All The Power In The World Can't Help You Now (Elsie + Evie)

Elliot had considered a lot of consequences of Isaac's departure. He knew it'd be flat out harder to enjoy himself without his brother by his side. He knew he'd have to run himself ragged coming up with excuses and reasons, because telling the truth to his mom in a fashion like this would break her in half. He knew Maia would obviously be on edge, and frankly it just hurt to see her and the rest of their friends react to such news. Worst of all, he knew that somewhere, his brother was probably in horrible distress both physically and mentally. It was an awful burden to carry, and something far scarier to Elliot than being alone normally would have been.
However, Elliot couldn't have foreseen the bullying. He always felt that he was rather well-liked, personally. He also wasn't sure that Isaac was the best anti-bullying deterrent, considering that he was about 5 feet tall and as intimidating as a spread of bubble wrap. Nevertheless, a strategically-deployed older brother was an asset that Elliot had sorely taken for granted. There was safety in numbers and danger in differences, and Elliot both lacked the former and had the latter in spades.
It had been a few days since the bullying had started, yet Elliot was still caught off guard as he felt a well-polished shoe hook around his walking stick. They were off school grounds right now, just far enough that the administration could put their hands in their pockets and say it wasn't a problem. More surprising was how bold they were; usually, Elliot's newfound bullies had waited until he was between school and home to strike. Now he had barely turned a corner around the premises before they struck, leaving Elliot falling right onto the concrete.
He caught himself with his hands, heart taking a leap as he realized just how close his head was to hitting the floor. The sticky feeling of lightly scraped hands was pretty bad, but not as bad as seeing his walking stick rolling into the bushes. Oh god. Now it was going to be a major pain to find, especially when whoever had just tripped him had far more mobility.
As he looked up he saw his tormentor. Of course it was Goro. The guy even shared a name with a big, stupid ogre. Usually he just followed other bullies around like a toady, but it seemed like today he was getting bold enough to strike it out on his own. "Having trouble seeing where you're going, Idiot?" he asked, taking great delight in how the English word kinda-sorta rhymed with Elliot's name. He made the same joke every day, and nobody laughed but himself. Maybe he hoped now that, as a captive audience, Elliot would have no choice but to laugh. "No wonder you keep falling!"
"This is the third time this week, Goro," Elliot said, weakly groaning. He was seriously not in the mood for this, and already tried propping himself up to start making his way towards his walking stick. Two small, red stains on the floor stood as marks of shame from his earlier fall. "Can't you just give me a break this once?"
Goro just looked down at Elliot's leg, smirking. "It looks like life already did that for me!" he said, bursting out into full on laughter again. Goro really was the worst kind of bully. Rather than just taking Elliot's wallet and getting it over with, he fancied himself a comedian. Normally by now one of the other bullies would've slapped him for being lame and moved things along by now, but today Elliot was trapped.
He could only groan in irritation, staggering for his walking stick and occasionally slipping up from his unevenly distributed weight. If this reoccurred more than it currently did, it was going to get really irritated really fast.

"What I'm trying to say, is that I just need to find a really big tree."
"What is with you and trees?"
Tilting her head, the older of the twins gave a shrug. "They're sturdy and peaceful?" Evie didn't know why she liked the idea of being in trees so much! It was just a good idea! And, she really needed an excuse to spend time outside!
"You're supposed to be the smart one!"
"My grades would confirm that I am."
Continuing their conversation, the girls began their way home from class. Before they even reached the corner, they could hear some sort of conversation that didn't seem to be on the most friendly of terms. Exchanging glances, Evie took the first step around the corner, only to be yanked back by her sibling. "What're you doing?"
Giving a shrug, blue eyes blinked innocently. "The same thing you did for me."
"That was almost ten years ago, and it made you cry." If Elsie had been worried about Evie breaking her bones from falling out of a tree, she didn't dare put too much thought into if the fragile-looking girl crossed a legitimate bully! Just because Elsie did it when they were kids, it didn't mean her sister should attempt the same now!
Another shrug was provided, before wiggling her wrist free from her sister's grip. "Can you find his cane?" Wait, what cane? Elsie wasn't even sure what Evie was talking about right now! Without giving her sister a chance to question anything, the 'older' blonde rounded the corner, walking directly toward the commotion. "Excuse me," she chimed, trying to draw attention, while folding her hands in front of her. "Goro, is it?"
Confronting bullies really wasn't either twin's style, and Elsie couldn't figure, for the life of her, why Evie would feel the need to defend this kid! Either way, she tried to keep out of sight for the time being, rather than following her sibling's request, to assess the situation. What was the point in getting some stranger's walking stick, if she was going to be too busy punching a-- oh. Suddenly, Elsie was seeing a good reason to want that walking stick! But, would Elliot get a chance to grab it before Elsie would need to step in?

Goro stopped short as he noticed Evie's approach. Frankly, she wasn't exactly the most intimidating cavalry. Foreign girls may've been taller, but she was such a quiet and unassuming looking thing that she didn't seem even remotely like a threat. Goro let out a slight scoff as she approached. "That's Morita-sama to you . . . uh . . ." He squinted his eyes somewhat, looking Evie up and down. Come to think of it, she was such a background presence that Goro didn't even know who he was. His nose wrinkled in frustration as he realized that fact. How the hell was he supposed to come up with a mocking name if he didn't even know who he was talking to? Finally he let out a huff of surrender. "Ghost!" he decided, sounding somewhat exasperated by all of this.
Maybe Elliot could've taken advantage of this time to speed up while Goro's back was turned, but first he had to see who the new presence was. Two girls that looked a lot alike, barring hair and eye color. Twins? Maybe. He actually recognized them somewhat from whenever Isaac left his classes, but sadly he didn't know them well enough to get a sense of their names. Maybe then he could thank them properly for their help. The green-eyed one (tentative name: Luigi) was approaching the bully, while the red-eyed one (tentative name: Mario) was surveying the situation. She almost seemed to be looking for something in the bushes . . . his walking stick?
Elliot looked towards "Mario," then towards the bushes, then shook his head. He mouthed a quick 'I'm okay, thank you' to her, but the smile on his face was nothing short of grateful.
Unfortunately, while his gratitude shined clearly through, his actual ability to help himself didn't exactly. His foot slipped a little as he moved towards the bushes, causing him to stumble slightly. He forced himself to grab onto a light pole to keep upright, leaving a small, red hand print behind. At least he had managed to avoid falling, even with his foot currently positioned very gingerly.
Goro didn't even hesitate on the chance, walking to Elliot and wrapping an arm around his shoulders. The tight squeeze was almost an implicit threat of its own. "Don't mind us, Spooky," he said, the nickname in obnoxiously stressed English as it almost always was. "I'm just teaching my friend here how to walk. The poor kid just doesn't know how to do it! Heartbreaking, ain't it?" Goro's smile was so plastic that a wax museum would have rejected him for lacking authenticity. It was almost impressive how slimy his effort at playing this off felt. Then again, was he even playing it off? From the way he angled his smile at Evie, he seemed to almost be expecting that she'd be in on the "joke."

Raising an eyebrow, the girl stared at Goro's attempt at a nickname. "Ghost?" Evie repeated, in accent-laced English. Why Ghost, of all things? That didn't even sound interesting! Though, it was somewhat befitting. "Creative," she hummed, with a hint of sarcasm. No, it really wasn't creative, in the slightest! But, if Evie could give the bully a focus that wasn't Elliot, she'd keep talking!
Meanwhile, Elsie glanced to Elliot, only flashing a small smile, before returning to her search. If there ended up being an animal in this bush, she was going to hurt Goro and Evie! Why were walking sticks so easily covered by other sticks? This was a problem! Finally, fingers brushed against what she was hunting for, pulling the cane out from the brush. Giving the item a small stress-test by pressing her weight into it, she lifted it and began to walk toward her sister, still keeping a little out of distance from Elliot and his abuser. After all, if she just handed it back to the boy, it would probably get knocked away again!
"It is heartbreaking," Evie continued, giving a small smile. "It's almost as heartbreaking as needing to sleep with a pink, stuffed bunny." Then, there was a thoughtful pause, "which, I'm pretty sure someone here does that. Who was it, again? Elsie, do you own any pink bunnies?"
Tapping the walking stick against her shoulder, Elsie gave a shrug, "nah. No bunnies here."
Furrowing her eyebrows in mock-confusion, the green eyed girl tilted her head. "Weird. I swear, I heard that someone cries if their stuffed rabbit's missing. And, Elliot doesn't seem like the type to sleep with one." It seemed that, even though Elliot didn't know the twins, at least one of them knew him!
"That's funny," Elsie chimed in, placing her free hand on her hip, "Evie doesn't even own any stuffed animals. So that only leaves one of us, huh?"

A genuine compliment? Well that made Goro's day! The otherwise painfully unremarkable looking boy beamed, revealing that one of his front teeth was completely missing. It seemed that he had missed the sarcasm of Evie's words by a country mile. "Thank ya! Been thinkin' on that one for at least a good five minutes," he said, as if that was an accolade and not absolutely shameful. How was this guy a bully, again? He had to be the lowest bottom feeder to mark that as a success.
Of course, if Goro's dirt was low effort bottom feeding, Evie's was Pentagon-level classified information by comparison. Evie slowly, almost torturously dragged out the information on Goro's bedmate, even Elliot finding it hard to stifle a slight smile at the information. Goro himself had his eyes wide with shock as he found out the news, biting down on his lower lip to avoid visibly seething. His fists were wadded up into little balls as he looked back and forth between Elsie, Evie, and Elliot, wondering which of these Es he was going to pound over it first.
Then Elliot decided to chime in. "Don't worry," he said, smiling softly at Goro. "Sleep can be hard sometimes. So I'm glad it makes you feel better."
Pity. Pity from the kid that he was bullying. Or was it understanding from the lowest of the low? Goro looked downright baffled, trying to figure out what the hell Elliot's game was. With how his eyes crossed and his jaw gaped, he almost looked like a cartoon. Nevertheless, he quickly shook his head to regroup himself, a "cool" smirk replacing the previous dumbfounded expression. "Yeah, see? My boy here gets me," Goro said, painfully wrenching his grip around Elliot's shoulders at the word 'boy.' "So what if I sleep with a bunny? It's comfy. I'm secure." It was. He wasn't. "So why don't you bunnies just hop away and let me and my friend here finish our lesson, eh?" Dear god, what a terrible comeback. Goro really was in trouble here.
Evie served that ball, and Elliot had set it. Just which of the three would spike it in the face of this clearly shaken up bully?

Okay, how did anyone get bullied by a moron like this? It was just nonsense! The inside of his head had to be completely vacant! "I could tell," she chimed, with a tight-lipped smile. At least the next few minutes were full of more interesting reactions than anything else. If Evie actually had to have a real conversation with Goro, she'd probably injure herself in an attempt to get out of it!
"Actually, I don't think he's yours," Elsie pointed out, shifting her grip on the boy's walking stick. "We were thinking that we'd like him to come with us."
"We promised his brother that we would walk Elliot home today," the older twin added, as a blatant lie. Surely, Elliot would know that Isaac couldn't have talked to the sisters! But, Goro wouldn't necessarily know that! "But, if you'd like us to go ahead of you, we can teach you a lesson about keeping your main-floor window open. I really wouldn't mind starting my collection with such a cute stuffed animal. Your home's along the way, anyway, isn't it?"
The warranted a curious hum from her sibling, who tilted their head, "it's not like you can even start a collection, when you take scissors to all of your plushies after, like, a day." Was Goro's beloved 'pet' going to suffer a similar fate? Almost definitely, if Evie had her way with it!
Green eyes shifted, 'innocently' glancing away from her sister. "Well, I mean, I could play with Elliot, or I could play with a stuffed animal. I really don't mind, either way, but I want one of them."
Meanwhile, Elsie was starting to get bored with the attempt to just talk to Goro, shooting a look to Elliot. "Hey, are you going to be heartbroken if I accidentally break your stick? I'll buy you a new one, if I do." It was probably for the best to prepare, in case the bully lashed out anyway, right?

Wait, was Elsie just taking his target away? That was so unfair! The others were always taking the good targets on him. He finally finds the easiest prey in the school, and now these older foreign girls just made him theirs? "Hey, I saw him first," Goro huffed, his cheeks puffing out rather obviously. "You two gotta get your own. Or at least wait your turn!"
Then Evie mentioned Elliot's older brother. Immediately Goro looked to the bushes, as if afraid Isaac would come careening out and bash him upside the head with a book. Part of why the bros had remained so bully-free was because an onlooker at the Shibuya River mentioned Isaac taking out someone twice his weight with nothing but a Monster Manual. Every few months the story took another evolution, and Goro was now expecting a kid who took down an entire gang just because he had a bad day. Needless to say, Elliot looked quite grateful at the distraction, sliding out from Goro's shoulders and stumbling a bit closer to Elsie. She wasn't a bully. She couldn't have been!
Of course, any innocence that Elliot's new heroes had was slowly starting to melt away as they began making threats of their own. Evie knew an oddly in-depth amount about home invasion, and Elsie seemed prepared to disembowel all of Goro's stuffed animals after being let in. That was a little harsh. Sure, it was being done to a bully that had caused Elliot so much flak, but it was also really harsh. Had Elliot been more aware about word choice, Evie wanting to "play with" him might have also caught his eye, but thankfully he was far too busy focusing on not being clobbered.
Goro's eye twitched a little as he folded his arms, trying to make his 5'2" frame look the least bit imposing. "Go ahead, try it!" he said, voice quivering slightly. "See if I care." How obviously he did.
Elsie seemed to have other ideas in mind, though. Elliot shot her a somewhat concerned look as she asked about "accidentally" breaking his walking stick. "I'd really prefer if you didn't," he quickly whispered, not wanting to be stuck far less mobile until he got a new one. "But . . . thank you for showing up. I really appreciate it."

"We're not patient people," Elsie was quick to point out, with Evie nodding. "And, we did get our own. You're just in the way of him." This was given an added gesture toward the bullied boy. "I mean, if you'd rather, you could be our new toy. But, we don't like you." Not that they had any reason to like Elliot! Heck, Elsie probably still didn't know Elliot's name! "So, you're really not going to like what we'll do to you."
To this, Evie gave a thoughtful tilt of her head, placing a finger against her cheek. "You could carry me to school every day. That would be nice." Were the twins legitimately considering turning a bully into their playthings?
Rather than continuing in this method, Evie made a small nod toward Elliot, to catch her sister's attention. As her younger sibling slipped in to help Elliot. Using one hand to offer the cane back, she moved the other arm to wrap around the boy's side, in some attempt to speed up his movement and bring him closer toward Evie.
"Sure. We'll make sure to visit next time you take away our company," the older twin hummed, as a less-than-innocent smile slipped across her lips. "Unless, you'd rather us take your BunBun and Elliot in one day." Despite the candy-coated tone, it should be obvious that Evie wasn't always as sweet as she sounded!
Giving a small shrug, Elsie flashed a smile to Elliot. "I mean, I wouldn't break it on purpose. But, this guy kind of was just hurting you." Then, there was a pause, as the red-eyed girl raised an eyebrow, "make sure to thank Evie after all this. She's the one that insisted." After all, Evie was the one that was still focusing on Goro, while Elsie was paying attention to keeping Elliot away from him! She probably wasn't listening to the thank you!
Er, well, okay, she probably was. But, Elsie would rather Evie be given a proper chance to respond to it, at some point!

Yep. These two were staking their claim really hard, claiming Elliot as their new "toy" like that. Judging by what they had to say about disliking Goro, it sounded like if a toy displeased them things tended to get a bit rough. A bit of nervous sweat started to form on Goro's brow, and even Elliot looked a little bit worried. Did Goro really deserve this? Sure, he picked on Elliot despite Elliot's attempts at showing sympathy, and whined whenever he didn't get his way, and tended to leech off of anyone who would even give him an inch, and - okay, yeah, maybe Goro deserved this. "Y . . . you two are real Freaks, you know that?" he stammered out, his insult in English just like all of his other ones were. Was he that kind of guy who thought "cursing" an English made him cooler?
The "freaks" didn't seem to stop there. They were already corralling Elliot away as they spoke, and Evie seemed quite intent on making off with Usa the first chance she got. How the hell did a cute smile and sweet voice like that terrify Goro so badly? He took a few, shaky steps back, not wanting Evie out of his vision but almost scared to make proper eye contact with her. His fingers rolled around his palm, balling into a fist and un-balling, as if debating whether he should give her a proper pounding or not. Ah, forget it! There were three of them to his one, even if one of them was Idiot. Worst case scenario they could always take the useful part of him (his walking stick) and use it to hurt him.
Goro turned tail and ran, calling over his shoulder. "Fine! Take him! Enjoy your new boyfriend, Freaks!" he called. When someone had to play the "lol you're dating" card as a sad attempt a bon mot, it was clear that they had lost the war along with the battle.
Elliot let out an audible sigh of relief as Goro was gone, now having been shepherded to Evie by Elsie. Before even having the chance to ponder how to best thank the girl instinct took over. He gave her a quick, gentle hug, surprisingly warm for being over in a flash. What? You told him to properly thank her, Elsie! "Thank you so much," he said, immediately looking more normal now that all of the tension in his stance had melted out. "I was starting to get worried that with how close we lived to each other, he'd get . . . bolder.
It's really nice to meet you guys, by the way."

While Evie only gave a smile to the 'insult', Elsie placed a hand on her hip and raised an eyebrow. "At least we're not trying to sound cool by using insults in a random language." Says the German girl, speaking in Japanese. Whatever. She wasn't really insulting Goro! Just stating the truth! So, it couldn't be that hypocritical!
But, it looked like the duo would win this argument without the need of violence. Which, was kind of disappointing in Elsie's opinion, but hey, it was probably for the best! With Elliot safe for the time being, and the bully apparently deciding that Evie's threat was worrying enough to ditch his current target, Elsie raised a hand to wave. "We will! Have fun with your bunny!"
With that done, Elsie turned to speak, but found herself silenced, watching her sister completely freeze at the hug. And, almost immediately, the younger of the twins burst into laughter. This was unexpected, somehow! Then again, she didn't know Elliot in the slightest!
Meanwhile, Evie was turning various shades of pink, trying to process the hug. But, it was already over, and she had been given absolutely no time to react! "You're welcome?" Yes, apparently that can be made into a question!
Hearing Elliot's statement, the girls glanced at each other, while Evie still tried to control the blush on her face. Elsie was the first to pipe up with, "Does he do that a lot?" Probably. Otherwise Elliot wouldn't have phrased things like that! Or, at least, Elsie would assume that he wouldn't!
Rather than following up the question with any other questions, Evie gave a nod, while adding, "it's nice to meet you, too." Even if the circumstances weren't really all that nice!

Between the blush on her face, the way she froze up, and the way her "your welcome" almost shifted into a question, Evie honestly looked really adorable right now. The faintest hint of pink lit up Elliot's face as well as the thought came and went, otherwise unacknowledged. He looked curiously towards Elsie as she started laughing, smiling shyly in return. He figured if he was in Evie's shoes right now, Isaac would've been right here laughing at him in return.
Oh, wait. Right now he couldn't be.
A bit of sorrow flickered in his eyes as Goro was brought up. "He's lonely," was the first thing that Elliot said, kicking at a pebble near his feet and watching it bounce down the road. "He's not usually the one doing this, but he's always been trying to get involved whenever others try. I think he's hoping it'll make more people like him, because whenever he says something he starts looking at the others. Like, trying to see if they approve." That was oddly attentive for someone usually so carefree! "I tried to be his friend. But I don't think that's what he's looking for."
At least in spite of that, he had made not one but two new friends today. Even if some of the stuff that they said still confused Elliot a little, they were also nice to him and really helpful. Maybe this would all end up okay in the end. However, there was just one thing he had to ask. "So . . . what does all this new toy stuff mean?" he asked, having apparently done a stellar job of listening thus far.

Post by Elsie and Evie on Sept 10, 2017 5:17:15 GMT
Was Elliot really going to try to justify Goro's actions with loneliness? Placing a hand on her hip, Elsie gave a huff. "That's still no reason to pick on you. If he wants friends, he should try to be likable, or something." Advice from a girl like Elsie probably wouldn't be much help. It wasn't like the blondes had many friends, either. Then again, they chose to be that way!
But, now that the laughter had faded, and Evie was subtly adjusting her shirt, the younger twin raised an eyebrow, and exchanged glances with her sister. "Toy?" Red-tipped hair fell forward, while the girl tilted her head from side-to-side. "What're you talking about?" Was she playing dumb, or was that a serious question?
Probably a serious question, considering it was followed up with, "I think you misunderstood," from the other sister. "We didn't actually mean any of that." Ah well. At least it sounded like Elliot was safe! For now, at least! Though, the twins certainly weren't going to promise that they would be around to save him, if this were to happen another time. That would just be sticking their necks out way too much! And, it would draw too much attention to the duo.
"Unless that's your kind of thing," Elsie followed up, teasingly, while placing her hands behind her head. "Who're you, again?"
This only caused the older of the twins to let out a sigh, and shake her head, deciding it was probably best if Elliot just told Elsie his name. After all, it seemed that Evie saying it just wasn't sinking in! If only Els would listen sometime!

Elliot looked down at the ground somewhat as Elsie huffed. Maybe it was just the shadow cast from his hair, but there seemed to be a sort of regret hanging over his eyes. "It's no excuse at all," he said, voice strangely serious. "I've seen a lot of people try to hurt others like that. And it isn't okay. Whenever I see it happen to someone else I'm always sure to step in, at least." Maybe it would also be important to mention that in those cases Elliot was usually a badass shark-dragon with a tail that spit fire, or maybe a guardian snake who wielded a holy lance like an expert duelist. Elliot-as-Elliot, on the other hand, was more capable of gently bumping someone's ankle with his walking stick until the stopped. Against most bullies, it was not very effective.
If push came to shove, would Elliot have Digivolved to protect someone he cared about in the human world? The issue had thankfully never come up.
Elliot seemed confused, yet somewhat reassured, by the toy business being settled. At least, of course, until Elsie dug it back up. What kind of thing would that be? Unless, of course, she meant in the sense that Karin and Jeanne thought of. Welp. That contextualization got Elliot blushing a bright red as he shyly looked down at his feet, murmuring a soft "No thanks." If the senior tamer had accomplished something during her day of cheering Elliot up, it was also leaving him forever ruined by the idea of anything suggestive. Good job, Karin!
At least he fought the sudden embarrassment enough to look back up at Elsie, tilting his head curiously. Didn't the two already know? After all, they had been the ones who stepped in to save him. They had also used his name quite a few times today. Or, at least, Evie did. Maybe her sister just didn't pay much attention, if her already forgetting about the toy comment was any indication. Nevertheless, he figured it'd at least be polite to answer. "My name's Elliot," he said, a bit more confidence returning to his voice. Thankfully, unless actively teased Elliot had a tendency to bounce back really fast. "And I think . . . Essa and Elvie?" he added, looking at Elsie with the first name and Evie for the second.
Well, he almost had it, at least. Maybe he'd be paying more attention now that he wasn't literally in the death grip of a bully.

Elsie gave a small shrug at the expression that Elliot was giving. "You can't save everyone," she pointed out, rather carelessly. After all, if it had been up to her, they wouldn't have even saved Elliot! If only they'd known that he was more than capable of saving himself. Then, Elsie would have been especially frustrated about trying to save this boy!
It was a shame that he wouldn't take up the offer! "You're missing out," the girl chimed, with a crooked smile. Meanwhile, her sister shot her an unenthused look. No. No, he really was not missing out on anything! Except regrets, probably! Once she'd received the boy's name, Elsie let out a small click from her mouth, "that sounds familiar."
"Likely, considering I already told you it," her sister commented, with a sigh. Why couldn't anyone listen when she spoke? Or, at least, when it was important enough to listen to?
But, both teens cringed, hearing Elliot's attempt at their names. Exchanging glances, Evie deeply frowned, while Elsie stuck her tongue out in disgust.
"Wrong!" "Incorrect."
It seemed that neither of them were fond of their new titles. "Evie," was the first to be corrected, before the more primly styled of the two made a motion toward her sister, "that is Elsie." With any luck, Elliot would remember them! Otherwise, he might find himself a new set of bullies!
Trying to pretend that she hadn't just had her name butchered, Elsie continued on with a new train of thought. "So! Elliot," she began, placing hands on her hips. "Where are you off to? Home? Or someplace else?"

It took some major biting of his tongue for Elliot's face to not entirely collapse upon hearing that he couldn't save everybody. He had been taught that lesson several times earlier. If he could have beat back the Reaper's corruption, patched up Maia's heart, and stopped his brother form regressing into an imp, that would have been perfect! Instead, he was stuck here picking up as many pieces as possible in the real world, while doing his best to avoid the Digital World as much as possible. He took a brief breath, trying to keep as little of his irritation and hurt from showing as possible. "I'm aware," he finally said. "But that doesn't mean I should just stand by when I can help, right?"
Still, at least he wouldn't get himself killed over it. Not anymore.
Elliot, too, cringed upon realizing how wrong he was with their names. "Right, my bad," he said. "Can't say I was focused, considering." It was hard to pay attention to names mentioned offhandedly when a bully was looming over him ominously, even one as pathetic as Goro. He followed Evie's motions as she identified the two of them, nodding with each name. "Got it now," he said once she was finished. See, Evie? Somebody listens to you!
Where was Elliot going, anyway? Probably home. But he always goes home, and then what does he do? Kind of just sit around and sulk? Miss his brother? As much as the loss was still raw, Elsie's question reminded him that he was really kind of just spinning his wheels. "I think I was just going to go wander around for a bit, really," he admitted. "Clear my head some."
He paused, a bit of inspiration striking him. "How about you? Where are you guys going?" he asked.
