Takara Kureha looked up and down his assembled team. It wasn't easy, considering two of them were the massive giants Whamon and Blimpmon. He had ended up holding this meeting on the edge of a cliff. Whamon sat in the ocean below, while Blimpmon floated off over the waters, looking disdainfully at the other Digimon. Of the landbound Digimon, Trailmon took up the most room, while Drimogemon clearly was not clear on exactly what had happened ever since agreeing to join this team. Takara Kureha stood in the middle, Hagurumon by his side, and BladeKuwagamon firmly gripping his arm. The team was nearly complete. The only remaining member was, after all, "MetalSeadramon! Today is the day he joins us!" Takara Kureha declared.
Trailmon immediately felt the need to correct this. "If I may, Takara, MetalSeadramon would be a terrible choice. We do not need two aquatic Digimon, after all." Trailmon was the only one of Takara's partners who got an ounce of respect from the boy, so he was also the only one who bothered to speak up in such cases. Takara listened quietly, but was frowning. "Hmm. I suppose you do have a point... With the power of Xros, we can create an aquatic Digimon far greater than he, after all. Who would you have us recruit in his place?" Takara felt that seven was a good number for partners. A lucky number, as it may be. He may have been talked out of hunting for MetalSeadramon fairly easily, but it seemed he still had interest in another partner.
Trailmon thought for a moment. Having been a partner to Takara Kureha, he had grown accustomed to the boy's lack of regard for the opinions of others. To have had his recommendation accepted so easily was a surprise, to say the least. He had certainly not considered ideas regarding a replacement for the Mega level sea serpent. He had to consider for a minute. A minute which was far too long for the legendarily impatient treasure hunter.
"I've got it! What this team lacks, it can only be one thing!" The entirety of Team Takara stood silent, expecting the answer to be something as crazy as that which usually comes out of the mouth of their partner. "Firepower! That's what we need! Someone who can give us a little extra boom, some pow, you know!" Takara was getting excited about this idea. It was true, his team seriously lacked the ability to make things explode!
With this in mind, Trailmon had an instant plan. "I know just the Digimon for the job. Tankdramon, who resides in the training grounds in the Eastern Timberlands. He should bring all the firepower you could possibly need." It was not Trailmon's first idea when it came to firepower, but he had no clue where he might find a Gundramon who could possibly submit to Takara Kureha as he was. The Legendary Treasure Hunter may have had a strangeness about him that made it easy to follow him despite his faults, but it would take more than that to recruit a Mega level Digimon.
"A tank, huh? Sounds good enough to me!" With a sweep of his Xros Loader, Takara sucked his partners back into the device. Only Hagurumon, Trailmon, and BladeKuwagamon were left on the cliffside. Hagurumon vaguely wondered why he had bothered doing this in the first place. Had he just wanted to see his entire party standing side by side by side? Knowing Takara, that was more likely than not the exact reason. "To the training grounds!" Takara cried, as he and Hagurumon boarded the train.
It was not hard to find Tankdramon once they had arrived at their destination. Big, heavily armed tanks did tend to stand out in a crowd. Wasting no time, Takara darted up to the Digimon, shouting, "Tankdramon! Join me!"
Tankdramon, predictably, ignored him. He ignored him very well, in fact, up until the human boy became insistent that he simply could not ignore him any longer. "An' who're you supposed to be!?" the Digimon yelled at the boy. Takara was slightly taken aback. Never before had one he desired as a partner not immediately accepted! Not counting MetalSeadramon, of course.
"Ah, my manners, I seem to have lost them. I am Takara Kureha, Legendary Treasure Hunter, and bearer of a Xros Loader." Takara explained. Tankdramon was not impressed. Pesky humans, always thinking they were such tough shit. Why, even Tankdramon could squash him, if it came to it!
The idea of this appealed to the bully Tankdramon, who loved to crush weaklings in the training pits. "Fine. Beat me in a duel, and I'll join you." Tankdramon declared with a cocky grin. "Lose, and you'll be my slave for a year!"
It was a deal that Tankdramon would live to regret making.
A short while later, the duelists were matched up in one of the training grounds. There wasn't much of a crowd, despite the stakes. Tankdramon was known to only fight Digimon who were blatantly weaker than he was, after all. There was no fun to be had in watching one such as he bullying the weak. But this fight was different. After all, since the inital challenge, Takara had become decked out in the gear known as Combatant Kuwagamon- He was now stronger than Tankdramon was. And Tankdramon knew this to be true.
It took but a single strike of the drill for Tankdramon to yield. Takara was not even permitted to finish his strike. But hey, all that matters is, he got that firepower he wanted!
