Haley was sure that until just recently the world made at least relative sense. Gravity kept you on the ground, the sun rose to the east, set in the west and things generally followed a semi logical structure. Of course, coming to Japan from America at such a young age was a big enough mindscrew and culture shock in of itself but that was seemingly nothing compared to waking up in a strange dark forest that looked like something straight from Tolkein's imagination, dense towering trees in every direction almost completely blocking out the sun save for a scarce few scattered shafts of luminosity piercing defiantly through the lush green canopy.
Was this yet another dream? Yes. Surely this was just one of the many dark places the girl's mind enjoyed to lay out in front of her every night when she closed her eyes. That said, this time at least it didn't seem too horrific as of yet. There were no big scary monsters, no twisted renditions of her mother, nothing coming to chase her, just silence as she got to her feet and surveyed the scene. This forest seemed... off to her. Everything here did. She couldn't quite put her finger on it but the most glaring detail were the trees themselves. Superficially perhaps they looked almost like massive oak trees with their majestic branches swaying gently to and fro in the breeze, but, they were seemingly not at the same time. Again, she just couldn't put her finger on it. Something in the leaves, something in the bark. It was all just... off... somehow. An almost uncanny valley effect.
"Hello? Is anyone there?"
Her voice just echoed out into the endless sea of green before fading off to the near silence of the forest. Not a sound to be heard but the rustling of the wind through the trees and the occasional wooden creak. She took a deep breath, organising her thoughts. This was clearly "natural" growth. Not some plantation job. Weather didn't seem too cold or too warm, and the trees indicated a "temperate" forest on steroids. She could only make vague guesses as to where she might be. For all she knew she could somehow be in Europe right now, or even back in America, as unlikely as that was, but this was -probably- still Japan. Nothing made sense, no way in hell she could have sleepwalked all that way!
Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye she spotted something far less natural looking. A small device, matte black and about the right size to conveniently fit into her palm. She picked it up, squinting at it. It looked old. Not old, as in sitting out in the elements for years upon years but old as in when it was manufactured. It wasn't some fancy smartphone or the like. Nonetheless, it had an antenna. Perhaps it was a radio? It had a sort of... walkie talkie look about it. Perhaps pressing random buttons would help? That -always- helps!
click.
click click.
CLICKCLICKCLICKCLICKCLICKCLICK...
"Work. you. antique. piece. of. shi-"
Apparently mashing random buttons DID help! Somewhat. It was definitely -on-, that much she could tell, but all that was coming up on screen were a bunch of weird symbols. Maybe it was broken? This was probably some stupid kid's toy that someone dropped. Haley started to get the distinct sense that she was wasting her time, but, there was still the hope, the distinct glimmer of hope, that this was some way, some how, a communication device. At the very least it didn't feel -cheap-. It had a little bit of heft to it for sure. Her thoughts turned to pawning the thing off for a bit of extra cash. This thing was probably useless beyond that, right? ... Why was it beeping and glowing?
The weird symbols had turned to just a single pixelated arrow seemingly bathed in a strange yellow gold glow from an absurdly powerful backlight. Was this perhaps some sort of compass? If that was the case this would be the most stupidly overcomplicated compass Haley had ever seen in her life but hey. Beggars can't be choosers, and neither could people randomly lost in the woods. Nonetheless, while knowing where north was, was certainly useful... it still really didn't mean jack if she didn't have a map or anything else to go off. Sure, she could head north now. Woop de doo, where did north lead?
Weeeeeell...
Screw it. North it is. At least it was a constant pointer. In forests like this with no real visual landmarks, it was far too easy to get turned around. With this, she knew that she was going in what was vaguely a straight line. That though, would have seemingly made all too much sense, as after following the directions of the "compass" for a good ten minutes on the lookout for both shelter and potential sources of fresh water, it started beeping once again, the bright screen flashing over and over. Was it trying to indicate something? The arrow did seem to be jumping around a little as she moved. She held the device in front of her, staring at it as she made a step to the left. The arrow moved. Then to the right. It moved again. It wasn't just pointing north. It was pointing -AT- something. She was tempted to just drop the... whatever it was, and run off in the opposite direction. This was all too convenient. Waking up in a random forest with no idea how on earth she got there, with a thingy CONVENIENTLY nearby that just so happened to point to a specific spot in said forest. Instead though, curiosity got the better of her. She wasn't just going to fall into their trap though, oh no, she was going to flank around where this arrow pointed. If anyone set this up, they'd surely expect that she would just blindly follow it.
The beeping though, got louder. The flashing more frequent, how was she meant to be stealthy with this racket! Off you fu-... wait. Something caught her eye. It looked like a giant egg. Perhaps an ostrich egg? But... what would an ostrich egg be doing out here? She walked up to it, being careful to not make too much sound, not that it mattered with that damn beeping, but, the thought was there as she walked towards the strange object.
It was just in ground clutter, not even in a nest. A plain white egg, certainly about the size, shape and weight of what she assumed an ostrich egg to be having not seen one in real life and only in pictures. Again though like the trees around it, it was just uncanny. It was too perfect, too neat, too smooth as she picked it up and examined it, before gently putting it down, coming to a sudden realisation.
"Whatever laid this thing's gonna be big... and pissed."

Rinji pattered along the forest floor, his many legs rustling the leaf litter. Uncharacteristically, he hissed to himself, annoyed. Being woken up in the middle of the day by an angry Monochromon trampling your home would be enough to irritate anyone.
Now here he was, grumpily searching for a new sleeping place. He normally wasn't too fussy about where he slept, but he'd much rather not be woken up by massive, destructive dinosaurs again. This part of the forest was perfect. It was dark, shaded, and thick.
In fact, it was so thick and lush that he was completely unaware of the human girl only a few yards away from him. Normally, he was more aware than this, but being grumpy and tired wasn't doing his senses any favours. The wind was also surprisingly still, nary a breeze to carry any scent to his generally sensitive antennae.
Completely unaware of the forest stranger, he stalked through the foliage, only yards away from her, looking for any abandoned burrows or leaf piles he could hide under. He yawned, rows of sharp teeth showing from the innards of his mouth. Perhaps he should just give up and sleep in a tree like the Biyomon did; they never had any problems like this.
Instead, he turned around to continue his search, before finally seeing the human. Unsure whether she'd been watching him or not, he froze. He saw that she was carrying a digi-egg in her hands. Was she a thief? Didn't the Hawkmon nest around these parts?
He wasn't normally so brash as to leap to conclusions or confront somebody like this, but he found himself pulling a rather unpleased expression. Still, he didn't speak up, and only watched her, waiting to see what she would do. She was also a pretty small human, from what he knew about them. But if she was a thief, it would likely become quickly apparent.

Haley wasn't going to steal the egg. She wasn't stupid. A bird big enough to lay that sort of egg would no doubt beat the crap out of her if she was to mess with it. Instead, she was about to move on, but, the digivice just kept pointing towards it. She lifted it up again, squinting at it. Just what -was- this thing and why was it pointing towards this random egg? It was a -big- egg. Which was all the more reason to not stay here in case whatever laid it returned.
Suddenly though, her sharp hearing picked up something. A rustling and hissing. A snake! Probably no need to worry unless it's actually venomous of course but nonetheless, the girl felt a lot safer by picking up a particularly long and robust pointy stick. If the "snake" wanted to tangle, well, she had what really was more like a small branch which in her mind at least, would hopefully be enough to keep it at bay. Nonetheless, time to back the heck away from the sound. Stepping on "snek" was not exactly in one's best interests.
She visually scanned the foliage, trying to see just what the heck it was...
It was -not- a snake. It was -SERIOUSLY- not a snake. Nope. Instead it was the stuff of nightmares.
"Gah! What the f*ck is that!?""
She tried to remain calm, tried to remain in control of the situation. The former wasn't really working but at least the latter she could make an attempt at as she held the pointy thing in its direction, slowly backing up in the hope that if it charged, it would get a face-full of improvised spear. She at least had enough of her wits about her to realise that this... whatever the hell it is, would probably try to run her down if she simply turned and fled.

Whilst all of this was happening, there was an unseen third party lurking somewhere.
...See, Coolmon actually knew why she came here this time. She was searching for something mostly to satiate some curiosity. A deleted Digimon haunting the forest? While that was kind of spooky...It was also somewhat exciting.
After all, who hadn't seen a ghost before? Probably her. That's...probably why she came, actually.
However, a few questions needed to be answered.
Namely...Well, she pushed through some foliage and found some things.
A very familiar and vaguely serpentine crimson thing. And a human.
...Aaaand also an egg. Huh. Nifty! "Oh, hi there. Didn't know forests had humans too!" Coolmon gave a wave to the human, trying to appear friendly. Well, if she weren't friendly-looking...that'd be weird, considering she was a CUTEmon.

Joining, by popular demand
Katsura was walking through the forest again, in her arms she was carrying Nyao the Blackgatomon. As of now Katsura knew most of the forest by memory, she really needs to expand her ideas of travel places one of these days. She noticed that a cutemon was lurking in a bush, this made her curious as what this was about. It turns out that another human being had recently joined the digital world. It looked like the egg haven't even hatched yet but it also looked like she was in trouble.
Katsura walked near them as she heard what amounted to a scream in distress to see if Haley needed any help. Now she stood behind Rinji with her big red eyes waiting to hear from Haley what made her scream like that. Katsura, ironically seemed to have forgotten that the presence of Nyao is not easing the situation much.

One thing Rinji hadn't expected the human to do was scream profanities at him and raise their stick in defence. He actually felt a little bit hurt from the statement. However, there were other things at hand. Namely, the egg still held within the girl's arms. Was it really hers?
"T-that egg - if it isn't yours, y-you should give it back," he stuttered out, trying to sound tougher than he really was. He really wasn't doing a very good job, sounding more nervous than assertive.
Before he could say anything more, a familiar white(or was she more pink?) bunny emerged from the undergrowth, her trademark scarf trailing behind her. Of all places, Rinji had never expected to see her again, let alone here in the forest!
He saw her greet the human in her usual charming fashion, easily breaking the ice. Despite the circumstances, Coolmon's presence actually helped calm him somewhat. At least there was somebody else here now.
"Coolmon?" He asked, still hoping he'd remembered her name right. He hadn't forgotten about the frightened human, but the surprise of the little digimon's sudden appearance merited a response, at least. Perhaps she could help smooth things over?
As the scene unfolded, Rinji was distinctly unaware of the other human girl standing almost directly behind him. The girl's black hair and dark clothing easily blended into the surroundings, and he almost completely missed her presence. That is, until he caught the scent of a BlackGatomon. He wasn't actually sure of the digimon's species based on scent alone, but it was quite distinct.
Turning his head around, his eyes widened in surprise at both the extra digimon and her human companion. The forest was starting to feel a lot more crowded than it had a few minutes ago, and the vague thought of being ambushed brushed past his mind.

The girl wasn't holding the egg any more, she had put it down when she acquired her makeshift weapon, steadying it in two hands. Haley was staring down the Scolomon, biting back her fear and standing steadfast, standing firm, the "weapon" pointed like a spear towards it until... It spoke. Her expression turned from fear masked with what was meant to be an intimidating glare, to outright confusion. Just what was this creature? Was that thing talking just in her head? Was... there another strange talking creature?
She glanced to the side, only momentarily to keep her focus more on what she perceived to be the biggest threat here for the moment, that being the huge centipede looking thing. It was yet another creature she couldn't identify. It seemed once again alien. A strange pink creature with what seemed to be headphones. One thing she could tell though, the massive arthropod sounded almost... intimidated, by her? Perhaps she could get some answers if she used that to her advantage? She cleared her throat, steadying herself and spoke in a firm, determined tone, fear slowly turning to rage. She didn't want to push it too far though, Haley was still pretty damn sure that a -giant centipede- was more than capable of ripping her head off.
"What the hell are you, and where the hell am I? Answer me!"
She had barely finished her sentence, when something started to happen. The egg, which until now had been laying dormant on the foliage covered ground, started to shake. Cracks, illuminated by an almost alien glow forming from inside the egg itself as the girl's digivice started to beep, the glow from its screen changing colours until it seemingly came into sync with it, locking in with yet another electronic chime, before an electronic voice started to emit from the archaic looking piece of electronics.
"PARTNER SYNCED. DNA SEQUENCE CONFIRMED. TAMER RECOGNISED. WELCOME, HALEY CAMERON."
She stared at it in disbelief. Just what was it saying? Nothing about this made even the faintest hint of sense. She continued to just stare at the device, almost mesmerised by the patterns and symbols flashing away upon its small screen, before looking back up to the Scolomon... Aaaaaaand then to what was behind it... A black cat? And thank god, what seemed to be an actual human was here.

First things first. Coolmon did not quite notice Katsura, yet. Well, that's not entirely true. She heard something, but she focused more on the Scolomon.
That's right, the. "Hey, Rinji. Nice seeing you again!" She gave a warm smile towards big red before it quickly faded to a very neutral but still somewhat amicable expression.
Coolmon adjusted her scarf as she gave Haley a once-over. What were they? "...I can provide a pretty uniform answer, miss! We're beings called...uh. Digimon. Which is short for digital monster. We are currently in the Server Woods in the Digital World. I...uh. I'm guessing you're new here?"
...Only now did Coolmon realize she might've rustled Haley's jimmies a bit more. "...Please calm down. Just...take a few deep breaths. Nobody here's going to hurt you. Promise! ...I take no responsibility for what's in that egg, though! That's yours. No, really. That's yours."
Coolmon now felt she should cease talking for now. She glanced to Rinji and mouthed, Did I do a good job? She then turned behind herself to wave at Katsura. "Hi! Uh...You look like you -aren't- new here. I think she might need some help that I can't provide." She said, gesturing towards Haley.
At least, that's what she felt. Coolmon never had to deal with jumpy children before.
...Unless you count the Kapurimon village...

Katsura couldn't tell whether Haley was in serious danger, on one hand she looked surrounded by digimon. On the other hand hand the one Rinji, the only champion able to posses a threat acted rather intimidated by her. So instead Katsura just analyzed the situation around the accusation of theft. Katsura just took one look at Haley's digidevice and sighed at Rinji in disapproval. "She's not a thief, it's her partner for life."
Katsura listened to Haley's yelling, the act may do an impression on a centipede but Katsura had seen too much at this point to even batter an eye. "What the hell are you, and where the hell am I? Answer me!" "You are in, oh well."
Katsura didn't get to answer because the cutemon interrupted her. Well since his speech was more or less fulfilling, Katsura just let him carry on until she was specifically spoken to.
"Hi! Uh...You look like you -aren't- new here. I think she might need some help that I can't provide." "That device you got there, it's a proof that you are to receive your new best friend. As soon as they hatch that is. Like my best friend Nyao here." Katsura indicated her Blackgatomon to finish her micro-lecture

Rinji's antennae flattened at the shouting the girl was giving him, her voice hurting his hearing. Thankfully, the noise stopped when the egg started cracking. His eyes widened at its peculiar glowing. He'd never seen a digi-egg start hatching quite like that.
A voice came from the girl's direction, and Rinji listened to it intently.
That voice! It had come from the girl? Rinji squinted, trying to correct his eyesight, and saw that she was also clutching a digivice. The device was talking, and what it said invalidated his previous concerns. So that digimon inside the egg was supposed to be her partner? He'd never seen it happen like that before.
Coolmon had taken most of the control over the situation afterwards, doing a thorough job at explaining Digimon to the girl... Haley, was that her name? When Coolmon looked over to Rinji, he nodded at her, a relieved expression on his face. She was his saviour at this point.
Rinji also wasn't the one to miss the other human's sigh of disapproval, and her own explanation. She honestly hadn't needed to say that to him - it was quite obvious now that the other girl wasn't a thief, and was a newcomer instead. Now he was only feeling worse about his accusations, and even a little shaken, after all was said and done.
He looked to Haley, hoping to offer an apology... without being shouted at. "I'm sorry I scared you; I didn't realise you had a digivice," he said, looking down in guilt. He had to remember that most normal humans didn't like insects, and certainly wouldn't have been appreciative of his accusations.
"A digimon's inside the egg, and since you have a digivice, it means that it has to be your partner." He continued gently from Katsura's explanation, hoping that he'd covered any gaps that might've left the girl with even more questions. He did at least know that much, from what he'd learned in his lifetime.

The situation was certainly starting to feel a little less dangerous, but, no less confusing. Haley slowly lowered her "spear", looking between the various "digimon" assembled around her. None of this was making any sense. Digimon? Digivice? Digital world? Server woods? Was she in a computer? Such a thing was surely not possible, right? She took a couple deep breaths, trying to organise her thoughts, but even with that there was still absolutely nothing making sense. This was probably some sort of weird dream, right? Perhaps she had been watching too many strange Japanese cartoons. Nonetheless, this all felt real.
"Right, so let me get what you're saying straight here. This is a "digital" world. You are all "digimon" whatever the hell that means, that thing and this thing...she gestured to the egg on the ground and the digivice that was still in her hand ... are somehow linked to me. This makes no f*cking sense."
She threw her arms up in frustration, shaking her head before a small noise from the egg turned her attention back to it. It was hatching, and what came out was yet another strange abomination. A red thing, with three strange lumps coming up out of its otherwise rather bloblike and relatively featureless form.
"... Holy sh*t..."
There was a brief pause, the creature just looking up at Haley with its weird "face", before repeating the last expletive Haley said in its rather strange almost childlike voice.
"Sh**************t!"

New best friend. Sounded like a really nice way to put partner down, so…Coolmon guessed it worked. She just nodded at Katsura. “Yep! What she said!” Thankfully, RInji seemed to be relieved at Coolmon (And Cat) slightly taking the pressure off of him. Good, good. That was…something she was good at. Coolmon also ambled over towards Rinjji to pat the Solomon on the back.
“Well, when you really think about it…It really only doesn’t make sense because you’re not from around here. See, back when I was a smaller ‘mon, somebody once told me that people from other places tend to view places we think are perfectly normal as completely weird and vice versa. So…Maybe you’re experiencing that.” She shrugged at Haley…Right when she threw her arms up, and the creature just…hatched.
WOAH! A Punimon.
…She was pretty sure that was a Punimon. “…I don’t know these words you two are saying but they don’t seem very cool…” Coolmon mumbled.

For Katsura there was something special about the first meeting between a human and their partner, something about the way a bond is forged has been driven her for a long time near new tamers in the made. However her obsession with digimon had a dark side, the more obsessed she became the more detached to normal people she became and in turn more alienated from humanity. A symptom of this development was how out of touch Katsura was with why Haley would freak out like that, the digimon was friendly and she got her very own best friend for life, so what's the problem?
"Right, so let me get what you're saying straight here. This is a "digital" world. You are all "digimon" whatever the hell that means, that thing and this thing... are somehow linked to me. This makes no f*cking sense." "I'm... Sigh... A human."
Katsura watched intensely Haley's egg hatch, this was like Christmas for her at this point. During the brief pause between the hatching and Punimon's first word Katsura spoke again. "That's your best friend for life. Now you're just like me."

Coolmon's paw on Rinji's carapace was a comforting gesture. "Thank you," he said quietly, now that she was closer. It was very sweet of her to have stood up for him like that.
What Coolmon said next left Rinji with a thoughtful expression. He remembered one of the digimon at Primary Village saying something familiar to that. Maybe with not quite the same wording, but similar nonetheless. Had they, by chance, heard it from the same 'mon, or was it coincidence?
Either way, it reminded him: the human world was very different from the Digital World. Haley was probably feeling similar to how he'd felt when he'd gotten lost. Being in the 'wrong' world was not a comfortable feeling.
But before his thoughts could continue, the 'shink' of an eggshell cracking caught his antennae. A small Punimon had emerged, bright and healthy. It was, in its own right, quite cute. Hopefully Haley would take to it -
The Punimon interrupted his thoughts once again, with an expletive cry.
"I'm not sure what it means either." He was kind of glad he didn't understand as well, they didn't sound like very nice words.
The other human was also leaving Rinji feeling a little creeped out. At least he knew she was definitely a human. Maybe she just wasn't very good with other humans. Her own digimon must like her for a reason, despite its own quietness.
And then Rinji realised something. "Does anyone have any food? I mean, uh, for the Punimon. If he starts crying..." he trailed off, thinking about the attention that a crying digimon could attract. If worse came to worse, maybe he could find something for it - but if somebody already had food on them, it would make things a lot easier.
Maybe they should start thinking about somewhere safer to talk than a dark forest, as well.

(Sorry about the delay, had some IRL issues to sort out)
"Hey, don't say that."
"Why?"
"It's a, uhm, it's a bad word."
"You said it!"
"I know I ffffuu...lipping well said it. Just, don't you start, okay?"
"Oh! Oh! You were about to say fuc..."
"No!"
"Okay..."
Haley took a deep breath, looking around to the gathered creatures and the one human. At least, what looked and sounded like a human. The girl wasn't entirely sure if she could trust that right now, but what the hell else did she have to go off. She wasn't entirely sure about this place either. These things seemed friendly but if this place was so completely chock full of these nightmare creatures, who's to say whether or not at least one of them that hasn't yet revealed itself was hostile?
"Right... You're a human. Okay. At least we cleared that up. How do we get out of this forest? Hell. How do I get home from here?"
