It was an odd state of being. To be living one minute and then the next be living another life. To not have the memories of that life, missing something that makes you...you. A damaged life.
OS found herself awakening, dazed and confused. Albeit cosy and safe. Her eyes flashed open and she saw a bright surge of pink. Wherever she was, each of the walls had been painted in bright pink. An array of oddly-shaped creatures stared at her with large button eyes. Somewhere large and others small. Never seen Digimon like that before, OS thought to herself. Moving slowly from the comfort of wherever she had landed. The odd creatures didn’t move at all. Even when she moved right up close to it and glared. A small part of her brain told her to burn it. To torch it into smoulders while another larger part told her not too. Heavy footsteps drew close and a cry of the highest pitch. “No not my dolls. Bad imaginary dragon friend.” The someone pulled the creature away from OS and sat it up on a shelf where it continued to stare down as empty as before.
OS turned and stared at the someone. “A human. You are a human, correct. Two legs, two arms, bulbous eyes, attitude, high pitched voice. Only a human fits that profile,” she said quickly. The girl was small and in human terms, rather cute. “Aww, you silly. I gots a silly friend.” Without warning, she wrapped her arms around her body and squeezed. “What exactly is this?”
“It’s a hug, silly. I gotta teach you all da ‘fings.” For the next hour, OS had to endure the ‘teachings’ of the girl who had introduced herself as Risa. A Japanese Human. Whatever that means. Although it did provide some incite into the human world and how it worked. It was very different from her own world, at least. There was boxes which people used for transport instead of flying or some kind of teleport called Cars. There was a person who ran their country as their leader called a ‘Prime Minister’ and would tell them how to live. Money was thin and easily ripped or torn but could still be used to buy things…
Before, OS could interrupt, more footsteps sounded around them. A series of heavy bangs running up to this prison of a room, she was in. “RISA! Where are you?”
Risa turned her head and then turned it back towards OS. “Let’s play hide and seek. You hide, okay?” Without any further ado, a blanket was thrown over her head and hid her entire body. “No talkin’ okay?”
Another human stomped into the room and then looked directly at Risa and said in a careless voice. “I’m off out. There is some food on the table, so you won’t starve. Just be good until dad gets back.” The orders came officially and strictly. OS wondered if this was a Prime Minister. Risa merely nodded and smiled. However as she turned to leave, she noticed the blanket sticking up oddly.” Risa shook her head and tried to shoo her away but it was no good. “No, its just a blanket and a stuffed animal.” Whatever that mean’t
Ignoring her sister’s pleas, Jun moved her arm forward, reaching slowly out towards the folds of blanket. To OS; the humans hand moved in literal slow motion, inching ever closer to the spot in which she hid. As her hand gripped onto the edges of soft silken blanket – a bouncy chip-tune exuded from Jun’s pocket. Sighing, she released the blanket and shoved her hand, deep into her blazer. Pulling out the sleek mobile phone, she slid her finger on the front to answer it. A loud but muffled voice spoke from the receiver. After a minute Jun replied in slightly more disgruntled voice, “Alright, I’m coming. Calm down, will you! Sheesh”
For a second, Jun looked back at the still blanket and then across to her sister who was half-smiling, half grimacing. She stood and stated carefully, “Just don’t leave the apartment, okay? Otherwise, you’ll end up on milk cartons,” and quickly left the room. After a few minutes, the front door slammed shut followed by some footsteps moving away from the apartment.
“Phew, that was a close one,” Risa said, pulling the blanket away from OS. “For an imaginary friend, you sure look real. If everyone in my class could see you, they’d all want one.”
OS ignored this and sat up and took a long look around the room.
The girl sat on the bed, her legs so short they hung limply over the edge. OS turned to look at her and finally allowing his cloak to fall, revealing his white dragonic face, he turned to stare at Risa. His eyes beamed on sight with the computer which sat on the desk opposite them. “May I?”
“’Kay but I dunno how,” she said, giggling a little. OS clicked the power button and the computer burst into life. “Hmm… I wonder. Was there a reason I was summoned here. To this world…” OS said, out loud. Tapping away on the keyboard, he began to scour the ‘Human Internet’ for clues to why and how. “Nothing. What a waste of time.”
“You human. Tell me have there been any… human problems in need of a digimon’s assistance lately?” Turning on the spot to face Risa, she smiled as the light which hung above them flickered off and then back on in a second. “Interesting, some kind of electrical assimilation with minor feedback which is running up and down the apartment building. Let’s say there are...” After peering out of the window for a second, she continued. “Say thirty-six apartments. Then if something was absorbing energy – it may need somewhere out of the way otherwise it’d draw too much attention to the fact.”
Risa looked back at OS with a dazed and confused look on her face. “Right. You’re human, I forgot. To make it simple. Whatever is drawing electricity, it’s doing in a way, purposely. So it can’t be caught. But it got too excited.”
“Come on, girl. We have a building to save.”
