Our Reflections [Isaac/Ask]

"Oh, they do." Iko wasn't going to leave any uncertainty in that regard: "It ain't called the lawless west for nothing. If you aren't in Rustport out there, I wouldn't even leave the Trailmon. Oh, and Starmon look like... um, what is it... yeah, big walking metal stars with eyes." At least in this regard, Isaac had a pretty good guess about the Starmon's appearance.
Still, he was still all too happy to change the topic of the conversation: he nodded as Isaac brought up Terminus, as it was a perfect example of civilization in this world! "And more recently, Whitewater. That's brought a lot of Digimon to the coast who would've never had a reason to head out there- hm?" Oh... well, that was a bit of a different question. Would he do this with Luke? At what was probably meant as a deep question, the squirrel managed to break a grin. "Well, I have no choice but to drag him along. Just like you Spirit Wielders are unique, so are Tamed Digimon - or, well, Aato. I can be away from him for a bit - say, like, a week or two - but we're ultimately tied to the Digivice and our partners. 'Sides, without him, I would only ever be a squirrel."
"Gee, thanks." Luke rolled his eyes, taking the pot of the fire. "Here stands Luke, the living Digimon battery. And someone as strong-spoken as yourself still feels like he has all the reigns." The engineer's smile was enough to prove he was poking fun, at least somewhat, as Luke set the pot down. Soon, disposable utensils and cheap, stackable Tupperware was provided. "Ah, help yourself, Isaac."
"Inconvenient time to be a squirrel..." At that, Luke rolled his eyes. "Oh, relax... it'll just take me a bit longer to recoup."
And that wouldn't slow down the conversation, anyway! "Yeah, you got that right... I like to be able to do somethin'."
"Aye, just keep in mind I need to be in my world in two weeks. Tests are coming up."
"You serious- oh, fine." He caught that glare, and just folded on the matter. It seemed that Isaac had at least somewhat of an idea of what he wanted to do, and as far as that went, he had suggestions: "Ah, I see... there are a number of magical Digimon you could reference. You know, Witchmon, Wizardmon, and the like... or maybe just the medical group in Terminus, too. If you have any luck, they might have seen something close to your situation before."
And, of course, it was turned back around on him. "Heh... for one, I'm going to get my paycheck for handling that dark temple, but I don't know after that. You heard Luke, I'm winging it: we're rolling by Whitewater just to check out what's going on over there."
"Hm. You sure you'll handle yourself out here alone alright, Isaac?" Luke shrugged. "If nothing else, its nice to have someone around Iko likes talking with."

"Somehow, I figured," Isaac said. He was totally right about the Starmon, it seemed. That said, despite their design sounding really goofy, it seemed like they were actually really dangerous. If Iko, who had just achieved the power of a Mega, didn't want to cross them, a mostly-depowered Isaac figured he had no right to provoke them either. "I'll make sure to steer clear," he added, wondering just what kind of power these Starmon were bringing to bear.
That wasn't all that Isaac had learned today. He also found out that partnered Digimon, quite literally, couldn't spend too much time away from their tamers without losing power. Even Iko, who had achieved the power of a Mega, wouldn't be able to muster up the strength to keep as a Rookie. Being that intimately tied to someone else sounded quite troublesome. Then again, he and Elliot weren't really at their full strength without each other, either. Both physically and emotionally, Isaac was finding the Digital World far harder to bear without Elliot by his side.
He couldn't help but worry that Elliot was feeling the same.
At mention of food, Isaac eagerly took some chili. After months of mushrooms and melons that grew around the journal, and occasionally some tough meat that he could pluck from the ground, this was a nice change of pace. "Hey, being a Digimon battery's not all bad," he said. "Better than being helpless at least, eh?" Small comforts. Very, very small comforts.
That said, Luke was still helpless before the god of exams. "I'll probably be left behind a grade, with all the exams I'm going to miss at this rate." Wouldn't that be hilarious? Maia would be a college student dating a high school freshman. Man, Japanese grade timeframes made that sound way creepier than it actually was. "Bet Elliot'd be glad to have me around, at least."
Magical and medical Digimon were Iko's two choices of visitation for Isaac. "Corrupted by invasive foreign code from an alien hopped up on a whole lot of crazy?" Isaac asked. "If there's a similar situation, I'll eat my hat. Still, might be worth a shot down the line."
It'd be a long line to take that shot down. Long strings of it would be spent alone. Would this one? "I've been taking care of myself for two Digital months now," he told Luke. "But you're right. Company's always nice, isn't it?
I'll tell ya what. Gimme the night to think on it, while we're here setting up camp. That sound fair to you?"

With the chili served, Isaac brought up an interesting - and in the grand scheme of things, a comparatively lighthearted point. Just how would he catch up on his classes if he was stuck out here as an Impmon? "Huh... I guess that is a thing... though honestly, summer classes aren't too bad to catch up on..."
"For a nerd like you, Luke, not at all." Iko chuckled, before catching on Isaac's next point. He seemed certain that his situation was rather unique, but even then, the squirrel just gave a shrug. "I mean... kind of? Kokatorimon and Vademon do the same type of thing, but I've definitely not seen whatever's happened to you." So yes, Isaac was unique, but perhaps not outside of just what was possible in the Digital World. It made sense to at least check it out! And if nothing else, it would be something for Terminus to even start to look into!
Yeah... Iko left out the part that Isaac might end up being the center of attention in a medical mystery.
And as for the rest, Luke nodded to Isaac's request. It seemed fair enough, and as it would go, the rest of the evening would likely go smoothly: Iko and Luke definitely had a number of stories to share as the hours would burn on, and it would just be a good time to shoot the breeze and get a good load off their shoulders, until the Digital moon would hang overhead...
