Digital World 101 Taken to Spartan Way [Colin]
|
Post by ryouta on Oct 29, 2016 14:58:30 GMT
Inside the Trailmon, Ryouta only sat in front of Colin while looking at the scenery. After the travel to the Digital World and ended up in Terminus, Ryouta bought several items: A camping set, several pairs of clothes for the two boys, several canned foods and cooking utensils. Colin might have a question of why they seem need to camp, but Ryouta only say "because this training would be long. Plus, imagine this: Digital World time moves in seven times speed from real world, so we can spend about a day here and you'll be back three hours later"
Now, after that, they took another Trailmon that goes to the Spartan Training Ground.
"It's called Spartan Training Ground, but where we go to, it'll be actually quite close to there, to an abandoned training ground. It'll be smaller, but it should be good for both of us. So we'll be training there, hoping that no one gonna disturb us..."
And so, Ryouta, without minding the luggage that looks as if it's nearing 100--no, 120kg in total, carried them as if they're a school backpack on his back the moment the Trailmon stopped on the specific direction he specified. There, there's indeed a small field, but mostly deserted and is currently covered with weeds.
"So... Colin, I'll ask you something crucial," Ryouta suddenly said. He crouched on ground near the perimeter of the training ground and made the camp, probably in a really trained way. Before long, he already managed to set it up, a big tent for about four people. "At this point, do you want to train to survive, or would you just want to have fun in here?"

So... this was why so little time had passed in his time on the digital world. Time apparently moved seven times faster in this world of data. So that's why they were going with camping gear. Colin had felt a little shocked at first to see it, but he did the calculations in his head.
If two days passed in the digital world, that would only amount to about six hours on Earth, which by coincidence was probably the amount of time he had left before his parents got worried. That was good, he could learn heaps of things in that amount of time.
As he sat on the train, watching the scenery go by, his twin partners Luke and Bellamy were sleeping on his lap. Gosh they were so cute, snuggled up with their soft fur like this. The two of them had had quite a busy day so far. And they'd need a bit of rest for the training up ahead.
They transferred Trailmons at the Terminus station, then seemed to be heading toward a forested part of the digital world. Colin was impressed, everything looked so real, yet, it wasn't. At least in a physical sense. All this world around him was somehow data. He hoped to learn so much more about this place.
Ryouta explained that they were heading toward a Training ground, but would be abandoned. "Okay..." Colin said, unsure of what to think of that. He was a little more occupied with exactly how heavy Ryouta's bag looked, and how he was carrying as though it weighed little more than a bag full of schoolbooks. Wow.
Then Ryouta asked a crucial question as he set up the camp - if he wanted to do this for fun, or if he wanted to do this to learn how to survive.
Colin considered his answer carefully. He looked down at Luke and Bellamy, who were looking up expectantly at him. He had learned quite a bit about them in their short time together, how the twin brothers used to live lives as best friends, but were killed in battle. And they had somehow... been reborn. Apparently digimon had the ability to do that. Obviously dying wasn't a pleasant experience at all.
And Colin didn't want to disappoint them. Of course he didn't want to die or just do this for fun. He knew how important this was - how Luke and Bellamy's smiles faded as they spoke about how they lost everything they had before.
"I want to learn how to survive" Colin said eventually. "I want these guys to have a good partner... so I'd like to learn how to be one".
"...Thanks, Colin" Luke said, the Wanyamon smiling up at him.
"Yeah, you're the best, pal" Bellamy said, both of the twins looking delighted.

Suddenly, a bright flash of light came out from Ryu, and before Ryouta could say anything else, and before long, a sword already pointing at Colin's neck. Slayerdramon, the tall Ultimate Digimon already standing there, his eyes locked unto the boy.
"...First, get used to the sense of danger, I want you to know whether this is dangerous or not," the other boy's voice came from the place where he's setting the tent. To normal people who might not know about killing intent, it's probably a sword filled with desire to kill. There are however, very fundamental difference between threatening for sure and threatening without the intent to kill. The one that Ryu did is completely the latter. He's threatening without the desire to carry it on.
Ryouta walked to Colin and pat his shoulder after looking at his reaction for a while. "...Well, to begin with, this might be too jerk of a move. I'm sorry, but I've seen actual death in front of my eyes. Was it a Digimon's? No, it was worse. It's humans. Human dies in this world if they're not careful. Me included. Human's fear should be all essentially the same: death. What sort of human doesn't fear death? I only think of those with few screw loose."
He raised a hand and Ryu lowered his sword. "...Hey pal," Ryu called out weakly. "Sorry, it's distasteful for me, too, but I was there in that fight, and let me just say, I can't protect anyone there. It was one of my biggest regret. That's why... even if it's just one kid, Colin... I want you to survive. Survive and be strong."
Ryouta nodded. "Well, with that being said, I'll have you three train here, we'll cover the basic for about two days. If you're a partnered human, you should have this," he took out a D-Terminal. "Give me your contact address, and if you want to train anytime after this, I'll give you more training. Look, I might be really really really strict on this, but it's also for your sake. I wouldn't even promise that I won't train you until you drop."
Ryouta glanced at Ryu who spares no time to cut a tree and start making some training tools from it. First are several logs that looks like they could be stepped on with various sizes, another are some dumbbells that seem to be weight about 15kg, and other.
"Before we begin training, you should calm yourself down and ask me anything you'd like to know... and if that clothes bothered you, go change into something easier to move."

It all happened so fast that Colin didn't register what happened properly. It seemed after a tumultuous series of flashing lights and fire, he suddenly had a sword to his throat. He had no idea what was happening. He could hear Luke screaming "STOP!! STOP!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!!" and Bellamy shouting the same, both of the twins furiously leaping up in front of him as though they were trying to defend him, but the Slayerdramon was too big.
Colin then gradually realized what was happening. His body was frozen in shock. He tried to say something, but his mouth couldn't move. He wanted to ask what was going on and what he had done to deserve this threatening gesture.
Was it a test? That seemed to make the most sense. Colin could feel his heart beating rapidly as adrenaline pulsed through his body. He finally seemed to be able to recover from the shock and take a step backward. Had he not somewhat come to trust Ryouta and Ryu in this past hour or so, he would have run away completely. But they didn't seem to be doing anything malicious.
"I... don't think this is a real threat" Colin answered. "I mean... it makes no sense... if you wanted to hurt me".
It was simple logic. Like how he sometimes got into scuffles with Riku and Sophie, it wasn't because they hated him or wanted to hurt him, it was just... things that happened. And if Ryu really did want to hurt him, there had been ample opportunity.
Then it was explained that Ryouta had seen other humans die in this world. Colin nodded slowly. So... this was how powerful a digimon could get. Ryu was no longer a cute dragon but a huge armored beast, emanating energy so powerful it was almost suffocating. Colin was simply too stunned to fully comprehend the full power of a digimon, but, over time, it would be something he would dwell on.
Then the sword was lowered. Colin felt somewhat relieved, shivering from the experience. Bellamy calmed down too, but Luke was somewhat angry.
"Please... don't you ever do that again" Luke said to Ryu. "That was not cool. I know it's a horrible world, but, I don't like being scared like that by people I want to be friends with, and... I don't want Colin to be hurt. Ever."
The Wanyamon hadn't liked it at all, feeling so overwhelmed and powerless. But Bellamy comforted him with a friendly nuzzle. He calmed down.
Then Ryouta said that the training wouldn't be easy, then got out his D-Terminal to exchange details. Colin did the same, taking out his own D-Terminal. "Alright..." he said, and wrote down his cellphone number and how he could be contacted.
Colin had found his digivice and D-Terminal on his person earlier on that day when he agreed to be Bellamy and Luke's partner. Although he still didn't know how they worked completely. He hoped he'd be able to learn.
"Don't worry, Ryouta, I've had sports coaching" Colin said, giving a nervous smile. "I've been driven to exhaustion before"
While true, he found that times after strenuous training sessions made him a little bit more vulnerable to becoming sick afterward. He hoped that wouldn't happen this time.
He looked down at his clothes, still wearing the blue T-Shirt, grey jacket and tan cargo pants he was wearing earlier. "Um... well, if you've got a pair of shorts, that'd be great" Colin said, not really wanting this outfit to get dirty from training.

"Yeah," Ryouta answered, satisfied from that answer, but guilt is very clear in his voice. "There's honestly nothing of interest in me to kill someone. I don't understand how psychopath works, or homicidal person for that matter, but we're not one of those. It doesn't makes sense either when we're readying some camp, right?" He understood how scary it must be for Colin, but poor boy have to start reading the situation, and this time, he passes with flying colors. "Good job, but don't get too used to this sensation. Actually, you should understand about types of danger instead of being used to danger. If your body is too used to danger and laugh, then you're going to lose no matter what."
He chuckled mirthlessly at Luke's scolding though. "Sorry about that, Luke. If you want to blame someone, blame me. I'm who told him to do it, and honestly, he's right. The last thing I want is to see someone die... or hear someone die in here. You might think 'isn't it better to ignore people, then?' I'd say that my conscience is completely against it. It's a bad humor on my part, and you're right to get angry."
Ryu returned back to his normal Dracomon form. "...Anyway, that was Ultimate stage," Ryouta continued while Ryu started to juggled his balls to make sure that he stayed calm after all of that fiasco. The poor Dracomon must be still shaky doing it to completely nice guys. It's indeed very annoying for him and he wished he wouldn't have to do that again, because he also want to befriend the three. "Believe me, if you... think that was the highest, think again. There's a stage even higher than that. I won't show you today... and I honestly hope that I won't show that to you anytime. Because when that time came, I'm sure that there will be a mountain or two that gonna get wiped out. When you got to that point, I think it'll take more than just a single country worth of firearms to stop you... actually, if you got to the point where you're damn strong, well... even conquering a human world is an easy deal. But it's not that easy," as Ryouta said that, he rubbed his scars.
He sat on the ground and pointed at the bag. "There are about two days worth of changing clothes there. When you return to real world, why don't you take 'em with you? Think it as my present or something... Well, for now, go change your clothes, then do some warmups. Digimons, you, too, do some warmups with him. I'll strengthen your foundation a bit then we'll move to combat practice."

"Uh... right" said Colin, as Ryouta explained that he needed to recognize the various types of danger. Of course he wouldn't laugh at a serious situation, he wasn't an idiot, or cocky like that. However... he glanced at Bellamy, hoping the cocky Yaamon was listening too.
"Eh, I know that look, don't worry, I won't take threats against ya not seriously" Bellamy said as he noticed him. Luke nodded as well, these two digimon did not want to die again any time soon.
Colin was astonished that that wasn't even the highest level a digimon could go. "Wait, they can get even more powerful?!" he asked. "What if a bad one comes to Earth? Do DATS have things strong enough to stop them?" there were so many possibilities with that. What if a really bad human had a digimon partner that could reach the strongest level and bring them to Earth? He hoped there was something in place that could stop such a thing from happening.
Maybe... that was why he was chosen? Colin thought of himself as a good person, and if he could help Bellamy and Luke get that powerful, maybe they were the ones that were meant to defend against such threats?
Then Ryouta said there were enough clothes in to last him two days. He nodded thankfully. The clothes were a bit bigger than he was used to as he got changed, but the shorts had drawstrings and he preferred exercising in loose fitting shirts anyway. He was ready on the training ground, loosening himself up with stretches.
"Um... how are we meant to warm up?" Luke asked, having no limbs on him to stretch.
"Er... I think we do it with our ears?" Bellamy suggested, stretching his ears as far as they would go, but it didn't work. "Eh, let's just bounce for a bit"
"Okay" said his twin brother, and the two digimon decided to just bounce on the spot for a bit, hoping that would suffice for a "warm-up".

"Yeah, they can go even more powerful, I can go even more powerful," Ryouta said, shrugging his shoulders. "First, I dunno what's answer for that. I never really understood the hierarchy among that organization either. I only know that someone was part of it, and you can technically enter it, but that's that. I don't have any sort of news other than that. Now... honestly though I have no idea of the details, but one of the real world area was destroyed due to fight between Digimons, if I recall it correctly... I don't think it's of SU, though... The damage's too small to be called fight between those."
He scratched his head. "Well, you two can just hop there, yeah, sorry about being unclear, but don't hop too much otherwise you'll get tired easily... now. Ryu, give them one of your ball each."
"Aye aye aniki!" he approached both Bellamy and Luke and rolled one of his ball to two of them. "Let's see... I want you to balance yourself on top of this. Don't relax yourself and somehow ended up 'sitting' on the ball, OK? I want you to 'stand' on the ball. It'll be a bit hard, but then again, this will serve as a good foundation training temporarily. Balance are important! No matter how big and strong you are, if your footing is really bad, you'll fall splendidly!"
Ryouta turned to Colin now. "As for you, I'd like to see just how good you are in physical tests. First I want you to run for five laps around this area, then take a bit break. We'll continue with jump and tossing. Sounds good?"

Colin scratched his head as he tried to make sense of all this. There was already a fight broken out on Earth? Geez, well, he'd best get his head around all this and learn about how to be a good partner so that Luke and Bellamy would be able to put a stop to that sort of thing. Although if "SU" level digimon fought, it would be the equivalent of Nuclear War. This was very worrying.
Luke and Bellamy meanwhile blinked as Ryu told them that they were meant to "stand" on top of the balls, rather than "sit".
"Um... I'm not sure if you noticed, dragon-boy, but neither of us have legs!" Bellamy said, the Yaamon bouncing a bit indignantly. "There ain't no difference between sitting and standing!"
"Er... do you mean like this?" Luke asked, and hopped onto the ball. It was hard enough as it was to keep balance, and he soon fell off, rolling a few feet in front of Colin.
"Bah, three seconds?! I can beat that!" Bellamy snapped, and hopped onto his own ball. "See? Nothin' to it, and... ack!" he only lasted one extra second before falling off. "Geez! What the heck are these made of? Some sorta frictionless silk?!"
As the digimon struggled with their balance, Colin listened to Ryouta's instructions. "Sure, I can do that" he said, thinking that five laps was fair. He'd be careful not to sprint though, just keeping a steady pace as he jogged around the field.
Then he was ready for the next part.

Ryu only can chuckle about how the two did it, but they're not exactly wrong. By sitting, he meant relaxing on the ball and that means their body shape would follow the ball's shape, so it would be rather meaningless if he told them to cling on the ball. Now, in the case of standing, that's harder. Ryu did gave his ball, but it's the type that supposed to slid off the hand so quickly, because he's to used to the normal ball, so it applies the same in here. It's not as frictionless as one would thought, but it's definitely have very low friction potential.
"Well, that's hard isn't it? Go on ahead and continue! Next time I'll probably even have you to balance with a ball on your head~?" he joked.
Ryouta seem to understand his potential. Not sprinting but jogging? That's fine. Tomorrow it'll be very harsh sprinting though. "...If possible, not in the morning, but everytime you're going home from school, try to take the longer route and start jogging," he said, nodding. "Next, you'll jump five times and I'll measure the distance each time you jumped..."
...Speaking of which, he's actually still being lenient, but will there be time where finally the twins would consent their human to somehow faces... slightly more dangerous training?
"After that, tossing. I want to see just good are your aims and how far it can goes."

Luke tried again with balancing on the ball. And to Bellamy's shock, he actually managed to hold himself there that time.
"Hah! I'm doing it!" Luke announced proudly. Bellamy raised an eyebrow, then bounced around to the other side. What he saw made him puff up with indignance.
"Luke you bumbag, you're not allowed to use your tail!" he snapped, and knocked Luke's tail off balance. The Wanyamon gave a yelp and fell down.
"Hey!" Luke complained, although he did feel a little guilty for cheating. He tried again, but it was quite hard. However, eventually, after several attempts, the Wanyamon was able to keep some sort of balance. He did so by raising his tail in the air, using it as a sort of balancing beam for himself. Bellamy didn't begrudge him using it like that, although all the Yaamon had was his ears.
However... it wasn't so hard using it like that after all. He found if he moved his ears around at exactly the right moment, they could act as a counterbalance for whichever direction he was falling in. It was better than nothing at the very least.
Eventually, Luke and Bellamy could hold their balance for at least ten seconds.
"Er... maybe not with the ball on the head thanks" Bellamy said to Ryu. That would put him at a disadvantage since he wouldn't be able to balance with his ears anymore.
Colin meanwhile wasn't an idiot. He knew that if he exhausted himself by sprinting at full speed around the training ground first up, he would not only exhaust himself very quickly, but make any further training extremely dangerous for his immediate health. And he saw no hospitals in this vicinity. That would have to be the last exercise in a training regime before rest. If Ryouta demanded he started sprinting that sort of distance, then Colin would in turn demand that training be stopped. He was no marathon runner.
After taking a short break from his jogging, taking a drink of water, Colin then began to practice long jumping, using a pile of sand in the training field to soften his landings. Now this was harder. He hadn't trained for this, and so his first one was barely longer than Bellamy or Luke would have managed.
"Er, I'll try again" Colin said. He took a bit of effort to prepare his muscles, then he made a sprint toward the sand pile, then leapt much further. Not nearly at the professional athlete distance, but a bit better than before.
He repeated three more times, and by the end, needed a break, taking a long drink of water. He wondered what was next.
"You said tossing, right?" Colin asked. "What am I going to be throwing?"

Ryu only can laugh, but decide to give his juniors some motivation. He put a slightly bigger of the same ball on the ground and stand on it... with one feet of course. with both felt like some sort of punishment. Now, his tail probably helped on that, but it doesn't change the fact that he's standing there just fine, albeit probably slightly shaky. Now, he's sure that he can hold this for a bit more, so he put a ball on his snout and somehow balancing it like a seal.
"The second part... is totally not needed, and actually would be just fine if you stay with the first part. Afterall, we're not some acrobatic class. Anyway, let's see... how about if you can hold more than 10 seconds we goes to the next training? Also... That actually the right way to do it! What your body have is actually what we should treasure and use as good as we can!"
Ryouta whistled at the second try, but it does indeed looks good.
"...Looking good, kiddo! Relax a bit while I get to that point."
Ryouta took some pebbles there, one with considerable weight and start wrapping it with dirty looking fabric that looked slightly like bandage, only actually more to mummy bandage than a normal bandage. After a while he managed to make about ten of them.
"Ryu! Go ahead and make some target!"
"OK!"
Ryu started to draw a perfect target circle on the tree, giving it scores. Meanwhile, Ryouta measured the distance between the tree and the tossing point, then draw a line.
"...Well, then, before Ryu done, let's talk a bit. Are you OK so far kid?" he asked, smiling. "If it gets a bit too rough for you physically, best speak now. I'll reduce the training intensity... after this, you can go ahead and rest for a while, then we'll continue with some exploration."

Bellamy and Luke stared when they noticed Ryu stand on one foot on a ball, resting another on his nose.
"Oh my god I wanna have arms and legs already!" Bellamy whined with indignation. Well... it was to be expected, he guessed, he had only hatched yesterday. But already he was feeling a small list of accomplishments piling up. He and his brother had found a partner first up, and going by how enthusiastically Colin was tackling his training, a damn good one too.
"Alrighty..." Luke said, and by now he was getting the hang of it, managing to balance himself on the ball carefully. Bellamy did the same, the two of them swaying on top of the balls for a moment, but managing in the end to stay on for at least fifteen seconds before it all became too much for them. Phew, who would have thought it would be so much work?
Colin meanwhile watched what he was going to be tossing. He looked curiously at the rocks. Was he meant to throw those? Then Ryouta put them in bandages. Wait what... Oh! He was making slings!
"So I'm meant to throw these like hammers, eh?" Colin asked. He was kind of excited to do that, he had never done the Hammer Throw sport, and was rather eager to try.
As Ryu made some targets, Ryouta asked if Colin was handling his training well yet.
"I guess so..." Colin said, swinging his arms to warm them up. "Although after this I'll probably need a break". By now his clothes were damp with sweat.
So then, he'd be tossing rocks this way? It would probably be useful. Colin picked up the first sling, swung it hard, and released it... the rock missed the tree entirely.
"Er... oops" Colin said as the rock went crashing past through the forest. He picked up the second... this one hit the tree, but outside the target. Gradually, he was getting near to the middle, but never actually hit it. But at least all three of his last shots hit the tree.
"Phew... okay... I'm done" Colin said, surprised at how much his upper body was exhausted by now. Wow, being a digimon partner was exhausting work. Hopefully Luke and Bellamy were going alright.

Hehe, Ryu grinned and gave the two thumb up. "Nice job you two! Now rest for a while and let's continue the training for a bit. The next one is much easier but probably needs concentration..." he pointed at the logs that now embedded on the ground. The size is as big as probably exactly their size. "You're going to jump on top of these log in zig zag manner for a while until you get used to it."
Counting from the first one, there are about ten logs on both side, which means if going zigzag, there's ten steps each until the end. Each logs also within reasonable distance, enough for both child and baby stage to jump on, albeit prolly with some exerting.
"So your training now is to hop on this for five laps, but here's the catch! You need to do it at the same time, without pausing until the end! If you're tired midway, you're allowed to pause on the center, which is the fifth step you take! This training is to make sure you coordinate yourselves properly as twins! Of course many said that they didn't need it, but slipups often happened where your coordination will be really tested. Once you're done, take a rest and we'll repeat on different way, OK?"
Ryouta only watched and nodded, smiling at the result. Not bad for the first try, eh? He gave Colin some sort of energy drink and sat right beside the boy, passing him a towel. "Dry your upper body first... and hey, do you know why I'm giving you all this training? Do you have any sort of idea as of WHY am I giving this sort of training? I mean, what sort of condition that needs this sort of training?"

So then, their next task involved bouncing from log to log, eh? The twin digimon looked at the course curiously.
"Ohh, okay, so we're practising bouncing while rapidly changing direction so that an opponent can't track our trajectory easily" said Luke.
"...I have no idea what you just said" Bellamy said, looking at his brother suspiciously, then smiled. "But at least ya sound like you know what you're doing!" It must have been one of Luke's old memories that triggered him saying that. Which was good, at least one of them saw the point to this exercise.
So then, there was nothing more for it than to try. Bellamy and Luke got ready, then proceeded. Bellamy was way faster, bouncing confidently from log to log, until the sixth when he overestimated his bounce and fell off, giving a yelp as he rolled on the grass, grumbling all the while.
Then Luke had a go, and he was far too careful, taking too long to calculate each jump. He reached the tenth eventually though.
"That's no good, you've gotta be faster than that!" Bellamy called out to him. "Get back here and keep up with me!"
"No, you've gotta slow down and keep pace with me" Luke answered. Bellamy huffed, he could see the point that it was no use arguing.
"Fine, I slow down and you speed up, alright?" Bellamy asked.
"Right" Luke agreed. They returned to their starting positions and tried again. This time unfortunately Luke was the one to overexert himself, and he fell off the seventh log. But he was grateful that Bellamy waited for him to get back on so they could complete the lap.
Ryouta meanwhile gave Colin an energy drink, which he drank gratefully. He then asked why he thought he was being given this sort of training.
"Well..." Colin said, thinking on his reply. "You said the digital world is a dangerous place, right? That means... uh... I have to rely on my own physical ability to survive don't I?" he asked. "I mean... if I mess up and there's nobody out there to help me, that's it, right? No matter how exhausted or not I am"
At least that's what made sense in Colin's mind. That was the purpose of this exercise, right? For him to learn how to survive, thus he'd have to build up some sort of physical ability for him to do so.

Hmmm, as he thought, even when they're twins, their synergy is a bit bad for now. Ryu just watched as they tried, but said nothing. He actually expected them to headbumps to one another, but this is indeed different from his prediction. The small dragon felt rather amused at their antics, but as expected, Luke is very careful while Bellamy is reckless. Now he know how to make tomorrow's training more interesting.
"Keep it up you two! If you're tired, go rest at the end! Give me another two laps and go take a break! You can do it!"
Ryouta meanwhile only smiled at Colin. "Half wrong, half right. You don't need to depend on yourself. You're not a spirit user. You're a partnered human, which mean you'll later need to count on your partners to survive too. We're not alone, Colin," he pat his back. "Your partners might be small for now... they need your help to grow stronger and bigger, also to grow. So for now you're pulling their weight. But, when you got stronger... There might be even time where neither of you need to pull each other's weight, you'll fight together."
Ryouta and Ryu looked at each other and smiled. "That's what Super Ultimate is. We Japanese called it Isshin Doutai, which means in one flesh and soul. Your heart unisoned into one, your life is their life, their life is your life... that's what it means to reach the peak of the mountain. The absolute bond that shared between partners. But don't ask me to show it to you OK? I'm not kidding that one could wipe out a mountain."
