Satoshi Himura's life wasn't looking great. A minimum wage job, piles of debt from college that weren't going away, and bills that were slowly adding up day by day. He was getting to the point that he couldn't afford his apartment on his own anymore, so he had put out an ad that he was searching for a roommate.
Now, the day had arrived for this new person to move in, and he was nervous. What if he didn't like this guy? What if he was a creep? What if he didn't do the dishes? Oh, the humanity!
Silently, patiently, Satoshi waited for his new roommate to show up.

And it would seem that Satoshi's patience would pay off. A twenty-five-year-old man by the name of John stood before the door of the apartment that Satoshi called home. He was currently holding the handle of a tan suitcase in one hand, with a dark blue medium-sized duffle bag in the other, and had a black gaming laptop backpack strapped to his torso. John stared almost absent-mindedly at the faded door while different thoughts pranced about in his head. Some were more prevalent than others.
"Is this the right place?" John examined the apartment number that was displayed on the wall to his left. The man was admittedly a little put-off by the location of the apartment. But what choice did he have? The rent he was paying at his previous home was a bit too much for him to handle, so he had to settle for something that he could actually afford. Apart from the particular situation that he was in, John was also sad that he would most likely never get to see Itsuki ever again.
From the minor opening in the duffle bag provided by its zipper peered a single ruby orb from within. It lacked its usual brightness due to concern that the creature felt for John. The eye belonged to a Koromon, of all things. "Hey, are you okay," he asked? The question snapped John back into reality, who put his suitcase upright and placed the now-free palm to his face. "Yeah," John answered, "just thinking, Casimeir." The Koromon continued to focus on his tamer. "Everything will be okay," he promised, "it's not like we'll never see her again. And even if you don't, you'll both have a special place in each other's hearts."
Casimeir's words of comfort brought a soft smile to John's visage. "Yeah. You're right, Cas. Thanks." With a newfound conviction, John rapped his knuckles against the door. He only hoped that things would go well with his new roommate. "I don't know how Satoshi will react to you, though," he mumbled. John did make sure to ask about pets before he agreed to move in, but a Digimon wasn't exactly your common gerbil. Only time would tell at this point.

Satoshi was a bit startled by the knock at the door, even though he had been expecting it all day. He nearly tripped over every piece of furniture as he walked over and opened the door. He was greeted by an American man, slightly older than Satoshi. It looked like he didn't have a whole lot with him.
"You must be John," Satoshi assumed, chuckling nervously. "I'm Satoshi Himura. It's very nice to meet you!" The young man extended his hand for a handshake. This was something they did in American culture, right

The Tamer's gentle smile grew wider once Satoshi opened the door and introduced himself. "Yes, my name is John. It's a pleasure to meet you, too!" John gently placed his duffle bag and its secret resident onto the concrete before grasping his new roommate's hand with his dominant extremity. His grip was firm, yet kind, and it was a display of respect. At least, in his native culture.
Based on first impressions, Satoshi appeared to be a nice fellow. John could imagine that the two of them would become good friends in the near-future. He took his hand back and relaxed it at his side now that the handshake had commenced. Meanwhile, Casimeir peeked through the hole in the bag so that he could examine Satoshi for himself. Like his Tamer, the Digimon deemed Satoshi to be a kind person.
"I hope you enjoy video games," John voiced with a hint of hopefulness. "I have the latest gaming systems with me, so you're free to play them if you ever feel up to it. Just as long as hog the consoles," he joked.

Satoshi chuckled. "Of course!" he said. "I've got a few systems of my own, as well. Some of them are older, but there's always some joy to be found in the classics!" He looked down at John's bags. "I'll give you a hand with your stuff." He picked up the bag that Casimeir was held in, even though he had no idea.
"Man," he grunted, "this thing is heavy!" Little did he know that a tiny Digimon rested inside.

An overwhelming dread filled both John and his Koromon in an instant when Satoshi reached for the bag. The hairs on the back of the Tamer's neck stood on end. What was he to do? John felt incredibly helpless! He thought about protesting, but that would just raise questions!
"Ah," John murmured, "okay?" His dread shifted into nervousness. "A-are you sure?" The Tamer's eyes were glued on the bag, with Casimeir staring right back at him with a look to show he was just as desperate as his Tamer was. Afraid to cause a scene, John gripped his suitcase's handle and stepped inside of the apartment.
Right now, the Tamer and his Digimon were powerless. The man could only pray that everything would go smoothly. "Just put it on the bed, please," was all he could muster. Casimeir was doing his best to keep absolutely quiet despite the panic that was rumbling within his round pink body. However, fate would have other plans when the Koromon was hit with an incredible urge to sneeze.

"It's no trouble!" Satoshi grunted. "Just come on in and relax!" He dragged the bag into the extra bedroom and threw it on the bed casually. Hopefully there wasn't anything breakable in it!
"So," he said, walking back into the living room. "What do you do for a living?" No amount of small talk would prepare him for what was about to happen.

Casimeir was very thankful to John for only packing clothes inside the duffle bag that John had smuggled him in. It made the landing on the bed much more tolerable than it would have been if the gaming systems were tucked away in there instead! Unfortunately, one of the folded shirts had rubbed against the poor Koromon's face. It was that extra tickle that would soon break the sea wall and let loose the sneeze that casimeir was doing his best to hold in. "Ah....Ahhh...!"
John's interest piqued when Satoshi inquired about his job. Unfortunately, the Tamer didn't get the chance to reply when the inevitable came to be. Unable to hold it back any longer, Casimeir simply had to sneeze, or he would explode! "Ah-CHOO!" The force of the sneeze caused the Digimon to fly out of the bag and land on the bed's pillow haphazardly.
The little Koromon appeared to be a little dizzy. John, who witnessed the otherwise comical scene, had a devastated look about him. Nervous droplets of sweat collected on his face. His eyes locked on Casimeir. Surely, this world was out to get the Tamer like it enjoyed a form of twisted humor. It was in that moment that John realized two possible outcomes. He could only hope for the better one.

Satoshi was just trying to make small talk with John when suddenly the bag that his new roommate had brought in sneezed. That didn't seem like an appropriate response to being thrown on a bed. That was when Satoshi saw the strange pink fluff ball sitting on John's bed.
"Um..." he said, literally too shocked to react. "I'm actually not sure if this place allows pets or not? What...is this thing?" He wasn't even scared as much as he was just...curious of the creature. For some reason he felt like he knew what this thing was, but just couldn't place it.

John expected various reactions from his new roommate. The more prominent ones at the front of the Tamer's mind included fear of the Digital creature, anger that John had failed to mention he had a Digimon in the first place, and threats to kick the two out for lying to him. But in reality, of those premonitions came true. Instead, Satoshi became intrigued about Casimeir! John let out a sigh of relief. It was time to give answers.
The Tamer looked over to Casimeir, who by now had shaken off the dizziness from the earlier fiasco. He signaled to the Koromon with a nod, letting his Partner know that he should perhaps explain things. A smile came to Casimeir's face, and he looked up to Satoshi. "I'm a Digimon," he explained with a friendly tone. "And my name is Casimeir! I'm a Koromon, you see!" The Digimon looked rather proud with that last point.
John felt much more relaxed, now. He approached the bed and sat down on it, looking to Satoshi as well. He needed to sit down after the experience, that was certain. "You see, Satoshi, sometimes people are granted a DigiEgg to look after. I don't know if it's random, or if there's a system in place...But once you obtain an egg, you become a Digimon Tamer." John would pause to ensure that he was hitting every point he could think of for his explanation.
"It's my job as a Tamer to help Casimeir grow and learn in order to strengthen the bond between humans and Digimon. They live a place called the Digital World, but I haven't been there yet." John smiled at Casimeir for a moment, then returned his gaze to Satoshi once again. "I don't think they qualify as pets, being as sentient as they are. So, technically we aren't breaking the lease?" He was a tad uncertain about that particular notion.

Satoshi was a little skeptical of this guy's claim, but he also couldn't deny that there was definitely a strange pink monster sitting on his new roommate's bed. "Digimon, huh," he muttered. "That sounds kinda cool! Makes me even more curious."
Satoshi was already starting to obsess over this new thing in his mind. All he wanted now was a Digimon of his own. Maybe just being in contact with one was enough to get the job done. "So there's a place like that," he continued to mutter. "We'll have to go sometime!"

Now that the introductions were out of the way, perhaps the day could continue in a normal fashion. At least, rational in the sense of a world where creatures called Digimon existed. John reached for his Koromon and gently placed him on his lap with Casimeir facing toward their new roommate. "Here's the thing," John cautioned, "I don't know how to get there. Neither does Casimeir. So it may take a while before we can visit the Digital World."
Casimeir looked a little saddened by John's words. "It would be nice to go there," he murmured. "I wanna see where I come from and explore." John gently stroked the top of Koromon's head. "Don't worry, little guy. We will visit, some day."

Satoshi was bummed that John didn't know how to get to the Digital World. Casimeir looked like he wanted to go home, too! That's when Satoshi got the idea that would change his life for good.
"Well, why don't we look together?" he asked. "It'd give me something fun to do for once, and maybe it'll lead to something more for both of you?" He meant what he said, but also was secretly hoping that it would help him become a Tamer, too. He had gotten too wrapped up in this too quickly.

Satoshi's suggestion almost threw the Tamer off-guard. "Look together," he repeated? John folded his arms across his chest. "I wonder if it's that easy." His Koromon, on the contrary, had very high hopes. "That sound like a great idea, Satoshi!" Casimeir could barely contain his excitement, bouncing up and down on John's lap with delight.
The Koromon's infectious happiness spread to John in a matter of seconds. The Tamer couldn't help but chuckle at his Partner's outlook. "Fine, fine," he said in a false defeat. "I don't see why we can't find the entrance to the Digital World. Besides, it could be a lot of fun!"

Satoshi smiled. "Then, we'll do it!" He had no idea how any of this worked, so he had no idea how hard it would be for a non-Tamer to find the entrance to the Digital World. Little did he know that he was about to find the key to his brand new adventure. The computer in his room began to make some strange noises that he had never heard before. There was also a bright light emanating from the unlit room.
Satoshi dashed in and turned the light on just as the computer calmed down. Sitting on his desk was a strange device that he didn't think was there before. It would later turn out that just being in contact with a Digimon was enough for Satoshi to become a Tamer on his own. "Hey, what's this?" Satoshi asked the pair.
