And, maybe that was just The Sims way of saying that Isaac should be dead! Oh, wow. That was a really morbid thought. Wow, no. No, no, no. Just that thought turned Asher's stomach, after he realized it. How could he have thought of something like that? Suppress the guilt. Bottle it. Never think of it again. That was just terrible on so many levels!
Okay, it was going to take a little while to forget. It was a good thing that Asher had never really taken to alcohol. Why was he stressing so much about it? It was all in reference to a stupid video game, anyway!
"Sims are too much effort," the redhead admitted, cheerfully. It was a good thing he didn't actually have to take care of people! That would be awful! Yes, continue burying the earlier thoughts under how ridiculous care-taking is! "Chipmunk people sound terrifying, though," he hummed, trying to imagine what that even looked like. It was not a fun thought.
Really, DnD didn't sound very interesting to Asher. Would Elliot try to drag him into this? "What about Isaac's girlfriend? Can't rope her into a game?" Yes, try to fill the spots up with other people! Asher would just fall asleep if he had to play a game like that! And, luck was rarely on his side.
"Hey, I mean, I didn't say that," the teen remarked, sticking his tongue out. "I still have a hard time believing he has a real girlfriend!" But, the weird dreamy faces really didn't lie. Unless, Isaac had a very serious relationship with his imagination. Which, actually wouldn't surprise him any! Oh, except now the thought of Isaac was making his stomach turn again. It was a good thing that Asher was able to ignore things like that so well! "If he has to use a height box, please get a picture of it."

"Nah, effort's what makes it fun," Elliot said, smiling a little proudly at his bright, colorful village. It wasn't perfect, but it was really neat seeing just how much he could get away with. "But yeah, its not always for everyone going big like that. Sometimes it can be fun to just put up a family and see what happens." Usually fire. Fire is what happened. Elliot had spent a whole day setting up the textures for a gingerbread family in a gingerbread house, and it was all nothing but ash within seconds.
"I dunno if Maia'd really be into that kind of thing, really," Elliot said. Her games weren't usually ones with a lot of dice and improv. "Besides, if both she and Isaac are playing, what if they start game-flirting with each other? Its bad enough when they act all cute in public. But cute in a game?" Elliot made a gagging noise. Why did his brother have to be such a dork, and why did Maia have to enable him on that front so much?
Elliot felt a little vibrating in his pocket, but he was a bit too busy to answer just yet. "Hey! Come on, don't be rude," Elliot chided. "Besides, Maia's totally real. I'm sure there's some goofy group pics on my phone if you want to see," Elliot offered. "I'll make sure to get pictures of the height box in the next, like, ten years or so, though," he added. After all, he highly doubted Isaac was going to be a teen heartthrob of an actor. If he ever started getting into big, leading roles, it was easily going to take time. And even then, that seemed more like a pipe dream than a legit career path.

Looking over the village that Elliot had made, the teen clicked through a couple of the town edit options, before selecting an item. In no time, a colorful hot air balloon began floating lazily across the screen. Hey, it seemed like it would fit! And, if Elliot didn't like it, he just didn't have to save it. Problem solved!
But, of course Isaac's girlfriend wouldn't be interested in DnD. Who would be? But, he figured they'd be able to convince her, just for the sake of spending time with them! "Hope that they don't have high charisma?" Though, that didn't really mean that in-game flirting wouldn't happen. And, Asher had no idea the mechanics of the game to begin with! He really wasn't that nerdy! "Or just throw golf balls at them whenever they flirt. Problem solved!" Painfully solved! But, they'd probably run out of golf balls too soon.
Or Maia's 'pet' would eat all of the golf balls, and that was just a choking hazard.
"I don't know," Asher teased, "it's just hard to imagine that he got a girlfriend!" That would neither confirm nor deny if the teen wanted to see pictures. Part of him was curious. Part of him just didn't care! "And, I can wait on the height box pictures," obviously! It wasn't like he would be able to see them right now! "I'm just saying, if it happens, I want to see it!" But, wow, ten years? "I suggest having him work really hard, and try to get into it in five," the redhead insisted. After all, ten years was a long time!

Elliot shrugged and lobbed his phone over to Asher. "Its all yours," he said. "I already opened it up to the proper folder, so please don't go poking through too much." Thankfully, it would've been both very hard and very easy to go snooping in a phone like Elliot's. Everything was so organized it was almost its own form of disorganization. How did Elliot even know how to juggle these 5-folder deep nests? Yet the one Asher was on was currently the folder for bros and Maia pics. Wait, that meant Kuu would be there too, wouldn't he? Darn!
It was mostly just silly stuff, anyway. Like the trio on a train ride, Maia and Isaac both leaning on each other's shoulders and napping while Elliot giggled. Or the trio relaxing at Maia's place on a day when her parents weren't home, some cups of tea resting on the end table. Or the trio back at the arcade, Maia proudly grinning at a new high score as Isaac held her hand up like a ref to a new boxing champion. They all had a fairly relaxed vibe to them, but at least they were all too involved for Asher to think it was photoshop! If he really thought that lowly of Isaac, that is.
Of course, would Asher be too absorbed in the pictures to notice the text on Elliot's phone? It popped up so briefly, but the "Almost home" was unmistakable. It seemed Asher's 30 minute reprieve was reaching its precious few last minutes.
"Maybe if she tells him to, he'll do it in 5," Elliot joked. "I mean, he's trying to learn sign language for her when he hasn't even finished learning a second language yet! It's come in handy sometimes, though." Okay, the mute person they met in the Digital World only spoke JSL, so it was completely useless to them so far. But maybe it'd come in handy for more than flirting with Maia on the down-low sometime. "You have any advice that might help him?"

Catching the phone in both hands, the teen shifted it to properly look at the screen. "You say that like you think I'd actually check out all your stuff!" With a small laugh, Asher clicked through the pictures. "That's his girlfriend?" No way! "She's too pretty for him," he teased, continuing to shuffle between the photos, but not wandering to any other folders. That was just rude! Why, ever, would Elliot assume he would do that?
After all, Asher was still pretty sure if he poked around too much on Elliot's private stuff, he would have a lot of images of the boy shattered in ways that the redhead never wanted to know.
But, with the text, Asher began trying to think of some sort of reason to leave. Unfortunately, Piper hadn't sent him a message back, so his best plan of escape was failing him! Darn it! "Oh! You have a message!" He chimed, offering the phone back. Surely, Elliot would want to see it, after all!
Was Isaac really that stuck on his girlfriend that he would really only motivate for something if she told him to, though? That was kind of puppy-like! Then again, Isaac just gave off a puppy vibe all the time, in a way! "Help him with what? Getting out there, or flirting with his girlfriend in 'secret'?" Why else would anyone learn sign language? "Because, I don't think I can help him with sign language. As far as his career goals, that just depends on what he actually wants to do." After all, was drama just going to be for fun? Or did Isaac want to make a legitimate career out of it?

"Okay, good," Elliot said. "I just get worried sometimes, y'know? Especially because I worked so hard making sure my phone could be set up just the way I wanted. I dunno, its not that easy just giving my stuff up like that." That made Asher getting free, unobserved use of both the phone and computer pretty big compliments on Elliot's part! Sure, he'd only known Asher for a comparatively short while, but he already trusted the older teen so much.
And then Asher started looking through the photos. At first Elliot opened his mouth to say something. However, as he heard the door gently creak open, his complaint gave way to a huge grin on his face. Oh man, this was going to be hilarious. Elliot just hoped the small glare from the monitor didn't give the surprise away! Elliot slowly started wiggling his way back out of the blanket burrito, saying "I'll check it in a minute. I'm just a bit too comfy in here, still." That was kind of a lie, but just a little one. He didn't want Asher to turn around, give the phone back, and end up face-to-face with their new guest.
"Anyway, I don't really know what he wants to do just yet. Heck, I don't think he does, either. I know he finds it really interesting, but I think he's hoping some time and experience will help solidify whether its the right field for him or not," Elliot explained. "And it doesn't help that we can't exactly have normal schedules, with the whole Digital World thing. Although he's been building up a lot of confidence thanks to that, so who knows? Maybe it'll help!"
A pause for dramatic effect. And then the guest put his hands on the top of the computer chair, as if tilting it back ever-so-slightly. "So, who's too pretty for who, now?" asked Isaac, who had wandered in at just the right time. His voice was slightly disgruntled, but for the most part just teasing back at Asher. It was time to see if he'd make the same comment to Isaac's face!

"You're too comfortable to look at your phone?" That was a new one. Asher wasn't the type to hesitate if someone wanted to give his phone back to him! The more time with it, the more likely it was that someone would change the language to Spanish or something! And, Asher really didn't know Spanish in the slightest!
Shrugging, he continued to flip through the few pictures. It wasn't like he had anything better to do, than to kill Elliot's phone battery little by little! "Well, once he figures out, let me know." After all, Asher might have at least a little advice for the brother! Or not at all. It was really hard to tell. There were too many variables!
Feeling the chair shift, heart stopped for a second. Oh god, if he were Kinkakumon right now, someone would be hurt. As luck would have it for Isaac's sake, it was just Asher as regular, very human, Asher. Slowly, the actor tilted his head back to better look at the voice, with dull eyes. "I'm too pretty for you. I'm sorry, we just can't be together," he stated, flatly, while clicking the lock button on Elliot's phone.
If Asher didn't have a better response, sure, he would have repeated the exact same thing to Isaac's face. But, come on. This was just the best option! Who cared about saving face? He'd admit that Maia was too pretty for her boyfriend! That wasn't a secret, as far as he was concerned!
Curse Elliot, though! He knew Isaac was there, and didn't say a word about it! That kid was going to be relentlessly teased in the near future, as revenge! Asher swore by that!

Thankfully, having been fresh off of a shift at work, Isaac was already in a perfect frame of mind for rolling with the punches. When Asher deadpanned that he snapped right into action, mouth falling and eyes widening into a perfect expression of hurt. "I knew this day would come. Your heart hasn't been in this in ages," he responded, slowly but surely trying to "regain" his "composure." Once he had brought back a brave face he flopped onto his own bed, sliding off loosely-tied shoes as he sniffled into his pillow. Elliot simply watched the little show unfold, giggling a bit.
"Anyway, Isaac," Elliot said, sitting up a little and leaning against the wall. Yes, while still burrito'd up. When one of your legs was bad, you tended to be quite adept at moving with your gut. "I know he just tore your heart out of your chest and all-" The fake sniffling turned into fake ugly sobbing. "-But he said he'd help you out with some job advice! Especially if you're looking to do the drama thing on a bigger scale. So! He's here. You're here. What is your plan, anyway?"
Isaac leaned out of the pillow again. Unlike Elliot, who looked ready to doze off at any moment now, he whirled around so he was sitting back on the bed in a more normal position. "I was kinda hoping I wouldn't have to think about this kinda thing yet, y'know," Isaac said. "But hey, why put off tomorrow what you could do today, right?
I guess part of it hinges on what exactly doing this for a job is like. I mean, I'm guessing doing drama club stuff at school only shows, like, part of it. Sure, the time pressure's gonna be there, and I'll see what the kind of people who do this for a living are like, but I dunno how much of the whole thing will be represented there. Especially since its just a club, so there's way less pressure and stakes. So do you think you could tell me what a day on set's like for you? I think knowing what to expect would make a huge difference there." A big favor to ask of someone who's sick of your shit, Isaac. You're lucky there's a good luck burrito in the room who Asher could never say no to.

Slowly, a smirk slipped across the redhead's lips at the act. Still, he sounded more than serious about his lines. "I'll be honest, Darling. It never really was." Harsh! Either way, the act had to go on! He couldn't be outdone by Isaac of all people!
It even took a small amount of effort to not continue playing up the scene. After all, if Asher just walked over and touched Isaac's cheek...
But, that wasn't meant to be, and Asher remained in his seat, shifting slightly to listen to Elliot's prodding about Isaac's future plans. He hadn't expected the kid to prod his brother so soon about the subject! But, it was what it was, and there wasn't much going back on it now.
"I was never in Drama club," the teen admitted, dully, still leaning back against the chair. "So, I guess I can't give you notes for the differences, except one is entirely in front of a judging audience, and the other is not." Of course theater was live! "Pip tried Drama once, back in Oakland, and it sounded more stressful, actually." Maybe this would come as a surprise! Or not. "Something-something Hell Week? I don't know." That really wasn't helpful, though!
Shutting his eyes, the spirit user tried to imagine the days that he had primarily put behind him. "Schedule for those days, right." Ugh, this was effort. Why did Isaac have to come home? The Sims was so much easier! "It varied from act to act, really!" Not helpful! Try to zone in more on one subject! "Wake up, eat breakfast, go to the studio. Have someone throw a bunch of clothes at you. Put them on. Get shoved in a chair, where some people do your makeup. Do not fidget." It was almost like he was reading a schedule out of a notebook!
"Are you playing a character without glasses? Are your eyes not the color that the director imagined the character to have? Time for contacts. Do you want to put them in, or will the makeup lady? Tip, do it yourself. Strange fingers poking at your eyes is terrifying." Though, maybe some movies just edited effects on the actor's eyes. Asher didn't know. He really didn't watch his own shows! Or care enough to examine others! Not that it mattered, since the young adult had to wear contacts if he removed his glasses. Otherwise, he'd just be blind, and that was a bad idea. "Then, they'll make sure your hair is just right, and you head out to try to remember your lines."
The teen paused, trying to think about the events further. "Then, get told that the clothing people gave you an outfit the director didn't actually want you to wear for this scene for some random reason or another. Go back, and have someone help you change clothes so your makeup doesn't get on it. Get back to the set, and forget your lines halfway through. Ad-lib it, and when they cut the scene, pull the script that you stashed in the microwave out, and re-read those lines. Put it back in the microwave before the rolling begins, and try it again. Later find out that they used the ad-libbed lines anyway, and you really didn't need to memorize the real script for that scene." Impromptu lines could be the most important ones, after all!
"Your scene's over for now, go hang out with the other people who aren't doing anything. Maybe study? Eat something. The director tells you that your last scene was pretty good, except for this one little part, and you should really work on your delivery for lines like that. One of the other actors runs into the prop-door because they got distracted and forgot it couldn't actually open. Laugh at them. 'Subtly' fling rubber bands at each other across the set, in between takes. Or during takes that you know won't make the cut anyway, because one of the actors started laughing about a random thought they had while the camera was rolling. Pretend to have a serious conversation with someone in the background, that is actually just both of you talking about cats in space, because it's not like your audio is being used in that scene anyway. Watch the director trip over a chair because he got too excited. Call it a day. Go home."
Another pause, as Asher took a deep breath, and opened his eyes. "Get the gist of it? Or, was that too much?"

For now, Isaac kept quiet to listen to serious business. However, it was clear he was already coming up with retorts for Asher's latest line, if only due to the way his eyes seemed to dart back and forth as he brainstormed. After all, why would he ever let a perfectly good scene drop for good?
If drama club sounded stressful enough that even a trained TV actor was unnerved by it, maybe it would've been a step too far. Then again, when didn't school make everything more stressful than it needed to be? If there were athletic hell weeks, and academic hell weeks, surely theatrical hell weeks wouldn't be out of place. Still, it was a bit of a shame Asher couldn't help on that all-important first step. Everyone started their journeys in a different fashion, though, so it made sense Asher wouldn't have the same beginnings as Isaac might. It was the next step that'd matter more, and boy did Asher have a lot to say about those.
Isaac smiled as he listened to the picture Asher painted. It was equal parts warm and stressful, focused and irreverent. You went through a ton of often-meaningless busywork, but you took it all and crafted it into something really wonderful. There was a lot of panic and disorder, whether genuine worries or just on-set shenanigans. Your expectations could be swung around on a dime, for better or for worse. But through it all you had people you could rely on, talk about any old bullcrap with, and laugh about when one of the millions of things that could go wrong ended up happening. It was a pleasant picture. Was it one Isaac could see himself fitting into full time? Maybe. Maybe not. But he kind of liked it.
"Thank you," Isaac said, smiling, only for his face to fall back into a cold mask. "You heartless bastard. Was I always just a game for you?"
Elliot looked uncomfortable for a second, mumbling a quick "one sec" before scuttling off. Probably had to pee. Regardless, he shut the door once again, and that left Isaac and Asher without their audience.
Of course, the scene still needed to be resolved, did it not?

Talking about all of this made the teen almost miss his life on-set. It really wasn't that bad. Maybe, he shouldn't have left. Maybe, everything would be better. Maybe-- Stop. Stop the thoughts! He would wait until he was home for any of that thought process could properly be absorbed! Asher could worry about all of these things in the safety of his own home! Not in someone else's!
Of course, Isaac's first response warranted that fake, warm smile that had been perfected over years of practice. "Of course. Anything for you." And, just as the act was continuing along, Elliot stepped out of the room. Without Elliot in the room, for some reason it felt so much harder to keep his words in check. This had potential to become a problem. Asher felt his shoulders tense, looking at the ceiling while debating if he dared continue the scene out.
After all, it felt almost like it rang true. And, that made it insanely easy to fall into part for his next line. "That's all you've ever been to me," he uttered, so seriously. Wow, the redhead made a convincing actor!
Oh, if only that had actually been an act.

Okay. That started to sound a little bit too convincing. Then again, this whole day had been sounding too convincing from the start. After all, it was no secret that Asher had been cold to the boy lately. He went quiet in the hallways when Isaac passed, a noticeable change from how warm and bright he was to literally everyone else. When at work, the two of them put up a good show when needed, only for Asher to turn his back on Isaac literally the second they were out of the cafe's spotlight. Whenever Isaac tried to check in on Asher, often because Elliot wanted advice on one matter or another, the older boy didn't even pick up! It was starting to get really frustrating.
Isaac wondered why he was frustrated, even. Asher annoyed him, got in his personal space, and sucked at reading the atmosphere in the room. He was too likable to hate, but too irritating to be fond of. Yet at the same time, Isaac really wanted to be his friend. He felt for Asher's structures, and it worried him seeing how much they were swept under the bus. There might've been some fairness at play in Isaac's mind, too. He practically let Asher cling to him like a teddy bear when feeling nervous, and now the guy didn't even look him in the eye? The hypocrisy was infuriating.
"Should've known," Isaac said, making a disgusted noise. "I always had a feeling. Ignored it. Thought you were still worth trying for. But I should've known better, shouldn't I?" His own voice had taken a noticeably firmer tone, as joking around slowly started to progress into an explanation of his real feelings. "Its cruel, y'know? A guy gives everything he can give, and its just stepped on.
So when'd the game stop being fun for you?"

A small groan emitted from the teen's throat, listening to Isaac's act. He was awfully convincing, too, wasn't he? But, was Isaac convincing because he had been practicing his acting? Or, was he convincing because these were sincere words?
The life of an actor could be quite vexing.
"You should have known better," Asher confirmed, as if he were a man listening to his wife's complaints for the fiftieth time that week. "But, you still held out hope for something." Slowly, yellow eyes shifted from the ceiling, to settle on Isaac's face.
Either Asher was just that good at acting, or he was legitimately done with all of this. Blank expression only complimented dull eyes, seeming to barely listen to the older of the brother at this point. But, he could still hear it. And, somewhere, it was cutting him deeply. But, it was hard to pinpoint exactly what part of Asher's heart or mind had been injured through this 'act.' What was the best response that a convincing actor could give to a question like that?
Was he to answer honestly? Dramatically? Should he glide across the room to lean only inches from Isaac's face, in some attempt to get the point across?
No.
The redhead still sat in his place, barely moving, and hardly like the world perceived him to be. How long would Elliot be gone for? Hopefully, not too much more time would be left for these two to play their parts without an audience. "Since feelings were involved." Lips pressed tightly together, only parting for a moment, and then sealing again. The dramatic hesitance, to indicate that something important, or easily regretted, was going to be brought to light.
"Darling," he repeated the earlier pet name slowly, "please, don't assume that I was ever fond of you."

Which feelings? The ones where Asher was practically pissing himself while stuck in a tiny, cardboard box? The ones where Isaac insisted no, you can't just touch me wherever and whenever you want, and especially not my brother? The ones where Isaac gave and gave and gave while Asher just kept smiling on without a care in the world? The more Isaac thought about Asher's reaction, the more irritable he started to become. Was anyone worth this headache? Maybe some people were, but was Asher? His eyes started to narrow in annoyance as he tried to think of all the things he wanted to say to Asher. Every last, nasty thought.
Then he remembered Elliot would've been listening. He couldn't have been that far, after all. What would Elliot think if he heard everything?
In fact, what about Elliot? Moreso than Isaac, he seemed fond of the older teen. Very fond. Heck, if Isaac didn't know any better, he'd think his little bro was getting a big, awkward crush. Why did he have to pick somebody so insufferable for that? Isaac tried to think of what to say next, whether in response to Asher's callous words from before or in response to his own wandering mind.
"And what about the boy?" he asked, keeping their little setting going while trying to dig at the crux of this point. "You know he's always thought the world of you. Are you just playing with his heart, too?" The tone in Isaac's voice was dangerous. He could handle Asher turning his back on him. But to greet Elliot with such a blatantly false face? The idea was enough to make his blood boil. He waited to see if Asher would answer correctly or not, but it was clear that this little exercise was starting to get Isaac quite tense.

If only Isaac would voice all of those nasty thoughts. It would make the redhead's own words hurt a little less. It was as if each time he tried to pierce Isaac's heart, the blade opened a new wound on his hands. Oh, how unpleasant. But, it was too late to back out now.
Head tilted slightly, expression softening slightly at the mention of what could only be perceived as Elliot. Of course the older brother wanted to know of his own blood's well-being. "The boy?" Smirking, lips parted again, hardly debating words before they could escape. "It's funny that you would think I'd directly answer that." Slowly, he pulled his glasses off of his face, and began cleaning the lens with the edge of his shirt. Hadn't he done this earlier?
Eh, whatever. He needed some sort of motion to keep him going. And, this played the part of uncaring well enough, right?
"I'll keep him, as long as I can," he finally responded, to try to give Isaac a little more to work off of. "I don't intend to make the same mistakes with him, as I did with you." But, with a small pause, the teen added, "but, I'll let you make your own assumptions on what happens if I fail again." After all, there had to be plans in case of error. Even stunt doubles usually had some sort of safety net. "Unless, you have a problem with that?" Of course he would.
