But it's just an egg (Library, Open)

Alexa held her egg and sighed. This tamering thing wasn't easy. And digimon seemed so interesting too. Artemis was full of vim and vigor, not to mention Hikaru. She wondered what her digimon would be like - if the digimon was, indeed, hers. Yuuki and Edgar seemed so calm and level headed compared to their partners. Would her digimon also be so boisterous? Maybe pull her out of her shell a bit? Okay, she'd actually welcome that.
Keep loving it. That was good advice. So was taking it easy. But could she do both at once?
"I'll try," she told Hikaru and Yuuki, not at all feeling confident. "Thanks." She wondered who this mysterious contact was. A lot was mysterious right now. She was even more thankful they had Yuuki and his instruction.
The lesson continued. So there were humans who even turned into digimon? Alexa could hardly wrap her mind around it. And having schizophrenia along with it - that sounded scary. Of course, it didn't quite sound like an actual mental illness, but still, sharing your mind with a digimon sounded extreme at the very least.
Alexa hugged the egg closer to her. She did not notice as more and more cracks started to appear along the sides.

Giving it more love huh? While that seemed to be working it was very weird that love was what made it hatch, but the spirits thing had Edgar's attention more then that at the moment, he didn't know if he was supposed to raise his hand or something but he just waited till they were all done talking before asking. "I have a question, why do digimon appear in front of humans? The person who told me what digimon were said something it was like a golden ticket, just a rarity but is there a reason beyond that?" This just seemed like way too much coincidence that multiple people randomly got the same little monsters, some even becoming them.
Artemis, on the other hand, raised his hand high. "Also another question, how do the spirits evolve. I mean I can't digivolve either but you mentioned only a single digimon with unfinished goals, does that mean you have to find more fragments of the same? Or can they just go through evolution like normal?" That was also something Edgar didn't understand, he had a basic understanding of the evolution aspect, thanks to Yuuki's partner but spirits seemed like a weird topic.

"Yes yes, a very nice question! Two actually." Hikaru said, seem to be pleased with the eagerness of his "Students". "...actually, nobody knows either," he first answered to Edgar's question. ".....for example, who destined you to be with Artemis? Who destined you to be General? It's something of an enigma even to us. Does Digital World chooses, or is it a higher entity? A lot of Digimon believed in Yggdrasil, a host computer that acts like a god of Digital World. However, there are no mention of Yggdrasil for years... Another believed in Homeostasis, which is another different Digital God from Yggdrasil... but most believed that humans are picked by two of them... as for their existence, we have no idea. No slightest idea at all... it's all blurry things.
As far as I know, I'm made to be with Yuuki. I'm unlike some Digimon that have past lives, My life begins with Yuuki, and I've admittedly died twice.. but I always returns to him. Some Digimon could somehow become partnered when they got killed and their data changed due to it, and death could even change you, from partnered to solo Digimon. so who decide that we have no idea."
Now, Artemis' question.
"That one I have better answer for. See, apparently spirit users evolves as they gain stronger spirit. The spirits are... often fragments of same being, only with their power divided into smaller portions. But there are cases that the spirits are different beings that just happened to be in banner of one digivice... or it can be disciple of same master... like your child spirit is lowest disciple, the adult spirit is the middle, perfect spirit is the high disciple, and the master would be the highest level... But one thing for sure is, they happened to have same theme. At any rate, they need to find their spirits. It's a hunt, I guess? Anyway, next is evolution... let's move to the gymnasium, shall we?"
Hikaru jumped back to Yuuki's bag and pretend to act like some doll.
"Well, you heard him. The gym is nearby anyway."

Alexa nodded at Edgar's question. She was an ordinary girl. She didn't know too much about Edgar and Yuuki's circumstances, but she'd be they were quite ordinary too. Were digimon assigned randomly or did each person have something that 'called' their digimon to them? It was an interesting thing to ponder. Then again, in the grand scale of things, there were much more mundane matters she had to learn about digimon first. She pondered this for a bit, entirely missing Artemis's questions.
The answer was... slightly disappointing. It wasn't Yuuki's fault, it just lacked a certain ummph. Then again, Alexa supposed it was just another great mystery of life along side mysteries like.... the mystery of life. Though the idea of digital gods was an interesting one. So digimon had gods, or at leave believed int hem, just like humans. Maybe beyond their attacks and different physical forms, humans and digimon were more alike than Alexa had believed.
Alexa listened a bit to the spirit question, but mostly was absent-mindedly rubbing her egg. She stopped when suddenly, instead of egg, there was fur. She looked down.
A little bunny-ish thing was looking up at her. That was... unexpected.
Well, she supposed she should make introductions. She opened her mouth, but her new friend was the first to speak.
"Ah yes, past lives. I guess that's why I'm here," the little pink bunny thing squeaked. It was trying to sound dignified, but it hardly came out that way to to it's squeaky, high-pitched voice.
"I assume you're my partner. And that's the egg I came out of," the squishy thing continued.
Alexa nodded dumbly. Oh wait - was she his tamer? She picked up her hand to scratch her head, but inside of it was a strange device - not too different from Yuukis.
"Ah, perfect. I'm sure we'll get alone fine. I'm Data. Well, I'm made from Data, but my name is literally 'Data'. You'll get used to it."
"Hi there. I'm Alexa. It's really nice to finally meet you." She smiled at the little thing for a bit. This was a nice feeling, being a tamer. Kind of warm and all. Even if she'd only known Data for seconds, she felt a powerful bond with him.
Wait, enough of that, she was being rude.
"Oh, um, that's Edgar and Artemis, and that's Yuuki, and the one in the bag is Hikaru," Alexa said, carefully pointing out each of her new friends to her newest friend.
Data gave a polite nod to each as they were introduced.
"I'm Data. I'm a police officer. Well, was. I guess now I'm a digimon partner." The tokomon looked down for a moment, trying to think of what to say next.
"Want to go to the Gym and learn about digivolution, Data?" Alexa asked.
Data looked up to his tamer.
"Oh, that's fair. I mean, I know how to digivolve, I think. I've done it before. In fact." Tokomon leapt up into the desk and scrunched up his little face. To be honest, Alexa thought he look constipated.
After a moment of no change, Tokomon sighed.
"Alright. Maybe a refresher course would be a good idea."
Alexa nodded. Time to go t the gym. Though she'd have to do something about the egg parts around. She stood up to find the egg completely gone. Well, that's convenient.

Edgar gave a small sigh at that answer, he was hoping there would be an actual reason but it seemed neither Yuuki or hir partner knew about that, but the name of the so-called digital god did peak his interest, Yggdrasil a mythical tree. If it was named something like that then maybe humans had more of an influence over the digital world then he originally thought. "Yggdrasil and Homeostasis," Edgar repeated their names mulling them over in his head. But his mind was quickly cut short when Yuuki's partner mentioned the fact he had died before, twice in fact. Did death not matter to these things? But of course, they were data at least that's what digi felt like it meant.
"Oh that sounds interesting, Hope we can meet one General." Artemis seemed excited at the aspect of seeing a spirit tamer. "Ehh, yeah we'll look for one," Edgar promised his partner, couldn't be too hard right? Gym right, that was a bit concerning that for evolution they'd need to visit a gym, could these things get large? But he was going to find out it seemed. Edgar grabbed his bag off the table about to get up to follow when he saw Alexa rubbing not an egg, but some bunny looking thing. Except he only got to see it for a short second before Artemis flew in front of his face. "Ohh it's another digimon." Though Alexa already got introductions out of the way.
"Yeah I'm Artemis, and this is the general." After that was telepathically said Edgar grabbed Artemis out of the air before setting him in the empty bag. "A police officer?" That was the most confusing thing he's heard today, which is really saying something. "And you evolved also, wonder what evolution's like." Artemis questioned aloud inside the bag

"Probably that's because you're just born," Hikaru suggested. "Nice to meet you, Data. You're right on time. We're going to the gym, yes... I'll show you something... exciting."
And they walked to the gym... there, as expected, it was guarded by the PE teacher. Yuuki flashed something that looked like a small badge and requested cooperation from him. He seemed understand and a brief "don't make too much of a mess" warning was said, but to begin with, they're not going to make mess...
"Alright!" Hikaru's voice echoed inside the gym. Yuuki locked the door meanwhile, letting his Dorumon partner flies to the small podium. "Now we go to fighting class 101! First, you have to understand, that we Digimons are... how to say, with power unthinkable for human. There's a reason why Yuuki quickly goes to you guys the moment Artemis was out. That is... because Digimon's existence must be kept as absolute secret. I'm sure top brasses of countries, especially Japan's ministers know about Digital World... but to prevent Digimons from weaponized... or worse, invading real world, matters regarding Digimon are kept absolute secret. The organization that handled this was DATS. But they gone defunct... and now..."
Yuuki took out his badge for that cue. "Let's just say I'm a member of organization that replaces DATS. I'm an officer, Itou Yuuki of AEGIS. Nice to meet you guys again. It's actually not a huge enough matter that would make you punished or anything, so please rest easy... I'm doing this kind of out of my job, I guess."
"Well, anyway, back to the topic," Hikaru interjected "Why are Digimon dangerous...? Yuuki, is the dummy ready?"
The human nodded and pushed a dummy... armored dummy actually. Now, Hikaru focused his energy on his tail and...
"Frosty Trail!"
With a whip of his tail, he sent out blade of ice that freezes the target. It's ice, real ice.
"...And you see now, we're quite magical, aren't we? All Digimons have attacks, I assure you. And they only get stronger as we grow... well, I'll let it sink for now... then I'll show you some of my evolution, hm~?"

Tokomon sniffed at Artemis.
"I've never seen one of you around before. And he looks a bit young to be in the army. I'm guessing I'm missing something? Well, that doesn't matter. Yes I am a police officer. Was, maybe. I'm guessing I've been decommissioned for being well, dead. Anyway, evolution's a lot like... hmm. I guess being really strong and really big all of a sudden? Well, it depends on the evolution."
There was a a lot Alexa wanted to ask her digimon, but it probably wasn't quite the right time.
Tokomon turned to Hikaru. He looked him up and down.
"A dorumon - with a kilt. Haven't seen that before. But yes you're right. I did just hatch." He yawned. "Feeling low on energy too. Guess that's just how it is."
He leaped into Alexas arms. Alexa wasn't sure what to do. Pet him or just hold him? She decided to just gently hold the bunny thing as the walked to the gym.
Tokomon smiled when Yuuki flashed his badge. He remembered that feeling. He couldn't help but wonder if his badge had any sort of use now. Wait, he didn't have his badge. Oh dear. That would be a problem.
Data and Alexa listened carefully to Hikaru. It made sense digimon were kind of a secret. She didn't really know how powerful they got, but given their supernatural abilities, Alexa guessed digimon would probably be used as weapons of war if the government found out. She felt embarrassed that she'd carried tokomon and his egg all this way. Then again, it was Japan, and young woman carrying cute little stuffed creatures wasn't too much of a weird site, especially in Shibuya. Okay, that would make things a bit easier in keeping their cover.
"DATS is defunct? Oh wow. I've been out a long time," mused Data. He gave as much as a salute to Yuuki as he could with his little arms after hearing that Yuuki was an officer. Officers had to respect one another after all, and it seemed that this young lad had a good head on his shoulders.
Alexa had a lot to think about, and it was only made worse when Hikaru attacked the doll. Alexa's mouth hung open. Digimon could do stuff like that? The little guy created ice out of his tail and froze the doll. Alexa actually felt a little afraid of what she was seeing. She started to shiver. Data put a comforting paw on her hand.
"Hey now, dame. Don't be afraid. We're not bad guys. Well, most of us aren't anyway." Data decided now was not the time to tell his tamer about all the bad digimon he'd encountered in his time. That said, he had locked most of them up.
Alexa gulped and nodded, but didn't say anything yet. She wondered if evolution would be scary too.

Exciting, as if magical creatures from another world wasn't exciting enough, Edgar couldn't think of what might be better, except probably more having to do with this. Someone who looked like a teacher was standing in front of the gym, Yuuki flashed something at him. All Edgar caught of that was a mess, what were they going to do in there?
Artemis heard what Data had to say, though he was still in the bag he could reply. "Yup, Artimon, I'm pretty unique, never seen another like me, and the General's the General, no matter how young." The explanation of evolution did make Artemis think. "Bigger huh, I prefer being small, at least for now anyway. After all smaller target better chances.
DATS, well Edgar supposed he shouldn't question it, after all, he did just say they were defunct. "Because Artemis was out, sorry I didn't know." Edgar apologized scratching the back of his head, he just felt showing was a lot easier than saying, after all, people can just think he's lying.
Then the partner decided to show off his power, a blade of ice that froze the dummy nearby, Edgar was shocked, after all, he'd never seen anything like that before. "I'll say, Artemis can you do stuff like that." He asked as the digimon jumped back out of the bag. "Yup I can, well not exactly but." While floating a bit off the ground he raised a stubby hand making a small bow and arrow in the air nearby that looked ready to launch. "This is my power, I can create as many of these as I want." So it's true, they all have different attacks, but that stronger part did make him worry a tad bit. He gave a simply breath in and out calming down a bit.
Artemis had already let the power fade away before hearing Data. "Of course, so far every digimon and human I've met is nice." Edgar simply scratched the back of his head. "How many is that?"
"Static lady, er Amy, General, Yuuki and Hikaru, Alexa and Data." Giving a loud sigh Edgar simply shook his head. "That's half of them are people you JUST met."

Yuuki just saluted back at Data. It's a strange name, but it's better than calling him Tokomon he guess. He understood that Alexa is surprised, but he had no clue that apparently Edgar is surprised too when Hikaru attacked the dummy. Kid got good head above his shoulders, he have to give it that to him, but as expected, it's probably too fast for him to understand the prowess of a Digimon.
"...Have to break that bubble," Hikaru said. "...Sorry, but you gotta face it sooner or later. In Digital World, human's presence is not exactly super welcome. Sure, there are Digimons who goes like 'eh, whatever, another humans!', but there are also extremists... there are also welcoming ones. That's why we partners exists. We're here to protect you in case something is wrong."
"But don't let that discourages you," Yuuki said. "Yes, it's scary at the start, but it's important for you guys to set your goal. What sort of desire you want from Digital World---in exchange for it summoning you? Some are content with just adventure, another looking for their identity, and some happened to have bigger goal, but all in all, goals are important, but that's later... when you gone there... also, when you gone there, please don't think of Digital World as a quest board you need to tick like some game. It's a serious matter there."
Hikaru nodded and let that sink... but it's probably time to go to the next level.
"...Alright, let's learn about Digimon stages. The babies like Data over there are called Baby stage. It's the lowest stage of Digimon's life. Digimons all born from egg. So even if I looked like Mammal, I'm definitely born from egg. Anyway, the next stage is like me, I'm a child stage, you see~ It's the most standard of Digimon's default form. And now..."
Yuuki whipped out his Digivice and soon, ring of data surrounded Hikaru, and his form changed into much bigger dragon that is taller than Yuuki.
"And this is my second form, Dorugamon~ This is an adult form... and you should not, by any cost, approach an adult stage digimon thoughtlessly. I suppose I don't need to say what would happened, right?"

Data watched quietly as Artemis created a bow and arrow. Okay, the was kind of cool he had to admit. It also made him long for his higher forms, when he had proper weapons. He wondered how his tamer would react to seeing his rookie form. It got mixed results at best, usually.
"I'd love to hear more about this static lady sometime," Data said. The description was interesting. He wondered jut how much he missed while he was, well, dead.
Alexa looked down at her new partner again as Hikaru explained how digimon and humans mixed, or rather, didn't. Data was acting well enough now - but did he want to be a partner? Obviously he'd led a life before hand. Well, he could've been making that up, but it seemed unlikely. She felt a bit guilty - he'd probably be better off with anyone other than her. She had so much to learn.
Then she listen to Yuuki. Did she want something from the digital world? Well, she guessed she wanted something from it just like she wanted it from life - purpose. She felt a little better as she realized that whatever the dangers, having a digimon partner probably meant just that - a purpose.
The quest board part confused her. Okay, she got that it was a place with real, living creatures and their own lives. But she still had yet to grasp the scale of the danger - and probably, the danger that humans brought with their involvement. Welp, another question to ask Data later.
"Don't call me a baby," Data said mostly jokingly. Well, he loked like a baby, be he would never think of himself like that.
He was about to protest more when Alexa suddenly jerked up and let out a little yell as Hikaru evolved. Sure, she should've been prepared for it - but actually seeing a horse-sized dragon appear was still shocking the first time.
She took a few deep breaths to calm herself before shaking her head. No, she didn't want to think about what would happen if she met an adult digimon in a dark alley one night.
All this was a lot. It was a lot a lot. Alexa was the first to admit she'd never had a struggle in her entire life. Would she be able to deal with all these digimon and responsibilities?
"Hey, relax there dame. We're partners now. We're in it together. Even though the scary parts." Data tried his best to be reassuring, though honestly, it wasn't his best skill. Still, it seemed to work, and Alexa closed her eyes ans sighed.
"Sorry. I just... you're right, this is a lot." She opened her eyes and smiled shyly. "Sorry to interrupt. This is valuable information, thanks again for telling us all this. What's next?"

Edgar looked at the ground for a second while Hikaru explained the whole extremist's thing, that he did know about but he was still surprised something that dangerous could exist, he had since made peace with that fact. And that whole thing about goals for the digital world, somehow that identity thing spoke out to him more than anything else, heck the first thing Edgar thought was this made him somewhat special. Artemis was distracted though. "Oh not much to say about static lady, but when I talked to her I got this weird feedback, kinda like static, so static lady." Not much of an explanation.
"Right, serious matter. Can't even think about taking something like this lightly to be honest." Edgar admitted after all with government and secrets just dropped like that it was hard for an eleven-year-old to think this was just some game.
Edgar looked at the larger digimon, though he wasn't as scared as seeing the attack, he half expected something like this given the gym situation, but he didn't expect him to be that big. Though looking down at Artemis and back at Hikaru another thought just popped into his head. "But that's not like it for all evolutions, right? Some adults might look smaller and less, deadly I suppose the word would be." Edgar pointed out, after all he couldn't see Artemis evolving into something like that, it just wouldn't make sense that all digimon became scary after evolving. "Though if I met something like that I'd probably run the other way, no offense Hikaru."

"Correct you are. And no offense taken, don't worry. Anyway, let's go to the next stage of study. I will not deny that apparently, wild digimons can end in real world. We call that "realize". So a digimon that passed through portal from digital world to this world is 'realized'. Let's just say that these mons often came accidentally... But in their confusion, they could harm the other. That's often a mission for a chosen human to send these digimon back... But sometimes, terrorist digimon would appear and wreak havoc because they meant to. These guys must be destroyed." he spoke the last word with a great graveness.
"...normally, digimons that can appear in real world are child stage or adult stage... But one more stage... Should be something that a newbie should not fight at any cost..."
On that cue, once again Yuuki's digivice shone and Hikaru is bathed by light of a golden crest. Silver wings and red body, his neck elongated and he appear as an even bigger Digimon, about a third of a brontosaur, but still very tall and huge.
"Dorugreymon, perfect stage, my power at this form is probably enough to destroy tanks."

"A weird feedback? Well, there are weird people around. Keep your guard up, kid," Data said. Alexa found herself giving her tiny digimon an odd look. 'Dame'. 'Kid'. Those were interesting words for a cream puff like Data to be throwing around. She said nothing as Data turned towards Edgar.
"Yeah, some adult digimon and even above are kinda small. Doesn't mean they lack power though. The mamemon brothers were a crime syndicate back in the day, and except for the big one, none of 'em were over 3ft tall. But the punches they packed. Oof."
Alexa didn't understand half of what her partner just said, and it wasn't just the language barrier either. There was so much to learn about these guys. And now they had to destroy terrorist digimon? Alexa made a note to get some advil when she got home - this was giving her a slight headache.
The appearance of a giant red dragon didn't help matters, but at least this time Alexa was ready for it, and didn't even flinch as Hikaru evolved once more.
"Woah. You're so pretty in this form," Alexa said. It just kind of slipped out. Sure, she'd thought Dorumon was cute, but this was something else.
"Focus, girl," Data said, reprimanding her. Alexa shoot him a look, but the digimon just looked right on back at her.
"So, you can turn into something like that," Alexa asked Data. Data shook his head, which was approximately his entire body in this form.
"Not exactly. I turn into a more human-like digimon, actually. But I'm sure you'll see that in time."
Alexa could barely imagine a human-like digimon, but she was learning to imagine more and more things by the minute. And 'realizing' digimon. Something clicked in her mind.
"Are we supposed to fight other digimon? Is that what being a tamer, or general, or whatever it is is about?" She was a little slow, sometimes.

Artemis simply floated back a little crossing his stubby arms. "Eh , who knows why it was like that. She was nice anyway. The one who convinced the General to take the Xros Loader." Though to the question directed at him, Edgar simply shrugged at Data's response. "Never said they didn't, after all, big things can come in small packages." Edgar pointed out, after all he wouldn't want to assume anything about digimon, since they seemed to be pretty scary even at the so-called child stage. But when Hikaru then evolved into the much larger digimon Edgar was stunned silent.
"Wow you got big, I would not want to mess with you." Artemis pointed out. "So, cool. And dangerous." Edgar said both enamored with that larger digimon, yet slightly fearful of the damage this digimon could cause. "Man evolution seems so cool, but what can you do." Artemis added with a short laugh followed behind, kind odd to hear a laugh in your head but whatever.

"Mhmhm, yes, yes, bask in the magnificence of Hikaru-sama's floofeh presence! Yes, you may touch and pet. My best fur is around my chest I should say!" it would be probably hard to convince the humans that he is indeed a Digimon of amazing strength when he acted like this, but eh... At this point, Yuuki is used to it. He just sighed and looked at Data. "Out of curiosity, what were you? How far has you evolved in past life?"
"Ah right... A digimon evolution is not a predestined thing. For example, if you meet other Dorumon than me, don't be too surprised if he changed into a different digimon from what I showed ya. Also, some digimons shares evolution line, so other digimon species can evolve to this form too!" Hikaru added. "'nyway, ready for next stage?"
Yuuki nodded and once again, his Digivice let out a light.
"DORUGREYMON, KYUUKOKU SHINKA!!"
The figure of the dragon condensed into form of a heavily armored knight. Rendering rings descended upon it, revealing form of a holy knight digimon.
"Alphamon!"
The power the digimon emitted dwarved the magnificence of his draconic form. The knight Digimon's cape fluttered about, showing a presence befitting for a majestic ultimate stage...
