A click of the lock, and a door flew open, Kirsten pushing in, and rushing herself towards her room. Her nerves had sort of calmed down by this point, or at least to a level where she was capable of thinking rationally enough to have decided that her original plan was probably going to be the best thing she could think of to do. She pushed open the door to her room, quickly identifying the lump beneath her duvet. Flinging it too the floor, revealed the cat sized red mammal, currently asleep in a bundle. She smiled for a second before picking him up, and muttering a couple of words as Zarph began to regain his consciousness enough to understand things going on around him. ”Wake up, we’re leaving, now.”
”Huh?” A confused and tired response was offered, right as a pink backpack with a smiling cartoon cat face on the back was plonked down on the bed, unzipped, and then turned upside down to empty the current contents – a couple of pads of paper, a pen or two and a calculator. None of these things where going to be needed where she was going to be heading, so it was pointless to carry any of them.
”Someone found me, he seemed to know everything about where I’d been, about you, I ran off before he said anything else, but I’m scared” The first things she prioritised where clothes. Not the standard stuff she wore from day to day, but more durable things she could come across. This generally meant socks which where thicker than a piece of paper, several pairs of trousers, pants, t-shirts, bras and jumpers. Shoving one or two items of each into the backpack she began to look around, and think about other things which might be required. She didn’t really know how long she was planning on going away for but things like bandages seemed like they might be a good idea. A quick check of the bathroom found a roll of them, along with soap, and a toothbrush. Food was something she assumed she would be able to find on the way, or worst case scenario she just kept hopping on trains there and back, grabbing food and sneaking back without being detected.
This was all a fairly good idea in her head, and with a couple of final checks around her house, she felt like she was pretty much done. Aside from also taking a book of matches, she was ready to leave, there was just one more thing to do. Picking up one of the pads, she wrote out a note, ”I’m sorry, I can’t say where I’m going but I promise I’ll be back soon, Kirsten xxx”, before folding it, and hiding it under her pillow. She didn’t quite understand how time correlated between this world and the digital one, but she figured that if it was short enough, no-one would find the note and she would be able to return. Otherwise it would hopefully give her parents some kind of comfort, at assure them she was alive at least. With all that she was ready, and done. Picking up Zarph with both hands, and cuddling him like a toy, she stepped out of her house, and started to make her way towards the station.
She had a train to catch.
