Late Night Snacking - [Hiroyo]

As soon as Ryouta walked away from the table Hiroyo folded her arms and put her head down. She was feeling thoroughly disgusted with herself and her actions this night. With her face buried in the darkness of her arms she could ignore everything else, to have a moment to her self. It was pretty rude sure, but hadn't she already destroyed any chance at a good first impression already? She couldn't really blame her dad for kicking her at the moment. She had completely made a mess of things.
She finally relaxed her death grip on the digivice and moved her arms just enough so a little light slipped through to illuminate it. Had Ryouta honestly thought that little speech on how dangerous the Digital World was would scare her off? Honestly, did she even believe him on how dangerous the world was? Giant monsters and such couldn't really exist right? Ryu was just one of those super robotic toys yeah? She sighed and tilted her head so her eyes were above her arms and she could look at the little dragon.
"...you know for something that's suppose to be super scary you're actually kind of cute." She informed him, her voice dry and matter of fact so as to not reveal how flat and worn-out as she felt. That was the trouble of emotional roller coaster rides, they were so exhausting to deal with! She pouted a little, turning her head to watch Ryouta bringing the tea back to the table and sat up.
Her face flushed at the caffeine comment. She glared at him and crossed her arms over her chest. That wasn't fair! It wasn't the caffeine that did this! She drank caffeine a lot whenever people needed her to be alert in the morning! It was all Ryouta's fault for bringing up that he knew what the digivice was and then trying to scare her off with stories of how mean the digital world was! She tightened her grip and inhaled the sent of chamomile.
She would not lose her temper again, she would calm herself down and deal with this mess she had made. That of course completely flew out the window when she learned how much he wanted her to pay.
"TEN MILLION YEN?" She shouted, slapping both hands on the table and staring at him in complete shock.. That was too much! Way, way too much! Wasn't that price rather ridiculous? She slapped her free hand to her face and slowly slid back down into her seat. It was pretty obvious from the vaguely glazed expression on her face that she was in some kind of shock.
"T-ten million yen to go to another world with dangerous fire breathing dragons and other ghastly creatures, sure sure." She muttered, hunching her shoulders over as she attempted to get a grip on herself. If she put it that way it was a little more reasonable right!
Hiroyo leaned forward and the elbow of the hand on her face was keeping her upright and listened to the break down of the price. That, was still kind of ridiculous wasn't it? Such a ridiculous price for this! From a business perspective he really had everything nailed down too right, wasn't he only sixteen? This was the kind of tightly woven terms and agreements her father's lawyers created! Why was there already a contract! She was almost afraid to touch it.
"S-so, even if I were to, say, sleep in a cardboard box during the trip you'd still charge me the full amount right?" Her voice trembled on the first word but that was only to be expected, her brain was still trying to comprehend the gigantic cost! Still, she'd been raised better than a meek question. She needed to make a counter-offer! If only she could think of one.
"'Diamond class service'? Won't we be just roughing it in the woods the entire time? Surely you can't expect me to agree to such a high price without knowing more about the 'accommodations'." Yes, yes, that was a good start! Still, as she peeled her hand off her face and reached out to pull the contract closer Hiroyo couldn't find even a flicker of hope of weaseling out of it. Maybe she could get him to lower the exorbitant fee a little but in the end she would sign the paper no matter what.
She had already decided she would chase her ghosts to the Digital World. If she hadn't backed down from the threat of violence could she really back down from a simple thing like money?
She could already smell the incense lit for the memory of her poor bank account.

Ryouta sighed yet again. OK, so this girl won't understand unless she saw it, right? He looked at the ceiling and the floor, then at the area again. OK, he guessed that at least the ceiling is four meters. "...Ryu, evolve," he ordered. The small dragon suddenly coated with light and... soon appeared as another form nearly twice taller than Ryouta. Unfortunately, it's not really that big enough in the cafe. His tail tripped some of the chairs and he then looked at Hiroyo semi amusedly.
"Cute, eh?"
Ryouta patted the now not so small dragon's head, who forced to lower down his head so that his horn won't hit the ceiling. He now listened to Hiroyo talking and sighed. "First, it's impossible for me to charge you to sleep on a freaking cardboard and don't even try and say 'I'm sleeping on cardboard, so you'll cut the payment' or 'I'm sleeping here so I'm suing for disservice' because like I said, I'm so going to charge you more for liability costs. Second of all, no. We'll go enter the woods, go to the desert if needed, go to the tropics or whatever it is, but all in all, unless it's emergency, we'll be sleeping in my personal train."
He took out several photos of Ilbert's interior... which would make normal person question where the hell this boy who said he's ever been in some sort of massive debt could get something that expensive oh-almost-so-easily. If you put the best classy hotel in a train, the result is like that, most likely... or maybe even more?
"Oh by the way, while I'm a reasonable guy, I also have really short temper. Ridiculous demands and unfair suing should not be exercised, lest I drop someone off the volcano for being too annoying." The smile he showed on the end looks like smile of someone that nobody should cross.

Well, that was it. The last chance that this was some kind of ridiculous set-up was tossed out the window. Animatronics, no matter how advanced, really couldn't change as much as Ryu just had.
"You know...just because someone calls your partner cute doesn't mean you need to immediately try to prove your not." She grumbled then buried her head in her arms. How ridiculous this whole mess was! "You can be cute and still be manly!"
Contract negotiations required the full attention of both parties. She knew that, so why was it still so damn hard for her to come up with even a plausible counter? It was probably the fact that there weren't any negotiations to be made here, Ryouta wasn't allowing for any kind of wiggle room in the deal! That really wasn't fair! "Hey hey, you're talking a lot about how I can't do this and I can't do that but you aren't really the one who should be deciding that. Besides, with a payment that high there's no way I can pay it back quickly, you're not planning on charging interest are you? If all this adventuring gets in the way of my job I won't be able to pay you back at all either."
When the photographs came out and she learned he had his own private train her mood took a sharp dive downwards. "You're not lying about your age are you? A personal train is the kind of thing people work their whole lives to afford! Why do you even have a train, can you own a train at sixteen?" She muttered the last few questions, they were all rhetorical anyways. Sure she had been in nice hotels and the like but this was just too much. She was really tempted to put her head back down on the table but she couldn't back down here! At least, not anymore than she already was.
She leaned back in her seat with a sigh and tried to smile at Ryouta and Ryu. It came out a little awkward but at least she was trying, right?
Well, at least she was trying until Ryouta broke out the threats again. Hiroyo's smile faltered and for a moment she considered bolting out the door and saying 'no thanks' to the whole thing. But...this was the most she'd found out in two years of searching for clues. She'd gone everywhere from electronic shops to thrift stores trying to find out more about the digivice. She looked down at it and stroked her thumb along the side.
"You are a really bad salesperson, you know?" She looked up with a grin that didn't look at all forced. "Like, do you want me to sign the contract or not? Because the threats really don't make me think you want me to! But that's fine." She tucked the digivice back into its little custom holster on her belt and pulled her purse in front of her as she talked, rummaging around inside it for her favorite pen. If she was going to sign herself into debt she was going to do it on her own terms dammit! And, was there maybe some truth to her words? He had seemed awfully determined to impress upon her the dangers of the world earlier. At this point she was tempted to claim she was signing it just to spite him.
"There are terms to my acceptance, I have a job, if you want me to pay you back in any reasonable amount of time then it is best for both of us that I keep that job. I'm about to go on a four day break but my typical schedule is working six days then being off three." The grin on her face broadened and she straightened up from her rummaging with pen in hand. He had not reason to be mad, she was being perfectly reasonable and responsible here! "As long as you accept it's not humanly possible for me to pay this off inside at least five years, and that there will possibly times when I will take risks or have to put myself in danger due to " don't say stubborness or will, no need to poke the bear Hiroyo! "unavoidable circumstances then I think, Noguchi-san, we have a deal. Of course, I plan to keep those times as few as possible."

"Only because you're seem really oblivious about how serious I am," Ryouta muttered, then devolved Ryu back to his Dracomon form. "So I need to prove the point about all of this so called holes that sneaky people would use to gain some sort of leverage. Though, on the other hand, I'm being fair. I'll show them all sort of danger that would happened in Digital World."
He of course looked slightly amused when Hiroyo said her points. "Unfortunately, I'm the experienced one here, and while you're my boss the moment you sign this contract, I don't think you even know the surface of Digital World, do you? If you want to make an action there, you should consult me beforehand. I really don't want you to eat any Amnesic Mushroom anytime soon."
He of course snorted in mirth the moment she rhetorically asked question about his age. "...Sixteen years old, of course. Would you like to see my student ID? It's from a year ago, but at least it's my way to show I'm not forging anything. Oh by the way, I got him at clearance. Let's say the price is... uh, if prosthetic is $50000, then probably he's only about $1200000. That's such a nice deal isn't it?" That's still frickin' 120 million yen though. Twelve times of what he's demanding outta her.
Of course he snorted. "Exactly, I'm actually not interested for you to sign this contract. For all I want, I just want you to never get caught in any Digital World shenanigan that, with no offense meant, is probably way too dangerous for a nonpartnered human. As much as it pains me, I'd rather have you be blissfully unaware of any of this... but..."
He stared at her eyes directly. "...If you showed a determination more than my desire to keep you safe, yet in the dark, then I have no complaints." He pointed at the contract once again, like telling her to either accept it or return to the safe, stable job of her life. There's no one that forces her to do it but herself afterall.
"That is not a problem. A day in real world is seven days in Digital World. Twenty one days if we go all the way for your job. If you still need to have a way to pay faster, you can be a stewardess in my train in my workday, how does that sounds? Oh I told you before already, that's why you should listen more, there are no interest. Ten million yen, flat, for any period, or period until I think you're ready to go to Digital World alone in case you got partners. I'll be giving you all the accommodation, safety and most of all guarantee that I'll not break the contract unless we're positive that the partnered Digimon no longer exist. Are you still going to whine after this, Ms. Oda?"
Of course he's shooting her the same remark.

She hated to admit it, but Ryouta made many good points. Her previous...prickliness was starting to wear away, as were the marks in her palm from her previous death grip on the digivice. "Yeah I may have underestimated what you were saying a bit. Still I want to go." She looked from Ryouta to Ryu and gave both a wry grin. She knew how much trouble she was, this wasn't the first time her...persistence had been noticed. She still thought she could handle whatever the new world threw at her.
She didn't want to walk way without ever knowing if her friend had partners still surviving.
Hiroyo should probably clean out her ears or something. Clearly that was the reason she was having such an issue with listening to him. Oh well, she was catching what she thought was important. "Seven days to our one? That's...a little hard to warp the head around." Despite the supposed absurdity of it she sounded more intrigued than confused. Very curious too, she could fit all kinds of activities into her schedule with that kind of extra time! Like, pick up another job to help chip away at the massive amount of debt she was about to incur! She might not have to ask for extra money from her mother after all.
Hiroyo resettled in her chair, taking a deep breath of the chamomile tea before pulling away from the table again. She really was feeling better. Maybe she should give up caffeine.
The redhead snickered quietly at the thought and at him firing her own overly politeness back at her. "I admit I have been more than a little childish and I thank you for allowing me this chance regardless." She smoothed the contract out on the table. A few quick strokes in her neat tidy handwriting and her name down on paper. She capped her pen and looked over the contract one last time before finally pushing it over.
"There, my life is now officially in your hands and my wallet in deep despair." Despite the gloomy nature of her words and her earlier animosity she grinned at him. Excitement at getting started was helping to hide her stress at the moment.

"A bit doesn't even scratch the surface," Ryouta pointed out deadpanly. "Oh well, whatever. Anyway, I have seen your sincerity. With this I'll guard you as best as I can. If you really want to cut your expense a lot, then my suggestion is work for me like I suggested, but even so, it's not a stable job. I guess you'll be paid per work as opposed to per end of the month---then again, paid is such a funny word considering that it's for my loan anyway, I guess I'll just decrease the sum as you work."
At the remark that her wallet despaired, he just chortled. "Well, sorry then."
Still, he quickly made a copy of the contract and put it in the cupboard neatly.
"...Now, with that being said.. are you going to go home right the moment? Is it somewhere far? If you need a train, I can potentially help you... slightly."

"Since I'll be getting room and board I'd be fine with it going straight to pay off the debt." She mused as she brought a hand up to her chin. She really couldn't see herself needing any spending money besides what she currently made from her real job. Maybe this wouldn't be that bad after all. "How often do you have guests aboard anyways?"
She watched him make a copy of the contract and wondered for another moment why he seemed so knowledgeable about business practices for a sixteen year old. Then again, if one day here was equal to seven in the other world he mentioned, maybe he was actually a lot older? She should probably ask about it later but it made enough sense that she'd just accept it for now.
"As anxious as I am to get this going I think I'd rather walk home to be honest." She reached up to adjust her hat. "I'm going to need a wardrobe change or two, what kind of weather should I be dressing for and are you planning to stay out for the full..." she paused, eyes unfocusing as she did a quick calculation and then refocused on him again. "Twenty eight or so days?" Did she have enough clothes for that? A lot of her stuff was more suited for casually strolling around the city, not climbing cliffs or whatever they might end up doing. She'd have to let her roommate know she was planning to be missing for a few days. It wouldn't do for her to come home to missing persons search and a bunch of awkward questions.

"Quite often actually," Ryouta answered. "In the Digital World, I'm pretty much a transporter and at the same time allows people who dislikes long travel to ride for faster amount of time. I'm also some sort of mailman, you see..." he answered. "Well, unless I'm doing those two jobs, I pretty much will always be in train... but now that we have contract, I guess unless there was a more pressing matters, I'm pretty much always be there for you. My priority at the moment is to get you to meet your friend's partners... So I guess we'll first go to Terminus and see if Andromon can fix that Digivice... I dunno what's up with people and broken Digivices, really... mine never broken."
The question about the wardrobe, is it? Ryouta thought for a while then looked at Ryu who shrugged and mouthed "just the standard, I think."
"...Lessee... try to get as many as you could for two weeks worth or so. There's laundry in the train, so it'll be OK. Mostly get those clothes that easy to move in, and the thick clothes for cold area and of course lighter clothes for hot area. Clothes will get damaged, but we can obviously stop to buy some clothes if so you want in Digital World. Coats and such will be provided by me. Oh, we also have PJs in case of emergency. Yes, like in hotel, you can bring it home. Shampoos and such are unnecessary unless you have specific allergies. Other than that you should talk to the train slash butler himself. He'll make sure that all your needs are met."
Ryouta suddenly took out about 100 thousand yen and hand it to her. "...Let's say this is a small, no-interest loan for now in case you don't have enough of the said clothes. Though you have to pay 1.1 million in return."

Hiroyo fiddled with the edges of her sleeve as she listened to Ryouta. She felt wrung out from of the (admittedly self-inflicted) emotional mess she'd been through today. Still, what luck! She was closer to knowing more about her friend and meeting other friends of his!
A frown briefly flitted across her face, interrupting the polite smile that had been there. If seven days there were equal to one day here, then how long had they been waiting for him? What would they think when they learned of his fate and her (not so small) role in it?
Maybe it was best not to think on this right now with a rather ridiculously observant individual sitting across from her. She could beat herself up on her own time!
She faked a yawn and covered her mouth with the back of her hand. When she pulled her hand away she was smiling again, no sign of the worry that had been plaguing her. "Ah no, I have plenty of clothes!" She protested, quickly sliding the money back towards him. She was not sinking herself further into debt, no way no how! "At least for two weeks with laundry available. Man, your train really has everything huh?" She readjusted her shoulders against the chair back and took in another deep breath of that wonderful smelling tea. The tension from earlier was gone, but then she had never been one to hold a grudge.

Huh, she rejected it, huh? Well, so be it. He guessed that she just doesn't want to get into more debt? This is a bit amusing somehow. "Is that so? Well, other than that, I don't mind trading bits for yen, although it's probably on the more expensive side... Mainly because I don't really know if anywhere in Terminus other than the Terminus Mall carries human clothing. And even so, it's very scarce."
Then again he let her faked that yawn.. or is it pretty real? Whatever the case was, he know the moment she done that their time is already over. Ryouta left the chair and put several slices of cheesecake on what looked like the cafe's signature to-go box. He also put some chocolava cake, despite it's no longer melting obviously, and he added one more extra, a tiramisu in plastic cup.
"...Here, bring this home so nobody would wonder what the hell with the holdups if you're not living alone. Maybe if they eat these they'd understand," a cheeky smile blossomed on his face. "I'm quite sure of my cooking prowess."

"Bits...? That's a kind of currency over there isn't it?" It didn't really sound like a question, but then Ryouta was probably use to her making assumptions by now. Her subconscious just couldn't help itself.
What her subconscious thought was in complete accord when it came to the cake he was boxing up for her! The cheesecake earlier had been wonderful, she couldn't wait to try the rest! She'd have to share with her roommate of course, but with so many delicious looking cake pieces that was probably a good thing.
"Thank you! They won't question where I've been but it'll certainly sweeten the mood when I get home." She grinned as she took the bag and carefully placed it on the floor under her purse. "When do we leave? Actually, hang on..." She dug around in her purse, shoving her phones to the side in pursuit of the pen she had put away earlier. She really should've left it out and thought through the logistics of meeting up again better! "Where are you-aha!" She pulled the pen from her purse and uncapped it, quickly pulling a napkin to her. "This is my cell number, if something happens before we meet up again give me a call I guess? Or let me know if you need to change the time to leave? I should be ready to go pretty soon, I just need to get my things packed and then I'm ready to go."

"Yes, yes it is. It's a currency there," Ryouta answered. At times he's a bit thankful of (most) women predictable nature that they really love sweets. The mood seem softened somewhat. Do not reject the sweets when it's presented to you, is it?
Ryouta instead took out a business card from one of the business card holder on one of the counter then gave it to her. "Ignore that D-Terminal address and instead focus on the phone number. If it doesn't connect to my private phone that means I'm in Digital World. Just listen to the answering machine. Generally I'm always home in time... as much as possible, don't call the store. There's no answering machine for that one. Anyway, I suggest we leave in two days, five o'clock in the morning," he told her. "Anyway, if there are nothing else, I'd like to return back to my sleep. I might be lacking it."

"Wow, business cards. Did you take a class in take a bunch of business courses over there or what?" She teased as she took the card and then slipped it into her wallet. Best to make sure it didn't get lost in the general mess that was her purse! Still, it seemed like everything was in order. She was rather disappointed by the fact they weren't leaving tomorrow but, well, it was probably for the best. Especially for sleep! Unlike him she wouldn't be able to collapse into bed easily. She had so much caffeine and excitement tonight she could practically feel it buzzing through her veins!
"Aaah, it feels like it's been a really short time but long too." She mused. Her little outburst probably contributed to that but best not to mention it! In her opinion the sooner that incident was forgotten the better. She got up from her chair carefully so as to not hit the bag of goodies she had been gifted. A quick pluck on either side of her skirt resettled it from where it had gotten mussed from sitting so long and she was pleased to see she hadn't spilled anything on it.
"I'd say growing kids need their sleep but if you grow anymore you'll have poor Ryu's problem of not fitting indoors!" She grinned at both of them and scooped up both her purse and the bag of cakes. With that she was soon at the door, carefully pulling it open and stepping out. She paused half-way through and stuck her head back in the shop. "Um, I'm sorry. Thank you though and good night!" She grimaced sheepishly, gave them both a wave and scuttled away after quickly shutting the door.
She had packing to do! And probably a shopping trip too.
