A few days had passed since Makoto first came across her digimon partner. Since parting ways with Katsura, Makoto kept up the facade with her parents, pretending that she was a secret fan of plush toys, and that Deuce was her favorite. Although she didn't bring him along to dinner anymore, instead promising to keep him fed once her parents had gone off to bed.
Deuce was... an interesting companion. While he was very giggly and clumsy, he was very loyal to her, being able to follow her instructions when needed. Makoto appreciated this. Normally the individuals she tried to be friends with always wanted something from her, and ceased the friendship when she couldn't think of how to provide whatever it is they wanted. This was not so with Deuce. The strange digimon seemed as loyal to her as a pet dog. Well... a small two legged humanoid dog with eyes on his hands and a fondness for leathery pants.
Eventually, as the weekend finally arrived, Makoto's curiosity led her to decide to finally go to the digital world. And, it seemed, the way to get there was via the Shibuya River. And so, one Saturday morning, dressed in what she hoped would be adequate clothes and a bag of vital supplies, Makoto and Deuce approached the filthy channel.
"So we just jump in and we're there, right?" Deuce asked, turning his hand up to look at her.
"I think so..." Makoto said, rubbing her chin hesitantly.
"Okay then! Woohoo!" Deuce then took a running jump, then tucked his knees in to perform a cannonball into the river. Then Makoto suddenly realized the rest of Katsura's instructions.
"Oh no wait I need to open the portal first!" Makoto suddenly realized out loud, taking out her digivice.
"Uh oh" Deuce muttered, then there was a deep 'splunk' noise as the sludgy surface of the river was broken, sucking him in, before a pool of filthy water closed over the hole that he left.
"...Deuce?" Makoto asked, her face showing a small amount of anxiety. "Are you through to the digital world...?" maybe the portal opened automatically? A frantic rush of bubbles told her that this probably wasn't the case and the Dracmon was probably in trouble.
"Tch..." she muttered irritably, supposing she'd best take action. She raised her digivice and before her eyes, a portal opened at the surface. The words "Digiport: Active" was visible on her screen, and she thought she saw Deuce being pulled from the river and into the rushing blue hole. The words "Digimon partner: Transported" showed up on the digivice screen. Well then, that was him safe for now.
Supposing there was nothing else for it, Makoto decided to seize the moment and jumped after him into the portal.
"Mako! *coff* You saved me!"
It seemed Makoto had landed in some kind of beach setting. The sand below was white, and the waves of the ocean were rolling onto the shore nearby. The first thing she felt was an immediate, filthy tight hug from the sludge covered Deuce.
He then realized he messed up when he broke off the hug, seeing that Makoto's clothes were now covered with sludge too. "Eh... sorry..."
Makoto sighed. His incompetence aside, she had at the very least expected her clothing to get filthy, considering the possibility that something had gone wrong and she would end up falling in that filthy river.
"Well, at least there's water just here..." she said, deciding to be optimistic. She stood up, smirking a little at their achievement. After all, this was a whole new world for them to explore. Yes they weren't the first to set foot here, but, Makoto felt a little craving for adventure. She then glanced at Deuce. "By the way, can you not swim?"
"I tried, but it was just... horrible down there" Deuce said, shuddering. "I could feel... things on me!"
"Yes. That was probably eels or something like that" Makoto mused.
"Eeeek!" Deuce squirmed with horror.
"Well then, try not to do it again" Makoto advised. After washing themselves off in the sea, she supposed that they now might as well find some civilization. Or, indeed, some other signs of non-hostile life. The two walked along the beach, wondering what they would find first.
