There was a moment of silence between them as the rat soldier contemplated his position, to see whether or not he had any rights -or reasons for that matter- to shelter himself. If there was someone deserving of hearing out his thoughts at some point, it would be Brad. Despite the fact Pipmon hadn't known him for too long, he couldn't say he had ever gotten this close to a Digimon of whom he could assume wasn't going to judge him. Perhaps eventually, but today wasn't going to be the day for it.
"I guess we do. I guess we do." He forced a smile on his muzzle and nimbly dodged the rock fragments raining down upon him after the Rail Crusher attack. A good minute or so was spent on organizing the pebbles into neat stacks, leaving Pipmon with a job well done before he climbed on top of Brad's baseball cap. The whole trip had asked more from him than he had initially realized, and as a good soldier he knew when the time had come to preserve his resources. He held on as they went further down the trail from his companion's dream, and although he couldn't see it for himself he more or less guessed right when they were about to take a turn or drop down from a ledge. This was mostly because they had very few options to go on. The path had been surprisingly straightforward to the point where he was actually getting suspicious, and he would have called it out if it wasn't for the fork waiting for them up ahead. Patiently he waited as Brad fidgeted with the compass, surpressing his underlying doubt about why he had to fall back on the device at a crucial time like this. Seeing as how far they had come already it made no sense to turn back now. Luckily their struggle was shortlived, and he nodded quite satisfied. "We are already in too deep to fall back on rational thinking alone. I am going where you're going."
The Penmons threw glances around the icy caves, they themselves not having entered this deep into the bowels of the cavern system before. Whatever the strangers were looking for must indeed be something of value, for while they were aware of the treasures stored deep down, none of them had actually made any efforts to search for them. They were simple Digimon, and as long as it wasn't edible it was none of their concern. But at least they got a sightseeing tour while they were at it! It kept them occupied for so long that the one leading the group didn't pay attention until it was too late: He had already bumped into the Bearmon before the others could warn him. "Wh-.. whoops.." A quick glance behind him and he knew that he was being abandoned by companions going as fast as their little feet could waddle. "H-hi.. Please don't hurt me.." The Penmon was sweating bullets, his feet nervously dragging through the snow as if he was wondering if he would be fast enough to make a break for it. Given that his kinsmen were only a stone's throw away by now told him that the odds were against him.

After Brad used his Rail Crusher attack, he watched as Pipmon paid attention to the piles of rocks they left behind. Of course, it was a vital task that he had planned for in coming here, but he was glad that Pipmon was paying attention to the theme of rock breaking like this. As long as they hopped along with this, he hoped they'd find their way back.
After that was dealt with, Brad remained still to let Pipmon climb back on top of his head. It was a bit of a funny feeling, having such a small digimon ride him in this way, but Brad thought of him as a friend so he didn't remark about it in any way.
As they reached the crossroads, Pipmon mentioned that they would pretty much go wherever their path would lead. And that was fine with the Bearmon. Before he could continue, however, a Penmon suddenly approached and bumped into him.
"Oh, hello" he said, looking at the Penmon in confusion. "Are you looking for something in these caves too?" he asked, supposing that was the main reason why the bird digimon were present.
The Penmon asked that he wouldn't attack him. "Of course I won't do that, you haven't done anything to hurt me or my friend" Brad answered. "In fact we're here on a little quest of sorts. Basically I know that there's something that needs to be found in these caverns, so here we are looking for them". He hoped that maybe the Penmon might know somthing to help them out.

The Penmon stammered his way through what he experienced as an impromptu interrogation. He had to repeat himself several times in order to make sure he was being at least somewhat clear. By this point Pipmon had the hardest time not imagining another of his kin simply wearing a Penmon disguise in order to fool them, but he couldn't claim that cowardice was a trait purely restricted to one kind of Digimon or human for that matter. "J-just.. ehh.. just.. just.. nothing! Walking!" The avian Digimon nodded was if it would give himself any creditbility whatsoever. "And I know.. know.. nothing! C-can.. can I go now..?" He had already shuffled back before there was any clearance as he once again seemed to weigh his odds on whether or not he could get away from the duo. "I-if.. not.. they will go and get help!" The tears pooling up in the corner of the supposed captive didn't help him any if he had just tried to come across as threatening.
"Lets just let him go. It is not like he is willing to help us out here, and even if he was I don't think I would trust him after everything he said." Pipmon looked down at Brad from the edge of the baseball cap. He didn't exactly look annoyed, more concerned if anything. He was aware that -if he could analyze the Bearmon at least to some extend-, he had never wanted to upset the Penmon in the first place. Turning away now would perhaps be the right thing to do so they could focus on the path ahead. Before Brad made his answer known, he was already scouting the ledge they had previously crossed. The other Penmon were nowhere to be seen, and it didn't seem like there was anything else coming their way for the time being. Had it been a bluff, or was there really something about to fall upon them in retaliation? It was their home turf, so only time could tell whether or not this whole ordeal would just blow over.
With their lost companion nowhere to be seen, those who had gotten away from the site were overwhelmed by a crushing sense of regret. Not only had they abandoned their friend to who knows what kind of Digimon, but they also had to face facts: They were going to have to report back on this. There was hestitation in each waddled step, and by the time they found themselves back where their adventure had begun it dawned on them that there might be very little left to save. Sitting down in defeat, the Penmon didn't say a word. But as quiet as it was, they still couldn't hear the crunching sound of snow, nor notice the hulking figure moving in the direction they had been trying to get away from. All they would find later was a pair of footprints with at either side two continuous lines carved into the snow. The Digimon knew what this meant, and quickly made their way back to the community nesting grounds. There was nothing more they could do now but wait.

Brad blinked at how nervous the Penmon seemed. He didn't say anything in case there was something he wanted to say but simply couldn't, but it was to no avail. The Penmon didn't seem to be much for talking right now.
"Hmm. What an odd way for a digimon to behave" Brad said. He didn't really think he looked menacing. Perhaps the Penmon had been traumatized somewhere before? Well, if the Penmon really wanted to go back, Brad supposed he had the right to.
"Good luck, don't get lost" he called to them as they disappeared down the passage. Realizing he should probably leave some more markers, Brad did so, with chalk and broken rocks. And yet still these arrows from a long time ago seemed scratched into the walls.
"Hmm... I'm beginning to remember something" Brad said as he looked at them. "I remember seeing a lot of these arrows, but... after that, not much else" he said, frowning. "Well then. I suppose we'll just have to keep going".
Brad continued walking deep into the caverns. He dutifully followed the arrows, but, each time he did so, he began to feel a little uneasy. Like... doing so may be wrong somehow?
"So far we've passed seven of these junctions" Brad remarked to Pipmon. "And all they've done is lead us to more. I wonder... what would appear in the other way?". He paused, looking at the left path. The arrow was pointing to the right. Was it a dead end? A trap? Or something else entirely? He would wait to hear Pipmon's thoughts on this.

OOC: Just skipping to the end.
It seemed like hours as they searched through the caverns. Brad was following the arrows as they came to forks in the path, but, after half a dozen of them, he began to get a little worried.
"This all seems awfully familiar..." he thought to himself, frowning. At the seventh intersection, he looked left and right, then, eventually, began to walk in the opposite direction to what the arrow was saying. "If there's nothing here, we can simply resume, right?" he muttered to himself.
This time... everything seemed different. The cavern's rock patterns changed. The curves in the path seemed different. Curious, Brad picked up his pace. He could see a light ahead. Excited, he began to sprint until he finally came to a small chamber.
At the end of the room was a small white and green object. But that wasn't all that was there. As Brad approached it, he heard a voice. That wasn't Pipmon's...
"Kuma. It's been a while, friend".
Brad gasped and turned to the source of the voice. There, standing beside him, was a Gabumon. However... it seemed he was transparent. Was this a ghost? Or a memory?
"Gabu... is that you?" Brad asked. He reached out to touch him, but, to his disappointment, his paw went straight through. And Gabu didn't seem to react. Brad withdrew his paw, a sad expression in his eyes.
"This is my last message, Kuma..." the Gabumon said, looking very tired. "I'm... sorry you didn't make it. We were walking through this cave for days for our mission objective, but, it was all a trick. The arrows point in an endless loop. And it turns out all we had to do was go where they weren't. I guess this is why this is the Digimental of Curiosity".
He indicated the object, looking sad. "I don't have the strength to use it anymore. But... I knew you'd come back one day. I... think I'm going to die here, Kuma. So... as a last request, when I'm gone, my data should bond with that of the digimental. Please take it, Kuma, and use it well. I will never forget you... my friend".
As the transparent image of the Gabumon faded, tears began to run down Brad's eyes. This was him. This was the digimon in his memory.
"I won't forget either, Gabu" Brad promised, and held the digimental in his paws. At once, it shone with light. Brad could feel himself transforming. He didn't grow in size at all, but his power? It increased nearly twofold. His grey fur turned to pure white, green armor formed on his chest, and a blaster appeared on his back. He wore snowboots now, and a green ushanka hat. He had digivolved to the digimon known as Kumamon.
However, Brad could feel something more. At once, the fractured memories in his mind of his old adventures with Gabu came back in a rush. It seemed... he had not forgotten his old friend after all.
As Brad exited the caverns, helping Pipmon to leave as well, it seemed curiosity led to good things after all.
