Mana felt very happy right now. Why? Because she was in a festival, of course! Currently, both Ryouta and her were strolling by the streets of Whitewater, contemplating everything that the small celebration had to offer. Lots of food, lots of games, and lots of interesting sights!
The girl had to admit that, despite not knowing what a Harvest Festival was about and if it was anything like a Japanese traditional festival, she had been really excited to attend. And, of course, about inviting her boyfriend! There was so much to have, and who better than Ryo to share it.
And so, that's why they found themselves walking by in the evening of Whitewater, the orange glow of the sun painting the buildings just as night began to make its way through the sky. The couple was walking with relaxed motions, hands held and fingers interlocked. The redhead currently wore a radiant smile and... an orange yukata, of course. Traditional garbs made the whole ordeal all the better.
"So, what are we gonna do first? Food, games? Or just strolling around until we decide? I'm up to anything!"
Her happiness almost bordered the contagious. Hopefully her boyfriend was having a good time too and wasn't here just because he had been dragged around.
Ryouta smiled at Mana, hands linking together. Mana in yukata is quite nice actually. It made him... amazed? "Anytime, Mana," he told her, truly feeling happy for a rare occasion. His usually sharp eyes softened when she's around. Today, Ryouta is wearing an informal hakama. Speaking of which, he wondered why harvest festival in the whitewater? Shouldn't it be somewhere like in Terminus or around there? He can't help but to think something like that, but at the same time, he guessed that it's probably related to good catch. Hmmm, a Digital World version of harvest festival, eh...
"Lessee, if you want, maybe we can grab some snack first, something that we can hold with one hand and then plays some game?"
There are lot of standard summer festival games here... he was rather surprised. Ryouta bought a fox mask, modeled after Taomon to wear, just because he's in mood to. Checking around, he could see lot of stalls selling foods... other than that, sniping gallery, ball toss, cookie carving and the most traditional one is the goldfish catching---hey wait, they're not for keeping but instead to be eaten!? Not to mention due to catering Digimons, most of the stalls are huge sized!
Food was it, then! Even if this was a somewhat risky endeavor, considering that she didn't know if the food in here would taste like the food in the Human World, that's the very reason that made Mana excited. She'd have probably grabbed Ryouta and made a run for it if... well, first off, his boyfriend hadn't became more than she could carry without an enormous amount of effort, and... because she'd never get used to wooden sandals, no matter how much she tried to put them on.
"Alright, what do you want to me to bring you? Takoyaki? Ikayaki? Corn? Or maybe candied apples! I think I'll have Ikayaki first! The smell over there is just delicious!"
Said and done, she just went over there and got some food for the two of them; while it seemed the Ryo'd probably eat a lot more than her given his new size, she could always go back in case he wanted to.
"It looks really good, doesn't it? Almost as good as the food back home, I gotta say!" She took a bite of her squid, realizing pretty soon that the fact that it was steaming meant that it was hot. Really hot. Not enough for a burnt tongue, but more than enough for her to shuffle around nonsensically.
"Ifhs hooot!" She called out, even admitting to herself that she was probably looking ridiculous right now. "Buf ifhs defhifous fhoo!"
"Hey, hey, no need to be so excited~" he lightly scolded her, but from his voice she would know that he's actually as excited as she is, but probably keep himself rather reserved to maintain the image. If a boy this scarred and as built as him somehow just like that goes around nearly prancing like her, wouldn't that be a bit embarrassing? But there's another reason for that. Today was their first official date for long. Oh well, that doesn't matter for now. What matter is that they should enjoy whatever the stall gave them. "I'd take Ikayaki then," he told her. To his surprise, she took a big one for him. He can't help but to chuckle at that display of thoughtfulness.
"Thanks Mana. It does smells great!"
His laugh gets even cheerier when she somehow ends up looking ridiculous after taking a bite. He can't help but to blew the grilled squid she's holding. "Geez, Mana~ You're just way too excited aren't you?" he asked, then took a bite of his own. Yet he did the same blunder although he scolded his girlfriend like that! Indeed, it's not enough to burn his tongue, but still, he blew it inside his mouth all the same before swallowing it.
"...And lesson's learned... never scold the Mana and laugh at her, also don't get too mesmerized by her cuteness otherwise the karma would struck," he said, sticking out his tongue. For a while, he looked as if those scars that adorned his face is just a mere cosmetics for how different he is from the usual brooding him before they met and dated like this.
"Still, this squid's big, though," he muttered. Well, no sludge Sherlock, knowing that it's made for Adult Digimon afterall. "If you don't have enough just yet, do you want to share?"
When the hotness subsided, Mana swallowed, looking relieved afterwards. Phew.
"Hey, that's really mean of you, you know? Well, the food's pretty good!" After taking another bite and not falling in the same trap yet again, she smiled. "A huge, mean dork, in fact! That's why you got what was coming to you!"
She mirrored Ryouta's gesture, sticking her tongue at him too. "Never scold cute girls, that should be number one rule in your book, you know!" She giggling softly at her own words. It was funny how the bantering got so natural between them. "And I'll consider it, after I'm done with mine, that is!"
She wasn't really a fast eater, and while that first bite had been on an impulse, she intended to savor her food before getting to eat more, of course.
"It's kinda funny how our first festival together is in the Digital World, don't you think?" She suddenly said, somewhat pensively. "And after all this time, to boot! We should've started doing this earlier! Well, not that we had the chance, but still...!"
None of that didn't matter when the two of them were together, right? As sickeningly romantic as that sounded, she concluded on that being... mostly alright.
"So that's why we're going to play some games now! To the shooting booth we go!" After that small moment of thoughtfulness, the excitement and happiness returned to her face.
Hurrying as fast as the traditional dress allowed her, the redhead once moved again, extremely happy to see one of her favorite festival appliances; cork guns, of course!
"Wanna bets who gets more targets in ten shots? I'm going to wreck you so hard!" A small pause, before the smirk on her face grew even wider. "In fact. Wanna bet something?"
"At least I can get cute reaction from you," he answered, stroking her head and gave her a moment squeeze with an arm, but made sure to not do it strongly. Afterall, he has grown considerably much stronger now. "Actually, the number one rule is 'tease the girl you like', that should be in ANY boy's books. Go ask Yuu. He'll confirm this later. Anyway, if you need one more later, I'll buy slightly bigger size for two of us, maybe?" he took another chomp at his squid. It does tastes nice. Luckily this one is only the body part though... But to think that this squid is almost half as tall as him, just how scary Digital World is?
"...First festival together is in Digital World? Well, actually not sure if this is the first festival... unless you mean Matsuri then yeah. But I mean, we also did Halloween together back then, right?" he titled his head, and then strokes her cheek. "But yeah, I don't mind that the slightest when we did it now, I mean, now is probably much better because it's safer for the world... Remember what we've gone through? Deva, Charles... stuff."
He handed her some tissue just in case to wipe her mouth,
Shooting booth, huh? He need to make sure that the noise-drowning sound will be extra loud just in case, but suddenly Mana proposed something interesting. Ryouta's eyes looked at her sharply, like a predator finding a challenge from an equal.
"I see, so a challenge, eh..." a smirk also spreads on his face. "...Alright, what about if I win, I'll kiss you three times of the difference between our score, sounds nice?"
Mana's expression became a bit... strange, in all honesty. She wasn't sure how to feel about Ryo's comment, but she almost felt forced to respond.
"Yeaaaaaaah, not exactly the calmest til' now, but that only makes me worry a bit, y'know? I mean, people always say it's the calmest before a storm, and that makes me worry a bit. Hopefully I'm wrong, though!" "Fine, if I win, however, you'll have to piggyback me when I get tired from using these things. I swear, wooden sandals are the worst thing ever. Hopefully you'll live to your end of the promise, Ryo-kun~"
In all honesty, it almost sounded like he wanted to lose, given that Mana's taunt had been pretty obvious, but... was she in a position to complain? Of course she wasn't!
Or maybe, Ryo had forgotten that she was really good at finesse and precision given, well... that being the setters of her volleyball team meant just that. In any case...
"At your mark. Ready when you are." The ten corks were placed on a neat row in front of them. Taking the first, she adjusted it to her rifle and took aim at a nearby target.
It wouldn't even be a warm up for her, in all honesty. Ten shots, ten times straight to the bullseye. Her concentration hadn't let her look at Ryou's result, even if she was sure that in the best case, it'd be a tie.
"Pretty good, huh? What're you gonna do about it, Ryo-kun?"
"There's also calm AFTER storm," he said, smiling. Probably he's being very optimistic, but he only can reassure her that it'll be fine this time around. Both of them are strong, stronger than back then and seriously packed some punch if they needed. However at the same time, what she said also bothered him significantly. His grip on Mana's hand momentarily strengthened, sending her sentiment that he really don't want to be separated from her.
"You shouldn't wear it that way to begin with," Ryouta said. "You should give yourself some space from the strings to avoid blisters. You should pick smaller size from your shoe size so that your heels actually 'floating' out. Yeah, it's tiring, but much better than having blisters. Blisters are the worst. My sisters often cried because of that."
He smiled though as the corks are set in front of them. Actually, he really don't want to lose, but Mana's doing better than him. If this is darts, it'll be tie, but compared to it, this one is a bit harder, mainly... because to get profit, these guns are gimmicked. He shoot once... it hits, but not in bullsye. He shoot again, missing it by a centimeter. Now, at this rate, he can feel it. He can feel how to hit the bullseye. He shoot again and again, the rest of the eight is on the center.
"Yaaaay~! Ryo-kun lost to his superior opponent. Get destroyed, mate!"
Of course, Mana wasn't being that serious about this. Wrecking her boyfriend felt nice, however.
"Now, I'll proceed to carry this loser away from his shame, let's go!" Now she felt excited enough to try and drag Ryo around, even if she could already feel her feet being somewhat sore. But they had no time to lose! The night was now really obvious in the sky, and that meant that the fireworks would begin so... they had to be on the best place to observe them.
Obviously, that place was the beach.
"It's kind of sad that the fireworks will begin so soon, you know, because..." They also marked the end of the festival, or at least of most of it. "But I had a really good time! I kinda missed hanging out with you, you know? Never get lost again!"
That remark had, even if mostly teasing, had a hue of seriousness Mana couldn't really get rid off, but... best to move on to other topics.
"You know, maybe next time we can even come with big sis' and Haru-nee and Yuuki-chan and Karin-nee! That'd make things even more fun, don't you think?"
Well, they were on the beach now. Mana's eyes focused on finding a good spot that wasn't already taken for them to take a seat and enjoy the spectacle. Luckily, she found an empty bench rather soon, and after pointing at it, she began to walk towards it.
He pouted, playfully of course, just so Mana could gloat more about her victory, but at the same time, he ruffled her hair and smiled. "Yeah, yeah, drown in your victory before I have to lift you because your feet is hurting, girl," he joked, lightly poking her cheek. There's no use of poking her on her ribs. Her nerves might be made of steel afterall, considering that she never once laughed when tickled.
"Kay kay, no need to drag me like that, champ," he joked, but regardless offered next to no resistance, and even let her guide him to the place she desired.
"Well, even if the fireworks is here, we still can buy some foods and enjoys ourselves. Supposedly it should be in waves, you know? Even if we're not in hurry, it should be fine..." he looked at the squid on his hand. "Though, I still have an Ikayaki with me. Wanna share?"
He only can smile at her remark. "Well, I've lost once, I won't lose anymore.... one alone is already enough anyway..." he opened his bag and looked at the content, where a floral pattern egg is there. "...Plus she'll probably scold the hell outta me if I got lost in her watch yet again."
Albeit so, he only can sputter when she calls Yuuki Yuuki-chan. "...Seriously, Mana, if there's someone who I wouldn't call with -chan, it's Yuuki, no matter how old we are. His reaction going to be really priceless, but he'll sure to tsukkomi you so hard on that remark."
Of course Mana'd bask on her victory. He had totally annihilated Ryo, no questions asked whatsoever. Just. Totally. Wrecked. And he couldn't do anything about it. Well, except poking her cheek, that is.
When invited with some his Ikayaki's remnants, however, she just took a pretty sizable munch out of it.
"Champs don't ask for permission!" She said cheekily, munching into the squid with gusto. She'd seize her temporary status as much as she could.
She looked a bit puzzled at Ryo's comments, but ended up shrugging. Especially when he said that Yuuki was not fit to be called with the suffix -chan.
"Well, you know! I still have that photo when I had to carry him piggyback because the sleepyhead was just too unconscious to wake up! At least give me some credit!" That little event was a really powerful bargaining chip, at least in the girl's mind. "I wonder if Karin-nee already saw it; I remember not showing that picture to her, even though I did show it to you. Her reaction's surely gonna be priceless!" Well, if she hadn't reacted towards it as of yet.
Right, the fireworks! Once the two were on seated on the bench, Mana began to gaze at the sky expectantly. As her comparably small hand was placed just on top of Ryouta's, the first firework was heard, making the night sky shine with bright colors.
"So pretty!" She immediately called out, in utter delight. As the colorful show went on, however, her eyes shifted her focus towards him, giving him a significant look. "Thank you for coming with me, Ryo. I really enjoyed it."
The redhead pulled him closer, just as she leaned towards him...
She blinked in surprise at the distinct squid taste, but ended up shrugging and giggling as she went on. Oh well, it still felt great. [Exit] Bits, please~
"Hey champ, basking in that is fine and all, but I'm sooo going to punch you on the lips... with my lips!" he joked, acting as if he's turning violent. He rose an eyebrow at the comment about Yuuki. "Last time I heard, she's still amused at it, but Yuuki is feeling meh about it. I guess that he doesn't think of it that much either. I mean, He seriously would think of it as least his problem at the moment due to all the plan he have to plan ahead of the time to ensure that we'll enjoy this prolonged peace."
To be honest, Ryouta's eyes never aimed at the fireworks. It's always glancing at his beloved girlfriend. The moment that she turned to him, his face turned red momentarily, but his hand unconsciously goes to her hair and starts playing with it, just like old times. He laughed and nodded at her thank. "No worries... Actually, I'll be much happier if you stay with me, but someone going to protest at me when Koharu is currently locked in her room with all the manga drawing she's currently doing and is in hermit mode."
He was a bit surprised at the kiss, but kissed her back lovingly, savoring the taste of her lips. Who cares if it's squiddish? At least it's Mana's lips.
"Well then Mana, shall I walk you back home? Or should we begin our feast party~?" he joked. Actually, he's starving! And he's pretty sure that Mana is too... considering that her stomach would growl really loudly when it's hungry. Better satisfy it before it growl! Bits too here please.
