Following their battle with the Mad Regulus guild, Lissa and VeeVee had decided to travel westward and onto a new region. It was clear from the second they crossed the border that his part of the Digital World was an almost opposite of the last. It was extremely hot and humid which within minutes left Lissa and VeeVee sweating buckets from the sun’s ray that beat down onto them, mercilessly. Not to mention the landscape which was a lot more rough with tall cragged cliffs looming over them and stretches of acrid desert which went on for hours at a time.
“This...was...a...mistake,” VeeVee moaned, pulling himself along, his arms flailing behind him and his tongue long and stretched as he slowly dehydrated. “Perhaps. But, we can’t stop now. As I see it, it’d take as long going back as going forward. Right?” Lissa said, sagely. Her goggles low on her face to protect her from the sand which was being tossed from the warming winds. They had little water left but they had to press on before something emerged from the sand and got them.
They kept walking and walking and walking for who knows how long until they couldn’t walk no more. VeeVee collapsed first, falling face first into the shallow heaps of sand. “Wake...up. VeeVee. This is not time for...for a...break,” Lissa moaned, her vision slowly getting more and more woozy. She fell onto her back so she looked up at the sun which continued to beat down onto them. An odd shadow overcame them. It sounded oddly like a train speeding up to them with a series of ‘ch, ch, ch, ch, ch,” and then she blacked out.
The sweet sound of water dripping near Lissa’s ear woke her from her slumbers. She was in a large and completely silver room. It was strangely dazzling. The floor, ceiling and walls all glittered with a bright sheen. The only object in the room was a large shower that slowly dribbled water down into the deep basin. Although, it was so big whoever used it must be a giant. Other than that the room was empty, blank and deserted. Lissa stood up and placed her hand against the wall. The place that her hand touched, fizzed and with a roar of static – a small window popped into view. A voice began to speak in a deep, monotone voice. The connection seemed to be faulty as the voice wavered in and out as it spoke. “Wel– come. You are a guest of A– Yo–u will be– sterilized and th– en classified. Please wait for mo– re instruct– ions.”
Lissa looked up at the screen which showed a line of text – Time til sterilization. One hour. The counter flicked to a numerical figure and began to count down quickly. Whatever ‘sterilization’ was it didn’t sound like a good thing. Pushing against the door did nothing, neither did banging on it, punching it or kicking it except for bruising her knuckles and foot. As the time ticked down to half an hour, Lissa leaned against the wall in defeat. Quite suddenly, something behind her budged slightly. It appeared to be a panel in the wall, which was loose and could be jimmied away from its holdings with enough force. Using her talents, she moved back and then ran at it, jumping forward and kicking the metal panel with all her force. Lissa fell onto her back, almost knocked out by the recoil. “Ouch...remind me not to do that again,” she moaned to herself, rubbing the lump on the back of her head. Lissa looked up and saw that the panel had bent in the perfect way, she could pull on it. With a large amount of effort, the panel fell to the ground. Behind it lay an array of wires, levers and brightly coloured lights which flashed on and off. Between the disarray, there was a small screen which had a USB stick stuck into it. “Just like with that guild! Maybe I can...” With another tug the USB came loose and then with a zip, the door opened and the countdown stopped. “Phew. Time to get out of here...”
Slowly and silently, Lissa moved through the strange silver corridors. Not meeting a soul. Only passing another panel with a screen and flashing lights every so often. Until she found a set of stairs which led down, following them, Lissa found a room marked ‘Examination Room #1’
The door didn’t budge when she pressed her hands onto it until she noticed there was a small hole which was the perfect size for the USB stick. Inserting it had the effect she wanted, the door zoomed open just like the last and she snuck inside. There was three Digimon at the very back of the room. The two nearest Lissa looked very similar; like oversized gears with smaller gears spinning next to it as if they were adjoined together. One was bright gold and orange whilst the other was brown and gold, instead. Their bodies clacked as they approached the third Digimon whom she knew very well. It was VeeVee, unconscious and flailed – tied to a large table. “Examination activate,” one of the gears said. “Activate Examination!” the other cried out. A large device was pointing at VeeVee and it was glowing ominously with a strange red light. “Stop right there! My name is Lissa and I’m a hero of Justice. That is my friend, you’re pointing lasers at! You fiends. Let him go or ill –” She didn’t get to finish her sentence as one of the Gears stuck first. “Solar Flare!” One of his smaller gears shot away from his body and slammed into the wall very close to Lissa’s right ear. “Missed. Amateur. Darkness Gear!” The other gear did the exact same, shot one of the smaller gears which again slammed into the wall and stuck their. It would have hit Lissa if she hadn’t of ducked in time. “VeeVee. Any time now!” she called to her partner who remained sprawled. Lissa kicked at one of the gear Digimon who fell backwards but the other moved forwards. “Now to get another specimen! Better leave it intact or A– ”
It was interrupted as the room and all of its contents began to rattle. Like a cannon, another Digimon burst from the wall, leaving silver rubble all over the floor “Excuse me. Just need to pick up my passengers” It looked like a tiny train, only the time of a bumper car. Long metallic arms shot out and grabbed Lissa and then VeeVee and plopped them into the tiny passenger seat. A cloud of smoke burst from the chimney on the back of the train and the room was engulfed and lost. “Full speed ahead. Hold on tight, now!”
With a noise like a cannon blast, it zoomed away at top speed. It was travelling down a line of perfectly placed train tracks. The tracks led it down the corridor and to the right until they reached a large open hole in the wall. Seemingly made by the Digimon on its way in. The voices of the gear Digimon was growing closer. “Getting away! Away they are getting!” Each said in turn.
Without any further delay, the train shot away down the tracks and out of sight back into the warm air and acrid desert. Hiding behind a large rock formation, they finally stopped. The arms helped Lissa and VeeVee out of the small seat and onto their own feet. “It’s nice to meetcha’. My name is Lissa. I’m a Hero of Justice,” she said, taking one of the robotic hands and shaking it wildly up and down. “...and this is my partner, VeeVee.” VeeVee was slowly getting back to his feet, his head spinning. “That...that...that….is. Oh, I need a vacation,” he moaned, rubbing his head.
“...and you are? Not to be rude of course,” Lissa asked the Digimon. It looked down at her and said in a sad sort of way, “Two-Bit or just Bit if you prefer. I got that name by being a waste of metal or so he said. The master of that facility, Andromon.” “Andromon?” Lissa asked.
“He was a kind Digimon up to a few weeks ago, then he suddenly became much more… interested in humans and their partner Digimon. He set up camp here as he knew that the heat might cause the humans to pass out due to their…. physiological weaknesses.” Lissa listened curiously and then remembered quite suddenly. “You’re the one who saved us. I remember the noise of the train now.”
“Correct. I saved you. I took you back and nursed you to help but the two Digimon you met. Hagurumon and Solarmon caught me with you and took you to be examined, sterilized and catalogued as were the orders of Andromon.”
Lissa nodded again and thought hard. “Maybe, we can help you out? Get you back in their and we can sort out Andromon. Maybe make him see the error of his ways. If he is a kind Digimon like you say, he could reform.”
Two-Bit looked at Lissa for a moment. “Hmm… Well, I have nothing to lose. I’ll already be banished by now. To his subordinates that is the lowest punishment. Other than execution, of course. I shall help you. Until then, hop aboard and we shall find refuge elsewhere. It is not safe in this heat.” Lissa and VeeVee hopped aboard the cramped train and then zoomed away into the distance.
