Super Special Training (Asher)

Today was one of those rare days where Elliot got to be home alone. Mom was out working. Isaac was out working. Even mom's friend was gone, presumably out on some sort of business trip. This meant that Elliot had free reign of the house, and could do whatever he wanted outside of the cold, prying eyes of the rest of the world. Normally this was marathon World of Warcraft sessions and sitting around in his pajamas like a total butt. However, today he had something else in mind. Something a lot more fun. And something that would help a lot more people than lazing around and raiding would.
That's why he rang up Asher. His call may've gone straight to voicemail, but he made sure to get right to the point with his message. "Hey Asher!" he chirped. "It's me, Elliot! Don't worry. This isn't gonna be another dramatic reading of my latest story. Isaac does those way better than me, anyway. I'm just calling to let you know that I'm home alone. You know what that means, right? We can finally get you some training!
I know last time you trained it was with the scary lady, but don't worry. She's not here. Heck, Isaac isn't either, if that had you worried any. It'll just be me. I promise, I'll keep things a lot calmer for you. I don't want to terrify you or anything! Just to help you be prepared. Anyway, if you're up for it, my house is the big brown one in the Housing District. Right by the border of Greater and Central Shibuya. You can't miss it! Hope to see you there~!"
With that message made, Elliot was currently left sitting on the couch and watching the door. He aimlessly kicked his legs, bad one dangling a bit more than the good one, and hummed a merry tune to himself. What was he going to do for his training? Well, he had no idea! But he was an experienced spirit user, and he knew that meant he'd be able to think of something. Besides, Asher needed him. Maybe. Possibly. How could he leave Asher behind in his time of maybe-possible need?
He checked the time on his phone. Any second now.

Of course the call went straight to voicemail! Asher was asleep! What did this kid expect from him? Regardless, after dragging himself out of bed, the teen listened to his voicemail, trying to comprehend a world beyond dreams. Yeah, yeah, Elliot wanted to do something. Training? That sounded fun.
Oh, wait. Training? No. That sounded awful! Where did that first thought come from?!
Either way, he wasn't going to let the boy down! But, was it weird to spend his free time with someone so much younger than he was? Well... Kind of, actually! Oh well. Since when did Asher care about other's opinions?
Piper was busy studying, anyway, so he supposed it didn't matter, even more! Lightly tapping his phone to text, there was just a simple message of, 'Kk. See you soon', before the redhead fixed his hair, and grabbed the keys off of the counter.
After a short drive, the teen managed to find the house fitting Elliot's description. He really should have given some numbers for it, or something! But, whatever. It was found. Dialing the boy's number, Asher hummed while waiting on the sidewalk. After all, standing on doorsteps just made him feel like a creep. Regardless of if Elliot picked up, or it went to voicemail, the young man would respond the same. "Would you like to open the door?"

Of course Elliot picked up the phone! Elliot is a responsible and dedicated citizen, and not a sleepy layabout like Asher. He turned on the phone, listening to what Asher had to say. Oh, he was outside already? That was fast! "Yay, you made it!" he chirped. "Although you could've just rang the doorbell, you know. Ah, what the heck, I'll grab it real quick. Coming~!" With that Elliot hung up the phone, grabbing his walking stick and easing himself off of the couch. Sometimes he got a little ahead of himself and ended up slipping a bit, needing to brace himself with his good leg while quickly trying to get his walking stick. Thankfully, today he managed to get it in the right order. After all, he was excited, but not that excited!
He opened the door, smiling wide. "Come on in! I got snacks," he said, ushering Asher in. Sure enough, there were a few little bowls on the table, including some chocolatey cookies, pocky sticks, and chex mix. "I know, not the best spread, but we haven't had a chance to go grocery shopping in a few days. Sorry!" Still, hopefully it was good enough for Asher's tastes.
"Alright, it'd be rude of me to just launch into training. So why don't you tell me how your day's been going?" Elliot asked, also sliding Asher the TV remote. Man, training with Elliot really didn't seem like training so far! But would it be that easy the whole time? "We can get started after a bit of chatting and snacking time, after all." Apparently not!

"Well, you'd still have to open the door," the teen was quick to counter, in a chipper tone. After all, he couldn't even sound irritated with Elliot! That kid was just too innocent. If someone tried to rob his house, Elliot would probably just let them in and offer them snacks.
Snacks like he was being offered right now. Weird. Still, he followed the boy into the home, looking around while being offered snacks. "I think it looks great!" What looked great? Oh! Oh yeah, the snacks. Right! Totally great. At the same time, he really didn't want to eat all of the kid's snacks. What if they didn't go shopping for a few more days? It wasn't like everyone could just drop everything and run to the grocery store.
"You really didn't have to prepare anything for me," he hummed, shoving one of his hands in his pockets. The other instinctively took the remote, as it was offered to him. Then, there was a pause while he looked down at the item. Okay. So, television time? Uh, what was something that Elliot liked watching?
Honestly, Asher didn't watch much television. He threw a glance at the T.V. to try to gauge if the channel was on something that Elliot was actually watching, before even thinking to click the buttons. If it was something that the kid liked, he certainly wasn't going to change it now!
"My day has been great," the young man grinned. Well, of course it was great. It was full of him sleeping! What wasn't great about that? "How about yours?" The redhead wasn't going to complain about not training yet! Heck, he'd stall as long as he could!

Elliot really didn't care about what was on the TV right now. Coming back from commercial break was some sort of drama, which Elliot didn't seem to glance at as he flitted about the house. After all, he had to bring Asher a few bottles of water! "Trust me, you'll need these," he said as he dropped the bottles off. " 'Cause we're gonna be working our butts off today!" He was pretty adept at navigating the house now, even with his walking stick. He didn't even make much noise from clattering into things, barring the occasional tap-tap-tap of his stick guiding him along the floor. Once he had finished adjusting the windows to provide the nicest amounts of lighting and making sure the heater was at a sufficiently toasty temperature, he flopped down on the couch next to Asher.
"That's great!" he said as Asher cheerfully talked about his day. Or, rather, mildly stated his day. "Mine's been okay. Really boring without everyone else here, though. I've been doing some writing, but I think by this point you're sick of hearing about all of that. Thought about going out to study, but with exams being so close I think I'm just going to take it easy for a bit." Studying, especially going out to do so, meant Piper. Crunch time meant Piper got really scary. Elliot was amazed he made it out of their last study session alive! "Turns out taking it easy can get kind of tiring. Especially when I've already beat all the games I bought for the year. You been up to anything fun?"
Of course, he couldn't delay the inevitable forever. The longer he dilly-dallied, the more likely someone got home. And they would probably have a lot of questions about their youngest household member spending time with an 18 year old TV celebrity. Or a mostly-naked barbarian woman. No matter what, it'd be awkward! "Alright, I'm ready when you are. Now, I know this is gonna be a typical first suggestion, but for today's first test . . ."
He fished out his Digivice from his pocket and put up his fists. It looked adorable. "Fight me!"

The actor looked at the bottles of water, contemplating where to put the objects. Sure, he understood the importance of staying hydrated, but this felt a bit excessive! "Thanks?" What had he gotten into? This was starting to feel a little worrying. Maybe, he really shouldn't have come over! Either way, it was too late now!
Still, Asher listened to Elliot's excuses for not doing anything, and continued to smile the entire way through. Ha. Studying. Cute. But, with a question turned on him, the redhead had to pause to think. Was 'vomiting from insane stress' considered fun?
No. Most definitely not.
"Sleeping is fun," the teen hummed, thoughtfully. Well, it was! For Asher, at the very least! And, Mr. Whiskers had been snuggling with him, so that kept him extra warm! But, he supposed he shouldn't admit that Whiskers actually liked to cuddle. The cat would probably scratch him up for revealing her secrets! Especially since she really didn't seem to like Asher when he was awake!
Yellow eyes focused on the child, as the test was brought up. While he tried his hardest to maintain a serious expression, even actors faltered from time to time. Or, several times per scene, depending. This was going to be a falter! It started as a twitch of the lips, progressing to snickering.
And then, lowering his head to try to avoid embarrassing the adorable boy, full-blown laughter. This was hysterical! Him? Fight a child? Digimon or not, Asher wasn't willing to do anything of the sort to Elliot! Literally, Elliot could beat him into the ground, and he still wouldn't be willing to hurt the kid! He was too innocent!
After a moment, he managed to take a couple of deep breaths, collecting himself, and rubbing his eyes under his glasses. "I-I'm sorry!" Asher snickered, taking another breath to steady his voice. "There is no way I'm going to fight you!" Would that hurt Elliot's feelings? Oh, shoot. Maybe he needed an excuse. "We can't risk damaging your home, anyway!" Good enough.

Elliot blushed a little in frustration, puffing out his cheeks slightly. "I'm serious! I'm strong!" he protested. Between the adorably offended tone in his voice and his huffing reaction to Asher's laughter, he certainly wasn't helping his case any. That said, Asher had a reasonable excuse. Their fighting probably would bring the house down, wouldn't it? Sure, they could always go to the park, but that would probably raise way too many questions with the neighbors. Considering what Asher had to say, he sighed and relented. "Besides, you're probably tired of all this fighting and danger anyway, aren't you? So I guess I could give you a break there," he decided. That seemed to be his attempt at saving face. It was questionable if it worked or not.
Thankfully, the boy seemed to perk up a bit after. "Thankfully, that's why I came up with a few new tests for you! I mean, I figured you wouldn't really want to do much fighting. So I decided to focus on stuff you do like. Like sleeping," he said. Wait, what? How was that training in any way, shape, or form? "I mean, I'm still gonna need you to transform. After all, you're going to have to adapt to your new form one way or another. But hopefully, it's gonna be way less tiring than the training you had to do before." Elliot didn't want to stress Asher out here! He would've felt really bad if he did so. He started walking away, calling to Asher over his shoulder. "Anyway, that's your first challenge! Just lie down and go to sleep. See if you can keep concentrated on it even when you're drifting off to dream land."
With that last request, Elliot was gone, not even waiting to see if Asher would have gone for the transformation. Hopefully Asher would just listen to his instructions, Digivolve, and sleep. It would make things so much easier for everyone that way. Then he wouldn't have to see Elliot rooting through his house's kitchen, grabbing the two largest pots and pans he had in his house and tucking them under his arms. Asher wouldn't have to hear Elliot creeping his way back behind him, the occasional tap-tap-tap of his walking stick being disturbed by the shaking of these cast-iron goods.
Maybe he wouldn't notice Elliot lying in wait for Asher to drift off, one pan in each hand as he waited for the most opportune moment to kick up a fuss.

Of course Elliot's reaction didn't help! In fact, it made it even harder for the teen to settle down! Either way, he'd let Elliot think that he was the one making the decision not to fight, rather than just being laughed at over the mere concept. That was the right thing to do, right?
Wait, did he say sleeping? Sure, Asher liked to sleep. But, with other people around? That was kind of weird. Not to mention, he had just been asleep! "Do you just want to stare at a half-naked, buff woman?" Asher needed to ask, deadpan. Why else would he have to be a scantily clad woman to take a nap? Elliot just wanted to stare at girls, didn't he?
Either way, he'd at least try to humor the kid. Pulling out his Digivice, he rolled it in the palm of his hand, while trying to concentrate. This was weird. Okay. What would work here? Silver and gold, like a fractal code. Mostly just gold, though. Actually, entirely gold. And, kind of creepy.
Why did Kinkakumon lack essentially all clothing? It was weird. Did Digimon not like clothes? Asher really liked clothes.
Despite seeming to zone out on his own thoughts, the coding lit up around his hand, soon encasing and breaking to reveal the requested form. Huh. Maybe this one didn't take as much concentration as he thought it would! Shifting on the couch, Kinkakumon shut his eyes, trying to think of some way to at least look like he was convincingly asleep.
After all, that's what Elliot wanted. This was really stupid, though. If Elliot tried to touch him, he was probably going to murder the poor child! Not even intentionally! Hopefully, the kid had thought through anything that might involve harassing a Digimon. But, that might be giving him a little too much credit.

"I-I didn't mean it like that!" Elliot protested from the kitchen as Asher commented on his request. It would've been the same plan if he turned into a giant dog, or a screaming void made of eyeballs. Of all the forms Asher could take, why did this one have to be so hot? Nevertheless, he'd just have to deal with it and move on. Asher's training depended on it.
He lied in wait as Asher "slept", trying his hardest not to look like he was just creeping on a sleeping oni girl. For this reason, the fact that Asher wasn't actually sleeping completely sailed over his head. He was far too busy completely averting his gaze, occasionally casting a glance to confirm if Asher was still "asleep" or not but otherwise keeping focused on the TV, or his frying pan, or the snack bowl. It may have been a little hypocritical, considering this training was all about focus, but Elliot didn't want Asher to think less of him for his training plans.
Eventually, he figured Asher was close enough to being asleep. That was when he rose to his full height, setting the walking stick aside and shakily balancing as he unfurled both pans from his arms. He gave them each a gentle bounce, as if testing their heft, before leaning back and crashing them both together. The clang echoed through the house, Elliot immediately regretting this move and looking around to see if the neighbors were disturbed. Thankfully they weren't, but for a second Elliot was terrified!
He looked down at Asher to try and see his reaction. Hopefully, said reaction wouldn't include sending Elliot flying across the room!

Jeez, this was so boring that Asher might actually fall asleep! But, that thought bubble ended with more of a crash than a pop. In the most literal interpretation possible! Jolting up, the Digimon shifted to stop the source of the sound, with hands stretched out.
But, before anything particularly bad would happen, the teen pulled away from whatever instinct had desired an absolute catastrophe. In a snap of light, the evolution had dispersed, returning to Asher's human form. Just in time for arms to cling around the smaller boy. Rather than whatever the spirit had intended, there was a rapid, but delicate, pulling motion to drag Elliot onto the redhead's lap and into a hug. That... could have been awful! "That was scary," the teen chirped, trying to sound like he was more concerned about his own fears than of breaking the already-crippled boy further. "I don't think I'm tired anymore!"
Then again, the fact that his instinct was to destroy something that startled him? That, alone, was moderately concerning. Usually, it wasn't like that! "How was that training, anyway?" Yes, please explain, Elliot! You just scared a guy out of an evolution!
Of course, not for the same reasons that Asher was feigning. It wasn't fear of the noise, but fear of breaking a kid that clearly had no common sense! At least digivolve before doing something stupid like that! Then again, if it was anyone except for Elliot, would he have gone for the throat?

Elliot was pulled into a hug quite unexpectedly. Honestly, he had thought he was going to get punched halfway across the room! Maybe it was a good thing that Asher had pledged to not fight Elliot after all, because judging by the rough initial grip on his shoulders Asher would not have hesitated to destroy anyone else into that position. The hug itself was quite warm and welcome, even if it made Elliot blush brightly as he realized he was just pulled onto Asher's lap. Once again, good thing nobody else was home today, or that would've looked really, really wrong!
Elliot tried his hardest to look disappointed in Asher instead of relieved. It wasn't easy, especially because it was really hard to stay mad at Asher for long. "I know. It was supposed to be scary. That's why it was training!" Elliot said. "Y'see, that one was for your focus. I wanted to see if you'd be able to hold onto your Digivolution even after something very jarring happened. I figured I'd start with sleep because you really like sleep, and its also something really easy to interrupt. But it could've been anything, really. Like meditating. Or video games. Hell, even a training battle. Because it'd really suck if you dropped form after a big, scary attack, and then got hurt bad."
Did I mention this whole ramble was being delivered while blushing and stammering? Poor Elliot was not in a very good position to explain things right now!
"Are you feeling okay?" he asked, trying to wiggle off of Asher's lap because it was starting to become way too embarrassing for him to handle. Hopefully his grip wasn't too strong, or Elliot would instead just be flailing like a fish in a trap. "I'm really sorry if that one was too much for you." Oh, if only Elliot knew why it was too much. Someone more attentive, like Isaac, might have noticed that Asher actually held form before dropping it, but to Elliot's eyes he had just jarred Asher out of a Digivolution with just one distraction.

Letting out a small sigh, the redhead looked up at the ceiling while Elliot stammered out his reasoning. That was just terrible logic! And that thought was coming from a guy who didn't really use logic! Asher didn't even think about how it might look if someone walked into the room at the moment. That was the last thing on his mind! Instead, he seemed to be trapped in a loop of what had just happened.
"You're so thoughtful, worrying about me being in danger," the young man hummed, soothingly. "But, I usually work really well under pressure! So, don't worry about that!" Now, if it were Isaac? Asher was fairly certain that Kinkakumon would still be the figure in the room.
That was... also worrying. And caused a painful twist in his stomach. Was it that he had more faith in Isaac's ability to react? Or too strong of a desire to keep the innocent safe? Maybe, it was something even more than that. The teen didn't care too much to ponder while being observed by another person.
But, now he could feel the younger boy squirming, and loosened his hold. "Me? Okay? I'm great!" Asher grinned, trying to sound convincing. "But, I think that was a little too much!" His heart couldn't handle another close call like that! If Elliot had gotten hurt, what would he do? "I don't think scaring me is a fun idea. Can't we do something a little less terrifying?"
Yes. Preferably something that didn't involve immense guilt and hospital trips!

Elliot frowned a little at Asher's assurance. "I know," he said again. "The Digital World really isn't usual, though. So its pretty important that we try and test your limits, just in case." Not worrying and Elliot weren't words that easily went together. Especially when the object of worry was someone quite important to Isaac, and the cause of worry was a parallel dimension where nothing really made sense whatsoever. "I trust you, though. So maybe we should put this one on the shelf for a bit and try something different," Elliot decided. He gave Asher a warm pat off of the shoulder, then took advantage of his loosened grip to slide off of his lap. Now there was a relief!
Still, considering his whole goal here was to make training that was a bit less terrifying than Karin's, there was a pretty guilty look on his face. He didn't think Asher would've taken this one so badly! He figured one Asher got used to it, it could've been a lot of fun. Asher could've drifted off to sleep and rested easy, even if it was a bit challenging. Elliot could've had a great time parading around and smashing pans together like it was New Years. Then after an hour or something they could all have a good laugh about it. Instead, he gave poor Asher a bad shock. "I'll just have to try harder next time . . ." he mumbled to himself as he started flipping through his book of ideas.
Oh! There was one! "How about a scary movie?" Elliot suggested. "That way its something startling still, but also a lot more fun than my idea. I know, it sounds kind of silly. Just watching movies and all that. But it might be able to help, right? I promise, I won't sneak up behind you and go 'Boo!' or anything like that."
He aimlessly flicked through the horror movies on various On-Demand channels as he made his suggestion. Pet Sematary. The Ring. Friday the 13th. Why did so many of these have to involve dead kids? Especially at a time like this?

"I've learned it's unusual!" Asher felt the need to counter Elliot's frown with a soft smile. After all, he kind of got the gist of unusual when the redhead was shoved in a box while Elliot arm-wrestled a village leader. That was definitely not something that a person would consider normal! It was actually really weird and belonged in a crazy dream. Not in real life! "Did you do all of this training stuff when you got a digivice?"
Probably not. It didn't really seem like Elliot had any idea what he was doing. If he had just wanted to hang out with Asher, he could have just said so! But, instead, they were doing things that could have horrible side-effects. Such as, you know, death.
Leaning against the couch, the teen placed one arm on the back of the furniture, watching Elliot go through his book. Wait. Book? What in the world did the kid have in there? Maybe, he should be concerned. And, was Elliot talking to himself? That could be worrying, too.
Before anything could be said, scary movies were brought up. Weird choice. "Huh? Sure," the teen shrugged. Scary movies weren't really that scary, but hey. It didn't involve trying to maul an innocent child in real life, so he'd take it! "What movie are you thinking?" Hopefully, it wasn't something that would traumatize Elliot instead!
...Crud. It was going to traumatize Elliot, instead. Asher could already see it. Either Elliot was going to be some crazy horror movie buff, or he was going to be absolutely terrified. There was no in between.
"Do I have to be half-naked and a woman for this, too?"

"Huh? Oh, not at all," Elliot said. "Instead I fell into a giant chasm and had to save my bro from a tank. Then I had to basically panic my way through learning how attacks work. By the time I started sparring with Alicia I got the hang of things better, but I was a mess. So I really, really want to make sure you have a better time at it than I did." Elliot sounded a little stressed recounting all of this. Sometimes it seemed like a miracle the kid could even put up with the Digital World. Nevertheless, he tried to keep his bright smile aimed in Asher's direction, even if it was wavering.
"I mean, you gotta be in your Digimon form, right?" Elliot asked. "That's the whole reason why we're doing this. To make you feel more comfortable in your form, and help you adapt to different circumstances in it. Like fear. Or shock. I know its a weird thing to imagine, but we process and feel stuff a good bit differently in spirit form than human form. So its really important that we try!" Elliot did an impressive job at talking around the fact that, yes, this meant he'd need to sit next to the super hot buff lady. He didn't want to either! But sacrifices needed to be made.
"Hmmm. I don't want anything that's just a bunch of blood and gore. I need surprises for this one," Elliot murmured in response to Asher's question. "Oh! How about Alien? I've never seen it before, but I heard it was really good," Elliot said. Well, there went the theory of horror savant Elliot, if he hadn't even seen a classic of the genre! The kid's mind was probably as untouched as fresh snow.
"While I put that on, anything you hope to do in the Digital World? I would've loved to give you the grand tour a few days back, but you seemed like you really needed the rest. So how about you tell me now? Champion's what most Digimon are at, anyway, so you should be more than able to defend yourself from bad ones and help out nice ones. The world's your oyster now!" It seemed Elliot tended to ramble when nervous or worried. And he sure was rambly today.
