This whole announcer gig was more tiring than it seemed. Kaito could barely keep his MCmon appearance up to finish off the first round. Luckily, after this last match came a break. "Okay," he said, clearly running out of steam. "One more match in the first round of the Winner's Bracket! Luke Destro versus Gladius! Come on down!" The crowd grew quiet with anticipation as the final two participants prepared to fight.
OOC: Sci called the coin toss incorrectly, so Bread will go first when he is able.

Steps echoed through the length of a long hall, a shining, bright light at the end of the path. The roar of a massive crowd seemed far away and just beginning to approach, the rumble of stomping feet clapping hands sending tremors through the massive structure.
His core beat fast inside his chest as he found himself mere meters from the gate leading into the arena, until...!
Squire was almost blinded by the shine bearing down upon the arena, his arm raising to interpose itself between his eyes and the sunlight. The roar of the crowd hit his hearing senses like hammer, making his core beat even faster as the sheer excitement in the air practically flowed inside of him.
Taking a deep breath, the small dragon buried his excitement beneath his focus. He had already had a chance to study the massive arena during all the three battles before. The white, thick white stone tiles lined neatly over the floor were different from what he would have expected from a Colosseum of apparent Roman Design.
The small dragon shifted his gaze towards the other gate directly across from his own, not quite evolving yet. It went against chivalry to preemptively begin a one on one duel without first introducing one self to the opponent.
Slowly sliding his blade out of its scabbard, he stabbed it into the tiles beneath him, kneeling in front of it with his hands clasped around the hilt, waiting for his opponent to appear.

For some, the grand nature of this ring would prove overwhelming, and it would be hard to blame anyone for feeling that way! Entering from the southern arch, Luke and his partner, Iko, standing in his champion form as 'Ankomon' had quite the different reaction.
Iko was, by far, much more relaxed. Like his opponent, he had the advantage of being able to look over the battlefield and think about how to pursue it. He seemed oblivious to the crowd around him as he stepped onto the ring, a nod given towards his opponent as Iko shifted his feet, checking just how good the grip would be on his legs. Nothing would be sillier than losing this fight by pushing off the ground too hard!
"Sheesh..." As for Luke? Well, he hadn't had a crowd like before, his tennis meets rarely getting over fifty people to watch. Something like this, the sound billowing around them, was quite overwhelming! He blinked, glancing around, earning a chuckle from his partner.
"Oh, c'mon. We've been in far crazier places than this, Luke. Besides, for this round, all I want you to do is help me Digivolve."
"Hm? But I can spot-"
"No, you can't. His physical reach, even as a... rookie, I think? Its already twice my swing. Don't worry, I can handle it." And with that, Iko's focus turned forward:
"Yo, Champion or Ultimate? I'll match you up to that!" Yup, Iko wasn't going for any cheap shots!

Squire held his position knelt in front of his blade for a couple of seconds after the other two arrived, before slowly opening his eyes, his red gaze settling onto the two. Nearly immediately the human was dismissed and promptly ignored, his attention focusing entirely onto his opponent.
He rose from his kneeling position gracefully, arms still clasped around his weapon's hilt as his eyes narrowed, his brows knotting together into a fierce expression. He pulled his sword off the stone tiles, letting the blade hover at his side parallel to the ground.
"Fight with all your might." He replied sharply to the other, holding out his arm in front of himself. A great shine suddenly enveloped his form, his figure growing to twice his previous size to stand at near 7 feet tall. Decked out in full chrome digizoid armor, his coat flowing behind him as if a gale were constantly blowing directly in front of him, the Perfect level digimon's features were completely hidden by his helmet, nothing but darkness to be found in the slits. His blade was as long as he was tall, with his shield only a feet or so smaller than himself, yet he seemed to carry them as if they were but paper weights.
"As I will." He finished, holding his shield and sword idle at his sides, waiting for his opponent to match him.

Well, wasn't Squire one for flare: with what both Iko and Luke would consider rather grandiose and perhaps even commanding language, the challenge was called out to the far more casual wolf Digimon. The pair stood, Luke shielding his eyes as Iko gazed head-on, as Squire made his transformation into his heavily armored ultimate form. He truly had the wear and poise of a knight...
... And Iko wasn't going to keep him waiting. With a nod between them, an emerald light erupted from Luke's Digivice: "Lunar Energy! Digivolve!"
"Heh. Work on your call-outs, kid." The crescent symbol on his forehead pulsed, advancing to a half-filled moon, a visor covering his head soon after. Rather than increase in size, this change in form seemed more akin to putting armor on, golden armor only keeping his feet and claws free. With brief focus, two wings constructed of black energy erupted from the armored Digimon's back. Unlike Squire, Iko's armor held more of a lustrous appeal.
And the battle had been called, right? When both forms were taken, Iko decided to take advantage of their current distance! In that opening instant, a slit opened at the top of the helmet, revealing the Shaininmon's lunar symbol. A moment later, a white beam of light energy fired out, aimed dead at the other Ultimate's center!

The match begun!
The tiles underneath Mastedramon cracked and splintered as its heel sunk unto the white stone and pushed off, the massive force propelling it forward like an armored missile. A ray of light blasted off the enemy's helmet rather suddenly, but it meant little to the knight.
The ray of light slammed into the face of Mastedramon's shield soundly, burning into the shield with fiery power and forcefully slowing down the knight's charge. Its gaze narrowing behind its visor, Mastedramon swung out its shield, sending the beam of light veering off in an arc to the other side of the arena.
A ranged fighter. A challenge, though not the one he desired. He'll have to deal with it. It wasn't his first time fighting someone who wanted to keep him far away. Nothing to do but to push forward. The distance between them... it was enough.
Debris flew as Mastedramon pushed off once again, intent on closing the distance between himself and his opponent , thrusting his blade towards the enemy's gut.

Despite Squire's concern, Iko was hardly a long-ranged fighter. Heck, that was truly the first long-range move he had since his rookie stage! No, the wolf's reasoning for letting out such an attack wasn't to cause damage, but to see how his opponent would respond: would he sidestep it, or would he send out his own attack in kind?
Neither of those, it seemed: rather, he met it straight on with the shield! At that, Iko's gaze settled on that poise, that position: Mastedramon was still pushing forward, despite everything, to try and close the distance. Now wouldn't that be an interesting thought: did this knight have no long-range ability whatsoever? That was Luke's first thought!
If that's the case... all he needs to do is fly and pepper the battlefield with lasers! That would be true enough, if the opponent would be that predictable! And surely, Iko came to the same conclusion...
... Except Iko had yet to take a step from his location. Almost bewildered, Luke was about to call out, but the moment that Mastedramon would be within two sword-lengths of Iko, the wolf finally made his move: pressing forth on his own foot, Iko moved to dash forward and to a side, the one away from Squire's shield. Through his visor, he kept his gaze locked on the enemy knight, and stepped out and wide. With that momentum, it didn't seem that Squire could turn on a dime (at least, Iko hoped!).
But more importantly? With this motion, Iko wanted his shadow to intersect with Squire's. And if it did, both would erupt into black flame, and begin to snake towards the Mastedramon's legs!

Whether Mastedramon could force a turn at such speeds or not was left ambiguous, the knight's response to the sudden side step (of sorts) being to immediately stomp his foot and push off, accelerating further into a long jump, crossing the distance between himself and the wall of the arena.
Before slapping right into the wall, he spun in the air, intercepting his own landing against the wall with his feet before pushing off again and landing back into the arena's tiles.
It didn't immediately rush the other digimon once again, instead staring at its opponent silently. Though it had more than a few answers prepared in case an opponent foolishly tried to actually sidestep a stab, the lack of immediate attack from its opponent had caused some weariness to fill its mind, prompting the immediate 'retreat' of sorts.
Its swift leap had shifted its body higher, which had naturally shifted the projection of its shadow from the light source of the arena farther away. This had allowed it to inadvertently evade the shadow attack. Unfortunately, it had not even realized there had been a shadow attack, subtle as the move had been.
Mastedramon was left with nothing but weariness towards its opponent, knowing little of its abilities beyond the ray. Problematic if nothing else.
'He could have attacked then.' Wouldn't have worked, Mastedramon's confidence assured, but the opponent had no reason to think so, and no reason to waste such an opportunity... 'Perhaps, he did try something?'
In the end, the knight had no way of guessing its opponent's actions or abilities. It was the first time he had come across such a digimon, and his appearance did very little to suggest its abilities, beyond some kind of Lunar theme. Ice element, perhaps...?
'No point in guessing. Let us find out!' It thought, psyching itself up. Many warriors would have tried a different approach after the first one had failed.
Mastedramon was not like many warriors.
The tiles cracked underneath the force of its feet as it pushed off once again, its blade gliding over the tiles a hair width distance, just barely enough to not touch them. Its armored body blew through the wind resistance like a bullet, closing the distance between them somewhat faster than before.
Apparently, if the first time didn't work, it just hadn't been fast enough.

If anything, Iko and Mastedramon's show was doing nothing but making the crowd tense, already starting to yell for some real hits or action. And Luke was wondering just what that pass was all about... surely Mastedramon could have fired an attack over his shoulder? Iko's back was exposed, after all!
Hm... a heavily armored pure physical type... Iko's analytic mind, however, had pieced this much together. At the very least, this ultimate was much more comfortable at close range, and definitely had the power to boot: his footprints embedded on the stone, and the momentum that carried him to the far wall, were definitely no jokes. And only a fool used his full speed at the start of the battle, one had to leave room to sprint to have a surprise in motion.
All this in mind, the armored wolf turned, shadow cast over the arena. And at that point, Iko banged his two golden gauntlets together, metallic sound reverberating in front of him. Beneath his helmet, the wolf's fangs gave a grit. All Iko knew was that this knight would make an approach towards him again, and the wolf wanted to be ready-
He's fast!
Right, Iko didn't have time to second guess his choice! Sooner than before - to compensate for the increased speed - Iko pressed off on his leg, again to sidestep away from the shield! The jeers of the crowd were evident, insinuating that Iko was being nothing more than a rodeo clown! But, something was different: as Mastedramon would come over the arena, he'd feel a heat wafting from underneath, radiating into his armor. And perhaps, with his own senses, he'd see a few possibilities.
Iko had done something: Mastedramon's efforts, which had displaced the tiles around him, had given the wolf an idea: instead of using his shadowfire directly, Iko had directed his Dark Tendrils into the arena floor below him. He could use his own shadows, as well as the shadows right underneath his feet... or, to the point, the slight displacement of tile caused by the armored ultimate pushing off. And even then, the effect was minimal: Iko even banged his gauntlets, to cover up the slight sizzling sound beneath him.
What had he done?
Iko weakened the tiles' grout, burying and burning his shadow several feet around him. Each square of stone was no longer connected to the ground securely, and with the power Mastedramon put into his legs? If he pushed off full power, or pivoted and tried to face Iko, the floor would more easily dislodge and pull the feet out, right from underneath the armored Digimon's feet. In the best-case, it would make this stoic, straightforward knight faceplant into the ground!
Well, that was a lot of effort for a glorified banana peel! Until Mastedramon touched the ground again, Iko just kept with the same pattern as before, sidestepping away from the arc of the blade!
