Arbormon remembers what it was like before he'd been called to war. Even in his current state, as an inanimate totem resting atop a shrine in a forest, he could remember. He'd been named a Legendary Warrior by some 'higher power', but he hadn't really understood what that meant at the time. The first time he combined with the other nine, the first time they became Susanoomon, he finally understood. They were unstoppable, able to fell any enemy.
And that's exactly what they did, eventually defeating the enemy they'd been united to defeat, sealing it away forever. Or so they thought, at least. Some of the others had remained together but others, like Loweemon the Tortured, had ventured off by themselves. And that's exactly what Arbormon did too. He went home.
He started working with a group of Sunflowmon and Veggiemon, building a prosperous village in the forest very quickly. After that, he settled down and began to enjoy the peace and quiet, building toys for the younger Digimon. It wasn't an exciting life, but it made him feel whole. It didn't last, though. It never does.
Arbormon had heard about Loweemon's fall, and eventual corruption into Duskmon the Silent, feared across the land for his merciless sword. He went to find his friend, to help him. And although he found Duskmon, he never found his friend, and was forced to accept the fact that he was gone. Everything changes with time after all. He hoped that perhaps the others were at least doing better than Duskmon.
By the time he returned to the village, it was in ruins. The sparkling remains of shattered Digiama data were floating away even as he arrived, and the last of the buildings he'd so pain-stakingly put together with his own two hands was collapsing in flames. Before he could react to that, or the presence of the troops in the village, he was yanked away. A beam of light, pulling him to to the peak of the tallest mountain in the Digital World. His friends were waiting for him, but they didn't need to tell him who'd destroyed his village.
Their former adversary had returned somehow, swaying many to its cause with hypnotic charm and charisma. It hadn't taken long for its armies to overrun much of the Digital World, leaving it in tatters. And so once again the ten formed Susanoomon and struck down the forces of darkness, tearing apart so many soldiers that they quickly lost any hope of keeping track of the number to honor them. But the darkness itself couldn't be stopped. Worst, it could stop them. And it did, reverting the ten to their individual forms and draining their energy to the point that they reverted to statuettes, and were scattered across the Digital World.
How long ago was that? Too long, and yet not long enough at the same time. The Digital World eventually rebuilt, moved on and forgot. But Arbormon never did, constantly aware and thinking, but unable to move or speak. He could feel the others through their link, feeling Mercurymon and Duskmon reawaken from their immensely long slumber.
And then it was his turn! A blinding light breaks through the darkness that has clouded his eyes for too many years, and he suddenly realizes he can move again. He looks up from his sitting position on the forest floor, sunlight streaming down through the canopy and...Duskmon! He's here, and so is Mercurymon and...who is that? A small Digimon with red hair and...Agunimon? It can't be.
There's someone else with them, but it's not a Digimon. It's a human...yes, he's heard of them. But why are the three with one? Duskmon is barely moving, standing as though ready to protect the human from harm. Whoever the human is, it must be formidable to have gained the respect of the other three. Or at least their co-operation.
Arbormon slowly stands up and listens to Mercurymon's explanation. That this human is called Tadashi Tenkuji, and has become their 'Lord', leading them to victory time and time again. That he planned to find the six Warriors left unaccounted for, and help reunite them as Susanoomon to defend against the threats facing the Digital World. The little Digimon that reminded Arbormon so much of Agunimon, Flamemon, seemed to be anticipating that Abormon would say no, and was clearly spoiling for a fight. Best not to give him one.
It was an interesting proposition...and Tadashi Tenkuji claimed he was trying help both Digimon and humans come together in peace. None of the others spoke to deny his claims, or accuse him of lying. That was all Arbormon needed to hear.
“I want to help you, Tadashi Tenkuji,”
