psychic Blast towards the raccoon, but he takes off down the alley and climbs up the wall onto the roof of a noodle shop.
Well this was sort of fun. Ravenna hadn't been in a one on one Digimon battle like this. Being a Spirit User was a lot different from being a Tamer, usually out of the danger zone. Ravenna flies over to the rooftop to attack Rabumon. "Nobody messes with Rabumon and gets away with it." Rabumon waves his tail around, creating a puff of smoke. A cartoonish shotgun appears and Rabumon takes it. "BWAHRK?!" "Heh heh heh heh." Rabumon shoots Ravenna with the shotgun, dealing heavy damage.
"Fascinating! Rabumon is not like no Digimon I've ever seen before." "Are you sure Ravenna will be safe? We don't know what else Rabumon is capable of." "Trial by fire, Renamon. Ravenna will never be a strong Spirit User unless she overcomes challenges." Ravenna tries to hold on, but that last attack did a lot of damage. "Argh, what the heck are you thinking?! What kind of raccoon has a shotgun? BWAHRK!" "An awesome one." Even for a first time battle, things were not going well for the young track athlete. Being a crow getting shot at is not her idea of a good time.

Well this was a different side to Digimon than Ravenna was familiar with. Being right in the center of a Digimon battle. Was this really the thing for Ravenna? Fighting wasn't exactly her style, let alone with monsters involved. Ravenna caws and summons a trio of crows to help fight. Rabumon starts shooting at the crows. "Ahhhh, get outta here you stupid birds!" One of the crows goes down. The two crows start pecking at Rabumon, so he bashes one with his shotgun, swinging it like a baseball bat.
With Rabumon distracted by her feathery friends, this is Ravenna's chance. She lets out an ear piercing squawk, disorienting the raccoon. Ravenna flies towards Rabumon and knocks him off the rooftop with a fast strike. Rabumon lands on a pile of garbage bags. "Alright, no more! Oooooohhhh..." "My first victory? Squawk!" "Very well, Ravenna is the winner." Ravenna flies down to Rabumon and returns to her Human form. She reaches down and picks up the injured critter.
"I'm sorry for hurting you. Are you going to be alright?" "Ohh, I'll be fine. Once I get back to my meal, and have a nice nap." So that was a Digimon battle. "Congratulations. How does it feel?" "Strange. There's definitely a lot of adrenalin." "Most battles won't be this easy. Against dangerous opponents, you cannot allow yourself to hold back." Ravenna nods in agreement. "Right!" It's weird, Kiyoko had become a mentor to Ravenna. If it wasn't for her, how would she learn more about these monsters?
"Does that mean I get to stay here?" "Yes. You may stay in the city, so long as you don't get into any trouble. Otherwise I'll send you packing." "Don't worry, I will check up on him from time to time." "Maybe you can bring me some food. I'm getting tired of this cold garbage." "Of course. Hope you like noodles." This had been a productive day, but tomorrow Ravenna has a track meet. It's getting late, and she will need plenty of rest if she's going to bring her A game.
"Is it alright if I get going now? I've got a big meet tomorrow." "Yes. We may not have stopped a dangerous Digimon, but you got to compete in your first battle. Pretty soon, you'll need to go on a hunt to achieve your next form. But that's for another time. Rest up, Ravenna." Kiyoko and Renamon take their leave. Ravenna sets Rabumon down, and the cartoonish raccoon smiles up at the Spirit User. "Brings lots of food next time, please!" Rabumon scurries off into his dumpster to recoup after a sudden battle. Ravenna returns to her dorm and focuses on things like studying and a late dinner before going to bed.

After a long night of tossing and turning, Ravenna wakes up in the morning. Somehow she manages to use enough strength to get herself out of bed and starts getting ready.
"Oww! I'm sore all over. That battle must have roughed me up. Alright, I can't think about Digimon today. I need to focus on the track meet."
Ravenna gets ready and heads off to class. Another boring day of classes, and about 3 hours worth of homework for tonight. Now, finally it's the moment she's been waiting for. Shibuya will be going up against their fiercest rival, a nearby college they unlovingly refer to as Wokou, implying that they are ruthless pirates. Ravenna has heard stories in the locker room about how cutthroat some of their athletes are. The young track star changes into her maroon and white track uniform, and heads to the field.
Ravenna's friend Misty is over by the bleachers talking to some boys. Ravenna recognizes Kyou standing by Misty. When Misty sees Ravenna, she heads over to the team's bench.
"Hey Ray. You ready to kick some butt?"
"I sure hope so. I'm not feeling my best today."
"Well you better suck it up, because those Wokou give no quarter."
Ravenna looks over at the opposing team's bench. She notices a young woman with long blonde hair wearing a blue and white track uniform. Seeing her makes Ravenna's skin crawl.
"Wow, she's pretty hot."
"I know her. We went to high school together."
"Is she good?"
"Hmph. Not as good as me."
Ravenna reaches into her bag and grabs her water bottle to take a sip.
"Eh, sounds like there's some bad blood there. What's the matter? Are you jealous? I'm jealous of those legs."
"Looks are not everything, Misty. Just the only thing you've got going for you, haha."
"Hey! Well, it's nice to see you joking around."
The blonde woman recognizes Ravenna and casually strolls over to them. The other athletes are confused as to why one of the opposing athletes has come over.
"Well, if it isn't my old friend Ravenna. My my, look how much you've grown! Hey there, my name is Cambria."
"Hello Cambria. I love that name. My name is Misty, I'm like Ravenna's bestest friend."
"Cute. Well, good luck today, ladies. Ah hee hee!"
"Nice seeing you again Cambria..."
Cambria jogs back over to her team.
"I don't get why you seem so upset, Ray. She seems nice. And just look at that butt."
"Well trust me, she's not, Mis."
"Miss what?"
"You keep calling me Ray, so I figured I'd give you a cute pet name."
"You can call me anything if we win this meet."
"Hey, you've been acting strange lately. Anything I should know about?"
"Wha, me?! You're the one who totally freaked out when we went out."
"Well between sneaking off every once in a while, and talking about how good Cambria looks, maybe you've got a secret girlfriend you don't want me knowing about."
"Ha! You're funny today, Ra-ven-na... Trust me, I'm all about cute boys, and you'll be the first to know if that changes."
"Just... get ready for the meet."
