The Fruits of Life - Shadow

Continued from "The Fruits of Life"If nothing else, Yuu would get a fair feel of the black-masked Reppamon's power as she gave her best effort to get out of the way of the Reppamon's slash. In fact, at this range, the cut came quick enough that it slammed against Yuu's right pistol... and the force, if not enough to disarm the Beelstarmon, would at the very least cause her arm to be pushed along with the force, a deep cut forming in the pistol's metal. This level of power and competence could not come from a simple armor champion.
For the Reppamon, the delay was hopefully enough to allow it to get footing, and as soon as the Beelstarmon had aimed its weapons, a few things happened in quick sequence:
The blade's eyes pulsed a faint red. The mask's eyes, apparently in response, pulsed a similar red. And the weasel Digimon ducked down, and pushed off its hind legs... not to create distance to avoid the shot, but rather to dash forward. Keeping its head down, the Reppamon would dash right by Yuu's right side, to take advantage of the damaged weapon. If there wasn't time to adjust, the bullets would soar right over its head, the 'Silver Bullets' creating a hailstorm of metal over their initial position. And this approach wouldn't just be a dodge: the Reppamon's bladed tail, as if with an independent mind of its own, would try a slash right at the calf!
Still, regardless of the damage caused to Beelstarmon, the Reppamon's ending position would be the same: a few yards behind the gunslinger, the weasel would cut from its dash into a brisk trot, circling counterclockwise around the demonness. Perhaps curiously, he didn't immediately vanish from sight again... was he simply unable to?
'Shadow Step' effect ended. 'Shadow Scry' used.

If anything, BeelStarrmon had to admit that this weasel was good; it reacted quickly enough to avoid her attack, even if the element of surprise had worn off by now. Time to begin the counterattack.
Yeah, maybe her weapon had gotten damaged, but it was still operational. And she wouldn't take kindly that the weasel thought it could toy with her. Charging head on, especially with a pretty sizable blind spot in order to avoid her previous attack left Yuu with ample room to avoid the incoming attack. Immediately, the demoness jumped in high in order to avoid the attack. Before her enemy could retreat, however, she made sure to send a good amount of lead in its direction. This time, she thought on the most likely spots the weasel could retreat through, not bothering on taking aim all that much. Her enemy seemed to be fast, making an effort to hit it through locking on it pointless.
As the battle raged on, however, a small alert sprang in the back of her mind; "You have a new message". Well... that'd have to wait until she got rid of this oversized ferret. No time to think about that for now. Using Blow it Up twice on Reppamon. High Noon: Every two posts, BeelStarrmon can attack twice a post.
Blow it Up: BeelStarrmon's basic offensive ability covers a wide range of shots with the ability of being really damaging if you get hit by them. Extremely effective at most ranges, even though getting shots to hit at really large distances can be a problem.

'Toy with her'? Hardly. This Digimon knew very well the power he was dealing with, and simply couldn't afford to get caught out in any of the BeelStarmon's tricks: if their group was going to succeed in finding the fruit, than this errant super mega needed to be cut out of the picture. And for that to happen, it was going to take several risks and a fair bit of luck.
But this virus type also knew that he was the only one currently in the forest able to stand toe-to-toe with her! As the girl jumped out of range of her tail, the weasel's back turned to his target, Yuu wisely decided to follow-up with a barrage of bullets to take advantage of the other Digimon's blind spot. There was one key factor there, though:
Reppamon didn't have blind spots: the piercing eye on the metallic tail immediately picked up on the attack! For what good it was, it wouldn't help him avoid all of the damage: the tail slashed out, a few bullets sparking and glinting off the metallic surface, as others dug into the creature's sides. Rather than hold a perimeter, the weasel's mask looked to the woods, trying to find some avenue of cover.
But half of that was a ploy: with the tail's swing against the hailstorm of bullets, BeelStarmon would briefly hear a whistle in the air. Left airborne by the jump, the Reppamon had let forth a wicked attack, completely invisible to the naked eye: a scythe of wind. Perhaps she would notice a few bullets going wide, blown away by the gust, but this sharp blade was aimed right for the super-mega's midsection, and it was at least twice as wide as her. Should it hit, well, she'd be left with a deep cut across her front!
Vacuum Blade used. Visible long enough to detect that apparent level is, at least, mega. Sides wounded.

Really sorry for the delay As the fight raged on, BeelStarrmon picked on more of the Reppamon's abilities; her tail seemed to have a mind of its own. And while that helped its defense, some damage had been done. What else would the Reppamon have in store? Time to see!
Or hear, rather. Even if it seemed like the weasel would run for it, the truth seemed to be a rather clever feint. The attack was fast, and pretty much impossible to see; the outcome was a bit obvious. Being airborne would normally constitute a weakness for most digimons without wings, but BeelStarrmon had some of her own; as if she had footing, a swift maneuver ensued, trying to evade the wind blade but being not quite good enough, at least evidenced by the resulting gash in her side. Almost as if she were taking to heed to the wound, another barrage of bullets ensued, its intent being both denying space some to move to the Reppamon, with most of them going straight to it. The demoness now was bent on the digimon not getting away.
Some time had happened since Yuu felt excited about a fight. This opponent was a worthy one, and even if she doubted on what it exactly wanted, that didn't matter right now. Let's see how it would handle this. Using Silver Bullets again.

Reppamon's efforts were rewarded with a decent blow: the tail's eye noted the wound, a deep red mark in the Beelstarmon's side. That was more than just a glancing hit, that truly injured her! But there was definitely no time to celebrate the small victories: instead of nursing the wound, Yuu decided to make up for lost ground by letting off another cloud of bullets.
Without hesitation, the Reppamon pushed off its injured leg, forcing itself to tear to the right as a hail of bullets rained down over him. The weasel was definitely slower than before, his tattered and bloodied flanks obviously impeding him. What once would have been a deft dodge now found his tail and back legs caught by the bullets, the Reppamon rolling onto his side as he felt his feet battered by the metal. Yes, the attack left him a sitting target.
But before Yuu would even be able to adjust her aim, the weasel would vanish from sight, as would the ammo still jammed in the dark Digimon's sides and legs. And just like before, the forest would fall deathly silent, not even a stir in the underbrush betraying the dark-holy Digimon's movement.
Was this a retreat? Was the Reppamon preparing another ambush? Or was this something else, entirely?
Shadow Step active.

This fight was definitely getting interesting. Some time had happened since the last time BeelStarrmon had crossed an enemy that posed any real challenge to her, and this Reppamon seemed to have some tricks under its sleeve. Good. In all honesty, she wouldn't have had it any other way.
Well, time for wearing the kid gloves was over; if this weasel wanted for her to get serious, then she would gladly oblige. As soon as her foe disappeared, the demoness would concentrate on herself, heightening her already formidable might right into new heights. Her muscles tensed, her gaze refocused, and for a moment, she truly felt light, despite the wounds her body currently had sustained. If the weasel was to come back for her, it'd find an opponent in a whole new level... and a couple of pleasant surprises.
Well, for BeelStarrmon at least. Wasting no time, BeelStarrmon began to run through the nearby area, her sight shifting through the possible places where the Reppamon could be.
One thing was for sure; it wasn't getting away. Acoustic Shadow: Deciding to take the fight seriously, BeelStarrmon gets greatly empowered. Her attack and speed are increased to absurd levels, and her attacks that would otherwise affect one target now affect up to two. Lasts 2 posts. 3-post cooldown.

It was clear that the Reppamon had perhaps landed itself in hot water. After all, Yuu had decided to take this brief moment to embolden herself, and though the effect wasn't necessarily visible, it was clear that she was doing something to try and end this fight as quick as she could. Perhaps she was waiting for the Reppamon to act, and hoped that her reaction time and increased power would be enough to off the weasel. It seemed like a sound enough plan...
... But, in her haste, Yuu had clearly forgotten one important thing: Reppamon couldn't move. Though she couldn't know, Beelstarmon had vastly overestimated her attacker's 'Shadow Step', and vanishing from sight and hiding his presence was a complete bluff. She would run right past his location, into the woods. And it would be right then that the mega would re-appear, right where it had vanished. His tail would slice silently through the air three times, not even moving a single leg or even daring to turn his head. Whipping through the air, three similar blades would be launched like before:
One, right towards the center of her back. One, right at her legs. And one, arced wide out to the left like a boomerang, to attempt to slice at her left side!
Shadow Step Cancelled. Vacuum Blade x3 Used

As soon as the blades of air came whistling towards her from the direction the Reppamon had previously been, Beelstarrmon would just... feel the urge to groan. The weasel had just gone invisible and had remained in its place, not moving on the slightest. That had been a golden opportunity; an opportunity that she had summarily wasted. Well, crying over wasted opportunities wouldn't get her anywhere. Time to start again...
Reppamon's attack was fast, but right now, BeelStarrmon was completely sure that she was faster than it, not to say that the three blades had been focused on narrow points, removing the need for the dodging motion from being overly exaggerated. A quick twirl ensued for her to be out of the way. Turning right afterwards, a barrage of lead unlike anything the Reppamon had ever witnessed took to the air.
BeelStarrmon was a little excited about this. Let's see how it'd take it. Acoustic Shadow: 2 posts left.
BeelStarrmon is using Hail o' Lead: The quintessential form of the multi-shotting abilities. Precision, power and lots of killing intent! This ability equals to three uses of Blow it up. 2-post cooldown.

It definitely didn't look pretty, but the Reppamon's little trick had bought a few precious seconds, enough it to get feeling back in his legs. Just after the wind blades had left its tail, the weasel stood on all fours, legs tense and ready to move. Its mask faced away from Yuu, the Reppamon's tail keeping a keen eye on the gunslinger.
Tch... the blades had missed, huh? Worse yet, now the masked weasel was out in the open, unable to make himself vanish for a few moments longer, and the Beelstarmon was already raising her weapon to fire! The Reppamon wasn't dense: his now-able feet tore into the dirt, tearing through to try and find cover in the thick of the woods. If it was just a chase like this, though, it wouldn't be long before Yuu would be able to level the whole forest with her firepower!
Then again, this dark mega wasn't going to leave it at that. As it fled, the tail's eye pulsed a deep red, and those 'invisible' blades that she had managed to dodge would become quite visible. A dark aura flashed, crimson red energy flickering off of a black core, as all three of the blades stopped and angled themselves. Floating behind Yuu, the blades were lined up right with her core...
... And they would launch themselves. The first one, at the back, would cut in right towards her midsection, and if she dodged, the blade at the side would launch towards her new position at the center, another moment later. The third would follow suit, and then the first, stopping in front, would launch itself towards her again! This pattern, if not interrupted, would be followed for nine total cuts - three for each blade - before they would all swing towards her at once!
That said, well, an entire storm of bullets couldn't go ignored. The Reppamon's left flank would be absolutely tattered at this point: once he was back in the woods, he'd be limping, a clear red trail leading right to him...
'Macabre Effect' Used.

Oh, he wouldn't. If the darned weasel thought it could get away, it was sorely mistaken.
BeelStarrmon was quick to give chase, her feet flying by as she did. The next hit would be a killing blow, or at least good enough to incapacitate the Reppamon, but... well, the fight wasn't going to be that simple. It never was, right?
The demoness caught how, soon enough, the blades ignited themselves with reddish energy; not a good sign, if she had seen them. This wasn't good; the attack would probably manage to break her momentum, and give her some grievous wounds to boot. Right now... dodging didn't seem like an option. What would she do? Either stand and take the hit or going out with a bang were the most exciting of outcomes.
Right now, the only option for her was to brace for the attack and keep going. Evidence of the Reppamon being hurt were rather obvious, and if she could weather this attack, she'd probably be in for what could probably become a killing blow.
Well, if she did, that is.

It was less that it thought it could get away, and more that it was desperate to get away, at this point. With the use of 'Macabre Effect', the Reppamon had tipped the last unseen card it had to play. It was either going to finish Yuu off (or at least put her in a position where a weakened mega could finish her off!), or this Reppamon was going to be on the ropes!
And, unfortunately, it appeared that Yuu had a trick left up her sleeve. Wait, could sheer grit be called a trick? Yuu would shrug off the first 'wave' well enough, though as the fourth and fifth blades kept slicing through, the Beelstarmon would definitely start to feel those piercing blades against her, cutting deep across her back and her sides, over and over... and that last, coordinated slash would be lined up, one blade over each of her shoulders, and a third into her midsection!
If she was standing after this - and really, it would be down to grit and a full level difference - she'd easily be able to track the wounded Reppamon down. It had huddled around a thick tree, a red streak leading right to it. And right now, its mask was tilted up, the mega's teeth around the edge of a bullet, trying to rip it out so he could properly sprint away.

Well, force of character could get you so far, BeelStarrmon guessed. The continued assault from the Reppamon eventually began to weigh down on her, and as soon as the blades came back, she knew she couldn't take those directly or she'd be done for.
Dodging them was easily said than done, however. The burst of speed wearing off was bad news, and suddenly, the demoness' body felt comparatively heavy. Her outstanding speed was enough to evade one of the blades, but the other.... embedded itself on one of her arms, making her grit her teeth at the pain and prompting a slew of foul words to come from her mouth.
Somewhat on a lucky streak, the blade retracted, and before it attempted to stab at her again, the digimon dashed, summoning a good deal of the strength she had left. Now she was determined to not to let the Reppamon escape. Tracking it was easy enough, and cocking the gun on her remaining good hand in order to execute it was similarly so. She guessed this was the end of the line, even for a what had seemed like a worthy opponent. Acoustic Shadow wore off.
Hail o' Lead: 1 Posts CD.
BeelStarrmon is using Deadshot: In an attempt to finish her opponent off, BeelStarrmon fires off a massive bullet made of pure energy from both her guns. Deals more damage the more injured her enemy is. Potentially lethal. Can only be used once per enemy per fight.

The Reppamon knew it was in danger.
Yuu's frustrated swears in the background meant that the mega's last attack had managed to wound the Beelstarmon with a direct hit, but the fact that she could swear so angrily meant the attack hadn't warded off its pursuer at all! As clever as the masked weasel might have been, as much as it might have been able to pose a challenge to Yuu, the difference in capability was just too much.
Its blunt fangs finally managed to find the edge of that problematic bullet, just as the gun-toting demon would free herself from the blades' range. With a pull and a muffled whine, that problematic bullet would be freed, a spray of red, dusty data trailing behind the lead metal as it clambered out into the dirt. Just as it got back up on its feet, though, Yuu came right back into view, pistol ready and aimed right at the center of the mega. His muscles briefly tensed in reaction, each of its legs screaming out in agony from the built-up damage.
"... Damn it..." The Reppamon swore, knowing any single action - or even attempt - would simply hasten its end. Though Yuu might have been looking for a worthy fight, the Reppamon had been fighting for survival, and above all, to stall for time...
None of that mattered now, though, did it?

Hammer cocked, BeelStarrmon gazed at who had been his opponent moments ago. Beaten and battered, her enemy was now at the mercy of her gun. She could do anything right now; interrogate him about why he had been sent to chase her, or what was the purpose these guys had in here. And afterwards, she could probably detain the thing and eventually get it to a nearby jail or something, present charges for assault and watch as the justice system did its work.
All those silent considerations were instantly cast aside by her finger pulling the trigger. Repeteadly, and until she made sure the weasel was no more than a cloud of data.
An opportunity wasted but... eh, Sometimes, she could allow herself to be petty. Making the wise decision every time got boring after some time. Now, time reap the rewards and to keep on movin'.

Well, it seemed like diplomacy was off the table, as there wasn't even a second of hesitation in Yuu's action. The first bullet tore straight through the mask, and the second through his shoulder. Data quickly poured out from the creature as it collapsed backwards in a heap.
It didn't take long for Yuu to get her wish, the cloud of data wafting in the air. The surrounding forest seemed rather quiet... perhaps the Reppamon was a single assailant? Regardless, her chance to get answers from this dark mega were long gone.
