But it's just an egg (Library, Open)

Among the strangest things Alexa had found in her short time in Japan, the weirdest thing by far had been the over-sized egg she’d found in her bedroom returning home from her school yesterday. It’d been a long day of trying to find the right words and right answers, so finding a mysterious egg that some reverse thief had left was not exactly how she’d had hoped to be welcomed back home. She asked everyone on the floor, in broken Japanese, if they’d left an egg somewhere. No one had. So now, she had this 1-foot tall purple egg with blue circles on it. And there was something moving inside. And it was warm.
All that she’d learned in life so far taught her that when she’d experienced something she was unsure about, she’d best go to the library. And so, to the library she went, egg in tow. She surprisingly didn’t get that many stares. Either people were too invested in their own research, or perhaps they’d just seen weirder things than an egg the size of a person’s arm.
Alexa perused the meager English section and found one book on birds and one on reptiles. Surely the egg had to be in one of those books. She took one more book out on mammals - can’t forget Australia, now. Books and egg in hand, she toddled over to a free table. She put the egg on a small towel she brought, hoping to steady it and prevent it from falling while she was researching. Sure, she could put it in a chair, but what if someone want to sit down? No, she didn’t want any squished eggs over here.
She positioned the egg on the table, then opened up her first book. It was full of interesting facts, but no eggs matched the wonder egg she’d found. Well, on to the next book.
Hours passed without much success. Sure, she learned about cobras and geese and even platapi, but no weird eggs. It was getting to be dinner time. Alexa’s stomach growled. For a moment, she looked hungrily at the egg. No, no. Something was inside. Something was going to hatch. Besides, those vending machines over there seemed promising.
She patted the egg gently, before getting up and going to the machines.
Maybe she should have thought better of leaving the egg alone….

If he had to read another book on proper titles and such, Edgar would probably rip his hair out, on top of having to read more on other subjects everyone else was studying his teacher had decided he needed a book on all the titles and pronunciations in Japanese. He couldn't study at home because he was sure his new 'Partner' Would want to talk to him about the whole digimon thing, he had quite a lot to say on that subject. The best solution was to go out in public, only it seemed that Edgar forgot that his partner could talk in people's heads, and that was his normal conversation tactic. So while walking over to a library he got quite a lot of words in his head, digimon, digital world, Xros the works. And Edgar couldn't yell at him to stop because then he'd look like an idiot talking to his backpack, he thought about using his phone but he was sure that'd look even more suspicious.
Finally making it to his destination he quickly walked through the doors going over to the English section, while he could read Japanese it would make his life so much easier if he could just get one in English to read, his native language was a lot easier on him and his eyes. Finding a free table he quickly sat down tossing his backpack up on the table, forgetting that the tiny Angel was in there, whoops. He didn't say anything so he was probably fine.
Opening the book he found the young kid was finally going to get some actual studying done before the tiny Angel pretty much screamed in his head. "GENERAL, GENERAL OVER THERE LOOK!" The small digimon screamed in his head, luckily only Edgar could hear it telepathy in all but still, sounded like someone was shouting right in his ears. "What, What're you talking about Artemis," Edgar asked looking up to where the digimon could be pointing at, and finding him staring at a rather large egg sitting upright on a towel, what?
"It's an egg, oh it might be someone who'll work for you, General go look at it, poke it." The small digimon asked pointing a stubby hand at the egg in question. Edgar slowly got up, taking his backpack with him tossing it around his shoulder before walking over to the thing in question. It was indeed an egg, tall purple with blue circles. But why was it just, sitting here. And where did the towel come from?

If there was one thing she loved about her new homeland, it was the amazing variety of snacks Japan had. Alexa spent a good few minutes deciding what to get, nearly forgetting about the egg. She eventually picked out a milk latte and some seaweed chips. What a wonderful, strange world it was.
Fully satisfied, Alexa headed back to her study spot, sipping down some of the latte. She hadn't expected another person to be looking at the egg. She stopped. Were they up to trouble? Or perhaps they knew something about the egg? Either way, it would be in her best interest to get back to her egg.
She walked up to the other person. It was a young boy, maybe just about a preteen. He was Caucasian like she was. Blond hair and a nice backpack. Was he a student? Maybe he spoke English? There were quite a few foreigners in this area of Tokyo. Then again, he could be Russian or Greek or something.
"Konichiwa," she said, first in Japanese. "Hi," she said, this time in English. She only saw the small boy, and had no idea there was a digimon there. as well. Alright, she didn't want to be imposing, but she didn't want him walking away with her egg either. Well, she had no idea if it was 'her' egg, it was just an egg. But then again, it was hers because it was in her room, right?
Whatever.
The main issue was how to deal with this kid.
"So. Um. Like my egg?" She asked in slow, somewhat awkward Japanese.
Perfect. She was a natural.

Edgar was just about to give the Egg a good ol poke, just like Artemis said to do, only he as interrupted by someone saying hi, first in Japanese and then in English. "erupph." Edgar said a weird noise, he hadn't heard her come in or even really felt her presence, too distracted by this egg for some reason he was told to touch.
"Er I mean, H-hi, I'm sorry Ma'am I didn't see you there," Edgar said in English by accident, his native language trying to cover for the small shock she had given him, smooth kid. He looked upward at her eyes, she was a lot taller than him. Probably a teenager, student? That he didn't really know. "Uhh yeah, you gotta admit it does look a little out of place." He responded in Japanese this time since she asked the question in that, he was quite well if he said so himself though he didn't sound as confident in his words as he did when he spoke in English.
"General, tell her you've seen an egg like this, tell her for me!" The digimon once again spoke in his head, that was really getting old fast and it's not like he could have countered him now, there was someone right there, so against his better interest. "I've actually seen an Egg like this before." He quickly added while he didn't like lying he was wondering where Artemis was going with that, He never saw an egg like that before, has Artemis?

A weird noise came out of the boy in response. Okay, that was fine, that was still a social interaction. Alexa was social interacting! And nothing was exploding.
He responded in English, than Japanese. Oooh, so he was a bit like her in that regard, at least.
"It's okay. And you're right. It's weird. That's why I'm here. To find out what the heck it is." She switched her speech completely to English, deciding it might just be easier for the two of them. He seemed to be a native speak, just like her. His Accent was American, or maybe Canadian? She wasn't quite sure. Interesting either way.
Then the boy said the magic words. He knew what the heck the thing was. Or at least he'd seen one before. Alexa opened her eyes wide and stepped closer to the boy.
"Really? What in the world is it?"

Right, that is exactly what he said, quick Artemis say something. "Tell her it's an Egg containing a digimon like me, and she might be a tamer, or tell her that it's yours and we can get another partner." It might seem odd to the girl in front of him but Edgar quickly gave a rather large sigh, though it wasn't one of relief. How the heck could he just out and tell her that, even he wouldn't believe it. But digimon come from eggs, good to know. Also what a tamer was he had no clue at all
Edgar had to think fast, he couldn't just tell her that whole thing in a library, but sadly his partner seemed to of backed him into a corner. So what was he to do? Well, the answers obvious. "I saw one at my school, and when it hatched it uhh, came out as. This." Edgar said returning to English before shifting his bag over a little opening it, revealing a smallish creature stuffed in the bag, the bag itself was empty aside from the little guy. that looked up at her for a few moments before waving. "Oh Hello there tall lady," Artemis said, speaking not with his mouth but using telepathy to talk in her mind, though the language spoken Japanese.
While this had less than Zero tact to it, Edgar figured Artemis might have been right about the digi egg

Alexa watched the boy with excitement. And then he... he sighed? Oh no. Alexa frowned. Was she supposed to know what it was? Was this boy - probably years younger than her - already exasperated by her lack of knowledge? Oh gosh, she'd really screwed it up this time.
No, be patient. He seemed to be thinking up what to say. All was not lost. So, he'd seen one before at school? And what was he going to show her now.
Okay. She definitely didn't expect that. A... creature, entirely black except for the tips of its' ears, with two blue eyes. She had no idea what the hell it was. But hey, it was cute. She was about to ask if this was some weird prank, when the creature spoke. Her head quickly shifted between the boy and the creature in the bag. Okay, this wasn't just some prank.
But then what the hell was it?
It would be polite not to wave back, so wave back she did. Her mouth hung open for a bit, as she was unsure what to say. She looked around. No one seemed to be looking at them. She leaned closer tot he bag and whispered tot he creature in Japanese.
"Hi there little guy. Are you an Alien?"
It seemed to be the only thing that made sense. Then again, she'd never heard of aliens hatching from eggs....

\Artemis watched as she leaned into the bag asking him if he was an Alien? With a confused stare, he quickly asked. "What no that'd be silly, I'm a digimon, My names Artimon, but you can call me Artemis." This time he spoke in both their heads, which lead Edgar to shake his head. "She probably doesn't know what a digimon is Artemis." Edgar also whispered trying to not attract attention. "I found him yesterday at school, when I got home a teenager explained to me that this is something called a digimon, coming from a place called the digital world, which is like a fantasy world, like the stuff in cartoons and books."
Edgar then, for fear it seemed a bit weird for a kid to just be showing some lady his backpack moved it back to his side, Artemis then zipped it up from the inside. "The way she described it was, like a puppy with superpowers, they'd listen to you, and be with you. But they're very strong and have some weird abilities, like Artemis and his telepathy." Edgar decided to stop there and let that little thing sink in, for both of them. For some reason hearing about this again just grounded Edgar more in the fact that this was reality, and it was happening.
Edgar then remembered what he got before, and quickly reached into his pocket pulling out his Xros Loader. "I got this when I met Artemis, he wanted me to have it, I don't know what it does but apparently it's related to this whole, insane thing." Edgar added showing her the device, black body, and red trim. A very similar color palette to Artemis.

Digital Signal in the library... and from the look of it, they're not hostile, but it's still probably a good idea to check. A black haired boy with stiff left arm entered the library and checked in with his student ID. He needed some books here anyway to finish the assignment given to him by Shibe-sensei, something that he gave to let him skip grade instead of repeating.... Digital World be damned. He followed his Digivice and saw... well, two person and two Digimons--one is still an egg, though. He took a thick history book titled The Myths around Japan. Not something he normally would take, but a leisure reading would be good...
He tapped the table gently, and gave the two a warm smile.
"Food and drinks not allowed in the library section, miss," he began, pointing at the "no food and drinks" sign, but to begin with, it's in Japanese... "I think it's best to eat and drink on other place..., probably out of the library's premise, eh?"
but then, the boy did not tell them to move or anything... instead, he looked at a private room nearby.
"How about you finish your drink and food first outside, then I'll explain about that egg more? Because," he whipped out his Digivice. "I happened to be pro in this, you see? You won't get explanation about that egg anywhere... also, you too, young man. I need to explain stuff to you too..."

Artemis. Like the greek god. He didn't look like a huntress, but hey, it was still a pretty cool name. She looked from the boy to the... what was it called? "Digimon".
"You got me there. I have no idea what a digimon is."
She listened intently to the boy. So he just got lumped with a digimon as well. Did these things just randomly appear in front of foreigners in Japan? Maybe it was a cit-wide prank. After all, if Japan could engineer those insane song-and-dance toilets, maybe they made weird eggs and monsters out of technology too.
A fantasy world? Like in her books? Okay, that sounded pretty damn good. Alexa wanted to learn more about this, even if it was an elaborate prank. And hey, Alexa always wanted a puppy, and one that talked and was house trained seemed pretty cool.
She looked over the strange device the kid showed her. Nope, she hadn't seen anything like that in her room. Maybe it was knocked over or under the bed or something. She'd have to give it a more thorough look later.
She was about to respond (how, she wasn't yet sure) when someone else came up to them. A young Japanese many, maybe around her age. She blushed when he pointed out her faux pas. Oops. She really shoulder have known better. She stuffed her snacks into her bag, hoping not to make too much of a mess out of it, but better her bag than the library.
"I-I'm so sorry, um, I'll eat later. Wait, you know about the egg?"
She stared at wonder at his digivice. It was different than the other boy's. Different than anything she'd ever seen, really.
"Y-yeah, please, tell us everything. Um, if you're okay with that, that is."
Alexa quickly picked up the towel and egg and gently cradled it. Who knew she'd get some many answers in the library?

Edgar felt like his explanation was good, though she didn't have a device like his, maybe it just came when the digimon hatched? After all, Artemis gave him his, while Artemis was still in his backpack. Then another newcomer came, Edgar quickly put the Xros Loader back into his pocket worried that might of been mistaken for a phone, a large rather stupid looking phone but he wasn't sure if he should have either in the library. Only this was quickly dismissed as he instead brought out another strange device, Edgar looked puzzled for a moment. "What is that?" He questioned to himself, it looked nothing like his digivice.
"General that's a digivice used by tamers, it means he's a tamer." Edgar looked at his backpack once Artemis was done talking in only his head, there was that word again if he was a tamer then what did that make Edgar? But aside from that, the older newcomer had said he would explain some stuff to him, while he was a bit wary this was a public place. "Come on General, follow him. I want to learn how tamers do stuff." Edgar still looking at his closed pack turned to face them again. "Alright then. Anything you can tell me would be appreciated." After all Artemis didn't know much aside from what he was and what the digivices were.

"I know, miss... and a lot more, obviously," the veteran told Alexa. "Don't worry, I'll answer all your question... provided that egg is really yours. Supposedly, let's wait until it hatch to see whether you'll get Digivice or not."
He leads the two to a private room after talking with the receptionist... but instead of bringing them to the personal study room, he instead bring them to... an empty classroom. It looks like it rarely used... it's also empty sans some chairs... and that's without the table.
"Well, then, let's begin the Digimon 101... Hikaru, you can come out now."
From his bag, a blob of purple furry thing came out, and he doesn't look all that amused.
"You need to bring less books," the blob protested.
"My bad, but seriously, we got a job to do.... before we start, let's go in for introduction. Name's Itou Yuuki, Itou the family name, Yuuki is the name. Here's my partner Hikaru."
"Yes yes," Hikaru answered, and soon he evolved to his Dorumon stage. He tied a kilt to his waist and sat on a chair. "...Hmmm, a newly picked partnered and a... general, huh. Quite the combo... Alriiiteeeeey~~ Let's begin Professor Hikaru's Digimon 101! Aaaare you reeadyyyy~?"
It's unknown when, but the Dorumon already donned a lab coat and a glasses. Yuuki was about to bonk him on top of his head, but the Dorumon dodged and took a chalk.
"First, I'm not sure if the general has gone to Digital World or not, but you definitely haven't, miss... and that's fine. You shouldn't hurry yourself to go there... let's just say we will learn some classes of humans that called to Digital World."
Hikaru wrote 'Partnered', 'Xros General' and 'Spirit User'
"If my guess were to be right, you'll be here a Partnered Human, Miss. Partnered humans are the humans that partnered with Digimon. One or two. It's like me and Yuuki, we're partnered. Xros generals meanwhile are human that partnered to... uh... seven? more? Digimons... we rarely met them for some reason. Individually, the Digimon that they own is weaker than other class DIgimons, but they can fuse with each other. Let's say, utility over power. I'm not sure that the egg would belong to the general, though, mainly because it have your scent most," he pointed at Alexa "...so it might be yours. Now, you'd ask... 'how can I hatch the egg, then?'... it's really simple. Just rub it, slowly, carefully, gently, lovingly, pour your motherly love into it--"
"I swore I just rub you as normally as possible--" Yuuki muttered
"Hush you!"

Alexa followed the young man cautiously. After all, so many weird and wonderful things were happening, she had a right to be a bit suspicious. Still, she went into the private room without any coaxing. She found a table to set the egg on gently. She then pulled up a chair nearby. She felt a lot better knowing the kid would be in the room too - that way she'd at least have a chum if things went awry.
And as for the question of the egg and it being hers - well if it wasn't hers, who's was it? Did people just leave digimon they didn't want in people's rooms? She felt a bit protective of the egg - sure she'd only been with it for a few hours, but she'd still taken care of it for those few hours. There was no question in her mind - whatever this egg had inside it, it was hers.
She did have to wonder how much this other guy knew though. He claimed to be an expert. She didn't know how much the kid knew, but the way the older boy treated him, it seemed he was fresh in this world too. Alright. Well, the library was the perfect place to learn about all this weird new stuff.
And weird new stuff it was too. Alexa slapped a hand over her mouth to stop herself from shouting as a little puff ball came out of the older boy's device. And then it grew! It turned into the blue furry dragon. It was darn cute. She wondered if all these digimon were so cute. She wondered if hers would be that cute. She absent-mindedly pet the egg in front of her, wondering what in the world would hatch from it.
"I'm Alexa Wolfgang. Nice to meet you all." Just because she had no idea what was happening didn't mean she had to abandon all manners.
She marveled at Hikaru. What strange things these digimon could do - summoning kilts and lab coats and all. God knew what else they had the power to do. Anyway, she was a ... 'partnered human' whatever that meant. One or two digimon sounded manageable. She felt a little bad for the kid though - seven or more of these things sounded exhausting at best.
Alright. So she had to rub the egg. Okay, why hadn't she thought of that? Because that's what you do with magic lamps, not eggs! Well, it was worth a shot. She took the egg in her hands. It was warm, and had a nice calming effect on her. She gently patted it. Some cracks started to appear. Oh my gosh - was this it?
But then it stopped hatching. She continued rubbing it. Nothing. It was like it was paused for some reason.
"Did I break it?"
Great. Her chance to be a 'partnered human' and she'd already screwed it up.

Edgar followed the pro towards an empty classroom, while he was glad for the familiar sight he was curious why it was empty, oh well. Deciding to sit down next to the girl he was with before, after all, it was better to be near someone you at least kinda knew right? Once the introductions started and another digimon had appeared next to Yuuki, it was a small blob thing. Edgar figured he should add his own name "I'm Shea Edgar, and this is Arte-" He stopped once his partner flew into the air after opening his bag, flying up right next to his head. "I'm Artimon, but Artemis is fine." He said speaking to them all at once in their heads, Maybe Edgar could finally get an answer if that's what should be happening.
Artemis shared the energy the newly evolved digimon had. "I'm readddddyyyyy." He telepathically shouted along pumping a small fist in the air. "Uhh, Yeah ready." Edgar added at least trying to share his partners energy, he was quite surprised when the little blob suddenly became a much larger creature, never seeing digivolution, much less one that added a kilt and a new outfit, before getting even more, information about what his life was going to be like. Seven of these digimon, he was hardly fine with getting one now he finds out there's going to be seven of them. "Yup that sounds about right, it's gonna be great isn't it General," Artemis asked while Edgar gave a sigh. "So that's why you kept calling me general huh?" He had hoped it was just a nickname, not that Edgar was going to actually become a general.
And now the way to hatch the egg was, petting it? "I guess you were right Artemis, Sorry." Edgar apologized, he had told him to poke the egg, why didn't he try telling her to?

"Digimon egg ain't that fragile, young miss. Don't worry and proceed with what you're doing so far," Hikaru instructed. "Pour more love to it I guess~"
"Well, if it's not responding, you should probably take it easy. Don't worry, it's not like it will die or anything..." Yuuki added. "But in case it won't hatch in few hours, I'll get you to someone who understand what should we do. They're around..." he whipped out his D-Terminal and typed some message... and just as quickly, the answer appeared. "...Ah, yeah, he's around."
With that being said, it's seem that it's time to return to the lesson.
"I forgot to tell you something, the third class is completely unpartnered, you can say. They turn into the Digimon themselves. Does that makes sense? Don't worry, even I understand that doesn't really makes sense... but it exist. That's why they're called Spirit User. Fragments of Digimon who have some unknown regret or unfinished goal sometimes form into totems. They're really ancient Digimons. I don't understand either how spirits are made, but let's just say, the spirit chooses their human... Sometimes the spirit talks in your head, causing what people often call Spirit-Induced Schizophrenia. Problem is, most spirits are unable to be seen by other party other than their picked human, hence why the schizophrenia... Some spirits totally doesn't talk though... I dunno why. But that means the human is safe from possession, hmn~?"
"T'was alarming," Yuuki muttered.
